Hello bea, I am planning on getting a steam deck, and want to play the Dark Souls series for real.
What’s the best way to git gud? Are the remasters universally terrible? Do I just start at 1? Help me twisted guardian of Dork Souls
hello friend pablo. congratulations on taking a chance on the dark souls trilogy. this is a long answer covering many things, sometimes even the things you asked.
BUYING THE GAMES: make sure to get them on sale! i think the prices are, frankly, absolutely bonkers. these games are so, so old and they still want 40 to 60 dollars for them?! they reliably go on sale every steam sale for a less hair-raising price.
if you end up disliking the dark souls gameplay, theres always sekiro, which is pretty different. or even elden ring, which is the slickest and most accessible to new time players.
REMASTER QUALITY: the remaster of ds1, which is the only version available, is actually good; my complaints about it come down to aesthetic choices i dislike that no sane person should care about. it comes with the dlc (you may have to look up a guide for this once you get deeper into the game).
ds2 has a huge problem: there are two versions, and no one can agree on which is better. they are also significantly different in weird ways, like the enemy placements and the amount of enemies. i would suggest "scholar of the first sin" edition, since it should include the dlc.
i dont like ds2 and have never finished it. the movement changes turned me off bad. i do not usually recommend it to people and it is not required to understand the gist of 3.
ds3 has only the one version. ashes of ariandel is fromsoft's worst dlc, imo. ringed city is fine. you might as well get them if they arent included.
people who love ds2 tend to hate ds3, and vis-versa. i liked ds3. its fine.
GAMEPLAY TIPS (GENERAL):
learning to parry is always worth it
dont use ranged weapons
use a guide when youre really stuck, utilizing collective knowledge is the backbone of DS games.
sometimes its better just to run past enemy mobs than try to fight them
its ok to die. its ok to lose souls. easy come, easy go.
it is always better to learn not to get hit than it is to pump points into HP.
the games are esoteric and opaque by design. [defensively] its bad on purpose!
use your upgrade materials on your weapons first and foremost.
NEVER, EVER EXHAUST YOUR STAMINA. PUT YOUR SHIELD DOWN WHEN NOT USING IT.
read item descriptions
being heavy is almost always worse than being unarmored
GAMEPLAY TIPS (DS1): ds1 is showing its age quite a bit at this point. start here, because going back is pretty difficult.
pyromancy is broken in your favor. pyromancer is a great class choice for a first time player
you gotta do a lot of running around in this game. like a lot of hoofing it to and fro. sorry.
getting the curse status effect is one of the worst things that can happen to you in this game. when you meet the npc who sells the curse breaking item "purging stone", buy one.
each summon adds a huge % to the boss' health. summon wisely.
look up what each stat does before putting points into them. some are basically worthless and every point counts.
talk to npcs repeatedly until they start to cycle through dialogue.
there are stretches of this game that are tedious and intentionally aggravating. it was novel and exciting game design back then to be told to fuck ourselves.
some starting gifts are better than others. its worth looking up instead of guessing, unless you want the authentic experience
didnt play da2 sorry boss. cant help ya here
GAMEPLAY TIPS (DS3): remember ds1? its that but faster and with way more quality of life updates.
all the stats do different things now so you have to look it up again
theres fast travel in this one immediately and the tedious bits of 1 are largely absent here, barring the ashes of ariandel dlc.
pyromancy is no longer broken.
unlike ds1, you can join any covenant with no consequences
and of course you can always ask me/commiserate with me here!! good luck, chosen undead!

Dulce was eliminated from the competition. Is this the end of the road for her?
Start from the beginning
Previous | Next
(1.) [Sofia] Good thing everyone is okay!
[Mia] Chefs, you guys have 5 minutes left on the clock! Please start plating soon.
(2.) [Alex] When I finished plating, I took a look at my dish and thought about it. I was not really happy with it. Is it missing something?
(3.) [Dulce] I did a taste test when the 5-minute mark hit... but some of the vegetables weren't cooked all the way. I didn't even try the goat yet. There was no time. I put the lid back on and hoped for the best.
(4.) [Andrea] 1 minute left!
