ShikaTema is the Best Love Story in All of Naruto.
Okay, so Kishimoto and Ikemoto might do better with Boruto. However, as far as Naruto is concerned, ShikaTema is the best love story hands down. Let me explain.
Naruto x Hinata - Naruto spent 19 years either being oblivious to Hinata's existence or thinking she was weird.
Sasuke x Sakura - This relationship was so abusive that it was borderline criminal. I'm glad it's better now. I like Sarada, but Sasuke did not deserve a wife.
Sai x Ino - This is one of the better love stories. They kind of hit it off from the beginning in a lot of ways. However, aside from the light novel, we don't know much about it.
Asuma x Kurenai - Also, one of the better love stories, but we kind of just saw that they were together one day. Then before we know it, Asuma dies before the birth of his daughter.
Minato x Kushina - Another one of the better love stories. However, we were kind of rushed through the love story, because their entire love story was told in the past for obvious reasons.
Obito x Rin - I guess this is a good love story. I mean it almost ended in the destruction of the ENTIRE world, and Rin was in love with Kakashi the entire time, but what can you do? Did Rin and Obito end up together romantically? I have no idea. In death, Obito reverted back to his 13-14 year old self and spent eternity with 13-14 year old Rin. Yes, that's kind of romantic, but let's be honest, they can only be so romantic before it just becomes creepy and inappropriate (assuming the never age).
Now, the big one: Shikamaru x Temari.
I mean one could argue that this love story began with Temari fought Ten Ten. It was the first time Shikamaru noticed Temari. He took one look at her, and said that she had already beat Ten Ten. Naruto asked Shikamaru how he knew that, and Shikamaru said that he would not tell Naruto if Naruto couldn't figure it out himself.
Shikamaru vs Temari is the first time that Temari noticed Shikamaru, and she was utterly unimpressed with him until the very end of the fight when she realized that she was about 2 seconds for losing if Shikamaru had larger chakra reserves. From that point on, Shikamaru was never far from her mind.
Fast forward, these two lovely characters don't see each other again until Temari has to save Shikamaru from Tayuya. Shikamaru underestimates Temari's abilities, and Temari effortless kills Tayuya with her wind scythe jutsu. After seeing this, Shikamaru compares Temari to his mother.
This is important, because earlier, Shikamaru had asked his father why he married his mother, and Shikamaru's dad was basically like, "A good woman can change you."
Aside from a broken finger, Shikamaru visits the hospital to see how his severely injured friends are doing. Temari scolds him for being too emotional, because it seems as though Shikamaru is about to give up.
Shikamaru's like, "I don't need all this smoke." He gets up to leave, and his father is basically like, "You coward, are you going to let this woman talk to you crazy and all your comrades die in the future."
Shikamaru starts crying and this is the first time we see Temari show genuine concern and empathy for Shikamaru.
The next episode, I believe, Shikamaru is the one to see Temari and her brothers off from the Leaf Village as they head back to the sand.
Now, I'm going to fast forward to Shippuden. Yes, there's a filler arc in which Shikamaru saves Temari from another wind user. Upon returning to the Leaf, I believe Temari helps Shikamaru in the ninja academy with the students, and Shikamaru sees off the Sand Sibling again. You get the point.
Moving onto Shippuden, the first time we see Shikamaru in the village, we see him with Temari. Naruto keenly asks if the two of them are dating. Both Shikamaru and Temari think the assertion is hilarious, but it's actually pretty accurate.
Why, because without going through an entire play by play of every time Shikamaru and Temari were together in Shippuden, I will say this. If there's a Naruto episode with Temari in it, there's about an 80-90% that Shikamaru will be in that episode too, and that he will interact with Temari in some way.
For example, the war arc episode in which Konohamaru challenged Temari to a fight. Shikamaru did not need to be in that episode. Yet, Moegi and Udon went and found Shikamaru, so that Shikamaru could break up the fight. That was when Shikamaru said how scary Temari actually was.
There's even a shot little bonus video in which Shikamaru said, "What if it was Shikamaru Shippuden instead of Naruto Shippuden?" The an opening screen appears on the screen, and there's a silhouette of Shikamaru and Temari on the opening screen.
Temari is a long distance combat specialist. I feel that Shikamaru is mid-distance at best, but yet, both of them were in the same exact campaign during the war, and where was Temari? She was standing right next to Shikamaru.
When Shikamaru got caught up in the infinite genjustu, he dreamt of Temari by his side as they mutually agreed that marriage sucks.
My point is, as I skip a ton of points, Kishimoto had built up a relationship between these two characters for nearly 20 years. Mind you, that these characters DO NOT live in the same village. Temari has very little screen time. She has so little screen time, that she has a new outfit dang near every other time that we see her. However, the majority of the screen time she does have is with Shikamaru. The relationship between these two was set long before the light novels from Shikamaru were even considered.

Prologue - Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Chapter 5 - Chapter 6 - Epilogue
You knew something wasn’t quite right as you started to regain consciousness. The summer breeze was gone now, as was the smell of flowers, but that wasn’t it. It was… weight. Something heavy was on top of you.
Wait, what?
You lurched forward suddenly, sending the weight sprawling off you and on to the floor with a yelp.
“Hey! What was that for?!” the weight yelled from somewhere on the floor.
Oh, this was your next 24-hour cycle.
“You will have 24 hours with the seven people you could love the most and who could love you in return. Learn so that you may choose wisely.”
Right, thanks, a bit late on the reminder this time because you had just tossed this day’s omega directly onto the floor. That was not what a good mate did.
More importantly though, you knew that voice.
A fluffy head of blond, spiky hair popped up over the side of the bed, the man it was attached to rubbing the back of his head and directing a grumpy look at you.
“Naruto?” you asked, delighted. You had been wondering if you’d be mated to any of your teammates during this thing, and here you were! It was also a relief to be paired with someone you knew a little better; you’d hopefully have more to say and less of a chance of asking the wrong question.
“Yeah?” he asked, climbing off the floor. “You totally need to say sorry for throwing me off the-oh fuck! Is that the time?!”
Suddenly, all traces of sleepiness and grumpiness fled Naruto immediately and he launched himself up on his feet and lurched to a nearby wardrobe before rifling through it.
“I am so late! Shikamaru’s gonna be pissed!” he whined, frantically grabbing clothes and trying to change and pack a bag at the same time.
You just watched him, scrambling to get your bearings. Naruto looked so different to the boy you’d met when you were still single digit aged children. His shoulders had broadened considerably, his voice was deeper and the way he held himself was different too.
You didn’t have to speculate over how you might have ended up with Naruto because you already knew. You’d been friends and teammates for years and you’d bonded over many shared experiences and traumas. You were incredibly close to Naruto, even after the long period away he’d spent with Jiraiya.
As you watched Naruto trip trying to pull up his trousers and get to the bathroom to brush his teeth at the same time, you thought about those early genin days. The sleepovers with Sakura, pranking mean shopkeepers with Naruto, shouting at Kakashi for being late… It was a little painful to think about those simpler days. Everything had changed so much.
After furiously brushing his teeth, Naruto emerged from the bathroom, little patches of toothpaste still lingering at the corner of his mouth.
“Ugh, I still can’t believe he didn’t wake either of us,” Naruto grumbled, picking up his bag and throwing it over his shoulder.
What? That sentence didn’t make any sense to you. Was someone supposed to have come round and… picked Naruto up for work or something? You got out of bed just as Naruto ran out of the room. You could hear his footsteps pounding down the stairs and you decided to follow him, leaping out of bed yourself.
You didn’t have time to explore the rooms upstairs, but if Naruto was going to work, then you’d have time to do so later. So many thoughts were running through your head as you went down the stairs that you couldn’t pinpoint one to focus on.
One thought became dominant when you saw the hokage robes and hat hanging by the front door. Was Naruto the hokage? Had he really done it? You couldn’t stop the grin from forming on your face. He was so impossibly amazing. You felt an overwhelming urge to hug him, but he had disappeared further into the house. You followed where you thought he’d gone, almost skipping as you did. You couldn’t believe that not only was Naruto hokage, but you were mated to him!! Naruto! Who was the hokage!
As you approached what looked like a living dining room, you could hear Naruto’s voice once again, although it was too low for you to make out any words. Who was he talking to?
You peered around the corner, conscious that you were in your pyjamas still, and saw Naruto crouched in front of the sofa, talking to someone. Only the back of their head was visible, but your heart lurched as you figured out who the man must be.
You watched as Naruto pulled a blanket over the other man’s shoulder, and even though he slapped at Naruto’s hands, he didn’t remove the blanket once it was there.
“-in pre heat, not dying, moron,” the man replied, just loud enough for you to catch the end of the sentence.
It was him. You were sure of it. The black hair, his voice. You watched as Naruto pecked him on the lips. Oh.
You ducked back into the corridor, feeling overwhelmed. It was there that you noticed all the pictures lining the walls.
The biggest one was from a wedding ceremony, with you, Sasuke and Naruto standing in the middle, a just visible Sakura and Kakashi stood on the edges. The second picture to capture your attention was one of you and Naruto each kissing one cheek of a very grumpy looking Sasuke. Then there was one from a dinner party, presumably after the wedding because all the clothes were the same. This time you spotted Iruka, Sai and Shikamaru there too.
There were pictures like that everywhere, on every surface and spare bit of wall space.
You, Naruto and Sasuke had… you’d…
Naruto had brought him back, you knew it must have been him, he’d then become hokage and the three of you had clearly got together.
It was… unbelievable, but you could see it. The more you thought about it, the more you understood.
Naruto walked out of the living room and into the corridor where you were standing, and you didn’t know what to do other than tear up and throw yourself at him for a hug.
