Is GCM really that special a Glinda? I've never seen a boot of her and people keep singling her out as like the Gelphiest Glinda, which is impressive if true but I find it really hard to believe anything will top my personal trifecta of KRC/Laurel, SJB/Annaleigh and Alison/Gina Beck and trading's nerve-wracking so I don't track something down unless it's super special
the short version: yes, I think GCM really is that special -- and even if (for you) Mary Kate/Ginna Claire don't end up ascending to the pantheon of Circle Of Trust Guaranteed Quality Gelphie™️like the pairs you named, double name witches is still an essential flavor that you MUST try once
(though it does interest me that you single out Laurel as Katie's Best Elphie because like YES BUT ALSO THERE ARE MANY GREAT OPTIONS?? HAVE YOU SEEN WHAT SHE WAS LIKE ON TOUR?? DO I NEED TO CONTINUE TO WAX RHAPSODIC ABOUT CARMEN CUSACK? BECAUSE I BARELY NEED A REASON--)
ahem.
the longer version:
I don't think GCM is quite as strong of an actress as any of the other Glindas you listed above (who set a VERY high bar). however, what she lacks in that department she makes up for in pure, unmitigated, zealous commitment to her thesis statement. if KRC is Dykadelic Fugue State and Annaleigh is the CEO of Yearning Incorporated and Gina is like sort of if a Normal Fucking Person were those two things combined, GC's Glinda is THE YURI QUEEN. her glinda is the elphaba fanclub president and founder, because Being In Love With Elphaba is what her glinda exists to do. this can in fact end up being to her detriment, because a) at a certain point being that All In can sort of break the show and she's definitely tested those boundaries a few times lmao, and also b) if her Elphie isn't on board it's like "GIRL SHE'S NOT THAT INTO YOU GET A GRIP??"
(this is why her boot with Laurel is a lowkey nightmare, they each clearly went in with A Plan but their plans in no way ALIGNED and then it was like they were speaking different languages all night.)
it's not clear to me whether the special sauce for you is about The Glinda or if it's about the unique idiosyncratic nuances of the gelphies, because I think the three pairs you name all come at it in wildly different ways. krc and laurel are, i think, a high-friction gelphie; annaleigh and sjb on the other hand are clingy and tender. i note this because both Katie and Annaleigh made BIG changes to their take on Glinda over time, so i'm not sure if the fact that you pinpoint them to those versions of themselves is just based on you not having the breadth of the boots because you know what you like and already have it, or because you were less keen on other iterations. i only bring it up because i think another hallmark of GC's Glinda is how very consistent she is. she's not mercurial and capricious like the other two; HOW she does it may change, but WHAT SHE'S UP TO never does. MK is undoubtedly her favorite and most matching-puzzle-pieces partner in crime for that, but she is down to clown anytime and anywhere. in almost every boot with ginna claire i've seen, my punctum has been her finding a Brand New Way To Homo. [eta: if i had a nickel for every time i said "JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, GC" out loud while watching a boot because she did something megaqueer i'd be able to get my wife and i a VERY nice dinner somewhere fancy]
so yeah, i think i do agree with the consensus -- she is the Gelphiest Glinda. i'm not sure if i'd say that makes her the Gayest Glinda or the Best Glinda, but she absolutely put in the hours and the elbow grease to be the Gelphiest

unfortunately as far as actual GCMs go, ExoPlaSim is the extremely simple for amateurs version. and with the scripts Worldbuilding Pasta posted, it's pretty easy to generate like a basic Köppen map for a conworld. for me the hard part was 1) getting it not to crash, and 2) making sure all the dependencies were correct.

