maybe "i want to eat your pancreas" will be our always
[spoilers under cut]
i put off reading i want to eat your pancreas just for the second volume to be one of the handful of books to make me cry. was when Haruki goes to Sakura's house after missing the funeral. and her mom's like 'you're him.' and she hands him Sakura's journal. and the fact that it wasn't even the cancer that killed her, and him having a gut feeling something was wrong. like bruh, how dare you pull a twist like that.
and granted i should've garnered from the cover art that it wasn't gonna be the body horror i was expecting it to be but still.

Summary: Sakura still has many things in her list to do before dying and Haruki would grant her any wish, however many she liked, for as long as possible… If only she didn’t have to die.

Following up with this Ask from November, the newest episode of Twisted Radio Station welcomed six people from the development team including D-6th, f4 Samurai and more!
⚠️ Caution: Minor spoilers for events and main story elements that have not been released on EN. ⚠️
Sebek's VA Ishiya Haruki hosted this episode alone, which featured scenario/novelization author Hioki Jun (D-6th), composer/lyricis Ozawa Takumi, designer Osakabe Wataru, background artist Mineda (D-6th), f4 Samurai producer Sato and f4 Samurai animator Shiga.
Composer and lyricist Ozawa Takumi talked about Ferro and Gidel’s theme from the Playfulland event, saying that the whistling was a request from Yana and she had never recorded one or incorporated one into a song before.
She considered hiring a professional, but didn’t want someone who sounded too proper for Ferro. She has created over 200 songs for Twst. She says cannot see the visuals when making music, so she doesn’t know how things are to be assembled until it is released for users.
Designer Osakabe Wataru says he has been a part of the team from the beginning (6 years ago), joining after he heard that they were looking for a designer for the logos, user interface, fonts, etc. He also designed the dorm emblems, the Twst Fes logo and more!
f4 Samurai producer Sato said the game took two years to develop (hence why they have all been working together for 6 years), and he'd wanted to do the Stitch event from before the game even launched. He talked about the unique struggles of developing that event with Stitch.
f4 Samurai animator Shiga said that she joined the game after it launched, and she is now in charge of brushing up the designs they receive from Yana for use in animation. She is particularly fond of the unique animations for Rollo and Ferro.

You looked like the shell, the shell of the seas,
The gleaming light blue and pink, and the green of the scenes
The bright shades that touch up to the sky,
The shades that made my depressed heart fckin smile.
You really are like those shells that fell from your hand
Ma'am, may I pick one of them, for you?
The endless blue sky from the ends of the sea
Or wait, are you those white clouds? Floating up to the moons??!
Or probably those white rabbit that playing hide n seek with innocence at peak
You could be that clean flowing stream maybe
Or the bird that sings with dawn under its' wings.
Oh girl, oh girl
You make me think, you make me think
In the rush of all my thoughts, all you do is blink
You give me a pause, a rest off from the weights,
I don't want to say it,
But you have that "she got me thinking"  days.
You look like the dawn, but I wanna see the sunsets with you
You might be the moon, but I wanna find your shine be it, a new moon
But as Haruki said, "I want to pick a page from your book"
I ain't that romantic or bookish
But I still wanna ask
May I? Pick a sea shell, just for you?
This writing is dedicated to someone I saw on 1st July, at my college... she had a fall of shells from a packet of it, which she had in a room full of students, being an introvert... the way she went by the situation, with the charming smile of hears, really had my heart. I don't know if I will ever talk to her or not but that idea seldom seems to bother me,
One thing about this I would like to mention is, about "may I pick a shell just for you" .... it's an idea taken from Yoru Sumino's "I want to eat your pancreas" . Like Haruki Shiga while wanting to confess tried to say, I want to eat your pancreas, more specifically when he tried to write, 'can I have a page of your book', the line "picking shell for you" refers to the same idea.

