Summary:

On a stag do in sunny Brighton with the Gryffindor lads, the last person Harry expects to run into is Draco Malfoy. After a glimpse of Malfoy’s Muggle life in Britain’s gay capital, Harry’s curiosity gets the better of him and he finds himself returning to the seaside again and again, drawn to the city, drawn to this new version of Malfoy that Harry barely recognises from school.

Meanwhile, Draco’s just trying to live his big and best queer life: working for the weekend, chasing hot men, getting lost in Brighton's nightlife, and making friends with the neighbourhood cats. Why does his former school rival and crush have to show up and spoil everything?

The room is hot; Draco doesn’t normally sleep in his clothes like this.

He thinks of what Potter told him, that he normally sleeps in his pants at home, and he wonders if —

—a sudden cool touch swipes across Draco’s forehead, breaking Draco’s sluggish train of thought. It moves slowly, Potter’s arm momentarily blocking the hazy morning light shining in from the window above their heads.

Draco looks up. 

Potter is staring at him across the pillows, his inky black lashes low, his face sleep-soft. His fingers are ticklish, careful, and when they find Draco’s scar, Draco holds his breath.

Potter runs the pad of his thumb from the point of Draco’s chin to the inch just below Draco’s nose where the scar ends; he follows the path, over and over, warmth and shame and hurt swirling deep in the pit of Draco’s stomach. 

Draco opens his mouth but no words come out. 

Potter’s thumb dips to touch the most sensitive, fragile part of Draco’s throat, his fingers splaying across Draco’s jaw, and he says, his voice rough, “I’m sorry—”

—and Draco says, “Don’t—”

—but Potter says “I’m sorry,” again, and Draco kisses him.

He presses into Potter’s space to do it, pushing a hand roughly into Potter’s wild, dark curls, hooking his thumb onto the hinge of Potter’s sharp jaw. Potter’s mouth opens readily, and it’s hot, so hot, and Draco doesn’t care that he tastes like last night’s wine, he doesn’t care that his own body is grotty and unwashed in yesterday’s clothes, because all that matters is the heat of Potter’s mouth and the swipe of his tongue and the immediate arch of his hard, willing body against Draco’s when he kisses him back roughly, moaning from the deepest part of his chest, hands gripping Draco’s arms—

Bzzz. Beep. Bzzz. Beep.

Potter pulls back, breathless, blinking.

Draco’s lips sting from the scrape of Potter’s beard, his heart hammering hard in his chest, the heat between his legs throbbing.

“What—” he mutters, but Potter’s already sitting, patting his hands wildly around the bedding until he finds it: his phone.

“Shit,” Potter says, rubbing his eyes, pushing his glasses on, peering at the screen. He groans. “Shit, I—Draco, I’m sorry,” he says. He looks at Draco sheepishly. “I kind of have to go. Like right now.”

Draco sits up quickly. He ignores the rush of blood, the sicky feeling in the back of his throat. “Go? Go where?”

“Home. London. I’ve—shit,” Potter mutters, climbing awkwardly out of bed, hopping around to find his shoes. He won’t meet Draco’s eyes. “I’ve messed something up and I have to go.”

“Er—alright,” Draco says, swallowing.

“Everything’s paid for,” Potter reminds him.

“I’m not worried about that,” Draco snaps.

“No—I… I know. I’m sorry,” Potter babbles, running a hand through his messy hair. He shoulders his rucksack. Grips his wand in hand and hobbles to the bed. “I’ll text you, alright?” he murmurs, leaning over Draco. He presses a quick peck to Draco’s lips, then another longer, lingering kiss, and with that, he Disapparates, vanishing from the room with a soft pop.

Draco flops back onto the pillows, head spinning, skin burning with flush. He closes his eyes.

“Fuck.”

So I don't know how people on this app feel about the shit-house that is TikTok but in the US right now the ban they're trying to implement on it is a complete red herring and it needs to be stopped.

They are quite literally trying to implement Patriot Act 2.0 with the RESTRICT Act and using TikTok and China to scare the American public into buying into it wholesale when this shit will change the face of the internet. Here are some excerpts from what the bill would cover on the Infrastructure side:

SEC. 5. Considerations.