[Rubiya] Oh no... I forgot the lemon juice in the jicama dip. I don't think I saw any in the fridge? Maybe I can cut up the limes instead and put them on the side? I see some at the pantry over there.
(5.) [Andrea] Chefs, your time is up. Please come to the judges' table.
(6.) N/A
(7.) [Mia] Chefs, you all look rather down. You don't seem as optimistic as you did in the last round. What's on your mind?
(8.) [Rubiya] Haha, I guess we all had some sort of hiccup.
[Dulce] Sorta, aha.
[Alex] Mhm.
(9.) [Sofia] We've all been there, guys. Even me! Before I made it big, a lot of people didn't believe in me. I know we have to judge your food, but just remember that we all believe in you guys. That's why you're here. Mia saw something in all of you.
(10.) [Alex] Thank you.
[Rubiya] We appreciate the reassurance.
[Dulce] Yeah, thanks.
(11.) [Rubiya] Alright! First, we have Chef Rubiya's appetizer.
[Rubiya] Chefs, I have made you chana masala goat tacos with a hatch green chile salsa and jicama dip.
(12.) [Carlo] The goat is really juicy and flavorful. Also, the jicama dip adds some nice freshness to the tacos.
(13.) [Mia] The only bad thing is that the tortillas got cold and soggy... that's not good, especially because tacos are so reliant on the tortillas.
(14.) [Sofia] But hey, you opting for the limes instead of the lemon juice worked out well for you. I know these tacos aren't exactly authentic, but I've eaten a lot of tacos in Del Sol Valley and many taco stands there have limes instead of lemons. It makes a big difference.
(15.) [Rubiya] Thank you, judges.
[Andrea] Next, we have Chef Alex's appetizer.
[Alex] Chefs, I made for you an egusi soup with cubed goat meat, spiralized jicama, and chana masala.
(16.) [Alex] ...but I did use pumpkin seeds instead of egusi seeds.
[Mia] That is a common substitution! Let me say, this soup is quite rich. Also, you have a git when it comes to plating.
(17.) [Carlo] I have to agree. The cubed goat and spiralized jicama are nice. That shows you have technique. I just think it needs something else to balance out the heartiness of the soup. You went a little too light on the vegetables.
(18.) [Sofia] Yeah, I found some of the flavors a bit overpowering, but at least the goat is cooked all the way. It's tender.
(19.) [Alex] Thank you, judges.
[Andrea] Finally, we have Chef Dulce's entree.
[Dulce] Judges, I made you all a tomato soup with chana masala and chopped hatch green chiles and jicama.
(20.) [Mia] You've done it again, Dulce. You know how to combine flavors perfectly. The cucumber, onion, and bell peppers make this dish so fulfilling.
(21.) [Sofia] Ohh, I wish I could enjoy this more thoroughly. I am not sure if the added red chiles were a good move. I can't really taste the rest of it.
(22.) [Carlo] They're both right. It's delicious, but the spice is too much. The hatch green chiles themselves were fine. The goat and some of the vegetables are kind of hard to chew too.
(23.) [Dulce] Thank you, judges.
[Andrea] Well done, chefs. Please go to the room next door so the judges can have a discussion. We'll see you in a bit.
(24.) [Rubiya] Guys! I served them cold and soggy tacos! I think it's over for me.
[Alex] I'm not feeling good either. I'm not exactly seeking Carlo's approval anymore, but he's still a judge...
(25.) [Dulce] Yeah, it was a brutal round for all of us, huh? I don't know what I was thinking.
[Rubiya] I thought it would get easier with each round, but I'm not so sure anymore.
(26.) [Andrea] Chefs, welcome back to the judges' table. Judges?
(27.) [Mia] This was a difficult decision to make.
[Carlo] Even for me. Everyone made a delicious dish.. but they all came with their major faults.
[Mia] And unfortunately, Dulce is being diced in this round.

♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡ Kate needed a break from the city and its people. The endless buildings and standard scenery were boring her. After a friend of a friend mentioned they had a place for her to enjoy the countryside, that's exactly what she did.
