6 Years Later Matt knows that once Joe was born, there was going to be some problems since Joe was his and Y/N’s child. The kids are still learning that Joe isn’t fully their brother. So Joe got to stay back with Matt and Y/N while the other four had to go to Kristy’s house after the weekend. Matt knew that eventually, the kids will complain about having to leave while Joe gets to have them for himself. Moving to the holidays. Before Matt would be able to come over a while and celebrate but once Joe was born. The kids would either celebrate with Matt early or after the actual date. Joe gets to see the team a lot more than the four. He got to go to the get-togethers Rossi would make for the team.

So when Halloween came around, Matt was away for a case but the team managed to finish the day before Halloween, So Matt told Kristy that Y/N and Joe were coming to the office since Joe really wanted Matt to see his costume.  So Kristy and the kids were waiting outside to wait for the team.

“Wow guys, you look out of this world,” Matt said smiling at his kids dressed up. “Mom said that we’re going to trick or treat after here. Are you going to come with us?” Jake asked. “I don’t know bud, we still have to do some papers to do for the case but I can try,” Matt spoke. “Penelope just texted me that Y/N and Joe are already there with Will and the kids. She even brought Roxy and dressed her up.” JJ said looking at her phone. “You let her dress up Roxy?” Tara asked looking at Luke. “She asked so many times that I finally gave in.” Luke sighed smiling. The team chuckled and continued to walk inside, Kristy and the kids, following.

Once they got into the office, they saw that everyone was there already. “Hey, where are the kids?” Jj asked confused to see Penelope, Will, and Y/N but the kids were nowhere in sight. “They wanted to put on a small show for you guys saying that since you guys were off working hard, why not give you guys a costume show for your hard work. Henry and Michael are in the meeting room, waiting for their cue, Roxy is hiding under Luke’s desk and Joe is here in the chair” Y/N pointed to the chair that the chair was facing backward. “A show you said, Well we’re ready to see” Rossi spoke clearly fond that kids wanted to give them a show.

“Okay, Roxy is first,” Penelope said excitedly. She patted her leg and Roxy came up next to her. “Wow,” Luke said in shock. Roxy was wearing a bullet vest that is made for dogs. “Do you like it?” Penelope asked nervously. “I love it,” Luke said smiling walking up to Roxy.  “Thank you, I thought since she’s working with you in the rangers. She could be her true self. A true badass” Penelope explained smiling. “Well done Garica,” Prentiss said smiling. “Thank you,” Penelope smiled turning to Will. “Alright, the boys’ turn” Will smile and turn to the meeting room door. “I proudly present Henry and Michael LaMontagne” Will spoke loudly and both boys ran smiling. Henry was Spiderman and Michael was Hulk. They pretend to fight villains. Everyone just claps for them. They run to JJ. “You guys look amazing,” JJ said smiling, hugging them. They both said thank you.

“Now for the final trick or treater is Joe Simmons,” Will said, nodding to Y/N, who was giving the boys a high five. “Yes now, Matt knows that Joe originally told us that he wanted to be The Flash but last night, Joe told me he changed his mind. He wanted to be his all-time favorite hero.” Y/N said smiling, making Joe kick his legs in excitement. “But I thought that The Flash is his favorite hero,” Reid asked confused, making Matt nod looking confused. “Well, last night he changed his mind. So I present you Mr.” Y/N started, she spun the chair around to reveal Joe wearing a small white v shirt and jeans making him look like a version of Matt. “a small version of SSA Matthew Simmons” Y/N finished. Everyone quickly let out an aww at Joe.

“He wanted to be me,” Matt asked in shock, walking up to Y/N and Joe. “Yep, Garica helped me find everyone I needed to make the clothes,” Y/N replied, Matt, picked Joe up and pulled Y/N in for a kiss. He kissed Joe on the cheek. “Did you like it, daddy?”  Joe asked excitedly. “I loved it, Bubba,” Matt answered, smiling. Joe just smiled and hugged Matt tighter. “So I’m your favorite hero,” Matt asked, tickling Joe a little bit. “Yes,” Joe answered shyly.  Matt turns to Y/N and puts an arm around her. “Am I yours?” Matt asked jokingly. Y/N made a thinking face. “ I don’t know, The Flash is faster” Y/N spoke but quickly shook her head and kissed Matt. “You’ve always been my favorite hero” Y/N whispers.

Kirsty cleared her throat making Matt and Y/N pull away. Y/N smiled at them.”Hey, you guys look amazing” Y/N said looking at the kids. They all smile and let out a thank you beside Jake. “If I finish the paper that I need to fill. I will join you guys.” Matt said. “What if we wait for you,” Jake asked. “If your mom wants to,” Matt asked, looking at Kristy. “Sure why not,” Kirsty answered. Matt grabs the paper and sits down with Joe in his lap. Jake got more mad that Joe was sitting in his dad’s lap. Y/N walks over walks over to talk with Penelope. Kristy joins them, leaving the kids and Matt.

Matt was trying to rush doing everything he needs, he loves spending time with his kids. “Okay, I need to go grab a paper from the meeting office. I will be right back.” Matt stood up and sat Joe down on his chair.  Joe sat there still since when Y/N placed him early, he almost fell down since he was moving around a lot. “Why don’t you get off my dad’s lap, maybe he can finish faster,” Jake said annoyed, he felt like Matt was taking forever since Joe was in his lap. “Okay, just let daddy come so he can put me down on the ground. I don’t know how to get off.” Joe nods, Y/N always told Joe to be nice. He understands that maybe his siblings want to hang out with Matt since they don’t see him a lot. “You don’t know how to get off,” Jake asked annoyed that Joe won’t leave soon.  “No, my mommy told me to wait until she or daddy can do it,” Joe explained.

The rest of the kids understood but Jake was always annoyed. He walked up and grabbed the chair and pulled away from the desk. Not expecting the chair to move, Joe fell to the floor but he managed to hit his side on the desk. He instantly started to cry from the pain on his side. “JAKE WHY DID YOU DO THAT” Lily yelled in shock. Everyone runs over but Y/N got there first.

She put Joe in his lap. “What happens? What hurts bubba” Y/N asked checking over his body. “I fell,” Joe let out in the middle of his sobs. Matt looks over the kids. “What happened?” Matt asked. “Nothing” Jake quickly let out but Lily rolled her eyes. “Jake asked Joe to get off your lap so you can finish faster. Joe agreed but he said to wait until you or Y/N can bring him down from the chair. I don’t know why but Jake pushed the chair backward fast so that Joe lost his balance and fell. He hit his side on the desk” Lily explained.

Matt and Y/N quickly made eye contact. “I’m going to take him to get checked out.” Y/N told Matt standing up with Joe in her arms, who was silently crying holding his side  “I will go with you,” Matt said standing. “What about trick or treating with us, you promise,” Jake said in shock. “You don’t have to” Y/N whisper to Matt. “I want to know,” Matt replied, turning to Kristy and the kids. “Do you work tomorrow?” Matt asked Kirsty, who shook her head. “I will come over tomorrow okay?” Matt said. Kristy nodded. Matt and Y/N both headed out.

Pairing: Spencer Reid x Female Reader

It was Friday morning and the bullpen was busy, people seemed to have more energy than usual, maybe they were eager to finish their tasks and go home to their loved ones so they could celebrate Valentine’s day. 

Luckily for the BAU team, they had no active case which meant they were only consulting, they were all looking forward to the weekend, hoping to enjoy the calm before the storm, it was only a matter of time before they had to travel somewhere.

“So what are your plans for tonight?” Luke asked excitedly, wanting to hear about his friends’ plans and to tell them his.

“I have a date, we’re having dinner, then we’re going to a classic cars exhibition” Tara replied while she closed her casefile and turned to see her coworkers.

“Sounds dope” Luke told her also forgetting his current case.

“Is this a first date?” (y/n) looked at her with narrowed eyes while she bit her pen.

“No, actually, this is the, uh, like 8th date” Tara shrugged her shoulders.