“Woah, hey,” he said gently, wrapping his arms around you. It only made more tears appear to have him treat you so softly. “What’s going on? You okay?”
You just sniffed and squeezed him.
“Don’t cry,” he said, squeezing you back. “Because then I’ll cry, and I won’t even know why we’re crying.”
You laughed wetly and pulled back, rubbing at your eyes.
“Sorry, sorry,” you cleared your throat and wiped the last of the tears from your cheeks. “I don’t know what happened there, got overwhelmed I guess.”
Naruto nodded but looked towards the door anxiously.
“I really have to go, but I’m only going for the morning, I’ll be back this afternoon as planned, I promise!” he said, looking guilty over leaving you and Sasuke. “His heat isn’t supposed to hit until tomorrow, so everything will be fine, please don’t cry.”
Sasuke’s heat? Yes, you had heard him talk about pre heat earlier, that made sense. He must have thought you were crying because you were worried or overwhelmed about that. Naruto seemed to be hovering by the door, waiting to hear your response before leaving.
“Okay,” you said, pulling yourself together. “I’ll see you in a few hours, yeah?”
Naruto grinned.
“Believe it!”
And with that, he was out the front door like a flash, leaving you and Sasuke home alone. How many times had you imagined a scenario like this? Seeing Sasuke again in Konoha? Too many.
You walked towards the living room, towards Sasuke, like you were possessed. You had to go to him, to see him for yourself and know that he was okay.
You tentatively stepped back into the living room and around the couch until you could see Sasuke’s face. All the air felt like it was punched out of you. It was really, truly him.
His hair was differently styled, longer than you remembered, but just as inky black. The blanket that Naruto had draped over him was still there, covering what looked like lounge clothes, his cheeks were flushed and his eyes slightly hazy. Pre heat, your mind supplied, he was in pre heat.
It was weird to see him older, but weirder to see him in such a vulnerable state. He always tried so hard to avoid situations where someone might see him not on top form. But here he was.
“Good morning,” you whispered, still staring at him.
“Good morning,” came a quiet reply. And that was enough to overwhelm your common sense completely.
You surged forward and the last thing you saw before you pressed your lips against his was the slight widening of his eyes. You were desperate to touch him, your hands flitting from his face to his neck to his chest. You needed to feel him to know it was real. His hands were hovering in shock, but slowly they came to rest on your shoulders and his kissing back got more enthusiastic.
You kissed, and you kissed, and you kissed until your lips were warm and starting to swell. You were soothing yourself with his presence and he appeared happy to let you. The little noises escaping from him added so much to the kiss. When you bit his bottom lip, he gasped. When you sucked on his tongue, he moaned. When you put pressure on his neck with your hands, he basically melted into your grasp.
Your mind was going haywire. He was safe. He was home. He was in heat. And he was yours.
You eventually pulled away to breathe, but something was burning at the back of your throat as you panted. You couldn’t place the cause of it for a moment, but then it hit you like a kunai handle to the head.
It was the scent of slick.
Sasuke appeared to realise it at the same time you did. You saw him panic and start to close off and pull away, but you couldn’t let him pull away, not when the last time he’d done that he’d ended up with Orochimaru. So, you pressed forward again.
You reconnected your lips, but this time with enough force to knock him backwards. Once he was laying down on the couch, you climbed over him and hovered above his hips as you kissed.
Sasuke whined and bared his neck for you now that you were on top. It was pretty normal behaviour for an omega in pre heat being kissed by their mate, but it lit a fire under you anyway.
Had that night with Haku removed your awkwardness around sex completely? Because you didn’t feel anything but desire right now.
No, you just wanted to prove to yourself that Sasuke was real, and the pheromones he was pumping out were messing with your head, that sounded more accurate.
You had flashes of memories from last night invade your mind too, but you tried to push them away, fearing it to be disrespectful to think of another omega at a time like this.
You focused instead on kissing and biting your way down his neck. He was yours. Yours and Naruto’s too. Orochimaru couldn’t have him, you wouldn’t let it happen, not again, never again.
“Stop!” Sasuke said suddenly, voice weak and strangled. “Stop, y-you’ll trigger it early, I don’t want that.”
He pushed at your chest, and you climbed off him as requested. It was like a spell had broken. You could think clearly now, and you had no idea what that reaction had just been. You felt embarrassed that you had lost yourself like that.
You both panted for a while to catch your breath, you sitting on the floor by the couch while Sasuke remained laying on it.
Eventually, Sasuke started to squirm in discomfort. Probably from all the slick leaking into his underwear, which was something you tried very hard to avoid imagining and still failed. He got up, mumbling something you couldn’t make out before scurrying up the stairs, embarrassed.
You let out your own relieved breath as he left. That had been intense.
You sat for a few minutes, just sorting out your emotions towards the situation before you realised that you had an omega in pre heat that you had to look after. You didn’t know how to do that.
Let’s think, what were pre heat symptoms? You grabbed a pad of paper from the coffee table and wrote down a list of everything you could remember from your academy classes.
Pre heat symptoms
·         Large appetite
·         Sleeps more
·         Clingy w/ loved ones, esp. mates
·         Emotional fluctuation
·         Desire to nest and maybe clean/organise nest?
·         ???
You stared at the list, irritated that you had forgot most of the lessons on dynamics from the academy. Not that those lesson weren’t shit anyway.
Regardless, the list was the only thing you had to go on, so you should probably cook a bunch of food for when Sasuke eventually came down, and maybe after eating he’d want a nap? You could bundle him up on the sofa maybe.
Yeah, that sounded like a good plan! Or at least the best plan you had. And hopefully Naruto would be home after that. He would know what to do.
So, you stood up and found the kitchen and then started to cook anything and everything you could find in the kitchen to provide for your mate during his pre heat. You wanted to make sure that you were taking care of him like a mate should; Sasuke shouldn’t carry the burden for your ill preparedness, after all.
About twenty minutes later, Sasuke came back down in different clothes, his hair damp from the shower. You were still making up a tray full of food for him, thankfully future you had obviously stocked the kitchen in advance. You also felt confident that you had a good grasp on the kinds of food he liked, which took some of the stress away.
While you finished up the cooking, Sasuke fluttered back and forth between sitting in the living room with his blanket from earlier and coming into the kitchen to watch you cook in silence. His pre heat was likely making him feel lonely, but the kitchen didn’t provide as much comfort as the soft furnishings on the couch.
By the time you were done, you had filled the tray with all sorts of foods and snacks. Admittedly, you probably went overboard, but you’d never cooked for an omega in pre heat and you weren’t sure how hungry they got and you’d rather have too much than too little.
You carried the heaving tray into the living room where Sasuke seemed the most comfortable and slid it onto the coffee table. Sasuke’s stomach growled as you did so, and your inner alpha purred happily at the thought that you had predicted and met your omega’s needs.
Damn, this ‘being around an omega in heat’ thing was driving your instincts wild. You didn’t realise it would be so strong.
Sasuke didn’t say thank you, but he did press himself up against your side once you sat down, which was basically the same thing in Uchiha speak. He ate slowly and methodically, which made you worry that you had indeed made too much food, but despite his slow speed, he didn’t stop after one plate, or two plates, or three plates. In fact, he didn’t stop until the entire tray was empty.
Iruka sensei clearly hadn’t been lying about the hunger part of pre heat. You knew it was because of his need to store calories that would be burnt off during his heat and not so easily replaced when his appetite dropped. You had heard of omegas who barely ate anything during their heats, so it was the safest strategy to stock up beforehand.
When he swallowed his last mouthful, Sasuke sighed contentedly and put more weight against your side.
“How are you feeling?” you asked, pressing a hand to his forehead. He was definitely warmer than normal.
“I’m fine,” Sasuke replied, his words almost interrupted by a yawn. That’s right, he should be getting sleepy now. Along with conserving calories, omegas in pre heat also had to conserve energy in case their heat was intense enough to keep them awake for 2-3 days.
You pushed all the empty plates and cutlery onto the coffee table and made sure the couch was clear of all debris.
“Hey, why don’t you take a nap?” you said gently. The Sasuke you remembered probably wouldn’t take too kindly to such a suggestion, but this Sasuke seemed to begrudgingly agree because he pulled his blanket back around his shoulders and made himself comfy on your shoulder.
It was so cute that he immediately used you as a pillow.
You leant back to allow him a better angle and his breathing dropped almost immediately. He must have been tired.
As Sasuke dozed, pressed up against your side, you finally had time to think.
The first thoughts in your head were about Sasuke. You still couldn’t believe that Naruto had fulfilled his promise of bringing Sasuke home to Konoha and that he’d seemingly escaped any major punishment for his actions while he was a missing nin. It filled you with excitement for the day that your Sasuke would return home, whether that was in a romantic or platonic context, you weren’t sure yet.
It felt natural to go from thinking about that to thinking about the relationship you had with both Naruto and Sasuke in this version of your future. You wouldn’t have really considered such a thing, but that didn’t mean you didn’t fully understand how you could be happy with them. A lot of the things you had thought about Naruto earlier, also applied to Sasuke. All three of you had gone through so much together and you’d always be closer than close. And in this world, that closeness was apparently really close.
Like, really close, you thought as Sasuke breathed on your neck.
Also, you couldn’t lie, it would be worth picking this future just to see the look on everyone’s face, especially Kakashi sensei’s, when you mated both the team omegas.
Would Naruto and Sasuke get together if you picked someone else? Should you play matchmaker? That might be fun, even if you went with a different version of your future.
Wait! Your stomach dropped as you realised something pretty significant. The fortune teller’s repeated message had said you would be spending these 24-hour cycles with the seven people that you could love the most. You had assumed that meant seven cycles, of which this was six, but if you had two mates this time, then that meant you’d experienced all seven…
This was your last cycle.