Floyd Craver
For the General Court Martial of the May 27th incident he is charged with two counts of murder and an attempted murder. For escaping the stockade he is charged with desertion and escape from confinement. His clemency was granted November 13, 1959.
Previous court martials were:
Summary Court martials: Total of seven
-April 27, 1945 - AWOL for 2 days
-January 11, 1945- AWOL for 1 day
-January 6, 1944- Drunk in public (probably the car theft)
-June 30, 1943- AWOL
-January 2, 1943- drunk in public
-February 9, 1943- AWOL
-May 15, 1943- Disobedience.
Company cards here and here and car theft.
Per his shrink eval, one was for drunk and car theft, two AWOLs for being drunk, and an AWOL for when his son was born.
From the Psychologist interviews/review boards/evaluations: Dr. Soltz interviewed him first (June 13) and closest to the May 27, 1945 incidents. Other board interviews were before trial Sept 1945 and follow up on review in March 1946.
Craver's father, Floyd Craver Sr., was blown up by dynamite while on a prison chain gang in June 1922, his death certificate states it was his own negligence. (source: death cert) In speaking with the psychologists in the ETO he states numerous times his Dad (unknown) died when he was 3. Floyd was born August 1921.
He also states his mother remarried when she was 47, when it appears she got remarried in her late twenties. Tells Dr. Soltz he was reared by his step Dad and Mom had multiple nervous breakdowns. (GCM) He had three half brothers. One died in infancy. (find a grave) Mother did write the review board, contacted a senator, and get a lawyer to try and get her boy out of jail. (GCM)
He left school in fifth grade to work.(1946 shrink council) Started school late as he had burns on his body at age six. Made it to fourth grade at age 14 with a lot of truancy. (Soltz- 1945) He worked as a bell hop, in a textile mill, truck driver (all interviews.) and pimp (1946 interview). Been using alcohol and drugs since he was 16 (1946) or at 18 (1945). Gambles and considers it supplemental income. Married at 21, wife was 17 and he was courting her for a year and had sexual relations. Had a son after marriage. Has had extramarital relations mostly with prostitutes. Was in the National Guard. Volunteered for parachute infantry and completed an 8 week course and landed in England in Feb 1945. Landed in Germany April 3, 1945, Austria May 10, 1945. Had one month of combat.
Psychologist range from thinking he was insane to just plain stupid. Soltz is the only doctor who is fixated on Craver's enjoying fellatio by men and women and can't wait to bring that up in trial. He feels that this is a perversion and the homosexual desires stem from his marijuana use. Implies at one point without any evidence or objection from anyone, that Craver found some Meth at Berchtesgaden and that's why his eyes were crazy red during the murder of German Captain. NO evidence, just he read an article once. He also really thinks him nuts for spending 500 Francs for 15 joints. Craver does tell Soltz his squad found some pot at Berchtesgaden. Soltz records he get a high of exhilaration from it but no desire for sexual stimulation other than fellatio. (He really is obsessed with this.) Tells Soltz he had some opium in Baltimore in Dec 44, at Mourmelon in March '45 , and hit up morphine in April '45. Smokes regular tobacco 1/2 pack a day but does not smoke aspirin.
And he also hallucinates his Mom, wife, child saying "Be good. Come home". "Has been in communion with God, who has spoken to him." And "feels that he is imbued with the powers to read other people's minds". Dr. Soltz is not concerned about these, thinks that's just normal to have your family saying come home and a product of an over religious Mom to talk to God, and never asks about the mind reading because it's clearly not as much of a concern as blowjobs.
Dr. Soltz has the most experience of anyone in Neuropsychology, the other doctors admitting they do not specialize in it. Soltz exudes arrogance and prejudice in his testimony and I admit I don't like him. A little poking around into him reveals post war he is living on Park Ave in NYC and in private practice. He also gets his ass sued by the wife of a client, because he had her committed even though he never had her as a patient.

put it in the tap. time to turn fat people into thermobaric bombs.
- america has an obesity epidemic - there are diet pills that work. but they work by turning fat into body heat, and sometimes they produce too much body heat and people burn to death. - no one's settled antarctica yet because it's too cold

Hi!
Idk if it applies, but in my fanfic Wally (speedster) has sort of reversed-diabetes?
I based it on T1D, including GCM and side effects. But instead of not making insulin, his body makes too much insulin
(so he's too likely to get hypoglycemia, his pump shoves glucose, etc.)
Idk if it's apply, bc it's sort of "magical nature"?
(it implies that it's bc he became a speedster).
Anyway if you're interested/if it's relevant lmk :)

hi!
what you're talking about here is actually a real thing! It's called chronic or reactive hypoglycemia, and it is the exact opposite of diabetes mellitus. unfortunately, glucose pumps don't exist in real life outside of IVs for a few reasons, but i love the idea that he may have been able to make one himself with comic book sci-fi. most people with hypoglycemia just carry snacks around, although that's hard to do with speedster level metabolisms requiring so much more nutritionally.
i've seen a few people give speedsters reactive hypoglycemia (myself included, in my Snyder JL fic This Needle's Wearing Thin), but I've only seen it done with Barry, never Wally! (I'm assuming you're talking about Wally West, but if i'm wrong then nvm.)
Thanks for sharing!

