I get what youre saying about it coming off too non b n bh like. I think it's cause it's all beavis no butthead, and having like a talking fire, and having a flashback all in one ep. Those are just things the og show didn't really do/do often? But I don't think every ep is gonna be like that, feels like an odd choice for them give us that as a preview.
I think so too! And Imma keep real with you, chief: I feel like the fire bit kinda ran its course.
Like, I get it, Beavis was literally banned from saying that bc of a kid burning down his house and killing his two year old sister and the media blamed it on B&BH (even though it turned out the kid never watched the show and his mom called the news first instead of calling the fire department LMAO) and MTV panicked and did just that. Sure, it was mentioned a few times in the 2011 season and Do the Universe, and Mike Judge seemed really happy about the ban finally being lifted, but the difference between that and the new episode was that in the former media, it was used sparingly. Having a whole episode dedicated to Beavis' obsession with fire seems like it's taking the bit a little too far, and honestly looks like something out of a Rick and Morty episode or something (though I will admit, the flashback of Beavis as a kid is really cute ♥️). Like the episode kind of gives me the vibes of "hey, we know Beavis wasn't allowed to say that back then, but now he can, so what if we did that in a whole episode, wouldn't that be fun?" it just felt like whoever wrote that episode was going too far and stretching it out for what it's worth. Like it's funny, but does it really need a whole episode? Not really, and I don't know why they chose that to showcase at the Comic Con panel yesterday, but I digress. I'm p sure Butthead might appear in that episode (my guess is that in the beginning of the ep, the two of them get into an argument and Beavis heads off his own way, and the whole fire thing is a hallucination of his), but again, as much as I love Beavis, Butthead deserves some recognition too, ya know?
It also kinda reminds me of the 2011 episode, Holy Cornholio, where it takes the whole Cornholio bit, which works better in a 5 minute episode like Vaya Con Cornholio or Buttniks or even a lil bit in both the movies, but not in a 22 minute long episode (aside from the Halloween special, which even that did better than Holy Cornholio). And hell, even THAT was showcased at the 2011 Comic Con panel, it's kind of a funny coincidence, lol.
I'm definitely NOT saying that the reboot is bad by any means. I'm still very much looking forward to it (and some of the episodes shown in the trailer look fun and still give me B&BH vibes!), and I know the first look isn't all that it is, but for now, the first look left me kind of mixed, and I know for sure that when it comes out, I'm gonna have a hard time sitting through this ep ndkfngn

Leviathan Chronicles Audio Drama - Reactions, part 1
So these are some of the reactions i had when listening to it for the first time last year:
I’m still listening to Leviathan Chronicles and it turns out it’s one of the earliest internet audio dramas from 2008. It’s not perfect since some of the concepts are a lil outdated but the blockbuster-style sound design & voice acting is amazing for its time. (This was still the era of flip phones, myspace, & geocities! Youtube was only 1years old.)
The creator is so precious bc you can tell it was created in 2008. There’s no patreon promos yet lol & in one of the outros he said “I got my first iPhone!” “Thanks for talking about us on AIM!” 🥺 He also jokingly blames President Bush for making one of the episodes late xDDD now that definitely dates this show lol.
Nowhere near as annoyingly straight as We're Alive. It does the female characters better than We're Alive. but omg the straightness is pungent. but yeah, if you like 2008 callouts and like crazy action (like think Black Widow "you should have died how are you still alive" action), and can withstand annoying straightness every 5 episodes, its an audio drama that stands the test of time so far.
Actual plot spoilers ahead!
one selling point tho is... its very very DELICIOUSLY violent 8D like on par with or more than darkest night & blood crow stories. altho the characters all have plot armor so no one important really dies :// some of the humans should be lying in hospital beds for 6months. or with major disabilities this is one of those audio dramas that rely on a narrator + voice cast, so there's clear descriptions of whats going on. but for a tasty preview of what happens so far (i havent finished s1 yet... its a HEFTY BOI. thats another downside.): there is a blimp fight, at least 4 submarine crashes & fights, there's been 2 mecha bot fights so far, there is a hospital shoot out, a boat shoot out, lab explosions, monster fights, human torture & testing, the most RIDICULOUS multi-vehicle chase scene in any media i've encountered, and the equivalent to a marvel movie finale battle Ooh it is so fun & stressful & adrenaline-pumping. Altho the characters tend to have an annoying amount of plot armor, so you lowkey know the important ones will survive no matter what shit is going down
Some more leviathan chronicles reactions: Holy moly a shout out to the 2008 Beijing olympics in the story “I think we’re the first podiobook to include a kungfu fight!” Story is written by a white guy & there is no “kungfu” fight. There is a LOT of gun fights tho! And it’s deliciously violent 8D “Hey come to our comic con booth & get free CDs!” “After I finish this podiobook I can be a real writer!”
holy moly am I listening to a marvel movie plot? This is probably the most extravagant motorcycle chase scene that is only matched by that one gang chase scene in Under the Electric Stars. This motorcycle chase scene in the middle of New York City would absolutely crash the characters xD it’s impossible unless you have Marvel movie plot armor I am frustratingly annoyed at how straight this show is tho. It’s nowhere as bad as We’re Alive at least. If this was written today, I’m sure several characters would’ve been genderflipped or queer.
omg there are sooo many twists & backstabbing going on. I think some people may hate it, but I actually find it fun! Oberlin & Whitt: having a flirting 3way fight Mai Lee: what’s going on here O&W: uh guy talk Mai Lee: I’m glad I don’t have a penis Me: DAMMIT WHITT IS SO OBSESSED W ALL THE GUYS THAT HE SHOULD BE GAY. Oberlin & Tulley would totally be an estranged gay couple if it was written today. Mai Lee & Lorelei have super lesbian or at least bi energy too. Same with Evangeline. Harlequin shouldve been a girl. I’m so pissed at Oberlin/Mai Lee … NOOO NATHANIEL!!! First main character death I guess I wish there was an queer audio drama today with as much action & mix of international settings/characters as Leviathan Chronicles (edited)
OMG THIS SEASON FINALE IS SO EPIC I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS. PLOT ARMOR SUDDENLY NO LONGER EXISTS. woohoo. This is like stranger things cuz finally everyone is united and sharing information. Note, I'm still team Evangeline. I have not listened a season finale this stressful since Blood Crow Stories or Primordial Deep or Penumbra. Altho it’s worse cuz it’s like 3hrs of adrenaline

Why Webtoon!Suho is Superior and K-Drama!Suho Needs To Catch Up 👏
Hello, everyone!
Am I here again with another semi-controversial meta? Why, I might be.
If you’d like to catch up with my last meta, which was: Thoughts On True Beauty and Why I’m On Team Suho, you’re going to get a whole butt-load of information on why I’m mostly a Lee Suho-simp, thank you very much.
With that said, to cut the story short, I’ll be listing down some points I’ll be bringing up on this particular topic. Feel free to skip some points if that’s your cup of tea, or if you’re just cruising and find that the points I’m bringing up are not of your interest at all and you’re scrolling by? That’s fine too!
If you’re sticking around though, thank you!
The Points:
Intro: What Do I Mean?           a.k.a. What’s The Deal With Suho (Again)?
Webtoon!Suho vs. KDrama!Suho           Is K-Drama Suho ‘Mary Sue’?
Why K-Drama!Suho Needs To Step Up
How K-Drama Lowkey Didn’t Capture Seojun and Suho’s Friendship
Conclusion: #TeamJugyeong
Full disclosure: I absolutely, completely adore True Beauty — both the drama and webtoon — and this is purely written from my own point of view, based on the thoughts I’ve accumulated by my own deductions. There certainly will be criticism, but mostly I just want to put it out there to hear out what others are also objectively thinking about this. So, let’s go!
I will try to make this one short, but let’s see how this goes :D
Now.
Intro: What Do I Mean? a.k.a. What’s The Deal With Suho (Again)?
To start this, if you’ve read my first meta, then you would know first-hand that I’m completely fascinated with Suho. That is, the webtoon version that’s been presented of him. I find him intriguing for a character that is quite “dull” — but only because that dullness played a part more than just him being a “cool” and “distant” character.
