Fantasy Film Fantasy Casting

Instead of reboots and remakes and thises and thats, it would be fun to see a movie about Michael Moorcock's sword-and-sorcery anti-hero Elric of Melniboné.

It would need a plot, a screenplay and a budget, probably a big one, but casting the title character might be easy enough.

Fantasy Casting the Active Primarchs

Brad Pitt as Roboute Guilleman

Bear with me here—Dark Imperium describes the reawakened Guilleman as a classically handsome blond man who is showing his age (Rob's a few hundred thousand years old after all) while still looking like a statue of perfection. So yeah, pretty much Brad Pitt in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Liam Cunningham as Lion El-Jonson

Cunningham is only two years older than Pitt, but people age differently(to the Lion's frustration). Beyond his stately looks, Cunningham can bring exactly the vibe of the tired knight whose righteous fury has been quieted by the years.

Richard Brake as Mortarion

First of all yes, this is me casting my favorite character actor as the Primarch of my own faction. But with his sunken looks, bright eyes, and ability to go from sympathetic to terrifying at no notice, Brake will make a fantastic pale king.

Dave Bautista as Magnus the Red

Magnus is a huge muscular guy, but then you realize his whole thing is being a total nerd: a book-loving D&D wizard who never stops thinking about the Warp. Bautista is the perfect actor for that dichotomy.

Derek Mears as Angron

You could say that any great big guy could play a berserker monster like Angron, but Mears is a a great big guy who's particularly great at playing monsters. And Angron's had a rough go of it, so he should have the best.

Tilda Swinton as Fulgrim

Even setting aside the inevitable Slaaneshi androgyny, the serpentine Fulgrim should present a different archetype of strength from his brothers, and a hissing, slithering Swinton is just the level of weirdness required.

I'm currently re-reading a new edition of Emma, with illustrations by Hugh Thompson, and laughing at Mr Knightley's bromance with his 'dear William Larkins'. Instead of the smirking footmen in Emma (2020), which is nothing new, we need an adaptation with William Larkins and Mrs Hodges! If you're going to throw the servants into the mix, at least let Jane set their personalities. For some reason, I imagine Timothy Spall as Mr Larkins:

Can't believe I'm saying this but Sophie Ward wearing very Grace Kelly clothes in Miss Marple: A Caribbean Mystery (1989) is actually just as delicate and elegant as Grace Kelly and even has a somewhat similar face. She should have played her in a biopic.

Nothing like as saucy as Grace Kelly though.

This is more about personality, demeanor, and speaking style than looks, but we did adjust for looks when we registered their descriptions.

These are the actors our brain sort of automatically put in these roles as we’ve read their scenes and chapters. Under the cut for people who don’t want their vision polluted by ours:

Alexander Belanger - Charles Dance

Lawrence Bristow - Oliver Platt (was Stephen Fry until hist very last scene and physical description, then all previous scenes were replaced with Platt, with just a mustache)

Raymond Sunshine - Alfred Molina (obviously skinnier and with longer hair)

Abraham Musser - Jeff Bridges (or, possibly, Dan Akroyd with long bleached hair)

Ms Dorucher - Helen Mirren (but with dark hair for some reason)

Bonus: We hear Toadswallow as voiced by Michael Cain

there's something so poetic about kipperlilly copperkettle—who hated one of her classmates for daring to be better than her and having a dead dad, who refused to improve herself and instead chose to be bitter and entitled, who was so obsessed with being Special and Important like she felt she deserved that she willingly worked with a rage god, betrayed her party, and killed her friend—getting killed by fucking. Hold Person. her fancy optimal build IMMEDIATELY folding in the face of riz's cleverness and experience and applied knowledge. she spends years fixated solely on racking up EXP and getting the Best Abilities, and then when she dies, she's killed not in glorious combat but by a clever, practical application of a 2nd level spell that she NEVER would have ever thought of using because she has no creativity or adventurers' spirit, cast by the same classmate she always hated with a watch his dead dad gave him.

The bad kids are an incredibly healthy and supportive friend group BUT OH MY GOD THEY SUCK AT COMMUNICATING!

Half of their problems would be solved if they talked to each other.

Fabian would GLADLY pay for Adaine's components and for Riz's tuition if they asked. He would even get his papa to change his trust fund conditions to include them. Or he would declare Riz and Adaine his nemesis.

They would figure out the reason for Fig's misfortune in a week max. They would march into hell, probably accompanied by both Gorthalax and Sandra Lynn, and demand to break whatever deal she made with whichever demon involved.

If Fabian even suggested he was lonely, the bad kids would organise sleepovers every night. He would circle between the Thistlesprings, the Gukgaks and the Mordred Manor. Lydia would pack him his own lunch.

Fig would immediately start promoting Cassandra's religion on all social media, and get her to thousand followers in a week. The rest of the bad kids would join without hesitation.

If Riz would finally admit the HUGE stress he is under, everyone, even Fig, would stop piling all the work on him and happily write their 10 page essays. They would convince him to see Jawbone, and enjoy his last years in high school. They would band together to find the rogue teacher within a day. They would make sure that Riz's resume is the most impressive CV that the universities have ever received.

They would all gather together to come up with music for Fig and Gorgug's new album. Fabian would choreograph their music videos, Adaine would come up with rhymes, Riz would bring a list of all their adventures, including motifs and connections made, to give her inspiration, Kristen would suggest to make parodies of classic camp songs from her old church.

Adaine would contact Aelwyn immediately to get dirt on Porter, to blackmail him. Gorgug would get permission for his MCAT exams by the end of the week.

And if she would stay on the phone a little longer and admitted how much she is struggling, Aelwyn would immediately return home along with her cats. Then she would drag her sister to Jawbone's door, and force her to give him the components list.

The problem is that even after all those years, after all those adventures, even after the forest of the nightmare king, they still each think of themselves as the weak link. As the person in the group that isn't allowed, doesnt deserve to take space, ask for help. Because they should be able to handle it on their own. Isn't that what adulthood is like?

They would abandon anything and everything to help someone else, as long as that person isn't themselves. As long as they dont have to show their amazing, incredible, powerful, and oh so compassionate friends how weak and imperfect they are in comparison.
