Hi guys! I’m back to writing!!!!

With my one of my lovely best friends motivating me on, we are writing a collaborative work on Ao3, which will also be posted on my Wattpad later. As a little treat for the holidays, I am posting the summary, the first few paragraphs of the work and the link to finish reading the chapter if you like it, so here it goes:

Summary

Join the Cast of Holby and Casualty as part of the Harry Potter universe. Between classes, wizard duels, Voldemort’s return and everything in between, join three unlikely heroes in the journey to saving Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Chapter 1: Prologue (preview)

31st October, 1998

Kevin had already gone to bed by the time Jools had been awoken by her child's whimpering cries. Sensing something was wrong, Jools pulled out her wand and raced to Sah's bedroom, where she found her child crying in their crib, a haunting figure standing over them.

Jools waved her wand, snarling as she walked into the room. "Depulso!" She yelled. A bolt of light blue energy flew at the figure, pushing them back. The figure crashed against the wall, knocking over the bookshelf.

This did not deter the figure, however, and he regained his stamina quickly before starting to retaliate. "Expelliarmus!" He yelled.

However, to Jools ears, this was drowned by the send of Kevin shouting "Protego", sending the red spark of the figure's spell shooting off and creating a dent in the wall at the back of the room.

"Take Sah and run, Jools. Get out of the house." Kevin ground out, taking an offensive stance in front of his wife and child. Jools tried to argue, but the figure was already flicking his wand.

Voiceplay Visuals: Halo Theme

I've never played any Halo games before, ever (though I've heard of it, obviously), and this isn't one I watch/listen to very often, but I knew there would be a few things for me to talk about, not just in regards to the actual video, but also in regards to the history of Voiceplay (formerly known as 4:2:Five).

The video was uploaded on the 2nd of October, 2021, and features Scott Porter, who was a founding member of "4:2:Five" (Geoff and Layne are the only two OGs left in the group), and these days is a bit of a small-scale actor, starring in series like Friday Night Lights (the show, not the movie), and Ginny & Georgia. The video was dedicated to Voiceplay's friend and collaborator, Rek Dunn, whom Scott talks about in a segment at the end of the video (which I shall talk about as well, because, well, it gives me more to talk about).

But anyway, let's actually start including some screencaps, shall we?

Holy apocalypse doomsday Batman!

(I swear I'm not actually making fun of the outfits, I just don't really have any specific thoughts on the costuming here, other than there was obviously a theme/vibe/aesthetic they were going for here, and they basically nailed it (and I love Cesar's jacket))

Is it just me or is there a sense of pain/sorrow in Geoff's eyes during a lot of this video? 💔 (he was no doubt thinking of Rek, and I'm sure Layne, Scott, and Eli were thinking about him the whole time as well)

(Also you think this is sad? Well it is, but I've never even watched the video for The Heart Of Life, because I know the context of it, and I've listened to it on Spotify, and the cover alone is heartbreaking enough - watching the video might actually make me tear up)

The editing work on this video is insanely good. This was Layne's arrangement and Layne's video, so I guess it was his editing job as well? There are so many quick cuts and zooms and vocalists popping in and out of sight! And all timed to the arrangement perfectly, of course.

(Also, probably unintentional, but him being the only one not actually looking to the side (though his head is turned that way) highlights the fact that he is the youngest and newest member. Though undoubtedly a brilliant fit for the group and beloved by fans, he doesn't have the history that the rest of the guys do).

So here's the thing: "Voiceplay" actually just started off as a traditional barbershop-quartet acapella singing group with Geoff, Layne, Earl (yes, he was a founding member (that's why it hurt so much when he left)), and another guy (Michael/Mykhal(?) Kilgore or something like that?). Layne was the baritone of the group. The group decided to add a fifth member, a beatboxer, after being inspired by the group Rockapella, and that fifth member was Scott Porter. They called themselves "4:2:Five", because, literally, they went from 4 to 5 members (they didn't become "Voiceplay" till 2011 or 2012). When Scott left the group to go pursue an acting career, Layne took over as the beatboxer/vocal percussionist (and was shown the ropes by Geoff, actually), and he's stuck to it ever since!

All that to say, this is a fun little moment of OG-beatboxer vs current-beatboxer 😁

So that's the actual acapella bit of the video, now time for the elaboration/dedication at the end from Scott! (Also I really love his shirt)

Surprise! Old Voiceplay/4:2:Five pictures! And by "old" I mean look how young they are! I'm guessing that's Earl on the far left, that's definitely Geoff next to him (my god look at how short his hair used to be!), and that's Layne in the middle (he really was always that tall huh)

Apparently the first ever Halo game released, Halo: Combat Evolved, was released in November 2001, so this photo is probably from either late 2001 or sometime in 2002. Maybe a year or two later, but one way another, this is Layne and Geoff in their very early 20s (and look at them now! Aged like fine wine I tell ya.)

