teen wolf genre theory:
where riverdalian genre theory is based around the characters teen wolf genre theory focuses on the seasons. it is my belief that every distinct season of the show embodies and utilizes its own horror subgenre
season 1 is a classic monster horror. there's something big and dangerous out there and it's up to the protagonists to figure out a way to fight back against it.
season 2 can also be regarded as monster horror but i see it more so as possession horror. it's not possession in the usual demonic way but instead matt taking control of and essentially becoming the second occupant of jackson's body.
season 3a is folk horror. it's human sacrifices and dark rituals. it's the protagonists trying to catch up with the perpetrator in a desperate attempt to stop the killings from continuing.
season 3b falls into psychological horror. stiles is fighting against this inhuman entity taking over his body and mind. this season also features noticeably less gore and body horror than other seasons and instead plays on the emotional beats more. even the viewer grows distrustful of stiles by the end of the season never sure when he's actually in control.
season 4 is slasher horror. it has been subverted though so instead of a single killer taking on the characters of the story it's a lineup and various assassins all with their own gimmicks.
both season 5a and 5b are true body horror. body horror is seen all throughout the show, particularly to show characters losing their agency, but in season 5 it gets pushed to extremes. it's medical experiments performed on teenagers who have no memories of this even happening to them. also 5b can definitely be read as another monster horror season but the monster is created through the use of medical intervention and therefore i do believe it does fit into the body horror subgenre.
season 6a is a ghost story. hear me out it might sound a bit farfetched but stiles serves as the ghost in this season. it's a subversion of classic ghost stories, it's not the presence that becomes the haunting but instead the lack of a presence. the characters all feel this grief and loss they have nowhere to put down and explain everywhere they turn they see remnants of this person whom they have no idea even exists. also claudia definitely counts as a kind of phantom if you wanna take the easy way out.
season 6b is a little harder to place but i believe it's either cosmic horror or apocalyptic horror depending on how you chose to understand the story. if you see the anuk-ite as the main antagonist it becomes cosmic horror, there's this infinitely old entity that's been trapped in the wild hunt suddenly let out. some of the hallmarks of cosmic horror are madness, inevitability, and non human interference on human beings, all of which are seen as the anuk-ite takes hold of the people of beacon hills. but if you see the hunters as the main antagonists of the story it transforms into apocalyptic horror, it's not the end of the world at large but instead the end of the world as the characters know it. they've been exposed to the public who are now taking up arms against them and they must learn to adapt and survive in a society that wants them all dead.
(also before any of you say i just saw the riverdale genre theory and decided i had to make it work for teen wolf just know i explained this entire thing to su like a month before i even heard of the riverdale genre theory. this all came out of my noggin.)

I have gone back and fourth at boring you guys with this but its bugging me. Let me preface I am a straight women married to a man, guilty pleasures are romance novels, Hallmark movies and pumpkin spice. Basically I am as basic as it comes lol. But I'm throwing that out there for my point. I was deeply unsatisfied with 5A, alot was wrong with it, mostly everyone hitting each other and threatening violence. However Buddie was low on the list for me and here is my headro take.
Eddie is easy the man is clearly repressed. I was disappointed when Anna appeared because it was like great they crafted the perfect women for Eddie there goes my ship. FACTS, she obviously pretty (mentioned many times), she's Latina, (Eddies culture and religion is always referenced and a bedrock for him), she's a teacher, gentle and soft. Yet boom after dating at least a year he's like see ya. The idea of this women literally makes him panic.
Buck, his common theme is someone just picks him and he doesn't get left behind. Taylor cleared all the Abby and Allie hurdles. He has someone now. Even back during the lawsuit Hen pointed out who does he have outside of here. Well he has Taylor now, so in a typical M/W storyline problem solved. He can be bummed about Eddie quiting but it wouldn't be this big conflict. You can even compare it to the fact Hen is coping fine without Chim and Chim knows Hen will be leaving for med school soon.
Also that ILY scene was not ispiring. She was so joyful saying it and he was resigned. It almost reminded me that Abby was to Buck, as Eddie was to Anna has come full circle to Bucky is to Taylor. I feel like the talk he with Eddie will come back when Eddie lecfures him.
I would have loved to go into hiatus with them canon just cause I have waited forever but I would honestly be shocked if it's not canon by the end of 5B because none of this story telling is typical straight romance writing at all.
