I've seen a lot of people say that Zutara would just work in the live action if they eliminated Aang's crush on Katara in the first couple seasons and NO. no no no no NO. I want Zutara to happen as much as the next person, but I think Aang's crush should stay intact. If they include the want vs need plot line introduced in "The Guru" in book 2, it could be an easy way to launch some much needed character development for Aang. Having him struggle with letting go of an unreciprocated crush at the beginning of book 3 might actually be a jumping off point for what Bryke tried to do with his arc in the final book, making him seem wiser, more mature, and assertive without coming off as a complete jerk like he did in the animated series.

on the point of including black people in the show (or any period show), a lot of the outrage can sometimes come across as performative to me. it's one thing to feel upset about how little screentime black characters get compared to white characters (a valid criticism, believe me, I Know! give me an hour and i could talk your ear off about how this constantly annoys me as a black person who's damned to enjoy period pieces), but it's another to Only get upset while not actually creating content for said black characters, Especially when fandom (not just hbo war, but in general) is famous for taking Extremely minor characters and creating entire worlds with them, to the point where you wouldn't know they're minor characters at all until you check out the source yourself. richard macon, alexander jefferson, and robert daniels each have only 20 or less posts about them (at the time of publishing this post). in my own fandom experience (within fandoms both big and small and old and new, whatever), i've seen more content (posts, art pieces, analyses, fics, etc) made for minor white characters in less than a mere week's time (it's not a competiton lol i'm just giving a perspective here). so idk. obviously, there's nothing anyone here can do about a show that's already been filmed and released. we got what we got. thas it. at least in the great wide world of fandom, you can actually do something about it, turning the big into small. there's precedent for that. otherwise it just feels like complaining for the sake of complaining

The Alan Scale cannot measure my anger toward Earn.
Thank goodness that everyone in the show is pissed off at her.
And thank goodness Lada has the bestest best friend.
He deserves to cry more than Earn!
This is such a tragedy. Lada and Eng should be together, but instead they are fighting . . .
over her
*takes off my glasses* I've seen enough

I think maybe my favorite thing about Doctor Slump is how the characters will sometimes react in a way you don't entirely understand and then later the show takes care to establish specific moments, hurts and situations that explain exactly why the character struggles with this pattern of behavior or this fear etc.
It's shows how intimately the writers understand these characters and it's why the mains feel so fleshed out and alive

The biggest and maybe only thing I would change about this adaptation is episode three. There’s several minutes spent on Lucy in a towel sneaking around to steal Annie’s source again, and I’d cut that altogether. We’ve seen her do this already, we know she’s got a track record and is borderline obsessed with Annie, so cut out her stealing the keys to steal the source again.
Instead, spend more time on the Screaming Staircase. Make it actually scream. You can leave the chanting in over top but that staircase was traumatic for everyone, not just Lucy, it took the whole team out of commission. Put the time into really hitting how impactful and psychically traumatizing that staircase was.
Then, later, when Lockwood’s telling Fairfax they don’t have the source with them have Lucy just pull it out again. George’s horrified “she stole it again” is explanation enough. You could even flashback to brief snippets of her pulling the keys out of Lockwood’s coat and grabbing the silver glass case if you want.
I’m not going to spend much more time on things I’d change because I am honestly so pleased but this was maybe the only thing I’d have liked to see different.

I love you 12 episode shows I love you 26 episodes shows from the 90s and early 2000s that still somehow bother to have monster of the week and filler, I love you five and three season shows that run exactly how long the story is supposed to be. I hate you Netflix making all shows short and canceling to get out of paying workers. I hate you HBO for selling all your stuff as a tax write off. I hate you reboots. I hate you “but it’s with their kids”. I hate you 24 season long shows that were meant to end in season six.