(Also I don't know anything about Halo but apparently this video/arrangement was impressive enough for the actual official Halo Youtube channel to comment on it and call it "legendary", as well as a comment from the guy who wrote the theme in the first place, so yeah damn well done guys)

Not exactly a typical Voiceplay Visuals post, but it was one I didn't want to skip over, and for the next post we will be back to our usual fun theatrical awesomeness! Stay tuned!

Nathaniel Shaw hates rich people. Raised in a poor family, by an on-and-off single mother thanks to his absentee father, he had to work for every single cent he’s ever had. He dealt with this with bitterness and resentment, choosing to take it out by punching whoever pissed him off, getting into fights and trouble more often than not as he was growing up. With his athletic talents, it was enough to get him a scholarship to Ogden, but not enough that he’d ever get the chip off his shoulder about being the poor kid around the unbelievably wealthy. He’s over-sensitive, withdrawn, and tactless, but if you get on his good side, he may just allow you to share his weed and show that underneath that, he does have a pisces stellium, and does in fact have feelings beyond just letting them get hurt so he can start hitting people.

HOW THEY EMBODY THEIR TROPE:

Nate is the BRUISER WITH A SOFT CENTER because, at the end of the day, he is far more sensitive than he will ever let on. Everything hurts this Pisces moon, even as he glowers and glares, and yes, punches his way through them. He’s quick to react with anger - which often translates into violence - all while hiding how things are constantly hurting him. It’s easier to ignore it, because there’s nothing he can do. It’s just the hand he was dealt. And if he’s good at anything (which he still thinks may be debatable), it’s throwing a punch.

EXPANDED PERSONALITY:

Most of Nate’s personality is negative. Even what could be a positive trait (such as competitiveness, honesty, sensitivity, intensity….) he tends to turn it up to 1000 until it’s damaging. But honestly, most of it just negative to start with. He’s very withdrawn and broody, spends most of his time and interactions just glowering at people, and yet has an extremely short fuse, so will go from no reaction to swinging in the blink of an eye. he basically throws tantrums like a toddler, albeit a very large, 6′5″ toddler who actually knows how to fight.

However, he is extremely loyal if he decides someone is worth it - spoiler alert, most people aren’t - he will be there for them in the best way Nate knows how. Still tactless, but like, he tries his best. Basically his way of showing emotional support is being like so, uh, you wanna smoke a joint? Because at the end of the day, Nate is not very smart. Emotionally, or in a book smart sense. He can come off a bit of a himbo, just with his attempts to be charming and flirt with women (when he wants to). Plus he’s hot. And he knows it. And isn’t afraid to use it.

Speaking of women (ladies, please run), Nate likes to be pursued. He hates having to make the first move - probably due to of feeling like he isn’t worth it, more on that below - and he will flirt, charm, seduce, but when it actually comes down to it, he wants the other person to make that final leap. Some sort of validation or something. He likes when girls pay attention to him, and tries to coax it out of them. However, he also has a lot of resentment towards his mother for chasing after his father and bending over backwards to try to make things work, so he also loses interest as soon as a girl is too interested. And when he loses interest, he won’t say anything, he’ll just ghost or cheat. The only kind of confrontation Natey boi is good at is one that involves his fists.

His default way of connecting with people is…well, sex. Nate has no examples of a healthy emotional relationship, and he isn’t good at making friends, so typically, when a girl wants to get close to him, he fakes intimacy with his head between their legs, making them feel like they have him because he’s sleeping with them. Like he’s open and connected to them just because they boned. In reality, it’s just his way of avoiding the emotional intimacy he’s petrified of, because he knows it’ll come back to hurt him. The only downside to all that is the rare times he does want to emotionally connect with someone, he has no idea how to. All he knows how to offer is his body, really.

Nate’s very dry, prone to swearing (he did grow up in Australia), and his sense of humor is very deadpan. If you actually talk to him, you realize there’s a lot of sarcasm in his cynicism, put the issue is that he’s extremely withdrawn from most people, and honestly doesn’t even see the point in having conversations with them. He also uses this to hide a lot of his fundamental insecurities - he genuinely feels like he’s not going to amount to much, mostly because he’s been made to feel that way. He acts brash and confident, but he really does struggle with feeling like he’s worth anything. It’s part of why he gets so over-competitive, because he wants to prove he’s good at something.

