Story - summarized

In the doll kingdom at the museum, the guard of honor soldiers rehearse for Lilibet's upcoming inauguration as the kingdom's official Queen. All of them complete another successful training array.

Except Benjamin. He was created with a small heart that barely works with the winding key; the toy maker ran out of materials for Benjamin's design. Rather than include him with the others, the captain orders him to serve as a janitor for the palace. Benjamin doesn't mind as long as he can see the beautiful Queen Lilibet.

To everyone's surprise, Lilibet asks Benjamin to join the array, making a complete set of toy soldiers. He practices tirelessly to be perfect, but when he finally gets to perform, his slow movements and clanking sounds throw everyone off. The captain orders Benjamin to leave.

But no one can find him afterward. At first, no one cares that Benjamin disappeared - but then the captain of the guard of honor disappears, too. Everyone is concerned, but they leave the mystery alone and choose instead to focus on the upcoming inauguration.

The day comes, and Queen Lilibet is radiant as ever. And behind her, smiling and keeping guard, is Benjamin! He's back, and he looks better than ever... almost like he has a new toy heart.

The old captain is still missing, so Benjamin gets promoted to captain. And he becomes Lilibet's most loyal guard.

Connections

-Benjamin is the toy version of Nightbane. Also, in Vol. 1 Ch. 6, Nightbane pretends to be the host of the auction for Leonid's Manuscript, to steal it from Nikki. As the host, he went by the name Benjamin.

-When the guard Chestnut stands guard outside Lilibet's garden, he hears voices coming from inside. This is when Benjamin and Lilibet meet, in the Reflection Für Lilith.

-Also in Für Lilith, we learn that Lilibet has the power to steal other toys' talents and prized possessions through her charm alone. Since the old captain of the guard of honor never appears again, and Benjamin has new parts, it means Lilibet asked the captain to give up his toy heart to give to Benjamin.

-Tavi is the only other soldier to fall for royalty. During the hell event Sleeping Star of Eternity, he remembers his past life as a Knight to Princess Yesenia. And in Yesenia's Reflection, Shimmering Star, she reveals that Tavi was bullied a lot for being different - much like Benjamin was bullied for being different.

Fun Facts

-Benjamin's story is also similar to "The Steadfast Tin Soldier," about a tin soldier with a missing leg who protects the beautiful doll.

-So far, Shining Nikki has shown and dealt with mental disabilities, like Yuka's DID or Qin Yi's and Ashley's PTSD. Benjamin is the first to have a physical disability.

So i know we all like to hc that legolas knew at least aragorn before the quest, or the elves of imlardis.

But honestly, au in which legolas is genuinely just some random elf that showed up to deliver a message, was roped into the council and saw the most amazing oppurtunity to fuck with everyone and took the elf spot in the party?

Like, no-one knows who tf he is, he’s just a messenger (no one knows he’s thranduil’s son) and elrond gave him a seat at the council out of indulgence. And then this one motherfucker no one knows ends up joining one of, if not the most, important quest in ME.

Legolas, knowing damn well no one’s got a clue who tf he is: hold on, i sense an opportunity to do the funniest shit ever.

And after he volunteered himself, it’s not like elrond can just go: no, wait a minute.

Legolas has got the audacity. He’s sensing all the imlardis elves’ daggers in their eyes and is full on cackling in his head.

They are having a horrible time and legolas is thriving!

Chapter 4: Wish Fulfilled

Narrated by Chestnut.

Narrator: With the Queen's inauguration just around the corner, our training goes up a notch. Thoughts about the attendant don't occur to me again... until the Queen's inauguration day, that is.

Narrator: With all eyes on him, Benjamin walks out from behind the Queen a totally different man. He plants a faithful kiss on the back of the Queen's hand and carries himself tall as he walks towards the guard of honor.

Narrator: Benjamin reappears as suddenly as he disappeared before... without any notice whatsoever.

Narrator: In a sleek suit and holding a beautiful conducting baton in hand, he stands before the array as per the Queen's request.

Narrator: With the new winder on his back, Benjamin looks absolutely dazzling in the sunlight as everyone looks over at him with reverence and envy.

Narrator: Benjamin's physique now reminds me of the Queen's attendant that I saw a few days ago. When the performance is over, I go up to Benjamin, ready to shower him with questions.

Chestnut: Benjamin, where did you go? Did you have your winder fixed?

Narrator: Benjamin has his eyes fully locked on the Queen now, his eyes shining in a way I can't begin to understand.

Benjamin: It's a secret.

Narrator: He looks at me with an eerie smile on his face, his words sounding tantalizing yet carrying a hint of danger.

Benjamin: Do you really want to know?

Narrator: When I shake my head, Benjamin shrugs in regret and returns his gaze to the Queen without taking further heed of it.

Choose either "It has to do with the Queen" or "Stop asking. You don't want to know..."

You: Benjamin came back a changed man, but does it have to do with the Queen?

You: I guess some things in this world are better left unknown...

Narrator: I agree. It doesn't seem like something I should concern myself with, so I will just leave it at that...

Narrator: The strange conversation I overheard from the garden, the Guard's Captain's disappearance, the Queen's speaking gently to me, and Benjamin's reappearance... I try to shake all these thoughts off my head.

Narrator: Anyhow, I still feel somewhat happy for Benjamin, seeing the way he is now. His fervent love for the Queen has finally paid off, and he's now the Queen's most trusted person.

Narrator: Then, the sound of the camera shutter interrupts my thoughts.

Narrator: It's then that I see a photographer standing next to Benjamin. The photographer keeps bobbing the camera's lens, and the Queen keeps looking over this way.

Narrator: Captain has told us that where Benjamin and I are standing now would be the best position from which to take pictures of the Queen. I work up my courage and nudge Benjamin.

Chestnut: You need to move. You're blocking the camera.

Benjamin: Shh! Quiet! The Queen is looking at me... My, will you just look at that gentle, pure smile!

Chestnut! She isn't exactly...

Narrator: The people around us suddenly burst into applause, which drowns out what I was going to say. Then, we see the Queen making her way to us.

Narrator: I lower my head and step aside into the crowd for her to stand in the camera's way. Benjamin, on the other hand, remains motionless, his eyes flashing with morbid obsession.

Benjamin: My beautiful, benevolent Queen, you've come to see me.

Narrator: The Queen looks dumbfounded, but for just a split second. She quickly breaks into a perfect smile to the camera and holds out her hand.

Lilibet: Of course, my dear guards. Your loyalty and contribution deserve the highest degree of recognition.

Narrator: The Queen's words trickle into our ears like honey. Amid the non-stop applause, the photographer takes a picture of this very moment.

Narrator: Benjamin is officially appointed the guard of honor's captain following the Queen's inauguration.

Narrator: Nobody knows what happened to Benjamin when he was gone. Sometimes, he seems like a totally different person to me with his physique and proper gait.

Narrator: But at times, I find him to be the same old Benjamin we knew... especially when it has to do with the Queen.

Narrator: Whenever there is a training session, he will always come to show us the picture of when the Queen went to speak directly to him.

Narrator: With her sweet smile on her face, the Queen appears to be extending a lovely invitation with her hand held out.

Narrator: The person standing across from her, however, only has half of his arm and a white glove shown in the picture.

Narrator: The arm and white glove seem like Benjamin's but then again it could be anyone else's.
