Travellers, Other Side, and Arcadius, Sirens storylines could’ve been connected

A theory I posted a while ago on reddit and want to share here too.

While we can say what we want about S8, I wanted to share my thoughts and discuss them with you guys. It's been a while since I (re)watched anything past S4, so bear with me.

So Hell is Cade's dimension created by his severe emotional trauma in what is coined 'Hell.' It's been in existence longer than the Other Side. So before that, is it correct to assume that everyone who didn't have Peace went to Cade's dimension. And before him, it was, only one finding Peace? Or maybe something else next to it? (Lazy ass writing to introduce Hell and a equally badly written villain and even weaker motive)

When Qetsiyah created the Other Side, most Supernaturals went here after they died. I say most because Jenna didn't end up there after her death. She went to what is a version of 'Heaven' since she found Peace. Also, Lexi found Peace after the Other Side crumbled. So it seems that by default, no Supernaturals after its creation went to Hell.

Cade would've noticed something was off. He was collecting souls and could freely enter Limbo, and his Sirens were servants in the living world to punish or kill any doomed souls beforehand. Could it be that when his Sirens tried to kill Supernaturals for Cade 2000 years later, he realized another dimension like his or a force (the Anchor Amara) interfered with his need to collect the bad souls and damn them for an eternity? It wouldn't be far-fetched, I think. Cade wouldn't be able to do anything about it since it is another plane he couldn't reach or destroy to claim all those Supernatural creatures. Not until the Other Side began to crumble was he able to do what he did 2000 years before all souls (i’m ignoring him wanting Katherine that badly to hell instead of letting her pass to the Other Side… it was fanservice to me and gave the writers and opening to bring her back).

Putting aside the inconsistencies in writing and if you liked or disliked the later seasons, Cade could have been built up through the Travelers (the most boring storyline ever) and tied to a common goal: destroying the Other Side. It would've made Cade scarier and built him up some more instead of what we've gotten when he died, and it being revelead that Katherine was the one in charge and pulling the strings.

Cade feels he is owed all these bad souls in the Other Side, and the Travelers want to break their curse and destroy all the Magic/Witches except their bloodline. Cade could've, at one point in time, before the Bennett coven sealed Sybil, ordered her and her sister to see what was up the first moment he couldn't take in any Supernatural souls anymore. They find out a Witch (Qetsiyah) created the Other Side and even come across the existence of the force behind it (Amara being the anchor). It gets an adequately fleshed-out backstory about the Psychics, Sirens, heck, even the tiresome Travelers.... most of Cade's negotiations would be done through Sybil and Selene. This would be a powerful alliance and the balance restored for both these parties that had to deal with the consequences.

This is just my rant/take on how these three (bad) storylines could be done better and have some proper buildup around the characters (I hated it so much after Markos and the Travelers were introduced).

Sidenote: it would've been so cool to see what happened to all creatures when they died before Cade came into existence. We know about the concept of Peace when one dies. I love the mystery surrounding it, and they've briefly shown what it looks like in the Originals a few times in TVD when Elena, Damon, and Stefan died at the end of the season. It's their version of a paradise/Peace. Perhaps a similar concept of not finding Peace could've been mentioned or shown. Would that be Limbo or something like some forever space of nothingness? They did say the Other Side was a concept, but it was only for Supernaturals, not humans. Unfortunately, we haven't gotten any lore that would explain this concept. Maybe it is mentioned in Legacies, but I haven't watched the show, and I won't.

Current WIPs and Fic Concepts

I promised I would do this yesterday, and then I forgot!!! (I was very sleep deprived). Anyways, here are a bunch of the WIP premises that I have in my 'unfinished drafts' folder. Most have at least a few pages written for them, but I love them all! ☺️💕

- A Santa Clarita Diet AU (Jonsa) Takes place in sunny southern California, where a shitty dinner at a mediocre restaurant turns into a huge problem for Jon and Sansa when Sansa's heart stops beating. Although she seems fine, Jon is flabbergasted several days later as he watches his wife- who alphabetizes their pantry and refuses to let anyone wear shoes in the house- rip the throat out of one of the sleazy new partners at their law firm, eating half of him before anyone processes what's going on. Hilarity ensues as Sansa's inhibitions and filter disappear, Arya ropes an extremely confused Gendry into helping figure out what the hell is going on just because he moderates the zombie forum on reddit, and Jon tries to deal with the fact that the woman he loves more than anything is now a humanitarian. He really could use a drink. (This one is actually mostly complete, but i need to refine a few things- i really love it. It's as gory and irreverent as the show, so viewer discretion advised, but it's a BLAST to write).