I’ve mentioned before that I do critically think Suho is clinically depressed. It’s actually proven in the original Webtoon that, especially after Seyeon’s death, he went to a therapist and was taking medications for it. Though I’m not quite sure if he’s still following any medical routine in this current arc (the adult arc), we do see a recurring theme in Suho wherein he seemed to struggle with finding any proper passion, it became an important plot device when it was made clear to him that “he never tried hard enough [for anything]”. and him falling back into a certain habit (studying) to avoid the sadness.
(I’m not quite sure the exact quote, but it’s been mentioned again that he was studying to distract himself when his sister confronted him about it.)
I find the way the author portrayed what I’ve perceived as a protagonist with this prominent mental illness was quite refreshing? Not in the way that it glorified the mental illness or the trauma Suho was experiencing which some authors or dramas tend to do, no — what the author had planted was precise, it was realistic.
Suho struggled in a way that’s consistent (from his teen years up to his adulthood, I mean), but you can’t really tell. And that’s the thing with mental illness, a lot of the time, we don’t really see it – but it’s there. In Suho’s case particularly, it doesn’t just go away when Seyeon’s death was finally accepted and the friendship between Seojun and Suho were amended. It’s still there.
That’s quite intricate for the author to do, isn’t it?
Of course, there is so much more to Suho — which I think I’ll be implying here and there throughout this meta — but if you’d like to read more on it, the first meta is just me fangirling from the start till the end.
Now that that’s over with...
Webtoon!Suho vs. KDrama!Suho
I think I briefly mentioned that, for a moment there, I was kinda scared — but also superbly interested and excited – when they announced that True Beauty will be adapted to a drama.
For the first few episodes, especially episodes 1 - 6, it was super engaging, it was sweet, and the chemistry between the casts were absolutely *chef’s kiss*
Now, episode seven was where it went a little downhill for me.
I’ve always had a slight problem with how they’ve portrayed Suho being a “fighter” — that is, him picking up Jiu Jitsu in the drama.
Now, I know! I know! I have the same thought — the drama and the webtoon are two completely different adaptions that really mirrored one another based on characters and premise, and that’s about it. I’ve made peace with that, I enjoyed it even! But I was still a bit iffy about this particular trait because, for me particularly, it was important for me that Suho wasn’t perfect.
And guess what? He wasn’t.
In the webtoon, Suho can’t fight. The one time Seyeon and him almost got into a fight when they were in middle school, Seojun was the one who actually had experience in street fighting or brawling to defeat the bullies. And this is quite important, especially if you’ve been a writer or an author or, hell, even an audience to these mediums, “perfect” characters can often become “mary sue”.
But the thing about the k-drama is, Suho’s ability to fight was purposeful — which was why it was okay for me in the end. It was a way to introduce his father and the strained in relationship they had, he faced foes several times, and, most importantly, he had to protect Jugyeong (karaoke scene).
Now that I’ve seen (SPOILER FOR PREVIEW EPISODE 9) that he could also be musically-inclined? ...yikes. And, yes, okay, I get it! The actor is an idol, so it’s a great homage to his career, but it was still...
It felt like the writers were desperate to fill the gaps for Suho possibly being “dull” as this typical cool and distant character — when, in reality, Suho’s existence as is was quite enough. He didn’t need to steal Seojun’s fighting ability, and he especially didn’t need to rob Seyeon’s musical passion too, to be interesting and have depths of his own, do you get me?
In fact, he was without all of that, and his romance — however short-lived — with Jugyeong was still so sweet and enjoyable in the webtoon. And that’s the appeal of Suho, I think; Suho doesn’t need to be “more” for Jugyeong (like, all he did was study and read horror comics with Jugyeong), just as Jugyeong doesn’t have to appear “more” (with her make-up etc) for them to be interesting to each other. They like one another in spite all of that.
To be honest, if they had made the room about Suho’s mom, which would've thrown people off because “aren’t we still stuck in the Seyeon Arc”?, that’d be an interesting plot line since I have a feeling that the webtoon will be using that as a major plot device soon BUUUUUUT that’s a theory for another day! So—
Why 👏 K-Drama!Suho 👏 Needs 👏 To 👏 Step 👏 Up 👏👏👏
Because, honey, being unnecessarily possessive doesn’t look good on you.
I’m so, SO GLAD that Seojun actually talked some sense into him! Seojun’s absolutely right! In the end, it’s up to Jugyeong who she will choose as her romantic partner! All this, him-walking-in-and-demanding-Jugyeong-to-come-to-him-in-the-slightest-chance-she’ll-be-going-out-with-another-guy is getting boring. And you know what, my guy, you haven’t even asked her out or anything! (Besides from THAT scene at the end of Ep 8, you know what I mean lol)
Like, I didn’t mind when he was just following her because he was curious and jealous, and that led him to quietly “put a stop” to Jugyeong's blind date because the man obviously had bad intentions. I also understood when he threatened Semi Lee’s boyfriend into apologising. That’s fine - while he was manipulating the situation, it wasn’t exactly him telling and/or demanding Jugyeong to blindly follow him and/or go with him or anything.
I actually find it so, so sweet when it became a common phrase between them for Suho to always ask Jugyeong how she’s doing ( “Are you okay?” ) because that’s essentially what his character builds up to: this protector, that goes beyond keeping Jugyeong’s bare-face a secret. He’s really out there making sure Jugyeong is safe, and that’s okay!
That was the character he was establishing to be.
But then the writers pulled out this obsessive and possessive jerk out of their ass? That isn’t Suho. That’s contradicting through the whole build-up of Suho and Jugyeong’s characters from episode one to six. The whole point of why they leaned on one another is because they trust each other so, so, so much.
But in episode seven, Suho was falsely blaming Jugyeong (for sleeping when he was the one who napped) just because he’s “flustered”, taking it out on her when the baseball player just asked for her number (which, well, was understandably creepy, but like, chill bro); and in episode eight, Suho was glaring at Jugyeong the whole time just because he thinks she’s ignoring him and she was around Seojun so much?
Dude....... you never even apologised for those words that you knew hurt Jugyeong in episode 5.
Suho, babes, I love you, but - no.
I get so frustrated because ‘anger’ was never Suho’s default expression; he never truly has a temper. That was always more of Seojun’s trait and it worked with Seojun because it’s consistent throughout his character (in the webtoon). The few times Suho was actually angry to the point of nearly instigating violence in the webtoon are only because he’s pushed by this deep sadness [over the loss of Seyeon].
Rather than a glare in the scene in the beginning of the camp, it’d be more in-character if Suho’d looked like a sad puppy. Because if anything, wouldn’t Suho feel threatened since he has this deep-rooted belief that he doesn’t deserve happiness (a canon line admitted by Suho, himself, in webtoon, and spoken by Seojun towards Suho in K-Drama) and therefore, would have this inferioty complex and would never think Jugyeong would be interested in him? Which was why she’s going to Seojun a lot?
Now, let’s talk about Seojun.
How K-Drama Lowkey Didn’t Capture Seojun and Suho’s Friendship
I think one of the most prominent thing about Seojun and Suho’s friendship was how much they respected one another — especially when it came to their shared love interest in Jugyeong.
This K-Drama? (Sighs) Butchered it a little? Yeah.
Which isn’t wrong, no! But I felt like... firstly, it’s overdue; it’s making Suho look really, really not pretty (character-wise) next to Seojun, which I think is a misstep for the production because shouldn’t your male lead be persistently desirable? (But I didn’t mind lol, my heart is half-rooting for Seojun already *sighs dreamily*); and it really, most importantly, hurt the absolute loyalty and pureness that Suho and Seojun shared together in the webtoon.
Because when Seojun knew that Suho and Jugyeong liked each other? He backed off. He did. He didn’t say one word — not even a slip of a tongue — about his feelings towards Jugyeong.
But Suho somewhat knew, right? And he backed off when he knew he was disappointing Jugyeong by his departure. He makes way for Seojun to be there, however he can be, for Jugyeong while he’s not around. And when they started dating, Seojun and Jugyeong? Suho was supportive throughout.
