Level Up! Video Game Skill by Twinsimming 🎮

Happy New Year 🥳 Here's my first mod for 2024!!

This mod expands on The Sims 3's hidden Video Game skill by making it similar to the skill of the same name in The Sims 4.

This is a script mod that can be placed in your Packages folder. It was built and tested on 1.69 but should work fine on 1.67.

This mod requires The Sims 3: University Life.

New Moodlets

Video Games

Sims can now play all 6 computer games available in The Sims 3, regardless of their Nerd Influence level. They also have access to 9 additional computer games from The Sims 4. All of these games will raise their hidden Video Game skill.

If you have @olomaya's Voidcritters mod installed, your sims can also “Play Voidcritters” on the computer to level up their Voidcritters skill along with their hidden Video Game skill.

The “Play Chess” interaction has been moved out of the “Play Video Game…” pie menu to avoid it getting lost among all of the new options.

Tournaments

Teen and older sims with level 2 hidden Video Game skill or higher can compete in video game tournaments on the computer. There are five tiers of tournament, each costing more in entry fees and being harder to win, but offering larger cash prizes.

The tournament tiers, required levels, lengths, entry costs, prize amounts, and chances of winning are as follows:

Amateur (Level 2) - 2 hours, §25 entry fee, 1st Place (§150), 2nd Place (§100), 3rd Place (§50), 40% chance of winning

Novice (Level 4) - 3 hours, §50 entry fee, 1st Place (§450), 2nd Place (§300), 3rd Place (§150), 35% chance of winning

Semi Pro (Level 6) - 4 hours, §75 entry fee, 1st Place (§750), 2nd Place (§600), 3rd Place (§450), 30% chance of winning

Pro (Level 8) - 5 hours, §100 entry fee, 1st Place (§1050), 2nd Place (§900), 3rd Place (§750), 25% chance of winning

Elite (Level 10) - 6 hours, §125 entry fee, 1st Place (§3000), 2nd Place (§1500), 3rd Place (§1000), 20% chance of winning

If your sim cancels the tournament interaction for any reason (mood failure, buff timeout, etc.) they will automatically forfeit the tournament. But they can enter a new tournament right away without a cooldown.

Placing in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grants positive moodlets (Winner!, Runner Up, or Bronze Baby), along with prize money. If your sim doesn’t make the podium, they don’t get anything but a negative custom moodlet called Loser.

Win or lose, your sim won’t be able to compete in another tournament until their moodlet expires.

Certain traits can either increase or decrease your chance of winning a video game tournament by 5% (note: this value stacks the more traits your sim has):

Increased Chance Traits - Lucky and Computer Whiz

Decreased Chance Traits - Unlucky, Absent Minded, and Loser

A sim’s hidden Video Game skill and hidden Arcade Machine skill also factor into their overall winning chance.

Stadium Tournaments

If your sim is at least level 6 in the hidden Video Game skill, they can compete in video game tournaments held at the stadium rabbithole on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays @ 1:00pm.

There are Semi Pro, Pro, and Elite level tournaments available, with a slightly higher entrance fee than computer tournaments, but they offer much more prize money and celebrity points if your sim comes in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place.

The chances of winning these tournaments is the same as their computer tournament equivalent listed above.

Semi Pro Stadium Tournament (Level 6) - 4 hours, §150 entry fee, 1st Place (§3000), 2nd Place (§2000), 3rd Place (§1500)

Pro Stadium Tournament (Level 8) - 5 hours, §175 entry fee, 1st Place (§6500), 2nd Place (§5000), 3rd Place (§3500)

Elite Stadium Tournament (Level 10) - 6 hours, §200 entry fee, 1st Place (§10000), 2nd Place (§8500), 3rd Place (§7000)

New Moodlets

*Winner!: Given when a sim comes in 1st place in a video game tournament, lasts 8 hours, +25 mood

*An existing moodlet that is repurposed for this mod.

Runner Up: Given when a sim comes in 2nd place in a video game tournament, lasts 8 hours, +15 mood

Bronze Baby: Given when a sim comes in 3rd place in a video game tournament, lasts 8 hours, +5 mood

Loser: Given when a sim fails to place in a video game tournament, lasts 8 hours, -25 mood

Mod Recommendation

I recommend using Dandelion Sprout's Unhide Hidden Skills mod to track your sim's hidden Video Game and Arcade Machine skills.

Conflicts & Known Issues

This is a new script mod so there shouldn’t be any conflicts.

