The guitar Eddie Van Halen used in the music video for Van Halen's "Hot For Teacher" is going up for auction at Sotheby's.
The custom-made Kramer axe has a minimum bid of $1.8 million, and is valued at between two and three million dollars.
According to Sotheby's, stage-used and -filmed guitar was custom made by Paul Unkert of Kramer Guitars for Eddie Van Halen, including important innovations customized for Eddie's evolving guitar technique. It served as one of Eddie Van Halen's primary guitars in 1983 and 1984. The guitar was gifted by Eddie Van Halen to the band's retiring drum tech Gregg Emerson around 1990. Emerson subsequently gave the guitar to his nephew, who sold the guitar to Neal's Music in Huntington Beach, California. Neal's Music then sold the instrument to its current owner.
The guitar comes with a letter of provenance by Unkert, a signed photograph from Eddie Van Halen, its original case with tour and Warner Brothers tags, and the strait jacket and white gloves worn by Van Halen in the video.
Unkert's accompanying letter details the guitar's history: "The 'Hot For Teacher' Van Halen [guitar] was built by me at the Kramer Green Grove Road Plant in Neptune, NJ around 1982-1985/ #CO176. Look for 'Unk' stamps on Neck and Body. It was my last project for Ed and Kramer."
Bidding for the guitar closes next Tuesday, April 18.
"Hot For Teacher" appeared on Van Halen's album "1984". The Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) objected to the song after its original release, calling for it to be pulled from both the radio and television, due to the track's sexually suggestive lyrics referring to sex with a teacher, and a female teacher stripping in the video, among other issues.
In 2009, "Hot For Teacher" was named the 36th best hard rock song of all time by VH1.
The "Hot For Teacher" video was filmed at John Marshall High School in Los Angeles, California. Because the school had been shut down due to insufficient funds at the time the video was recorded, Van Halen not only paid to rent the school for four days of filming but they also contributed money to the city to help get it reopened.

Tumblr media
(The following is an excerpt from the July 17, 2023 edition of The Weekend Roundup, a gossip column posted every Monday afternoon on GossipWeb.com and the GossipWeb app.)
Wedding bells are in the air for model Chrissy Munson and nature photographer David Greggs. The pair have officially announced their engagement on Sunday via social media, confirming recent rumors.
The happy couple shared the news on their respective Instagram accounts, showing photos of the two happily embracing on a beach at sunset. In one, Munson is holding out her hand to show off the huge sapphire and diamond engagement ring now sitting on her finger.
“I said YES!” Munson captioned her photo while Greggs captioned his, “She said YES!”
The pair first made headlines back in 2021, when they were spotted having dinner together just a few weeks after Munson filed for divorce from Corroded Coffin’s frontman, Eddie Munson.
While “Irreconcilable differences” were listed in the official court filing, representatives for both Eddie and Chrissy have declined to comment further on the matter. In the social media post announcing the divorce, Chrissy took a diplomatic path, stating, “Sometimes our plans in life just don’t work out the way we want them to. Unfortunately, this is one of those times. I wish Eddie nothing but the best and wish nothing but happiness for him. While our marriage may be over, he will always hold a special place in my heart.”
But, while her words made it sound like the split was an amicable one, many have their doubts it was that simple.
Rumors had been circulating regarding her ex husband’s hard partying lifestyle for years. Insiders have come forward to provide accounts of escalating drug and alcohol abuse, and extremely irrational and erratic behavior from the rockstar. Shortly after the divorce filing, it was reported to multiple news outlets that an intervention was been staged for Munson just a few days prior to the court filing, but it had failed.
In related news, the former members of Corroded Coffin are continuing to stay busy and are enjoying far more laid back schedules.
Following a highly successful album with their band Fallen Shadows, Jeff Richards and Grant Lee have announced a small, twenty city tour that will occur early next year. While the dates and cities are still to be determined, the two are looking forward to getting back on the road.
“It’s been awhile, but we’re itching to get back out there,” Richards stated in a Facebook post. “There’s nothing like bringing our music out into the world and sharing it in person with the fans.”
But Gareth Emerson hasn’t been so eager to return to the spotlight.
Following a successful stay at the Betty Ford Center, which he entered in December 2019, Emerson says he has done a lot of thinking about his life and who he wants to be, both as a person and an artist.
“The stress I was constantly putting myself under was ultimately my downfall,” he explained in a Facebook post full of self reflection. “And one of the biggest stressors for me was the constant need to promote myself, to sell myself basically. I stopped feeling like a person and started feeling like a piece of meat. In this business, it doesn’t take long before you start getting treated like a machine and you start looking for ways to cope. And, usually, you find yourself coping by turning to drugs. Now I don’t have to just cope because I refuse to put myself back in that stressful position.”
Emerson continues to write and record new music, which he releases on iTunes under his own name. While he’s leaning heavily into experimental sounds, his new style seems to be gravitating towards a blend of classic rock n’ roll, folk and heavy metal. It’s not a combination you would expect to hear from a speed metal drummer, but Emerson clearly has hidden talents he’s only just starting to show the world.
As for the frontman and lead guitarist, Eddie Munson, unfortunately, there’s not much can be said.
The statement from Corroded Coffin announcing their hiatus came in late 2019 just a few days after Munson and Emerson’s very publicized fistfight at the UK Music Video Awards. While he virtually dropped out of the spotlight as a musician in the following months, Munson was frequently in the news due to his excess partying and rowdy behavior.
Then, in 2022, he unexpectedly disappeared from the LA party scene, only to resurface a few months later in his old hometown of Hawkins, Indiana.
Representatives for Munson have declined to comment, so the true reasons for his returning to Hawkins are still unclear. The rocker has yet to make any return trips home to California within the last eighteen months since his departure. This adds credibility to a more recent rumor we reported on last week that Munson is in negotiations to sell his Malibu home to a private seller.
Perhaps the rockstar has finally turned over a new leaf?
Some signs point to yes.
Earlier this year, Gareth Emerson’s wife, actress Kim Simmons-Emerson, sent well wishes to Eddie in a heartfelt Instagram post. She posted an old photo of Munson and Emerson from high school with the caption, “Today marks a new beginning for old friends. We’re so proud of you. We knew you could do it.”