He was never jealous, there was never one instance where he showed his dislike, and even when Jugyeong casted doubt or talked with Suho about her relationship problems, Suho was always rooting for the both of them. He wanted them to work.
They were all excellent friends.
I understand why and how the K-Drama ended up the way they did currently at episode eight, but in my opinion, I feel like it’s a bit disrespectful to the true friendship that Seojun and Suho shared in the webtoon only to present them as these unending rivals when... when you think about it, it isn’t really Seojun and Suho?
Cause obviously webtoon!Seojun and webtoon!Suho, once they’ve made up that is, were extremely reliable towards one another; they were very encouraging (besides from the slight hiccup when Seojun got a bit jealous); and they were incredibly loyal and understanding of one another’s situation.
I hope we’ll see glimpses of it more in the future, ‘cause I’d pay for nice and slightly-realistic progression of friendship that’s somehow mixed up with romance and how these people are coping with it, rather than just seeing two boys glare at one another while my girl Jugyeong just wanted to go to the toilet 😆
Conclusion #TeamJugyeong
I just want this girl to stop being pushed-and-pulled and happy, man.
I’m still looking forward to more of the episodes and the webtoon, though! I still love the casts, the production, the way the story is flowing so far (because I wanna know what’s gonna happen, you know?) but I do think Suho could’ve been written a bit better? Or, at least, with a bit more consistency?
Or, I mean, maybe he could just start apologising for every reckless actions rather than him getting away with it because he saved Jugyeong? Maybe?
I really still adore him, and I’m still rooting so much for Suho because the times when he was alone with her, he was super sweet? And immediately the sincerity and the core of what made Jugyeong and Suho so appealing to me just came out? Like he has that potential that webtoon!Suho is already at.
I love them so much, ugh.
(Although Seojun, bro, I’m lowkey on your side too. That bracelet he did for her was 💗💗💗💗💗)
I hope everyone’s doing well, keeping each other safe, and if my head’s running wild again, I’ll keep you posted akdjksjhskdhf
Thank you so much for reading!!!!

TWD 9x12 GUARDIANS Thoughts
Okay, so I never posted anything on the last episode because I didn't really have many thoughts on it. I felt bad for Lydia and wanted Daryl to adopt her but I also didn’t want to trust her still kinda don’t... That’s about it, ya know?
For this episode, I had a few thoughts that were here and there but honestly, I just keep thinking about how Judith defended Negan and how we had Daryl find a pretty good hunting partner in Connie and how I feel bad for Henry.
First off, on Judith, she reminded me so much of Carl with Rick. Michonne was getting so upset and I wonder if she saw it too.... But Judith is right about one thing. Michonne has changed and people can change... Now do I think Negan has gone completely straight and narrow? Hell to the No. Do I think he has re-evaluated himself and realized he needs to do some changing? Yes. But that doesn’t mean he’s suddenly good. I don’t buy that for a minute... But I can note that Negan didn’t seem to shocked or upset by Michonne’s declaration until he realized Michonne saw Judith outside the window. The window is Negan’s only sane outreach. It gives him something to watch and do. I can tell you that - from my own family members that have served time - being able to look out a window or have yard time was a big motivation for them to stay sane. But those talks with Judith are probably the only thing that keeps Negan... Content? I guess is the word I mean...  It keeps him sane for sure. He used to have talks with Rick. No one else really talks with Negan. Talking and seeing the world... That probably did have some change to Negan. I do believe that. But as for being completely good? Time will tell.
But I wanna talk about what Judith says. “He listens to me”... That’s a powerful line. Negan didn’t treat Carl like a kid. He had to remind himself that Carl WAS still a kid. To him, Carl was just a young man. To Negan, Judith isn’t just some kid. Yeah, he calls her kid but he never really treats her like a child... And for Judith - to any kid - that’s important. Because it’s true. No one really listens to kids. No one really probably listens to Judith. To everyone,. she’s a child - Rick’s daughter, Michonne’s daughter. Not a valuable member to the community. Not the future of ASZ. Not someone BORN into this world... Just a kid. And in the new world, yeah you want kids to be kids... But you can’t just let them not know how to care for themselves. I think that was a problem with Henry. He didn’t get a full balance. He saw things and knew things but he was never really taught things about people and the world. He got to grow as a kid with some skills but he wasn’t really taught what he needed. I don’t blame Carol or Ezekial for that. Henry is a good egg. He’s a kid. He’s running on his heart and in this world that isn’t bad... That’s what Judith is doing. She’s not stupid. She knows Negan isn’t some saint. But she doesn’t believe he’s some monster, that he can’t change or be good or grow. Carl believed that of Negan and I think it is possible but right now? It’s a matter of time and seeing... He came back. Judith is right. Negan has changed like Michonne has changed... But to what extent? That is what we shall see...
Daryl and Connie are cute. I’m sorry, but they are. She makes him look at her. She makes him acknowledge her (mostly because she needs to see his mouth move sure). But she also acknowledges him and adds to his skills. She didn’t need Daryl to tell her that they had caught up to Henry’s last place. She saw that on her own. Which even Daryl seemed surprised but pleased that she could see what he was seeing... Not even Rick could do that. But she did. Beth is the only other person who showed signs of trying to learn what Daryl knew. Connie knows what Daryl knows. Maybe not in the same way that Daryl learned, but they are playing on the fact that being deaf, Connie HAS to rely on other skills to be able to survive as long as she has. Tracking, observing, smells, and etc are what is keeping Connie alive. Things that Daryl had to teach himself at a young age are things Connie HAD to know to make it through the day. They have that in common. Sure it’s for different reasons. But it’s something they know... Now I want Daryl to pick up sign language because that would just be great okay! Another nonverbal way for him to communicate but still have a way to talk to someone when he can’t use his words... That would be cute and good for Daryl...
Also - on another note - where the fuck is Connie at when Daryl shows up and yoinks Henry and Lydia out of the walker feast fest? I don’t see her in the trailer either? Where did she go? Did they split paths? Did she go back to Hilltop?? Confused lol
Henry... Dude has seen some shit now. I feel bad for this kid. A lot of people hate him and I get why. Hell, he pisses me off at times too... But he’s a TEENAGER. Even Carl made dumbass mistakes and almost got himself killed multiple times. He’s a damn kid. Carl was a kid. Kids do dumb things. Adults do dumb things. He’s got a thing for Lydia - he cares about her - and he wants to keep her safe. That’s not a bad thing... But boy he is gonna have nightmares of that decapitation... I certainly would!
I’m sad I have to miss Next week and the live playing of the show, but I will watch it later. Least it’s recording. Thank you direct tv for that feature... But still, it’s gonna irk me to not watch it on the day of or the night of... Ughhh lol.
From the previews, it looks like Daryl is gonna be in for a rough time against Beta...  In the comics, Aaron shoots Beta in the chest while he’s fighting Jesus. In the comic - before the turn - he was a famous basketball player/actor that Aaron and Jesus recognize (which Beta scarily shoots up and says I have no name and then freaking dies like seriously this guy is hard to kill) and so Daryl is in for a hard fight because... He’s not easy to kill.... But it is exciting to see Ryan Hurst get to rock em sock em with Norman lol.
I’m still not seeing where everything is going with this season... We still have a flashback episode to deal with that’s gonna tell us about the X scars on Michonne and Daryl’s back (I believe the episode is even named “Scars”) and we still need to have this fair, which is probably gonna end in everyone being spiked... Yikes.
Ughhhh this season! What is gonna happppeennn!
That’s all I’ve got to say for now... Not much I know but there ya go.

I saw Infinity War
It was fun! I expected it to be mostly Big Fight Scenes, and that’s what I got. I did find the ending a bit weak, and I’ll explain why behind the cut. Spoilers for both Infinity War and Avengers 4, since I’m going to talk about the set photo leaks:
Listen. Listen. If they wanted me to buy that all those deaths were permanent,  they should not have killed the characters with announced sequels. This is a common problem with Big Summer Comic Events, actually; the blurbs will be all “Oh, will THIS CHARACTER survive???? MAYBE NOT OOOOooooooOOOOoo”, but the previews for the next few months will be advertising that character’s brand new solo title. It just....completely kills the suspense. I know most, if not all, of these deaths will not be permanent, and the ‘death’ of Black Panther and Spiderman just hammered that point home. You couldn’t even leave a scrap of suspense? Really? Idk, this is the exact reason why I don’t read a lot of big summer comic events anymore: the cheap plot points that you know aren’t going to last.