The car's tires crackled and dug into the rocks and dirt as she pulled into the driveway, driving slowly down it as she saw cows starting to walk towards the fence she was driving next to, mooing loudly.
She stopped at a big red house that sat in the back of the property. An older man patted what Kate assumed was his daughter on the shoulder and said something before he and the woman next to him climbed into a truck and left as Kate parked.
She stepped out, slapped in the face by the smell of cow manure piled nearby. Her face contorted into a small expression of disgust as you walked up to her.
"Welcome, darlin'. I heard you were the city girl coming to help on the farm?" You asked, trying to stifle a laugh at her face of disgust from the smell. "It's manure day; people are coming to collect it for their fields," you added with a smile as you put your hand out to shake hers.
"Nice to meet you. I'll be showin' you around the place and teachin' you how to do the farm chores," you added before she took your hand.
"Nice to meet you too," Kate muttered with a polite smile until she jumped slightly as she felt a wet, cold sensation on her exposed ankle.
"Oh, that's wee Lass, call her Lassie. Go on, git'," you said swatting the air slightly before she ran back towards the field. "She's good, just nosey. Let's grab your bags, and you'll be staying in the room next to mine," you said as you opened the car's trunk and started grabbing the bags as you spoke.
"Oh, you don't have to—I've got it," Kate said, trying to help you grab her bags.
"Oh, it's alright, darlin'. Let's get inside before all of the cows come runnin' over; they get loud when they want attention," you said with a small laugh before you easily carried the bags to the house.
"Thank you," Kate said, noticing how easily you carried the bags, how willing you were to help, and how sweet you were to her right away.
"Hope my car treated you alright; left it at the airport for you last night. Hope the drive wasn't too long, and don't worry about it; these are lighter than the hay bales I throw around," you said with another small laugh. As you led Kate into the house, she couldn't help but feel a sense of relief from the city's hustle and bustle. The country air, even with a hint of manure, was a welcome change. Inside, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. A mix of rustic charm and modern conveniences made the house feel like a comfortable haven.
"You've got a beautiful place here," Kate remarked, genuinely appreciating the simplicity and authenticity of the farmhouse.
"Ah, thank you, darlin'. It's been in the family for generations. Now, let me show you around," you said, leading her through the cozy living room, where the scent of fresh wood lingered. The walls adorned with family photos told a story of a life rooted in the land.
The kitchen was spacious and well-equipped, and the view from the window revealed the vast greenery stretching out to meet the sky.
As Kate settled into the room next to yours, she took note of the carefully chosen furnishings and the thoughtfulness in every detail. It was evident that you cared for the place deeply. The next morning after Kate fell asleep in the homey feeling space she was shocked to hear soft knocks before she welcomed you in to the room before her eyes glanced out the window to see it was still dark. "Time to get up, cows need some hay, and some feed the chickens need to be let out of the coop, the waterers need to be filled, the ducks need some food, the pig wants his feed and some treats." You listed off the chores as you carried in some overalls, a pair of tall rubber boots, and a thick shirt for her to wear.
"mornin' dear," you greeted her with a cheerful smile as she finally sat up in the bed. "The farm waits for no one, you know? Time to embrace the country routine."
Kate, still half-asleep, nodded in acknowledgment. "Alright, I'm up. But can I just say it's still practically the middle of the night?"
You chuckled. "City time and farm time don't always sync up. But trust me, once you get used to it, you won't mind the early starts. Its already 4:45am, I usually start at 4:00."
With a good-natured grumble, Kate changed into the farm-appropriate attire you provided. The overalls were a bit big on her, but the boots fit perfectly. As she followed you outside into the pre-dawn darkness, the fresh, crisp air invigorated her senses.
The farm was a different world at this hour. The stars still shone brightly, and the moon cast a soft glow over the fields. The sounds of the animals awakening gradually filled the air.
You demonstrated each chore patiently, explaining the routine of caring for the animals. The cows lowed in the distance, the chickens clucked in their coop, and the rooster crowed loudly in the distance.
