Insurrection - Part 2

While my parents were obviously very upset at the time, my brother was excited and wanted to go. The strangers, his uncle and grandmother, would take him with them when they returned to Sixam. Until then, my mother would teach them about her new technology.

The next few days, before they left, the rest of us tried to spend as much time with my brother as possible.

I admit that I was angry with him at first. I felt that he was abandoning me. Who was now going to help me with homework and make me laugh when I had a rough day at school?

Luckily, we managed to make up before he left. And I could see why he wanted to go – it was both an obligation and an adventure to him.

My father also had a heart-to-heart with my brother, the last night before he left for Sixam. It was a warm night and I could hear them outside my open window.

I know my father and brother both consider themselves true father and son, despite my brother’s origins. I hope spending time with his biological father on Sixam hasn’t changed that.

When the Sixams left, my dear brother left with them. I knew that it could take years before he would be able to travel back and visit us, especially if the wormhole technology never worked.

Trying to overcome the sadness of my brother leaving, my mother threw herself into her work. Sometimes I would barely see her for days, because she would stay late at the lab every day.

We now know that it was worth it, that she finally managed to secure a communication link, so we can get updates from my brother every few months, but she still hasn’t succeeded in establishing travel, and my brother is too busy to leave Sixam for a year or two just to visit.

My father tried to compensate for my mother’s constant working by spending more time with me.

But my father’s job was also very demanding, and I often spent my afternoons alone.

Most days, I only had Maggie for company.

But she was more than enough.

It’s not that I didn’t have friends, I had good friends at school, but I couldn’t exactly schedule playdates every single day.

One day, when I was alone at the playground, I saw a stray cat. She was limping and very dirty, and would not let me get near her, but I wanted to help her.

I spent the entire day trying to befriend her, and she finally let me pick her up so we could take her to the vet.

The cat had no chip or ear tattoo, and when no one came forward to claim her, my parents decided that I could keep her. I named her Winky.

Seeing how the veterinarian expertly diagnosed her problems and treated her while being kind and respectful made me realise that this is what I want to do with my life as well.

My parents tell me that I would play vet constantly, and bring home any animal I found. I was allowed to keep smaller birds and a couple of mice while nursing them back to health, but my parents helped me take any stray cats and dogs to the shelter, or I would have had an entire zoo.

A few years later, one of our neighbours had to move into a retirement home, and had to find a new home for her old dog, Milo. I had often been walking him for her, and she wanted me to have him. This time, my parents did not object.

Animals are what keeps me going, my reason to be courageous, kind, and disciplined. These are the qualities I will bring to Foxbury.

I didn't expect anyone to actually show up!" And we laughed, etc. And he signed my shirt right under my panic necklaces. It was awesome. And he said "I really hope to see you guys again soon!" I melted. lol

Then we left Ryan, and moved over to Jon. Jon was so awesome, like...Ryan was SO cute and stuff but he wasn't too good at conversing. But Jon was so talkative. I love him! So he signed my shirt and camera and took a picture with me and as I was looking at the picture he leaned over REALLY close and looked with me and said "Aww! Thats a cute one!" lol he was such a sweetie!

And after that everyone was kind of gone, so Jon gave us all hugs and thanked us multiple times for coming. And before we left I said "Can I ask something?" And Jon said "Sure" and I said "Do you guys like still talk to Spencer and Brendon?" And he said "Well, we've just been really busy with recording and stuff, so it's been hard, but I talked to Spencer on his birthday." So I said "Yeah, its just that a lot of people think you guys hate eachother." And he replied this: "Well...." Insert extremely long pause here. "Hate is a strong word...." 13. How does your Dark Urge feel about killing?

Ohhhhhh this is a good one I was hoping someone would ask

It feels bad.

I mean, it feels good, but it feels bad that it feels good. The game is pretty unequivocal about that: the only time durge doesn't feel like a diseased dying dog is when they're killing, which is euphoric by comparison. Cyrus tries to take as little pleasure in it as possible--I think his rage actually helps in that regard, numbing the mental effects of battle as much as the physical ones--but he also knows it's necessary sometimes, and he even finds himself reveling in it if he thinks the target deserves it. Of course, necessity & righteousness do little to ease the guilt that he might be indulging an appetite best left unsated.