Hi Nonnie! Sending your thoughts in is never boring! :D
I kind of LOVE that Ana was on paper the perfect woman for Eddie. Real TV characters are never perfect, they're always flawed in some way, so when we get a "perfect" Love Interest, it's usually to make a point, it's to allow a protagonist to go, "that person seemed perfect, and yet I choose YOU. Love isn't a grocery list of the 'right' traits, and I choose you over anyone else, even over the 'perfect' person, because I love you." Just imagine when Eddie gets to realize that in regards to Buck! Or what that would mean to Buck, who's never felt like he's chosen or wanted... I AM DYING JUST THINKING ABOUT IT.
And yes, Taylor has stuck around and gotten further than either Abby or Ali, but she's clearly still not 'it' for Buck, just the way that ILY exchange went shows that.
IDK what we will get in season 5b, I'm hoping for good things because everything seems to align in that direction, but I have to admit, I'm not convinced we have been waiting forever for Buddie. Eddie only joined the show in s2, and we're only half way through s5. I was just reminded of a ship I loved from the start, that finally got together this year after I waited for them to for 8 (!) seasons, I went through one of them not just dating, but marrying and having a kid with another person, and all of this only for my ship to finally get together and then be killed off in the very same season (yes, it's that kind of show where almost everyone gets killed sooner or later). I am not joking when I say that the Buddie wait game is nothing in comparison with some of my battle scars... *does the 911 scar comparing scene, just with ships* My point is, endgame couples can and do take their time, even if Buddie doesn't go canon in s5, it doesn't mean they won't at some point. And because 911 is a far more kind-hearted show than the average, I have faith!
I hope that's a comforting thing to hear and thank you for the ask, I hope my reply helped! xoxox
To anyone else who sent me an ask, I am going through all of them, thank you so much for your patience! If you wanna check whether I've replied to yours yet, you can have a look at my ask tag. xoxox

Eliksni Healer Headcannon's
I have a new favorite OC who I've decided is an Eliksni Healer, and because of that I am now obsessively coming up with some idea's that make sense to //me// in my world building.
Enjoy!
1.) Healers need all four arms. So while you can be a dreg while you train, when you graduate to "healer" you are promoted to Vandal.
2.) When you graduate it is widely expected (although not enforced) that you either file down or completely remove the claws on your hands. Basically like declawing a cat, the bone is filed down and then covered over with skin. This is to help manipulate the more delicate instruments of their trade like for surgeries and such. And help with touch/being able to prod and poke a patient to find out their ailment.
2a.) It is also a sign of status and considered the hallmark of a dedicated healer. Someone who doesn't just dabble, but has devoted their whole life to "healing".
2b.) This also shows how the healer has devoted themselves to healing instead of harming. Obviously, a healer who's part of a crew and utilized by their captain as a field medic would still be allowed a pistol for self-protection, but if you "dock" your claws you are showing a very high degree of devotion to the preservation of life.
3.) It's considered, (much like in the military) to be it's own sect of the House. And much like Judgement a healer may be passed around to different houses to continue their training/as a commodity to be traded between kells for resources.
4.) Having a lot of healers in your house is considered a show of status for a Kell, in that they can support such luxury of having so many vandals and captains using ether, but not necessarily directly contributing.
4a.) It's regarded as bad form and frowned upon for a healer to go beyond the rank of Captain, this is due to the manual dexterity and being able to perform your duties as a healer. Example: A baron-sized eliksni trying to perform a micro surgery on a spine is laughable.
4b.) although there may be several captain ranked healers in one space, at that point they're rank is by experience/age/skill
5.) The majority of healers will be stationed with the Kell and distributed through the house as needed.
5a.) If a captain's crew creates a new healer, e.g a hatchling comes of age and decides that's their path; after their initial training they are most likely to be shipped back to the Kell and then redistributed to a crew that needs one.
5b.) Healers really like to travel to other houses/crews, especially if there's a healer there that specializes in something. It's very prestigious to be able to say, "Oh, yes, I trained under so-and-so in House Winter before they disbanded to Dusk."
6.) Being a healer has similar safety of being a Pilot, unless you have been given the unenviable job of being a field medic.
6a.) Most field medics are young/new healers who are basically being thrown into the deep end to earn their captaincy and therefore their place in the Kells main "Healer's Hut"
7.) If you're a healer for a crew who has had some hatchlings the traits you look for are, unparalleled memory, Excellent manual dexterity, kindness/gentleness, a strong constitution. When an eliksni is found who has these desirable traits, the healer (who generally has strong sway on matters) asks to take them as an apprentice.
