❛ what is it that you wanted to show me ? and why do we have to do this at night ― couldn’t you have waited until tomorrow ? ❜
@holdfastdanae || MOM ! 🥺
Thing is, yeah, technically, this absolutely could have waited.
The other thing is, no, Percy Jackson was absolutely not known for his patience.
(Mom knows this.
Like she needed to ask—)
But, see, he hadn’t found the time to do this yesterday (or . . . earlier that same day—? What time is it, actually?), he wasn’t going to successfully get any sleep until he did it, so. . . . All Percy hopes is that—for once—he’s woken her up for a reason she finds agreeable and not the usual Panic! But There’s No Disco! And when he’s taken her aside, she barely has the opportunity to even bother questioning him when he holds out the book he’s just as barely managed to keep being his back until now.
“I know you’re planning on, like, actually getting it published all official and such one day,” he explains, probably before she’s even had a chance to actually comprehend what he’s given her. “And, yeah, duh—you’re definitely going to, Mom. I mean, publishers would be stupid not to. In the meantime, I thought it’d be, I dunno”—Percy shrugs—“cool to actually see your work in print, y’know?”
He flips through some of the pages as if this is the first time he’s seeing them too. “I found—well, Paul kinda helped me find it. . . . There’s this website that lets you self-publish whatever you want, buy however many copies you want, the whole spiel.” Now, his attention skirts back to her face, hopeful, excited, proud of all she’s accomplished. “Until you’re out there selling millions of copies, I figure . . . you deserve a special one for yourself.” He pauses, then hastily adds within a grin, “And no, Mom. This couldn’t wait, thanks.”
