Expanding Your Service Portfolio:
Go Beyond Transportation: Move beyond ride-hailing and delivery to offer a wider range of on-demand services. This could include errands, handyman services, pet care, or even house cleaning. Cater to diverse user needs and create a one-stop shop for convenience.
Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with local businesses to broaden your service offerings Partner with restaurants that don't have their own delivery infrastructure or salons that want to expand their customer reach. Leverage their existing customer base to create a win-win situation.
Optimizing Your Revenue Streams:
Commission-Based System: Implement a commission fee on each successful transaction conducted through your platform. This incentivizes all participants (drivers, service providers, and your platform) to deliver exceptional service and keep user prices competitive. Ensure your commission rates are fair and transparent.
Dynamic Pricing Models: Consider dynamic pricing for services like ride-hailing or delivery during peak hours or high demand periods. This ensures service availability and compensates providers fairly for increased workload. However, maintain transparency to avoid user frustration.
In-App Advertising: Partner with relevant businesses to display targeted advertisements within your app. Ensure the ads are non-intrusive and provide value to users, like showcasing nearby restaurants or promoting special offers from partnered businesses.
Enhancing User Experience (UX):
Seamless User Interface: Prioritize a user-friendly design that facilitates easy booking, real-time tracking of service providers, and clear communication channels. This keeps users engaged and returning for more.
Advanced Search Filters: Integrate robust search filters allowing users to refine their searches by location, category, price range, and even service provider ratings. This helps users find exactly what they're looking for quickly and efficiently.
Multiple Payment Options: Offer a variety of secure payment options, including credit cards, debit cards, mobile wallets, and even in-app payment processing. Cater to user preferences and ensure a smooth payment experience.
Building User Loyalty:
Loyalty Programs: Reward frequent users with points, discounts, or exclusive deals on various services. This incentivizes repeat business and strengthens user loyalty across the entire platform.
Referral Programs: Encourage user acquisition through referral programs where users earn rewards for referring friends and family. Leverage existing user networks for organic growth.
Exceptional Customer Service: Provide prompt and efficient customer support to address user concerns and maintain a positive user experience. This builds trust and encourages users to choose your platform over competitors.

Like Fine Wine

âȘthe one where you canât resist haydenâs look for his role in ahsoka.
Warnings: hubby hayden bc i want to marry this man so badly, current age (or 41 year old) hayden, smut, fluff, pet names, unprotected sex, handjob (brief), hair pulling, soft smut, you guys just straight up loving on each other, reader is feral for him, spoilers for ahsoka if you havenât seen the last 2 episodes, takes place during the filming of ahsoka (back in may 2022), this is just self-indulgent tbh
Word Count: 2.5k
Do not repost this anywhere, reblogs are fine âĄ
When you finally made your way back to the hotel room you and Hayden were staying at during the filming of Ahsoka, the last thing you were expecting to see was your husband propped up against the headboard, shirtless with grey sweats covering his lower half, and the script for tomorrow in his hands.Â
He looked absolutely divine, and you bit back a moan at the mere sight of him, the wine bottle you had bought from the store across the street nearly slipping from your grasp.
When he heard the door open but didnât hear your voice right after, Hayden looked up to see you standing in the doorway, an unreadable expression on your face as you stared at him. âHey, baby,â he murmured in a greeting, flipping the script back to the first page as you closed the door without breaking eye contact. âI was going to ask if you wanted to go over this scene with me, but you seemâŠpreoccupied. Whatâs on your mind?â
You set the bottle down on the table by the door, shrugging off your jacket as you stepped towards him. âI was just thinking,â you trailed off, biting your lip as your eyes stalked his body like he was prey.Â
Hayden sat up against the headboard, a teasing glint in his eye. âAbout what?â
Kneeling on the bed, you kick off your shoes before crawling over to him and straddling his lap. âAbout what I couldâve possibly done to deserve such a hot husband,â you answer, taking the package of papers from him and dropping them on the rug beside the bed.Â
His hands instinctively grab your waist, his own eyes raking up and down your face. âEighteen years together and youâre only asking that now?â He teased, his fingers lifting your shirt slightly so he could feel your skin on his.Â
âOh, no, Iâve been asking myself that since the day you messed up your practice run with Ewan and had to restart it from the very beginning,â you say back, watching as a knowing smile graced his lips.
âThat was only because you walked on set looking like something right off of the red carpet. Kinda like how you look right now,â he not so subtly gazed down at your body, his blue eyes beginning to darken the longer he had you on top of him.
You roll your eyes but blush at his forward words, resting your hands on his shoulders. Eighteen years together and fifteen since youâve been married, and he still was able to effortlessly make you feel like you were the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.Â
Your engagement ring and wedding band reflected off the single lamp he turned on, unknowingly setting the mood for when you got back. It was on the bedside table next to his phone, which had been turned completely off since he was away from set and planned to spend the rest of his night with you.Â
âArenât you a charmer?â You mumbled, feeling the cool metal of his own wedding band, that was identical to yours, pressed against the heated skin of your hip. âSeriously, do you even realize how good you look right now?âÂ
His hair was still somewhat styled in his clone wars look for the flashback scene, and the way it curled in certain spots had your whole body aching for him. If he hadnât taken off the makeup for the scar already, you probably wouldâve been wrapped around him by now. âI donât know,â he answered, kissing you back when you placed your mouth against his. âIâm not sure I can believe it after you told me that about ten times on set earlier today.â
You and he had actually met during the filming of Star Wars Episode II, but didnât start dating until Episode III had been fully completed. You went to the premiere together and that was your public debut as a couple, and you still remembered how loudly the fans cheered when he kissed you right there on the carpet.
You, too, would be in a few flashbacks towards the end of the series, in the form of your Force Ghost. Your character was killed in the last half of Episode III by Anakin himself, and you still remembered filming that scene like it was yesterday.Â
The tears you shed that day were one hundred percent real, as you were actually saying goodbye to the character that introduced you to your future husband. At that point you and Hayden had gone on several low-key dates, but didnât become official until a couple of months later. His acting was also more real than not in that scene as he had to pretend to kill you in a somewhat brutal way.
To revisit your character for the first time in over a decade was one of the best opportunities you had ever gotten, and you could only assume that this was how Hayden felt when he was asked to return as Anakin in Obi-Wan. While your scenes wouldnât be filmed for a few more weeks, Hayden still insisted you stay with him until the filming was wrapped up completely.Â
âIâm not apologizing for hyping up my husband,â you say against his lips. âIâm being so serious, Hayden, you look good.â
He grins up at you, pulling your body closer until your chest pressed right up against his, the subtle rock of your hips making you suppress a moan. âWell, thank you, sweet girl,â he nudges your nose with his. âI can always count on you to make me feel good about myself.â
âYou so can,â you agree, trailing your hands down his toned chest, smirking at the way his stomach muscle flexed at your light touch. âYouâre so attractive, I donât think you even realize it.â
Hayden hummed, slowly dragging his hands up your body and taking your shirt along the way. âI could say the same thing about you,â he said before asking, âYouâre awfully flirty tonight, whatâs got you all worked up?â
âYou,â came your simple reply, your fingers pulling at the loose string of his sweats. You lean down to place a chaste kiss to his lips, one that leaves him wanting more as you descend your mouth down to his shoulder, where you place a few open mouthed kisses to his skin. âYou, being so unbelievably sexy when youâre back in your element on set. The way you looked when you were practicing earlier? The way you look now? You donât know the things you do to me, Hayden.â
âI beg to differ,â he rasps out when you place another kiss to the base of his throat, his hands quickly fumbling to take off your shirt. It drops to the floor beside the script and you lift your head so you were looking right at him, your body level with his as you slowly rocked your hips against his. âY/n.â
You give him a teasing grin, sliding your hands down his sides before they land on the front of his sweats. âI know,âyou murmur and kiss him slowly, slipping your hand past the waistline and palming him. You hold back a smirk when you find him already hard for you, his bodyâs way of responding to yours every time you come onto him. âI just want to make you feel as good as you look.â
Hayden huffed out a breathy moan as you pulled him free from the sweatpants. âI want to make you feel good, too, baby,â he managed to say as you wrapped your hand around him, slowly stroking him.Â
You hum, âI already feel good from just looking at you,âÂ
A ghost of a moan escaped your lips when leaned forward to kiss your exposed shoulder in an attempt to quiet his own sounds.Â
Though this was a nice hotel, he still didnât want to risk the possibility of the walls being thin enough for him to receive noise complaints, though the thought had him growing harder in your hand.Â
âYou donât know how much you turn me on,â you nearly whisper, the pad of your thumb brushing over his tip and making him groan quietly against your skin.
âAfter twenty years of knowing you, I think I know exactly how much I turn you on,â he mumbled, bucking his hips up so you stroked him a bit harder. âItâs the same way with you, baby. You make me feel so good all the time.â
You whimper quietly when his hand slips inside the front of your leggings, biting down harshly on your bottom lip when he finds your clothed clit with no trouble at all. Being intimate with the same person for half your life came with that perk. âI want you so bad,â
Hayden lifted his head back up to connect your lips in a kiss, murmuring, âYou have me. Since that first day I saw you, Iâve been all yours,â when he pulls away to lift your hips in order to rid you of your leggings and the lace that covered your core. âI love you, Y/n Christensen.â
You moaned at that, moving back to straddle his hips again. Gripping the sides of his neck, you use the tips of your thumbs to tilt his head up in order to be able to give him a deep kiss. âI love you,â you whined as he guided your heat over him a few times, prepping both himself and you with your slickness. âMy hot, sexy husband.â
And then you were lifting your hips and sliding onto him until he was buried deep within you. Your hips met his as moans escaped both of you, with Hayden leaning back against the pillows and headboard to let you take full control.Â
While he always wanted you in this way, seeing him as Anakin again clearly did something to you, and he was more than okay with letting you take the lead like you needed to.Â
You close your eyes and grip his shoulders, moaning softly when you lift yourself up before dropping back down again. âIâm never getting over this,â you confess, though it wasnât new news. Even though you had been together for nearly two decades, you still hadnât grown tired of each other, further proving the fact that you were meant to be together. âFuck.â
Hayden groaned under his breath, his hands gripping your waist as you began to slowly ride him. âJust like that, sweet girl,â he praised softly, feeling the way you clenched around him at his words. âWe fit so well together, donât we? Make each other feel so good.â
You moan a bit louder, nodding quickly as your hands move to tangle in his hair. The fact that it was you who got to see him like this, and it was you who got to mess up his Anakin-styled hair had you going a bit feral.