book review: sputnik sweetheart by haruki murakami | 1999
Tumblr media
summary:
sumire is in love with a woman seventeen years her senior. but whereas miu is glamorous and successful, sumire is an aspiring writer who dresses in an oversized second-hand coat and heavy boots like a character in a kerouac novel.
sumire spends hours on the phone talking to her best friend k. about the big questions in life: what is sexual desire, and should she ever tell miu how she feels for her? meanwhile k. wonders whether he should confess his own unrequited love for sumire.
then, a desperate miu calls from a small greek island: sumire has mysteriously vanished...
my opinion:
first of all, i will say that i liked sputnik sweetheart much better than kafka on the shore. the plot itself isn't bad if you consider it separately from the love line, which is kind of crazy here. sumire is a person who thinks she wants one thing, when in fact she purely morally can't get near it. miu tries to ignore her past. and k. tries to get over her feelings for sumire while trying to at least remain her friend. this isn't the first time murakami has brought up the subject of split personalities, it feels like he firmly believes that we can be split in half in the literal sense, and one half will live its posh life while another sit in a corner somewhere
sumire tries to write her own novel throughout the book, and the way her worldview changes shows that this may not be what she should be going for. always when we meet new people, they have a strong influence on us, which is what happened when the girl met miu. under the influence of her feelings, she comes to a new awareness of what she's doing, and i don't think that's a bad thing, because it shows that she's still developing as a character. but honestly, probably my favorite character in this book is k. he, despite his feelings for sumire, understands that they can't make it work, and so appreciates their friendship. but at the same time, while he still has some hope, i don't really like that he's starting a relationship with his pupil's mother, it doesn't seem quite right to me. however, no one called him a one-love man, had someone?
the plot development is pretty good, although Ii honestly never understood two things:
• what the twist with sumire's disappearance in greece was for, whether she was actually on the island or got into the reality of the second miu, remained unclear to me.
• the scene with k.'s pupil, how much chance is there that this boy is acting this way because he is also bifurcated? what if murakami wanted to show that absolutely everyone, adult or child, is subject to bifurcation? that's only worth speculating about.
so what we have here is a bit of a detective book, with a love line that is a mess, since no one got anywhere, and except for miu, everyone is a loner with undifferentiated feelings.
sputnik sweetheart is a really good read, especially in its genre, as i said, personally in my opinion, it is better than even kafka on the shore, despite all the complexity of explaining the nature of the relationship itself and what love is, comparing people's relationships to a satellite's, and the atmosphere of loneliness the author conveyed, it is just amazing.
my rating:
3.9/5
Tumblr media
«sputnik … ?»
«the name of a literary movement. you know—how they classify writers in various schools of writing. like shiga naoya was in the white birch school.»
finally it dawned on sumire. «beatnik!»
miu lightly dabbed at the corner of her mouth with a napkin.
«beatnik—sputnik. i never can remember those kinds of terms.»

Anime Movies - Seishun Romance Edition
When I was younger (seven to ten years ago?), I tend to read any kind of stories (not gore, horror though), especially those with good reviews. As I'm getting older, somehow I become less interested in romance as main story/plot. I like romance, it's adorable, exciting, heartwarming. I guess, I just become much more selective particularly with romance.
When I was making a list of anime movies I like to rewatch, other than works from some popular directors, there are some that I also considering to rewatch once in a while. Then I realized that they have seishun romance as a big part of their stories. Here they are~
Koe no Katachi 聲の形 (2016)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really like Koe no Katachi manga. The anime movie is very nice though I vaguely remember after I watched it, I felt, agh it's not that as impressive as manga. Growing up with regrets, past mistakes, and how they handle those. Mending hearts and relationships. Self-loathing. Characters personalities and their growths. Koe no Katachi is compelling. Those X on faces of people around Ishida Shoya also relatable. Love story between two main characters, Nishimiya Shouko and Ishida Shoya, is lovely. Even though romance is a big element, there are a lot to ponder about (other than romance) in this story, and maybe that's why it lingers more. I think I will rewatch this after I reread the manga.
Koi wo shita no wa (恋をしたのわ) by Aiko is a well-match as theme song.
youtube
Josee to Tora to Sakanatachi ジョゼと虎と魚たち (2020)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I watched the live action movie of this story years ago (great casts and theme song), the ending was quite heartbreaking which I thought this anime movie would also have similar ending. I was ready for it but turned out it's not. It's sweet~! Finding your true self and not giving up hope. This anime movie has some beautiful scenes, I like Josee's room!
I really like the ending song, Ao no Waltz (蒼のワルツ) by Eve.
youtube
Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai 君の膵臓をたべたい (2018)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I watched the live action movie first some time ago, it's so heartbreaking (the first movie I watched of Kitamura Takumi and he's very good), and yet I was still a bit excited to have my heart breaks again when I knew they're going to adapt it as anime movie. Emotional journey and bond between two seemingly opposite characters. When I first knew about this story, I initially thought she might be passed away later because of her disease, but damn that twist. Life really, it can be taken away at anytime, unexpectedly. The title 'I want to eat your pancreas' and Sakura's journal 'Living with Dying' (共病文庫 Kyōbyō Bunko) also thought-provoking. That moment when Shiga Haruki said "Can I cry now?" really ;;__;;
I really like the ending song Shunkashuto (春夏秋冬 haru natsu aki fuyu) and insert song Himitsu (秘密) by Sumika.