CONNECTION IDEAS

i still really would like nate to get into music, so someone to help encourage him along that path would be....amazing. he really loves music, but his father was a deadbeat musician, and since nate HATES him sm...he's gotta come to terms with that side of himself

RELATIONSHIP WITH GREER:

When the Shaw family moved back to Sag Harbor from Australia, where Nate’s mother grew up, they instantly realized they were not on the same class playing feel as everyone else. They had never been wealthy. Four children and barely steady incomes from their parents - when they were even together - guaranteed that. The kids all realized pretty quickly they were going to have to get jobs, especially now that their father was completely out of the picture. Nate ended up working for a few families who ‘summered’ (god, he hated that word) nearby, working as a pool boy. One of those families…yeah, you guessed it, was the Morrison’s. shortly after he got invited to an illicit fighting ring, which had money being given to winners and tossed around in bets by the rich kids who vacationed in the summer

that's how nate ended up hanging out with them and partying with them despite being poorTM

early in the fall his senior year, there was a back to school party where the house they were in ended up burning down - since nate was the only one who didn't have rich parents, who do you think took the fall? (hint: nate)

stanford stopped recruiting him & he broke up with his girlfriend at the time (actually, he just ghosted her, but that counts)

did he end up getting a scholarship at ogden in return for keeping his mouth shut? maybe (yes)

when he came to ogden as a freshman in college, he came in as an engineering major (why? no idea - think someone told him too and he was like, well, i have no hopes or dreams of my own, so y not), failed a bunch of classes, and then ended up switching to an undecided major for his junior year…so is he going to graduate on time? absolutely not. he is very much behind in his schooling.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT QUESTIONS: HARD MODE

Describe a scenario in which your character feels most comfortable. There isn’t a lot that makes Ginny feel super comfortable. She’s a little anxious ball of mess most of the time. However, some of her calmest moments involve her father, and trying out new chip recipes in his shop. The only way that moment could probably be more relaxing is if Beckett were somehow there, trying them with her. She feels the most comfortable around family and her lifelong friend.

Does your character have recurring themes in their dreams? Ginny is such a deep sleeper that she hardly remembers her dreams. They leave her mind within the first few minutes of waking up. However, if she were hard pressed to remember and wracked her mind for information, she’d probably recall a lot of her dreams being about water. Being trapped in a boat, swimming for hours on end, running from some ocean beast.

Ele, por sua vez, arrasava corações sendo o quarterback do time de futebol da escola com um futuro promissor, e assim que seus olhos bateram em Roselyn, Joseph soube que tinha que tê-la, fazendo desta sua missão pessoal durante todo o primeiro ano. Foi na metade daquele mesmo ano letivo que ele sucedeu, e assim seguiram juntos durante os próximos três anos de ensino médio. Eram o casal perfeito com o relacionamento perfeito, apaixonados como só dois adolescentes cheios de hormônios podem ficar. Fizeram planos que consistiam em sair da cidade, "Nós vamos começar nossa vida em outro lugar", Joseph prometia, e Roselyn acreditava. Acreditou o suficiente para não entrar em pânico ao descobrir que estava grávida no baile de formatura.

O jovem casal pareceu feliz com o nascimento da filha, e os primeiros meses foram os melhores de todos, segundo Roselyn, mas não demorou para que as coisas começassem a desandar. As brigas começaram quando Lucille tinha apenas quatro meses de vida, a maioria delas motivadas por frustrações que a vida adulta lhes tinha trazido. Joseph culpava Roselyn e a filha por ter aberto mão de sua bolsa de estudos, e quanto mais tempo se passava mais impossível a situação parecia, até que um dia as brigas pararam. O dia em que Joseph saiu pela manhã sem avisar e não voltou, deixando apenas um bilhete com um "Me perdoe" rabiscado.

Aos 17 anos e sozinha com um bebê nos braços, Roselyn sequer teve tempo de sofrer pelo abandono, pois agora tinha que encontrar uma forma de sustento. A mulher então acabou conseguindo um emprego de garçonete na lanchonete local, trocou a casa que morava por um trailer, e por muito tempo foram só as duas, até a chegada de Philip Jenkins quando Lucille tinha 10 anos.