âSo good,â you agree, dropping yourself down on him with a bit more force, really setting a pace that would ensure you both wouldnât last too long. He is forty one and you were pushing thirty nine, you couldnât really expect to be as durable in the bedroom after a long day of filming.Â
Still, when he hadnât spent a whole day on set, Hayden could go for longer, simply because he aged unbelievably well and kept his body in great shape.Â
He also wasnât expecting you to want to jump his bones as soon as you got back from your wine run after he changed into more comfortable clothing, planning on going over a few of his scenes with you before bed.Â
That still didnât stop him from letting you completely drain any and all energy he had left from the day as you grind your hips against his. Small, needy whines left your pretty lips as you moved further down on him, driving him even deeper into your willing and wanting walls.Â
âYouâre so beautiful,â he couldnât help but say, making your pace falter slightly as you flushed at his words. âMy girl. The prettiest woman in the world.â He complimented as his hands slid up your back and expertly unclasped your bra.Â
He pulled it from your body and replaced it with his hands, his thumbs and index fingers pinching and pulling at your nipples. You whimper at the feeling of his smooth fingers against your sensitive buds, tugging harshly at his strands. âHayden,â you murmur, guiding him into you quicker with swift grinds of your hips. âOh, fuck.â
âYeah, baby,â he said under his breath, trailing one hand down to circle your throbbing clit with his thumb. His other hand moved to tightly grip your hip again as you picked up the pace, beginning to feel that tight sensation forming in your abdomen. âYou feel so good. So good for me, baby, the best thing thatâs ever happened to me.â
You cry out, squeezing your eyes shut as you pulse around him, your thighs burning with exertion and forcing you to stop for a brief second before Hayden grabs your other hip and begins thrusting up into you. âYes,â you gasp out, tangling your hands tighter in his hair as he lifts himself up from against the pillows to really allow him to drive himself impossibly deeper inside you. âOh, fuck, yes, donât stop, Hayden, please.â
How could he deny you your wish? In all honesty, he wouldnât be able to bring himself to stop, anyway, as you were clenching so tightly around him and sucking him in as deep as he could go, he almost blacked out for a second from how blinding the feeling was.Â
âCome for me, sweet girl,â he requested quietly in your ear, his deep and raspy voice making you clench tighter around him as your walls pulsed in time with his quick thrusts. âI want you to, want to feel it.â
Your mouth opened in a faint cry and your stomach swelled as you wrapped your arms tightly around him. As your whole body tensed up in his arms, Hayden felt your walls spasm slightly before he also felt the flood of your release coat him. It gave him the perfect amount of friction for him to fall not too far behind.Â
His jaw locked slightly, his hands wrapping around your middle and pulling you closer to him as he, too, came. Deep within you, he pushed his seed further with a few extra thrusts before he was forced to stop due to the sensitivity of it all.Â
With his last remaining energy, he lifted you up and set you down on the bed next to him. He hovered over you a second later, wrapping your legs around his waist as he nuzzled his head in between the space of your neck and shoulder. âI love you so much,â he whispered in between peppered kisses to your sweaty skin. âThank you for always making me feel like the most important person, everyday.â
You ran your fingers through his damp and messy hair, playing with the curls as a smile formed on your lips. âYou are the most important person,â you reminded him, kissing him quickly before wrapping your arms around him and pulling him further down onto you. âAnd I love you, too.â

In the AOTC script, the scene where PadmĂ© falls out of the flying ship, and Anakin going frantic almost ready to jump out and grab her himself, and yelling at the pilot to lower the ship, is slightly different and I think both versions fits Anakinâs character well!
Much like the movie, the original script shows that PadmĂ© falls out of the ship, Anakin goes ballistic, OWK tries to calm him down, etc. But whatâs different is that in the script itâs shown that PadmĂ© gets up from the sand and indicates towards the ship to keep trailing Dooku. Ofc with OWK already trying to convince Anakin to not let his personal feelings come in the way, and Anakin not giving an eff, the last thing he resorts too which he knows will successfully bring peace to his apprentice is to point out to him that PadmĂ© has already been rescued by a Clone Trooper and she herself is telling them to go after the enemy instead.
Vs.
In the film version, OWK tries his best to make Anakin see his side of things, whether it be that he needs him to take on Dooku, or that itâs his duty as a Jedi, etc. but the thing that convinced Anakin to stay rooted in place is the mention of PadmĂ©âs approval for Anakin. (What would she do if she were in your position? - She would do her duty.)
The film version prioritized showing the audience the value Anakin puts in PadmĂ©âs opinion, and opinion of him as well, and thatâs what gets him to react more ârationallyâ (by ânormal-peopleâ standards, I think itâs completely valid to go ballistic if your wife fell out a flying ship, lmao.) Anakin cares a lot about not seeming like a failure in PadmĂ©âs eyes, because he also looks up to her with the utmost respect and acknowledges her as a huge inspiration, not just to himself, but to many.

Safe at Last
The person whose name is written in this note shall die.
Fox reads the sentence a few times over. When he encountered the note it had landed on his head while on patrol. Someone must have thrown it out a window instead of disposing it properly. He had intended on dumping it in the closet garbage bin when the cover had caught his attention.
Death Note.
Written in a strange script, it wasnât a novel just a simple blank notebook. Itâd be a waste to dispose of something he could use so he retuned to base where he could inspect it further. That was when he found the rules written on the front page.
This note will not take effect unless the writer has the person's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.
Oh how thoughtful to think of those who share a name. He canât help but roll his eyes and continue to read.
If the cause of death is written within the next 40 seconds of writing the person's name, it will happen.
That fast huh? Quick and efficient.
Was this a joke of some kind? A prank some kids made and were caught with?
If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack.
Fox shook his head and reached for a pen and closed his eyes.
The Chancellorâs warm smiling face fills his head. His voice calling out to him. It makes him sick.
Sheev Palpatine
If anyoneâs name belonged in a book of death it would be his. Leaning back he watched the digital clock in the far corner of his office. The second go by and then a minute.
Nothing.
Well, he wasnât sure what he expected. Tossing the pen aside he grabbed the book to put it away when his comm started to go off. He isnât able to get a word in when Thireâs voice breaks the silence.
âFox, the chancellorâs just collapsed in his office.â
___
The Chancellor is dead.
Heart attack. Thats the report that comes back. No foul play is suspected. He was an older man after all, he worked so very hard. Never a momentâs rest, those are the words whispered.
No poison nor drug is found in his system. Just an elderly man who passed from a heart attack.
The people weep, Coruscant enters a period of mourning and the guard is now busy preparing security for the funeral.
Fox is unable to focus on anything. He is locked in his office with the note in his hands simply staring down at it.
He killed him.
He killed the chancellor.
Him with just the stroke of his pen he ended that monsterâs miserable life.
Or was it coincidence?
Could it be the old bastardâs heart had actually given out? But the timing it was too perfect.
ShouldâŠshould he try again? Another name?
___
âDid you hear?â
âYes, how awfulâŠâ
âApparently he just slipped and fellâŠâ
âIn his shower of all places!â
Senator Gorlingâs tragic and accidental death. A simple slip in the shower, life is so fragile and delicate.
What a shame.
Senator Halor Gorling dies getting out of the shower. He slips on the wet floor and snaps his neck in the process.
Exactly as written.
Fox is thankful for his helmet to hide the grin on his face a sick kind of smile that would have anyone question his sanity.
Senator Gorling have sent good honest men to their deaths for nothing. For a vendetta against clones. For a clone daring to fall in love with his precious natborn daughter.
An eye for an eye as they say.
He doesnât say much. Doesnât contribute to the gossip among his own ranks. Itâs such a small death as compared to the chancellorâs.
It was all he needed to truly confirm that the Death Note worked. That in his hands is an untraceable weapon of Mass Destruction. Something no man should possess yet here it was in his hands.
His capable handsâŠ
With thisâŠhe could protect the Guard and not just them but all clones.
He can keep them all safe at last.
___
Been watching a lot of Death Note again so of course I wondered...what would happen if Fox had stumbled across it himself?

The stream has started, and the scene changes over to Donnie, model dressed in a purple to black ombre suit, black shoes, and his bandana with goggles, standing on a stage like he was about to give a presentation.
"Greetings Balemates! I'm sure many of you saw our post about an announcement. Well don't worry it's not very big. We're just releasing access to a game that many in the Patreon discord has known about since the private game servers were launched." Donnie grabs a tablet to que up the reveal, "Now those on the servers know that it's not what you're playing, but I don't think the legal team wants to try fighting the company that owns the original that's on the server. Clears Throat. Well on to the announcement."
On a screen next to them is art of a bunch of cartoony turtles, with different accessories, infront of three different environments, a small city, a sewer/subway, and a pizzeria. There's a mock up of a game name, there is clearly a sign that reads 'Club Turtle' underneath a taped on piece of paper that says 'Placeholder: Turtle/Reptile/Amphibian City'.
"So many of you saw me working on the mock up on stream not to long ago. And Yes, it is a blatant Club Penguin clone, with some differences of course. It initially was just going to be Turtles, but as you can see, we're thinking of adding more varieties of possible avatars." Donnie switches over to a video.
The video is just basic gameplay of a Pink Dressed Turtle goes into a shop and buys a new outfit, then the same turtle in its new outfit goes to play a mini that was a simple ball toss. The video goes on to show the turtle buying a 'house', they chose a Train Car, and do some basic customization. Then the video follows the turtle to a small crowd of other Turtles who are doing different emotes, before a spray paint can goes across the screen to cover a 'Club Turtle' sign with Turtle City(W.I.P.).
"Well as you can see, it's not going to be a highly, how do I word this? Original? Super high quality?" Donnie stops to mutter about his wording, and then goes on a slight under his breath tangent about not writing a full script and only going off bullet points. "Anywho! The game is basically a free to play game, but really the only thing that paying and money with do you is the 'VIP' shop features, and customizations. Heck you're not buying any in game currency, the shops with just have an extended inventory of VIP items."
Donnie brings up an example, showing how with a VIP pass there's like 10 extra items on the daily inventory. Because this implies a rotating inventory of different items, there was even a tab marked 'seasonal items' on the shop menu.
There are mixed reactions to this announcement, if only because of some confusion on how this will work. While others are questioning if the VIP pass is like a one time thing, or subscription type thing.
"I see some questions, and to answer the one about the VIP, the price hasn't been figured, but it will be a monthly thing. It's inclusion is mostly because some people can't grasp a free to play game with no adds, or some weird way to work in making people pay." Donnie looks to their side, and after a second glares at something, and gives a gesture that reads 'well what should I say?!', "Sorry, one of my siblings was commenting on how I would make a FTP game, and not find a way to charge the players lots of money. Well the answer is. We needed a legit semi waste of money to offset something weird, finance wise. Yeah it makes no sense, but it's nothing illegal, just... the finance people are weird. They sometimes make no sense, even when I can understand them."
After another short rant Donnie remembers that they're still live, on stream, to multiple people who are now going to think their possibly doing something illegal.
"Clears Throat. Once again, this may not be the most original idea, but it's the best way to give our audience a Club Penguin like experience. We don't have all the expansions figured just yet, and it won't be live until we finish getting the servers set up, and properly secured." Donnie switches the screen to show a web page with the w.i.p. logo and a coming soon with multiple robot turtles moving wires, circuit boards, and boxes around the page. "This page is live, but there is no connection to the game yet. I hope you all will enjoy this, and give us feedback on what you think."
Donnies model suddenly changed clothes to his hoodie, tech pants, and boots. They let out a breath, and look a bit more relaxed. The background changes to the studio with beanbags, pillows, and blankets.
"Now that that announcement is out of the way! Alright everyone get in here, we're playing that sidescroller beat-em-up I found with the turtles!"
Raph, Leo, and Mikey quickly claim their seats, and controllers eager to start the game.

