Help! I am looking for another Japanese drama to watch. However, my queue is only filled with BLs right now and I wanted to venture outside of the genre a bit. So my question is - do you have any favourite non-BL doramas to recommend? (Preferably not romance-oriented, but any genre will do)

Ooh, fun one. I do have a few I've seen that might be interesting to you, though honestly I do find that Japanese queer media is more to my taste than their more mainstream het stuff. Here are a few to try:

Koisenu Futari

Honestly on my hands and knees begging everyone to watch this fantastic drama about two people on the aroace spectrum who form a platonic bond and create their own kind of family.

Silent

This one has romance, but the narrative is not about romance. It's really about the process of coping with becoming disabled, the harm caused by abandoning your loved ones in a fit of noble idiocy, and the slow repairing of relationships. So good.

One Room Angel

An utterly beautiful show. Though it aired as part of Drama Shower, it's not actually a bl. This story is about healing from trauma and finding a reason to live. It’s also one of the most visually stunning shows of the last year.

She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat

Only just barely a romance, this is the female WDYEY and it's so precious. Two women develop a close bond and learn about themselves as they form a relationship around one cooking meals for the other.

Monster

This is a movie but I simply had to include it. I am not telling you anything about the plot, but it's excellent and a must watch for Japanese cinema fans, IMO.

Chugakusei Nikki

It wouldn't be a proper jdrama list without some taboo content! This is a serious, deep, thoughtful exploration of what happens when feelings develop between a teacher and student, and the fallout that comes with it. Probably the best treatment of this trope I have ever seen.

Rinko-san Wants to Try

This one is a romance with some classic tropes, but one I think does some really interesting things with gender dynamics and sex positivity. It's a fun watch!

has more experience with loss and grief than she'd like to admit: when she was a kid her grandmother followed a vision into the lake and never returned, and her father died not long after of a sudden heart attack.

her mother's health has always been inexplicably bad - she was only a librarian for like 20 years before her vision gave out, and nowadays she is mostly permanently bedridden. her mind is still sharp though, and she's still the best storyteller in town!

aria has a younger sister and they were pretty close growing up but they dealt with the family hardships in very different ways and it became very clear that they would grow up to be very different people. the wanted ad is coming SOON btw if you have a friend who wants to join the rp but doesn't have a character set in mind yet,,,,,,,,,,,,, hmu

SO ABOUT HER VISIONS much like her grandma, aria sometimes sees a bright light that calls out to her - it started when she was very young and she feels connected to it when she sings. in very emotional/stressful situations, that bright light reveals itself to be a vision of herself, but in a different form; almost as if there is a tear in the physical space before her, and behind the opening is a different world in which she is brave and free. as a kid she named the person in the vision narae (korean given name that means "wings") because, well, she had wings! and white hair! and a bow and arrow! yes, you're thinking of invu era taeyeon.

no one else can see narae so of course very few people actually believe her, and over the years she's kind of given up on telling people about it. narae is special to her and she'd rather be alone in the woods than spending time in town with people who don't believe her lkdjaf

she still sings constantly though! she loves wandering into the woods and calling out to narae through her singing, and also like. just because. she also sings to herself while reading, writing, doing chores, or basically anything else other than teaching.

oh yeah she's 32 going on 33 her bday is very soon please gift her cute notebooks and flowers thanks :3

she let a local kid cut her bangs and she regrets it deeply but she'll pretend like she loves it a lot in public

Author's Note: Some smuttiness to start off the year with a bang... cause you lil freaks seem to enjoy that. This is from my upcoming fic "Tempest Winds". On that note I am looking for beta readers / proofreaders so if you are interested, hmu!

Vash wakes early in the morning with the sunlight creeping in through your room's window, he places a kiss on your head and nuzzles his face into your hair. His actions wake you from your sleep and you squeeze him a bit, holding tight and pressing your forehead into his chest.

"Good morning!" you whisper into the small space between your bodies.

"Morning, Sweet Pea!" his breath ruffles your hair. "So where do you want to go? Where should we head to?" he say as he snuggles you closer, he's like a giant snake wrapping himself around you, his long limbs engulfing you, holding you tightly.

You run your nails gently over his back and feel him shiver under your touch, soothing the tickle with the palm of your hand.

"Where do you suggest we go?" you ask.

"More East? Or would you rather take a steamer from Terminal?"