By the time the sun painted the sky with hues of pink and gold, Kate had forgotten the early hour. The simplicity and purposeful work had a grounding effect. The connection to nature and the animals made the chores more fulfilling than she could have imagined.
As you both finished up the morning tasks, you turned to Kate with a satisfied grin. "See, not so bad, is it? The farm has its own magic, especially when you're a part of it."
Kate, though tired, couldn't help but smile back. The exhaustion was different, a result of meaningful work and a closeness to the land she had never experienced before. The simplicity, the authenticity, and your warm companionship made her appreciate the charm of farm life.
As you headed back to the house, Kate realized that the farm, with its early mornings and hard work, had become a place of solace. And in you, she found not just a farm guide but a friend who welcomed her into this world with open arms.
♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡~♡
A/N: I may have a Pt. 2 to this and a version where Kate is the farmer! I do live on a farm so this was just something fun to write and if you think the accent is written poorly its because I've never written my own accent (I have one sadly). I also am 21 today! yay?

Whelp, this didn't take long to finish. Time to round out my Supa Strikas takes with some much beloved side characters.
Nandi: Best. Sister. Ever. Rookie Season 2 needs to have her bonding with the other Strikas and embarrassing Shakes in front of them
Spenza: Elementary, my dear Shakes
Supa Fran: How every writer sees themselves while making contributions to the fandom. Come to think of it, she has pretty much every single tic most fandom writers claim so she should be totally relatable
Jean-Pierre: I know he's a giant a-hole to the team, but as someone who loves baking but is surrounded by Weight Watchers killjoys, I just have to sympathize with this man
Mrs. Altivo: Marc Zuckerburg's wine aunt
Spike Dawson: Is he a Joker or a Jigsaw parody? Also, why does Klaus not loathe this guy for hoarding strudel?
El Ariette: GIT OFF HIS LAWN
Ursula: I get the feeling she's always two seconds away from shanking someone
Ginerva: I don't care if she didn't say anything more than three consecutive words in the show. Her accent is amazing.
Skarra's Niece: I put her in the pile with Morgan Stark, in that she was present for 5 minutes of screen time, has basically no lines, and yet the fandom collectively goes gaga over her for literally no reason. Seriously, if I wanted Kids Who Say The Darndest Things, I'd go on TikTok.
Xing: See earlier take on Riano. I will not forgive Moonbug for not having her come back as a consultant for Sa Ming and giving her the character depth she deserves
Hack: See previous takes on Xing and Riano. The least they could have done was make him part of Spenza and Supa Fran's entourage in the later seasons
Attak: See previous... you know what, I'm not gonna continue like this. Just assume I hate Moonbug for conjuring up characters with great potential and then throwing them away after one episode
Kat/Foxy: The biggest mystery is how a guy like Skarra kept a lady like this in good standing long enough to call in a favor
Nanny Garcia: Can we get an episode where someone makes El Matador cry, and she shows up and beats the snot out of them with her carpet slippers? I really want authentic, angry, Abelita energy out of her.
And so ends my Supablr takes series (assuming Rookie Season or the main series doesn't continue). Fortunately, I have plenty more Supablr content waiting in the wings. Stay tuned.

What is Argo CD? And When Was Argo CD Established?
Tumblr media
What Is Argo CD?
Argo CD is declarative Kubernetes GitOps continuous delivery.
In DevOps, ArgoCD is a Continuous Delivery (CD) technology that has become well-liked for delivering applications to Kubernetes. It is based on the GitOps deployment methodology.
When was Argo CD Established?
Argo CD was created at Intuit and made publicly available following Applatix’s 2018 acquisition by Intuit. The founding developers of Applatix, Hong Wang, Jesse Suen, and Alexander Matyushentsev, made the Argo project open-source in 2017.
Why Argo CD?
Declarative and version-controlled application definitions, configurations, and environments are ideal. Automated, auditable, and easily comprehensible application deployment and lifecycle management are essential.
Getting Started
Quick Start
kubectl create namespace argocd kubectl apply -n argocd -f https://raw.githubusercontent.com/argoproj/argo-cd/stable/manifests/install.yaml
For some features, more user-friendly documentation is offered. Refer to the upgrade guide if you want to upgrade your Argo CD. Those interested in creating third-party connectors can access developer-oriented resources.
