New keychains! These are going to keep coming because I want to have cute merch for all our faves. These are for the Padmé and Handmaiden girlies, sort of a tribute to Padmé’s role in the formation of the rebel alliance, but also to Sabé and the Amidalans who had their own rebel cell on Naboo.
These have a Naboo starfighter and a Naboo royal crest as charms. The lanyard says “we are brave, your highness” in Aurebesh.
Available here.

And then there's Dooku...
Lucas: And you get a name *throws one at The Emperor*
Lucas: And you get a name *throws two at the Fetts*
Lucas: And you get a name *throws one at the assassin lady that failed to kill Padme*
Lucas: And you get a name *throws eight at all of Padme's handmaidens*
Lucas: And you get a name *throws one at the dinosaur Jedi that did nothing but get shot down by Jango*
Dooku: What about me?
Lucas: You don't

"They gave up their families and their names and their reputations, and they did it willingly, because they believe in your idea of what we could be. You trained us and gave us the ability to defend ourselves. We have worked to become a fluid, adaptable group, and we are powerful, Captain. Even if it's not the kind of power you are accustomed to."

I realize this might be super weird, and there is like no indication in DLB, but I was rereading it and kinda found myself shipping Leia and Eirtaé a little?? I mean, she went from not liking Leia at all to being protective and pissed at Padmé for sending her to the Jedi and it's kinda cute. So, I guess I can add this to the list of weird ships DLB made me discover XD Also, I just really adore all the handmaidens the way you write them. Their interactions with each other and with Padmé and Leia are perfect
Glad to be upending so many people's preconceived ideas for shipping in this fandom. Especially with side characters. I really have tried to flesh out the handmaidens and a number of other characters, and I'm glad people are invested in them now. That they see a future for these characters. It makes me feel like I've done a good job.

Answering my asks p1 :)
Tumblr media
Thanks for the ask friend!
I’m super excited to get to rant with fellow Star Wars fans, especially about some underrated, courageous and amazing characters!
I love all Padmé’s handmaidens and all their quirks. Dormé’s loyalty and love for Padmé that brings her to tears in Attack of the Clones is gorgeous, and I love how the Clone Wars delved into the fact that Teckla has children to love and nurture.
So. Off the top of my head the handmaidens I can think of include:
The original five that served Padmé as Queen of Naboo:
- Sabé
- Saché
- Yané
- Eirtaé
- Rabé
Padmé’s senatorial handmaidens from Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith:
- Dormé
- Moteé
- Versé
- Cordé
- Ellé
- Hollé
And then there were handmaidens introduced not in live action, but in books like Ek Johnston’s Padmé trilogy and the Clone Wars :
- Teckla
- Duja
- Tepoh (technically Tepoh is Saché’s aid but any friend of a handmaiden is Padmé’s friend)
I researched it and apparently I forgot some rarely mentioned handmaidens like Karté, Fé, Dané, Umé and Miré.
For more information on the handmaidens and who they are, you can use resources like this one:
So, why do I love the handmaidens?
Well, the fact that these characters are made out to be simple aides to Padmé, who are responsible for her hair, clothing decisions and makeup support, but are really her trusted ‘decoys, bodyguards and confidantes,’ is so fascinating to me (quoting Star Wars.com’s Guide to the Royal Handmaidens of Naboo article). They are symbolic of that moral of not judging a book by its cover, as they are more trained, skilled and close to Padmé than most assume.
Also, I love how the handmaidens are so selfless. They sacrifice so many opportunities to enjoy their life and pursue their interests to protect a dear friend who cares for them but cannot be entirely truthful with them (Anakin boy, we love you, and we know it is not your fault, but you kind of make your wife so secretive towards her friends).
And, on a lesser note, I love how the handmaidens follow Padmé’s impeccable fashion style and wear some gorgeous cloaks and outfits. Whether they be grey velvet cloaks or the flame-coloured robes, the handmaidens pull off every simple style so effortlessly.
Talking about the lesser known handmaidens
For the lesser known handmaidens like Duja, Teckla, Tepoh and Moteé, I consider them equally as interesting as those we know more about. They each have their own unique traits that I hope can be explored in future Star Wars content, whether it be prequel era books, comics, series etc.
Duja is first mentioned in the book I really adore, Thrawn Alliances. I love how we get it inferred that Duja was passionate, courageous and willing to face any danger if it allowed her to aid the greater good. It was also a neat little touch in the book where the author mentioned how both Duja and Padmé had once discussed their longing for children of their own. Unfortunately, this character we learnt so little amount perished in the line of duty during the Clone Wars while she was investigating a Separatist factory.
Teckla seems like a sweet-natured character and I adore her. I find it funny that many believe her only appearance is in the Clone Wars, when it has been confirmed that she was the handmaiden in that Attack of the Clones scene serving dinner to Anakin and Padmé before that chat about aggressive negotiations. In the Clone Wars episode ‘Pusuit of Peace’, I love how she helps Padmé with her hair (which is revealed to be a wig) and acts as an optimistic spark of hope when Padmé is fatigued and frustrated.
I loved the introduction of Tepoh in the book Queen’s Hope. The fact that Tepoh is the first character I know of in Star Wars who goes by zhe/zhem pronouns made zhem even more fascinating to me, as I adore characters who feel confident enough to express their true personality and values. Tepoh was likeable for me as zhe were open about their inability to fit into the bleak binary of the male and female categories. I also found it cool of zhem to be willing to aid Saché in their fight for the greater good, even if it meant she had to sit and notetake a lot of information from meetings.
Although I do not know that much about Moteé, the one comic I own that features her makes me adore her. Not only do I love the scene where she walks in on Anidala kissing and she just goes straight to business, but I also love how she is inquisitive about the forbidden affair between Anakin and Padmé. Also, I admire how Moteé takes on the advice of Dormé to let Padmé be happy with Anakin, as it proves that she will be forthright with her opinions but will be open-minded when it is needed.
Enjoy the very few gifs I could find that feature the handmaidens….
And May the Force be with you all ✨