"I would avoid the steamer, I feel like there are too many people."

"Then we will stock up on some food and water and head East and perhaps North after that to September or November." his hand is tightly holding the small of you back, making your bare skin tingle. His head shifts and you feel his breath by your ear.

"Have I told you how wonderful you are?" his voice so low and tender, "You are beautiful, strong and kind. You're funny and tough and the fire burning in you is so warm." he pauses for a moment, "I am so glad I found you and I will keep following you across any desert no matter how hard you try to get rid of me! Cause you are stunning in every single way. My lovely Sweet Pea!"

His hand traces under your shirt on your back and he hugs you again, his heart feels like it's on fire, the same flame that burns in your eyes, the untamed and wild inferno. Once again he feels so much, like he is going crazy, the desire to be with you, to hold you and keep you safe. The feelings so overwhelming they almost feel aggressive. But it's actually nothing but love.

Your fingers trace the curvature of his body, the high points and valleys of his muscles. You feel the different textures of his skin under your fingertips. You trace over his chest, down over his abs and bellybutton, creeping onto his hip and up along his side. You take your time to truly appreciate his body for what it is. His tight hug restricts your movement, but you end up moving your hands onto his back. At the start you feel it with your fingertips, the augmentations, the scarring and his skin that's still whole. You try to remember every inch of it, to burn it into your memory. With the second pass you use your nails, scratching his back gently and it sends shivers up his spine.

Vash lets out a little moan by your ear when you trail over an especially sensitive spot. Your face is still buried in his chest, your nose filled with his comforting scent. His hands touch your back, traveling gently over your skin and feeling the dip of your side, grabbing at your waist. You hear his heart beating hard and fast, a certain stiffness in his arms. The breathing by your ear is deep and quick. It feels like your insides are on fire, despite the comfort this doesn't make you feel calm and peaceful. The feeling is intense and raw, it's rough around the edges, the flow of it so strong it carries your hand to the waistband of his pants, feeling the edge of it, your fingers between his skin and the drawstring. Your other hand is looking to grab hold of something, traveling up and intertwining with his hair. Your body tenses, squeezing his leg between your knees and you look up to find his face, but before you can focus on that, his lips are on yours. They seem to try to be gentle at first, but quickly turn into the mouth of someone with an unquenchable hunger. His lips force yours to open, his hand on your side pulling you up, closer to him. The other one slides down onto your ass. Your fingers are pulling on his hair as your other hand finds the front of his pants.

He holds you as he rolls onto his back and it takes minimal adjusting for you to end up sitting on him with your legs to either side. His hands grab the back of your thighs pulling you up a bit more before sliding over your sides, bunching up your shirt as they go. Your hands travel along his arms, moving his hands onto your breasts before leaning in, his parted lips already waiting for yours. His hands squeeze the soft tissue through your underwear and it makes you exhale. The pressure on your chest disappears as he grabs your shirt to pull it over your head, breaking the kiss. His hands greedily move over your back onto your shoulders and neck, the straps of your bra slipping down.

He turns again, pinning you between the bed and his body. His lips move from your lips to your neck, over to the collarbone. You find yourself holding his hair again as his kisses reach your chest, trailing diagonally across before pushing the underwear out of the way to focus his lips and tongue on one of your breasts. A moan escapes you and his hand moves down your body in-between your spread legs. You feel the metal stroking you through the fabric, making both your desire and his burn out of control. It feels like nothing is enough, like you've waited for something your whole life and it's in your reach at last.

His other hand travels under your curved back to undo the hooks of your bra. You want to feel him, all of him, you want to grab him, squeeze him, stroke him, dig your nails into him. He drives you wild by moving down with his kisses, removing his weight completely as he kneels between your legs, holding both of them for a moment. You see his eyes, there's an edge to them you don't normally see, a fire much like the one you feel. He lifts your leg to rest on his shoulder as he glides his hands to your thigh to undo the clasp of the gun holster and put it aside. He releases that leg and repeats this with your other one to remove the knife sheath. His hands move down your thighs over your ass and hips to undo your pants. It feels like he is teasing you as he pulls off your pants. He lays down again, coming closer as soon as they are off, one of your legs between his as he kisses you again, one hand keeping him up, the other exploring your bits through the thin fabric of your underwear before pushing it to the side and playing with you. The breathy moans sounding out his name are music to his ears as his lips move onto your neck again.

