Born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Stone Mountain, Hugh Thompson served as a Warrant Officer in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. It was in this capacity, commanding a Hiller OH-23 Raven light observation helicopter, that Thompson and his crew began to notice a large number of civilian corpses in Son My village, the result of the My Lai Massacre by American troops against Vietnamese civilians. Thompson and his crew confronted the soldiers committing the killings, saved what civilians they could, and ultimately ended the massacre by threatening to shoot the American soldiers with the helicopter guns. Thompson was disgusted with the Army coverup of the incident, and discarded a Distinguished Flying Cross citation he received which fabricated the details. When news finally broke of the massacre in 1969, Thompson testified about it to Congress, and received strong rebukes from conservative Representatives and citizens who thought he should have been court-martialed for turning his guns on his fellow American soldiers. Thompson retired from the Army in 1983 with the rank of Major, and in 1998 returned to Son My to meet with some of the people he and his crew had saved during the massacre. He died in 2006.
I'm currently re-reading a new edition of Emma, with illustrations by Hugh Thompson, and laughing at Mr Knightley's bromance with his 'dear William Larkins'. Instead of the smirking footmen in Emma (2020), which is nothing new, we need an adaptation with William Larkins and Mrs Hodges! If you're going to throw the servants into the mix, at least let Jane set their personalities. For some reason, I imagine Timothy Spall as Mr Larkins:

Hugh Thompson's courageous stand against injustice during the Vietnam War serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of doing the right thing, even in the face of overwhelming opposition. His actions echo through time, drawing parallels with the ongoing struggle for justice and human rights in Palestine, and the fight against billionaires' influence on our politics and elections. May his bravery inspire us to challenge the status quo, advocate for social change, and demand a government that truly represents the people, not just the wealthy few. #HughThompson #BattlefieldCourage #VietnamWar #Palestine #SocialChange #GetMoneyOut #NotMyBoss #PeopleOverProfit #JusticeAndAccountability #military #army #airforce #navy #veterans #soldier #MilitaryFamily

More PSII Text Adventures stuff in the style of the C64! This time it's the themes from Huey's adventure. I kind of fudged it a little on the battle theme this time, but I hope it can be forgiven because I did everything in my damn power to make the main theme sound relatively good.
For a minute I didn't even think I would be able to loyally recreate the main theme (it seemed like it would need four channels instead of three) but I managed to make it work, so I'm proud of myself, even if it sounds kind of abrasive.