O casamento com o homem foi por amor, o mais cego de todos que não permitia que Roselyn enxergasse por trás dos sorrisos gentis e presentes bonitos. Conviver com tal sentimento somado com a culpa de não conseguir amar a filha da forma que achava que deveria se tornava cada vez mais difícil, ela não queria ter que lidar com mais um fracasso, dessa vez como mãe, e por isso Roselyn começou a descontar suas frustrações em entorpecentes ilícitos, mais especificamente cocaína, até evoluir para a heroína. Foi nessa mesma época que as investidas de Philip começaram, e também quando Lucille começou a enxergar as coisas como realmente eram: Philip não era seu pai, tampouco tinha intenção de ser; tentar entrar no quarto dela toda a noite deixava aquilo bem claro. A vida doméstica rapidamente se tornou um inferno, entre as crises de sua mãe de abstinência e de raiva de sua mãe e as tentativas de abuso de Philip, que sempre acabavam em surras quando ela tentava escapar, até o dia que Lucille atingiu o limite. Foi no seu aniversário de 16 anos que Lucille pegou todo o dinheiro que conseguiu juntar dentro de casa e fugiu, deixando para trás uma mãe omissa e um padrasto abusivo. Não sabia para onde iria ou o que faria, só que não conseguia mais ficar dentro daquela casa sabendo que a qualquer momento Philip conseguiria o que queria e Roselyn não faria nada para defende-la. A partir daí sua vida se resumiu a sobrevivência e Lucille o fez como pode; casou-se com um caminhoneiro aos 17, viveu um relacionamento abusivo e aos 20 fugia novamente levando as economias do marido consigo. Acabou se envolvendo em situações complicadas, coisas que ela futuramente não se orgulharia de admitir que havia feito, mas que lhe garantiram um teto sob a cabeça e comida no estômago e, consequentemente, alguns inimigos no processo. O auge, no entanto, foi ter se envolvido com alguém que subestimou, e mais uma vez Lucille fugiu, escapando da morte por um triz e então assumindo a identidade de Samantha Jones, três anos antes de conhecer Klaus Hartman, o alvo perfeito. Mais velho, rico e, o mais importante, capaz de oferecer a proteção que ela precisava. Ela, por sua vez, sabia que não passava de mais uma jogada para vigiar todo e qualquer passo que ela desse fora da linha como Klaus sempre fazia, e não estava disposta a deixar acontecer sem uma luta. E Samantha Hartman sempre conseguia o que queria.

Samantha Hartman é muito. Não há maneira melhor de descrevê-la além desta. É o tipo de pessoa que não acredita em meios termos, é oito ou oitenta, intensa até o último fio de cabelo, mesmo que insista em manter aquela parte de si trancada a sete chaves. Aprendeu com muita pouca idade que contos de fadas não existem, mas monstros são reais e o príncipe encantado não aparece para te salvar no final, ninguém o fará além de você mesmo. Então Samantha aprendeu a ser seu próprio cavalheiro em armadura brilhante.

Manipuladora, a mulher consegue facilmente com um sorriso e um cruzar de pernas. É muito bonita e sabe disso, usando sua aparência como sua maior arma de ataque e defesa; ela poderia ser a mulher fatal, mas também a donzela indefesa em perigo, e se saía perfeitamente bem nos dois papéis, pois a verdade é que Samantha Hartman é adaptável como um camaleão, teve que aprender a ser para sobreviver num mundo em que era subestimada e atacada única e exclusivamente por ser mulher, por isso Sam partia de um único princípio atualmente: sempre ataque primeiro.

Philip morreu quatro anos depois que Samantha fugiu, deixando para Roselyn nada além de dividas. Samantha acabou as assumindo, assim como a sua mãe, a quem sustenta por debaixo dos panos.

Ser uma mulher sozinha por tanto tempo deu a ela habilidades as quais se orgulhava. Samantha sabia empunhar uma arma muito bem, além de entender uma coisa ou outra de defesa pessoal.

Ama desenhar. É algo que mantém em segredo por não se achar boa o suficiente, mas deseja secretamente expor seu trabalho um dia.

Atualmente em seu segundo mandato como prefeito de Miami, Klaus planeja se candidatar a governador. Mantém uma imagem de perfeição, de defensor de causas sociais, mas além de ser extremamente possessivo e controlador com sua esposa, é envolvido em esquemas ilícitos de fraude, tráfico de armas e desvio de dinheiro da corporação policial.

Klaus tem uma filha da idade de Samantha que não suporta a madrasta, pois acha que ela só está com o pai por interesse — o que não é mentira —. Samantha, por sua vez, não dá a mínima para isso, desde que a mulher não entre em seu caminho.

Possui um forte sotaque sulista, disfarçado no dia a dia com muito esforço. No entanto, em momentos de estresse todo o sotaque volta sem que ela consiga controlar.

Tem secretamente o desejo de ser mãe, porém, é algo que mantém enterrado a sete chaves. Não acha que seria capaz de ser uma boa mãe pois não sabe como uma boa mãe deveria ser.