One of your arms is thrown around him, your nails digging into his back, the other has untied the drawstring and is feeling him down, stroking along the length of him before pushing down his pants. The hunger still growing in both of you, the desire to explore more of each other.

So much for leaving early. The two of you lost all control, chasing pleasure from each other's bodies, by any means, in any position, by doing anything necessary to coax out the release of the other in moans. Both of you getting increasingly rougher, testing each others limits, both of your bodies healing away any marks the other leaves by biting, grabbing, squeezing or clawing. His fingers digging into your flesh left bruises for just a moment, them changing color as he watches. The pain stimulates both of you further. You only stop after both of you are out of breath and out of your minds from the ecstasy.

You're both covered in bodily fluids and sweat. A shower sounds like a great idea to both of you to cool down the fire burning in your chests and to clean up before leaving this town. Of course you go together, deeming that the shower is big enough for both of you. However the attempt to calm you down is thrown aside as soon as Vash watches you step under the water, the droplets wetting your hair and running down your body. He steps closer, his flesh arm wrapping around you under your bust and the other moving up to wrap his fingers around your throat, not actually squeezing but pulling you backwards into him. Vash's lips land on your shoulder, leaving sloppy kisses on it as the water drenches both of you. You feel him lightly between your legs. One of your hands covering the one on your neck, the other looking for balance from the wall. His flesh hand slides down over your stomach, leaving a burning trail behind and his fingers find your folds still dripping from before and start to gently stroke up and down before focusing on the bundle of nerves with slow, but firm circles. Your eyes shut close as you lean more into him, his arms holding you tight. His movements become faster as your pleasure grows slowly. You feel him twitching and it seems almost like you can sense his desire too.

His prosthetic moves from your throat around you again pushing on your upper back and forcing you to bend forward a bit, both your hands on the wall as he kneels down behind you, to worship you. He forces your legs more apart before digging his mouth and nose into you, using his tongue and fingers to make you lose yourself all over again, eyes shut tight, the only thing on your mind is the feeling he brings forth. He enjoys you being like this, he senses your helplessness, like you can't do anything while your fingers curl on the tile, looking for something to grab on to. He tastes you and himself from your past explorations and the hunger grows. Like something unnatural taking over, both of your desires feeding into the other's. He teases you to the point you can no longer hold on and your legs nearly give out as they treble.

He feels you slumping more forward against the wall, sticking your ass up and instead of letting you recover his hands grab your cheeks, his long fingers digging into your hips, his palms spreading you apart as he gets up behind you and pushed his lower half against yours. The water of the shower hits both of you as he grinds between your cheeks for a moment making you gasp before inserting himself, pulling you against him in a quick motion. You have a feeling this won't stop any time soon and you are glad about it. Both of you are happy to release a part of yourself that's normally under lock and key, a wild and unapologetic rough persona.

I have had NO time to play lately fr. And when I have played, I've been growing Ichiban's social network, picking stuff off the ground and taking pictures. AND killing hundreds of evil santas at the mall because their money yield levels are nuts and I want good gear.

But. I HAVE also made progress with the main plot too. And have had time to... process it a bit.

Yeah, I got to The Reveal :) I am Suffering :) Got to the beginning of chapter 5.

So. What witty lil' thing am I supposed to say here? Like... fuck. Just. Fuck. It shattered my heart to see him break the news with this smile I can't interpret. I mostly see a man who's accepted his fate and made his peace with it, which would be in-character considering... well... *gestures at this man's entire life and then the way he was in Gaiden*. I feel like I'm sadder and more bitter than Kiryu himself is about the whole situation. Or maybe he's just hiding his true feelings very well.

I hate the fact that Kiryu's disadvantaged position in society as an orphan keeps hurting him even this late in life. It feels so unfair, it hurts, it's... incredible writing.

....yeah. Not even remotely surprised. This is just Kiryu in a nutshell. Always looking for people in need of help, a job that needs to be done, a cog he can help turn. He's always looking for a purpose; something to keep him going. And while that's something most people want, I feel like Kiryu is always living to be able to benefit other people. Very noble, but not healthy.

The start of Y3 felt like the closest we'll ever get to him properly settling down and BREATHING for once. I can never go back to that game without breaking down, huh.