(a) Priority information and communications technology areas.—In carrying out sections 3 and 4, the Secretary shall prioritize evaluation of— (1) information and communications technology products or services used by a party to a covered transaction in a sector designated as critical infrastructure in Policy Directive 21 (February 12, 2013; relating to critical infrastructure security and resilience);

(2) software, hardware, or any other product or service integral to telecommunications products and services, including— (A) wireless local area networks;

(B) mobile networks;

(C) satellite payloads;

(D) satellite operations and control;

(E) cable access points;

(F) wireline access points;

(G) core networking systems;

(H) long-, short-, and back-haul networks; or

(I) edge computer platforms;

(3) any software, hardware, or any other product or service integral to data hosting or computing service that uses, processes, or retains, or is expected to use, process, or retain, sensitive personal data with respect to greater than 1,000,000 persons in the United States at any point during the year period preceding the date on which the covered transaction is referred to the Secretary for review or the Secretary initiates review of the covered transaction, including— (A) internet hosting services;

(B) cloud-based or distributed computing and data storage;

(C) machine learning, predictive analytics, and data science products and services, including those involving the provision of services to assist a party utilize, manage, or maintain open-source software;

(D) managed services; and

(E) content delivery services;

(4) internet- or network-enabled sensors, webcams, end-point surveillance or monitoring devices, modems and home networking devices if greater than 1,000,000 units have been sold to persons in the United States at any point during the year period preceding the date on which the covered transaction is referred to the Secretary for review or the Secretary initiates review of the covered transaction;

(5) unmanned vehicles, including drones and other aerials systems, autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicles, or any other product or service integral to the provision, maintenance, or management of such products or services;

(6) software designed or used primarily for connecting with and communicating via the internet that is in use by greater than 1,000,000 persons in the United States at any point during the year period preceding the date on which the covered transaction is referred to the Secretary for review or the Secretary initiates review of the covered transaction, including— (A) desktop applications;

(B) mobile applications;

(C) gaming applications;

(D) payment applications; or

(E) web-based applications; or

(7) information and communications technology products and services integral to— (A) artificial intelligence and machine learning;

(B) quantum key distribution;

(C) quantum communications;

(D) quantum computing;

(E) post-quantum cryptography;

(F) autonomous systems;

(G) advanced robotics;

(H) biotechnology;

(I) synthetic biology;

(J) computational biology; and

(K) e-commerce technology and services, including any electronic techniques for accomplishing business transactions, online retail, internet-enabled logistics, internet-enabled payment technology, and online marketplaces.

(b) Considerations relating to undue and unacceptable risks.—In determining whether a covered transaction poses an undue or unacceptable risk under section 3(a) or 4(a), the Secretary— (1) shall, as the Secretary determines appropriate and in consultation with appropriate agency heads, consider, where available— (A) any removal or exclusion order issued by the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Secretary of Defense, or the Director of National Intelligence pursuant to recommendations of the Federal Acquisition Security Council pursuant to section 1323 of title 41, United States Code;

(B) any order or license revocation issued by the Federal Communications Commission with respect to a transacting party, or any consent decree imposed by the Federal Trade Commission with respect to a transacting party;

(C) any relevant provision of the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation and the Federal Acquisition Regulation, and the respective supplements to those regulations;

(D) any actual or potential threats to the execution of a national critical function identified by the Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency;

(E) the nature, degree, and likelihood of consequence to the public and private sectors of the United States that would occur if vulnerabilities of the information and communications technologies services supply chain were to be exploited; and

(F) any other source of information that the Secretary determines appropriate; and

(2) may consider, where available, any relevant threat assessment or report prepared by the Director of National Intelligence completed or conducted at the request of the Secretary.

Look at that, does that look like it just covers the one app? NO! This would cover EVERYTHING that so much as LOOKS at the internet from the point this bill goes live.

It gets worse though, you wanna see what the penalties are?