You felt strange thinking about that. It felt like you’d only just started, it had gone so quickly, like a fever dream. Not that you were fully convinced that this wasn’t a fever dream still. Anxiety about making your decision started to grow in your chest, but you pushed it away as best as you could. You needed to enjoy this cycle, give Naruto and Sasuke their fair shot, and not worry about tomorrow. You could make your decision once this ended, but while it was happening, you would forget about it.
With those thoughts still floating around your mind, you drifted to sleep, the scent of a contended omega knocking you out faster than you expected.
It was the sound of giggling that woke you up in the end. You slowly opened your eyes part way, keeping them somewhat protected from the sudden influx of light, and you were greeted by Naruto in his full hokage gear, a camera clutched in his hands.
It was so weird to see him wearing the hat like that.
You tried to sit up only to realise something was pinning you down. You opened your eyes properly and your vision was partially obscured by a head of black hair that was purring away buried in your neck.
Sasuke had certainly moved quite a bit in his sleep, because you were now completely pinned under him. Now wonder you were feeling so warm; it was a mixture of the body heat from Sasuke and the embarrassment that Naruto had obviously just taken a picture of you both like this.
Naruto looked so giddy though, which soothed your embarrassment somewhat.
“Wanna play video games while he sleeps?” Naruto said quietly but with a huge grin.
“Hell yeah, I do,” you replied in the same tone. “But you’re going to have to help me out of here first.”
Naruto snorted, putting down the bags in his hands on the coffee table, just about managing to fit them around the breakfast debris, and coming over to extract you from Sasuke’s unrelenting grip.
It took about five minutes, but you were eventually freed, and Sasuke was left to doze by himself, now hugging a pillow that you had scented instead. Naruto had run to get changed while you tidied up the plates and cutlery and also had a nosey in the bags. Naruto had brought more food back with him, something that you were incredibly happy to see; you had a lot of food in, but not enough if Sasuke was going to eat like a one-man army for every meal.
When Naruto returned, you sat on floor cushions together in front of the TV. You were incredibly excited to see some future video games. Hell, even games that were from your time would be great because it wasn’t like you’d had time to play any recently.
Naruto picked out some sort of fighting game, which didn’t surprise you for even one moment, and you decided to chat with him while he set it up.
“How was work, hokage sama?” you asked, teasing him by knocking him on the knee with your foot. “Did you sign lots of important things?”
“Ugh, I don’t normally wish for that, but paperwork would have been a thousand times better than having to meet with the civilian council,” he grimaced. “I’m so glad Shikamaru knew stuff about the business fairs in Wind Country, because the council is wanting to start doing something similar here and I didn’t even know what they were.”
You snorted. Naruto was incredibly overpowered, but you weren’t sure he’d ever understand business or economics. You were pretty good thankfully, so you would be a gracious friend and offer to help on occasion.
Wait, Shikamaru? Was Naruto the hokage that had been partly responsible for overworking Shikamaru? Or was it the hokage before him? You did seem to be a bit older in this cycle than Shikamaru’s but still…
This man better hope he wasn’t the cause of Shikamaru’s breakdown, because your plans for when you returned would change from ‘help Shikamaru’s friends support him in making reasonable boundaries’ to ‘beat up your friend for causing problems’.
“That sucks,” you said instead of voicing your threat. “At least you’re home now, the council can’t get you here.”
Naruto laughed and passed you a controller.
“I wouldn’t put it past them to try breaking down the door. Anyway, are you ready to get your ass beat?”
You scoffed at his smack talk.
“You wish, fishcake boy, I’m going to destroy you!”
Naruto squawked in protest.
“You are not!”
“Are too!”
“In your dreams!”
You ended up winning the first round by the skin of your teeth. Button mashing was the superior tactic after all. Naruto was way too focused on combos and flashy moves.
“Whatever,” Naruto grumbled as you gloated in his face. “I would totally win in a real fight, that’s what counts.”
You knew that he was right. He was the hokage and you were mentally about a decade in the past, so there was no way you could hope to fight Naruto and win.
But you weren’t going to let that fact stop your banter.
“No, I would totally win,” you argued. “All I’d have to do is like, put a poisoned bowl of ramen in front of you and it’d be game over. Playing dirty with ramen would be my winning strategy.”
“Playing dirty with ramen, huh?” Naruto said, wiggling his eyebrows. “There’s an idea for when it’s time for my heat.”
“Gross!” you protested, pushing him on his shoulders. “You’re disgusting, Naruto.”
“Yeah? Are you saying you don’t want to lick ramen broth off my stomach?”
“Shut up,” you said, trying your best not to imagine it. “You disgust me.”
“Does this disgust you?” he said, before pouncing on you, sending you both to the floor. He covered your face in kisses while you squealed at him to stop. You decided to tickle him in revenge and soon you were both laughing and shrieking and out of breath.
Naruto was hovering over you, chest heaving, signature grin looking at home on his face, when he looked at something over his head.
“Oops,” he said, getting off you. “We didn’t mean to wake you, Sasuke, sorry.”
Oh, you had forgotten that Sasuke was there. You sat up, Naruto climbing off you, and turned to see Sasuke with a tremendously bad bedhead looking at you in return.
It took everything in you not to laugh at his hair, but something told you that if even Naruto had resisted from teasing him, you should avoid it too.
“Whatever,” he mumbled, getting up with his blanket still tucked around him. He walked over to you and Naruto and slotted himself in between you without acknowledging either of you. You and Naruto wordlessly shuffled to make room for him.
“Here,” Naruto said passing him one of the bags from the coffee table. “You should eat.”
Sasuke accepted the bag and immediately started digging through the snacks it contained. He ended up picking out a pack of onigiri to munch on while Naruto started up the next round of your game.
This was so domestic and lovely. You had never imagined there would be a future where you and Naruto and Sasuke would be here together like this, snuggled up on the floor, playing video games and eating onigiri.
At one point, Naruto attempted to snatch an onigiri from Sasuke, but he was promptly growled away.
“Alright, alright, I’ll grab something else,” he said easily, pressing a kiss to Sasuke’s head, something which only make him growl more. “Want something?”
He held the bag open for you and you spotted a few of your favourite sprinkled in. You gratefully grabbed one; you hadn’t had much of the food earlier because Sasuke had eaten most of it.
The rest of the afternoon was spent in much the same way, you and Naruto making your way through several video games, Sasuke, who slowly became more and more animated, giving his cruel and brutal commentary about how much you both sucked at them.
And if the bickering made you tear up a few times, well, no one appeared to notice.
By the time the evening had rolled around, you had all decided to relocate to the nest upstairs. Sasuke had started getting antsy and you were grateful that Naruto was there to understand that that behaviour meant he needed to go to his nest, because you were too ill informed on pre heats to pick that up and Sasuke was too stubborn to admit when he needed something.
This was the second nest you were invading during this weird time travel themed week, even though you technically had permission. It felt like wandering onto sacred land with the permission of the senile groundskeeper who had mistaken you for the deity the land was dedicated to. You had permission, but technically under false pretences.
At least Naruto and Sasuke were both your friends and teammates. That made it a little less weird than entering Kiba’s nest had been.
The nesting room was split in half, one side for Naruto’s nest and the other side, Sasuke’s. You could immediately tell which half was which.
Sasuke’s was filled with mainly dark colours, woollen blankets and a cute little shelf that had a bunch of things for a heat stacked on there. Naruto’s side was bright, chaotic, and filled with stuffed toys and cushions more than blankets. He also had a mini fridge on his side that he’d covered with stickers.
It was a weird visual.
Regardless, you all found your spot, favouring Sasuke’s side of the nest mostly, seeing as he was the one in pre heat.
“This feels like a sleep over,” you said, reclining backwards. “It’s like we’re about to start talking about crushes or something.”
Naruto laughed and picked up a pillow from his own side to throw at you.
“Or should we have a pillow fight?” he teased. “I mean, it’s not like any of our crushes will be that interesting, it’ll just be people already in the room.”
“It’s not a sleepover,” Sasuke grumbled, picking up the stray pillow and throwing it back to Naruto’s side of the nest. “And we’re not having a pillow fight.”
“Yeah, but I mean,” you continued, ignoring Sasuke for a moment. “We all must have had crushes before we got together, right? Like what about Haku?”
“Oh, Haku,” Naruto sighed dreamily. “I saw him the other day, he’s still super pretty.”
“He is,” you agreed, thinking of a very different encounter than Naruto likely was.
There was silence for a moment before both you and Naruto turned to Sasuke expectantly. Sasuke crossed his arms and didn’t say anything, but as the silence carried on, he turned his head away and spoke.
“Haku’s… nice looking,” he said reluctantly.
“Come off it, you totally had a crush on him during that mission! We all did!” Naruto said, indignantly. “You can’t fool us.”
“I did not,” Sasuke said. “He tried to kill us.”
“So?” Naruto replied, sounding unsure what that would have to do with finding someone attractive.
“You’re an idiot,” was the only thing Sasuke said, before he turned over on his side, facing one of the walls.
“Noooo, don’t ignore me,” Naruto whined, leaning over and poking Sasuke on the cheek. “You’re supposed to love me.”
“Get off of me,” he growled, shoving backwards. His words had no real animosity in them though, you were fluent enough in Uchiha to recognise that. “Dobe.”
Now, you’d seen Naruto and Sasuke fight many, many times before, far too many times in fact and the more recent times hurt your heart to think about, but what was ensuing in front of you right now was nothing like that… They were slapping at each other’s hands like children.