I had multiple Club Penguin videos recommended to me by the algorithm, and I thought about Donnie making his own version because of how popular it was. Yeah one of the secret patreon game servers is Club Penguin.
And the weird finance thing is just some odd logic that was made up, because I don't think Donnie would actually trust investors, but there is technically a finance person on staff.

The Son: Chapter 21
Pairing: Poe Dameron x Male!Reader (The Son)
Summary: Youâve finally broken free of the forces controlling you at a great cost, though the cost of doing so was even greater than you thought. Now, you fight for the antithesis of what you had been representing, and have to grapple with finding your own place in the galaxy while grappling with the person trying to find their way into your heart. Will The Son choose the light? Or the dark? Whatever the answer may be, may the force be with us.
A/N: Sorry this chapter took so long to get to you guys! A lot goes on so I hope that makes up for lost time. As always, I hope you enjoy!
Warnings: A certain scene from the clone wars series is mentioned here in italics, yes it is straight from the script I did not add anything myself but it does mention drugging.

âHe knows weâre here? How?â Poe asked.
It took all of a second of looking at her to understand they most likely connected once more. Grabbing Poeâs hand and beginning to move, âThe how doesnât matter, we need to get out of here, now.â
You mentally beat yourself up slightly as you allowed yourself to lose focus and not understand that Kylo had connected with Rey again but knew it wasnât the time. The group began to pick up the pace and run as fast as you could through the crowd, aiming towards where you had landed the ship.
As your team was running, âFreeze! Hold it right there.â
A stormtrooper with his gun held up towards you spoke, âIâve located the Resistance fugitives. All units, report-â
He was suddenly cut short with an arrow through his eye, your group flinching as the arrow flew past.Â
Turning to look behind, there was a humanoid figure wearing a helmet, a crossbow in his hands, âFollow me.â
Your group shared a small look before begrudgingly following the person who turned and began walking. There was a pill shaped land trawler with decorations hung up on all sides, the person making towards an opening in the side.
âHurry,â they stepped up to another door inside that led to the front where the driver was, âLeia sent me a transmission.â They slid open an eyehole and spoke a foreign language temporarily with a creature beyond the door, seemingly operating the vehicle.
âHowâd you find us?â Finn asked, regaining his breath.
They took off their helmet and revealed themselves to be⊠Lando Calrissian! You only recognized him through Leiaâs memories but knew he was someone that you could trust.
âWookies stand out in a crowd,â he smirked.
Chewbacca immediately let out a few noises and pushed forward to wrap him in a hug, reuniting with an old friend.
Lando laughed, âItâs good to see you too buddy!â
âThis is General Lando Calrissian,â 3PO chimed in.
âWe know who he is, 3PO,â Rey responded, turning toward the golden droid with a knowing look.
âIt is an honor, General,â Finn said with admiration.
âGeneral Calrissian, weâre looking for Exegol,â Poe got to business as you didnât have much time before the First Order most likely swarmed the place.
He took a look at each of you before replying, âOf course you are.â He raised his arm to show his wrist, clicking a button on the device there to display a hologram of the Sith wayfinder, âOnly two were made.â
âA Sith wayfinder,â Rey exclaimed. âLuke Skywalker came here to find one.â
He chuckled, âI know. I was with him. Luke and I were tailing an old Jedi hunter.â He clicked a button once more and displayed a pale looking fish-like man, âOchi of Bestoon. He was carrying a clue that could lead to a wayfinder. We followed his ship halfway across the galaxy here. When we got to his ship, it was abandoned. No clue. No wayfinder.â
Reyâs eyebrow dropped in thought, âIs Ochiâs ship still here?â
âItâs out in the desert, where he left it.â
âWe need to get to that ship, search it again,â Rey spoke with vigor.
Her trepidation worried you slightly but you understood her anxiety all the same.
After she had spoken, the sounds of transports began to fill your ears through the crowd, leading you and Calrissian to peek out the window of the machine you were in. To your annoyance, there were multiple TIEâs and troop transports flying overhead.
âI got a bad feeling about this,â Lando admitted. Turning to your team once more, âOchiâs ship is out past Lurch Canyon, go.â
âThank you, General,â you spoke, offering him a grateful smile as your team began to move out.
âYou too, Chewie,â Lando responded to Chewbaccaâs roar for him to keep safe.
âLeia needs pilots, General,â Rey turned at the door to face Lando one last time.
âMy flying days are long gone. But do me a favor, give Leia my love,â he smiled.
âYou should give it to her yourself. Thank you,â Rey finalized before she jumped out of the vehicle, you following after.
Your group began running the moment your feet hit the ground, curving around a stone structure for cover Poe shouted, âThere! Those speeders.â
There were two speeders parked just on the outside of the crowd that your group veered over towards. When you arrived, Poe wasted no time getting on his back and underneath the speeder.
âWe donât have the ignition keys, we need to keep moving,â you commented, looking around to scout.
You barely got the words out before the speeder suddenly revved up and turned on, Poe popping out from under it and opening a side panel on the other one to snip some wires.
âHow do you know how to do that?â Finn asked, an expectant look on his face.
You turned to face the speeder and approached as well, âYeah, Poe, how do you know how to do that?â
Hotwiring was a skill Poe never told you he had and as far as you knew, was a skill he wouldnât have just picked up in the Resistance.
âNo need to worry, I made it!â C3PO finally approached as his frame didnât allow him to have much mobility.
A group of the natives began shouting and moving in your direction and you realized you were most likely stealing their speeders.Â
âWe gotta go,â Poe cut both of your questions short and moved to get on the speeder.
With a sigh, you got on the speeder as well, making sure to remember to ask Poe about it later. You were on one of the speeders with Rey, Chewie, and BB-8 while Poe and Finn took up the other with 3PO. You rushed off into the desert, aiming towards Ochiâs ship that wasnât quite in sight yet. To your dismay, within moments, lasers began flying past you and you turned to see troopers on the chase. Without wasting any time, Rey turned and began firing back with her pistol as Chewie began to shoot as well. Igniting your sabers, you focused on defense as throwing one of them at this speed and with such rough terrain would prove tremendously difficult. There were two speeders trailing you with two troopers on each one, soon to be only a singular trooper as the speeders suddenly tipped forward and launched the troopers on the back. They began flying as the jetpacks on their backs activated and you were soon being attacked on two fronts.Â
âOh! They fly now!â 3PO shouted.
âThey fly now?â Finn also shouted, adding to the surprise.
âThey fly now,â Poe affirmed, turning back to focus on driving.
Rey began evasive maneuvers as you now had to dodge from two different directions in a rather open area, your footing nearly coming loose as you attempted to deflect the laser bolts.Â
âWe canât keep this up forever!â you yelled over the sounds of the chase.
As if the trooper could hear you and wanted to hammer the point home, one of the flying ones sent out missiles from his gun, flying overhead and landing just in front of your speeder to try and avoid your sabers and destroy your transport. Luckily for your group, while dodging you came across tall mountain structures that Finn and Poe were able to funnel through. Unfortunately, your speeder was separated from Poeâs but at the least they werenât in open coverage any longer.Â
Still trying to avoid the missiles from above and the blasts from the speeder behind you, BB-8 began chirping loudly, something about a gas canister.
âNot now, BB-8!â Rey managed to respond over her steering.
Managing a look from the corner of your eye as you deflected, BB-8 began to poke at the gas canister that was sitting in the back of the speeder. After a few attempts at prodding at it, it suddenly ignited and flew into the air, exploding into a yellow powder bomb that acted as a smokescreen. It wasnât long before the trooper followed you out of the smoke but with his sight impeded so heavily, he ended up driving straight into a small rock that acted as a ramp, sending him up into the air.
With a yell, Rey hit the handbrake on the speeder and drifted you to the side, using her other arm to aim at the speeder that was now directly above you and fire underneath it at its engine. After a few laser bolts, the speeder exploded, a few parts being flung in your direction that you blocked with the force after throwing your arms up in defense.Â
âNever underestimate a droid!â Rey said with a smile as she resumed steering.
The other transport was still presumably following Poeâs speeder as you had no sight of it, though now both of the flying troopers were on your tail. Thankfully, Chewie managed to get a shot off on one of them, his jetpack malfunctioning and sending him slamming against the ground. Now, a ship was finally visible, resting just atop a small stone structure in the middle of an open desert, other mid-sized mountain ranges scattered along the horizon.Â
âOchiâs ship! Iâve seen that ship before,â Rey called out.
âRey! You get all of them?â Finn called out, making you look to your left to see them now riding alongside you.
âThereâs still one-â you were in the middle of replying before the trooper once again sent missiles from his weapon.
Both missiles hit their targets as your group got launched by the explosion, both speeders destroyed and landing on a strange black colored pool of what seemed like rocks. After landing, you tried to get back up but found it to be slightly difficult as you heard the trooper flying overhead. He was about to make another pass but your group recovered, managing to aim and fire back even on your backs and knees. A few bolts whirred past you which you avoided before the collective blasting of your friends eventually hit the trooper. His jetpack also malfunctioned and sent him into a flurry, ending up with him crashing into a mountainside with a small explosion following. The shockwave made you among the others flinch backwards slightly and thatâs when you felt yourself begin to sink.
âWhat the hell is this?â Poe scurried as he began to sink as well.Â
âSinking fields! Try to grab something!â Rey explained.
There were parts of the speeders scattered around but unfortunately for you, you had already placed your weight on your hands to pull yourself out before Rey explained where you were. Your hands were immobilized as the more you tried to pull them out, the more the rest of your body sank.Â
âPoe!â you yelled, true fear striking you as his body was soon to be consumed before your eyes.
âY/N-â his words were cut short as his head sank underneath.
Things were moving much too quickly and before you even had a chance to focus and use the force, you were also soon taken by the sinking sands.Â
âBB-8!â you heard faintly over the muffled effect of the sand as you sank.
Father... sister... Iâm sor-
Your final death woes were cut short as you heard cracking underneath you and before you knew it, you had a searing pain in your backside.Â
âOw,â you moaned, opening your eyes to see a small cave before you.
You had landed straight on your behind and before long you saw BB-8âs head pop out from another crack that had formed, his small metallic body slamming against the floor.
Just behind where he landed, you also noticed Poe strewn out across the ground, gaining his bearings as well, âY/N?â
You got up and rushed to his side, helping him get up and bringing him into a hug immediately, âMaker, I thought I watched you die in front of me.â
You could feel his body sag with a sigh as he held you in return, âMe too, Iâm glad youâre safe.â
Separating from each other, the both of you looked around, âRey! Finn!â
âYou didnât say my name, sirs but I am alright,â C3PO made himself known behind you as he walked forward.
You seemed to be in a small cave system with many cavities carved throughout like small roads. You wondered if it was a natural cave or... something worse.
Crackling from above came from a few feet ahead of you and Poe rushed forward to anticipate another one of your companions falling through. Eventually, they broke through and Rey stumbled down into Poeâs arms, Poe helping her softly to the ground as she gained her bearings.
âYou alright?â Poe asked.
âYeah, whereâs Finn?â she asked as well.
âWhereâs Chewie?â you asked, standing next to them.
As you spoke, a loud crack came from behind you and Chewieâs large figure dropped down as well.
âThat answers that,â you said simply.