Nâdune: The Handmaidens
The word for handmaiden in Nabooro is nâdune, and is rooted in the same word as “warrior” (tonde), as handmaidens are meant to not only accompany queens (or princesses, when Naboo was not yet an elected monarchy) and offer them companionship, but also guard and protect them when necessary.
Traditionally, handmaidens were older than the princess, but as the tradition of enshué ‘n canâk (masks and disguises), developed out of the older traditions of facepaint and veiling, handmaidens slowly became the same age as the princess or royal they were protecting in order to disguise themselves as her better.
The handmaid who closest resembles the one they protect (or, if several of them look similar, the title is afforded to a handmaid who has been injured in her duty towards her princess) is known as the shâm nâdun, and is the highest ranking of the nâdune, though that rank is more a formality than anything else in the present day.
The parallel figure to this for young princes is a cânsag. Cânsag have similar functions to nâdune, in that they are usually of an age with the prince or young royal or noble they protect so they can disguise themselves as each other in situations where it is necessary, though the forms their enshué take are different.
Regarding Padmé’s nâdune:
Sabé / Tsabin means “herald of new life/growth”, translating literally as “mouth of the seed.”
Eirtaé / Eirtama means “poetic.”
Ballory (Balori) is a vocational family name for those who were once royal or religious warriors, translating literally to “warriors of the Six.” (More on “the Six” soon!)
Rabé / Rabene means “daughter of spring”.
Tonsort is also a once-vocational name for religious warriors, translating to “blessed warrior.”
Saché / Sashah is a name with many meanings, generally understood as meaning “deeper than meets the eye”, though can also be understood as ‘mysterious,’ or ‘one who is less than trustworthy’ - translating literally as “to question what you see.”
Adova is a regional name for those from the Western continent.
While Sabé and Cordé are the nâdune who most resemble Padmé, Saché was given the title of shâm nâdun after the Invasion of Naboo.
Yané / Suyan means “diamond, gem,” though Yané specifically is also a name in itself that means “life, greenery.”
Higin is a historical vocational name for higher ranking tailors on Naboo, i.e. tailor.
Cordé / Cordyn is a traditional name meaning “protector of the past.”
Dormé / Dorra means “cold,” and is one of several traditional winter names for children.
Versé / Versaat means “blessed,” or, more literally, “daughter of the Six.”
Moteé is more of a metaphoric name/phrase that is best translated as “to bloom,” though it translates literally as “to grow wings,” kind of in the sense of... to come into your own?
As Moteé doesn’t have a canon ‘original’ name i.e. before-she-was-a-handmaiden name, I came up with my own: Motil.
Most of these handmaiden names are actual names, though not all of them are particularly common ones (Yané is the one that is most commonly in use in the present day). The -é form is a presently somewhat old-fashioned way of constructing names used in previous centuries by royalty—so, these names do mostly maintain their actual meaning, because the root for most of their names is the same.
* I do eventually intend to come up with more last names and assign them some, but that’s... not a priority for me right now.