- A Thor/MCU AU (Jonsa, Steve Rogers/Sansa)- Asgardian prince Aegon is banished to Midgard after one too many arrogant decisions, and is promptly hit by a van containing Dr. Sansa Stark, Dr. Barristan Selmy, and Margaery Tyrell- two astrophysicists studying wormholes and Sansa's best friend and pseudo-intern. Marg yells at him, he yells back, Sansa tases him, and Barristan didn't sign up for the kind of heavy lifting that getting a 200+ pound slab of muscle into the back of a van takes. And then Aegon's younger brother, Jon, shows up, in the middle of an identity crisis because, apparently, he's adopted. He wasn't intending to stay, but he's rather drawn to Dr. Stark and her brilliance, and against her better judgement, she starts to trust him, and maybe even like him. This story is in about three parts so far- the first is based on 'Thor' and the second on 'The Avengers' and are fully Jonsa, and the third started as a family bonding story between the Stark kids and Tony (Ned and Tony are second cousins, and Ned was really supportive of Tony in rehab without expecting anything in return), and accidentally turned into a Steve Rogers/Sansa Stark story, which is a pairing i am HERE for. A lot of this one is written, but it needs some fill in before publishing, although it's one of my favorites that i've written to go back and actually read.

- A Star Wars AU (Jonsa) where Sansa and Arya are Alderaanian princesses who are off planet when Alderaan is destroyed- Sansa as a senator and Arya as a pilot, both working for the rebellion, and jon is a smuggler who does not know how all of these people got on his ship and why two princesses are sassing him. His copilot, Tormund (yes he's a wookie), thinks it is hilarious. I started this one just the other day, and it's already thirty pages long, most of them involving Sansa and Arya sassing people. Dany is a leader in the rebellion, Roose Bolton is the emperor, and Barbrey Dustin is a disgruntled former jedi trying to live in peace on a remote planet until another Stark crashes into her life and harangues her into teaching again.

- A witches/magic AU (Jonsa) where the Starks run an apothecary and spellcasting supplies shop. Jon had been completely in the dark about magic before his mother confessed to being born into a family of witches. He finds himself traveling to her hometown, trying to understand her world more clearly, and what it means for him. On the way, he develops something of a crush on the red-headed shop clerk who brews the best headache potions in town. Featuring lots of magical shenanigans, this is one of my favorites in the folder :)

- A 24 hour diner AU (Jonsa) where Jon is a local mob boss, and Sansa works the late shift at Seaworth's diner to buy textbooks for the PhD she's working on in botany. Sansa's running from memories, and Jon has a soft spot for the red-headed waitress who always remembers how he likes his coffee.

- An East of the Sun, West of the Moon AU!!! (Jonsa) This is one of my fav fairy tales, and of course i couldn't resist Jon as a direwolf striking a deal with the starks!

- A Roomates AU (Jonsa)- Arya, Jon, Tormund, and Sam have been renting the same house together off Winterfell's campus for years- but when Sam moves in with his girlfriend, they need one more person on the lease. Sansa, about to relocate to Winterfell for grad school, finds out that her boyfriend has been cheating on her and that her housing plans have fallen through, all on the same day. Needless to say, she's a bit upset when she calls Arya to relay the news. There's a simple solution here, if Arya and Tormund can stop teasing Jon about his crush for five minutes. (any excuse to write tormund and arya roasting jon, tbh).

- A Fae AU (Jonsa)- When Sansa, a baker living in the city, washes her face in an enchanted spring on a camping trip, she gains the sight as a result. Suddenly able to see the fae underworld all around her is disorienting and terrifying. Sansa tries to conceal it- afraid of what might happen if the fae around her know that she can see them- but slips up, and catches the attention of Jon Snow- one of the lords of the unseelie court.