âIâm good,â Finn made himself known, walking through one of the cavities carved out into the small clearing where you were congregated.
âAh. Master Finn,â C3PO greeted him.
âWhat is this place?â Poe questioned.
âThis isnât the afterlife, is it? Are droids allowed here?â 3PO pondered.
Finn came up and put a hand on Rey and Finnâs shoulders, looking towards you, âI thought we were goners.â
âWe might still be,â 3PO commented in the back.
âWhich way out?â Finn continued.
Rey took her lightsaber out and ignited it for light, Poe glancing at it from the corner of his eye before he begrudgingly turned on his flashlight, producing much... less light than Rey.
You turned from the group and began to head down one of the passageways, âLetâs go.â
Rey turned first to follow, âWe have to hurry.â Rey addressed Finn as she walked, âSo what was it?â
âWhat?â
âWhat you were gonna tell me,â she responded.
You continued walking and took notice of the strange shape the walls had. They were smooth yet had small continuous ripples throughout. It reminded you of when a rock fell into a pond and the waves emanated outwards.Â
âWhen?â Finn asked.
âWhen you were sinking in the sand, you said, âI never told you...ââ Rey tried to spark his memory.
âIâll tell you later,â you heard him reply.
âYou mean when Poe and Y/Nâs not here?â Poe sassily approached them.
âYeah, mhmm,â Finn affirmed.
âWeâre gonna die in sand burrows and weâre all keeping secrets?â Poe pressed as he walked past them and towards you.
Deciding the light from behind you wasnât enough after needing to strain your eyes enough, you ignited your white saber as well for lighting, âIs this really the time?â
âIâll tell you as soon as you tell us about all that shifty stuff you do,â Finn pressed back.
âActually, this might be exactly the time,â you admitted, still walking forward but wanting to hear Poeâs response.
The small passageway you were walking through once again opened up into a smaller room with a few other passageways leading in different directions when Poe spoke, âI do not wanna know what made these tunnels.â
His avoidance of explanation twice now began to gnaw at the back of your mind. Why is Poe intentionally keeping things from me? Is there a past he doesnât want me to know about? Even after I told him everything about mine...Â
âJudging by the circumference of the tunnel walls,â 3PO began to explain.
âI said I do not wanna know. Not,â Poe turned back to look at the droid and drive the point forward.
Your group trekked for a short while longer, the order of which led changing with 3PO somehow in the front. Poe was shortly behind him with BB-8 in front of him, his flashlight hitting a corner and illuminating something different than the sand walls.Â
âWoah, what is that?â Poe directed toward 3PO, still not close enough to make it out while the golden droid was standing in front of it.
Finn was just behind Poe and after coming a bit closer, âIs that a speeder?â
âAn old one,â Rey came up from the back of the group.
âPerhaps we will find the driver,â 3PO pondered.
BB-8 booped and beeped and Poe responded, âYep, BB-8, I think dead too.â
You really wondered if he didnât know how to speak droid or not because that was exactly what the small ball had said.
C3PO was inspecting the front of the speeder when he spoke, âOh my. A hex charm.â
âA what?â Poe turned back from inspecting a tunnel.
âA common emblem of Sith loyalists,â he explained.
You came closer as well to inspect it and your brows came to knit together, âWhy is it that I donât recognize this?â
âSith,â Rey muttered.
âThis was Ochiâs?â Finn surmised.
âLuke sensed it, Ochi never left this place,â Rey walked around the vehicle.
âWhy canât I...â you muttered to yourself.Â
Your fingers grazed over the emblem, holding your lightsaber as close as you could to ensure you could capture it in the light. Yet... nothing came to you. How was it that a Sith emblem was lost to you? You feared you werenât quite as attuned to your dark nature as you once thought you were, and knew it meant nothing but bad news.
âAnd he ended up down here,â Finn continued off of Rey.
âHe was headed for his ship,â Poe began to understand. âSame thing happened to us, happened to him.â
âSo how did Ochi get out?â Finn wondered.
You noticed them begin to move down one of the passages and shook off your thoughts, moving to follow them as well.
âHe didnât,â Rey finished, stopping in her tracks.
The rest of you caught up and noticed a skeleton in the room in front of you.
âNo he didnât,â Finn put his hands on his hips.
âBones, I donât like bones,â Poe strained.
âBones? Never a good sign,â C3PO managed to sound as dreaded as possible which didn't help at all.
BB-8 chirped and Rey, taking off her staff, said, âYeah, I see it.â
She walked forward towards the corner that BB-8 rolled towards and reached for something that BB-8 blew some sand off of. As she removed it, your eyes landed on a unique designed dagger.
As Rey held it, she muttered, âHorrible things... have happened with this.â
You felt out for the dagger and felt the same pain and suffering Rey had, though not as concentrated as she did whilst holding it.
âThereâs writing on it,â Poe noticed.
âPerhaps I can translate,â 3PO offered.
The golden droid held it up to his eyes after Rey handed it to him, âOh! The location of the wayfinder has been inscribed upon this dagger. Itâs the clue that Master Luke was looking for.
âAnd?â
âWhereâs the wayfinder?â Poe finished Finnâs question.
âI am afraid I cannot tell you,â 3PO lowered his arm and turned back towards you all.
âWhat?â you said, two seconds from grabbing the dagger and doing it yourself.
â20.3 fazillion languages, you canât read that?â Poe accused.
âOh, I have read it sir. I know exactly where the wayfinder is,â 3PO responded pridefully. âUnfortunately, it is written in the runic language of the Sith.â
âSo what?â Rey fired.
âMy programming forbids me from translating it,â he bit back.
âSo, youâre telling us the one time we need you to talk, you canât?â Poe looked at the droid with disappointment.
âIrony, sir,â 3PO responded, looking between the group before he walked over to the side.
âGive it here, Iâll do it, maker,â you muttered.Â
âI am mechanically incapable of translating from Sith,â the droid appeased.
As he spoke, a small rumbling began to penetrate the ground and a large figure began to rise behind him.Â
âI believe the rule was passed by the Senate of the Old Republic,â his explanation continued. Finn and Poe raised their guns while you and Rey raised your sabers in his direction which made him turn and scream as the large creature behind him opened its large mouth and screeched, âSerpent! Serpent! Serpent!âÂ
He rushed behind your group as you stood your ground and looked upon the large worm-like creature. It had six eyes, two large ones on each side of its face with two smaller ones joining them. It only had about fourteen teeth but they were large and menacing. While it snarled at you a few times, it hadnât made a move to attack you at all, prompting you and Rey to put down Finn and Poeâs guns. You put a hand on Reyâs shoulder and she looked over to you, receiving a nod. You wanted her to try to connect with the creature, and you knew that she could do it. If it was truly violent, it would have already attacked your group several times over by then. She handed her saber to the side as she made eye contact with the serpent, Finn taking it out of her hands.Â
âRey,â Finn whispered.
The light from their flashlights and your sabers managed to pick up more than just the head of the creature. Its entire body was wrapped around the room in front of you, its long shafted body coiling around. Rey approached it and it snarled but still ultimately did nothing, allowing her to step over its body.
âY/N,â Poe stressed, aiming his gun at the creature again.
âDonât,â you whispered.
âShh,â Finn shushed the group.
Rey was right in the middle of it now, the serpent's body circled around her multiple times with its head right above her and hissing.
âIâm gonna blast it,â Poe stated.
âDonât blast it,â you and Finn said simultaneously.
Rey lowered herself to the ground and reached a soft and steady hand towards its body. The moment her hand came to touch its skin, it roared which made her stop in her tracks. She didnât remove her hand however and it still did not attack her.
She closed her eyes and began to focus and thatâs when you noticed. The serpent was hurt, scratched in some manner and was bleeding. Focusing her force energy, she managed to actually transfer some of it from her body into the serpent, effectively healing the damage the creature had taken. Poe slowly lowered his gun as he took notice of her actions as well. Before long, the bleeding was completely gone and the wound looked as if it were never there. The serpent blinked slowly and groaned in a contented tone before turning its head and beginning to slide through a separate tunnel. Rey removed her hand as if it were shocked statically and held her wrist while rubbing it slightly. Eventually, its entire body was gone and with it, a passageway crumbling open with light pouring inward.Â
BB-8 was the first to roll forward and beeped at Rey, âI just transferred a bit of life. Force energy from me to him. You would have done the same.â
The last part she responded to the droid after he beeped back at her questionably.Â
You came up to her while she was still in her kneeled position and helped her up with a hand on her shoulder, âWhen did you learn to do that?â
âIâm... not sure. I just, felt it,â she tried to explain.
You gave her a slight smile, wondering just how powerful she might be. Force heal was not an easy force technique, and it certainly wasnât one anyone could do on a whim. Chewie picked up the dagger from where 3PO dropped it and brought it up to you, offering it carefully. You took the knife from his hands and looked over it, seeing the inscriptions along the blade. Though when you tried to read it, you came up blank.
â3PO are you sure this is Sith?â you questioned, turning it over in your hands.
âOf course, Master Y/N! That is the runic language of the Sith,â the robot replied.
âThen why canât I read it?â you asked aloud, fervently focusing on it yet still not understanding the symbols.
âWait, I thought you knew Sith?â Poe came up to you, shining his flashlight on the blade as well.
âI knew it better than I knew common, yet,â you sighed, âI canât seem to understand a single symbol.â
First you werenât able to recognize the Sith loyalist emblem, and now you had lost your ability to understand Sith. These developments were turning for the worst as you wondered what else you were suddenly incapable of. It didnât make any sense. You knew Sith because of your former position but even then, you used the language for thousands of years. Even if somehow that power was lost to you, the language would have had to stick anyway right? Your thoughts were brought back to how your wayfinding ability was muddled and your future visions were no longer coming to you. If Snoke wasnât the one blocking me, perhaps itâs been Palpatine all this time. Who knows what kind of power he has amassed over centuries.
âThatâs weird, right?â Finn offered, standing at the now open passageway with light.
You continued to look at the dagger as if you would suddenly begin to recognize the language to no avail when Poe placed a hand on your shoulder, âWe need to get out of here, sweetheart. Weâll figure this out later, together.â
You finally ripped your eyes from the blade and handed it back to Chewie who placed it in his bag, âYeah, letâs go.â
Your group exited the underground to the surface to see Ochiâs ship not far from your position. This time as you walked, you made sure to avoid any and all of the small pools of sinking sands. Luckily they were colored a darker gray so it was easy to discern it from the normal sand.Â
As your group got closer and began to scale the rock structure the ship was on, C3PO spoke up, âWe cannot possibly fly in that old wreck.â
âWe gotta keep moving. Find someone who can translate that dagger, like a helpful droid,â Poe pressed.
âOur ship is most definitely impounded or completely surrounded so this is our only way off this planet,â you added.
Hurt panged through you momentarily at your own incapability to read the language inscribed on the dagger. Your already precarious situation wouldnât have been much more complicated if you could have just read what was written.
âYeah theyâll throw us in the Pits of Griq,â Finn threatened.
âYeah,â Poe chuckled. âAnd use you as a target droid.â
âYou both make, excellent points. At times,â the golden droid admitted.