Today I want to vent about lab safety.
I've been working in labs for 8 years so far, from sample reception to asbestos testing and eventually manager roles and I thought I'd list a few of the most notable health and safety incidents that have occurred both while I've been working and told to me by other people I've worked with.
Crocs are not appropriate for use in a laboratory setting, especially in areas that use aqua regia.
You should not take your shoes off in the lab to rest your feet on the workbench next to the GCMS.
Don't dry your socks in the bacterial incubator.
Please do not climb a pile of stacked cool boxes because you saw a rat.
H2SO4 (Sulfuric acid) should be handled with care, do not wipe your face with your gloves on after handling.
Please do not mix H2SO4 with water, cap the quickly heating mixture, then shake it next to your face.
Don't mix a cyanide compound with acid, it forms hydrogen cyanide which is volatile.
Do not attempt to pretend to cut yourself with a knife, you will cut yourself with a knife.
Don't put your pinkie finger in the cap crimper, it will crimp your finger.
Do not remove a piece of concrete from a fume cabinet to smash it on the floor with a hammer if that concrete is in the lab for asbestos testing.
No matter how cool your secret santa present is, don't fire a crossbow in the lab.
Make sure that TOC crucibles (at 550c) are held in the pincers firmly, or they will set fire to your lab coat when they bounce into your pocket.
Don't order pet cockroaches to the lab or sample reception will freak out.
Do not sit on the delivery trollies and race around the lab on them.
When servicing a fume cupboard, don't remove your safety glasses to get a better look when there are winchesters of acid kept inside.
Do not wear your lab coat in the canteen especially when you work with raw sewage.
I'm sure I'll think of more later, but this is a few of them.

Thoughts at 830pm..
So I've gone a few days with my new blood sugar sensor (libre 3 plus gcm) and so far so good. This is actually #2 as the first one didn't last a full day.
We didn't shave my arm well enough and didn't put the patch/cover thing on it right so POP went the weasel.
This time I did my stomach, shaved a round patch (look! alien crop circles!) Stuck the sensor on, and then the cover patch. I know it probably doesn't need the patch, but I figured I'd try it out.
My numbers are all over the freaking place. It's like watching a stock market ticker. It has 0 to do with food though. I'll shoot up to 350 and then drop to 100s randomly as I lay down in bed reading. Sometimes during the day it'll swing hard after taking meds, and stay completely flat for hours after eating.
This one doesn't have a calibration, but I did finger sticks at some of the more wild ones, and sure enough, it IS accurate! Even with the stomach placement it's rarely more than 20 off.
I was completely unaware because I was told to stick twice a day... so I was... and those were mostly normal/slightly elevated. It never caught the wild swings.
Doc thinks it might be dehydration/meds related due to the metformin and lasix. Could be... we'll see...
I don't know if I'm going to do the first insulin poke tonight or tomorrow... probably tomorrow... since I want to go to LA Fleet week in the morning and trying a new drug sounds like a bad idea.
So there ya go! I'm now part of the insulin and gcm club!
All because with metformin, I shit my fucking brains out like insane amount.
If only I could get off the steroids too, my numbers would drop but fat chance.

This was my reintro to stage Wicked and I fell in love with Alex's Glinda. There's something so elegant about her like her which makes when she loses it either hilarious or devastating. and the way she looks at Elphie for "positively emerald" I was enchanted and firmly back on the Gelphie train after that, Only to find she's not consiidered that gay a Glinda and I wonder what's wrong with my brain.
i don't think anything's wrong with your brain!
i don't actually know what the Overall Discourse is about Socha; my impression is/had been that I was something of an outlier in not considering her Quite Gay. and I am looking forward to one day revisiting Socha because I think I'll see her differently now that I've seen so many more shows and have I think a much stronger appreciation for different eras and takes. when I was going into her run the first time, I had VERY (perhaps unfairly) high hopes and expectations because 1) I'd seen how far MK is willing to go, and 2) I'd seen Socha's socials which are full of her like. flinging herself at mary kate during bows to kiss her on the dang mouth and showing off how green her hands are after shows. and like, it's not that what she does as Glinda ISN'T queer, but it's something much quieter and quirkier than I'd anticipated and like. when a bar (i hesitate to call it THE bar but certainly A bar) has already been set by GCM in terms of what it looks like to Go Gelphie With MK, Socha just had a very steep hill to climb in my first go-around.
[sidebar, which is related: it was only like a week or two ago that my wife pointed out to me that Socha was Medium Alison at the Public and Emily Skeggs was her understudy and like. it definitely made a lot about the perspective of her Glinda click for me in hindsight.]
i suspect i will grow increasingly fonder of her as time passes, but I also want to say that like. even if i don't?? glindas you see live simply have a different standard and it is Right and Natural and Good for you to be like "no you don't understand, I know what I saw." because YOU DID. that's the magic of theater! every night is different and also being in that auditorium is just a fundamentally different thing than seeing it on camera. I've had SEVERAL folks write to me about Allie Trimm and like. have i Seen what they Saw in what's available of Allie that I have access to? no, i haven't. do I think those people are wrong? i do not because they GOT THE ALLIE TRIMM EXPERIENCE and that fuckin means something. much like how in a similar vein I didn't find Allsun O'Malley's Glinda very queer, but I did find her uniquely hilarious and compelling in a way that STILL stands out in my memory and will ALWAYS stand out in my memory because I was there in that room when she made the magic and I know how it felt.
so heck yeah, fight for alex socha! she's your glinda. the glinda that makes you Get Gelphie is sacred.