Cyrus also has the Amulet of Lost Voices equipped and has a habit of talking to as many people killed by the party as possible. Just to know a little bit about them, their name at the very least. Just to remember, because there are so many other deaths he's forgotten.

These are his current stats, plus AC 15 & 51 max HP (though he's basically never at max asodijfaf)

(Side note: I edited the Blood Hunter mod to use wisdom instead of intelligence for his class abilities, but I couldn't find where to change the saving throws...)

His build is built around catering to Whisper of the Divine's homebrew aasimar subrace: harbinger. Per the mod description, harbinger aasimar are all about sacrifice, bearing the weight of the world on their shoulders, portending doom... you know, classic Cyrus Hawke stuff, but also very appropriate for the Dark Urge as the harbinger of their father's plan to, you know, kill every living thing.

The subrace's two abilities reflect this accordingly: Mark of the Harbinger (triggers at half health to increase damage but you take half that damage in return, with a substantial auto heal when the effect ends) and Penance of the Sin Eater (bonus action to bamph out wings; nearby enemies have to save or take damage each turn & you deal extra damage to them but also take that damage).

The idea for Cyrus' build, then, is to (a) trigger Mark of the Harbinger as often as possible (b) while increasing his chances of surviving always hovering around/below half health.

Blood Hunter helps with the first goal, since rites and amplified blood maledicts inflict damage, and Order of the Ghost Slayer gives Cyrus an extra blood maledict. He has the Curse of Bloated Agony right now, which deals damage to an enemy for each attack they make. Extra damage to them, extra damage to Cyrus to activate it.

Barbarian helps with both. The extra HP is nice (side note 2: i miss hit dice... give me that d12 PLEASE), while unarmored defense and reckless attack make him a more viable target for enemies. I almost always wait to trigger rage until he's close to or below half health, since I want the full brunt of incoming damage to activate Mark of the Harbinger, and then it really helps to mitigate damage once he starts leaking HP left and right.

The. Less expected consequence of all of these things is that Cyrus' damage output is. Bonkers. If everything has triggered right (and it doesn't always happen; Penance, Rage, and Blood Curses all take bonus actions so it can be tricky to get everything firing when I want it to), his damage is 1d8 slashing + 1d4 radiant (rupturing blade) + 1d4 radiant/lightning (blood hunter rite) + 3 (STR mod) + 2 (dueling fighting style) + 2 (rage) + 3d4 piercing (mark of the harbinger) + 3d4 slashing (Penance of the Sin Eater) + ostensibly 1-7 turns of wrath from bloodguzzler garb. So, you know, between 17 and 52 damage each turn.

And he'll take 4d4 damage in return, but, hey, that's what he's good for, right?

i mean this in the kindest way possible and it's even more about me than it is about you, but i also HAD a parasocial relationship with him for over two years, stepping away from twitter and only being here helped me a lot. also the movie opened my eyes big time, i ended up realizing that at the end of the day he's just a famous person, sure...he meant the entire world to me, but he did and continues to do so much questionable shit and the way he acted today was rude as hell.

i guess what i mean with all of this is...maybe taking a small break or seeing him without the parasocial relationship eyes will help you the same way it helped me. the way i was stanning both of them (i'm a larrie obvi) was just NOT healthy and it blinded me to a point where i truly believed them uncapable of doing anything wrong. realizing all of this after watching the movie was so upsetting that i cried FOR DAYS, but it got a lot better and i feel a lot healthier mentally.

you don't stop loving them, you just start seeing them for what they are: flawed humans that happen to be famous and can fuck up any minute, like the rest of us.

anyway im putting together his design rn it's great he's so good to draw wow. i say that every time i draw him but it's true.

i think the main reason i gave up on my dcd killjoy au last time was because i got a rlly good design together for brendon, ended up focused too much on him storywise, then realised i don't actually care about him enough to tell a story about him. this go around im focusing on travie and im having a lot more fun.

in the old au also i had melissa from the millionaires in there which was cool. i think ill be focusing on her too, ill make them co protagonists for no other reason than it's fun. im thinking melissa is the reason travie gets a chance to leave the city cause she pulls some sort of insane raid/attack/stunt/whatever near his workplace, he's like woah what the hell this is my shot. maybe helps her a little bit and she's like thx batt rat wanna get out of here. obviously he does. not an easy choice but like you know