“And why didn’t you share it with the class, Tara?” Matt smirked.

“Well I don’t know, but it is actually going really well”

“What is?” JJ was walking by and decided this conversation sounded way more interesting than the pile of cases waiting in her office.

“Why am I the only one talking? (y/n), what are you doing tonight?”

“Well, funny that you ask, this Friday I am spending my Valentine’s day like I did pretty much every V-day during my highschool years” She laughed while everyone looked confused.

“She’s babysitting the kids so Kristy and I can have dinner and some alone time, she might be my favorite teammate” Matt interfered.

“Damn right I am and if there is a sixth baby after tonight, I have godmother rights” (y/n) joked while everyone laughed.

“Ha! I don’t think so but you have auntie rights with all five” 

“We have great friends, Matt, Spence offered to babysit Henry and Michael tonight” JJ looked at Matt while raising her eyebrows. 

“Oh, well, why don’t they come over to the house tonight? Maybe they can have a sleepover, the kids would love that, would that be ok, (y/n)?” Matt carefully asked, desperately hoping she’d say yes.

“Yeah, totally” (y/n) thought that having an extra pair of hands with the Simmons clan would be helpful besides she adored JJ’s little boys.

“I’m gonna tell Spence then”

JJ smiled widely as she immediately went off to find Spencer to tell him the good news. Matt, Tara and (y/n) went back to their files while Luke sat there, amused by the way JJ and Matt were trying to set Spencer and (y/n) up. His face fell when he noticed the others thought the conversation was done and he hadn’t told them his plans.

“I’m taking Penelope to dinner, then I’m gonna surprise her with tickets for an art exhibit she’s been dying to go” Luke spoke up while everyone looked back at him with wide eyes.

“You what!?” Penelope almost screamed while walking up to Luke, the closer her high heels sounded, the more Luke sank into his seat “You got us tickets for tonight!? Oh my gosh, I can’t believe it” She shrieked with joy wanting to kiss him right there but she didn’t want any HR seminars on proper behaving so she stopped herself from doing so.

“Luke’s getting really lucky tonight” (y/n) smirked while Tara and Matt started laughing.

“Atta boy!” Tara said still laughing.

“I better hurry up then” Luke flashed Penelope a smile, the blonde woman just winked at him and continued her way to find Anderson.

The rest of the day went by fair quickly, everyone was anxious to start their weekends and forget about work duties for a few, (y/n) hadn’t seen Spencer much during the day but she figured JJ had already told him as she promised.

She entered the elevator and as the doors were closing, Spencer barely made it into the elevator with her.

“Are you in a hurry to see someone, doctor?” (y/n) held back a smirk while Spencer recovered his breath.

“No, it’s just I really need to take these books back to the library before it closes” He awkwardly smiled while holding up the books to her.

“Oh, I thought you had a date or something” (y/n) was curious as to if he had other plans before going to JJ’s house. 

“No, uhm, actually JJ told me, the boys and I were invited to join all of you at Matt’s house” His free hand played nervously with the strap of his bag.

“Yup, I believe you’re stuck with me on Valentine’s day, doc” She nudged him on the elbow.

“It’s ok, I- I think all nine of us will have a great time” He flashed her a shy smile.

(y/n)’s stomach did a flip, she was nervous, happy and excited about spending time with Spencer. The last few weeks she had noticed something had changed in her, suddenly the presence of Spence made her heart feel warm and fuzzy. 

The doorbell rang and (y/n) picked up Rose from the playmat to go and greet their visits. When she opened the door Henry and Michael were already in their pajamas and jumping with excitement ready to go and play with their cousins.

“Hi auntie (y/n)!” Michael hugged her legs and (y/n) affectionately 

“Hi sweetie, happy Valentine’s day! We’ve been waiting for you, come on in!” (y/n) moved to the side so the three of them could enter the house.

“Henry! Michael!” David ran to greet his cousins and was followed by the rest of his siblings.

Spencer’s face made (y/n) laugh, he certainly looked a little worried.

“We’re gonna be fine, it’ll be only a couple hours” (y/n) said while patting his shoulder with her free arm.

“Seven children, I don’t think I ever been with this many children alone” Spencer looked at her while she bounced little Rose in her hip.

“You’re not alone though, I am an expert at babysitting besides they are really sweet, I don’t think they’ll give us trouble” As if on cue Rose shrieked in an adorable way getting both of their attention. “See? Rose agrees with me” (y/n) smiled widely at the baby.

“Ah, Rose! Since when you’ve gotten so big?” Spencer cooed to Rose, who was getting excited for getting more attention, she reached her little arms to him.

“Ok, off you go with uncle Spence” (y/n) passed her to him and he happily took her in his arms.

Spencer had gotten way better with kids thanks to Henry and Michael, then when Matt had joined the team, he had not only gained a team mate but nephews and nieces. He adored all of them.

“Ok, so what do you want to do?” (y/n) said when they were all in the living room, Rose was still in Spencer’s arms trying to pull his hair.

“There’s a Lego set David and I, have been wanting to build, do you want to help us out?” Jake turned to Henry.

“Yeah, that’d be cool” Henry eagerly replied.

“It’s on our room, let’s get it and we can build it here” The three of them ran upstairs leaven the little ones looking at their uncle and auntie with expecting eyes.

“Guys! Do you wanna make Valentine’s cards?” I brought a lot of stuff we can use to make them” (y/n) suggested, she loved doing crafts with kids, something she had gotten from her mom being a kindergarten teacher.

“YES!” Chloe, Lily and Michael started to jump with excitement, they, too, loved making crafts.

“Let me grab the stuff from my bag and set it all on the table, wait here” She turned on the TV so they could watch something and Spencer was sitting in the living room, still playing with Rose.

“Spence, can you come over here for a sec?” (y/n) called for him from the kitchen while looking to the pizza place menu Kristy had told her to call.

“What’s up?” The moment Spence took his eyes off Rose, the little one took her chance and went to grab his uncle’s hair, pulling it hard, both Rose and (y/n) started laughing.

“That’s why I put my hair out of her reach” She pointed to her headband that had any strands of hair away from her face.

“Yeah, I’m gonna take that into consideration” Spencer smiled at the baby who was still amused in her arms.

“Kristy told me to order pizza for dinner, I’m ordering pepperoni for the kiddos, I texted JJ and she said it was fine, but I’m not sure what would you like?” She was already dialing on her phone.

“Whatever you order it’s fine” She looked at him warily “Seriously, anything is fine”

“Ok, go and see if the kids got the Lego set they were talking about, please”

“Ok” He smiled and turned to go back, he felt so content of being there with her and the kids, he didn’t care much for Valentine’s day but this one was his favorite, without a doubt.

When Rose started to get fuzzy and wanting to go down, he put her in the playmat where she happily took her toys and started babbling, forgetting about the people around her. So Spencer decided to see if David, Jake and Henry wanted some help.

(y/n) was sitting with Chloe, Lily and Michael while they did their cards.

“So you already know who you want to make a Valentine’s card for?” (y/n) asked while giving them paper sheets folded in half.

“My mommy!” Michael was already grabbing crayons and drawing something.

“I’m not sure yet” Lily had a hand under her chin, squinting her eyes trying to figure out who she wanted to give a Valentine’s card to.

“I’m gonna make you one, auntie!” Chloe started to grab stickers and putting them on the paper.

“That’s so nice of you, if any of you need help with something, you tell me, ok?” (y/n) was excited to see them unleash their creativity.

“You’re not gonna make one?” Chloe asked with a surprised expression.

“You know what, I am” (y/n) winked to the little girl and Chloe giggled.

“Make one for uncle Spence!” Lily suggested with the biggest grin on her face.

(y/n) didn’t answer and just smiled, the whole world seemed to suggest that something else should happen between them but she just wasn’t sure that would turn into a reality. She didn’t think it was possible for Spencer to see her like that. Nor she was sure she wanted to be in a relationship with her teammate and friend. It worked out fine for Penelope and Luke but in their case Penelope rarely traveled with them for cases, they didn’t see each other as much as Spencer and her did, that sounded like too much trouble. 