(b) Civil penalties.—The Secretary may impose the following civil penalties on a person for each violation by that person of this Act or any regulation, order, direction, mitigation measure, prohibition, or other authorization issued under this Act: (1) A fine of not more than $250,000 or an amount that is twice the value of the transaction that is the basis of the violation with respect to which the penalty is imposed, whichever is greater. (2) Revocation of any mitigation measure or authorization issued under this Act to the person. (c) Criminal penalties.— (1) IN GENERAL.—A person who willfully commits, willfully attempts to commit, or willfully conspires to commit, or aids or abets in the commission of an unlawful act described in subsection (a) shall, upon conviction, be fined not more than $1,000,000, or if a natural person, may be imprisoned for not more than 20 years, or both. (2) CIVIL FORFEITURE.— (A) FORFEITURE.— (i) IN GENERAL.—Any property, real or personal, tangible or intangible, used or intended to be used, in any manner, to commit or facilitate a violation or attempted violation described in paragraph (1) shall be subject to forfeiture to the United States. (ii) PROCEEDS.—Any property, real or personal, tangible or intangible, constituting or traceable to the gross proceeds taken, obtained, or retained, in connection with or as a result of a violation or attempted violation described in paragraph (1) shall be subject to forfeiture to the United States. (B) PROCEDURE.—Seizures and forfeitures under this subsection shall be governed by the provisions of chapter 46 of title 18, United States Code, relating to civil forfeitures, except that such duties as are imposed on the Secretary of Treasury under the customs laws described in section 981(d) of title 18, United States Code, shall be performed by such officers, agents, and other persons as may be designated for that purpose by the Secretary of Homeland Security or the Attorney General. (3) CRIMINAL FORFEITURE.— (A) FORFEITURE.—Any person who is convicted under paragraph (1) shall, in addition to any other penalty, forfeit to the United States— (i) any property, real or personal, tangible or intangible, used or intended to be used, in any manner, to commit or facilitate the violation or attempted violation of paragraph (1); and (ii) any property, real or personal, tangible or intangible, constituting or traceable to the gross proceeds taken, obtained, or retained, in connection with or as a result of the violation. (B) PROCEDURE.—The criminal forfeiture of property under this paragraph, including any seizure and disposition of the property, and any related judicial proceeding, shall be governed by the provisions of section 413 of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 853), except subsections (a) and (d) of that section.

You read that right, you could be fined up to A MILLION FUCKING DOLLARS for knowingly violating the restrict act, so all those people telling you to "just use a VPN" to keep using TikTok? Guess what? That falls under the criminal guidelines of this bill and they're giving you some horrible fucking advice.

Also, VPN's as a whole, if this bill passes, will take a goddamn nose dive in this country because they are another thing that will be covered in this bill.

They chose the perfect name for it, RESTRICT, because that's what it's going to do to our freedoms in this so called "land of the free".

Please, if you are a United States citizen of voting age reach out to your legislature and tell them you do not want this to pass and you will vote against them in the next primary if it does. This is a make or break moment for you if you're younger. Do not allow your generation to suffer a second Patriot Act like those of us that unfortunately allowed for the first one to happen.

And if you support this, I can only assume you're delusional or a paid shill, either way I hope you rot in whatever hell you believe in.

Renegade Binderary 2 of 3: Kept in Cages by @sweet-s0rr0w and @ihopeyoubothstaysafefromharm

Deep in the heart of the Ministry lies the Beast Division: a hidden room where ancient beasts roam, and winged creatures soar, and grumpy giant ferrets eat all your biscuits unless you keep them well hidden. Draco Malfoy would know – he’s been working there for five years now, after all.

Meanwhile, on Level One, ex-Golden Boy Harry Potter is stuck in another interminable policy meeting, completely unaware of the mysterious comings and goings just three floors below. But when a giant snake emergency requires the assistance of a Parselmouth, Harry finds himself thrust, unprepared, into Draco’s weird and wonderful world – and naturally, he can’t keep away…

In this fic, Sweet and Joy wove an incredibly hopeful and gracious journey of healing for both Harry and Draco against a lush backdrop of magical creatures & friends. I am so happy to have bound this fic for Sweet and me. I bound this as a part of Renegade’s Binderary 2023 (where we challenge ourselves to make as many books as we can). I specifically focused on some of my favorite fics published in 2022 that I hadn’t already bound :)

I was quite burnt out of writing & reading fic at the end of H/D Wireless 2022 and so I slept on this fic for months and SHAME ON ME! It took me until December to read it and I was just blown away by the world that Joy and Sweet built together. I had this two-toned blue/green bookcloth, knew I wanted to have a cut-out, found this gorgeous William Morris tapestry, and boom, the design was born. I also want to say that Joy’s gorgeous illustrations & Sweet’s beautiful words were so evocative that designing & typesetting this was a breeze; if you have any doubt, see how @a-gay-old-time (who did such an amazing bind of this here) and I came to very similar design choices independently :)

I also used text from @sitp-recs' rec here and @getawayfox's rec here at the front of the book, which I would love to start doing for all of my binds.

I learned a ton of stuff that is totally boring to a non-fanbinder, but was huge for me: footnotes, full page illustrations, double French-core endbands (still need some refinement, but I am so happy to be able to use more than two colors!), cut-outs!! Some technical challenges of this bind: getting the cut-out exactly in the right spot, using a guillotine for the first time & having some pretty tight margins as a result, painting on Duo bookcloth (the texture makes it really tough!), but I'm still so happy with this bind. I also have to acknowledge @pleasantboatpress who inspired both the headbands and the cut-out with their absolutely gorgeous binds.

Hello there!