May there be many more captivating, wonderful, thought-provoking, encouraging, beautiful stories we can watch in this lifetime~

Kyoko Takimoto -is one of the main supporting characters in the I Want to Eat Your Pancreas series. She is the the best friend of Sakura Yamauchi.
SUMMARY
-An unnamed male high school student comes across a book in a hospital waiting room. He soon discovers that it is a diary kept by his very popular classmate Sakura Yamauchi, who reveals to him that she is secretly suffering from a fatal illness in her pancreas. Despite this, Sakura intends to maintain a normal school life and thus is drawn to him due to his relatively unfazed reaction to her condition. They begin to spend time together and become friends. During their school break, Sakura invites him on a train trip to Fukuoka where they play truth-or- dare game and eventually share a bed in their hotel room. Afterward, Sakura's friends and classmates grow suspicious and resentful of his newfound closeness to her. The two begin doing activities from Sakura's bucket list together until she is suddenly hospitalized. During her hospitalization, the two sneak out to see fireworks together. When she gets discharged, Sakura invites him for lunch but fails to show up at their meeting place. Later that night, he learns from the news that Sakura died from a stabbing. He breaks down and does not attend her funeral. Later, he visits Sakura's mother and asks for her diary. Her mother recognizes him and reveals Sakura left a message in the diary for him. The message tells him to keep the diary and to make her best friend Kyoko read it since she was unaware of her illness. Soon after reading the message, he immediately breaks down into tears as he never felt so much sorrow for a single person before. Sakura's mother learns of his name as Haruki Shiga before he leaves and explains how his name meaning "spring trees" corresponds to her daughter's name of "cherry blossom". Haruki meets with Kyoko, who is in denial that Sakura ever lied to her, but she runs away after reading the diary. Haruki runs after her and asks her to be his friend. In a post-credits scene, Haruki and Kyoko, who are now friends, visit Sakura's grave a year later.
MORAL LESSON
-'I want to eat your pancreas' is about a young girl named Sakura who was diagnosed with a pancreatic illness, and told she had only a little time left to live. This film not only is beautiful aesthetically but also through the story it tells the audience. I think the strongest part is the theming. It is just beautiful and woven into the film so effortlessly. It explores friendships, loneliness and death as well as live and living in such an amazing way. It isn't scared to really dig deep into these topics and shove them in your face to look at. I can't express how amazing it was to watch the writer explore and play with these films in such a real way.The message is to live everyday like it's your last!

I want to eat your pancreas
Quality: 9/10
Enjoyment: 9/10
Genre: Tragedy

Synopsis
One day, Haruki Shiga meets one of his classmates at the hospital and ends up reading her secret journal. What happens when they become friends and what is exactly is her secret?
Review
This series is known as a tearjerker for good reason. It delievers a well written and tragic story between two high schoolers, one of which is striken with cancer. From this, the author explores themes about the meaning of life and how an individual ought to live. The text itself, I would argue, is absurdist saying that life itself has no meaning and that existence itself is absurd but that an individual must derive meaning for oneself. Overall, the story is quite well written with well developed themes and engaging characters. I will take off points for some incelish developments.
Omniscient Reader's viewpoint
Quality: 6/10
Enjoyment: 7/10

Synopsis
A man has been the only reader for a thousand page webnovel. Now it appears that the events of the novel are happening in real life! What will he do to survive this great calamity and what will reading this novel do for our fateful protagonist?
Review
It's hard to talk about a text without it being finished and so the rest of this should be taken with a grain of salt. The story is about a man who has to manage the fall of civilization as individuals are forced into a gladitorial fight for the death. I enjoyed it decently given that the action and the abilities are all quite interesting. However, I felt as if there's just a lot missing. For example, the main character takes on a non killing pact and instead of exploring how his relationship with the world would change, he ends up not killing people by having his allies hit the final blow. It seems as if the diagetic elements imply deeper thematic implications but none of these thematic elements are developed. All in all, its an enjoyable but disappointing read.
