Nachdem ich in den beiden ersten Tagen in Samarkand schon einen Großteil der Sehenswürdigkeiten gesehen hatte, konnte ich es heute gemütlich angehen lassen, zumal der Himmel grau war und es nieselte. Wäre heute top Wetter gewesen hätte ich nochmals ein, zwei Locations abgeklappert, um noch ein paar Fotos bei besserem Licht zu machen.

Gleich um die Ecke vom Hotel liegt die Bibi Chanum Moschee, welche ich mir als erstes anschaute. Die Moschee war Timur's exorbitantes Großprojekt. Nach seinem Indienfeld war Timur von der Moschee in Delhi so beeindruckend, dass er beschloss die größte und prächtigste Freitagsmoschee seines Reiches in der Hauptstadt Samarkand zu bauen. Bibi Chanum war der Name der Hauptfrau Timur's, welcher er die Moschee widmete. Bereits kurz nach Fertigstellung begann es offenbar Risse zu geben und 200 Jahre später war es quasi nur noch eine Ruine (weshalb am Registan die Tillya-Kari-Medrese samt Freitagsmoschee 1646-1660 als Ersatz errichtet wurde). Schlichtweg war die Moschee einfach zu ambitioniert für die Anfangszeit des 15.Jh. Erst Ende des 20.Jh. begann man mit einer Restaurierung, entgegen der Empfehlung der UNESCO. Zumal mit Beton und neuen Materialien anstellen von Traditionellem gearbeitet wurde. Inzwischen sind erneut Risse aufgetreten. Ein Teil des Moschee ist wohl noch unrestauriert im Inneren. Hier zeigen sich die wahren Unterschiede zwischen "alt" und neu.

Gegenüber der Moschee liegt das Bibi Chanum Mausoleum. Das Gebäude beeindruckt mit seinem relativ hohen Innenraum, welcher in den Seitennischen mit Murkanas ausgeschmückt ist. Feine blau-weiße Malereinen und vergoldete Kufi-Reliefplatten zieren die Wände. Im Zentrum liegt eine Etage tiefer der Hauptraum mit mehreren Gräbern. Es ist bis dato nicht gesichert, dass eine der hier liegenden Frauen wirklich Bibi Chanum ("die alte Herrscherin") ist.

Anschließend lief ich etwas abseits der Touristen-Achse durch ein Wohngebiet zum Al-Maturidi-Mausoleum. Dieses steht auf einem der ältesten Friedhöfe der Stadt, dem einst berühmten Chakardiza-Friedhof. Hier wurden seit dem 9.Jh. die Kämpfer bestattet, die bei der islamischen Eroberung Zentralasiens ums Leben kamen. "Allesamt quasi Märtyrer des Heiligen Krieges". 440.000 Gräber sollen hier gestanden haben. Al-Maturidi war ein Theologe des 9./10.Jh.; heute ist das Mausoleum eine Pilgerstätte. Der Friedhof wurde in der sowjetischen Zeit gezielt zerstört und überbaut.

Weiter ging es zum Mausoleum Ak-Sarai, welches am Sonntag bereits geschlossen war. Das Mausoleum liegt direkt hinter dem Gur Emir Mausoleum und wurde in den 1470er errichtet. Es war notwendig geworden, als der Platz der Timuriden-Herrscher im benachbarten Mausoleum nicht mehr ausreichte. Von Außen ist der Bau sehr schlicht und unauffällig, im Inneren schmückt eine tolle blau-goldene Dekoration in Kundal-Technik mit reliefierten Ornamente den Raum. Irgendwie erinnert es an traditionelle Brokatstickerei. Man kann auch baulich die Weiterentwicklung zu dem Ruchabad- und Gur-Emir-Mausoleum erkennen.

Um den Tag etwas vor meiner Abreise in Samarkand ausklingen zu lassen, setzte ich mich ins Café Toki, aß eine Schüssel Lagman (Nudelsuppe mit Rindfleisch) und im Anschluss gab es einen süßen Nachtisch samt Café. So verging die Zeit. Auf dem Weg zur Unterkunft machte ich noch einen kleinen Abstecher zum lokalen Markt/Basar, wo alles mögliche verkauft wird. Angefangen von Keramik-Souvenirs über Gewürze bis hin zu Obst und Gemüse.

Gegen 18:15Uhr setzte ich mich ins Taxi und fuhr zum Bahnhof, wo Gegner 19:15Uhr mein Zug abfuhr. Final bin ich heute Abend wieder da, wo meine Reise durch Usbekistan angefangen hatte, in Taschkent.
