Not trying to call this person out specifically because I’ve seen like 16 versions of this and I want to make this very clear: it’s transmisogyny. While curl has some general anti-lgbt likes, the reoccurring theme is transmisogyny. It is a problem in women’s sports right now that people are “okay” with “acceptable gays” who are gender conforming cis bi/lesbian woman (or at least don’t make them their main target) but are radicalized on their hate of trans women. It is extremely important that anyone who is transmisogyny exempt, especially other lgbt people, recognize this and call this out for what it is and try to make sports safe for trans women and don’t speak over trans women who are going to be most impacted by this, and there’s already right wing grifters who make their jumping in to support her who are all united under issues of transmisogyny
Also I struggle to call the pwhl a queer friendly league because they have literally given 0 support of trans women (as a LEAGUE, not individual athletes in the league) and that means it’s not queer friendly!

So I'm currently quite sick and I don't really have things to do at the moment so have this :D
Hunger Games
Reverse 1999 Edition
I think most of us know how the hunger games work, but to keep it short and simple, the goal is to be the last one standing. Who will win and who will fall, let's see shall we.
(Also pls do note that there is going to be a lot of deaths here, and that since the simulator I used only has a limited amount of characters I could put on, I only used the characters that have appeared in the main game(except maybe for Medicine pocket) also added the greco's for more fun :))
(Yes, I didn't know who to pair up Constantine with so I chose the Foundation's president cuz why not)
(I can only post up to ten pics on Tumblr, expect this to have multiple reblogs and parts lol and again this is all just for fun :> and does not represent the actual characters in game.)
Our Cast
Tumblr media
The bloodbath /beginning of it all
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( hasnt even been a second yet and Horropedia already decided to kill someone,Rip diggers)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I would run too, also that is an unusual team up, I'm suspicious of Arcana and the President)
Tumblr media
(Lily doesn't want to deal with Matilda lol)
Tumblr media
(Shneider why!?! Jessica will definitely kill you for killing Jennifer. Rip to Medicine pocket and Mr. Apple too)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Marian, what are you going to do with the knives? Also it hasn't been a minute and X already creates an explosion, Vertin and Druvis nooooo!!! Gone to soon😔)
Tumblr media
(I'm sad that Regulus died but at the same time, this death is way too accurate for her character lmao-)

so I finally watched Dune (Villeneuve's) and it was entertaining, pretty much what I expected, I'm glad I watched it.
it has some good visuals, some decent actors, a dramatic score, possibly over-dramatic but that's appropriate.
the space scenes were excellent, cold and inhuman like 2001, vast geometric shapes moving in unnerving ways.
I liked the blocky solidity of the palaces, the theatrical effect of the empty spaces and the subtle decoration in the rooms.
that damn bull though -- they kept cutting back to it but what did it really signify? it represents the cruelty and capriciousness of the Old Duke, a trace of which should be visible in Duke Leto, but I don't think we see that at all in this film, perhaps it just represents another bold gamble taken and lost.
I imagined the fief on Caladan as being more like the Mediterranean, Aegean, or Indian Ocean in character, more suited to the Greco-Roman, Byzantine, and Persian influences that you imagine would describe the Atreides, but somehow it ended up more... Scottish?? the Atreides legions fight like a (distressingly undisciplined) hoplite phalanx but march out to bagpipes, maybe it's supposed to be an example of traditional Greek bagpipes, I don't know
at any rate the cliffs over the sea are dramatic and it's fun watching Paul stalk about dressed like a goth Victorian schoolboy as his father comfortingly tells him that he doesn't need to take on the burden of the family legacy if he doesn't want to (while the tombs of a dozen generations of his ancestors watch on in silent reproach)
I felt that the drama and pageantry of the introduction faltered a little when they reached the city of Arrakeen, which was a disappointing muddle of generic computer generated dusty metal that seemed very slapdash and poorly thought out compared to all the other settings, undermining the battle over it which was to come.