“This is like watching a puppy and a kitten playfight,” you muttered to yourself, never taking your eyes off the weirdly competitive hand slapping fight. You wished they would stop though, what was the best way to do that? Shock value perhaps?
“Well, my first crush was Iruka sensei.”
Both of them froze, blinking at you in sync, before-
“What!” Naruto yelled, before choking on his own spit. “What- but- how- Iruka sensei? Seriously? Why?”
Sasuke looked quietly horrified and was obviously thinking the same thing. You had succeeded in distracting them, but at what cost?
“Well, I guess, um,” you felt bashful under their incredulous eyes. “I don’t know he was so nice and reliable and a really good teacher and he has pretty eyes and an even prettier smile so-“
You kept babbling, not helping your case at all. Naruto looked like he was questioning everything in the universe while Sasuke looked a little green around the gills.
“He was our teacher,” Sasuke emphasised. “Our teacher.”
“I know that!” you said defensively. “I’m not saying I tried anything! It’s totally normal for kids to get crushes on their teachers, y’know, you don’t have to get weird about it.”
“Next you’ll be telling us you had a crush on Kakashi sensei,” Naruto said with a grimace.
“Ew,” was your only reply.
“Ew,” Sasuke added.
“Ew,” Naruto finished.
You all looked at each other for a moment and then burst out laughing.
You definitely needed to do more of this when you went back to your time, when Sasuke returned, and Naruto wasn’t so busy. You would invite Sakura too, Sai as well. You wanted this in your life so badly. Friends and hang outs and sleepovers and just, everything.
But you needed to be in the village more often for that to happen. You decided then and there, as you watched Naruto and Sasuke laugh until they cried at the thought of someone having a crush on Kakashi sensei, that you would figure out a way to stay in the village more.
You didn’t want to be miserable and alone forever.
You had all bantered and chatted for a while. It was fun to be with your friends again and interesting to hear more details about the years you hadn’t lived.
Apparently, Naruto had had a rather persistent admirer/stalker a few years ago that Sasuke took great pleasure in mocking, Kakashi had been the hokage before Naruto (and wasn’t that a wild thought) and apparently Sai had done a whole myriad of things that meant Sasuke scoffed every time someone said his name.
It was a top tier gossip session.
A top tier gossip session that had somehow ended with Sasuke’s cock in Naruto’s mouth.
“Not so fast,” Sasuke gasped, fisting a hand into Naruto’s hair. “Watch the teeth.”
Naruto rolled his eyes but obliged, slowing right down, likely much more than Sasuke had wanted because he bucked his hips in protest.
You were kneeling by Sasuke’s head feeling like a strange, perverted voyeur. You should definitely be joining in somehow, but all the confidence you had from earlier was nowhere to be seen. It was intimidating… maybe you should just start with something easier and more familiar.
Like kissing. Kissing worked.
You reangled yourself and bent down over Sasuke’s head, cupping his face with your hands. He seemed eager, tilting his head up, ready to receive your kiss. You kissed him slowly, forcing as much sensuality as you could into it. Sasuke was much sloppier than earlier, likely due to the activities of Naruto down below, but it didn’t matter to you. Being able to swallow all the little noises he made with your lips was incredibly hot and you were happy to do it.
Sasuke’s movements became jerkier and jerkier as time moved on. He was moaning more, gasping more, seemingly forgetting that he was in the middle of a kiss more. You snuck one hand down to his bare chest, not to focus on increasing his pleasure, but just to rub soothing circles on his chest. If pre heat was anything like pre rut, he would enjoy some soothing touches mixed in with the sexy ones.
“I’m going to-“ Sasuke seized and you pulled back to watch. His face contorted, little flashes of red visible behind his eyelids, and his toes curled. Naruto didn’t try to pull away, in fact, he seemed to push Sasuke’s cock further down his throat, sealing his lips around the base.
It was all over in a few seconds, but as you watched Sasuke collapse, panting, like he’d just had his soul sucked out and Naruto swallow with a cheeky grin and a wipe of his lips, it felt like eternity.
“Are you up next?” Naruto asked with a wolfish grin. “I think Sasuke needs a break.”
Just the insinuation that he needed a break had Sasuke opening his eyes and struggling to sit up.
“I shouldn’t do anymore, or my heat will trigger,” he said, like he was explaining why he couldn’t join without an insult to his stamina. “We shouldn’t have done that anyway.”
“That’s fine, Sasuke, don’t push yourself,” you said, wanting to be a supportive mate through the cloud of arousal.
“Yeah, that’s fine,” Naruto concurred. “You can just watch.”
By the end, you could add ‘Naruto has a magical mouth’ to the list of things you’d learnt on this cycle.
This was your final night like this, in the future. Your heart ached as you imagined returning to the loneliness that you remembered.
Stop, you reprimanded yourself, this whole thing was about knowing how to fix the loneliness, not returning to wallow in it. You would be fine. You could make a game plan during your first few days, and you would build a life you loved.
Sasuke snuffled a bit on your chest and shifted his position to be more comfortable. You were all laying together now, Sasuke on his side of the nest, Naruto on his side, and you in the middle. It was so comfortable that you fully believed they had coordinated the nests to allow a comfy spot for you in the middle. How sweet.
Naruto, on the other hand, was entertaining himself by fiddling with your hair, but his hand movements had been getting slower and slower as he relaxed further into the nest.
“Goodnight,” he said, yawning. “Don’t forget to wake us up if you go into heat, okay? That’s why we’re here.”
“Hn,” a very tired Sasuke agreed, not bothering to open his eyes. His head was a pleasant weight on your chest, and it was clear that he was already halfway to dreamland.
“Goodnight to you, too,” he whispered, leaning over and pressing his lips against yours. “I hope you sleep well because you’re going to need it.”
“Goodnight,” you whispered into the dark room. “To both of you. I promise I’ll cherish this day forever.”
And for the final time, you closed your eyes in the future, knowing that you’d open them in the past.
You didn’t quite finish deciding whether you were going to kiss the fortune teller or punch her in the face before your consciousness drifted away.

So, we start at the beggining.
Naruto begins as your typical shonen manga, introducing the quirky protagonist, the other characters and the story itself. This way, we meet a 12 year old child, mischievous, clumsy, very enthusiastic, goal-focused... But also a traumatised, lonely kid, who craves acceptance more than anything else, who wants to be valued and respected and, as most kids do, who longs for friends and family. This feelings of loneliness and of craving attention and affection are the key to Naruto's character and Naruto's story. Is these feelings that will drive our main character's actions throughout the beggining of Naruto the manga, is this feelings that will eventually lead Naruto to a journey of self discovery and love.
On the 3rd chapter it's time to form the teams. Naruto is very much excited because his grand dream at this time is to become hokage so that he can prove everyone that he is worth something, that he deserves respect, that he deserves love. So he looks forward to this day, he comes in class and sees his first love, Sakura. He really likes Sakura and even asks her if she'd like to sit with him, but Sakura seems to hate him, since he is so childish and bad at being a ninja. and also, because she is madly in love with Sasuke, who is sitting on the same bench as Naruto, just on the other side, sitting quietly and maybe just... observing. This is our first time seeing Sasuke, he is introduced as Naruto's ''enemy'' since he seems to hate him. Naruto thinks to himself that Sasuke is the guy he hates the most because he ignores everything that surrounds him, and, for some reason, this seems to annoy Naruto very much.
Sasuke is also introduced as Sakura's crush, although he doesn't seem to pay much attention to her nor any other person, and thus the love triangle is stablished, although for it to be a triangle some part is missing right?? If you get what I mean. But that is soon resolved since when Naruto sees Sakura so dumbfounded with Sasuke, he starts to wonder what does Sasuke have that he doesn't, and decides to get a closer look at him.
Tumblr media
So yeah, this happens. In the 3rd chapter. Why on earth would you, as a writer, make your two protagonists kiss if you weren't going to do something along this line throughout your story? Kishimoto has said that he thought it would be fun.... Yeah, sure. Even if that was the case and Kishimoto is just a stupid man with poor humor (that, I believe) with no iota of intelligence or abillity to narrate to know that by doing this you stablish some sort of future feelings of love between them, it's still what it is, and so we say that our interpretation of Naruto's and Sasuke's future relationship as romantic is completly valid and the correct one.
Now let's picture this as Sasuke's pov: you are a 12 year old manga boy who's so traumatized that have decided to just ignore your social development and has chosen to just focus on your revenge and your hatred, not paying attention to any other kid at school except this blonde kid who's always alone and doing silly stuff to get everyone's attention, a kid that is practically the complete opposite of him, but that somehow, catches Sasuke's attention with every action that he makes. Now said kid comes near you and is suddenly kissing you! And it's your first kiss and you were nervous about this whole team thing but now it's like nothing matters because what??? This particular kid is kissing me??? And in class?? (we know that Sasuke believes the kiss was intentional since it was mentioned in some official book or something so yeah).
This event leads to our theory that Sasuke likes Naruto, since the first time he laid eyes on him and empathized with his loneliness. He wanted Naruto to keep going, so that Sasuke could keep going himself. Sasuke saw hope in Naruto's conviction, and this eventually lead him to have feelings for him, eventhough Sasuke wouldn't understand this feelings until later.

Haruno Sakura is a timid girl in senior high school. She and Uchiha Sasuke, a popular student, are schoolmates and neighbors. They live in a high-rise condominium and their units are beside each other. They both keep their balcony doors open to get good signal for their mobile phones. Sakura always hears music from Sasuke's unit and figures that he loves listening to music very much.
Sakura: Ah, he's listening to Hisaishi.. That means he's studying.
At first, Sakura had no idea about his music preference especially because she didn't know what he's listening to. She learned how to google the tunes to know their titles. She took note of every single song in his playlists and recreated them for herself.