Ichiban's overall reaction to the reveal surprised me. I know he's VERY compassionate and caring, but he felt so genuinely distressed it was almost shocking to me. I know they had like... mutual respect and trust going on in LAD, but I didn't get the vibe that they were THIS close. Maybe I have to go back to their shared cutscenes from LAD again. Or maybe Ichiban just feels that strongly, especially after this brief... thing they've had here in Hawaii. Nothing wrong with that at all. We love and respect Ichiban in this house.

Ichiban and Tomizawa... hmu. I will give you soup and warm cinnamon rolls. No questions asked, no need to pay.

Kiryu... please, for the LOVE OF GOD, let them help you. Let someone help you. No, don't just let them help you help others, LEAN ON THEM.

Love to see how effectively Ichiban brings out the sass in Kiryu. This dynamic is peak. They're so silly together.

Okay so I already kinda have a team I really like and everyone works well together?? How the hell am I supposed to pick 3 people when the old squad (besides Eri, RIP my MVP queen 😔) is definitely coming back as well? Tomizawa and Chitose have grown on me so I don't wanna bench 'em, and I will literally be 6 feet under before Kiryu even looks at the bench, so... I'm in trouble 😭

I'm gonna have to see if Tomizawa and Chitose can be built around Ichiban and Kiryu, or if others will fill roles better. If anything's gonna make me bench 'em, it's going to be my hyper-optimizing, excel-sheet making brain that loves to make my teams as BROKEN balanced as possible.

OKAY ALSO. That better not have been it for the Barracudas. Like, for real. They were portrayed as SOOO spooky and dangerous and they honestly felt like The Threat to me. Are they really folding this early? I hope not.

Omniscient Reader - okay so ORV is the mega worm of all worms in my brain. It lurks in the dark and occasionally slams all the other little worm bundles away. I cannot recommend this one enough. You will be hooked! Lots of incredible world building, loveable characters, a driving plot that keeps you interested, and the character growth and development in the story is soooo good. Plus lots of subtext between the "life and death companions" haha (webtoon tones down some things :/ but the novel is steeped in it)

The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't A Guy At All - aka green lesbian manga. Aka best highschool romance lesbian manga I have read this year. A gyaru meets an edgy "guy" at a music store, falls for him, realizes he's actually the girl that sits next to her in class, and they fall in love. There's way more to it than that. The art is also amazing!! And it's very heavily music themed. 100000/10 please read if you havent

Paper Teeth - Avery is a vampire hunter turned vampire in an unfortunate accident she doesn't recall. She is also an absolute disaster and a danger to herself honestly. Emotionally stunted, an absolute idiot, and just so relatable

when did you join ? what made you join ? what do you remember from the plotlines that were current at the time ? where were you in life when you joined and where are you now ?

i was in college! april 2018. but i was looking for something new to join. i liked the political aspect of the rp, it was still a pairs rp with the alliance system that seemed fun. i was in the middle of my political science major so i liked the idea of using what i was learning. also the main was very pretty. a lot of it was new to me, that's when we were all using icons and i didn't know what the heck small text was.

which characters have you written over the years ?

elyse, my little nightmare. she grew up with me it feels like. i was studying nationalism and populism in my undergrad degree and i wanted to play with those styles of politics. she's so screwed up but i love her. her insecurity and the way that makes her clings to her choices, even when they are clearly bad. i think we all do that sometimes, we fear something and the create the situation that we fear. honorable mention to my baby michael and my favorite villain domas/daisuke who would just plan fun.

GENERAL Lorroakan is in his mid-late 30s, fairly young considering his achievements (mostly obtained through deceitful methods).

He presents himself as the great archmage of Baldur's Gate, but while he is a compentent wizard and keen enchanter, he is nowhere near as powerful as he claims to be.

Lorroakan laid claim to Ramazith Tower after its previous owner mysteriously disappearend, and he refuses to share the knowledge it holds (at least for free).

He is originally from Athkatla, one of the wealthiest cities in Faerun, but he grew up in the shadows of its splendor. His family (mother, father, two sisters, four brothers) could barely make ends meet, but Lorroakan has always been ambitious and harbored dreams of one day being just as wealthy and powerful as the elite of the Gem District. The practice or use of arcane magic is explicitly illegal within the city of Athkatla, but that didn't stop him; he practiced in secret whenever he could get his hands on a spellbook.