She had once dated a coworker, back when she worked at the NIJ and it got messy, the whole experience had ended in bad terms and it made work awfully uncomfortable afterwards, she didn’t want that to happen with Spencer. She knew she had a crush on him, but that was everything it was, a crush, she was more interested in keeping him as a friend.

Half an hour later, the doorbell rang and (y/n) went to get their dinner. The younger ones had already finished their cards and even had helped (y/n) with hers by making a draw of their uncle Spencer. They were currently helping clean everything, so they could sit and have dinner.

After having dinner, the Simmons kids went to change into their PJ’s, and (y/n) went to change Rose and put her to bed while Spence offered to do the dishes.

“Auntie (y/n), mom and dad said since it’s not a school night and this is a sleepover we could stay past our bedtime for an hour” David said with pleading eyes.

“Our mom said the same” Henry chimed in.

“I know, I know, both of your parents informed uncle Spence and me about that, what do you wanna do?” 

The five of them went quiet but one could see their brains trying to think what to do in that valuable hour.

“We could watch a movie” Henry suggested.

“Yeah, something we all wanna watch” Jake added ruffling Lily’s hair.

“Ok, sounds like a good idea, but I had another suggestion, I thought why don’t you build a fort? You can sleep in there too” (y/n) had this plan since she knew she was babysitting for them, she had already asked Kristy and Matt where they kept blankets and sleeping bags.

All of their faces lit up with happiness as the nodded furiously.

“Could you go grab the blankets? They’re already down here, outside the hall’s closet” The didn’t think twice and ran off to get them.

Spencer watched the whole scene from the kitchen door, seeing (y/n) with kids made him wonder if she had ever considered having them. She was a natural with them, every time the whole team had a get together, at some point she would leave the adults to go and be with them, she would talk to them or play with them, helping the younger ones to the swings. And even in cases where they had to interview kids for some reason she was incredible with them.

(y/n) saw him lost in his thoughts and decided to interrupt him for a moment.

“I was coming to help you with the dishes”

“I’m already done, I was going to take the trash out” He lifted the bag he was holding “I wouldn’t have thought about making a fort, sounds like fun” 

“You see, I’m not a regular aunt, I’m a cool aunt” She joked knowing he probably wouldn’t get the reference but she still laughed at her own joke.

All of them spent more than an hour playing on the floor, the kids changed their minds about the way they wanted the fort, the eight of them laughed, joked and had a blast. That was until the tiredness from the day started to be obvious in their eyes. The first one to give up was Michael, followed by Lily and Chloe, as much as Henry, Jake and David tried to fight, they fell asleep not much after their siblings.

(y/n) looked at them with a smile on her face while she went to sit on the couch with the baby monitor in her hand, she had been carrying it with her, afraid Rose was going to wake up.

Spencer sat beside her and sighed, he felt truly happy because of how the evening had turned out, it had been a while since he had laughed so much.

“If you want, you can go home, I can take Henry and Michael to JJ’s” She offered, thinking his sigh was because he was tired, and he was but he wasn’t about to leave his beloved godsons or her, he wanted to be there.

“No, it’s ok, I signed up for the whole night too” He sat beside her.

“Happy Valentine’s day” She handed him the card her and the kids had made for him. When he opened it, he saw a drawing of him, (y/n), Michael, Lily and Chloe. Each drawing was different, surely the kids had done them. And in her handwriting there was a WE LOVE YOU, UNCLE SPENCE,  he felt his heart bursting out of his chest, not only (y/n) but this children made him feel extremely lucky to have them in his life. 

“I’m glad we both offered to babysit tonight” (y/n) put her head in his shoulder like she had done a few weeks ago on the jet.

“Me too, I had a great time, you were right, I had nothing to worry about, they could’ve ended us but they didn’t” He joked.

“Told you” As she closed her eyes trying to rest for a bit, she heard Rose cry through the baby monitor. Spencer jumped a little at the sound.

“Is she ok?” For the second time that night, there was worry in his voice.

“I’m sure she is, I’m gonna go check on her” (y/n) grabbed the baby monitor and went up to the nursery, she changed her diaper and the crying stopped,but  miss Rose was wide awake now, so (y/n) sat in the rocking chair trying to get her to sleep again.

“Go back to sleep, baby girl” She spoke softly to her “Oh Rose, one thing auntie (y/n) is not good at, is lullabies, let me think of a nice song to sing to you” She rocked the baby lightly trying to remember a song that she could sing to her.

Spencer was growing impatient, (y/n) had been up for more than 20 minutes, she had taken the baby monitor so he had no clue what was going on with Rose. He decided to go up and ask if there was anything he could help her with. As he got closer to the nursery he could hear (y/n)’s voice. He wasn’t sure what she was saying until he stopped right outside the nursery, the door was half open so he could now clearly listen to her singing softly to Rose.

“I’ve been trying to do it right, I’ve been living a lonely life, I’ve been sleeping here instead, I’ve been sleeping in my bed, sleeping in my bed, so show me family all the blood that I will bleed, I don’t know where I belong, I don’t know where I went wrong, but I could write a song, I belong with you, you belong with me, you’re my sweetheart, I belong with you, you belong with me you’re my sweet…”

Spencer smiled, he recognized the song, it was from the same band that played the song they had listened on the jet. After that conversation, he had searched the song and had downloaded more songs from that band. He enjoyed their music because it reminded him of (y/n). He silently went back down and decided to wait there for her. He didn’t feel when (y/n) came down a few minutes later and put a blanket around him. She sat on the other couch and let herself fall asleep there.

Walking Into Love

Celebrating your second wedding anniversary with the love of your life was never something you thought you would be doing back when you moved to Quantico. But here you were and you wouldn’t wish for anything better.

In the time that had passed, David had gotten married to Krystall, Matt and Kristie had welcomed another baby into the world, and Will and JJ were talking of trying for another. As for you and Luke? Well, you’d talked about it, but had never actually started to start trying for a baby.

You and Luke had decided to celebrate your anniversary with David and Krystall who had their anniversary coming up, so the four of you had opted for dinner at David’s where it was just the four of you.

David was cooking dinner with Luke, so you and Krystall decided to sit out in the garden, Bella and Roxy were laid in front of you. Krystall had become like a mom to you and a trusted friend. You looked back into the kitchen to see that Dave and Luke were cooking and smiling and joking together, both of them had a dishcloth tossed over their shoulder. You looked back at Krystall, the blonde woman smiling at you. “Hey, Krys, can I talk to you about something?” you asked, swilling the ice and water around in your glass.

Krystall took your hand and smiled softly at you. “Sure, honey, you know you can tell me anything.”

“Thank you,” you smiled gratefully, squeezing her hand. “I haven’t spoken to Luke about this yet, so it has to stay secret.”

“Your secret is safe with me.” Krystall mimicked zipping up her lips, locking them, and throwing away the key.

After you told Krystall your little secret, she smiled brightly at you and hugged you tightly. Then the two of you sat there talking until you were called in for dinner.

You all finished eating an amazing dinner and sat in the living room talking and joking and laughing, soft piano music playing from the record player filled the room. David finished telling a story about his time in the army and you shared a look with Krystall who smiled and gave you a small nod.

“Uh, I have something that I need to tell all of you,” you said as you got to your feet.

“Sweetheart, is everything okay?” Luke asked.

You smiled down at him. “Yeah, everything’s fine, baby. I promise, there’s just something I have to tell you and I wanted the three of you to be the first ones to know,” you reassured him. “There’s not really any other way to say this, so I’m just going to come out with it.” You took a breath. “I’m pregnant.”

Luke jumped to his feet. “What? A-are you serious?”

You looked at him with tears swimming in your eyes and a smile on your face. “Yes. I found out this morning.”

A tear slipped down his cheek as he looked at you. He wrapped his arms around you gently, holding you close to him. “I love you so much,” he whispered into your ear before pulling away and kissing you quickly and gently.

“I love you too.”