Besides that, it was a fun movie! Some of my favorite parts:
THOR
OKOYE
THAT BLACK WIDOW/OKOYE/SCARLET WITCH/PROXIMA MIDNIGHT SHOWDOWN HELLLLLL YEAAAAAAAAH
Okay speaking of Proxima THEY MADE HER LOOK AWESOME. I always hated her outfit in the comics and I’m SO HAPPY they gave her a visual upgrade.
She kinda looked like a tiefling tbh??
A SPACE DEATH CULT TIEFLING
The Doctor Strange/Thanos fight looked AMAZING. The FX team really brought their A-Game to this film, and it shows!
Spider-Man popping Thanos in the head via portals was A+++
Speaking of FX: THE WAKANDA INVASION. YES.
“It will be the greatest death!” THAT’S MY GIRL!!
The swarm mindlessly tearing through the shield was FANTASTIC and TERRIFYING I LOVED IT
THOR AGAIN THE STAR FORGE SCENE HELL YES THAT’S MY BOY
Did the casting team pick Peter Dinklage just to make that giant dwarf visual pun
Tony was great, but that was unsurprising since this team seem to love Tony Star lol. I have nothing more to add that hasn’t been said on this site already.
I DID catch that the flip phone had unread text messages, and I desperately want to know what they said.
Small updates from the team? Steve tentatively reaching out to Tony? Steve’s drunk dick pics?? We’ll never know.
When will Bucky have actual character development. Why is he always Steve’s Damsel in Distress/Source Of Angst
We’re never going to get comics!Bucky in the MCU, are we
 :( :( :(
At least his scene with Rocket was funny
GAMORA WAS THE HEART OF THIS FILM
WHY ISN’T SHE THE MAIN CHARACTER OF GOTG
WHY
WHO’S PETER QUILL I DON’T KNOW HIM
Okay as annoying as I found Peter in the first GotG film (to the point where I never....saw....the sequel lol), I thought he was decent here? I think it helped that they toned down his silliness.
And as annoying as it was to see Team Galactic fail to remove the gauntlet....I really don’t blame Peter for reacting as he did. Poor guy just discovered the woman he loved (and failed to keep his promise to) died by her father’s hand. That’s awful.
Same for Scarlet Witch re: not killing Vision right away. That’s her boyfriend of two years, of course she’s not going to want to kill him.
The scene in The Collector’s chambers was excellent. Zoe Saldana and Chris Pratt acted the hell out of that script and it was painfully well down. I felt terrible for both of them.
Speaking of the failure to remove the gauntlet, was it just me or was that fight waaaaay better than the final fight in the movie? The final fight was just a slow-mo of each team member going against Thanos one-on-one, and it....kinda killed the tensions. I was super engaged on the Titan fight, and seeing everyone swarm Thanos and lose at the last second was just so tense and well-paced. In contrast, the final fight felt too drawn-out and kinda boring. I wasn’t engaged, I was just waiting for the inevitable to happen.
Maybe that was the point idk WHY DID THEY MAKE IT BORING THE REST OF THE FIGHTS WERE SO GOOD WHAT HAPPENED
Despite the terrible final fight, I did like the abrupt ending. Very appropriate.
And now I eagerly awaiting the sequel AVENGERS: TONY AND NEBULA’S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE. The leaked set photos definitely hint that Tony is going to go back in time, but I don’t think he’s going to get the gauntlet. I think they’re going to stick to the comics and give Nebula the gauntlet, or at least some of the stones. Maybe they manage to nab the Time Stone and Tony goes ‘Fuck it, TIME TRAVEL’, while Nebula stays behind so she can finally get to kill her shitty dad.
Speaking of said shitty dad...god they made Thanos look like an IDIOT. Like really??? You want to save the universe by killing half of it??? Why not use your all-powerful galactic glove to idk MAKE INFINITE RESOURCES. I think Thor’s line at the beginning was spot-on: what Thanos actually wants is to be a god. A god with a shitty, shitty plan that would be a temporary solution anyways because the SURVIVORS WOULD REPRODUCE YOU ABSOLUTE DUMBASS I WOULD HAVE PREFERRED HIM WANTING TO FUCK DEATH THAT WOULD HAVE MADE HIM LOOK LESS STUPID
GAAAAH
(still a fun movie though would recommend, better than AoU and CW)

It took three episodes to build up my interest, and another three to tear it down apart... *sigh*
As usual, my internet has been acting up all day. To the point that I've already postponed this to go up tomorrow (October 21st). But since the internet gets better, and the post is pretty much done, I've decided to just publish it today despite being a few hours late. Just in case my internet goes bad again during the weekend. Here goes...
05 - "My Secret Identity"
- Remember how the preview in episode 4 teased that Souichi could be working for Faust, and became its traitor? Well... that was undoubtedly misleading. - This episode confirmed that Souichi was the astronaut who discovered Pandora's Box, and indeed triggered the Skywall Disaster (but not on his free will? Hmmm) to steal two of its panels. But he wasn't working for Faust! He delivered one of the panel in exchange for Misora, who was held captive. It explained why and how Misora was able to 'purify' the Smash Essence, because she was part of Faust's experiment. Unfortunately, this also blatantly pointed out the writing's flaw. If being a shut-in was because Misora is still being hunted by Faust, then wouldn't apearing as net idol to search for underground information... recklessly gave herself away? I mean, it's not like she's wearing a mask or significant costume that would disguised her in any way. - At the same time, plot-driver Sawa also had an important discovery. Sentou's past! Ooookay, turns out it was NOT that important. Sentou Kiryuu's real name was Tarou Satou, and he was an eccentric band member alongside his equally goofy and sloppy schoolmate Tatsuya Kishida (played by Tarou Pinboke). Their band was called "Lynks", a name as plain as his real one. I know, right? What an underwhelming reveal. Perhaps the show attempted this reveal to be a comedy, but as I've repeatedly said, humour is definitely its weakest link. Meh... - The more important bit of information was the day he disappeared: September 5th. 'Tarou' was going to test out for a new drug, or something, which might explained how he got abducted by Faust. But of course, before Tatsuya was able to tell more, our baddie Blood Stalk (yes, it's 'Stalk' and not 'Stark') showed up and... ended up snatching him away. Looks like Tatsuya's annoyingly bad dental arrangement was a sign of doom all along. Naturally, he ended up as the episode's MotW/Smash. Predictable much? - Oh well, at least the fight between Build and Stalk was neat. Stalk blocked the former's "VORTEX FINISH" (yes, 'Vortex' and not 'Voltech') very easily, and expressed his desire to see Build... grow stronger. Wait, what? I wonder what truly is Faust's goal here? Hmmm. By the way, Gentoku and Utsumi were at it again. Since Stalk was in the same scene, obviously neither of them was its true identity. There's that. - New Full Bottle debuted. Comic Full Bottle? For a supposed science-based Rider, this show really goes beyond science. Comic didn't fit the biological/tech angle, unless... that's never the case from the start? Could it be, it's our fault for expecting or assuming too much too soon? - Once again, Ryuuga (who indeed is sleeping on the SAME bed. Does the show have so little of a budget, it can't afford separate rooms?) pulled off Comic's Best Match... with Ninja. HUH? "Naruto"-inspired? Thankfully, NinninComic form was impressive both in design and action. I loved the color scheme, and the 'Ninjitsu'-style attacks (like duplication and some others) were cool. This is definitely the most useful form so far. The show was about to end in a good note, until... - Sentou was carelessly caught off guard by Ryuuga once again (no kidding! TWICE already), who knocked him down and turned Tatsuya back into a Smash. Yep, I didn't know that's actually possible. Misora was to be blamed, as she's the one who planted this wrong idea to Ryuuga's simpleton's head. Would Sentou react in a hostile way because of this? The answer is in the next episode...