Finn was helping Poe get a leg up to keep climbing the rock when Rey turned off and walked towards the edge. You noticed it and slowly edged towards her, noticing her focusing on something in the distance.
Finn came up behind you, âWhat is it?â
Rey turned and handed her staff to Finn, âIâll be right behind you.â She gave him her bag as well, âItâs ok.â
âPoe,â you called up to him a bit higher, telling him more with your eyes.
He looked back down with his hands on his hips and sighed, âYeah, weâll get the ship ready.â
With a nod, you clapped Finnâs shoulder and set back down the rock with Rey. You walked just a step behind her as the two of you began to walk slowly into the open desert. You werenât quite far from the rock, but had put enough distance to hear the ships engines begin to fire up behind you. You walked with Rey a bit further then she came to a stop. You could feel him by now too, hear the roar of his ship's engine, it was Ren.
âAre you ready? I wonât be helping until I absolutely have to,â you attempted to strengthen her.
She turned to you and nodded once sharply before turning back towards the direction Kylo was flying towards you. You put the force energy into your hands and feet and pushed off as you ran toward the mountainside, launching yourself up sizeable high before sticking your lightsaber into the side of the cliff and hanging. For now, you would overlook their battle. It was entirely possible the nexus event was upon you here and now, but you couldnât risk it if it wasnât. Your mission was far greater than the risk of losing this current war, it was missing out on yet another millennium before being able to awaken, not the intention of your father and sister.Â
Kylo leveled his TIE fighter at the same height as Rey, flying just along the surface of the sand. She ignited her saber in response and turned around! Facing the other direction, she had her back turned towards him and it seemed to enrage him further. His TIE picked up speed and was now beaming towards her quickly, and just as he was beginning to get closer, she began to run.Â

She leaped just as Renâs ship was about to run her through, with a yell, twisting her body and thrusting her saber through one of the wings, severing it from the ship. She landed back on the ground as Kyloâs ship began to wobble, unsteady with only one side pushing forward. The other wing separated and broke off, leaving only the center cockpit to remain as it crashed and scraped against the ground for hundreds of feet. As soon as it came to a crashing halt, the hull suddenly exploded!
âRey! Rey!â Finn came shouting towards Rey.
You deactivated your blade and fell back down the mountainside, using the force to push with your hands and soften your fall.Â
âThey got Chewie! They got him!â he yelled just as a First Order transport ship took off behind him.
As you were running towards them, Rey reached out with the force and held the transport in place. Its engines were scrambling to take off yet she held it just the same and attempted to drag it back in. As you arrived finally, the three of you took notice of a Kylo Ren walking towards you from the direction his ship had just exploded in, completely unscathed. He began to reach out with the force as well and pull the ship out of Reyâs control. Deciding enough was enough, you reached your arm up to help Rey when you were struck concussed by a foreign object to your head.
âY/N!â Finn yelled.
Fear struck through Rey as well, muddling the strength in her pull.
Before you knew it, you were on the ground with a stinging pain in the side of your head. Finn had come up to you and yanked whatever was there out and you could finally pull a breath into your lungs-
âLeaving so soon?â you mused, holding Ahsoka in a headlock in the back of their ship. You turned her back around to face you as you choked her, âNot without this you wonât.â
The drop hatch opened in front of you and Anakin stared in horror as you dropped her through it and dived through yourself, âAhsoka!â
You metamorphosed into your large bat form and held her by your legs bringing her back to your citadel.
...
âYou are alone now,â you walked slowly around a drugged Ahsoka in your small goblin form. âIf you are to survive, you must forget your master.â
You pulled her by the hand as she brought her free one up to her head, âI donât think I-â
Grabbing her further by the arm, you bit her forearm, injecting a dark poison.Â
âY/N! Y/N!â you were suddenly pulled back into reality on Ochiâs ship.
You grunted as a painful pulse went through your head, âWhat did they do to me?â
The ship was rocking slightly and you could just barely hear over the ringing in your ears the sounds of lasers firing.Â
âY/N! Baby, you better be ok, imma get us out of here,â Poe yelled over his shoulder while piloting the ship.
Finn was in front of you, âThey hit you with some kind of electric bullet. I couldnât tell what it was since we were in a-â
Another lapse of pain hurt so badly it knocked you right out.

Maybe Sometimes They Got It Wrong
Chapter 13
Word Count: 7,648 TW: Canon-typical, Family drama Master List || Previous || Next

âPreviously on a very special Clone High: Cleo started running for Homecoming Queen and Iâm pretty sure no one was actually running against her. But that didnât stop Cleo from recruiting CJ and Confucius from helping her get those votes. CJ accused Topher of starting a rumor about her and Cleo datingâ.â
âBecause he did start the rumor.â CJ cut Abe off.
Abe sighed. âMan, Iâm reading the script.â
âYour script sucks, ask a theater kid to write them.â CJ bluntly suggested.
CJ stood uncomfortably by the faux stage that she had ordered the art students to create specifically for the schoolâs gymnasium; she crossed her arms and slumped her shoulders forward. She grimaced at the assault on her senses, each note a reminder that first- and second-generation clones have clashing interests. She surveyed the students around her, the sea enjoying themselves more than she was, a kaleidoscope of bright colors and wild â80s hair mingling and dancing together. She was suffocated by cheap perfumes and axe body sprays to cover up the sweat. The dance she planned was way too chaotic, but she should have expected as muchâit was â80s themed. She didnât want to be here, but it felt like an obligation, not only did she plan the entire thing for Frida and Harriet, but she was the VP. Her discomfort was nothing more than a prickling sensation that crawled up her spine that settled heavily in her chest.
Despite this, she was proud of herself. The gym was decorated the utmost â80s aestheticâthe bleachers had been pushed back and covered by a large metallic backdrop, framed by brightly colored balloons (in other words, the aesthetic was loud because the â80s were a loud era). The food was pushed against the wall near the exits with more than enough tables surrounding the outskirts of the middle of the gym. CJ researched the most popular food items of the â80s: filled with sloppy joes, seven-layer dip, impossible pie, and dirt cake, and other snacks and candies. The drinks ranged from Capri Sun to Dr. Pepper. On the other end of the gym, there was a makeshift âphotoboothâ which, in reality, was just a small, concentrated, version of the backdrop on the bleachers with tables filled with props next to it.
âAttention! Attention!â Harriet spoke unusually soft into the microphone. âHello?â
She watched as the students continued to ignore Harrietâs subtle attempts to grab their attention over the volume of the chaotic blend of retro and modern music. She grumbled in annoyance at Harrietâs uncharacteristic unwillingness to be louder than the music or at least turn the volume of the music down. She stepped up to the stereo behind Harriet and turned the volume down.
CJ marched up to Harriet and swiped the microphone from her hands. âATTENTION.â Her impatient voice sliced through the noise like a blade. She forced the microphone back into Harrietâs hands.
The chatter of the student body died down as they slowly began to focus on the faux stage. Their startled silence rang louder than the drastic change in music genre still humming in the background and much louder than the sounds they produced. The anticipation of CJ and Harriet standing on the stage now captivated them, holding them in a new trance. CJ watched them transfer their attention from her to Harriet, their personal devices, and God knows what else to each other, unable to comprehend the excitement and willingness to participate in the Homecoming dance. She scrunched her nose and took a step back from Harriet and remained close to the stereoâdespite her already bleeding eardrums.
Harriet cleared her throat and held the microphone up. âAnd now, the moment you have all been waiting for! Itâs time to announce this yearâs Homecoming king and queen! This yearâs Homecoming king is inexplicably popular and so lovably dumb and so hotâin a way that even your parents would approve ofâand not a total piece of human garbageâ.â
âGet on with it.â CJ called out from behind her.
Harriet glanced behind her. âSheesh, lighten up, bish.â She held her hand out for both the envelope with the homecoming king name and the homecoming king crown. She quietly thanked Nostradamus and his friend after they handed her the envelope and the crown. She looked down at her hands and opened the envelope, reading over the words. âOur king isâŠâ She lowered her voice, âDoes this say Abe?â She stared at the card in confusion. âHuh, I for sure thought it would be the most popular guy in school⊠Our king is apparently Abe Lincoln.â She announced with less enthusiasm and vigor than she should have.
âOhâŠâ
âMyâŠâ
âGod.â
The student body remained silent at the announcement of the king. Absolutely no one seemed pleased or seemed to show any signs of having voted for Abe. Everyone turned around to stare at him as he slowly crept through the crowded gym to the stage to receive his crown. He nervously climbed up onto the shoddy architecture and joined Harriet by the microphone. He looked out into the crowd and waved at everyone with a forced, lopsided grin plastered on his face.
He bowed his head for Harriet to place the crown. âI donât know how this happened; I didnât even run.â He grew excited. âThis is really exciting.â His voice waveredâthe microphone barely picked up his voice. He seemed uncomfortable, almost unwilling to accept the crown.
âItâs just Homecoming, sweetie.â Harriet rolled her eyes as she placed the crown on his head.
Abe stood tall and looked toward the student body again; he pointed at the crown and grinned. He looked back at the individuals on the stageâhe looked for his friend, his new best friendâand showed her the crown. His smile only faltered when it appeared to him that CJ didnât share his enthusiasm.
CJ crossed her arms and slipped the real Homecoming king card out of her dress. She flashed Abe a crooked grin and hid the card back in her dress like she had never shown him what she had done as she walked off of the stage. This was her moment to disappear into the crowd again, to be where she wanted to beâlost at sea and unrecognizable to the naked eye.
Abeâs mouth hung open at what she had showed him.
Harriet interrupted his growing internal crisis by speaking into the microphone. âWhat a twist, am I right?â And now to announce our Homecoming queen!â Harriet squealed.
Frida ran up onto the faux stage and handed Harriet the envelope and the queenâs crown. âOh, it was a close count!â She accidently said into the microphone.
Harriet snatched the envelope out of Fridaâs hands and excitedly opened it up. She gasped at the name written in calligraphy. âNo freaking way!â She squealed into the microphone again. âOh, my gosh!â She giggled with Frida. âOkay, okay, okay.â She inhaled deeply.
âBreathe, girl.â Frida told her.
âEveryone! Your Homecoming queen isâŠâ she paused for dramatic effect, âplease put your hands together for⊠JOAN OF ARC!!!â Harriet cheered; she giggled again with Frida. âThis is so great.â She whispered to Frida.
âStop it.â Frida harshly whispered back.
CJ raised her eyebrows and stared at the back of Harrietâs head. âWhat?â Her irises shrank in disbelief. âExcuse me? âOf Arc?â She spoke with the taste of bitter injustice rolling off of her tongue; she swallowed hard and straightened her posture. She met Cleo next to the stage, away from the majority of the crowd.
âOh, absolutely not.â Cleoâs voice rang in CJâs ears with venom. âI worked hard for this crown, and she won?â She knitted her eyebrows together and pointed a finger at Joan from across the gym. She tried to lean over CJ, who stood nose-to-nose with her in heels.
CJ and Cleo looked over at Joan; both with their eyebrows drawn together. CJ clenched her jaw and curled her fingers into fists while Cleo crossed her arms and grimaced. Joan remained at the edge of the crowd, staring up at Frida and Harriet, shocked that she was announced Homecoming queen. Cleo looked away from Joan as she reluctantly dragged herself up onto the stage, she placed a hand on CJâs upper arm and turned her away from the stage.