“Well, I think congratulations are in order,” David grinned, coming over to the two of you. He hugged you both and kissed your cheeks. “You will make wonderful parents.”

“Thanks. Dave,” you beamed.

“I am so happy for you two,” Krystall smiled, hugging you both.

After the congratulations, the four of you sat down, Luke wrapped his arm around your shoulders and couldn’t help but splay his other hand on your stomach. “I can’t believe this is happening. I can’t believe we’re going to be parents,” he grinned.

“How far along are you, Mio Caro (my dear)?” David asked.

“Two and a half months.”

“Take it from me, the time flies,” Krystall told you.

The pregnancy had been one hell of a ride full of cravings and mood swings. It had definitely been a rollercoaster ride. But Luke has been there every step of the way.

Both of you had opted to keep the sex of the baby a surprise. Both of you felt it would be nice for it to be a surprise. It made it all the more special. Although, you had picked out names for both a boy and a girl.

You laid in the bed in the hospital room, one hand rubbing your stomach in gentle circles, the other holding Luke’s hand, deep breaths coming from your mouth. You were overdue by a couple of weeks and very uncomfortable. Your waters had broken last night and now it was only a matter of time before you gave birth and bring your child into the world.

You’d been here for ten hours at this point and you were highly uncomfortable. You threw an arm over your face, a groan leaving your lips. “Ugh, why is this taking so long?” You grumbled. “Can’t they just smoke it out?”

“I don’t think they can, honey, but it won’t be long now,” Luke soothed, rubbing gentle, soothing circles on your palm.

All you could do was grumble and then take deep breaths as another contraction hit.

After a further six to eight hours, an hour or two of which was pushing, you finally heard a cry fill the room.

“You did great, baby,” Luke whispered softly. He moved some hair that was sticking to your forehead from sweat before kissing your forehead.

After cleaning the baby up and swaddling it in a blanket, the doctor walked over to the two of you. “Congratulations, you have a son.”

Tears brimmed in your eyes and quickly rolled down your cheeks as Luke helped you sit up. The doctor handed your son to you and you cradled him in your arms while looking down at his little face. His eyes were closed but he stretched out his little hands and poked his little tongue out of his mouth.

“We’ll leave you three alone,” the doctor smiled before he and the midwife left.

“He’s perfect,” Luke smiled. He looked down at his son with soft eyes and a soft smile as he gently stroked his cheek.

“He is,” you agreed. “I think he’s going to look just like you.”

“Well, I hope he gets his personality from you.”

“Maybe he will,” you smiled.

It was the next morning when Penelope and the rest of the team came to the hospital for a visit. She had hold of some bright balloons, one said congratulations, another was a blue pacifier, the other three were generic new baby balloons. She set the balloons down next to the bed. You were cradling the baby in your arms, Luke was sitting by your side on the bed. She looked at the three of you. “Oh, he’s so beautiful. My godson is so beautiful.”

“Would you like to hold him?” you asked, to which she responded with an eager nod. You handed him over with a smile.

“Oh, you guys, he’s perfect,” she grinned.

A couple of minutes later, Penelope handed the baby over to David so he could see his godson. “He really is perfect, isn’t he?” he smiled. “Congratulations.”

“Thanks, uncle Dave.”

“Do you have a name for him yet?” JJ asked.

“James David Alvez,” Luke replied. 

“I like it. It’s perfect,” Matt smiled.

“James is derived from the Hebrew name Jacob. It means ‘supplanter,’ one who follows. In the 17th century, the Scottish king James VI inherited the English throne, becoming the first ruler of all of Britain, and the name became much more popular,” Spencer informed the group.

“Didn’t know that. Thanks, Spence,” you smiled.

Spencer returned your smile and shoved his hands in the pockets of his trousers. “You’re welcome.”

“Let’s hope he gets his brains from his mom,” Tara joked earning a chuckle from you and a playful eye roll from Luke.

“This little man is going to grow up to be great with parents like you,” Krystall added, stroking James’ cheek.

“Thank you,” Luke smiled, taking James from David as he handed the little one to him.

The next couple of hours were spent chatting and listening to and smiling at the team gushing over James.

Four months had passed and you Luke had become accustomed to parenthood. Despite being constantly sleep-deprived, the two of you loved being parents.

Luke had returned to work a month ago and he was finding it incredibly hard being away from you and James. Non-local cases were the worst for him and all he could think about was you and James. It was like his whole body yearned to be with the two of you.

It had been a long, hard case and a very long, hard two weeks away and he couldn’t wait to step back into his home and see you and James again. He’d talked to you almost every night, but that had not stopped him from missing you both.

There were often times when he’d been away that he would walk back into the apartment to find you laying on the couch with James on your chest or to find you sleeping soundly in bed and James sleeping in his crib.

When he entered the apartment, he was greeted by Roxy and Bella, both of them wagging their tails excitedly upon seeing him. He gave them some attention before he slipped off his shoes and his jacket and then put his gun in the safe that was installed in the wall behind a framed painting. You weren’t on the couch tonight so he assumed you’d be in bed. But you weren’t in the bedroom either so head to James’ room. As he got closer, he could see that the light was on and his ears tuned in to a soft humming.

He stopped at the door frame, a smile tugging at his lips when he saw you sitting in the rocking chair while gently cradling James and humming to him while looking down at him with what he knew were soft and loving eyes.

James’ eyes closed and you stayed there for a moment just looking down at him. You carefully stood up as to not to disturb him and gently placed him down his crib. You felt a gentle hand on your back and you smiled at Luke. “Hi.”

“Hi,” Luke smiled back at you, softly kissing your cheek. “How’s he been?”

“Good.”

“And how have you been?”

“Tired as always but I’m good. How are you? How was work?”

Luke gently took your hand, interlocking his fingers with yours as he started leading you out of the room. He switched off the light and partially closed the door. “I’m good and work was work. We caught the bad guy. I’m just glad to be home to you two.”

“We’re glad you’re home too, baby.” The two of you entered the bedroom and you turned and gave him a sweet kiss on the lips. “Come lay down with me? I’ve missed you.”

“Gladly,” he smiled, softly kissing you. You crawled under the covers while he changed from his shirt and trousers into some sleep pants before he joined you in bed. He pulled you into his arms, his legs tangling with yours, a smile forming on his lips when you tucked your head beneath his chin. “I love you,” he whispered into the quiet room.

You smiled and softly kissed his chest. “I love you too.”

This. This was perfect to him. You curled up next to him, James asleep in the other room, Bella and Roxy asleep in their beds. This was everything he wanted. Everything he needed.

Last day at Sea City! Stacey sends Kristy another notebook postcard, though again, there isn't really anything BSC notebook-worthy in it. And what would a BSC vacation book be without a postcard that ends with I'll probably see you before you get this card!? Then what's the point in sending it? *headdesk* Seriously, this "send a notebook entry via postcard every day on penalty of death" thing is one of Kristy's worst ideas. Not as bad as the Fall into Fall Festival, or the Baby Parade float, but it's still up there.

Stacey’s postcard to Claudia is also kind of pointless. She says she's going on a date with Toby and she'll tell her about it when she gets home. Seriously, sending Claudia another postcard is just going to make her brain hurt from all that extra reading.

Surprisingly, Dee gives Mary Anne and Stacey the final night off, instead of leaving them with the kids and going on another romantic night alone with her husband, like they've been doing the whole trip. The girls are thrilled but Stacey says they make sure not to celebrate too much, so as not to upset the kids. Whatever, Stacey. I'm sure the kids are thrilled because it means spending time with Mom and Dad for the third whole time in the two weeks they've been at Sea City.

All the kids want to go to the beach one last time, so while Stacey and Mary Anne get them ready, Stacey gets a Great Idea. Don't tell Kristy! Even if she's back in Stoneybrook, she'll still wish she had thought of it! Stacey wants to invite Alex and Toby along on their night off so they can go on a double date! Cue Mary Anne freaking out because 1. OMG GO ON A DATE?!?! and 2. OMG GIRLS DON'T ASK BOYS OUT!