She learned that he listens to any instrumental song when he's studying. He listens to alternative rock when he works out. He likes reggae or bossa nova when he's cooking or eating.
Ino: *sings loudly*
Sakura: *whispers* Ino, lower your voice..
Ino: Why? We're alone anyway.
Sakura: S-Sasuke-kun is studying.
Ino: How did you know? Are you two talking now?
Sakura: No.. He's— He's listening to Irlandaise.. I'm sure he's studying.
Ino: Irlandaise?
Sakura: Yeah.. You see, when he listens to classics, he's most likely studying.. So, please let's try to be quiet.
Ino: Or maybe let's just close your balcony door?
Sakura: B-But I want to hear his music.
Ino: Ah, you still like him. I thought you've moved on from middle school!
Sakura: Ino, quiet!!
Ino: *laughs* Tell me, did you move here because of him?
Sakura: No!! I came here first.. I was also surprised that he lives next door.
Ino: Have you ever talked to him?
Sakura: Yeah.. Whenever we see each other.. But the first time he taled to me was when he asked if he could keep his door open when he plays music.
Ino: Oh, speaking of music.. It stopped..
Sakura: *whispers* He's changing his playlist..
Ino: What does that mean?
Sakura: *hears another song* That means he's done studying.. He's chilling now..
Ino: Wow! You really know him just by listening to his playlist!
Sakura: Yeah!
Ino: Anyway, I have to go Sakura! It's getting late. See you at school!
Sakura: Okay! I'll just fix my shelf to kill time.
Ino: Bye! *gathers her things and leaves*
Sakura: *organizes the books that she has read* Hmm. They take up so much space here. I must put them somwehere else. *uses the stool to get the box from the top shelf; slips and falls* Aw! Aw!
Sasuke: *hears screaming; rushes to Sakura's unit and knocks* Haruno-san! Haruno-san! *opens the door and sees her on the floor*
Sakura: Uchiha-san—
Sasuke: Sorry, your door is not locked so I went in.. Are you okay? *helps her*
Sakura: Y-Yeah.. My friend probably forgot to lock the door..
Sasuke: I see.. *hears the music from his unit* I'm sorry! I— I didn't know it's that loud.
Sakura: It's okay.. *almost whispering* I like your music..
Sasuke: No.. That's so insensitive of me..
Sakura: I told you, it's okay. *smiles*
Sasuke: How about this.. You send me your playlist then I'll play that for an entire week.
Sakura: A-Are you sure?
Sasuke: Yeah.. Let's blast your music next time.
Sakura: Okay.. Let me send it to you later..
Sasuke: Your phone?
Sakura: Hm?
Sasuke: I'll write my number.
Sakura: *panics because she has his number already* Um, I— my phone—
Sasuke: Is it charging?
Sakura: Y-Yes!
Sasuke: I'll add you on chat then.. I'll go back now.. See you around! Looking forward to the playlist. *leaves*
Sakura: Yeah. *blushes*
---
Sakura carefully curates a playlist for Sasuke and sends the link to him. She's nervous and excited.
Sakura: It's just a playlist, Sakura. Why are you so giddy and scared?
She waits for him to play the songs from the playlist but all she hears is random tunes.
Sakura: Didn't he like the playlist that I made? Why is he not playing it?
They bump into each other at school multiple times. They talk about random topics but never about the playlist that she made. It makes her wonder but she brushes it off because they talk about various subjects anyway.
One time, she sees him at the elevator..
Sasuke: Hey, Haruno-san!
Sakura: *bows* Uchiha-san.. I haven't asked you.. D-Did you like the playlist that I made?
Sasuke: Yeah. There are some songs that I like..
Sakura: /thinks/ So there are songs that he doesn't like..
Sasuke: Do you hear it in your unit? I play it before I go to sleep, like what you suggested.
Sakura: *confused* B-But I haven't heard it ever since I gave the playlist to you..
Sasuke: Hm? *checks the link*
Sakura: *checks the link*
Sasuke: *realizes it's on shuffle*
Sakura: *realizes it's the wrong playlist*
Sasuke: *blushes* S-So.. I should've not played it on shuffle?
Sakura: *flushed* N-No! I mean, it's wrong— I'll explain, Sasuke-kun— I mean Uchiha-san—
Sasuke: *checks the playlist again; blushes* LOML.. I— I didn't know, Sakura..
Tumblr media
Sakura: *cold sweats* U-Uchiha-san.. Um..
Sasuke: *reads the song titles from beginning to end*
Tumblr media
Sakura: *runs to her unit as soon as the elevator door opens*
Sasuke: *yells* Haruno-san!!
---
Sakura: You're so dumb, Sakura. Why would you send him that??
Sasuke: Haruno-san—
Sakura: W-What are you doing here? How did you—
Sasuke: You forgot to lock the door.. Haruno-san..
Sakura: It's— It's the wrong playlist, Uchiha-san.. It's not the playlist that I created for you—
Sasuke: But it says Uchiha Sasuke I love—
Sakura: *covers his mouth* Y-Yes.. It's for you too but you were not supposed to see that—
Sasuke: S-So, do you like me?
Sakura: Uchiha-san.. I'll send you the correct playlist, okay? May I ask you to leave? I'm just— I—
Sasuke: Okay.. Calm down.. I'll go.. Sorry.. *leaves*
---
Sakura sends a chat..
Here's the correct playlist [title: For sleepyhead], Uchiha-san. I hope you like it.
Sasuke plays the 1st song..
I like it, Haruno-san. Thanks! Give this song a listen too. :)
This is beautiful, Uchiha-san! Thank you.. Sorry if I acted rudely earlier.. I was just very embarrassed.
Sasuke reads the message and sends another song..
This one is a bit old but I guess it sums up everything that I wanted to ask you earlier.
I was surprised.. Pleasantly surprised..
Uchiha-san..
Sasuke blasts his speakers:
Sakura: *blushes while listening to the song*
Sasuke: Sakura!
Sakura: Y-You're here?
Sasuke: You didn't lock the door. Again.
Sakura: *laughs*
Sasuke: It's not a song for romantic dancing but.. May I? *offers his hand*
Sakura: *takes it and they dance slowly*
Sasuke: I know we're probably going a bit too fast but—
Sakura: It's hard for me to open up b-but Sasuke-kun, can I tell my feelings through songs?
Sasuke: Of course.. *smiles* I'll do the same..
Sakura: Okay.. *smiles*
Ino: *enters* Oh— Sorry, you didn't lock the door.
Sakura: *laughs*
Sasuke: *laughs*

A cold wind chilled her face as she ran through the dark forest with only one goal in mind. His chakra was getting closer, Sakura could feel it. Sasuke's presence was everywhere.
She bounced off the branch, accelerating. She couldn't afford to lose him, not this time. Sakura had spent two years preparing for this meeting. Two years and three months, learning of the terrible wrongs done by the village she'd been able to give her life for not so long ago.
A raven flew over her head. She jumped down, landing gently on the grass. Sasuke stood still, breathing steadily. She knew he was aware of who she was. She purposely did not hide her chakra.
"What are you doing here, Sakura? Won't Naruto and Kakashi be looking for you?"
"I came alone." She took a step forward; Sasuke still didn't turn around "I left Konoha."
At these words he looked at her. Red eyes shone in the darkness, sending shivers through her body.
"You left Konoha?" he laughed mockingly "Don't lie to me, Sakura. You love this shitty village too much."
Gritting teeth, she gripped the kunai tighter as her former friend began to move towards her with a hostile expression. The clenching and loosening of his hand indicated his annoyance at the situation.
"I'm not lying, Sasuke." she didn't add the ending to his name, showing the seriousness of the moment.
He leaned over her, smearing his breath over her cheek.
"How am I supposed to believe you? Why were you looking specifically for me?"
"I know what they did to your family and more. I also know that you joined the Akatsuki and that you could so easily introduce me to them. We are fighting on the same side from now on." she explained.
Sasuke's lips twisted into a smirk.
"So you'd betray Konoha for me?"
"I'm not doing it for you."
Silence.
True? Not true?
They measured each other with eyes, the atmosphere thickened. They both tried to steady their breathing, without success. Invisible sparks were forming between their bodies.
"One suspicious behavior and I’ll kill you." he threatened.
Sakura pressed the sharp tip of the kunai to Sasuke's chest, pushing him away.
"You try that, and I won't stop myself from killing you either. I'm not the same girl you left on the bench back then. One try and you'll be dead before you know it."
Sasuke stepped back, running his tongue over his lips. His expression changed; he became more pleased.
"And that's the attitude I like."

New Appreciation and Love: Ino Yamanaka
Tumblr media
Ino Yamanaka was always a character that was really cool due to her ninjutsu ability with the mind transfer jutsu, but especially by Part 2 she became a pretty gorgeous and a real hottie. Nobody can deny how beautiful and sexy Ino Yamanaka is out of the rest of the Konoha girls.  In terms of characterization I did feel she was kind of underutilized from the middle portion of the timeskip, but in the War Arc she had a few highlighted moments that really stood out such as redirecting the Ten-Tails attack away from the battlefield. At the same time, also being able to channel all of her inner and connecting it to the Allied Shinobi Forces that was just so awesome.
When it came to the series finale with the manga I definitely had my criticisms with how certain scenarios occurred, and felt there could have been more to make a truly satisfying conclusion. Fast forward to 2021-2022 when I decided to revisit the naruto series again and found a few new appreciation for things I didn’t really have before.  Last year, I came to realize that there was some level of fondness I have towards NaruHina. is it perfect? No of course not, but they’ve got moments that are nice for the most part.  This led me to reflect on other aspects of the series, and Ino Yamanaka is one of those aspects. < - no no no the “She’s so sexy  I could just bust right now!” lol! It’s actually far beyond a waifu fantasy notion many hold. I’ll be perfectly honest when I say it was a very simple aspect that really drew my attention about Ino Yamanaka after all these years.