Star Wars: Darth Vader #32 Preview: HANDMAIDEN NO MORE? Few bonds in the galaxy are as strong as the sisterhood of the former handmaidens of Padmé Amidala. But all that was threatened when Sabé entered the service of Darth Vader, the man the handmaidens always believed was responsible for Padmé’s death. Now Dormé, Saché, Rabé and Eirtaé are determined to save Sabé – or stop her, no matter what.…

The Gift of a Queen
Fandom: Star Wars
Characters: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padmé Amidala
Summary: In the aftermath of his first battle with Darth Maul, Obi-Wan struggles and finds comfort and strength in an unlikely place.
A/N: In today's edition of "I don't even go here" I post yet another Star Wars fic. I have to admit that I wasn't the biggest Padmé fan growing up, but all of the spectacular fanfic writers here have really shown me how special her friendship with Obi-Wan is, so thanks for that everyone!
Read on AO3
His master is dead. He is dead and Obi-Wan…
Obi-Wan can barely think straight. Palace guards came and found him about fifteen minutes ago, meaning he finally had to let go of Qui-Gon’s cold, stiffening body and attend to matters at hand. The battle is over, they have beaten back the Trade Federation. A Sith Lord has been defeated. Their mission is complete. By all accounts it is a success, despite the grave sacrifice it took to complete it.
He is ushered by one of the handmaidens, Eirtaé, into the throne room. The palace still smells of blaster fire and ferrocrete dust and Padmé sits on the throne, looking for all the world as regal as can be despite the dirt smudges on her face and the hair that has come loose from its twists.
She is conversing with Captain Panaka, clearly giving orders as guards and members of the parliament scurry in and out, everyone in a state of elated hustle and bustle. They are free again, but there are still wounded to be tended to, citizens who must be helped back to their homes, and damage that must be repaired as quickly as possible.
She stops everything when she sees him. “Padawan Kenobi.” Her voice is soft, compassionate, but still official sounding. “Master Qui-Gon—“
“Has become one with the Force.” The words barely make it out of his mouth and they sound stiff, foreign. Like they belong to someone else.
“I was so informed,” she says. “We are all terribly sorry for your loss.”
He inclines his head slightly. “Thank you. I will need to contact the Temple to arrange for—“ the words do not come this time and he has to take a deep breath to force them past his throat, “to arrange for his funeral.”
He will have to tell them all what has occurred. The thought of it makes his heart feel even heavier. He’s not sure how he will manage it when he is barely making it through this conversation, but he must find a way. It is his duty.
“Of course. We are working to re-establish contact with the senate and will alert you the moment communication becomes available. We have also made arrangements for rooms for you and your charge.”
Anakin!
The name slams into him like a thunderbolt, directly in the chest, sending shockwaves of shame reverberating throughout his entire body. He has not even thought of the boy in hours. “Anakin oh my—is he all right?” he asks, suddenly frantic with worry, looking around the room as if the child will suddenly pop out of a corner.
Padmé quirks a smile. “He is more than all right. He saved us all. He should be back planetside shortly. Some of our pilots are guiding him in to keep him from finding any more mischief.”
Pilots? Planetside? What in the stars?
Padmé still speaking, but Obi-Wan’s vision has tunneled and he can no longer focus on her words. It’s too much. It’s all far too much. Anakin. The Trade Federation. A Sith Lord. His master.
His chest tightens and he places a hand over his heart as his breathing turns rapid and shallow. Padmé is on her feet, her face concerned. “Padawan Kenobi, are you all right?”
He is not. His master is dead, his calming presence gone, leaving a gaping hole in Obi-Wan’s center, pain like he has never known burning him from the inside out. Everything is spinning and he cannot breathe.
The next thing he knows he is on the floor and Padmé is cradling his face. “Get a healer immediately!” she calls before looking down at him. “Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan you must breathe.”