Stacey, who's so sophisticated and always up on the current trends, calls Mary Anne old-fashioned. Well, Mary Anne is the BSC member most like Ann Martin, so she's right there. 

So Stacey tells Mary Anne to get with the times, and reminds her this could be the last time they see Toby and Alex. Well, at least until next time, when Toby dumps Stacey then goes on the prowl after Mallory, of all people. Or was that in the Super Special? I didn’t read either of those so I’m not 100% sure.

Either way, Stacey sends Mary Anne to do the dirty work of asking the boys and after momentarily spazzing, she gets up and walks over to where they are on the beach. Stacey's surprised and so am I. It's good to see Mary Anne acting confident! Too bad when she meets Logan, it all goes out the window, and she can barely talk to him without nearly throwing up. Kind of like how Stan always pukes when Wendy talks to him on South Park.

Mary Anne triumphantly returns, looking a little smug, Stacey observes. Yeah, Stacey! You're not the only one who has a way with boys! They're meeting Toby and Alex at 6 p.m. at the restaurant Hercules' Hot Dogs. Which sounds like the name of a really cheesy porn movie. And it fits because when they're at Hercules', it's the dirtiest scene ever in the BSC. But, I'm getting ahead of myself.

Stacey tells us she and Mary Anne spent almost an hour (45 minutes) getting ready for their big date? I’ve definitely taken longer to get ready for things than that. They end up wearing the same outfits from their last trip to the boardwalk. Wait. Stacey wore the same outfit two days in a row?! *GASP* What would Claudia say? Probably "I don't even KNOW you anymore!"

Even though they're wearing the same outfits, they still think of other things to do, like put on perfume and nail polish. Wow, Mary Anne is living on the edge on this trip! Buys herself another bikini, asks a boy on a date, wears nail polish. And not just any nail polish. Yellow sparkly nail polish! Mallory will be very jealous. You know how she loves sparkly things.

They get to the restaurant on time, with the boys arriving shortly after. Mary Anne swoons to Stacey over how nice Alex looks (we aren't given an outfit description, no fair!) but Stacey points out that her man Toby looks so much better. Ouch. Toby's wearing baggy white cotton pants and an oversized blue and white striped sweater. Hot. And I think I saw that same outfit on a Ken doll back in the day.

Now we come to what I was talking about before. Hercules' main feature was hot dogs that really were an entire foot long. Yet Stacey orders a burger instead. I know, right? Stacey turning down a foot-long. And I didn't know diabetics couldn't have hot dogs.

I guess the portions are huge because Stacey and Mary Anne only finish 2/3's of their dinner, while the boys eat theirs, finish up what the girls didn't eat, then each order another hot dog. Gross. All while Stacey says Toby told "the longest joke in the history of comedy." Let's hope it isn't this one: A family walks into a talent agency. It's a father, mother, son, daughter and dog. The father says to the talent agent, "We have a really amazing act. You should represent us." If Toby told the Aristocrats joke, Mary Anne's head would explode.

It seems Mary Anne has other things on her mind, because Stacey says she had to nudge Mary Anne to "get her eyes off the hot dogs." Mary Anne is truly getting in touch with her sexual side here in Sea City. First she stares in amazement at Stacey's heavenly boobs of wonder, now she gets an eyeful of Toby's and Alex's hot dogs.

To keep Mary Anne's mind off of the foot-longs being devoured by their dates, Stacey asks Mary Anne if she's ok being alone with Alex for awhile while she goes off with Toby. Geez Stacey, on the first date? Since Mary Anne's still riding her confidence high, she slowly breaks into a huge smile and says yes. Stacey grins and says if she weren't in the middle of the restaurant, she would have hugged her. Seriously, Stacey, on the fir-oh wait, she wants to go to the boardwalk with Toby.

And, finishing up this BSC Scene of Euphemisms: At last, the ends of the boys' hot dogs disappeared into their mouths. We left Hercules'. No wonder Mary Anne couldn't take her eyes off it.

Mary Anne and Alex go off to shop, while Toby and Stacey head to the arcade. Stacey wins him a hat (probably one of those cheap, flimsy ones you get at carnivals) and in stereotypical wholesome date fashion, Toby wins Stacey a teddy bear. Only she decides to call it Toby-Bear.

Toby-Bear?! And she rolls her eyes at Mary Anne for being immature?

They stroll around the boardwalk a little more and then they go into a shop that sells seashells (try saying that three times fast). While Stacey digs through a bin of conch shells, Toby hands her a little paper bag. Money he swiped out of Mary Anne's purse at the restaurant? Certain, uh, things to use for later? No. Further enshrining himself in the Unbelievable BSC Date Hall of Fame, Toby bought her a shiny, pale pink shell for Stacey to remember him by. Stacey has a knack for getting free stuff from guys she's barely met, doesn't she? She almost cries when she thanks him. Did she and Mary Anne switch personalities?

But he isn't done yet! Stacey and Toby's Date Night of Cliches culminates with a trip through the Tunnel of LUV! This is how you know how serious Toby is: It's the Tunnel of LUV, not the Tunnel of Love! And, of course, as they're going through the ride in a giant swan boat, Toby leans over and kisses her. Stacey claims it's her first kiss. So she never kissed any of those other boyfriends she says she’s had?

The Worst Third Date Ever part 14

Chapter 14: New Year

When the December thirty-first arrived. Max was in their bed, wearing his shirt and underwear.

She looked at him and smiled. He looked so cute when he was sleeping and she could not help but fall more for him.

When they went back to DC she will miss waking up next to him every day. She wanted to propose to him the moving in together but it was still to soon.

She was the one who set the 'take things slow' and she already break it. Their first kiss happened because of her after Catherine's kidnapped her dad and sister, their first time making love happened because of her after him been so sweet and gentleman and caring with her family that she could not resist.

This travel happened because of her, so now she realized that her plan was an excuse for not open up to him, but he was so... him that she could not help herself but to open every window, door... everything to him.

But this... moving in was a big step even for her. She ran her hand gentle into his hair, she was careful not to wake him up.

She wanted to wake up like this every day but was not sure if that would be possible with his job.

She remembered talking to Kristy and Kristall at the Christmas party at David's house.

David took his male friends for a friendly round of poker, he and Matt knew Spencer would will but the funny thing will be watching the others getting surprised by that.

At the only people left there were a couple sitting at the living room talking and the two wives of her boyfriend's coworkers.

"So how is it like to be marry a FBI agent?" Max asked to break the ice.

"It's both exciting and terrifying" said Krystall with a smile.

"Same" said Kristy "and I would add that it makes you terribly worry but then when they come back and hug you, it's like the first time" add her "that's why we have five children" they laughed.

"I don't need that much children" said Max laughing "I'm scared, Spencer and I just started dating and I'm already worry when he told me about a case"

"I understand, Matt was part of a different team a couple of years ago. With this team he had to go further than with the BAU. Because they had to go out of the US"

"Wow that must be terrifying"

"It was, but we survived it and I dont think anything would break us. I think after Catherine Adam's face off, you will also survive anything"

"I'm agree. I mean Dave isn't that young anymore but this is his life. He loves this job and this unit and I will support him always"

Max smiled at them, that was what she did, she support him and she will keep doing that "I love Spencer and I want what is best for him. Did David and Matt get hurt?"

"Oh yes honey" said Krystall "David got shot, broke bones, got a little PTSD after Everett Lynch's attack. And I couldn't protect him but I can make sure he recovers from that"

"Same with Matt, he had been shot a lot of times, got hurt, broke bones but like Krystall said, we can't protect them. He is mine and our kids hero"

"Dave told me what he thinks its necessary to keep me informed but not to worry. I know there are more stupid things he does but I kept my mouth shut" Kristy laughed.