We are nearly a decade away removed since the Naruto manga and 6 years since Shippuden ended, and the one consistent topic people love to address are the same old pairing wars that’s been going on for years, or who is the better girl? Sakura Haruna?, or Hinata Hyuga? That is the conversation still going on to this very day in the Naruto fandom, and I’ve reached a point where I appreciate both Sakura & Hinata equally.  “Okay Lucky, where does Ino come into the picture?”  ->  This is exactly the point I’ve been building to and that is to me Ino Yamanaka is a really under appreciated character.
Only a small minority of the Naruto fandom these days showcase their support & love for Ino. Not to say that Ino isn’t exactly loved in the fanbase, but compared to Sakura and Hinata, I haven’t noticed a lot of love and appreciation for The Mind-Transfer Kunoichi.
Finally,  Ino Yamanaka is great character because she’s very outspoken in speaking her mind about things that aren’t appealing to her,  but she’s also got an endearing personalty in showing kindess to her friends/family.  At the same time, She is very motivated in her drive when it pertains to the mission objective and running an amazing flower shop while being the head of the intelligence division. Unlike the other two Konoha girls, I really love that Ino was able to move on from her crush on Sasuke and really take things into perspective about the ninja world - > even if that part was breezed over in the main series. Yes, she is definitely quite the looker in being sexy, but the truth of the matter is Ino’s beauty simply compliments her character.  Was she underutilized during the run of the manga? Of course, but there is a lot more to her character beyond looks and people should recognize that about our beautiful flower girl ninja.  That is what makes her an underrated yet amazing kunoichi, Ino Yamanaka.
A short tweet I made in support of Ino Yamanaka:  https://twitter.com/7LuckyChi/status/1660094283188248578?s=20
That’s pretty much all I gotta for the time being but more support and love for Ino will be coming from yours truly, but until then I hope you all have an amazing day, night, etc. and remember show some love and appreciation for Ino Yamanaka!

what do you think about sakura? i've always been very conflicted or even indifferent to her. i feel like i've either wanted to really like her, but she falls short on every expectation, or i've wanted to really hate her, but she's too bland even for that. i've seen one half of the fandom raise her on a pedestal that i feel she doesn't deserve and the other make her absolute rubbish and that you're supposed to loathe with all your heart.
when it comes to naruto and sasuke, i do think both of them have love for sakura (even sasuke, even though it seems almost blasphemy to say this out loud), as both of them have love as their core characteristic, especially sasuke. i think sakura loves them both too, but i also think she's shallow in her feelings but is capable of reflecting on them. but i also think, often giggling to myself, that she's a smelly sweaty nervous girl when it comes to sasuke and it takes time to grow out of it.
all in all i think people in this fandom often seem to forget nuance and context when talking about her.
i enjoy you writing her, because she has dimension and she's capable of self reflection, but you don't put her on a pedestal.
sorry for the rant, i need other things to think about than my life right now. hope you're doing good and beating your writer's block with a stick!
sakura is very complicated for me. as a character, she enrages me- but not because of her actual personality. it's important when watching any form of fictional media to remember that these are characters, characters who were created by a real person to try to tell a story. all of her unlikable flaws for me all stem from the fact that she was created specifically for the male characters around her. even as early as her character introduction, which was the first plot device we are ever given to paint the rivalry between naruto and sasuke; we are introduced to sakura by naruto proclaiming he has a crush on her, only to see her brush him off and shallowly fangirl over sasuke. this continues throughout the entirety of the story in ways you don't necessarily notice at first, but become glaringly obvious the more you understand the misogyny in kishimoto's writing.
in the beginning of the land of waves arc, kakashi has all three students practicing tree climbing. Sakura, we see, excels at this. this seems great for a female character, right??? look, she's better than her two male teammates!! except that when you take into account that that is basically the one of the like. two times in the entire story we ever see her do better than either Sasuke or Naruto. this moment does more than just fall short due to never being supported again in the narrative once you realize that in actuality, kishimoto wrote her to have excelled so well at controlling her chakra because he wanted to write her out of the scene. that is literally the only reason he wrote her being adept in that moment. he needed naruto and sasuke to bond over training, and he didn't want sakura to be a part of the sentiment. narratively in his mind, she couldn't be! her entire existence was about the OPPOSITE; she was created to show the divide between the other two, so she can't be there to assist in showing their bond.
this is also where the concept of "Sakura is useless" comes from. her character was not created to showcase the world building of ninjutsu, nor was she meant to be the one saving the day. kakashi's character was about worldbuilding; he is the teacher-character who dialog dumps all of the information about how this ninja world operates. and at the beginning, saving the day was largely sasuke's job- to display the incapabilities and shortcomings of naruto- and then that moved onto Naruto's job- to show how far the protagonist has worked and to push the story forward. sakura's purpose of being the representation of how sasuke is Wanted and naruto is Unwanted does not fit in battle, so she is sidelined. for the entire first part of the story, she doesn't even have a jutsu she specializes in!!!! in a show about ninjas!!!!!!!! she is never allowed to display her own adeptness, because it would get in the way of her male counterparts' story. and then in an effort to keep her character relevant later on (and to placate fans I'm sure), kishimoto decides to make her. a fucking medic. a caregiver.
the misogyny of it angers me. she's the main female in your story, and her sole purpose is to support male characters both within the narrative and on the paper. but if i choose to watch/read the story as most other viewers do, devoid of my knowledge of writing fiction, I start to like her come Shippuden. i love the balance she has between her strength and her feminity. i love loud, determined women who show their gentleness selectively. i love her "headstrong combined with arm strong" (I'm quoting myself lmaoooo). but i despise how ALL of that disappears around Sasuke. it's so hard to focus on what I do like about her when kishi takes every opportunity he can to display the fact that she is very much Written By A Man™.
one super frustrating challenge that i had was the fact that I had to start out sakura's character in my own fanfiction complying with these awful character traits for her. my goal of kizuna hikari was to have everyone as canonically in-character as possible- which includes inheriting sakura's misogynistic character purpose. but i refused to keep her that way. so her character arc for me was shedding off her male-centric character traits. it took the whole fucking fic to undo kishi's work lmaoooo. i had to really gnaw away at her dependency on Sasuke, which involved keeping her narrative unfortunately still centered around him. but now i feel like now I'll actually be able to write her as her OWN character for the sequel, thank fucking god.
what you said about Naruto and Sasuke loving her is so true, and I see it the same way. their core character traits are both about loving deeply and intensely, so it's difficult for me to see either of them NOT caring about her. Sasuke at his heart is gentle and kind, rude as he can outwardly be. he naturally craves love. Sakura for sure is delusional, and a lot of her infatuation with Sasuke is rose-tinted, but I don't think ALL of it is. she does care for and love Sasuke- she's just lost in her own fantasy with it.
i really enjoyed writing her finally coming to terms with her delusions, realizing what parts of Sasuke she had been glamorizing and finally seeing him for himself. from where I've left off with her at the end of the povs, she did not fall out of love with him even though she came to terms with sasuke and naruto's relationship, which tells me that I think that she does harbor real love for him in canon. i can't wait to expand on her in the sequel and see how that develops.

Retsuden Final Episode Review
The final episode of Retsuden definitely had mixed reviews, both from SasuSaku fans and Boruto fans alike. Let’s review!
For one thing, the final rubble scene of Sasuke’s immediate fear and growing anxiety of losing sakura was incredibly done, not so much in terms of the scene itself, but more so by Sugiyama’s line delivery. You could hear the genuine emotion in Sasuke’s voice, and after so many years of playing a stoic character, Noriaki of course knew just how to let that emotionally vunerable side of Sasuke be revealed towards Sakura, and only Sakura. Sasuke’s greatest fear was at play - losing a loved one all over again. Losing his family. I loved his raw voice that is not often heard and it depletes any preconcieved notions that he doesn’t love her, care about her, etc. Thank you Sugiyama for these perfect voice lines!!
Many fans were let down by the end of the scene, with Sasuke not having wiped away Sakura’s tears, but let’s be honest it’s SP - look how much of the novel scenes they’d already left out lol. I’m glad they kept in Sasuke using medical ninjutsu, although I don’t know how they would’ve done without it even if they wanted to change it.
I understand that some rookie animators took part on some scenes throughout Retsuden, and whilst this is awesome of the Studio to take on new talent, many fans had their previous thoughts proven right with the lacking depth in some frames. That one where Sakura used the barrier jutsu looked relatively awkward, and as a new concept to Sakura’s character I struggled to understand what she did to trap Jiji or how it was supposed to be perceived. Despite this, I’m happy that there are new people wanting to carry on the animation industry and have no doubt these people will be some big names one day!
Although we didn’t get as many novel-accurate scenes, I appreciate the anime original at the end with SasuSaku in two different places, but saying the same lines. It reinforces the level of their connection and how the moon also unifies them with an ‘under the same sky’ sort of trope, showing no matter the distance they are always together.
Overall, I think Retsuden deserves a 7/10, due to the lack of novel-accurate content, some of the animation and the overall rushing of the arc. I don’t see why it couldn’t have been postponed until after the Code Arc, considering Code is Boruto’s main storyline and Retsuden is only a mini arc. I think if the focus went to Code first there could’ve been more consideration to the timing and presentation of Retsuden later on. But I still enjoyed it and look forward to more SasuSaku content being presented and as ever, I will continue to talk about it!!