I've always wanted to start sharing fics that I like, but creating a whole list feels like such a mountain to climb over. So, I've decided to go through my June bookmarks and recommend the fics that really stood out to me. I do not have a talent for describing how fics make me feel (evidenced by the amount of people who've seen me growling in their bookmarks), but I hope I'm able to tell you just how much I liked these fics this month.

How I Met Your Father M, 95k by @dracogotgame for H/D Smoochfest

As an obsessive rewatcher of How I Met Your Mother, this fic gave me literally everything I needed and more. The characters matched their show counterparts so so so well, while still feeling like the classic HP characters we know and love (from fanon, of course.) Draco's journey in this fic was charming, and watching Harry grow and find himself was such a joy to experience. If you like How I Met Your Mother, then this fic will make you squeal. When worlds collide etc.

An Emerald In The Sky M, 6.6k by @corvuscrowned for @hd-wireless 2022

I read this in its entirety while waiting in line for a corn dog at a theme park, then proceeded to order my corn dog through tears. I don't usually cry when I read fics, but this one broke me and put me back together in the span of about fifteen minutes. I loved watching these two continually find their way back to each other, and Draco's voice in this made me absolutely fall in love with him. I'm also a sucker for time travel fics, so this was a treat.

The Dying of the Light E, 20k by @chamomileteafuel for @lcdrarry 2023

I love Harry in this fic. Watching him grow to accept his situation, along with the people around him, was a great experience. I'm a big fan of right person, wrong time fics and this gave me exactly what I needed. Even if that second chance came in the (kinda)afterlife.

That Old Black Magic E, 77k by @carpemermaid for @hdtropes 2019

This fic was heart-wrenching. When I think of fuck-or-die, this is what I will think of from now on. The stakes were high as all hell, and they remained high throughout the entire story. The shaky requirements of their situation gave this a tension that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The epilogue was hilarious and satisfying, and I wish for the life of me that I could read this for the first time again.

When Times are Dire E, 130k by @aibidil

I don't know why I put off reading this fic for so long. Maybe because every single fic I've read by aibidil has been an absolute treasure, and I like to lengthen the amount of time between readings, really savor these works. But, GOD, reading this was such a wonderful time for me. Once upon a time, I was a political science major, and this scratched a very specific itch I have for Wizarding politics and politics in general. The kids' personalities were all so charming, and I loved the family dynamics present here. Aibidil really put these two grandpas in a situation, and it was so satisfying to watch them work through it, along with their long-standing inner struggles.

Another gorgeous day in the PNW! It really does feel like summer here now. Daughter has no Covid symptoms as of yet but is still positive. Her boyfriend is sick but only mildly. He's had it before and said last time he was out for 2 weeks and it was horrible. Fingers remained cross.

What I'm reading:

Okay, I'm in shock. I'm not reading anything at the moment besides the results for Google research I'm doing for my fic. LOL I do have a fic lined up for tonight. It will be Everybody Hates a Tourist (51K). The 2nd posting today for @hd-wireless so it's by Anon. :)

I've recced this fic before on Tumblr, but it was awhile ago and I think I might have had 20 or so followers at the time. :) So I keep saying this fic is in my top 3 and I should stop that because it's actually my favorite h/d fic. I love so many others, but this one has stuck with me since it was first posted as a gift for me back in 2008 for the first annual Creatures Fest. It could've fit right into the @lcdrarry (Lights, Camera, Drarry) fest as some of Harry's words and the title were adapted from the movie I Am Legend (2007).

We Are Legend (38K) by @vaysh11 is very far removed from standard h/d fics but holds their essence like no other. It's a dystopian AU fic, the ultimate dystopian fic, 80 years into the future. The war against Voldemort is still being fought. There's been major major losses but Flash Man carries on. Here's the summary and then I'll say a bit more: Eighty years into the future, Voldemort won. Harry Potter is a renegade wizard, Portkeying Muggles out of London to Hogwarts, last sanctuary in a Britain ruled by the Dark Lord. On a mission he encounters a powerful phoenix Animagus fighting on the Death Eaters' side. He recognises Draco Malfoy whom he thought long dead. But the differences between them are perhaps even greater than before. Enemies may become lovers, but can Harry return Draco the phoenix to humanity? And will they together be able to defeat Voldemort? This is the legend of Flash Man and the Blue Phoenix …

This fic carries a big warning of MCD. But please, oh please do not let that stop you from reading this masterpiece in writing. There's action, there's lore, there's Indian food, and birds. But most of all we have h/d in small place high above it all. Harry is our Harry. Brave and powerful but also kind. Draco is beautiful but so so hurt in the state he's in. Together they have to figure out how to end this war and for Draco finally to be at peace.