How it works
Argo CD defines the intended application state by employing Git repositories as the source of truth, in accordance with the GitOps pattern. There are various approaches to specify Kubernetes manifests:
Applications for Customization
Helm charts
JSONNET files
Simple YAML/JSON manifest directory
Any custom configuration management tool that is set up as a plugin
The deployment of the intended application states in the designated target settings is automated by Argo CD. Deployments of applications can monitor changes to branches, tags, or pinned to a particular manifest version at a Git commit.
Architecture
The implementation of Argo CD is a Kubernetes controller that continually observes active apps and contrasts their present, live state with the target state (as defined in the Git repository). Out Of Sync is the term used to describe a deployed application whose live state differs from the target state. In addition to reporting and visualizing the differences, Argo CD offers the ability to manually or automatically sync the current state back to the intended goal state. The designated target environments can automatically apply and reflect any changes made to the intended target state in the Git repository.
Components
API Server
The Web UI, CLI, and CI/CD systems use the API, which is exposed by the gRPC/REST server. Its duties include the following:
Status reporting and application management
Launching application functions (such as rollback, sync, and user-defined actions)
Cluster credential management and repository (k8s secrets)
RBAC enforcement
Authentication, and auth delegation to outside identity providers
Git webhook event listener/forwarder
Repository Server
An internal service called the repository server keeps a local cache of the Git repository containing the application manifests. When given the following inputs, it is in charge of creating and returning the Kubernetes manifests:
URL of the repository
Revision (tag, branch, commit)
Path of the application
Template-specific configurations: helm values.yaml, parameters
A Kubernetes controller known as the application controller keeps an eye on all active apps and contrasts their actual, live state with the intended target state as defined in the repository. When it identifies an Out Of Sync application state, it may take remedial action. It is in charge of calling any user-specified hooks for lifecycle events (Sync, PostSync, and PreSync).
Features
Applications are automatically deployed to designated target environments.
Multiple configuration management/templating tools (Kustomize, Helm, Jsonnet, and plain-YAML) are supported.
Capacity to oversee and implement across several clusters
Integration of SSO (OIDC, OAuth2, LDAP, SAML 2.0, Microsoft, LinkedIn, GitHub, GitLab)
RBAC and multi-tenancy authorization policies
Rollback/Roll-anywhere to any Git repository-committed application configuration
Analysis of the application resources’ health state
Automated visualization and detection of configuration drift
Applications can be synced manually or automatically to their desired state.
Web user interface that shows program activity in real time
CLI for CI integration and automation
Integration of webhooks (GitHub, BitBucket, GitLab)
Tokens of access for automation
Hooks for PreSync, Sync, and PostSync to facilitate intricate application rollouts (such as canary and blue/green upgrades)
Application event and API call audit trails
Prometheus measurements
To override helm parameters in Git, use parameter overrides.

Full Stack Developer vs. Front End Developer vs. Back End Developer
Tumblr media
The role of a web developer is always included in the lists of high-paying IT jobs. This is because web developers are essential in today’s digital world. They create amazing websites, high-performing e-commerce sites, and other web-based applications. If you want to be a web developer, you must understand that full-stack developer skills are in great demand. However, do you understand the differences between full-stack, front-end, and back-end web development? In this post, we’ll see the differences between these three job roles, skills, and salaries.
What is Web Development?
The process of developing a website on the internet is known as web development. The non-design components of a website, such as building features and functioning with programming, markup, and scripting languages, are referred to as web development. Developers focus on technical aspects of website development such as architecture, programming, and application integration, as well as visuals.
A web developer is someone who does the following:
Creates and maintains webpages and other web-based applications.
Creates a website from a web design.
They collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and designers to understand the concept.
Can focus on frontend or backend development. Even as a full-stack developer, if necessary.
Types of Web Development
Front End Development: This aspect of web development focuses on what the user interacts with directly, i.e., the user interface of a website or web application. Front-end development deals with the design, layout, and interactivity of a site, ensuring that it’s visually appealing and user-friendly.