- A nuclear winter wasteland AU (Jonsa)- (?? I don't even know how to describe this premise, haha) where the Starks are living and running the Free Winterfell settlement in Siberia after a worldwide nuclear meltdown. Before the fallout, Sansa was one of the world's preeminent researchers in plant genetics and pathology, and works at the settlement to create newer, disease and radiation resistant crops to distribute for free to other settlements, aiming to break up the monopoly that Lannister Corp has on the market. Jon is a scavenger, searching throughout Siberia for his sister Rhae who disappeared several years previously. When he runs across Arya Starkovna, helping her fight off another band of radiation ravaged scavengers is just instinct- he doesn't think twice about it. In thanks, she brings him to the Winterfell settlement, where her brother Robb offers Jon sanctuary and resources, in exchange for serving as a bodyguard for Sansa when she travels to other settlements. Sansa is not particularly thrilled by this arrangement, but given that multiple parties seem to want her dead, she doesn't have much of a choice but to accept his company.

- A reincarnation AU (Jonsa)- of sorts. Robb is an archaeologist who finds a strange set of runes at a site up north, and immediately calls in Jon Snow- a historian and expert in said ancient language, as well as an old university friend of Robb's. When he arrives though, Robb shows him their most valuable finds- two mysterious ice blocks, with what appear to be perfectly preserved bodies from over a thousand years ago. No one could ever have imagined that either of them were still alive, but when the ice melts, revealing two very alive girls, the entire crew is instantly buried in NDAs, and given an assignment from the Westerosi government to figure out what the hell was going on. Sansa and Arya wake up, extremely confused about the world they live in, trying to adapt and mourning all that they've lost, even as the people around them wear familiar faces.

- Soulmates AU (Jonsa)- (Yes, another one, I love this dumb trope) Trauma surgeon and medical resident Sansa Stark is having a very bad day, and ends up meeting her soulmate during what she thinks is a mugging gone wrong. Fortunately, he’s not the one mugging her, just an intervening bystander, but she ends up slightly shot nonetheless. Sansa’s fretting about bleeding on the upholstery in his car, but Jon is a bit more worried about her injuries than the blood stains. He’s a bit confused when she threatens him if he takes her to a specific hospital, nearly has a nervous breakdown when she insists on doing her own triage, and is very charmed when she insists on ice cream after taking pain meds at the hospital. On Sansa’s part, she’s a little less concerned about being shot, and a bit more concerned about whatever weird first impression she’s making to her soulmate while high as a kite on pain pills. (this one just needs some tweaking to be postable- I'm not sure if it's going to be a oneshot or a series, but i love what I have already)

- A Demon/Archivist AU (Jonsa)- where Sansa works in the university's historical archives in Oldtown, and is learning to restore old texts with her fellow student and friend, Alleras (Trans Sarella is an amazing concept). When Joffrey Baratheon shows up with a pile of old books from his family's library to donate, Sansa is eager to get away from his sleaze, and accidentally takes one of the books home with her in her rush to leave. Unbeknownst to her, it's more than it appears, and when she leaves it open overnight, she accidentally summons forth Jon- an ancient, powerful, and extremely annoyed demon who is under a curse, and now hers to command. As Jon and Sansa try to get used to this new normal, the Lannisters (unaware that Joffrey had donated the tome) try desperately to find the book and it's owner, wanting Jon's power for themselves, and putting Sansa in considerable danger unless she can figure out how to break Jon's curse. Fortunately, she's a pretty good researcher, even if Jon is initially a bit of a grump. (This is based on a total wish-fulfillment mary-sue type premise for something I wrote when I was thirteen, and I revisited it and wanted to see what it would look like if i took it very seriously, and i am really enjoying it so far. It's a love letter to the terrible, heartfelt writing i was doing in middle school that created the foundations for my writing today, and so much fun).

The one that I am MOST excited about though:

- A Pacific Rim AU!!!! (Ned/Cat, Gendrya, Braime, Sansa/Jon Umber)-Twins Sansa and Robb Stark have always been completely in tune with each other, and when your parents are Jaeger pilots and your mother invented the neural handshake, what option is there but the Jaeger academy? Sansa studies to be an engineer, but ends up copiloting the Jaeger 'Winter Wolf' with her twin brother, after they lose Ned Stark to cancer. When Robb is ripped out of the conn-pod and killed by a kaiju while he's still connected to Sansa, she barely manages to kill the creature before stumbling back to shore, traumatized, grieving, and swearing that she'll never pilot again.