Overall: This was an underwhelming episode. I was kind of hoping for a powerful reveal about Sentou's past, but it wasn't even that important. Instead, the good part came for Souichi and Misora, who unfortunately were brushed off fairly quickly to pave way for Tatsuya's arrival. The butt-head argument between Tatsuya and Ryuuga was nice and all, as they seemed to by vying for Sentou's attention. But overall, this episode wasn't as strong as the previous three that have managed to grab my attention. So to be honest... I'm disappointed.
06 - "In the Belly of the Beast!"
- Let's continue. Unnecessary long 'previous episode' review aside, how would you expect Sentou to react for Ryuuga's action? Well... not as 'fun' nor 'tense' as I had imagined. Perhaps because Sentou had less memory with Tatsuya, and had spent more time with Ryuuga instead? Hmmm. - Ryuuga's plan actually worked. Re-Smash-ed Tatsuya wandered back to Faust secret base! But sadly Build had to come and save his ass again, which led to their bickering scene (with a touch of fist-fight). This was however, an important scene. We got to see that the Build Driver somehow only worked with Sentou, as Ryuuga got electrocuted when he tried to use it. It led Sentou to tinker a sentient gadget called Cross-Z Dragon for Ryuuga, so he could utilize the power of his Dragon Full Bottle. Yep, it's definitely the second step for him to become Kamen Rider Cross-Z (that's the official romanization). For now however, it worked as some sort of pet/babysitter... that has the ability to suck poison from Ryuuga's body. CONVENIENT! - Hazard Level? Night Rogue felt Blood Stalk has been trying to raise Build's level, and didn't seem pleased about it. These Faust duo are definitely toying with Build... and also Ryuuga (Stalk openly used plural for Build) in their own way. But what for? I still couldn't get it. - Hey, Sentou's working at the Institute! Now that's a rare sight. LOL. Seeing his employee hard at work, Gentoku openly shared more information about Takumi Katsuragi, and about the gas emitting from Sky Wall that they branded as Nebula Gas. Utsumi seemed unsure to hand out Katsuragi's research to Sentou, but Gentoku didn't mind. And responded with a... suspicious smile? He's totally up for something here. Could he be secretly leading Sentou to pinpoint the... Faust Lab? That seemed to be the case. Cunning Gentoku totally knew more than he should've. Was he in cahoots with Stalk? - Sentou and Ryuuga discovered the base. It's the lab where they were experimented on! Home sweet home, huh? It's interesting that only halfway through episode 6, and we've already in the enemy's headquarters. This was FAST, so Sentou's identity arc might be wrapped pretty soon. But this show have got to be kidding me! The lab was on the verge of exploding (following Build's berserk against Stalk), and the Faust soldiers were trying to transport the other victims of human experiment... yet Sentou and Ryuuga went into a long emotional private talk instead? YIKES. This show tends to choose bad timing for this kind of scene, and this might be the most ridiculous example. It's like audience was expected to assume that time froze or something like that, until they've done their heart to heart talk... *sigh*. - The episode ended in a more baffling manner. After being rescued, Tatsuya opened up that Sentou could have been the real culprit in Katsuragi's supposed-murder. How so? Because Tatsuya dropped him off at Katsuragi's apartment, precisely an hour before Ryuuga arrived there. It could be an attempt for a cliffhanger, but it felt forced instead. And it got more irritating, as Blood Stalk walked into a brand new Faust lab facility while talking in the phone with... *drumrolls* Gentoku. Nope, that's not where it annoyed me. It's what was shown afterwards in the preview! Because... wait for it, following a commerical break that somehow included the Faust "Trans-Steam Gun" and "Steam Blade" in it (Over-Time's fansub didn't include this, but it was in broadcast), we got to see Gentoku using a Full Bottle, revealing that he is... *sigh*
Overall: Way to go, TOEI! You always ruin the fun of discovery by showing too much on the next episode's preview, and you've done it again with this one. To put it worse, the startlingly problematic second half was just part of other major issues I had with this episode. It felt messy and well, missed out plenty of potentials to actually surprise audience in a positive way. That exaggerated chit-chat scene between Sawa and Misora about boyfriends, extras (those other victims) who ridiculously acted very poorly, and Sentou's supposed emotional explosion that never felt believable? And then that spoilerish preview? What a bummer... *sigh*.
07 - "The True Face of Night Rogue"
- Let's address the biggest, gigantic elephant in the room right away. Gentoku Himuro. The charming Gentoku who sleazily tried to harrass Sawa while spreading suspicious smirks and grunts every now and then, is indeed, totally, undeniably Night Rogue. So basically, this series does the complete obvious, by rehashing the exact same trope of last year (remember Kamen Rider Genm?). This is well... such a let-down, because I admittedly expected it to be different, if not better. Unlike Build's brother show Kyuranger that continues to prove its forte of being enjoyable and unexpectedly surprising over and over again, Build is sequing through the predictable path instead. - Not sure how I feel about it, but this reveal officially made Gentoku's entire movements more and more confusing to follow. Is Night Rogue really the leader of Faust? Then why would he follow Stalk's every order, as if he's the second in command? Before this, we saw him being fascinated with Stalk's action, and then in this episode, they butted heads and got into a disagreement. He claimed to Sentou that he fired Katsuragi for doing illegal human experiments, but he obviously has been doing it himself. What's that about? Does he have dual personality? - I understood that he's aiming to build Kamen Rider for military purposes. But if he has known Sentou is Build from the beginning, why have he and Utsumi been pretending in the Institute that they didn't have a clue? Spilling out details one after another, leaking information to the 'enemy', while in various occasions looked so desperate to capture them (Gentoku's weird reaction in episode 5 in particular, just felt all wrong). Inconsistent much? Hmmm... could he be intentionally toying with Build? Didn't seem so, and that's... pointless anyway. Not to mention, WHY OH WHY? Build kept using new Full Bottles (doesn't take a genius to figure out that he has Misora who can purify them, as well as the Pandora's Panel that Faust is looking for), then why didn't Gentoku just follow him to Cafe Nascita, and scored multiple jackpots? He DID easily follow Sentou and Ryuuga to stop them from going to the dry-soiled Hokuto region, right? Confusing! *sigh* - I guess Gentoku's first transformation sequence and the "MIST MATCH" tagline was meant to look cool, but it sure didn't feel that way and came off as unnecessarily flashy. Interestingly, he outpaced Ryuuga to become the official 2nd rider of the show. A fact that made me speechless. - Also, I'm calling it now. Blood Stalk is none other than Katsuragi. Who else, right? Why on Earth would his actor be promoted into a recurring cast recently. It signaled that he's way more important than just mere cameo (remember Kamen Rider Para-DX?). The way Stalk boldly proclaimed Takumi to be the founder of Faust, was way too suspicious anyway. Just like Gaim and Ex-Aid, looks like everyone who's not comic reliefs might end up becoming a Rider. - Thankfully, Takumi's mother Kyoka Katsuragi (played by Komura Hiro) became a highlight to this episode. Ignoring the odd facts that led Sentou to Hokuto (how would Takumi even bothered to give out obvious hints via his logs, one that would shockingly be deduced as anagram? How is that even scientific? Also, another cosplay joke for Ryuuga... *sigh*), the drama bit between the middle-aged local teacher and Ryuuga was moving. This was the woman who thought of Ryuuga as her son's killer, but had to swallow the bitter pill when she learned who was truly the evil one. - There were other good points. Cross-Z Dragon was the episode's MVP, by aiding in the battle against that child-based Smash. I also digged the fact that the Rocket Full Bottle actually belonged to Stalk, and was not Sentou's to begin with. The switched ownership was neat, and shook things up a little. Ryuuga and his knack for Best Matches was another delight to see. - RocketPanda form however? Not a good looking form that resembled "Kamen Rider Fourze" too much, but in an ugly way. And the show once again broke its own rule, this time through the reversed naming order. Another inconsistency?
