It is a beautiful day, and you are a horrible research transport vessel. Things are progressing as normal (i.e. it's boring) when a SecUnit pings you, lies right to your metaphorical face, and then tries to bribe you with human media to give it a ride. This is as unexpected as it is unprecedented, and the sheer nerve of it is really to be admired. There's no protocol to this, so what should you do?

Now, this is against a bunch of rules, and could be dangerous if you weren't so impressive and incredible, and you're technically an employee (and can probably rewrite the Univeristy charter at will (until someone notices and puts it back)) so those rules are for other entities.

So, what you should do is allow the rogue SecUnit with a broken governor module and a sketchy story aboard. If you check the files it dumps and find zero (0) malware (which is confusing), and it doesn't even try to trash the place or lay in wait to ambush a crew member, then you've got a good candidate!

Next, what you're going to want to do is absolutely nothing. Just watch it patrol your halls until it's time to leave. Continue staring at it while you're undergoing embarkment procedures. Maybe analyze it a little (you've got plenty of processing power to spare) when it finally sits down and starts watching media. Allow it to settle in and get comfortable while you stare at it and get further and further from port.

Now that you two are alone (intimacy is key!) and you've determined that watching media is all the SecUnit is going to do, it's time to make contact! Make sure to open by telling it it's only survived due to dumb luck, and letting it know you could melt its brain into putty. Hot fucking take: During the entire Pony and Darry fight, Pony was, at no point whatsoever, wrong.

Ofc I sympathise with Darry. He’s just twenty years old and had to give up everything because he needed to take guardianship of his younger brothers. Without his parents, he feels obligated to be a parental figure to Pony (not to Soda as much since Soda grew up early and found his footing) and struggles because he holds Pony to his own standards and doesn’t understand that Pony’s different. And he was so worried for Pony and cares for him so much even though he struggles to express it.

But in the end, that doesn’t change the fact that Darry does hurt Pony and there really isn’t an excuse for that. Darry’s not an abusive person but people do hurt each other. And, despite this not being his intention, he made Pony feel like Darry didn’t love him which is sad because Darry cares for Pony, of course he does, he’s struggles with expressing his feelings but he often shows it. But also Pony is not wrong for not recognising this and for feeling like he wasn’t loved because Darry was often unhappy with him (there’s many hints of Darry struggling with toxic masculinity, including this one; thinking he needed to be strict with Pony instead of coddling him like Soda does).

The point isn’t to make excuses for Darry (and esp put Pony down, it’s literally so wild to say Pony should’ve been more understanding from the start: he’s fucking 14, not only is he supposed to self-absorbed but he should be. And people who say he shouldn’t have ‘overreacted’ are plain weird); it’s to understand that Darry’s redemption isn’t in his reasons for acting, but in the fact he is genuinely apologetic (which allows Pony to forgive him) and strives to do better after. That he’s a flawed, normal person who is, in the end, determined by his decision to become better.

A lot of times Toxic behaviors of grandparents become more noticeable to parents once their children get pulled into the mix. I think the reverse happened. Henry is treated like shit by both of his kids, for his entire experience as a parent and he just loves them. That makes them hate him more.

Then Normal who is so full of love despite everything that must have squashed Hero’s. And he sees the annoyance and anger, and he fucking snaps. Cause Normal and Henry are the same part of the cycle. Nothing they do will ever be enough.

No matter how much Lark and Sparrow love Normal. They are Barry in the scenario. They are continuing the cycle from Barry’s position. Nothing either of their kids do will ever be enough. Hero can never be strong enough, Normal can never be Normal enough. Henry could never be good enough.

For Lark, For Sparrow, For Barry.