Unfortunately, the Kaiju don't stop just because Sansa does, and when the end of the world is imminent, Marshall Catelyn Stark orders both her daughter and former pilot Jaime Lannister (who lost his twin and copilot, Cersei, several years previously) back to Hong Kong for one final stand. Forced to face both her demons and an irate Arya, furious that Sansa had abandoned the rest of them after Robb's death, Sansa and Arya have to figure out how to pilot Winter Wolf together before the apocalypse comes for them all.

Featuring Marshall Catelyn Stark (commander of the Hong Kong Shatterdome, inventor of the neural handshake, former Jaeger pilot, and BAMF), Sansa x Jon Umber (Yes i know it's a rare pair but i've always kind of loved the idea of them, even though we know so little about him), Kaiju parts dealer and smuggler Petyr Baelish, bickering kaiju biologist Dany and theoretical mathematician Jon Snow, LOCCENT officer Theon, lots of snark, lots of angst and heartfelt conversations, and a weird friendship between snarky-grieving-asshole Jaime Lannister and kind-quiet-grieving Sansa Stark, who are the only two people in the world who know what it's like to lose a copilot and a twin in the drift.

I ain't reading that Reddit post (is there a helping of "why do people critique Edelgard when XYZ?!" in it?) but noshit things aren't 'okay' in Archanea. They aren't okay anywhere! in any FEverse! Even Kaga's games after he leaves IntSys have the same tonal endings! I've not gotten to the end of any FE game and thought "so glad it's all sunshine and roses now :)" when the series, as a whole, has been fairly consistent (until /cough)

That's why "tru peace" from a certain ending annoys me - because FE, as a series, has never been about "tru peace", but always about how to solve the current situation, and hope it won't go to hell in the next generation.

The Lords who are on the "Blue side" are on the Blue side precisely because they trust in "Humanity" and in the "People" to do what's right for the future, and they don't believe only their word and actions have to shape the world.

Maybe it's because I re-watched LotR recently, but FE always had, imo, this message of Hope. Yes things are going to suck, because humans, and the world, always change and there will always be periods where things suck, but the people will raise to challenge and restore peace.

Why, it's as if we're talking about a cycle where the mandate given to someone ends, to be gifted, instead, to another dynasty. So someone buying the "with me there won't be any poor people being crushed by strong people evah", imo, isn't buying in the series staple.

Kaga games went with this maxim : "For whatever madness lay in the hearts of gods… a darkness deeper still beats wild in the hearts of man…"

Elibe ends up with Roy having faith in humanity, and in a world where dragons and humans can coexist, even if, for now, there is still prejudice - but things can and will change.

Tellius ends with a certain Lord asking a goddess to have faith in humans, because even if they are stupid, they can learn and make up for their shortcomings.

It's only in a certain path from a certain game that we are supposed to buy the "Tru Peace" - as if there will never be any rebellion in the future because the narrator said so.

But well, maybe with future remakes some people will realise what the FE Series has always been preaching, and how this path is actually a neat deviation and, redshit be damned, a vilain route.

10 Tips for Surviving an Outrage-Fueled Internet as a Highly Sensitive Person

Like it or not, we’re all in a long-term relationship with the internet. Here’s how to make it a peaceful one.

While the internet can seem like a dream come true, it’s also a big, scary digital world, and most of us can’t afford to go completely off-the-grid to avoid it. On the one hand, I personally love doing research and exploring new ideas — and the internet is like an endless buffet for doing exactly that. It feeds my mind, and since I’m a journalist, I use it often when I’m hunting for new sources or digging up truths.

But as a highly sensitive person, the internet can also be… overwhelming. Exhausting, even. Highly sensitive people (HSPs) are the twenty percent of the population who process information very deeply — which makes us both insightful and empathetic, but also easily overstimulated. As an HSP myself, there are days when I want nothing more than to chuck my phone and computer into a river and run away to a cabin in the woods, where the WiFi signal won’t be strong enough to load Wikipedia or Gmail even if I hadn’t gotten rid of all my devices. 

