Everyone realizes what a shock the night sky is to the people of the First (mostly a pleasant one).
But what about sunrise and sunset, the moments between? That riot of color that delights, the beauty that transfixes even those who’ve never been denied either day or night? Do the villagers of Stilltide flock to the beach in the dark to watch the dawn tint the clouds pink while the stars fade until the sun emerges in a flash of fire from the sea? Do the Night’s Blessed and the Viis build platforms at the top of trees just so they can greet the herald of the sea of stars, the orange and golden fire of sunset? Do the peoples of Ahm Arang watch the fading light change the sands to orange just before the dark descends like a blanket, bringing with it a sudden cold breeze and the newly welcome relief from the sun’s blaze? Do the pixies wake in time to gather at Mithai Gorianda and dance in the fire of the sunset to greet the returning stars?
Do the people of the Crystarium rise early enough to watch the pink of the sunrise, or pause their work to the sun vanish and the stars return?
(foggy sunrise in Lakeland)
(sunset in the Sea of Clouds---not the First, admittedly, but it’s my favorite sunset screenshot...)
As wondrous as they find the return of the night, the glorious beauty of sunrises and sunsets must inspire a thousand thousand poems and songs in the decade after.