âYou had this in the bag. She had to have done somethingâ.â CJ started.
Cleo rolled her eyes. âOf course, she did something. And if it wasnât her, it was one of her stupid friends.â
CJ tilted her head. âIâm going to need you to elaborate.â
Cleo huffed. âThere has to be a rumor, we missed something.â
CJ hummed and glanced over her shoulder.
Abe and Joan awkwardly stood next to each other, somewhat stammering over their words to each other because they were not on the best of termsâAbe was cancelled and, well, Joan dropped him for âbetterâ friends. They didnât seem to know how to interact with each other anymore and Joan didnât appear to want to interact with Abe at all. She was stiff, trying to avoid conversing with him, she looked as though she was giving him one- or two-word responses. Abe seemed uncomfortable with their exchanges.
âWe could take one of those selfies?â Abe suggested. âConfucius runs the schoolsâ social media.â
âUhm, no.â Joan responded.
Abe rubbed his arm nervously. âIs there a problem with taking a picture?â
Joan suddenly exploded in Abeâs face, her arms were outstretched, and her face was nearly as red as her hair. âYES, ABE! Yes, there is a problem with what you just asked! Thereâs definitely something wrong with taking a picture with you! Everyone is going to think Iâm cheating on JFK with you or worse, dating you as a rebound!â She scoffed and threw her arms in Abeâs direction; she glanced away from her former friend. âNot like you would understand, youâre single and your only real girlfriend was Cleo! She was never loyal to you!â
âHeyâ!â
Joan shook her head. âNo, Iâm not going to listen to you anymore, all you do is make mistakes! Iâm the homecoming queen and youâre the homecoming king, Abe, think about that. Iâm still dating JFK! Not you! Thatâs not even the only thing that could go wrong for me!â She pressed her hands to her temporals. She gripped her hair and groaned, exasperated at Abeâs lack of understanding. âJust because I didnât want Cleo to win, doesnât mean I wanted all of you to vote for me! I just didnât want Cleo to win because she doesnât deserve to win, she doesnât deserve the attention you give her!â She rambled, half yelling into the microphone.
âI justâ.â
âNo, there is no excuse for any of this, Abe!â Joan shouted. âNo one should be queen. I shouldnât be queen! It goes against everything I believe in. No one should be king either and-and you donât deserve that crown! After all of the mistakes youâve made, after how youâve hurt me?â She pointed to herself then dropped her arms to her sides.
âHow Iâve hurt you? Is this just about you?â Abe asked.
âYouâre missing the point!â Joan said.
Abe shook his head. âNo, I read you loud and clear.â
Frida crossed her arms. âSis, itâs just Hoco. Enjoy it, donât make a big deal over nothing.â
Harriet nodded. âYeah, itâs just for sophomore year, you deserve this crown.â
CJ leaned into Cleo. âShe doesnât even want it, what do we do?â
Cleo smirked. âI mean, we could stay here and watch.â
âYouâre going to instigate.â CJ deadpanned.
Cleo hummed and nodded. She returned her attention to the commotion up on the faux stage; she cupped her hands around her cherry red lips. âGet off the stage! I demand a recount!â She dropped her arms to her side and looked at CJ. âThis is ridiculous, no one was even running against me! I put so much effort into my Homecoming campaign! And Iâm freaking Cleopatra!â
CJ glanced at Cleo, then back at the commotion on the stage. âObviously. I donât know who would vote for someone other than Cleopatra, they must be delusional. That or two entire generations of clones canât even do so much as count.â
Cleo raised an eyebrow and smiled at CJ. âSo, you agree?â
âNaturally.â CJ crossed her arms and stood with her feet shoulder width apart.
Cleo clenched her teeth and looked back toward the stage. âIt should be me up there! Not Joan!â
âObviously.â CJ agreed, yet again. âI counted the votes myself; you were the winner, and I made some adjustments and rigged the votes for the Homecoming kingâno offense to Kennedy, but you did tell me to be careful of Joan. In order to keep the peace, I changed the king.â
Cleo relaxed slightly. âYou did that for me?â She glanced at CJ then back at the stage. âWell, then who would have changed the votes for the Homecoming queen?â
âSomeone who doesnât know me very well.â CJ thought aloud; she looked at Harriet. âSomeone obsessively encouraging Joan to accept the crown.â CJ looked over at Frida. âMore than one someone.â
Cleo rubbed her lips together, smoothing the red lipstick over her lips. She held a tightlipped smile across her face; she shifted her weight toward CJ. âYou might be onto something.â
âJust take the crown, Joan!â Harriet reapproached Joan, returning the stage conversation back to its original state. âYouâre the Homecoming queen! Just accept it!â
Joan shook her head and backed away from Harriet. âNo, no! This isnât what I asked for! This isnât what I wanted, Harriet!â She looked at her. âI didnât ask to be Homecoming queen, I donât want your stupid crown, I donât want to be part of your stupid monarchy.â
Harriet held the crown out for Joan and scoffed. âUgh, just take the crown. No one wanted to vote for some unethical pumpkin murderer.â
âWHAT?!â Cleo raised her voice.
CJ puckered her lips and cocked her head to the side. âWell, thereâs that too.â
CJ and Cleo watched their fellow students on the stage carefully. Abe was less than confident after his verbal disagreement with Joanâalso knowing that he didnât win fair and square. He couldnât even look at her without furrowing his brow and frowning. Had CJ known that Harriet was going to pull the same stunt, she would have never but Abe up on that stage. But then again, having Abe on that stage next to Joanâboth of them as Homecoming king and queen...
She glanced down through the sea of students toward an area that was heavily concentrated. JFK was surrounded by his entire football team, Confucius, Juluis, and several of his other male friends and acquaintances. She almost smirked at this little bit of misfortune he was experiencingâas the stories would tell, JFK had never lost a popularity contest that involved a crown. Student body president, sure. But a crown? Never. The double whammy in this situation would be that Abe was wearing what would have been JFKâs crown had CJ not interfered and he was with Joan. CJâs pleased expression faltered with JFK looked away from Confucius and glanced toward her and Cleo; his eyes glistened in the dim party lights, reminding her of his insecurities about his relationship with Joan.
She clenched her teeth and swallowed hardâshe hadnât intended on this happening, she just wanted to help Abe, not hurt JFKâif what she was seeing was hurt. She looked away from him, not wanting to search his eyes or facial expression for any answers or to study his expression to understand what he was feeling. She looked back toward the stage and scanned the rest of the clones. Frida and Harriet stood near each otherâas they usually do, never one without the other, it was weird for them to be separate. Frida looked in CJ and Cleoâs general direction, her expression mirrored one that Joan would often give CJ for being near JFK. CJ couldnât, for the life of her, understand why Frida would have such an expression. She knew Frida had a crush on someone, but there were so few people in CJâs area, it was hard for CJ to precisely pinpoint the individual Frida was glaring at and the individual she had a crush onâand it should be easy considering. Harriet and Joan were facing each other, arguing, flailing their arms about. Harriet waved the crown around Joan, trying to place it on Joanâs head while Joanâif she kept with her own agendaâtried to protest her royal Homecoming status.
CJ glanced at the bottom of Cleoâs dress. âI think youâre correct. Joan is not the bigger person, nor is she the honest and good person that she tries to paint herself to be. I think Iâm starting to understand your warning a little more clearlyâand I thank you for that warning.â She looked up at Cleo; she turned to face her and crossed her arms. She inhaled deeply. âJoan isnât the only one I have to be cautious of, is she?â
Cleoâs anger temporarily sank beneath the surface at CJâs innocent question. Her eyebrows lifted and something in the shape of her irises shifted; her grimace disappeared. She slowly turned to face CJ and frowned. âI already told you, youâre naĂŻve.â Her eyes traced CJâs slender face, searching for the expression that matched the sad tone of her voice. âI didnât say it to be mean, I said it to help you. But, You donât believe that, do you?â
âThatâs not what I said.â CJ tried to reach for Cleoâs hand.
âNo.â Cleo stepped away from her. âI donât want to talk to you about this. Any of this. Just leave me alone.â She balled her fists and turned her back toward CJ.
âWaitâ.â CJ stepped forward.
CJ watched Cleo leave her standing beside the stage. She suddenly felt herself becoming intertwined in a string of failed social interactions, each one a different weight. She thought she could ignore the feeling of being weighed down if she could just watch and listen to the nonsense that was Harriet (and most of the other clones) counting down from ten to place the Homecoming crown upon Joanâs head.
Joan glanced up at the crown in Harrietâs hands. âI HAVE THE USE THE BATHROOM!â She yelled and snatched the crown out of Harrietâs hands. She ran off of the faux stage and out of the gym.
For a moment, the gym was filled with an insufferably awkward silenceâthat was now two people that ran out of the gym over the Homecoming queen crownâor so CJ thought. To drown out the chaos, the music was turned back up and it was unanimously decided to pretend that everything was fine. But it wasnât fine. CJ felt like she was caught in the eye of the storm, a dangerous one. She was frozen in place, watching the students resume dancing and socializing around her. She felt alien again, surreal, like an observer of her own life. Her feet didnât feel like they were on the ground, nor did she feel like her acquaintances were within reach. The idea of popularity, the concept of social interaction continued to remain just outside of her grasp like the stars in the skyâsure, she felt like an alien, but even aliens had access to the stars and star-like things. The noise rang in her ears until there was nothing but the sound of angry buzzing left. No music, no chatter. Just the hum of the frequency itself.
Harriet cleared her throat. âWell, that was odd.â
CJâs head flew back in a half nod motion. âOdd isnât the word I would use, per se.â She blinked at Harriet. âI like to think that Iâm repeating myself, but Iâll do it again. We were fine without the first-generation, but that, obviously, was not up to us. Every disaster, such as this one, is a direct result of them. How odd, indeed.â
Frida forced herself to look at CJ and grin. âDonât hate, girl. Theyâre still new to 2023. Just relax.â
CJ rotated her eyes. âOh, my sincerest apologies, speaker of the first-generation clones. You are absolutely right, let me just relax and take it as it is. After all, I was the only sucker on this stupid council to put my time and effort into Homecoming. Alone. Because if I so much as let you help, youâd piss me off. Neither of you could even plan a Homecoming âprom-posalâ or whatever itâs called, so, no, I was not letting you help. Not to mention, I wasted three days helping Cleo secure Homecoming votes and she still lost.â She threw her arms above her head. âHard to believe, if I do say so myself.â
âAre you accusing us of something?â Harriet spat.
CJ raised an eyebrow. âAccusing you of something? No, what Iâm saying is that I think it was totally uncalled for that Joan gets to spread a rumor and squander my campaign.â
âSquander?â Frida mumbled.
Harriet scoffed and crossed her arms. âRight, and I sure Abe winning Homecoming king wasnât your doing?â
âMine? Of course not, everyone knows JFK should have won.â CJ drew her lips into a thin line. âAre you accusing me of something?â She used Harrietâs question against her.