7a.) Same as human's, it's considered very good to have your hatchling chosen to be a healer, and to be the captain who's crew spawned a healer.
7b.) A captain's crew will be compensated when the new healer is taken back to the main command of the Kell, and so it's something that is encouraged.

Lucifer 5B: Cutting off Touch to Spite Your Fans
Spoiler warning: This post assumes you've watched all of Lucifer, season 5, part B.
CW: There's plenty I like about season 5, but this is a negative post. I know not everyone is up for negativity about the things they love. I also generally avoid it and (try to) keep my mouth shut about things I don’t like in most spaces. It’s good etiquette. But this is my space, and I have thoughts specifically about purity culture and the treatment of sexuality and trauma in fiction. You’ve been warned!
---
I'm a professional writer (not in TV). I've worked with enough bad clients, editors, and other writers to recognize some hallmark behaviors in how both Fox and Netflix gave Lucifer's writers incredibly difficult, unfair, and frankly weird situations to create through.
Fox did them dirty, interfering and ordering too many eps in S3. Netflix did them dirty, ordering 10 eps for S4 when it clearly needed ~13. Then Netflix ordered 10 "final" eps for S5—then, just kidding(!), 6 more after they'd done their writing for the 10. (What the fuck?) And then Netflix ordered 10 more for a "final-final" S6 after the writers had done their best to tell their whole story in S5. (MORE what the fuck.)
Talk about whiplash for creators, and half of those who consume content don't even care to understand such creative pain.
So, there are problems on multiple fronts. There's much I'll forgive writers, accordingly. I go into most shows expecting plotting/pacing issues. I look, instead, for characters and relationships that will triumph over those issues.
Heart is what the show Lucifer has always had in spades, both in its characters and in the immensely committed, wonderful ways the actors have tried to realize the characters' humor, love, trauma, and—most importantly—struggle to find healing. Yet, when given the opportunity to show health alongside another in a relationship, the writers/directors of 5B chose to remove most sexual humor and physical intimacy from their female lead and bi/pan characters to, I feel, sanitize them and troll fans. What happened?
Well, for one, say hi to showrunner Joe Henderson bragging about how the writers decided to be colossal dicks to the fans who helped secure their jobs:
Tumblr media
From CBR's 'Lucifer Showrunner Joe Henderson Dissects Season 5B's Chaos'
Have we not suffered sidelined/repressed female characters, "bury your gays," and, oh, Chloe fucking a serial killer enough? Must we also say hello to neutered relationships once characters find stable love (whether same or opposite sex)? The result of withdrawing more sexual humor and physical intimacy from paired characters is an uncomfortable suggestion that they're reformed by "pure" love—more chaste and aloof, more acceptable in polite society. This is only done to end-game committed relationships.*
The writers seem to think they're edging the viewers, but the reality is they're taking traumatized minority characters who rejoiced in sexual freedom, but lacked and craved an emotional connection, and showing they can't have both, or, if they find both, it will never last. They've taken hypersexual characters and said, here, even they can have the love and commitment they desire, but some physical intimacy, especially sexual intimacy, is what they must trade for it.
There's always one more case, phone call, or coincidence interrupting intimacy. Traumas or deaths deserving emotional and physical comfort go on to receive none or only one aspect. Done sometimes, it's fine. Done always, it's sick. Dan dies, and there's no hugging? Really?†
Don't craft characters who crave a full range of emotional and physical intimacy, only to rob them of related scenes every chance you get. That's not complexity. That's bad writing. To even achieve this in 5B, they must squash banter and sideline their female lead yet again.
What a gift to purity culture, which tells us to be more palatable by bottling and buttoning up. That sex should be taboo, but violence glorified. That there is no heated desire among "Good Women," that sexual minorities of all genders shouldn't experience it much at all.
5A is so good. At the very least, it's on the right path (clearly, since the plot payoff from 5x01 to 5x16 is great). It shows a couple working through difficulties and trauma, toward each other emotionally and physically. It even pokes fun at people who think an established relationship means the death of romantic and sexual appeal (a tired and hugely sexist trope). And then... And then 5B reverses that, pretending established relationships are barely physical during emotional struggle and that the honeymoon phase doesn't exist. It robs characters of joy and comfort through physical intimacy when they need it to move through or push beyond trauma.
It's telling that so many fan wishes for Deckerstar are about healing touch and existing in each other's spaces: amending Chloe's spicy PDA history with Cain, Chloe caring for Lucifer's wings, soft family scenes a la Monopoly night and shared meals, morning-afters, etc. Reasonable fans aren't asking for porn; they're asking for connection and humanity. They're asking for writers not to forget characters (and, yes, including hypersexual characters) on their way from Point A to Point B.