"Yeah Matt wrote a book with his adventures but I'm pretty sure he didn't add some details so he won't scare us"

"Spencer still didn't share his work life, not even the light events" she looked at them "I know some things he shared, especially after Cat"

"Don't shut him up to much. He will need you and if he knows he can share something to you, he will. You just have to hug him and ease the pain. Matt and I have a plan if something happens to him. I know its may sounds like to much but I learned that this job is a huge responsibility and they risk their lives for us"

Max nodded and sighs "don't be scared Max, is a cold headed man. I would be more worried about Dave" said Krystall making both women laugh "trust him"

"I do. I did since he helped my nephew when he had a panic attack" she looked at them "it just... I'm so into him that I wouldn't resist if something bad happened"

"You will. That was something I thought myself when Matt told me about what he does for a living" Kristy held her hand "I'm sure when that moment comes you will be ready" Max nodded and smiled at the blonde woman in front of her.

Max wanted to believe her but everytime that thought crossed her mind, her heart skip a beat. Her fingers were into his hair stroking it gently.

After some more minutes she stopped and softly managed to stood up without waking him up.

She headed to the bathroom to take a shower. She was thinking about tonight. Where they will spend the last couple of hours of 2019.

They had a few options one was the Empire State Building where they can enjoy the fireworks, second was Central Park and another was a ferry towards the Statue of Liberty.

She will ask Spencer when he wakes up. When she finished her shower and got dressed.

She put back on his and a fresh underwear. Then Max walked back to the bedroom and Spencer was awake "good morning handsome. Did you sleep well?" She sat next to him.

"Good morning beautiful. Yes it was a great sleep" he smiled and kisses her gently "I will go take a shower, then we can eat and plan what to do tonight"

"Sounds great. I will get out the bread, cheese and butter then you can make coffee"

"Perfect" he smiled and stood up then walked to the bathroom.

Max walked to the kitchen and made some sandwiches for them. Then called her dad.

"Hey dad, how are things going?"

"Great, Michelle planned a barbecue and we will go there tonight. How is New York?"

"Amazing, Spencer has been a gentleman with me. We were in the museum, then eat pasta in the Little Italy, yesterday we were on tour in Manhattan. Today we want to go somewhere to watch the fireworks but we haven't decided yet"

"I'm happy you found such an amazing guy, sweetheart, you were one of my daughters I was more worry about. Since you and Mike broke up you stopped to trust in people but now with Spencer you seem so happy"

"I am dad" she smiled with some tears "my only worry now is... his job. I know he has been doing this for years but it's so dangerous"

"Darling he will be fine, he is smart and knows what to do if things get bad. Also he has something years ago he doesn't... you. He has a girlfriend now and he will want to stay alive for you"

"Thanks dad" she said cleaning her tears and turns to see that Spencer walked in the room "well dad I will call you tomorrow, have a great celebration. Love you"

"Love you too Max" then they hung up then she waits for him to get ready.

Max looked out the window. They had Central Park in front of them, so maybe it could be a nice spot to watch the fireworks without moving to far.

She was so focused that she did not realized Spencer was behind her until he hugged her.

"So what is in this beautiful head?" He asked looking down at her.

She chuckled "well I'm thinking what we will do tonight, sir"

"And what did you think?"

"We can stay in this area of the city, then goes to the park and watch the fireworks then return home. How does it sound?"

"Sounds great, I like that plan" he looked at her as she turned in his arms.

"That's great, and if you have any other idea tell me so we can do something we both want"

"I didn't have ideas. So I like yours" she laughed and wrapped her arms around him.

"Ok then. That's what we will do" she stood on her tiptoes and kissed him softly "let's go to the kitchen and make coffee kind sir"

He laughed and walked to the kitchen. She followed him to toast the sandwiches.

Then they both ate and drank coffee watching an old Christmas movie on TV.

"Spencer" he looked at her "do you want tonight's dinner here or out?"

"Here could be nice. Why?"

"Because I can cook it for us. Something my mom always did for New Year's eve"

"Ok I would like it but do you have all ingredients?"

"I bought them some days ago. I was thinking of doing it some other day but since we both decided to stay here, then I can make it"

"Ok need any help?" She shook her head.

"No I want it to be a surprise" he raises his eyebrow "go read books or check out the parks for good spots"

"Max..."

"Just do it, ok? Trust me"

He just nodded "ok I will go to check the park. If you need something just call me, ok?" She nodded "good" he stood up and walked into de bedroom to put on his shoes.

Meanwhile Max walked to the kitchen to start to cook. She gets out some ingredients and turned on the stove.

She watched as Spencer walked away "see you later honey" she said smiling at him. He just smiled and left the apartment.

Then she started to cook. She was making lasagna. Her mom used to make it every year because it was a family tradition.

Her mom has Italian heritage so they liked to cook that kind of food. Michelle and herself learned dishes from her.

When Spencer arrived she finished the ground meat and the white sauce, now she was cooking the pasta.

"Hey Max, I checked the Central Park. Close to the monument to John Lennon the have chairs to watch the fireworks show. By the way, did you know that his murderer was a huge fan of the band but got mad when Lennon compared the Beatles with Jesus? That must be his trigger" he said fast as he walked in the kitchen.

"Spence I love you but those aren't the kind of facts I like to hear"

"Sorry" he looked down ashamed.

"It's ok" she patted his chest softly "is it free?"

"Yes, so we will need to go early to find seats"

"Ok I'm almost done here and the dish I'm making just need to get in the oven to grill the cheese"

"Ok, do you want me to buy something else?"

"Is there wine?"

"Yes so don't worry. As I said I bought everything. I used my credit card plus my last payment of December to pay it"

"Ok" he smiled at her "you could ask me to pay it"

"No, it was my surprise to you" she smiled and hugged him.

He hugged her back and then she returned to cook.

When the night arrived they both ate and shared some wine. They decided to take down the champagne and two glasses to celebrate the New Year with a it.

They put on their jackets and went down to the park. He led the way to the place the celebration was. There were some free spots so they got one of those. There were tables and seats.

They gave them some hot chocolate and put music on. The night was fun, they met new people. At midnight they all wished a Happy New Year, the couples kiss and the fireworks show started.

After that the rest of their time in New York was relaxed. They visited museums. Spencer threw lot of facts when they visited the American Natural History Museum and the New York Zoo.

They returned to DC on January Third, ready to started a new year.

Badass Black Women History Month: Celebrating 28 Black Women Who Said, “Fuck it, I’ll Do It!” Day 3: Mabel Fairbanks America’s First Black Female Figure Skater

Mabel Fairbanks was the first black person to be inducted into the US Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1997. She was also inducted into the International Women's Sports Hall of Fame. While Mabel coached some of the biggest names in figure skating like Scott Hamilton, Debi Thomas and Kristi Yamaguchi, she was never allowed to compete in the Olympics at the height of her career because of her race. As a black woman skating in Jim Crow America, she was often banned from rinks and competitions. 

Born in 1915 in Florida, Mabel was left orphaned after her mother died when she was 8. Mabel went to live with her older brother in New York City, but his wife wouldn’t allow her to stay with them and she was soon homeless. A wealthy woman saw her sleeping on a park bench and gave her a job as a babysitter in her home overlooking Central Park. Mabel watched the children skating from the Central Park apartment and decided she could do it too. At only 10 years old, Mabel bought a pair of used skates that were too big, stuffed them with cotton and headed to the whites only ice rink. "Blacks didn't skate there. But it was a public place, so I just carried on," she once said. 

By the 1930s, Mabel was a skating sensation, but she was still not allowed into most ice rinks. There weren’t any black skate rinks and she was denied entry to the white rinks. Still, Mabel would return every single day until, finally, the manager let her in. Even though Olympic medalist and nine-time US Champion Maribel Vinson personally took Mabel under her wing as a student, Mabel still wasn’t able to compete in any qualifying events for the Olympics because she was black. 