The news of ss retsuden being adapted into anime is genuinely depressing i had made peace with the manga since i could ignore but having it be a part of the anime would just make it a part of the anime timeline and technically "canon" idk what sp was thinking but i jus lt hate how much sasusaku is being showed down our throats these days literally what is their end goal with this? Whats worse is that i cant even be hopeful about the future since there is no sasunaru content to look forward to
They might be pandering to sasusakus but they are also alienating the rest of the fandom
You need to calm down.
First of all, there is a 72 volume manga over the course of 15 years worth of content about our ship, written by Kishimoto. And even the movie and spin-off manga by him after the ending were like "yeah Naruto and Sasuke are still what matters, not their irrelevant wives". Non-canon things will never take that away. Do you really think Esaka's self insert story about chakra rings and dinosaurs can compare to all the effort Kishimoto put in his story, the years of work? All the drawing, all the writing, all the nuances in Naruto and Sasuke's relationship? Like if you read his writings, you can tell how much love and work he put into this manga, even if it ended less than well.
In comparison, Esaka wrote something self inserty about someone else's work, that doesn't even align with canon because she didn't care enough to do her research. What she cared about was how hot Sasuke was and how Sakura is married to him. And now she is liking bash tweets about Hinata because she is just like Sakura, threatened by other women. Of course, this will work on shallow fans like SS, because their reasons to ship SS are shallow to begin with. They didn't understand what Kishimoto tried to say and show in his manga. If they did, they would have figured out that he doesn't even like Sakura, and kept humiliating her at every turn. I mean some SS did, long time ago, but they left the fandom and dropped the ship.
You guys put way too much weight on the opinions and actions of SS fandom, considering how shallow and vile they are. Why? They are the laughing stock of the rest of the fandom. You can't reason with them. So stop taking their arguments so seriously. Their arguments can be torn apart easily as well. It's possible the Retsuden episodes will be abridged by SP (so they can go back to the canon Code arc) just like the peanut episode was abridged from one of the novels, but what you need to understand is SS will never calm down, be satisfied and stop being obnoxious even if SP animated it all. Because majority of the fandom still think Sakura is the worst female character in anime and that SS is more than contrived. They can't rest because they know their ship isn't acknowledged. And are these really the people you want to have a competition with?

Hey Chatte, hope all is well!
One of my favorite my art pieces from Kaika so far is the picture of the Uzumaki clan with an adult Arashi. I’m a sucker for lore especially for shows/comcis/managa that I love. I’m interested in the history of the Uzumaki clan and how it changed from the matriarchy to the patriarchy and how Ashina came to power. I’m also excited on how Naruto and Karin relationship is going to play out and it looks like that will come first before her eventual meeting with Sasuke. I also like how you are giving her and Sakura agency. (Yes we want them to get together with their respective partners) but I’m excited to see how their own personal stories move forward. Finally that art piece that has Naruto and Sakura as sun gods, you think they be a chance with Sasuke and Karin as moon gods? Can’t drop an awesome concept like and be done with it, and we have to their children to as a little pantheon lol.
Heyaa,
Welcome back to my inbox, haha! So good to have you back. :D
Glad to hear you liked the adult Arashi picture. Hope I can expand more on the characters there visually as well.
The thing is I have sooo many ideas in my head. I only wish I had the finances to act upon all these ideas lol.
Anyway, as for the Uzumaki clan, I hope you guys will love the lore I have for the exchange from the matriarchy or Ohirume to Ashina's patriarchy. It'll involve something really juicy, if you ask me, haha.
I just hope you guys will find it as juicy as I do in my head, lol. It's all in my mind, I just need to get to it.
Like I said on my other socials, I'm currently planning on writing Kaika's 13th chapter, after which I plan on taking a break from that because I wanna fully focus on plotting the story in arcs.
I already have the timeline finished from a looooong time ago, I just never got to the point where I actually arrange it into arcs & see how I can display all that history & background I worked on.
As for Karin and Sakura, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed that because honestly, from a writing perspective that has been a top priority of mine - for the girls to have their own agencies outside of the boys, even if I wanna go with those respective pairings.
As for the artpiece, it's already ordered. I wanted to have it as a surprise but you spoiled it for yourself. :P
But yeah, I already ordered it and it will definitely fit with the entire pantheon haha. You'll see more when I publish it.
PS: You now gave me another idea with SK (both the kids and the parents). *writes idea down to commission it at some point*

Sasuke rapped his knuckles on Sakura's door, waiting for her to answer. He wasn't the type to do this. In fact, he has never done this for along as he can remember. In spirit of the occasion, he figured this would be the best time of any to repay the kindness Sakura extended to him on Christmas. It may not have been sewn with the same amount of time, thoughtfulness, nor love as she did with her gift, but he wasn't gifted the time.
Whenever she would open the door, the Uchiha presented forward a black leather-bound painters book ( the pages swelling in the center from shrinkage, buckling the strap keeping it shut ) as well as a small box of assorted confectionaries. He didn't know what she liked, so that was a cliché pick.
"Happy Valentine's," he says," it's not food I promised before, but assume this is more timeless than that."
The book itself were various paintings, in acrylic and watercolor, Sasuke had made of religious sculptures, vast decorated buildings, and forest outlets of coloring Autumn trees from his recent trip.
Sakura actually had planned to go visit Sasuke that day. She knew it was a silly holiday but it was their first Valentine's day together! Ever since New Years they had been dating. That night was so unforgettable. She was finally able to let out the feelings that she was holding back for so long, and Sasuke was willing to give it a shot. They even kissed! Something she never imagined would ever happen. She knew Sasuke was still unsure of things and his own feelings. Which is why they were taking things slow. Though sometimes Sakura worried she went a little overboard with affection. But Sakura never pushed her away when she hugged or kissed him. Or even when she curled up against him while they were relaxing together.
One of her worries was he was just humoring her and secretly hated her touch but she had to remind herself that Sasuke was a blunt person. If he really didn’t like something, he would say so.
The knock on the door pulled her out of her thoughts. Sakura was just finishing the last touches on a heart shaped cake she made for them. Wasn’t the prettiest thing in the world but she tried.
Moving away from the cake, she quickly made her way over to the door and opened it, surprised to see Sasuke standing there. Her plans were to surprise him but it turned out he surprised her. Before she could say anything, gifts were presented to her. Her cheeks blushed at the thoughtfulness of it. She was surprised he even remembered the holiday.
Carefully, she opened the book to look through the many paintings that were in it. They were all so beautiful. She didn’t know Sasuke was such an artist, “Oh Sasuke… I love it! Thank you!” Carefully closing the book she wrapped her arms around him in a hug, with a bright smile on her face,
“Come in! Come in! I have something for you too! I-i was going to surprise you at home but you beat me to it.” Sakura blushed again as she tugged him inside by his arm, shutting the door behind him. The house had a sweet scent to it from Sakura baking all morning. Her home was a lot more decorated than his. With different pictures on the walls, a comfortable living room with a couch, coffee table, and a tv. Behind the tv hung a massive ax that no normal person could possibly lift and carry besides her. It had the Haruno crest painted on the blade, and a dragon carved into the handle. In fact, there was a lot of dragon things in her house,
“I baked a cake for us, and planned to make dinner for the two of us. I… I might have gone a little overboard with your gift but this is our first Valentine's day together! I wanted it to be something nice.”
In fact, it was the first time ever she had a valentine to celebrate with. Not that she never had offers but no one caught her heart like Sasuke did.
“Wait here and let me get it. I also want to place your gift somewhere safe that I can look at whenever I want.”
She did walk over and place the candies he got her on the table before she trotted off to her room. Sakura’s home was small. It was just her living in it. There was a door next to the table holding the tv up that must have been the door to her room. To the right of that door, not too far away was another door that must have been the bathroom.
Sakura wasn’t gone long, she didn’t want to keep him waiting. She wished there was some way she could hold the gift behind her back to surprise him but it would look rather goofy trying to hide a whole sword behind her. There was a neatly tied red bow around the sheath,
“Tada!” Sakura grinned, presenting the sword, “While I was staying at your house, I noticed the sword you always carry around was pretty beat up and old. I know you’ve been using it for years. So… I got this one made for you! I had it made so you can easily pull it even with your weak arm! Tenten made the sword, but I painted on the details. I… I hope you like it. I figured even if you don’t use it, it would still look pretty as a decorative piece.”
The sheath and handle were all carved out of dark wood. Smoothly polished. The sheath had the Uchiha crest painted near the top of it, and the outlines of white flowers over the whole thing. Sakura wanted it to look both elegant and powerful. How she saw Sasuke. He was as beautiful as he was dangerous. Though he never paid much attention to his own looks.  But to her, he was the most beautiful man in the world. In both spirit and looks,
“I suppose it’s a little strange to give a loved one a weapon for Valentine’s day but you like useful things, and this would be extra useful if we go out traveling like we talked about!”