Harriet laughed. âAh-ha-ha! Um, actually yes, yes, I am!â She outstretched her arms and leaned slightly forward. âIâll tell you what really happened, Miss Perfect.â She pointed a pink fingernail at CJ. âYou rigged the votes in order for your cancelled boyfriend to win instead of the most popular boy in school. All because you want your crowd to look better than us. What you didnât account for was the rumor that Joan came up with to ruin your and Cleoâs reputation during your campaign for Cleo! Joan and JFK were supposed to be Homecoming king and queen!â She began to raise her voice.
âBoyfriend? Crowd?â
âOh, please.â Harriet rolled her eyes. âJust admit to the world youâre dating Abe; everyone can see it. And your crowd is Abe.The cancelled kids, the disliked kids. Youâre not better than them. The only reason youâre âone of usâ is because youâre the principal little pest. Why donât you go find the girlfriend youâre cheating on and kiss it better?â
âCleo is not my girlfriend.â CJ insisted. âAbe is not my boyfriend. Get some better bullying material.â She hissed.â
âThen go back to the grave you crawled out of!â Harriet threw her hands in the air. She stormed away from Frida and CJ.
Frida cleared her throat. âI donât want to hear anything about Cleo with you.â
âAre we gatekeeping topics of conversation?â CJ knitted her brow in confusion.
Frida shook her head. âItâs justâŠâ she paused. âI told you I was crushing on Cleo, and you went off and started flirting with her. That hurt more than any insult youâve ever thrown my way.â She pressed her hand to her chest. She stared up at CJ with glossy eyes. âI thought we were friends, man. I even had to find out from FlipFlop that you started dating Cleo right before Hoco. And I was getting ready to ask her.â Her eyes wandered CJâs form.
âExcuse me?â CJ leaned forward.
âYou just keep finding new and cheap ways to take digs at people.â Frida told her. âI thought we were cool, but I thought wrong.â
âI-I-Iâm going to stop you,â she pointed at Frida and pressed her finger against her clavicle, âright there.â She pulled her hand away and crossed her arms. She held her elbows and looked away from Frida and Harriet, trying to contain her laughter at the absurdity and at how confused she was. âMy God, I feel like Iâm in an Alternate Reality.â
âHuh?â
CJ looked down at Frida. âYou never said who. You only said âsomeoneâ. And, for the record, I was not flirting with Cleo and Iâm oh so sorry if it seemed like I was. Iâm not dating Cleo. Iâm not dating Abe.â She stepped forward and stared down her nose at Frida. âTopher posted those goofy videos on his FlipFlop, so I would take those with a grain of saltâuhm, you know, not trueâbecause Topher has a problem with me, and he can continue to have a problem with me because I donât care what Topher thinks of me, okay?â She scrunched her nose and drew her eyebrows together and down; she tensed the muscles in her face to match the anger bubbling beneath the surface. Because she did care about Topherâs opinion of her, and she did care about what he was doing to her reputation. âI donât want to date Cleo; I donât want to flirt with Cleo. I donât want to date Abe, I donât want to flirt with Abe.â She took a step back from Frida and relaxed her face. She dropped her arms to her side and slowly tucked them behind her back and beneath the bow of her dress.
âButâ.â
âBut nothing, Kahlo. I thought we were getting along just fine. Swell, as some might say, but I, too, was wrong. I wholeheartedly donât expect you to believe me after Topherâs viral video. But I said my piece, Iâm walking away now because I donât care about what either of you say next.â She took a step back from Frida.
âHow do you have the balls to say that?â Frida gawked.
CJ snorted. âThe same way you have the balls to dress like that, stand next to Harriet, and say you two arenât dating. Same dilemma as mine, right? But wait, no one will ever assume anything because youâre Frida fucking Kahlo.â She outstretched her arms and stepped backwards.
She turned her back toward Frida. Her eyes were stale, not a single glint of confidence or anger reflected in them. As she walked away from Frida, the clones closest to their conversation continued to watch, some of which had moved slightly to allow CJ some room to make her great escape. She approached the food and drinks without any real reason, she wasnât hungry, maybe thirsty after all of the talking she participated in, but otherwise there was no reason for her to be by the food tables. Her choices in food didnât entice her, nor did that aid in easing her tensionsâshe was already out of her comfort zone by wearing a dress, and one that didnât even cover her arms at that, plus sheâs at a social event thatâs out of her comfort zone. She was out of her element. She was getting progressively more furious.
She knitted her eyebrows together and picked up a paper plate down by the desserts and snacks. She piled the snack-sized junk food onto her plateâthis ought to help. Or not.
Abe approached the table and grabbed a plate of his own. âAwh man, you really out did yourself!â He praised her collection of snacks and food items.
She hummed.
Abe looked down at her. âSo, whatâs your favorite candy?â
âI like Twix, but I find the left and right marketing scheme to be stupid.â She looked at Abe and her brow furrowed. âWhat happens if my left and right Twix are directionally challenged?â
âThatâs a very good question.â He pointed at her. âArenât you the scientist?â
CJ hummed again and looked away from Abe.
âHave you ever had a York?â He reached across the table and grabbed a few peppermint patties.
âThat thing?â She pointed at the silver wrapped chocolate in his hand. âI heard it had the same consistency as toothpaste, that does not sound appealing to me.â
Abe chuckled. âTry one. Itâs not so bad.â He held one out for her.
CJ hesitantly took a peppermint patty from his hand and scrunched her nose. âBut itâs just toothpaste encased in chocolate.â She looked down at Abeâs plate of dinner items and candies. She held her plate out for Abe to holdâwhich he did. She gingerly unwrapped the piece of chocolate and pulled the patty out of the silver packaging. She inspected it, expecting it to be explosive or poisonous, except it was just extremely minty. She drew her brow together and poked at the peppermint patty with her tongue.
Abe tilted his head and stifled his laughter.
âWhat?â She stared at him with wide eyes, hinting at a bit of panic. Her cheeks flushed and a pout formed on her lips. âI donât trust it.â She took a small bite out of the peppermint patty and knitted her eyebrows together again. She stared at the patty and inspected it, front and back. She hummed and pushed the rest of it into her mouth.
Abe nudged her shoulder. âToothpaste tastes good, right?â He handed her plate back to her, grinning at his own little joke.
She chewed slowly, staring at him with her eyebrows still drawn together and a bit more of a pout on her lips.
âReally? It wasnât funny?â He chuckled to himself.
âIt was kind of funny.â She mumbled and gripped her plate. She glanced toward the exit, then back down at her plate.
âSoooo, floss flavored jellybeans next time?â He asked.
CJ pushed him lightly. âEw, no.â She pushed her snacks and desserts around on her plate. She peered at the exit again and bit the insides of her cheeks. She slumped her shoulders and allowed her eyes to begin darting around the room, plotting an exit strategy.
Abe frowned. âI saw you and Cleo getting upset earlier. We worked really hard on her campaign; I didnât know Joan was going to win.â
âWe?â She hissed. âYou mean Confucius and I⊠and I really donât care for this fake friendship the four of us have.â
âDid Cleo leave because of the whole Joan becoming Homecoming queen thing?â He asked.
She nodded slowly. âYeah, I thinkâŠâ her voice trailed.
Abe was unconvinced despite not knowing CJ all too well. âAnd what about Frida and Harriet? What was that all about?â
CJ shrugged her shoulders and leaned away from Abe. âTheyâre upset about Topherâs stupid FlipFlop videos. I donât understand why.â She omitted information and stared at the exit.
Abe swallowed hard and gripped his plate tighter. He drew the corners of his lips back and followed her gaze. âHey, uhm, text me when you get home.â
âWhat do you mean?â
He looked at her again. âI mean exactly what I said. Text me when you get home.â
âIf I leave, who are you going to spend your Homecoming with?â She asked.
A small smile spread across his lips. âDonât worry about me. Homecoming isnât for everyone; I want to be here. Iâm also the king, remember?â
She stared blankly at Abe. âWill you let me know when you get home?â
âI sure will.â Abe nodded.
CJ watched Abe saunter off to his friends; she remained by the table for a moment longer. She watched Homecoming for a few more moments. She felt frozen, stuck to the ground, and time seemed to slow down around her. The party around her continued to feel dull; the students danced by, and Abe âdisappearedâ into the crowd. CJ remained idle, her eyebrows were drawn together, strained, and she didnât look approachable.
It was kind of funny to be able to see Abe tower over the majority of their peers with the added glint of the metallic plastic crown. He would always stick out like a sore thumb, crown or no crown.
She walked toward the exit and dropped her plate in the nearest trashcan as she walked past it. She pushed the doors of the gym open and entered the fluorescent yellow school hallway; that was the joy of everyone being distracted by loud music and other students, she could leave with ease. Even the chaperones didnât seem to notice her not-so-stealthy escape. She took her time walking around the school to get to her locker just so she could grab her car keys and wallet (considering they were not on her person while she was in the gym because she refused to carry them during Homecoming and didnât know where else to keep them). She kicked her locker door shut and slunk through the school and slipped through the main entrance to get to her car.
CJ was perched on the kitchen counter, she tapped her left hands against the counter, with limited finger movements, still from her previous injuries. She pressed her clonefatherâs bottle of whiskey to her lips and hummed against the brim. She felt a twinge of nervousness tug at the back of her mind as she never really drank at home since Julius had made her acquaintance (or if she did it was because she had her own stash and wasnât drinking from Scudworthâs âbad habit pileâ as she called it). The whiskey burned a fiery trail down her throat, serving as a bitter reminder of both teenage rebellion and that she doesnât actually like whiskey. Her heart skipped a beat as she heard the front door swing open.
âThis is such a disaster Mister B! Iâm going to get blamed for Cleo getting the Homecoming crown! This was not part of the plan!â Scudworth rambled. âWait, Mister B, if I can get the crown back to Joan, Candide will surely see how capable I am!â
Mr. B trailed behind him. âRightâŠâ
CJ inhaled deeply and lifted her arm; she rested her cheek in her left hand and lightly gulped down another sip of whiskey. She listened to her clonefather rattle off how he might be able to convince Joan to wear the crown again by just stealing the crown back from Cleo and giving it to Joan and giving Joan an ultimatum. And then she listened to him get stuck on the ultimatum because he had no idea what his students would bend to. The only thing he could potentially threaten Joan with is the schoolâs death maze.
âYes, of course, that could work. Unless, well, it doesnât.â Scudworth pushed the door to the kitchen open, having lost interest in his original topic of conversation. âBut whatever I do, Mister B, I have to do it right because thatâs the only what I can prove to Candide that I am completely capable!â
âOf what?â Mr. B raised a metallic eyebrow.
Scudworth opened his mouth to speak and pointed a finger toward the ceiling before taking offense to Mr. Bâs question. âYâknow, I donât like your attitude, Mister B. Youâve been spending too much time with those nasty teenagers.â He looked over at CJ briefly, not yet noticing her delinquency. He walked through the kitchen to grab himself a drink. âThis is about showing Candide exactly what I can do, what I am capable of. If I succeed, sheâll stop playing hard to get.â
CJ coughed through a laugh. She pressed the back of her right hand against her nose.
âWhatâs so funny?â Scudworth asked.
Mr. B, the shortest of those living in the Scudworth residence, noticed the glass bottle between the gaps in the way she was leaning against the counter. He drew his eyebrows up and stared at her, wanting to speak up, but knowing his words to fall on deaf ears (and not to mention, rile up Scudworth even more).