Escaping the hustle and bustle of modernity might be a common daydream for HSPs, but it’s not a practical one. Most of us need to go online for work, to stay connected with loved ones, and do basic things like banking and grocery shopping. 

10 Ways I Survive the Internet as an HSP

1. Know where to find “feed-your-soul” content — and go to it regularly.

Sometimes, even with the best intentions, you can wind up feeling completely burnt out just by spending a few hours online. When that happens, I like to turn to my collection of  pick-me-ups. Sometimes, that’s visiting YouTube for inspirational videos, like the pep talk from Kid President (an oldie but goodie). Other times, I might look at the work of some of my favorite cartoonists, like Sarah Scribbles or XKCD. Similarly, everyone has different taste in art, so take some time to find work that feels like a warm blanket. Have this “comfort food” bookmarked or saved somewhere, whether on a playlist or in a folder, so you can quickly turn to it when the internet — especially news — is just too much to handle.

2. Make sure your music is working for you, too.

I love listening to music while I work, but sometimes even my favorite albums can feel overwhelming when combined with everything else that’s happening on my screen. When I need a little more mental space to process whatever I’m reading, I turn to nature sounds or white noise tracks. My favorite is the Spotify playlist “Birds in the Forest.” It’s incredibly soothing and helps me concentrate when my attention feels scattered. (You can also try this HSP playlist curated by a fellow highly sensitive person!)

3. Turn down the lights — or your screen’s brightness.

Since we HSPs are sensitive to any stimuli, that includes the level of light our eyes are taking in. Computer and phone screens are perpetually glowing beacons, and plenty of people have written about how that blue light can throw off our circadian rhythm before bed. But it can also be hard on your eyes to look at a bright screen with small font all day. 

If you need the internet for work, try using apps like QuickShade to further refine the brightness of your computer screen. And if at all possible, stop looking at screens at least half an hour before bedtime! But if you must, make sure your screens are in night mode. These days, a lot of devices have dark mode capabilities and it’ll take you just a few minutes to adjust them. If you’re an Android person, you can also download an app like Dark Mode, and if you’re more an Apple person, you can try an app like NeuralCam NightMode.

4. Limit time on social media (and avoid doom-scrolling)…

We’ve all been there: one minute you’re checking Twitter for the latest news updates or to find something interesting to read, and the next thing you know, it’s been half an hour and you’re feeling shaky with the deluge of information. And it’s not just Twitter that pulls us into this endless vortex: it can happen on other social media platforms, on Reddit, and even on news websites. Yes, you’ve been trapped into doom-scrolling. 

The internet — and especially social media — is designed to suck you in. Once you know that, you can plan strategies for protecting your time and energy. Set a timer whenever you go on social media and don’t let yourself stay there for longer than that time. Or, if your willpower isn’t strong enough, you can install browser extensions that block certain websites after you’ve been on them for too long — check out Limit for Google Chrome and FocusMe for an app that works across browsers and devices. 

5. …But when you do go social media, make it meaningful.

Of course, social media isn’t inherently a bad thing: It can be a great way to stay in touch with friends, learn about new job opportunities, or simply socialize when you aren’t leaving the house. To get the most out of social media, invest in real relationships — use WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger to ask friends about their day or share memes or GIFs. Or, curate your Twitter account so that it shows a variety of perspectives and voices that you’re interested in hearing. For myself, I look for specific hashtags so that I can easily follow scientists, writers, and people in the chronically ill community. It has made my Twitter scrolling a lot less unpleasant. 

6. Be intentional with how much you share.

We’ve all heard it before, but it is largely true: The internet is forever. And as much as we may want to assume people are acting with the best intentions, that’s just not true of everyone. “Mobs” form quickly, and just about anyone can end up being doxed or harassed. So be mindful of what you’re putting online. Share only as much of yourself as you are comfortable with strangers knowing. It can be a wonderful experience to have an intimate connection with someone you’ve never met in person, but make sure those conversations happen privately.

7. Understand your capacity for news media and set boundaries.

Similarly to setting boundaries in how much you reveal about your personal life, you also need to understand your mental and emotional capacity for news, be it sad, dark, or uplifting. Because HSPs feel everything so deeply, even an innocuous story about the things scientists still don’t understand about pregnancy can lead to overstimulation (yes, this has happened to me). Once our brains get revved up, it can be very hard to calm them down. 