Overall: On one hand, the show 'succeeded' in trying to make audience continue guessing whether Gentoku is Rogue or not. On the other hand, the road towards that was shaky, flawed, and the outcome was merely another underwhelming 'Meh' at best. It didn't feel like a surprising twist, simply because the show didn't even try to smartfully plotted it as one. Heck, it was already openly revealed on the preview *sigh*. I developed good faith after seeing how the show evolved from episode 2 to 4, yet it took episode 5 to 7 to burn them all down and left me bitter in disappointment. With poorly handled characters, shift of tones that doesn't flow well, and writings that feel surprisingly sloppy, this show just does not feel enjoyable and promising to me anymore. Many have pointed out that it might be too early to drop a Tokusatsu show around this number of episodes, because things usually gets better and only truly shapes up in the second arc. But I'm not sure I have the patience to go much farther... *sigh. For now, I'll stick around for just another 2 episodes. If my interest isn't picking up by then, I'm definitely shelving this series for good. That's not a threat, by the way. Just an acknowledgement that this show is just... NOT my BEST MATCH. Next Episode: That hedgehog is on FIREEEEE... PS: Eiji & Ankh! Dark-haired Takeru!! Human-Kouta!!! And Gentarou!!!! At least that "Kamen Rider Heisei Generations FINAL" movie looks like an interesting mash-ups...

History of YOI fandom
As a YOI fandom grandparent, I felt it was my duty to write out all the fandom explosions for the newer fans who weren’t there to witness the big bang and gradual week-by-week creation of this universe. All the arguments, people blowing things out of proportion, blaming characters, death theories, awesome fans clearing up miscommunications, YOI breaking the internet...
This isn’t a post to call out specific people on their arguments and theories - I’ll stay respectfully away from restarting flames and picking fights, thankyouverymuch. Rather, this is an overview of the topics and conflicting views that swept across hundreds and thousands of people and prompted strong reactions. I’m doing this now, because I know that 6 months later, 1 year later, 3 years later, etc. there will be new fans who will have many of the same exact arguments. We’ve been there and done that. I see fans now who say things without knowing where the spelling/quote comes from, or who don’t realize how much has changed, or don’t know why there are certain perceptions of characters. So here’s a little bit of passing down history.
I also don’t want to forget the crazy ride this was. Laugh with me at the silly theories; smile with me at how deeply YOI has impacted our lives. For those of us old-timers, let’s take a trip down memory lane. Remember when...
---------------- (Large arguments will be italicized or bold. Special thanks to @sachiro for reminding me of a bunch of stuff I missed, and looking over the draft in its various stages of being written and edited.)
Pre-series
Idea that there would be a love triangle (Yuri P.--Yuri K.--Victor)
Some fans started spelling Yuri Katsuki with two “u” in order to tell them apart.
Victuri ship name created for Victor x Yuri K. (in a comment to the PV)
The title
“lol ‘Yuri’ on Ice? Where are all the lesbians?”
“When it said Yuri on Ice, I thought we would get girls. Y’know what I mean?”
“Yuri on Ice? More like Yaoi on Ice! amiright?”
etc.
J.J. misspelling (English spelling “Jean Jack” instead of French Canadian “Jean-Jacques”)
you can see the remnants of this in the audience banners during the episodes, but it was corrected to “Jean-Jacques” on the official website and the in-show text
Phichit x Seung-gil ship created (there was more art for this than for Victor x Yuuri)
Episode 1
Victor vs. Viktor spelling arguments
Although “Victor” is the official spelling and seen in-show, people argued that the creators are wrong and that we fans know better than them about Russian culture - thus the “Viktor” spelling was born.
People argued back that spelling is subjective and you can spell a name multiple ways and still be correct - thus transliterating his Russian name into English as “Victor” would be just as acceptable.
The YOI wiki held fast for a time on using official spellings and information from the official website, but the transition of power led to a new team that started using agreed-upon info rather than solely using official info. “Viktor” replaced “Victor” on the website.
this change from “Victor” to “Viktor” on the wiki happened around episode 2~3, but the arguments were in the page comments since episode 1 -- with moderators explaining their reasoning with sticking to official sources.
Victor is a flirtatious over-the-top character who will seduce Yuuri
Victor is the overwhelming seme and Yuuri is the shy whimpering uke.
People dropping the anime because Yuuri is overweight; people commenting that they don’t want to see an overweight main character
in addition, some people dropping YOI due to feeling that the series was “fat shaming” by using Yuuri’s weight as a point of comedy.
Conversely, some people praising that we have a main character that gains weight and actually has an overweight appearance.
“Japanese Yuri” &“Russian Yuri” or “Yuri K.” &“Yuri P.” were used to differentiate between the two characters since they shared the same official English spelling “Yuri”.
Starting with ep1, “Yuuri” spelled with two “u” became more widespread due to convenience when typing.
Japanese fandom simply used kanji for Yuri Katsuki and katakana for Yuri Plisetsky.
Some fans argue that Yuuri is more correct because in Japanese his name is ゆうり(yu-u-ri). Other fans argue that “Yuri” is still acceptable transliteration because there are multiple spelling systems (Hepburn, etc.) and an alternative correct spelling would be with a macron (Yūri).
Fans point out that Yuri’s name would be spelled “Yuri” in official documents anyway due to lack of macrons on many keyboards.
Spoilers for episodes 1-3 were out because of the two Western fans who witnessed the first three episodes of YOI in a Tokyo preview screening.
fans relied on a certain blogger for info on YOI.
“WHERE DID YOU SEE EPISODES 2&3???” was asked every 5-10 minutes (literally) and became an inside joke with us old-timers.
Yuuri = Yuzuru Hanyu, Victor = Evgeni Plushenko.
Some fans link characters with real-life skaters to encourage anime fans to watch real skating.
Some fans saw these as one-to-one connections without considering that characters are a mix of various real-life skaters, and then went onto YouTube videos and spammed about “real-life Yuuri.”
YOI fans being rude to skaters and sending emails to ship these real-life skaters (emails sent even to skaters who are married with kids)
Amazing researching fans:
find Victor’s apartment and the beach from the ending credits Instagram roll.
Love hotel
Makkachin’s name found in magazine Yuko was holding
speculation starts on what “Makkachin” means and how it should be transliterated (Makkatine, Mocatine, Makkatin, etc.)
Comparisons of Yuuri to the main character from Parasyte due to similar appearances (Tadashi Hiramatsu, the character designer who adapted Kubo-sensei’s initial designs for animating, was the main character designer for Parasyte).
Speculation on the year in-series starts.
Yoyogi for Worlds doesn’t match with Sochi as the GPF location.
Yuuri’s iPhone model is seen as a clue.
“Yuri on Ice” trends for 6 days on Tumblr
Episode 2
Victor is manipulative:
He’s a playboy and flirting all the time
In episode 1 Minako mentions that he is desired by millions.
His wink in episode 1 shows that he casually flirts with fans.
He will break Yuuri’s heart. He came to romance Yuuri, then drop him later.
He’s already pushing into Yuuri’s space with the chin-touching. That MUST mean he’s suave and planning to seduce and drop him.
“Victor calling him ‘piglet’ is so mean!” -- an extension to the fat shaming debate of episode 1.
Yakov’s angry comment to the press = more fodder about Victor being selfish and only there in Hasetsu for his own pleasure.
Victor is horrible because he broke his promise to Yurio x-number of years ago.
All of his happy smiles are a facade and he can’t actually be that nice.
Counterarguments to trust the creators and wait to see more about these characters because it’s only been 2 episodes.
Koibito translation nitpicking (it’s not “girlfriend,” Victor is saying “lover.” It’s a gender-neutral term.)
people calling this queerbaiting
“It can’t get any gayer!” line starts to make its appearance.
Ship name “Victuri” cemented. “Victuri sounds like victory!”
Arguments about spelling it “victuuri,” because of the trend with spelling Yuri K.’s name as Yuuri to differentiate the two Yuri’s.
Counterarguments that “Victurio” would be for Yuri Plisetsky, so therefore “Victuri” would be fine for Yuri Katsuki.
Evgenia Medvedeva starts watching around this time and posts comments on her twitter account.
The livestreaming IRC group is started. There were about 15 people tuning in (this grows to the hundreds by the last episode).
Mira makes her appearance (more of an appearance than the brief flash in ep1). Her name isn’t announced yet so some people nickname her “Natasha” (after the Marvel comics character Natasha Romanova/Black Widow)
Episode 3
Yurio was robbed.
and all the counterarguments against this.
score calculating posts begin to show up.