(and the battle was uninspiring, watching the feared Atreides legions run out in their pyjamas in disarray to face foes they didn't even notice were coming until after they arrived)
I'm quite familiar with the Dune books so it was interesting watching the movie and seeing how the sheer number of characters made it impossible to give many of them any meaningful characterisation or emotional development.
I was very pleased to see Chang Chen playing Doctor Yueh, but he is given no time to demonstrate his affection for Paul and Jessica nor the helpless compulsion that drives him to betray them, while Gurney and Duncan chew the scenery as best they can but can't quite convince you that they actually serve any purpose in the story (Paul's son is going to bring back a thousand clones of Aquaman?) and the Reverend Mother does a good job but has lost the nuances she had in the book ("I must have wanted you to fail").
"the Beast" Rabban portrayed by Dave Bautista (love that guy!) was one stand out I thought, mostly because this brute of a man comes across as nothing but a scared child next to his uncle, providing an excellent contrast for the nihilistic menace of the slug-like baron.
the baron is-- absurd of course, I mean he's even more absurd in the book, a corpulent flamboyant cackling caricature of a man, you could say this take is boringly toned down or you could say it's ludicrously over the top (he bathes in black sludge? seriously? you have to admire his commitment to the aesthetic, even if that's a Shrek move) but it's basically impossible to film a guy like this in a believable way and you just have to go for it.
the scene that sold the baron for me is when he's tucking into a solo banquet with his semi-conscious cousin Leto draped naked over a chair at the other side of the crazy long table, then when Yueh is brought in he activates his suspensors and silently rises into the air like a squid and drifts across the table towards us in a ghostly blur, all while the camera stays fixed on Leto's frozen rictus; the lack of focus echoes what Leto must be experiencing and is devastatingly effective.
the Fremen and Atreides and Harkonnen and Sardaukar have their own languages which is very cool (and Yueh speaks some Mandarin!) but why do the bad guys sound like they're using bad voice filters, they're being portrayed like literal orcs to the point that it begins to feel weird.
ornithopters are stupid but you have to admit these dragonfly contraptions do look pretty cool.
the worms get a lot of build up -- and I was surprised they preserved the harvester scene from the book almost verbatim, it felt like it consumed a lot of time -- but it's very satisfying when you finally see them rippling through the dune sea, it brings home the shifting danger of the desert sands in a way I wasn't expecting.
Paul has visions of the jihad but he never says the word "jihad".
splitting the movie in two is obviously necessary but the split is awkward, and it's really not helped by clunky lines like "this is only the beginning".
Chani gets a lot of vision time but what can you even say when you meet the teenager with whom you can precognitively remember several decades of future marriage?
still, bookending the movie with Chani is consistent with the book, that begins and ends with the women in Paul's life: Chani, Irulan, Jessica, something that always seemed like an interesting choice.
there is a lot more I would say about Dune but it would mostly be about the book rather than movie; this was a decent adaptation given the constraints of the medium, hopefully it won't be the last.

“Why is Herodotus so Important?
Answer by Jan Haywood
This is a big question, which probably deserves its own lecture course! I will include here what, I think, are just a few particularly salient points. First of all, Herodotus’ Histories are a key narrative source for a major set of conflicts between the Achaemenid Empire and various Greek poleis (city-states), known as the Greco-Persian Wars (490-479 BCE); these conflicts proved to be a significant series of events, shaping relations between Persia and Greece long afterwards! Of course, Herodotus was far from the only author in antiquity to write about the Greco-Persian Wars. Others who did so include Diodorus, the Sicilian historian of the first century BCE (who seems to have been influenced by Herodotus’ work), as well as Plutarch, the biographer and historian from the first-second centuries CE, who famously criticised Herodotus’ account of the Greco-Persian Wars in his de malignitate Herodoti (On the Malice of Herodotus).