But his chest is only growing tighter, his vision darkening, and then he knows nothing, blessed nothing, for a little while.
When he wakes he is in a bed. He can breathe now, but his entire chest feels as if it is on fire, and his head throbs. He inhales sharply, trying to get his bearings.
“Easy,” a kind voice tells him and he is beyond surprised to find Padmé sitting beside him. “You gave us a fright Padawan Kenobi.”
“I’m sorry,” he says automatically. “I—what happened?”
“You were injured during the battle,” she tells him. “You’ve broken three ribs and have considerable bruising. The healers were concerned about a punctured lung, but you seem to have avoided that fate.”
Ah. No wonder it feels as if his entire chest has been split open. Or perhaps that’s the grief. He’s no longer sure of the difference between his physical and emotional pain.
“You also seem to be suffering from exhaustion,” Padmé continues. “Our healers are not trained in dealing with Force sensitives, but they believe you may have overexerted yourself.”
Likely. He’s never had to draw on the Force so desperately, all while feeling the suffocating press of the dark side pushing back at him. But he does not care about that right now.
His voice comes out rough, “Anakin—“
“Is safe and being taken care of. Sabé is with him. He was unharmed during the battle.” She smiles. “I think he’s quite enjoying his status as a hero.”
Obi-Wan relaxes slightly. He has not lost the child entrusted to him with his master’s dying breath. That’s something.
“I took the liberty of contacting the Temple,” Padmé says, her eyes serious once more. “I may have overstepped, but considering the circumstances it seemed prudent to have them arrive as swiftly as possible.”
So he will not have to be the one to bear the news after all. His relief is palpable. Surely the Council felt Qui-Gon’s passing, but to have to be the one to tell Master Yoda, Master Windu, to others who were close to his master…Obi-Wan is grateful that burden has been taken from him. He’s not sure he would have been able to find the words.
“Thank you,” he says, adjusting himself to a more seated position, even though it pains him to do so. “Shouldn’t you be helping put your planet back together? It is not necessary for you to sit a vigil by my sickbed.”
She tilts her head and for a moment Obi-Wan feels completely exposed, as if she can see directly through him, though she has no Force abilities of her own. “You have sacrificed a great deal for my people,” she says. “It is an honor to sit by your side in this time.”
For the first time Obi-Wan realizes she is holding his hand. And it is this small, tender act of kindness that is nearly his undoing. His throat tightens, eyes burning with tears. Qui-Gon is gone, and Obi-Wan is alone. He feels small and vulnerable, like a child, not a fully grown man. It is embarrassing and pathetic and not at all like a Jedi.
“It is all right to grieve,” Padmé says quietly. “I know I cannot fully understand your loss, but I think even a Jedi can take time to mourn the passing of someone they have loved.”
And Obi-Wan had loved him so dearly, despite their differences. Had loved his gentle, if unconventional teaching methods, his penchant for the living Force, which so often meant their missions taking unexpected turns. He’d loved the way his master cared for even the lowest of beings. He had loved his master, and now he was gone.
“Thank you,” he says, his voice little more than a whisper.
“You should get some rest. If you’d like I can stay,” she says. “Or if you would prefer time to yourself I will take my leave.”
“Please stay.” The words surprise him, leaving his mouth before he even realizes how desperately he does not want to be alone right now. “I would…I would appreciate the company.”
“Of course,” she says. “Rest now. I’ll wake you in a few hours.”
He allows his eyes to drift shut, the grief and his injuries exhausting his spirit and pulling him back toward sleep, Padmé’s hand still gently holding his.
In future days, when things became too much to bear, he will remember this moment, remember the gift of a queen who had held his hand in one of his darkest hours.