That 5B lacks these things isn't a "tee-hee frustrating" slow burn or a cockblock. It is, in so many scenes, excising from characters a core part of what nearly every human and fictional monster craves. And it's a slap in the face to the "found family" trope. When you remove or tamp down a casual physical intimacy that was previously there, characters and their relationships fall flat, even if only partially. They become blunt weapons creators wield against watchers or readers begging for scraps of warmth.
Minorities shouldn't be killed off with ease, and they shouldn't be stifled with ease, either.‡ And maybe there shouldn't be deep trauma driving a wedge in a romantic relationship if you're not going to explore it through that relationship, too—physical intimacy included.
I'm still reserving some judgment. I loved the family drama and the end. (Although, again, where was the physical intimacy? No intimacy when Chloe or Lucifer return from the dead? Really?) I see where they could do awesome things, and could have done more if not for network BS.
But I no longer trust Lucifer's writers and directors. They thought S5 was the end. And what they gave us of Deckerstar, of the relationship that symbolizes health and healing in their fictional world, is this: cold distance. And they got a kick out of doing it, apparently.
If this is a "love letter" to me as a fan, I'm burning it. I can only hope S6 course corrects. If not, the writers who made these choices shouldn't write sexual minority and/or traumatized characters again. If you don't understand most of us, you should stop fucking using us.
---
* If you don't believe me about the differences between casual/short-term relationships and end-game relationships in Lucifer, go back and look at how Lucifer and Maze are with strangers in all the other seasons. Look at Chloe's sex dream, her propositioning of Lucifer in a library, her sex with Pierce in the evidence closet. Look at how much physical intimacy there is between Lucifer and Eve, and then between Eve and Maze (if only as a ploy). Across seasons, there are sex/kink jokes and scenes galore.
Compare this to how these same characters are portrayed when with their end-game loves. Notice the gentle pecks on the lips and the huge general drop in sexual humor between 5A and 5B. How boring. Where's the spice these characters had? Also, give me a damn break. Buttoning up in a relationship is contrary to four and a half seasons of emotional character work that's been communicating security in our relationships is personally freeing.
† I'm not just talking about sexual intimacy in this post, though that is a big part of it because of the characters. 5B lacked crucial found family scenes, too.
Chloe should have been at God's family dinner, but being so would have prevented more ham-fisted angst. Chloe never even has a one-on-one with God, probably because that would demand a straight answer about her miracle status, which I would guess will be used to drive yet another wedge between her and Lucifer next season, but we'll see.
In multiple before- and after-work scenes, there was no reason for Lucifer and Chloe to be apart more, even, than they were in S1 and S2. Monopoly night was in S3, for crying out loud. Most horrifying of all? No one touches Chloe after Dan's death, but Trixie. Meanwhile, Linda, Amenadiel, Ella, Maze, and Lucifer all receive physical comfort. No wonder Chloe's tired of being strong.
‡ If you don't think it's offensive that they stuffed all their wlw content for two hypersexual characters into a few clunky, irrational, and chaste scenes that rushed I love yous, a marriage-like proposal, and the mention of soulmates, I don't know what to tell you other than get off my lawn.

WIPs Name Game
Rules: I post the names of all the files in my WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Send me an ask with the title that most intrigues you and interests you and I’ll post a little snippet of it or tell you something about it!

31) “One More” 5 part Modern AU
32) “All the Right Moves” (CS as dancers Modern AU)  This actually has a big chunk of it written and has been LONG-OWED to the incredibly kind and patient @revanmeetra87, but I just don’t seem to progress on it very fast!
33) “If This is the Last” Emma and Killian friends post-college age in real world Boston Modern AU
34) EF Arranged Marriage AU (probably mid-length chaptered fic)

36) Western Rio Bravo-style chaptered fic
** Okay, see, I warned that there were a lot of them!  But ask away all the same!  I don’t know if they will ever all get written, but I have high hopes!!

I have questions.
These have been bugging me. Maybe I’ll get lucky and someone (koff @caramelcheese koff) has an explanation.
1. Shiro’s in prison for a year. Yet he doesn’t end up with a beard to his chest, and his hair is still neatly cut. The leaked shots from S3 of Matt look like Matt’s hair has grown, though. How could Shiro stay neatly pressed (at least from the shoulders up) while Matt’s the one who can’t find scissors?