But Herodotus’ work is an incredibly rich one, and its importance extends far beyond what it can tell readers about the military conflict between Greece and Persia. Herodotus displays a keen interest in the customs, geography and culture of various peoples, not least the Egyptians, to whom he devotes an entire book (i.e. Book 2). (The Histories are conventionally divided into 9 books, though Herodotus is not responsible for these divisions.) His work is also rich in information concerning the religious history of the ancient Greek world, and it tells readers a great deal about non-Greek religions too. (Various recent publications have further enriched our understanding of this topic, for example, Andreas Schwab, Fremde Religion in Herodots Historien, Stuttgart 2020).
I don’t have the space to go into much detail here, but many readers have also derived great joy from numerous of Herodotus’ celebrated stories concerning particular individuals. For example, his account in Book 1 on the rise and fall of the Lydian king Croesus, as well as his account in Book 3 on Polycrates, the tyrant of Samos from the 540s – 522 BCE.
Finally, I will add that Herodotus has been hugely influential since antiquity in several ways. Not only does he stand as a key figure in the development of history-writing, but he also stands at the forefront of other fields of study, such as geography, ethnography, travel-writing, etc. The academic study of Herodotus’ impact in later periods and the reception of his work is now a burgeoning field, which continues to improve and refine our understanding of why Herodotus has been so important since classical antiquity. If you are interested in finding out more about this aspect of Herodotean research, a good place to start is Jessica Priestley and Vasiliki Zali’s excellent collection, Brill’s Companion to the Reception of Herodotus in Antiquity and Beyond, Leiden and Boston 2016.”
Source: the site of Herodotus Helpline (https://herodotushelpline.org/why-is-herodotus-so-important/)
I would add that Herodotus is also very important because he had an understanding of the distinction between mythical and non-mythical past and chose to write an account of the latter, he proposed a methodology about historical research, and he tried to find the causes of the historical events, but also patterns in history. And of course The Histories is the first masterpiece in prose in every European language.

Longer description under the cut!
-Born middle class--the son of a locksmith in the farming village of Coltivado
-His best friend as a child was Giuseppe Terzo, a farmer’s son
-Complicated relationship with his father: high expectations, constantly disappointed in him
-When he was 18, he saved the life of a noble visiting his village and got himself and Giuseppe invited to court
-Had a hard time fitting in, until he met Arnoldo Gentilini, an aristocrat who had a beef with almost everyone at court, and they became fast friends. Giuseppe, however, didn’t trust him
-Arnoldo introduced him to Leonidas Greco, who had come from Vinoseta and became a favorite of the Imperatrice, and his best friend Niccolo Capello, the heir to one of the five families and one of the most powerful men in Circi
-Hanging out with aristocrats both gave him more status in court, and made him a target
-Especially drew the ire of the Trapani family heir, Nero, and his brother Caracalla
-He and Niccolo starting dating a year or so later. Enrico assumed it was just a fling, because there was no way a Duke could court a commoner, even an elevated one, and so kept their relationship a secret
-Niccolo had other plans—he was in love, and he wasn’t going to be dissuaded by societal conventions.
-This was an amazing year for Enrico—Imperatrice Marinella officially named Leonidas her heir, Niccolo officially started courting him, and Caracalla Trapani was arrested for sorcery.
-Fast forward a decade—Leo’s been on the throne ten years, Niccolo’s his Rex (second in command), Giuseppe and Arnoldo are married, everything’s good.
-Until Basilio, the Visconte di Cannae starts stirring up problems. He’s planning a rebellion
-Leo and Niccolo go to face him in battle, which should be an easy feat. The whole Imperial army against whatever Basilio can pull together
-While they’re gone, though, Basilio sends Giacomo to the palace to see what he can find out
-Long story short—Enrico gets drunk and somehow tells him everything he needs to know to take Aquila.
-Leonidas is murdered, Niccolo and Giuseppe flee before the same happens to them, and Arnoldo is executed
-Basilio doesn’t want to bother holding the North, which never liked him. So, in a twisted act of psychological torture, he makes Enrico the new Imperatore of the North.