Secure Your Laravel App: Fix Insufficient Transport Layer Security (TLS)
Introduction
Transport Layer Security (TLS) is vital for ensuring secure communication between clients and servers over the Internet. Insufficient TLS configurations can leave your Laravel web applications exposed to various cyber threats, like Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) attacks. In this blog post, we’ll explain the risks associated with insufficient TLS security in Laravel and provide a detailed guide on how to configure your Laravel application for optimal security.
Tumblr media
Additionally, we’ll show you how to check and resolve potential TLS issues using our free Website Security Scanner tool.
What is Insufficient Transport Layer Security?
Insufficient Transport Layer Security occurs when a website fails to use strong encryption protocols like TLS 1.2 or higher, or when it doesn't properly configure SSL certificates. This exposes web applications to data interception, tampering, and attacks. A properly configured TLS ensures that all data transmitted between the server and client is encrypted and secure.
Common Issues in Laravel with Insufficient TLS Security
Some common causes of insufficient TLS in Laravel include:
Outdated SSL Certificates: Using deprecated SSL/TLS protocols (like SSL 3.0 or TLS 1.0) that are no longer considered secure.
Improper SSL/TLS Configuration: Misconfiguration of the web server or Laravel app that doesn’t force HTTPS or downgrade protection.
Weak Cipher Suites: Servers using weak ciphers, making it easier for attackers to break the encryption.
Lack of HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS): Without HSTS, an attacker can force the browser to use an insecure HTTP connection instead of HTTPS.
How to Fix Insufficient TLS in Laravel
Upgrade Your Laravel App’s TLS Protocol To enforce TLS 1.2 or higher, you'll need to configure your server to support these protocols. Here’s how you can configure your server to prioritize stronger encryption:
In Apache: Modify the ssl.conf file:
SSLProtocol all -SSLv2 -SSLv3 -TLSv1 -TLSv1.1
In Nginx: Edit your nginx.conf file:
ssl_protocols TLSv1.2 TLSv1.3;
These configurations will ensure that your server uses only secure versions of TLS.
2. Force HTTPS in Laravel Laravel provides an easy way to force HTTPS by modifying the .env file and the config/app.php file:
In .env file:
APP_URL=https://yourdomain.com
In config/app.php file:
'url' => env('APP_URL', 'https://yourdomain.com'),
This will ensure that all requests are redirected to HTTPS, preventing insecure HTTP access.
3. Enable HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) HTTP Strict Transport Security is a web security policy mechanism that helps to protect websites against Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) attacks by forcing clients to communicate over HTTPS. Here's how to add HSTS headers to your Laravel app:
In Apache: Add the following line to your ssl.conf or .htaccess file:
Header always set Strict-Transport-Security "max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains"
In Nginx: Add the following line to your nginx.conf file:
add_header Strict-Transport-Security "max-age=31536000; includeSubDomains" always;
4. Use Strong Cipher Suites Weak cipher suites allow attackers to break the encryption. You can configure your server to use strong ciphers:
In Apache:
SSLCipherSuite HIGH:!aNULL:!MD5:!3DES
In Nginx:
ssl_ciphers 'ECDHE-ECDSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256:ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256';
5. Use a Valid SSL/TLS Certificate Ensure that your website uses a valid SSL/TLS certificate from a trusted Certificate Authority (CA). You can get a free SSL certificate from Let's Encrypt.

Note
What are your favorite speedster headcanons?
aside from the newly added vibrating when angry
every speedster has adhd
they all also wear GCM units modified for their speedster systems
they smell like ozone, especially the ones who were struck by lightning
sometimes they can purr
they pull in balloons and other soft, light things any time they get within a couple of feet of them (Barry has had many a sock stuck to the back of his jacket all day)