Instead, Mabel would perform at black charity events and private shows. White producers refused to book her despite her skills. With few options, Mabel decided to move to Los Angeles where she was able to tour internationally, skating with Ice Capades in Mexico and later with Ice Follies. Mabel would go on to coach singles and pairs skating. Many of her students would go on to compete in the Olympics and win gold. Mabel was never bitter and was proud of her accomplishments. In a 1998 interview the Los Angeles Times wrote:

"If I had gone to the Olympics and become a star, I would not be who I am today," she explains. And who she is, many colleagues agree, is the woman who helped break the color barrier in U.S. figure skating, who became a coach and mentor to youngsters of all races, many of whom became famous and many of whom still call her "mom."

Kristi Prokopiak created a deck of Tarot based on mostly 1990s pop culture icons and celebs. (As someone who came of age in the ‘90s, I already like how she thinks.) Although she admits she doesn’t have permission to use their likenesses, I hope none of the celebrities serve her a D&D, because I’m selfish and I want a set. Plus, Kristi is rightly grateful for the opportunity to make enough money selling something of value and beauty that she can now afford to live on her own without roommates … in Southern California. Trust me, I know and understand that struggle.

Happy Month of Love, everyone!

Aside from having a great reading month, January overall was… eventful to say the least.

My mom was hospitalized in the beginning of the month for what they thought was a heartattack. I can’t even tell you how I felt the world fall out from under me when I got that phone call. For years, it has always been issues with my father’s heart, but to hear something happen with my mom, too? I couldn’t handle it.

I rushed to the hospital at 1am, stayed there until 3am, went back to my parents house to sleep for a couple hours before heading back to the hospital and staying there with them for a couple of days.

The good news is she’s home and doing much better now. She got a full workup and everything looks good. They just don’t know what happened – which isn’t ideal, but better than other possible outcomes.

I went back to my parents’ house toward the end the the month and stayed over there so that I could go to a couple days of their library’s book sale. I only found one book for me, but several for my daughter and I got to spend some time with my parents, which was nice.

I barely ate anything while I was there, though, because my diet is so restrictive, and I haven’t quite figured out how to ask for food that I can eat. I end up just telling people I’m not hungry (lies. I’m ALWAYS hungry these days.) I just hate being that person, you know?

Anyway… onward to the usual TeaChat updates:

War (The Four Horsemen #2) by Laura Thalassa I read the first book, Pestilence, last month and gave it 5 stars. It’s such a unique romance about the four horseman of the apocalypse. This horseman, War, seems to be like a Jason Mamoa-type!

Four Psychos (The Dark Side #1) by Kristy Cunning This is my first reverse harem that was recommended to my by the queen of reverse harems, Melissa H. over at @SheIsAnOpenBook. So far I’m actually really liking it and it’s available on Kindle Unlimited!

Still going strong with the mix of the Wahls Protocol and Autoimmune Paleo diet since November when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

This means I don’t eat: dairy, grains, gluten, nightshade vegetables, eggs, soy, corn, white potatoes, ANY type of sugar, NO processed foods, and I try to eat as much organic/antibiotic free/nitrate free foods as possible. I also cut out honey, maple syrup, fruit juice, and dried fruits per my Dr’s instructions, which I used to be able to eat.

It sucks. A lot.

But, my other choices are to either do hardcore drug infusions that suppress my immune system (I work at a school and have two young kids) or risk more flair ups that could leave me wheelchair bound.

I work in an office that is constantly full of treats and coworkers who like to order lunch and breakfast all the time. Like I said, I work at a school and the parents are so lovely and bring food and treats for everyone frequently – but my diet is so restrictive, there is rarely anything I can eat.

I also had this diet throughout the holidays, including Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Needless to say, a lot of people are always telling me, “I don’t know how you do it.” I usually just say, “Pure fear.”

What’s Next?

Though my husband and I don’t have any set plans for Valentine’s Day, I’m sure we’ll at least hang out that night at home with the girls. Normally we’d order in, but I can���t really eat anything from our local restaurants.

I have doctor appointments every Friday this month, which is cute. BUT, I am going to my friend’s house for a reading date later in the month. We are going to cook dinner together (probably make a giant salad full of veggies I can eat!), chat a bit, then read.

It’s also my sister’s birthday this month, and we’re going to have our bookclub and celebrate her birthday all at once. I’m really looking forward to that. We’re reading (I’m re-reading) Marriage for One by Ella Maise. I ADORED that book and I hope they will, too!

Today is the 17th day of November. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I'm Brian. It's great to be here with you today as we kind of move our way toward the back side of the week. And today we will continue our journey through the book of Ezekiel and then when we get to the New Testament, we’ll begin the book of James, and we'll talk about that when we get there. But first, we’re reading from the common English Bible this week. Ezekiel chapter 35 verse 1 through 36 verse 38.

Alright. So, today we will begin the book of James as we move to our New Testament reading. This is an epistle or letter of James, and there are plenty of things that are very interesting about this book because throughout church history it's been questioned in a number of ways. And it’s hard to place exactly when the book was written because it's not exactly known which James authored the book, although there are plenty of traditions around this. There are several candidates; however, the one that seems to bubble to the top of the debate is James, the half-brother of Jesus, who, interestingly, did not believe that Jesus was the son of God during his earthly ministry, but he had a change of opinion when he saw Jesus raised from the dead. This James was a pillar of the early church, leader of the early church, the Jerusalem church. And with him as the author, it would put this book being written in the 40s. And if that is so then it would be one of the earliest New Testament writings. Other interesting facts about the book are that the reformer, Martin Luther, considered this epistle to not be a book found in the canon of the New Testament. His doctrine of Sola Fide or by faith alone seems to be called into question. In the book of James where he says that, faith without works is dead, and seems to support the Eastern Orthodox and Catholic view that grace and faith are what lead to salvation. Either way, I believe that it is in Christ alone that we are saved and perhaps this clarifies the works issue. When Jesus comes into our lives a fundamental shift takes place and that affects everything about us, including our behavior or our works. One thing is for certain, the book of James is a very direct and very bold book written to instruct and correct and even rebuke those who were falling away from their faith, who had allowed questions to cloud their minds under the threat of persecution. And if it had all be summed up, which is never the easiest thing to do, it would be like, live your life by faith and live your faith through what you do. It’s such a poignant message for today that in some ways, the book could've been written last week. So, let's embrace this together. Buckle up. It's a butt kicker. Let’s embrace the challenge that the book of James brings to our lives. It’s not enough to know what the word of God says. We can’t just know it, we have to live it.  And in living it we must answer it's call to action. And, so, we begin. James chapter 1 verses 1 through 18.

Father, we thank You for Your word. And here we are at a time just before things start to amp up and get so very busy, as we move into a season where we’re contemplating and rejoicing in Your arrival. And it's a time of goodwill and good cheer to be sure. The entire world celebrates Your life and Your coming, but it's also a very, very intense time. So, here we are, just a beat before all that gets going and want to thank You for all that we've been through and all that You have brought us through and all that we have gone through together with You so far this year and all that You have spoken to us from Your word. And we look forward to every day until the end of the year as we move our way to concluding reading the entire Bible. And we commit ourselves to not being overwhelmed by the season of joy but to stick to this rhythm, allowing You to speak into our lives each and every day through Your word. So, come Holy Spirit, we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

21 states and DC have canceled K-12 schools to prevent COVID-19

Schools across the country will be closed in the coming days, weeks, and sometimes, months over efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19

While some states have actually left it up to districts to choose, 21 states and Washington, DC have announced the closure of schools statewide.

In addition to public schools, some state leaders have actually suggested or required personal K-12 schools likewise close.

Even in states like California, where schools have not closed statewide, specific districts have actually revealed total shutdowns.

Not all schools are closing. Here are states that have closed down schools in an attempt to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

Alabama schools will close from Wednesday, March 18 until a minimum of April 6.

Alabama State Superintendent Eric Mackey revealed on March 14 schools will close in the coming days and will stay closed up until April 6, according to the Alabama News Network

Mackey said schools would remain open for three days next week in order to give moms and dads added time to get ready for the closure.

” That offers moms and dads three days extra to start dealing with and thinking of childcare,” Mackey said. “We didn’t wish to do something that was too quick since we understand parents need some time to make those decisions for their children.”