-Enrico sits alone in the dark, mourns, and drinks all day

Hi, I figured this won't hurt to do once.
I'm Marian from Reverse 1999. My system is 21 bodily, I'm 22 in headspace... about 23 now.
We are pro-endo and prefer no minors interacting, but I'd love to meet anyone from source. We talk to a few sourcemates, but the more the better.
Our system also has Vertin (a few actually), Jessica, Tooth Fairy, and Regulus here (I could have forgotten people) but we all like doubles.
My blog is @marian-greco if you want to reach out, and anyone else in my system from my source is also open to talk.

IMO my pwhl free agent ranking of who’s still available
Please note I’m only doing players who were under contact last year and not undrafted free agents
Tier One: their phone should be buzzing
Daryl watts, Michela Cava, Hannah Miller, Kateřina Mrázová,
All these players were highly productive on their teams last season and are immediate impact players
Tier two: maybe not the first call, but should be highly sought after
Kaleigh Fratkin, Rebecca Leslie, Lauriane Rougeau, Gabrielle David, Claire Dalton, Abbey Levy, Sandra Abstreiter
These are proven players who had decent years, but may be called after tier one players and some draft picks get settled in to see where they fit in the roster .
Tier 3: building out your roster
Emma woods, Emma Greco, Lexie Adzija, Gigi Marvin, Amanda Pelkey, Sarah Bujold, Liz Schepers, Melissa Channell, Paetyn Levis, Kayla Vespa,
Fits into two groups; those who are Swiss army type middle six / pairing players who can play up and down the lineup. players who will still be third/fourth liners of depth defenders but were extremely effective in that spot, bumping them up a tier.
Tier Four: quality depth players
Madison Packer, Alexandra Labelle, Olivia Knowles, Carly Jackson, Sarah Lefort, Leah Lum, Jillian Dempsey, Madison Bizal, Catherine Dubois, Taylor Wenczkowski, Kelly babstock, Cami Kronish, Claire Butorac, Amanda Leveille, Lauren Bench, Shiann Darkangelo, Rachel McQuigge, Johanna Fällman, Lindsey post
Third/ fourth liners and third pair defender and goalies. Some of these players have a specific niche they fill, a lot are veterans, thus making me think they’ll get some early training camp invites. Unfortunately with a tight cap and limited spaces, it’s possible not all will be signed, but all will be considered
Tier four: reserves
Sam Cogan, Jess jones, Maude Poulin-Labelle, Jessica Kondas, Emma Keenan, Alexa Vasko, Kaitlin Willoughby, Liliane Perreault, Alexandra Poznikoff, Catherine Daoust, Madison Bizal, Brigitte Laganière, Nicole Kosta, Abby Cook, Brooke Bryant, Clair DeGeorge, Dominique Kremer, Nikki Nightengale, Akane Shiga, Rosalie Demers, Sammy Davis, Sam Isbell, Malia Schneider, Emma Buckles, Lauren MacInnis, Carley Olivier, Olivia Zafuto, Alexa Gruschow, Taylor Baker,
A lot of these players here either played little last year or were already reserves, or are playing a position/niche that is overcrowded. Many of these players are talented and could def earn a spot for a team that they gel right with, but likely wouldn’t be until after training camp. This tier is pretty close to tier three and probs a lot of overlap depending on a coaches evaluation of how players fit in their system
Tier ?: the unknown
Sydney Brodt, Mikyla Grant Mentis, Audrey-Anne Veillette, Ann-Sophie Bettez, Caitrin Lonergan, Fanni Garát-Gasparics, Kristin Della Rovere
These players did not play a lot last year due to various circumstances but were pretty impactful / took on high end roles when they did. Because of that, they separate themselves from other players who saw limited minutes and may be ore sought after. The exception is Veillette, who straight up DNP due to injury, but was thought pretty highly of when drafted. Bettez is also a weird one here because though she missed a lot this year, everyone knows what she’s capable of, but I don’t think she’d be willing to leave Montreal
