Multiverse will be released on Blu-ray on January 11 via Well Go USA. Originally known as Entangled, the 2019 Canadian sci-fi thriller is currently available on VOD from Saban Films.

Gaurav Seth directs from a script by Doug Taylor (Splice, A Christmas Horror Story). Paloma Kwiatkowski, Munro Chambers, Robert Naylor, Sandra Mae Frank, and Marlee Matlin star.

There are some great books on this list. I highly recommend Louise Erdrich, who is a Native American author. Both books of hers I read were really enjoyable. I also enjoyed Wind in the Willows, The Road, and Dew Breaker.

Ones I didn't enjoy as much were Dubliners and A Certain Ambiguity, the latter mostly because I didn't become an English Major to read about math.

I’m a sucker for quantum physics-based scifi. Even when it gets silly. And in between the bad science and the painful script and delivery of this flick, there is a story here. Well, till the end (which is both inevitable, obvious, and completely in violation of the setup). Which is to say, there is some entertainment to be had, and some interesting ideas, but not a particularly good movie. Then again, it sprang from the pen of Doug Taylor (Splice, A Christmas Horror Story), an inconsistent creator to be sure.

The real issue is the that the logic of the story doesn’t really hold up. It isn’t doing anything new, but it tries to explain it, which is always a mistake if you can’t do it credibly. Explanations invite examination, and these didn’t stand up.

What is interesting is that the entire cast has some reasonable c.v. The most recognizable, though with a smaller role, is Marlee Matlin (CODA). But the main characters aren’t incapable, though the standout is really Sandra Mae Frank who, unsurprisingly, spends the most time with Matlin. The rest serve their purposes, but never really get to shine. They include Munro Chambers, Paloma Kwiatkowski, and Robert Naylor.

And yet, with all that talent, the performances are almost all clunky, which has to be laid at the feet of director Gaurav Seth. It feels rushed; like they didn’t have quite enough takes to choose from in the editing room. The result creates an uneven experience and a frustrating ride. Every time the story gets rolling, it hits a speedbump, or two, or three, throwing off the flow and throwing you out of the story. For a late-night or rainy Saturday afternoon viewing, it can work, but it’s up to you if you want to invest the time or not.