To protect myself from being emotionally overwhelmed by bad news or overstimulated by some exciting bit of research, I try not to read any news after 5 p.m. I also limit how much I read about particularly dark subjects, the coronavirus pandemic being one prime example. I do want to be informed, but I stick to things like daily newsletters rather than reading every single piece of news I come across. 

8. Take breaks.

This sounds obvious, though it can be hard to put into practice. But no matter what you’re doing online, whether it’s for work or for fun, be sure to spend some time away from your screen: go on a walk, play with your pet, play a board game, simply sit and stretch — the options are endless. You just need to be sure that you have those options in place so you don’t end up spending hours mindlessly going from one tab to the next online.

9. Build “phone-free zones” in your life.

Smartphones are great in many ways, but they also mean you’re carrying a little computer with you wherever you go, which makes the temptation to hop online almost impossible to resist. At the park and see a cute dog? Post a picture to Instagram! Spending time with friends and you can’t remember the last movie some celebrity was in? Hop on Google! 

We’ve all done it, but that doesn’t mean we can’t break that permanent connection we seem to have with our phones. Create phone-free zones in your home and life. Maybe it’s a no-phones-in-the-bedroom rule, or no-phones-after-a-certain-time-of-night. Since the internet is built to make us reliant on it, we are the ones who have to set rules and boundaries for when it is allowed to engage us.

10. Acknowledge and embrace the internet’s limitations. 

In a lot of ways, the internet can be a sanctuary for HSPs: We are in control of the sites we visit, the time we spend on them, and the amount of information we absorb. It’s easy to think that if we curate our online experience perfectly, we’ll be in a safe bubble where we don’t have to deal with other people’s emotions. However…

That doesn’t mean being online is a substitute for life offline — we still need in-person experiences, whether it’s walking through a forest or having (socially distanced) dinner with friends. That’s just part of human psychology.

So it’s important to understand what the internet gives you, and what it doesn’t, as well as to understand how it can both help and harm you. The more you know about your relationship with the internet, the better you’ll be able to navigate it.

OKAY.....Here are my thoughts on Loki in Endgame. I need to rant!!!

Since these spoilers are from reddit by four people (Note: one of the accounts has been deleted) who have seen the movie i am going to consider them atleast 95% true. But i’m going to assume the ones about Loki are true ‘cause i don’t see anyone bothering to make up fake shit about him.

If anybody sees this and has seen the movie please confirm whether the spoilers are true.

This is mostly about Loki. It also a little bit about other characters (not too much). I need to let my thoughts out or i might die....so here we go..

I’M A MESS!! I’M TRYING TO PIECE TOGETHER LOKI’S TIMELINE AND I’M LOSING IT!!!!

According to these sources (Two account were justdeleted), Loki in the 2011 battle of New York instead of being taken back to Asgard by Thor, he escapes by using the Tesseract and takes it with him. (Fyi, present Thor doesn't know this. He actually wasn't there in the past battle of New York.). Because, of Loki, the present Avengers have to go back to a different timeline (year 1970) to get the Tesseract.

Which makes me wonder does Loki still have the Tesseract if in another past timeline the Avengers have taken it. Does it change what happened in The Avengers??

But if Loki does have the tesseract in the time line where he escaped....Knowing Loki he obviously isn't going to stick around on Earth. He most definitely escaped to another realm.

Also, the present Thor and Rocket go back to the Thor: the Dark World time period and were able to get the Reality Stone from Jane. And they got it while she was on Asgard. Svarthalheim was not visited.

In the present timeline, after everyone is back and peace is restored, Thor who's still chubby, makes Valkyrie Queen of New Asgard. While, He goes on a journey with the GOTG team in order to find more Asgardians and Gamora. The Infinity Stones are being taken back to their proper places by Steve.

What I'm trying to say is....

My predictions from 2018 to last month:

1. A different Loki exists after Endgame. Present Loki is dead.

3. Thor and Loki in the future don't acknowledge each other anymore. The era of "Thor and Loki cannot exist without the other" is over.