Wait are you still around episode 200 of Naruto Shippuden? How do you feel about it? What arc are you watching rn?
i think i'm at 208 rn? actual answer will be under the cut
i like it! i can only manage about 3 episodes a night though because the pace of information has increased RAPIDLY!!! like. my chats with kate (my best friend who got me into naruto) are really messy now and frantic when im watching naruto
it used to be that i could watch like 5 or 6 episodes in a row without feeling like i'd seen anything i'd want to tell them about, but now i'm constantly having to pause naruto to give them my liveblogged observations.
i think i'm at the 5 hokage summit arc. literally the last episode i watched, danzō revealed his fucked up sharingan arm to "madara" (who i am dead sure is just obito) and sasuke. i know sasuke kills madara. i hope this is where it is.
i feel really bad for all the team kakashi kids. like. sakura, the perfect mirror of her sensei, is trying to take on the burden of the whole team and spare everyone elses feelings, she said she accepts if naruto hates her for killing sasuke, i think part of her would probably want naruto to hate her for killing sasuke.
sai was just trying to "look out" for naruto (it seems he's really recently developed a bit of a. shockingly protective tendency towards naruto? i think he's finally given in to the sway of naruto's weird ability to make other lonely teenage boys obsessed with him) but he fucked up big time and goaded sakura into trying to kill sasuke, which obviously. is not. comforting for any of them.
naruto literally has not had a second to rest, every 5 seconds somebody comes to him with a new problem and is like "also? this thing you loved and trusted is exploding. good luck" and he looks dead on his feet.
yamato seems like hes getting REALLY agitated about that specifically? like when sakura showed up and started confessing her love to naruto and following it up immediately with "so stop looking for sasuke! please stop looking for sasuke. its fine. stop looking for sasuke" Yamato seemed to get almost legitimately mad. kakashi kinda kept him from interfering.
then sai's clone appeared and explained sakura planned to kill sasuke. and then gaara showed up and explained that sasuke attacked the 5 hokage summit. and naruto seemed so exhausted and overwhelmed he looked like he was gonna pass out. yamato, again, stepped forward like he was gonna try to help but kakashi held him back again and was like "let naruto deal with this on his own"
fair enough. a probably the last thing naruto needs is having somebody up in his space trying to make him feel better when he's already so bad at allowing himself to experience negative feelings in the first place. fair enough.
also unrelated but i hate when obito sucks people into the hole in his twisty little mask. it looks like hes inhaling them. like the kirby.
Tumblr media
i am sitting here trying to watch naruto and then it looks like he just fucking eats torune and fū (danzō's special Root Bodyguards). man. that obito guy is weird.

After the success of Parent and Child Day, the Hidden Leaf Village announced that it will also celebrate the Women's Day going forward. It was suggested to Naruto that they should honor the women who keep the village's foundation intact. He happily agreed and signed it into a decree.
One of the highlights of that day was the Men and Boys Show where people would perform for their daughter or wife or mother or sister. Everyone was expected to participate. Naruto didn't forget to summon his best friend, Uchiha Sasuke.
Sasuke: You called me for this?
Naruto: It's just as important as your mission.
Sasuke: And you're asking me to dance?
Naruto: No, I'm telling you! Everyone will be there so prepare something for Sakura-chan and Sarada! I, myself, will dance.
Sasuke: You do whatever you want. I will just take my leave.
Naruto: Idiot! Your wife is the Head of Medical Department.. One of the most important positions in the village and you will have nothing for her? Fine, I'll tell her to just work on that day so she won't feel sad and alone attending—
Sasuke: You're very annoying, usuratonkachi. I'll still leave.
---
The Women's Day came and everyone in the village was so happy with the activities prepared.
Sarada: Sucks that Papa isn't here.
Sakura: He's probably doing a significant mission as per usual.
Sarada: Do you feel sad, Mama?
Sakura: No.. Well, I kinda want to see him, that's all.
Naruto: Sakura-chan! And hello there, Sarada!
Sarada: Lord Seventh!
Naruto: Are you having fun so far? Make sure to try out the activities and attend the program tonight.
Sakura: Ah, Naruto we might just stay at home and watch some movies.
Naruto: Sakura-chan, you can't not attend! You'll get an award, remember?
Sakura: But, you can give that to me on—
Naruto: Be there or you won't receive it!
As expected, the most anticipated event was the Men and Boys Show. First up was the current hokage with his advisors and their sons. They danced to everyone's delight. Hinata, Himawari, Temari, Ino, and others cheered for them. One by one, Konoha men danced, played instruments, sang and did other talents for their loved ones. After almost 4 hours, the talent show was over. It's now time for the finale, the awarding of influential women of the village.
Naruto presented the award one by one.
Naruto: And finally, it's an honor to give this award to our Head of Medical Department. My dear friend, one of our villages' most important pillar.. But before that, my other dear friend wants to do a presentation. Right, Sasuke?
Everyone gasped, especially the Uchiha girls. Sasuke walked into the stage with a guitar in his hand. He looked so cool as ever. Everyone was cheering in excitement.
Sasuke: This song is entitled "Shinunoga E-wa" and I dedicate this to my wife and daughter, the most important women to me.
Sasuke sat down and played his guitar. He started singing and it seemed like every girl lost their minds.
Sarada: I didn't know Papa can sing that well? Let alone play the guitar!
Sakura was just savoring the moment. She started crying out of happiness. She looked at Sarada who was recording the performance.
Afterwards, she received the award presented by the Hokage. She thanked her husband and emphasized how rare it was for him to do something like that. She ended her speech by praising the women of Konoha.
---
Sakura: Anata, I didn't know you can play the guitar?
Sasuke: I learned it using my sharingan.
Sakura: *kisses him passionately* I love you!
Sasuke: Hn. *pokes her forehead*

You’re like the only Naruro blog I follow and none of my friends have read Naruto so please I must share my thoughts with someone ;-; So I’m at about chapter 300 of the Naruto manga and this is the first time I’ve actually consumed any canon content of the series despite having dipped my toes into the fandom content before. I have a few things to get off my chest. One, I don’t really get why the fandom HATES Sakura so much. Yes, in OG Naruto, she is generally useless, but more so bc she was so sidelined completely. Her first fight against the puppet dude in Shippuden was genuinely so fun to read, and she’s actually so strong, more than I thought just based on what I’d heard prior to reading the manga!! The worst parts about the mangaka’s writing really come out when she has to deal with her feelings for Sasuke, the damsel in distress trope hits horrifying new levels of awful. If the romance hadn’t existed, I think she could have been such a better character, because then the mangaka wouldn’t have to add his such shit writing of women outside of punch heal heal medical ninja™️. (Although I will say, I do love her friendship with Naruto and I think that was written great!) Like I really do like her character but the writing is just so bad sometimes. Secondly, Sasuke. Kinda. Unbearable. I know he’s out for revenge and all that, and that he has a redemption later on but for now🥲 I can’t stand him I’m sorry 🥲. 2 edgy 4 m3. And right now, he’s kinda just. genuinely stupid. And I can’t take it. This is totally just a personal thing tho, I get that it’s a part of his character arc. Finally, I sorta get the impression that the fandom (not on tumblr but in general) really take their interpretation of characters to the extreme, and have the most one dimensional view of characters. For example, Tsunade genuinely seems like an awesome Hokage, is one of Naruto’s biggest supporters, and all the fandom sees is her boobs. Sakura is “useless” and “evil” for not returning Naruto’s feelings. They think Sasuke is a cool edgy deuteragonist who can do no wrong despite doing so many things wrong. “He tried to kill Sakura? Good!! She was useless anyway!!” So many of my views of the characters has been completely flipped on its head now that I’m actually reading the series. My view of the characters before I started reading was so skewed by an awful fandom. I really did believe that Sakura was useless, and that Hinata was somehow a better character????? And that Sasuke was actually justified in what he did, and that Tsunade was a bad hokage, to name a few. Makes me feel so stupid that I just believed it. Anyway, thats my rant! I hope this isn’t too negative or anything, but people sometimes praise this series like it’s the peak writing of all time, when there’s issues like blatant sexism (just to name one) within the writing itself and the fandom. I am really enjoying the series right now and am looking forward to what happens next!
:SCREAMS AND CLAPS VERY LOUDLY: YEAH YEAH YEAH
The women in Nar/uto are done dirty BOTH by Kish/imoto and a fair proportion of the fandom. I understand why some parts of the fandom venerate Sak/ura to make up for this and act like she was written amazingly, but I gotta admit, I find that annoying as well jhfjfgjdgjf.
Tsu/nade is honestly one of the few women in Nar/uto who I genuinely love to watch! I love that she's allowed to be messy and drunken and a gambler, but she's also got a strong head for politics, and she's amazing on the battlefield. And honestly, who better to run a country than someone who can run a hospital??? You need a similar mentality, lolololol. Like, yeah, she makes some poor decisions! As does every leader in the history of ever. But she's fun to watch and this is fantasy, so that's what counts!
Her obvious love and care for Nar/uto and Kon/oha are so sweet. The forehead kiss got me all kinds of soft. What a badass granny! I also shamelessly shipped her and Shi/zune even as a kid, shhhhh
I think I love certain interpretations of fanon!Sak/ura a lot more than canon!Sa/kura - she does have INCREDIBLE moments in the show, which I adore, and she's allowed to be both physically strong and emotionally vulnerable, which is awesome. But so much of her arc centres on Sas/uke, the edgelord who I was mildly obsessed with when I first watched at 13, but now just see as your average... well, 16/17 yo EDGELORD, and it makes me roll my eyes up into the stratosphere. The ending of her arc will never not make me cringe. Especially since she has her bangs back... like... kish/imoto... mmm. I think I'm maddest that she has SUCH POTENTIAL to be an amazing character, and it wasn't really tapped into - it felt like she was constantly sidelined to focus on the boys' arcs.
As for Sas/uke himself... A lot of his fans will happily ignore every awful thing he does just because he absolutely has a point about Kon/oha being terrible and needing reform (am I still pissed about how very little of importance changed in Bor/uto??? maybe so.... put the fucking frontline fighting age up to 18 at least, jfc). Like - don't get me wrong! I love that he does terrible things! I think he deserves to be a little bit unhinged, and it kinda suits his character as, again a 16/17 yo edgelord. That's just what they're like. But he's very much an Ends Justify The Means guy and I can't take anyone seriously who argues that a vengeful, bloodthirsty child becoming dictator of all ninjalands would've been the better option, actually.
THANK YOU FOR RANTING, I love to hear it!