âCandide still doesnât like you.â CJ choked out, amused.
Scudworth scoffed. âYouâre no help to me in this. You obviously donât know a thing about women, she is into me. You are just making it extremely difficult for her to enjoy my company.â
She snorted. âYeah, okay.â She nodded. âSure.â
Scudworth blinked at her. âI donât like your attitude either.â
âPfft, thatâs nothing new.â She set the bottle of whiskey down on the counter, with her hand still tightly wrapped around it, and laughed dryly. âYou never have.â
âThatâs not true and you know it.â He narrowed his eyes at her.
She turned around and leaned her back against the counter. She hummed and dragged the bottle across the counter and lifted it to her lips again. âRiiiiight.â She took another sip, it was sort of exciting to do something she knew Scudworth frowned upon right in front of him, but it was also nerve-wracking.
At first, he didnât register what sheâs drinking. âI have no idea what your problem is, but Iâm getting so sick and tired of itâ.â He abruptly stopped talking. His eyes widened with surprise, just for a moment, before they narrowed again, but with a sense of disapproval. âWhat are you doing?â
She chuckled. âOh, this you can see? Shocking. It took you awhile though.â She was so tired of feeling invisible to him, just in general, but now also to his new fabricated affection toward Candide. She gritted her teeth and grinned, wanting so desperately to be proud of the thick tension she created between them, but couldnât stand to breathe in it. âWhy is the stupid crown so important?â She spoke, trying to mask her annoyance.
âDonât you change the subject.â Scudworth pointed at her; he walked toward her, intending on snatching the whiskey out of her hands. He was disappointed, to say the very least. But CJ didnât take this as a disappointment, his action was malicious as far was she was concerned.
Mr. B rolled between Scudworth and CJ as a preventative measure, one intended to keep the peace. âThe crown has a very powerful gemstone.â The unwelcome third party answered for Scudworth.
CJ tilted her head to the side and narrowed her eyes. She remained silent as she tried to figure out what the crown had to do with Scudworthâs infatuation for Candide. âI donât see how your cockamamie scheme gets you anything with Candideâshe doesnât like you and I donât understand how you donât see it.â
âGo to your room.â Scudworth pointed toward the kitchen door. âAnd leave the whiskey.â
âMmmmno.â She shook her head. âItâs funny to me.â A grin spread across her face, a poignant mask to hide her festering anger and hurt.
âWhat is?â Scudworth cocked his head to the side, trying not to raise his voice to his defiant clone.
She shrugged her shoulders. âThis. Youâre trying not to be mad, but youâre mad. Youâre not even trying to force me to stop, youâre just watching.â She sipped the whiskey. âAnd Iâm a little disappointed in your selection, it kind of sucks.â
Scudworth clenched his teeth and smiled. âYouâre a pain in the ass.â
âAs are you.â She said. âAnd youâre delusional. Fixing this crown situation is not going to get you a steamy first date with Candide.â
Scudworth inhaled deeply. âThat is not the point of getting your classmate Joan to wear the stupid crown! Itâs just a coincidence that Joan happens to be Candideâs foster daughter and was voted to be Homecoming queen! But your girlfriend ruined it! I need to get that crown back to Joan!â He tried to explain himself. âI cannot take the blame for this failure; I need to make it right!â
CJ narrowed her eyes and leaned her head forward. âThe math is still not mathing.â
âWhat the fuck does that even meanâyou kids and your bullshit slang!â Scudworth threw his arms up; he crossed his arms and squinted at her.
CJ exhaled deeply. âIt means I still donât understand, dumbass.â
Scudworth stared at her and blinked. He looked down at Mr. B, then at the floor, then back at her. âAre you stupid or something?â
CJ snorted. âAsks the druggie that dropped me.â She muttered under her breath.
âThe Board wants to use the crown on a strong-willed student as part of their operation.â Mr. B clarified for CJ.
CJ motioned to Mr. B with a slight smirk on her face.
Scudworth mumbled something incoherentâat least to CJâunder his breath.
CJ drew her eyebrows together. âSo, let me fill in the gaps myself. Candide wants Joan to wear the crown? Is she delusional?â
âNo, sheâs not delusional!â Scudworth defended Candide.
CJ nodded slowly. âGot it.â She pursed her lips. She pushed herself off of the counter and glanced toward the sink. She stood there for a moment, wondering what she should say next, what she could say next. Her words were falling onto deaf ears, he wasnât listening to her, but that came as no surprise to her, she shouldnât be upset over it. âSo, youâre the delusional one.â She slowly turned her head back toward him.
She tilted her head to the side and studied her clonefather; her eyes bounced back and forth between the lenses of his glances, trying to see through the glare. She clenched her jaw and drew her eyebrows together, she focused on examining him, hardly blinking. She felt the pattern of her breathing change and began to hear her heart against her eardrums; what she couldnât understand was why. She and Scudworth had butted heads in the past, they had argued in the past. So why did this feel different? Why did this force her to hide her trembling hands and try to maintain a straight or angry expression? He was quick to become obsessed with the next new thingâCandide in this caseâbut what hadnât changed was what little care he put into her. Well, maybe it had changed. He became so enamored with his boss. Maybe he was the one who had changed.
âIâm notâmaybe to you and your stupid teenage mind! And your clouded judgment!â Scudworth raised his voice. âWe are working on something so much bigger than you!â
âUh-hum, no, Iâm not. Candide is delusional. Her strong-willed student fell into the teenage drama-trap of spreading rumors, making fake friends, and being a fake friend.â CJ scrunched her nose and drew her eyebrows together. âAnd I think your big plan is stupid, and you are delusional.â
âI think you should go to your room, Wesley.â Mr. B tried to tell her.
She peered down at Mr. B and pressed the tip of her finger into her chest. âMe? Send this bozo to his room!â She quickly outstretched her arm and pointed at Scudworth.
âThis is my house!â Scudworth retorted. âHe canât send me to my room!â
CJ sipped the whiskey again; the liquor burned as much as holding back her tears of frustration with the people she regarded are more of roommates than anything else. She set the now empty bottle of whiskey on the counter beside her and crossed her arms.
âDid you just⊠finish that?â Scudworth asked, continuing to be blocked by Mr. B.
âLike you havenât done worse.â She said, roughly incoherently.
âWhat was that?â
CJ pursed her lips and raised her brow; she shook her head. âNothing, justâ. Nothing.â She paused and glanced toward the space between herself and Mr. B. He served as a barrier, the continued unwanted guest. She felt like the room was spinning and, in a sense, she continued to feel like she was an observer of her own life, watching from above her own head. âI just think you donât see the problem.â
âWhat problem? I donât see any problems; I see a stupid teenager harping on bullshit. I see a teenager pulling problems out of her ass like every other teenager in this stupid generation!â Scudworth raised his voice and thew his arms in the air, dismissing her words, as he usually does. He widened his eyes and furrowed his brow; he studied her facial expression.
Even Mr. B peered at her with some semblance of confusion.
CJ shrugged her shoulders. âI mean, if you just took a second to listen to yourself, youâd understand.â She leaned forward. âYouâre obsessed with someone who wants to step on youâand not in the internet meaning wayâyour work is the second most important thing to you, the most important thing to you is your stupid Cloney Island,â she pushed herself off of the counter. She stumbled past Mr. B and approached Scudworthâs âhiddenâ stash of alcohol and opened the cabinet door. âYou also have this, which isnât the only stash you have, this is just whatâs in the kitchen. Do I even have to mention any other drugs that you do?â She kicked the cabinet door closed.
âSee, there you go again, harping on problems I donât even have!â He spat. âItâs recreational; I donât drink more or less than the average person, anything else that I do is⊠is for fun. Recreational, like I said.â
âRecreational, daily, addiction. Itâs all the same.â She scrunched her nose.
Scudworth gritted his teeth. âI have just about had it with you.â
âPuh,â CJ rolled her eyes. âHave you checked yourself lately?â She walked past him and Mr. B again and made her way toward the kitchen door. She pressed her fingertips against the kitchen door, unable to feel the cool wood against her the skin of her left hand. She glanced behind her, first making limited eye contact with Mr. B, then merely looking at her clonefather.
âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â
She gritted her teeth and flared her nostrils. She looked at the kitchen door again and stood there in the tense silence she and her parental figures had created by being unable to get along with each other. âHave you ever considered that I donât want to be your mirror?â Her voice was low, an unusual tone for a Scudworth. The venom in her eyes matched the venom in her voice. She slipped out of the kitchen and escaped into the confines of her bedroom.

Before running off to save Shiro, Lance does think things through. A bit. And he convices Hunk and Pidge he needs to grab something very important from his room. Which he does. His medication for his ADHD and his anti-depressants.
So of course Keith manages to get there before them but, well, Lance knew very well that rescuing Shiro from the dubiously-ethical-at-best medical examinations the Garrison was putting him through was going to be the end of their careers and while totally worth it... he didn't want to cold-turkey his medications - especially not the anti-depressants - if he didn't have to.
Then whole thing with the Blue Lion happens and they're suddenly on the other side of the galaxy, in an alien castle, looking for four - well, three really - more Lion Robots. Lance manages to take Allura aside and while she assumes that she's going to have to shut down more flirting, Lance instead asks her if there's any way for the castle to scan the medications he needs to take daily and create more as needed? Because, well, he kinda really needs this stuff because his neurochemistry kinda depends on them to stay stable.
After assuring her it's not life threatening if he can't get more of his medication, (he's just not sure how useful he'd be as a Palladin without them but he's not gonna say that to her) Lance and Allura head to the medical area of the ship and indeed their scanning equipment is able to easily identify all the active and inactive ingredients in Lance's meds and also replicate the correct dosages. The final result is differently colored and shaped from Lance's prescription from the Garrison pharmacy but otherwise chemically identical and exactly what Lance will need when his current script runs out.
And while the stress and eventual build up of trauma eventually starts to mean that Lance's anti-depressants aren't helping as much as they used to, what can Lance do about it really? Ask to run by Earth so he can discuss new medication options with his therapist? He's managing well enough despite losing Shiro and gaining Shiro back and Keith leaving and then everyone treating him kind of like a joke because Shiro won't listen to him the way Keith would and then Lotor showing up all sketchy and his unrequited feelings for Allura getting stomped on and then it turns out Shiro is an evil clone except the Real!Shiro's spirit inhabits the clone and Keith comes back and...
And there's the whole dying and being resurrected thing. Lance is trying not to think about that. About how he doesn't want to die but he doesn't feel happy to be alive either and...
And then the castle blows up, leaving Lance with whatever supply of his medications he has in his Lion, the backup stock that Allura never bothered to remove from Blue... and that's it unless someone else was keeping his medications for him too.
It's a long way back to civilization and he's already struggling badly with his depression with a steady supply of anti-depressants. He doesn't know how he's going to deal with it when those run out. And how is he supposed to ask for help when he feels like no one takes him seriously anymore, if they ever did?
In other words, it's a long way home and Lance needs to take a crash course in actually reaching out for help with his mental health all over again since he can't exactly tell his parents he's struggling this time. And surprisingly - to him, anyway - Keith is somehow the easiest one to talk to while Shiro is all comatose.