Back End Development: The back end is the part of a website or application that operates behind the scenes. It manages data, user authentication, and the server-side logic, ensuring the smooth functioning of the website.
Now, let’s delve into each of these roles in detail.
What is front-end development?
Front-end development, often referred to as client-side development, is the process of creating the visual elements of a website or web application that users interact with directly. It involves writing code for the user interface, optimizing website performance, and ensuring the site looks and functions correctly on various devices and browsers.
Who is a front-end developer?
A front-end developer, also known as a client-side developer, is responsible for turning web designs into a functioning website or application. They work closely with web designers and back-end developers to create an engaging and responsive user experience.
What are the front-end developer’s skills?
Front-end developers should be proficient in the following skills:
Mastery of HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is fundamental for structuring and styling web pages.
Proficiency in JavaScript is crucial for adding interactivity and dynamic features to a website.
Knowledge of front-end frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js, which simplify and expedite development.
The ability to create websites that look and function well on various devices and screen sizes.
Ensuring that the website performs consistently across different browsers.

Show Boat (1936)
Tumblr media
The 1936 film adaptation of "Show Boat," directed by James Whale, encapsulates the ideological tensions of its source material. It addresses issues of racism, appropriation of black culture, women's independence, and the clash between rural and urban identities, presenting a nuanced exploration of these complex societal issues against the backdrop of early 20th-century America.
Racism is central to the film and is represented through characters like Julie La Verne. Julie's experiences as a woman of mixed race expose the deeply ingrained prejudices and systemic discrimination prevalent in the segregated South. Her portrayal highlights not only the challenges faced by individuals navigating their racial identity but also the cultural appropriation rampant in the entertainment industry at the time. Through Julie's character, "Show Boat" offers a critique of the hypocrisy and cruelty of racial segregation, shedding light on the profound injustices endured by marginalized communities.
Parallel to its exploration of racism, the film also grapples with the evolving role of women, exemplified through Magnolia Hawks. Magnolia's journey towards independence and self-discovery challenges traditional gender norms, as she breaks free from societal expectations to pursue her passion for performing. Her character arc reflects broader shifts in gender dynamics during the early 20th century, as women began to assert their autonomy and challenge restrictive gender roles.
The film also discusses broader cultural anxieties about modernity, urbanization, and mass culture prevalent in early 20th-century America. Regionalism, depicted as a nostalgic longing for rural authenticity. The film's portrayal of rural landscapes and folk culture serves to counterbalance the homogenizing effects of modernity and technology.

As Joe sings "Ol' Man River," the lyrics depict the toils and struggles of African American laborers working along the Mississippi River. The lyrics "Ah gits weary An' sick of tryin' Ah'm tired of livin' An' skeered of dyin', But ol' man river, He jes'keeps rolling' along" encapsulates the resignation and fatalism felt by those trapped in cycles of poverty and oppression. Through this repetition, the song emphasizes the relentless, unyielding nature of the river—a metaphor for the forces of societal injustice that weigh heavily on Joe and his community.
The musical number also serves as a poignant commentary on the exploitation of black labor by white employers. Joe's lyrics lament the backbreaking work endured by black workers, contrasted with the privilege and indifference of the wealthy elite who benefit from their labor. Lines like "He don' plant taters, He don't plant cotton, An' dem dat plants'em is soon forgotten, But ol'man river, He jes keeps rollin'along," highlight the dehumanizing nature of the labor system, where black workers were expected to toil endlessly with little reward or recognition.
Furthermore, the lighting and cinematography during this musical number are carefully orchestrated to evoke a sense of mood and atmosphere. Soft, diffused lighting creates a sense of melancholy and introspection, highlighting the somber tone of the song's lyrics. Additionally, long shots and wide angles are employed to capture the expansive landscape, reinforcing the sense of isolation and insignificance felt by the characters in the face of societal oppression.
In essence, "Show Boat" offers a complex portrayal of American identity and cultural dynamics, highlighting the interplay between race, gender, and regionalism amidst the backdrop of a rapidly changing society.