”You’ve smelled my hoodies?” Draco opened his mouth, horrified, but Potter simply laughed. “I looked in your shower and sniffed your shampoo once. Potter stopped and stared, and then he lunged.

Day Twelve: Waking Up Slow by @sweet-s0rr0w and @ihopeyoubothstaysafefromharm (Drarry, H/D Wireless Fest, rated E, 22K)

Summary: 'Twas the night before Christmas, although it’s July Draco’s a shopkeeper, no-one knows why There’s hiking and witch caves, freak snowfalls and more Bad Christmas jumpers, nosy neighbours galore Narcissa’s here too, but… something’s amiss And what’s in those chocolates that’s making them kiss?

The first word that comes to mind while reading this fic is charming. First there’s the novel setting: a Christmas shop in the tourist destination of Cheddar Gorge, in the middle of a July heatwave. Next, there’s the shop itself, so imaginatively described and full to the brim with clever Muggle and magical details. Then there are the delightful OCs, Draco’s seemingly unhinged enthusiasm for all things Christmas (including ridiculous jumpers), and Harry’s complete disregard for professional behavior. But underneath the playful banter and humor, there’s also a layer of poignancy to tug at the heartstrings, especially when we find out the backstories behind Harry’s and Draco’s unlikely careers. And to top it all off, like the glowing star on the tree, are Joy’s exuberant, colorful illustrations. This is a Christmas-y fic I’d reread any time of the year.

"Potter," comes the crisp voice, easily recognisable as Draco. "You do know that most sane people, especially those who spend every waking moment complaining of being cold, would cast a warming charm. Or at the very least grab a sweater. Not spend every night attempting to turn into an icicle." What makes someone a ghost? Because if it's dying, Harry's got that covered.

A beautiful exploration of Harry’s demons in eighth year & how Draco can help exorcise them. How do I know I'm not a ghost? just punched me the solar plexus, so beautiful and so awful for Harry, and how tenderly Draco treats him, while still being Draco. One of the two masterclasses in short fic on this list! How MA says so much in so few words—I’m in awe.

Harry Potter’s life is going well in the aftermath of the war. Sure, his house is dark and run-down and might hate him (while his house elf definitely hates him). But other than that, things are good. Except, yeah, okay, Hermione and Ron are no longer on speaking terms. Worse, they keep trying to get Harry to pick sides. But otherwise, Harry couldn’t be happier. Well. Except for the fact that Ginny is being super weird about their relationship and never wants to have sex or talk about the future. But other than that, Harry is perfectly fine, thankyouverymuch. At least, he is until Draco Malfoy sues him for ownership of Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place. Then Harry really isn’t fine at all.

This fic is FUNNY. Harry is such a wally, so perfectly in-character as our awkward, repressed, depressed, hilarious little cinnamon roll (and Draco is so proud and petty and desperate for Harry too). The romance is so well-deserved by both, and we love a Harry-realizing-his-sexuality fic (SO well-done here—the tension is scorching!). 

Everybody Hates a Tourist by anon (51.5k, E)

On a stag do in sunny Brighton with the Gryffindor lads, the last person Harry expects to run into is Draco Malfoy. After a glimpse of Malfoy’s Muggle life in Britain’s gay capital, Harry’s curiosity gets the better of him and he finds himself returning to the seaside again and again, drawn to the city, drawn to this new version of Malfoy that Harry barely recognises from school. Meanwhile, Draco’s just trying to live his big and best queer life: working for the weekend, chasing hot men, getting lost in Brighton's nightlife, and making friends with the neighbourhood cats. Why does his former school rival and crush have to show up and spoil everything?

An absolute banger on the first day of the fest. Come for the absolutely perfect characterization of Harry & Draco, stay for the lush descriptions of Brighton and EVERYWHERE. The perfect start-of-summer fic, absolutely impeccable, gentle, gorgeous summer vibes (conveniently when where I live FINALLY started getting hot). So many elements to love here: Harry learning about himself, gently and with grace from everyone around him, the TEXTING (absolutely perfect), the side characters with perfect characterization (Seamus at the hotel!), the flirting, DRACO BUYING HARRY A LEATHER JACKET (;_;). Just bury me dead; this fic was so lovely & it’s all I need.

Eighth year will forever have my heart for some angsty healing, and MA has captured this so beautifully. This art is not only beautiful (the animations! the color palette! both Harry & Draco! Idk how to compliment art!), but it’s such a gorgeous journey for Harry—from the trauma of the war towards happiness again. Exactly what our darling boy deserves <3