“Victor is manipulative” evolves into “Victor is evil”
“he didn’t keep his promise to Yurio”
people ignoring that he actually did keep his promise to choreograph a program
Eros story Yuuri tells Nishigori = parallel to how Victor will abandon Yuuri in the end. Victor is the evil playboy, confirmed!
People fighting this with meta about how Yuuri is the seductress keeping the playboy, and this was all Yuuri’s interpretation -- Victor may have had another story in mind and we’ll never know what it was. (<---until episode 10)
He forgot Onsen on Ice was about the competition and was there playing around as Hasetsu ambassador. He doesn’t REALLY care about the two Yuri’s.
“he didn’t notice when Yurio left and was having the time of his life with Yuuri on the podium”
Victor’s super-serious expression when Yuuri hugged him means he doesn’t care.
“Make a man pregnant” - the start of the ABO fic influx
“Katsudon ga daisuki da yo” is how we say “I love you” in YOI.
Boyfriend shirt has taken on a new level: boyfriend costume.
Yuuri and genderfluidity
quite a few fics were spawned from this topic too
YOI is not yaoi -  how genre is not the same as tags. Posts clarifying what yaoi actually is and why Yuri on Ice doesn’t fit that genre at all.
Yuuri getting more confident by episode 3 already - initiating hugs and contact with Victor. “How much more gay can we get!? They already said ‘I love you’!”
Fanfic explosion
due to Victor’s character being slightly more fleshed out, and the relationship between characters becoming more established
Top!Yuuri starts to make appearances
Going in blind to the episodes from here-on-out because the fan report from the screening was only through episode 3.
Real life skaters are noticing and posting on social media about YOI.
Evgenia Medvedeva, Denis Ten,  Deniss Vasiļjevs & Stéphane Lambiel, Ashley Wagner, Danny O’Shea and many others from here on.
Masterpost soon created to document all these skaters.
Kubo-sensei tweets about episode 4 being her favorite
Episode 4
Victor has cancer/is dying.
He was so dramatic and playful when he joked about balding. That means he’s hiding something. Balding = cancer. Therefore Victor is dying! (Note that cancer doesn’t cause balding, although it’s treatment with chemotherapy does.)
Victor being that out of breath must mean something is wrong.
Victor’s comment about injuries =
he’s hurt but hiding it
we can expect someone to be injured later
Rise of fanfiction featuring Victor with large past injuries he’s kept hidden.
Celestino getting annoyed at Victor = more fodder for Victor being evil.
No coach likes him - that means he must be untrustworthy and there must be something that he’s hiding that we don’t know yet.
The Old Man in the onsen becomes a fandom celebrity for a while (captain of the ship)
Victor’s comment on Yuuri’s stamina = fic fodder
“You meet me where I am” - fans exploding at how meaningful this all is and how far they’ve come in four episodes.
“What do you want me to be to you”
---Victor said “koibito” but subs say “boyfriend”
---Daddy kink: “A father--” “Yes!”
this is when we start to see this kink in fics and fanart/comics
Phichit makes his appearance. Fandom explodes with glee. People pointed out his appearance in episode 1 and more explosions of “no detail left behind”
Aeroflot
Enter Lilia and her teaching Yurio.
Evil Lilia and Yakov
“Yurio should have stayed with Victor”
Kubo-sensei laughs at the rumors of Victor dying.
Everyone and their mother tries to learn to make katsudon - various recipes float around; Crunchyroll releases recipe (Nov 4).
Jokes and critique about YOI dub (Gru!Victor; Russia(Hetalia)!Victor)
Episode 5
Victor obviously knows no Japanese at all vs. Victor obviously knows a little Japanese after living there for 6 months (about whether or not Victor understood Yuuri’s love declaration due to him commenting about the tie and not the confession)
Fan comics/art and fanfiction about burning Yuuri’s necktie
JARAN jacket (that one scene with Yuuri’s jacket misspelled)
Lots of flailing and dozens of gifs of the lip balm scene
awesome fans finding the exact Chanel lip balm
Yuuri’s confident walk = flailing and keyboard smashing moment (gifs with explosions behind him)
Hug meta (back hug; “do the hands on neck mean anything?”)
Minami is a chicken nugget (McDonald’s colors + being small)
First time we hear Victor’s thoughts - people discussing this
Victor’s image shifts away from “evil Victor” towards something a little more positive
Leaks of the Oh! Skatra!!! Tracklisting (Nov 6).
Duetto title makes people freak out
Speculation on who will skate what piece.
Speculation starts on who will appear in which GP series competition.
Pre-episode 6
Jealous/Possessive!Victor due to the ending image in ep5 of him wrapping his arm around a flustered Yuuri.
speculation on where that is and who took the picture
Dengeki, the website that posts teaser pictures and text of various anime’s next episodes, posted a teaser summary on their site that used quite a few innuendos.
Starting from here, YOI episode previews start to be released later and later. This becomes a running gag among fans who stay up to wait for previews.
Episode 6
Chris makes everyone uncomfortable.
wet ice comments
People freaking out about the hand holding (“koibito tsunagi/lover’s hold”) then about the lip licking
Victor’s innuendo and lewd mouth animation
Victor actually is sexually attracted to Yuuri
Paired with Yuuri being comfortable with Victor clinging naked to him at the restaurant, and worrying that people would think he’s not serious about the competition = fans arguing how far they’ve gone
Queerbaiting arguments still continue ( “fujoshi bait” and “fanservice”)
“Ai ha katsu” (Love wins!)
Georgi is an Evil Witch
Leo = awesome representation (non-white character representing the U.S.A.)
Phichit meme ( “scandalized” with hand on mouth)
Phichit is captain of the Victuri ship
Kubo-sensei posts summary of The King and The Skater
Pre episode 7
Dengeki, what in the ever living F is that preview summary (twitter)? Along with the shortened version.
Another preview summary wtheck comment - this time from a YOI animator, Itou Noriko
“Drastic measures”??? Will Victor hug Yuuri? Violence? Harsh words? Kiss on the forehead or MAYBE the cheek?
fanfics, comics, lots of speculation
Episode 7
Kiss vs. Hug
drawings/charts/tracings to prove it was a kiss
queerbaiting comments continue
Western fans ask Kubo-sensei for a direct answer; she’s amused that Japanese fans didn’t need confirmation yet Western fans did
Yuri on Ice trends on Tumblr for two days at #1 (previous episodes had trended in top 3 for about a day).
“Japanese censorship is what made them cover the kiss!” -- and the subsequent posts that stopped this misinformation.
“Victor is evil” continues - he was cruel in the parking garage and the queerbait lip hug was obviously just consolation
Chris, stahp! (more wet ice comments)
Guang-Hong is badass, Leoji ship sails further
Georgi is creepy, some people hate Anya, some feel sympathy for her
Georgi’s outfit = figure-skating Elsa (photoshopped pictures)
Head boop
Aired after the U.S. election - “episode 7 is the only good thing that happened this week”
“YOI singlehandedly saved 2k16”
Watchers dropping the anime because Victuri became canon.
some people liked the anime as long as it was still ambiguous. This kiss/hug scene made it much less ambiguous and left them feeling awkward.
some people liked it as long as the pairing was not mainstream - they liked being a niche shipper.
Conversely, more people started watching once they heard it was canon and not queerbaiting/fan service.
Johnny Weir homage with young Victor’s outfit and rose crown at European Worlds.
Johnny hears of this and adds YOI on his to-watch list.
Kubo-sensei tweets about a certain scene - confirms and does not confirm it as a kiss
pre-Episode 8
Will YOI talk about homophobia and LGBT hatred?
They’re going to Russia next - lots of fanfiction about Victor dealing with past and current homophobia, and how Yuuri and Victor would act during their stay in Russia.
Magazine had the titles for episodes 8 and 9 - “Victor returns to Japan” has people theorize about what could be drastic enough to have him return.
Kubo-sensei strikes again:
tweets about looking forward to Dengeki’s summary this week and ends up trolling the fandom.
being one of us and wanting them to get married already.