Ooh, I wanna be there in my city

Journey - Infinity (Columbia, 1978) - Cover illustrated by Alton Kelley and Stanley Mouse
Kelley and Mouse would illustrate the group's next four albums, with a similar psychedelic sci-fi theme.
I'll give anyone a cookie if they correctly identify what "city" the group is referring to in the lyrics for "Lights". Here's a hint: I want to get back to my city by the bay.
This album is also important for one thing: it introduced Journey's new lead vocalist, a 28-year-old singer-songwriter from Kings County, California named Steve Perry. The rest, as we say, is history.
Just for shits and giggles, here's the back cover for the album. The group photo was taken by Sam Emerson:

Read the full article

Anyway, mom got sick because Emerson and Peyton are both humans like dad. Grandpa told me that because they don’t have powers like me, Pax, or Waverly, that they took mom’s power to compensate. Or, her energy. She’s still a vampire but she’s more lethargic. If not for Adele’s help, mom wouldn’t have enough power to give to Em, Peyton AND herself. We all thought she was going to die. That was almost 3 years ago and mom is still recovering. But, she’s doing a lot better now. Thank the watcher.
Pax, Harmony and Camilla are 16 years old. Me, Nerissa, Braylen and Leon are 15 now. Waverly and Gregg are both 8 and Em and Peyton are 2 years old. Dad is sick now too. But his affliction is of a broken heart. He doesn’t like to see mom so lifeless. He’s had to take on all the responsibilities of the house. Ethan moved in to help as much as he can. Now that we’re old enough, Pax, Camilla, Nerissa and I help out too. Pax cooks dinner, Camilla does laundry, Nerissa cleans up and I help dad with the kids.
Until death do us part, my parents promised each other. Even now under these tough circumstances I feel that love. But thinking about my parents always makes me think of Leon. I can’t help but wonder why he’s is gone, if we promised the same thing. Until death do us part, right? Even if his marriage proposal wasn’t one out of love, it still meant to me that he wanted to be by my side forever. I always have this thought in my mind. Where was Leon when I needed him the most?

Morgan was influenced by the church, rock music, and her grandmother’s poetry recitations. She acknowledges the influence of strong, devoted female teachers who cherished language and telegraphed the message that girls should be using their brains. An award-winning author, Morgan has published poetry, short fiction, and three novels. Time Travel is her first chapbook. These poems chart the elemental development of Morgan as a woman, a thinker and observer, and a poet. Morgan’s poetry is influenced by Richard Wilbur, Sharon Olds, Billy Collins, and Claudia Emerson. Cathryn Hankla is her creative mentor and guide. As writer-in-residence each summer at Nimrod Hall Summer Arts Program, Morgan works with writers in all stages of their careers.