PERSONALITY IN A NUTSHELL . . . as interpreted by the mun ; Ambitious, diligent, intelligent, clever, creative ; selfish, arrogant, manipulative, power-hungry, petty, vain.

He has a superiority complex ; he is vain, has an overly high opinion of himself, makes boastful claims that aren't backed up by reality, has a habit of putting down those who outshine him.

(The way I see it) Lorroakan isn't a straight up villain. However, his ambitions and narcissistic nature drive him to commit morally questionable, and at times, outright despicable acts.

You can call me Bibis, I’m 26 years old and roleplaying has been one of my hobbies for over ten years, I’ve been a part of the Bleach fandom for about that same amount of time too. However, I still haven’t finished reading the manga (I’m always working and when I finally have some free time I have no energy to do anything guys, help). But I’ll eventually finish it, I swear… Or I’ll at least watch the anime bc I’m super hyped about this revival. ANYWAYS, yes, this is just a heads up that I do know some things about the last arc of the manga but not everything. would i rather plot first or jump right in and see where it goes?: develop their relationship first | jump right in | something in between ( alright, alright! so before i start... i just wanted to say that that titanic reference in your ask got a good chuckle out of me so thank you for that LOL. but as you may know already, i kind of like to do a blend of planning as well as just winging it whenever it comes to dynamics, including romantic ones or something that is adjacent to it. so i would of course love to hear your opinion about my choices here and stuff + as a result, totally feel free to hmu here in IM's or ask for my discord! and that way, we could talk about it :D but there's no pressure at all to get to it now or even later if you don't want to OFC. however, let me explain why i chose unrequited love in particular here first.

because barton has this thing against joker in pretty much... well, all universes, i'm not going to lie — i cannot imagine that he would want to accept that he has feelings for her in the case that he did and would just try to brush it off as that he just feels incredibly close to her in a way that is hard to explain BUT is still only platonic in nature. and in the event that this would be a thing... if your joker happened to like him romantically as well, then once he found that out, barton would be likely to deny his feelings for her even more and tell her that he doesn't feel the same way. which wouldn't be done out of any ill intent for her. i just genuinely feel like he would be stuck between thinking that 'oh, maybe i just like her a lot platonically' and 'well... uhh, friends don't think about friends that way, so maybe not' 💀

so yeahhh. this would basically be a case of barton complicating things yet again, as he always does / j LMAO i'm just kidding but i was thinking that eventually there might come a time where he's no longer able to deny that he does hold some form of affection for her, especially since it's been left to fester within him for a while rather than him actually properly dealing with his feelings. and that would be where the enemies to lovers / possiblyyy enemies with benefits would come in? yeah, because i did add a few things up there that i thought would fit them since a lot of the other's weren't really doing that for me. but i could perhaps imagine them just sort of having sex out of just the pure hatred they have for one another. though they miiight harbor a degree of care / genuine attraction for each other in a weird way? idk, it was kind of like i was saying above in that i could see it being a bit complicated.

i also like the idea of them getting together every once in a while and maybe grabbing a bite to eat or something, with it being left ambiguous as to whether these are actually just friendly dates or DATE dates. but then one of them figures out that, yeahhh, they've been considering them to be romantic dates unbeknowst to the other person until they reveal it. the joking flirting is something that i could picture joker doing, personally, and something barton might do as well at unexpected times / in very covert ways to the point where he doesn't even know that he's flirting with her. that's about what i've got for them right now however so if you like my ideas, and/or if you wanna discuss them, then i'm always down for that!)

anything else i want you to know about me / my character / my shipping habits: ( hiii, fifi! i honestly don't think i have much else to say but who knows... i might surprise myself LMAO but anyhow, we had talked about this very briefly so it's completely understandable if you don't really remember it, though whenever we were chatting in PM's - i recall telling you that joker is really one of the only people that barton feels like he can fully be himself around / that might understand him and he hates thinking about it. whenever you take into account what he does, however, it does make sense as barton had got a LOT of darkness within him.

but i feel like this could be the catalyst or at least one of them for barton potentially beginning to like her romantically. and i think i might've said something about this too, but the hate that he holds for her is partly due to barton seeing some of himself in her, i think. so i believe that would be an interesting thing to explore between them 👀 though i believe i'm going to end this here by saying that i like to think i am rather flexible whenever it comes to ships, again. so if there was a dynamic here that i didn't either italicize or bold that you had in mind for them then by all means...