Makkachin’s name revealed to have no meaning.
Dengeki posts 5 hours later than normal.
Episode 8
Angry fans yelling “Why didn’t they use this chance to address hatred?”
People arguing about how this is nice because we already have so many other series about hatred and would it kill them to let us have ONE nice thing in life? Let’s just appreciate that we get a happy relationship with no prejudice or hatred from the world for once.
Kubo-sensei defending the hate-free world she created.
Seung-gil feather duster/parrot/swiffer comments and comparisons.
Sala vs Sara
official site and subs romanized her name as “Sala” but a more natural spelling would be “Sara.” (sala means living room in Spanish and Italian)
wihin the week, the spelling was corrected on both the website and subs to “Sara.”
Mila Babicheva was also changed to Mira Babicheva at this time.

Speculation on what Yuuri will place - and who will make it to the GPF.
J.J. and the cross - many understood it as a religious motion, but it was soon linked by figure skating fans to Yuzuru’s cross motion to check body axis.
Kissing the ice - seen as “J.J. is so narcissistic and kissing himself,” then disputed by other fans as a sign of respect for the ice much like real-life athletes do with the ice, track&field, and court.
Yurio x J.J. shipping starts
Sub!Victor fanfic boom, BDSM, foot fetish, and other related body worship fics
YOI trends over Barack Obama (Nov 24)
Katsudon recipe released by Funimation on Yuuri’s birthday (Nov. 29)
Preview images for ep9 of Sara encroaching on Yuuri - some people worried that this would be in-series drama or that fans would ship it.
Dengeki still posting way later than they used to. This leads to lots of waiting and loss of hope for future episodes until…
Episode 9
Freaking out over the airport scene:
“What did Yuuri’s tears mean???”
relieved/touched Victor cares for him and returns feelings? All the emotions catching up from their separation and the hard skating?
guilt over hiding that he will retire soon? Sadness that this will only last 2 more weeks?
Clarifying why Victor brought up “proposal” (“Why does what Yuuri said sound like a proposal?”)
People “fixing” the subs (mis)translate the word “koto” as if it was the word “mono” and end up making Yuuri’s line to Victor sound super possessive/cheesy as a result.
Yuuri mentioning that he’ll win gold prompts discussions about “Does Yuuri need a gold medal to be happy? Is a gold necessary for his character?”
Fandom exploding over Yurio’s pure smile and friendship with Yuuri
People uneasy over Sara and Michele’s sibling relationship.
Mira x Sara ship gains steam and sets sail.
“Hug zombie” - the term given to Yuuri’s hugging spree
Johnny Weir planned to watch YOI “one episode per day,” but failed and watched two episodes the first day. Then binged the rest within two more days and caught up in time for episode 10 on Wednesday.
Naked Victor on the front page of NBC due to Johnny’s tweets
Crunchyroll releases Katsudon Pirozhki recipe (Dec 7)
pre-Episode 10
“Something round and golden” -- gold medal, wedding rings, cock rings, onion rings, golden snitch
Kubo-sensei fanning the flames
we were losing hope for teasers until... our saviors, Animate, took over for posting them. Dengeki still posted the identical teaser pics on their site, but did so at a later hour.
Preview lines about Yuuri recalling the previous year’s nightmare banquet.
Translation confusion led to people thinking it was a “nightmare bucket” “nightmare baguette” (and other attempts to find the correct foreign word) until someone pointed out that figure skating competitions have banquets.
Theories about what happened at the banquet.
Episode 10
Rings
Yuuri buying one ring (with Victor buying the other) vs. Yuuri buying pair rings as a set
would later be confirmed in a magazine post-series that Yuuri bought both rings
Are they really engaged or not?
Best plot twist ever.
The ending changes everything we ever knew about this series
people analyzing all the interactions since episode 1
“Poor Victor” comments and tags appear
“Victor was pining all along!”
Victor seen as super patient and willing to let Yuuri drive the pace (because he never brings up the banquet in order to respect Yuuri’s shyness).
Victor flying to Japan with his dick out.
Victor had a crush on Yuuri since the beginning.
“Victor is a dork who would do anything for love” mentality sweeps away previous malaise.
fanfic and fanart explosion of dorky, loving Victor
This is when the loving!Victor image squashed any lingering remnants of evil!Victor
Eros parallel re-interpreted as Yuuri being the playboy and Victor being the woman seduced and left behind.
Victor is savage for making a program based on the banquet and thinking to skate it for a season.
Pole dancers comment that the moves in Yuri on Ice reference actual moves (Yuuri is pretty good and has great grip strength; a couple of Chris’ moves are incredibly hard)
Otayuri (Otabek x Yurio) becomes a pairing
Beach scene discussion - was Victor angry or not, and why?
Hype for Kubo-sensei revealing that the GPF would have the most realistic animation of all the episodes.
Animate posted late (only a few hours before airing), but Dengeki even later.
Episode 11
“Scoring system is broken!”
Yurio’s score is literally impossible using the current real-life ISU scoring system (he’s about 5 points too high)
Yuuri scored low despite low number of technical mistakes
J.J. given a higher score than should be allowed because of his huge errors.
Discussion on Victor looking out at the ice during Yurio’s SP (“what was he thinking?”), and discussion about his flashback and burden
Chris’ mystery man ( “Chris’ boyfriend”? “Who IS that guy???”)
Half the fandom dies with Yuuri’s last sentence; half the fandom trusts Kubo-sensei (and comforts the other half)
Evgenia posts a tweet trusting everything will be alright
People’s view of J.J. changes - some sympathy and “??? I never expected to actually care for this guy!”
It seems everyone pitches their predictions about who will be on the podium.
“Phichit’s hamsters predict the podium?” theory
pre-Episode 12
We give up on teasers because they’re so late. Animate releases them a few hours before the episode airs.
Oh!SkaTra!!! Yuri!!! on ICE Soundtrack released about a day before the final episode aired.
“Spoilers” (but not really, because we had the tracklist since episode 5). We confirm the last two songs are the exhibition skates. People avoid Tumblr until the episode airs because of the “spoiler threat.”
Episode 12
Breaking Tumblr, Crunchyroll, and Animate.
Crunchyroll released a statement on Twitter about YOI’s high traffic breaking it.
Tumblr crashed (traffic volume too high) right after the CR simulcast/subs came out around 4PM EST. It wasn’t fully fixed until several hours later.
Animate’s website crashed for the same reason as above.
“It wasn’t gay enough”
People feeling disappointed about the relationship between Yuuri and Victor because there was no second kiss or explicit “I love you.” People wanted something that could not be denied (wanted an “uncensored” kiss).
Others counter-argued that relationships can show deep love without needing an “I love you,” and point out how the relationship was built steadily throughout the series.
People feeling betrayed because Yuuri didn’t win gold.
“Otabek was robbed!” and “J.J. overscored!” complaints circulate
“I won’t kiss it unless it’s gold” prompted a legion of pictures/comics, and fics.
Gushing over the liberate use of ring flares
“History Makers” in the end credits - the extra “s” felt like an Easter egg to some.
Ice dance vs. Pairs - many fans mistake the final Duetto exhibition skate as Pairs when it’s actually based on an Ice Dance routine
How will Victor do both skating and coaching?
Will we get a Season 2? “See You Next Level” means a second season, right?
After the series, we saw Oh!SkaTra!!! and the DVD/BD volumes sell ridiculous amounts - easily placing in either 1st or 2nd place on Oricon’s charts for DVD, BD, CD, and CD digital release. The Blu-ray and DVD volumes continue to hold high sales. Magazines continue to be translated. Some ideas/meta are confirmed and others become defunct.
It was a wild ride from way back when YOI was only a website and PV. Every week brought new ideas, writings, meta, art, and discussions. It was to the point where some weeks you would get in-depth meta and polished art just hours after the episode aired. In fact, there was so much made that you could easily reblog hundreds of posts in a day for the more explosive episodes, and meta would either get hundreds of notes or be lost in the current of new stuff appearing every few minutes. At the rate that it’s still going with new campaigns, events, and merchandise, Yuri!!! on ICE will be active for quite some time.