I borrowed a friend's [Awakened] Baden just for the chance of seeing him fight alongside [Awakened] Thane in the Arcane Labyrinth. Fortunately, I did get to see the latter; plus, we won this round. (⁠.⁠ ⁠❛⁠ ⁠ᴗ⁠ ⁠❛⁠.⁠)

Sadly, Thane died. 🥹

And his husband Baden followed him right after the next battle. 😭

Meanwhile, Ezizh was laughing his ass off. ಠ‿ಠ

Oh, he also died soon after. lol

Nonetheless, I used Dura's Tears to resurrect the gang for the last battle on the third floor; and then,

THEY DIED. 💀💀💀💀💀

(They were up against level 200 Awakened Athalia, Awakened Shemira, Awakened Solise and other 2 Hypogeans whose names I can't recall. My heroes' levels are around 140-150. ಠ‿ಠ Though, they did manage to get rid of 2 of the enemies before they RIP — which made it less of a struggle for the remaining heroes I have.)

Thankfully, these fellas successfully avenged them. ᕙ⁠(⁠＠⁠°⁠▽⁠°⁠＠⁠)⁠ᕗ

(Edwin looks fabulously regal on that throne. lol)

Wow, it’s been so long since I’ve come up with a romantic headcanon for Jake that doesn’t involve Hannix 😂

I’m a total believer that Jake Seresin is the kind of guy who commits himself 150% once he finds the woman that he wants to spend the rest of his life with. And when it comes to the proposal, he does everything in his power to make sure that it all goes perfectly. He wants it to be intimate and special, something that’s meaningful to the two of you and your relationship.

I imagine that he would make a whole day of it, starting out with lunch at the restaurant where he took you on your first date, followed by some of your favorite things to do together as a couple. And once the sun starts setting, he takes you on a romantic stroll along the pier where you shared your first kiss, where he ultimately drops down on one knee and asks if you’ll be his forever 💍♥️

Ngl, this year towards the end was sad and scary as an adult and artist.

“Position 1. Position 4. Position 7. Position… hmm… 15. Position 3.”

Lydia watched, mouth ajar, as Cecilia gave the orders and Coriander flowed like water from one stance to another. Each movement was incredibly graceful and almost instantaneous, it was like the young man didn’t even have to think about the positions, but just instinctively knew which one was the right one.

“Position 6, position 9, position 10.” Some of the positions made Lydia’s blood run cold, they were too obviously intended for control and punishment, like position 6, with wrists held up together, so that someone could bind or chain the pet, while others looked pretty and more like a part of a dance, like position 14, gracefully standing turned to the side with arms stretched out like a yoga warrior pose.

She bit her lip. Was it right for her to let Ceci order him around like this? But Cecilia was an experienced pet owner, if she said that it was okay it was probably okay…

Lydia studied Coriander, he was flushed, and his breath was coming a bit faster with exertion, but he looked… proud, almost happy. Some of the party guests passing by their corner of the big hall watched him appreciatively, but none of them looked particularly surprised.

“Seriously, Lydia.” Ceci had said. “You didn’t even know about this?”

“Well, I knew about one and two, for standing and kneeling.”

“Huh.. well, come on, Cory-boy. Show your mistress what you can do.”

And then the dance had begun.

Cecilia paused and gave Coriander an apprising look. Then, she said. “Position 34.” She gave Lydia a sly wink and a grin, as if she should know what it meant. Coriander looked as confused as his owner. “Position 30. Position 26.” At each command, Coriander looked more and more distraught, shaking his head helplessly. Lydia thought she could see tears in his eyes. When Ceci said “Position 20” and the pet genuflected on the carpet, head lowered over his bent knee like a knight in an old painting, Lydia steeled herself to say.

“Thank you for the demonstration, Ceci, and well done, Cory. Perhaps we should let Coriander catch his breath and then go for some food at the buffet?”

For your big three, IF negatively afflicted, this could cause a quite confused individual. Cancer and Aquarius are imo very different signs, opposite signs obviously can have their differences but they do tend to have a lot in common under the surface. Cancer and aquarius on the other hand do not have a lot in common and therefore struggle to make ends meet. This could propose the head vs heart scenario a lot when making decisions in real life!

I hate nostalgia, i hate ushy mushy gushy floofy feelings

but this year and the people I've met during the oh-so-insane, infamous, going-down-in-history 2020.... They're too important to ignore

I started this year as a tiny, niche blog with less than 150 followers and no focus. I didn't talk to anyone, i was hesitant to even post too much for fear of judgement, i guess 🤷 Dumb, i know

But then along came AoS season 7, and with it the absolute whirlwind that was Dousy and Fitzsimmons child and the series finale...

And along with THAT came some of the most wonderful, hilarious, lovely people I've ever met. The time I've spent fangirling, screaming, hyperventilating, laughing, and crying has been my favorite experience in any fandom I've ever considered myself a part of