2a. Why are none of the paladins ever strapped in? It’s like the animators are thinking the cats are just big cars, and everything’s operating on a linear, horizontal plane. When the five first find the blue lion and it proceeds to scamper in mid-air (including twists), all of them should’ve ended up splattered across the interior. Including Lance. (I’ve been in a van that rolled off the road and over a 30′ drop. Think frog in a mixer and you’re pretty close to the results.)
(okay so yeah I come from the Gundam and Macross worlds for mecha, and I’ve done my time in Yukikaze and Sidonia no Kishi which are more real-world jet-pilot SF influenced than super-mecha, but still, strapping in is pretty much mandatory. If the animators didn’t want belts, they could still have gone with the pilot getting suctioned in, like S2 Gundam 00 or Escaflowne. but really, all five floating out of their seats? and no additional seats/straps for passengers? this isn’t a mini-van, people, it’s a big box that can go in any direction at any time and this bugs the crap out of me)
2b. Clearly none of the animators have actually done anything that requires wearing a helmet. Like, say, riding a motorcycle (or piloting a plane). Shiro’s helmet coming off ‘cause he’s rolling down a hill... that could happen with a bike helmet, but if it happens with a full helmet style like the paladin’s, then something is seriously wrong. I can’t watch that bit w/out wincing. A helmet that style coming off is bad news. Really bad. Like, not possibly not making it out alive and/or brain-crushed bad.
3a. Am I the only one giving the side-eye every time Allura protests (mostly in S1) about how the Alteans were a great and wonderful people, her father was a great man and a great father, etc etc? Zarkon can’t have always been pure evil if Alfor worked with him, which raises the question of whether Alfor was so pristine and perfect, too. Plus, Alfor agreeing that he’d made a mistake (in sending the lions away) squeaks the door open, at least for me, to the chance that Alfor made a few other mistakes, too.
3b. I mean, people just don’t up and go to war for no reason, unless the motivations here are so flat and boring as to be that Zarkon just woke up one morning pure evil. This is fiction: it’s supposed to make sense, so there must be another side to this story we’re not getting told. Something makes me wonder if “the dark history of the Paladins” isn’t just the fact that Zarkon was one of them.
4a. Yes, Zarkon is apparently an imperialist -- expanding his military borders constantly -- and definitely participating in some old-school colonialism (ie the Balmora). But there also seems to be an extended part of his empire that’s going about its business, ie the space mall. If he held supreme power, why go to all the effort to build super-secret galaxy stations that only his military can find? He’d just hand out some reason for that military base, people would shrug, call it the cost of peace, and carry on. The only reason to hide that would be if he has someone to hide it from. Which might just be ‘to make it more difficult for our main characters to find’ plotholey, or it might be a signal of greater powers beyond Zarkon.
4b. Zarkon’s destructive power seems to have escalated exactly as Voltron shows up. From the way Haggar talks, it’s been a long time of R&D and she’s only just achieved robeast technology. The planet-sucking energy thing is also a new development. Granted, the bigger an empire grows (hello, America) the larger its military force must be, to police both its country and its colonies, so the scope of Zarkon’s military force doesn’t surprise me. But it does seem like those forces (other than the few conquering new worlds/colonies) must’ve mostly been in relatively peaceful backwaters, doing little but patrolling.
4c. If Zarkon’s forces are so immensely advanced, why only advance to the edge of Earth’s solar system, to the farthest outside planet, and take three people? Why stop there? From Allura’s comments about Zarkon’s advance across the universe, Earth may be a backwater but there’s nothing indicating a reason Zarkon wouldn’t be as interested in it as he is anywhere else. So why show up only long enough to kidnap three people, and then take off? But I guess that ties into @smolsarcasticraspberry‘s theories about Shiro having Altaen abilities or history, if he’s the real reason the Galra swung through.
5a. That is one seriously massive castle for only three people. No one else ever appears in Allura’s memories. She has no pictures (mental or otherwise) of anyone. She mourns her father, but no one else. No mother or mother-substitute, no friends, no peers, no siblings, no extended family, not even people she must’ve known and seen every day who also lived in the castle. Unless it really was just she, Coran, and her father? Just one big empty castle where three people rattled around in miles of empty halls and rooms. Kinda depressing.
5b. It feels almost like Altea is this vast gap, where no one ever resided. And it makes it really hard for me to sympathize with any loss of Altea, because the only loss Allura mourns is her father, and anything else is kind of abstract. It’s like Altea itself was just a construct, one big empty field with flowers.