Alaska authorities closed all public schools to trainees until March 30.

The Florida Department of Education revealed schools would be closed for 2 weeks– from March 16 to March 27– and classes would resume on March 30, Fox 13 News reported.

Illinois schools should be closed by Tuesday, March 17.

Gov. John Bel Edwards on March 13 announced all schools in Louisiana would close starting Monday, March16 Classes aren’t scheduled to resume up until Monday, April 13, efficiently closing schools for a whole month, KATC reported.

Maryland public schools will be closed through March 27.

Having an Imperfect Christmas? There's Holiness in the Mess

My kids struggle with the difference between expectation and reality. They come by it honestly, really: Their mother (me!) has the tendency to form specific ideas about the world around her and then melt when those expectations fall apart.

At no moment is this dichotomy worse than at Christmas. Fill a snow globe with Hallmark movies, midnight Mass, and a living Nativity that serves cookies and you’ve pretty much got my holiday vision under wraps.

This, however, is not real Christmas family life.

Real life for a family at Christmas is presents that got broken under the tree. It is pink eye and stomach bugs on Christmas morning; a favorite ornament in a thousand pieces, decoratively accompanying the small perpetrator’s feet.

In your irritation, you turn to the mantel where your eyes fall on the Nativity. You see the holy infant and his beatific mother lovingly protected by St. Joseph’s quiet strength. There is a beauty there, a perfection that seems utterly unattainable.

And so you (ahem, I) fall apart.

The thing is, holiness isn’t reserved for the perfect. It’s available to anyone who seeks it, from the simple to the broken to the frail. As mothers, we enjoy a special privilege in that our families work to sanctify us.

The work we do to raise our children makes us holy. It makes them holy as well.

Much like my contrast between real and idealized celebrations, nowhere is this more evident than at Christmas time. Mary and Joseph were already intensely holy people sanctified by the gift of the Son. We make peace and reparation for our own imperfections through the Holy Family. It is through them that we see the westward star.

Fortunately, though, you don’t have to take my word for it. Because I struggle with this sort of holiday slump on my own homefront, I asked a few friends to share their wisdom with me. And so I pass on to you the encouragement of a dozen Catholic mothers, offering the truth of our holiness in the ever-present mess.

Mother Angelica once compared sin to mud. She told a story about three people: the sinner, the good person, and the saint. All of them get muddy at different points in their lives, but it’s their reaction to the mud that sets them apart.

The sinner delights in the mud— doesn’t see anything wrong with it and claims it to be “natural”; something they can’t help.

The good person hates the mud and is distraught when he/she falls into it. The good person says, “I can’t believe I fell into this mess again …” and then wallows for too long (not realizing their pride).

The saint is not surprised when he/she falls in the mud. The saint says, “dang it.” But gets out immediately, spending almost no time at all focusing on it. It’s not a shock to the saint that he/she is kind of a mess … but they keep getting back out of the puddle and they don’t dwell on it.

In our family, we try to imitate the saint in that story. We let things go, forgive ourselves and each other, and then DECIDE to move on. Grace Bellon – GraceSwap

Knowing which things are worth letting go and holding fast to the things that truly edify and fortify your family in the virtues necessary for true discipleship. Also, being honest with your kids about your shortcomings and past mistakes. Piety does not mean perfection. Discipleship is messy and showing your kids how you dust your knees off in the confessional and try again is good to model for them. No kid wants a model of unattainable perfection.

Whatever pursuits you see as good and holy (and they often can be!) will always pale in comparison to everything you put into your family (tending your own garden). Ghostly Celebration

Kristine was happy that she was adopted and they were on Neks to get her paperwork done, banish a queen, and see Lance get new level of piss. There is one more thing that Kristine wanted to do. “Wait. Before we head back to Earth, can...can I show everyone something or some place?” She asked. Kristine hope she wasn’t asking much, but seeing how this happy day, they agreed. “Good. Cause it’s not far from here. Come on.” She said, excitedly.

Kristine couldn’t wait before quickly walking out the castle with everyone looking at each other and following closely behind, as best as they could. Lance, being the curious one, wonders where in the world they are going. Once out of the castle and making a certain hard left, Kristine came to some bushes and pushes it out of the way, revealing a path. Kristine smiled before running down the path. “KRISTINE!” Lance yelled out to the neko, but she was too excited to hear. He only sighs before going after her, followed by the paladin and McClain family. Lance finally catch sight of Kristine, standing at the end of the path.

Houses, covered in the forest greenery, stood there. He was shocked at this place. It look completely abandoned. “Kristine, what is this place?” He asked. Kristine only smiled. “It’s my village, but that’s besides the point. Today is a celebration.” Kristine said, clapping. Lance looks beyond confused. Linda, deeply interested, spoke up. “Mi hija. What kind of celebration?” She asked. Kristine smiled. “The one day of the year...where I can finally say goodbye...a Ghostly Celebration.” Kristine said. Kristine explains the day of where ghosts and spirits that been bound here without a proper goodbye. “I wasn’t old enough to do it myself, but this year...I want to say goodbye, especially to my mom.” She said.

Lance gave a smile. “Alright. Let’s get this party started.” He said. Kristine smiled and nods, explaining what things needed to be done before nightfall where the send off is going to happen. Shiro, Keith, Marco, and Luis to draw a ruin circle around the village. Pidge, Hunk, Veronica, and Rachel were sent out with a picture list of ingredients that Kristine needs for tonight. Lance, Linda, and Kristine was setting up a small area of the place to sit and eat in the heart of the village. Everything was finish by sunset. Now it was race against the clock because according to Kristine, “if y’all think that the clothes that you guys are wearing are gonna be worn tonight, THINK AGAIN!” In Kristine’s tradition, male or female, old or young, everyone is gonna wear a long skirt. If looks could kill, Marco and Luis would be dead because they tried to get out of it. Lance learn the hard way is that you never argue with Kristine. When night came and the star and moon came out, the village seem to light up under the lights that the sky was giving. Soon, a harmonic melody was heard from the trees and different ghostly figure pour in from the ground.

Kristine claps excitedly. When the figure look up and see Kristine, they grew excited. “Kristy! Oh it’s been so long.” One said. “Look, you grown up.” Another said. “Who are your little friends?” spoke a different one completely.

Kristine giggled and introduced her friends and family before seeing the person she wanted to see the most. “MOM!” She squeals when a ghostly figure push through the ghost crowd to get to her. “My little kittycat.” The ghost said. Kristine smiled. “Everyone, meet my mom, Blaze...Blaze Nee.” She said. “Mom, This is Allura, Coran, Pidge, Hunk, Shiro, Keith, Lance, Luis, Marco, Veronica, Rachel, and Linda.” She said. Blaze waved at them. “I would shake hands, but I am afraid I would just faze right through you. Now let’s get this celebration started.” Kristine bounced on her feet as the music and song torn through the trees. Kristine grabs Lance to dance.

It was a weird celebration but if it cause Kristine to smile like that, it was ok. The dancing, the singing, the music, and the food was wonderful. At the end, Kristine knew it was time to finally let go. She moved to the center of the village, barefoot. She took a deep breath before looking up at the sky before starting to chant and stomp her feet to a rhythm. The ghost of her people responded with claps. Each chant, each stomp, each claps. Once Kristine was done, slowly each one raise to the sky, finally freed. Blaze went over to Kristine, wishing to hold her one time. “This isn’t goodbye, I wish you luck in the future.” She said. Kristine nods, watching her mother raise to the sky. She felt Linda holding her hand tightly. Kristine closed her eyes as tears gather in her eyes. “Goodbye, mom. I can finally wish you peace.” She said before turning away from the scene. “Let’s go home.” She said as she walk towards everyone else. Nothing but silence and the footsteps towards was heard. Kristine need time to grieve, but she won’t be alone. When she climbs into the red lion and sat down somewhere, Linda sat beside her, holding her close. Kristine lean on her heavily before breaking down into sobs. Finally, her people can finally rest and be happy and she can grieve properly with the help of her new family.