RAC 'BOY'
Picture this: it is mid-June, and you are ready to stick your teeth into festival season. Friday morning; you and your mates have just woken up at your Airbnb; you overslept so breakfast is hasty (depending on country: a pop into Greggs, or Wendy’s). 10:30am. You have all congregated in your absurd festival attire. Applying the finishing touches (stars, glitter, etc.) you get your group pictures for your socials. You don’t even need to go to the festival at this point, you have enough proof. As you all squeeze in the car and clamour over the AUX cord, you decide on something you can all enjoy. Now. You are sad because it is 2020 and obviously none of this can happen. It is the worst feeling. However, there is one album primed to lift your spirits this summer, and it is courtesy of RAC. ‘BOY’ is the third solo album from André Allen Anjos, the Portuguese-American producer best known as RAC. Having built a following for his spirited remixes for artists like The Shins, Phoenix and Lana Del Rey, his transformation to a solo artist has been fruitful. Anjos has produced one album every three years since 2014, and ‘BOY’ is a highlight: a wide-ranging, yet focused record that many can, and will, enjoy. It is tinged in sun, community and guitar licks. ‘BOY’ perfectly embodies that intoxicating youthful promise of hope, rejection and intrigue. Speaking of the process behind his latest project, Anjos commented: “I was just writing and writing and writing. I wrote so many demos, and I kept coming back to this theme of childhood.” The complexity of the world through the eyes of The Youth is a common fixture across ‘BOY’. On ‘Sweater’, Maddie Jay dreamily sings of her lover: “It‘s been a while since someone else’s jokes have made me smile” opens the song. With its cooed chorus and breezy arrangement, it is a ridiculously sweet track. ‘Oakland’ finds Winnetka Bowling League singing about the need to move on to somewhere else on an equally bouncy beat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDc0S74IEz0 One of ‘BOY’’s biggest achievements is naturally encapsulating the perspective of a young person in 2020. As Anjos is 35, his teenage days are long behind him but ‘BOY’ is a body of work that can pass off as youthful. Lyrics like “Slim into some DM’s” and “They’ve all got their juul pods” appear on the album’s first proper track ‘Boomerang’. Lead single ‘Stuck on You’ features the line “I muted your ‘gram.” The bridge to ‘MIA’ goes: “Ever since you went MIA, I’ve been stuck in my bed all day, staring at my telephone screen, waiting for an SMS in your name.” You would not think at first glance this is music from someone 13 years into their career. It is only further helped by how entertaining these songs are. The former is a relatively low-key start. It is delightfully delicate; guitar flicks and carefully harmonised words create a sense of despondency above the pretty melody. ‘MIA’ is similarly despondent albeit very chirpy. Already geared for TikTok dominance with its overly performative vocals (“The fuck did I do?”), it is a really well fleshed out number. As for the aforementioned lead single, it is indeed a great single. Another sincere and heartfelt number, it is perfect to drive with the top down, after lockdown. RAC’s USP of guitar-inflected bops is what ties this project together. With a smattering of collaborators, his distinct sound anchors the narrative. ‘Next To You’, one of the album’s lesser moments, is spearheaded by a dominant riff. Emerson Leif’s feature is commendable, if only for having a more confrontational tone compared to the plethora of hushed dulcet voices. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csKxedk-KpA However a stand-out is ‘Passion’. Here, RAC works alongside Louis the Child, an electronic duo that have used the template of guitar-led EDM hits RAC laid out and taken it further. Together the two artists have chemistry in spades. With a chorus tempting you to join in (“Passion”, “Expression”, are stretched out, teasing a sing-along), it is a future festival favourite. With a daunting eighteen songs, you might be deterred from completion. However the final stretch picks it up. ‘Get A Life’ is so stupidly catchy. Instupendo softly moans over the dumbest of fun melodies whereas ‘Change the Story’ finds British neo-soul hero bringing his natural infectious energy into an organic bop. That is not to say this album is smooth sailing. As previously mentioned, eighteen songs is no walk in the park. Despite clocking in at forty-seven minutes (RAC’s shortest to date), there are eighteen tracks and not all of them can be winners. ‘Carefree’ is a shot in the foot; a song of such little interest that the terms ‘carefree’ and ‘thoughtless’ are interchangeable. Four of the eighteen are instrumental interludes which breeze by without notice. Stripping those away would tighten the record up and, at fourteen songs, would seem far more digestible. Saving one of the best to last, however, is ‘Better Days’. The third collaboration between RAC and St. Lucia, it is a cosy closer. Cinematic and nostalgic, it is a gorgeous slow-burner: school discos would be so lucky to employ this. Sure, this year is a festival-free nightmare but that does not mean you cannot pretend. RAC’s third record is his strongest so far; a relevant, slick sound with a kindred spirit. With some of his best writing and ever-improving production, it is a step in the right direction. ‘BOY’ might just make you nostalgic for something you never had.