5c. Semi-related to that, in S2 Allura says her people were diplomats and travellers, so in hindsight it’s weird that she woke up, learned Altea’s been destroyed, and that’s that. Why assume that all Alteans were on Altea and were killed when the planet was destroyed? She makes no attempt to look for anyone; there’s no mention of Altean communities that might have survived elsewhere. Immigrants tend to cluster together, often for generations, just like you can still find a preponderance of Swedish or Norwegian surnames in parts of the American upper midwest. Yet neither she nor Coran even raise that chance, let alone chase it. Why not?
6a. The Altaen cuisine is unbelievably stupid. Food goo? Raise your hands if you’d eat the equivalent of anything, day in, day out, with no variation, and not find yourself sick of it. (If you do raise your hand, you’re like .01% of the human population because humans do not do well on unchanging diets; it’s why NASA and the military work hard to make a variety of packaged meals.) No matter how much protein a single food substance might provide, it being the only sustenance is just incomprehensible. Cuisine is a huge part of culture, and conveys so much about our history, our people, our beliefs, and our rituals. If in every other significant way the non-human cultures reflect this human value system (even the Balmorans seem to have some variety in their food), how can the Altaens possibly see green food goo (and that single bad-tasting alternate) as adequate?
6b. Okay so maybe the writers were just thinking it’s funny that the only Altaen alcoholic beverage tastes like old athletic socks (or however Lance put it), but it’s that they know it tastes horrible. What kind of people would subject themselves to bland food and foul-tasting drinks when they supposedly have the entire universe at their fingertips? Every diplomatic and military family I’ve known brings back bits and pieces of the cuisines from lands where they’ve been stationed. You sit down at their table, and it’s often an incredible mix of different cultures. So the complete lack of non-Atlean cultural elements in food and drink strikes me as just plain bizarre.
7. At some point, someone’s got to point out to Hunk that it’s time to stop calling everyone else ‘aliens’, right? It’s like being American, travelling to France, and calling every French person a foreigner. Hunk et al are the aliens, now. It just strikes me as a very human-centric view of things, and a rather myopic one, too, given other ways the writers do so well.
8. On that note, once or twice from Lance of flirting with Allura should’ve been enough. And fine, some guys are jerks, unwilling to take a girl’s disinterest for what it is. But not only does he keep doing it, no one else calls him out on it. Kieth, Hunk and Coran seem to ignore it; Shiro reels Lance in once or twice, but that’s not the same as hauling Lance aside and telling him to quit that, full stop. It’s disrespectful, it’s rude, and it’s attention Allura doesn’t like, and treating Lance’s insistent flirtation like a joke is rape culture hallmark, and quietly undermining any of the good done in letting Allura be her own character.
(If you’re thinking to yourself that Lance being pushy is just Lance being Lance, and you’ve found it funny despite Allura’s clearly irritated reactions, that’s 'cause rape culture has taught you that Lance’s behavior is okay. newsflash: it’s not.)
9a. Coming back around to Shiro: rewatching the point where Allura talks about the different lions, and her line about the Black Lion: “a pilot who is in control at all times”. I’ve rewatched a few times now, and every time, that line feels like a kick to the gut. Shiro hears those instructions at a point where he’s only just returned (and is almost immediately whisked away again), and has barely had a chance to process his escape, let alone the entirety of his trauma. And now he’s being told that he must take up a role where the requirement is ‘being in control at all times’?
9b. @i-love-voltron-stuff has a meta about Shiro planning his departure, but my suspicion is that this seemingly throwaway line could be the cause. From Sendak, to Haggar, to the Black Lion, to dealing with Slav, Shiro is cracking at all the seams. If Allura’s words felt like an edict, then it’s possible Shiro is certain that he cannot pilot, nor be the leader, so long as he can’t stay in control, and by the end of S2, he’s got to be aware his headspace is pretty bad. My guess is that while he wasn’t planning on disappearing from the cockpit quite like that, he was probably expecting a short shelf life, mentally. Too many cracks, no more control, and thus no longer fit to be the Black Lion’s pilot.
to be continued (of course)

I love seasons 1-3 of Haven. I really quite enjoyed season 4 of Haven. Season 5a of Haven is fun, but a bit odd given seasons 1-4. Season 5b of Haven is... something. I mean it’s good job everyone (especially Lucas Bryant) has such good faces because otherwise this would be hard going.
I do desperately want to watch every single other thing Lucas has ever done but I don’t know if I can handle that much Hallmark!