2. Thor the Dark World doesn't happen.

3. Loki never redeems himself.

Look I'm still trying to figure this out. In the past universe where Loki escapes to another realm, does Odin die? Does Hela try to take over Asgard? Does Frigga die? Does Loki visit home? He probably won't because he knows he's gonna get arrested.

How Ragnarok even works into this i don't know. Maybe it does happen in that other universe but Loki never shows up.

Is my predictions about different universes where in one Loki lived and in another he dies, actually exist now. One universe where he's redeemed but in another he's a villain. One Universe where the events of New York happens and in another it doesn’t.  One universe where the brothers actually somewhat reconcile and in another where they don't even know whether the other is even alive.

If this plot summary is true (and right now i’m pretty sure it’s true)... Then MCU and Chris Hemsworth really did it to separate Loki and Thor.

Tbh, i understand why they would do that considering the issues Chris has with Loki. So, now we are going to have Thor 4 where Thor comes back to Earth with other Asgardians (lady Sif most probably) and becomes King. I mean Thor will come back to Earth soon enough. He better! otherwise whats the point of his entire character development!. I don't know if Loki exists in this universe. Unless they somewhat captured him after he escapes in the Avengers and lock him up like in TDW. But if they manage that then that would mean he dies in Thanos hands all over again? So, does it mean he doesn’t exist in this post Endgame universe. Anyway, it would be incredibly stupid if Loki is recaptured after he’s escaped.

The Loki tv series says that Loki changes human History. How does he do that?Does he time travel? After he steals the Time stone or something. Is this an alternate universe where he lived and wrecks havoc! Or maybe the TV series summary is a lie and MCU is trying to think of what to do with Loki. 

Also, in that other timeline Loki has the Space Stone.

But wait we are told Steve puts the Stones back in their proper places! So does this mean back in their proper timeline. Then this just leads to no changes whatsoever??

Essentially an idea that... 

1. The Others aren’t pure evil & actually have a reason for rallying and coming South. They are the heroes of their story just as they appear to be the villains to us. 

2. The Starks have a long history with the Others and the Night’s Watch. Somehow their story is tied up in the Night’s King, the first Lord Commanders, The Kings of Winter, and the Kings Beyond the Wall. Their words “Winter is Coming” are derived from this connection, and may not just be a warning of hard times but also a brag of their own such as “Hear Me Roar” or “Growing Strong” 

3. Therefore, the Starks have a large role to play in the conflict with the Others, and that conflict will likely result in diplomacy. 

4. The ultimate resolution will be about restoring balance to the world. Right now, there are extremely long winters and extremely long summers. The seasons are out of whack, and there is some kind of ancient magical reason for this. 

5. Dany is Azor Ahai, and ultimately she will become dark!dany or more of a villain character. 

6. The ice and fire threats are the Others and the dragons/those of dragonblood. But there is also the R’hollo to consider as well as some type of ancient ice god/force. 

7. Jon is the song of ice and fire, and as such he will likely play a large role in negotiations with the Others and potentially Dany. 

8. The wall may have first been built by the children of the forest or the others and not men as it is told in stories. (Generally the legends may be exaggerated and untrue). The Night’s Watch may have been originally an allied Others and First Men group under the Night’s King (human and a Stark probably) and his queen (other). 

9. The Others reasons for rising and attacking may be that some form of the alliance or agreement was broken. It could be the return of Daenerys and dragon/magic, the widespread religion of R’hollo, Summerhall, Aegon’s conquest, or the long night’s return, etc. etc. 

This post and its collective comments were written 4 years ago, so we have much more of the show to add to these original theories. Of course, D&D may have strayed from what GRRM will do, but they know the ultimate ending. It’s safe to assume we are headed toward the general right path. 

There’s speculation that Jon as the balance between ice and fire will become the King at the Wall and take an Other as a bride. Some believe that Val from the books could be this bride or that Ygritte could be raised from the dead to become the bride. Either way, it seems likely if this kind of marriage alliance were endgame, then the bride to be would appear in the show before season 8. It’s also fair to point out that Jon’s marriage to any one - an Other, Dany, even Sansa, would be an imbalance of ice and fire. His blood is equally ice and fire, and any kind of child he would have with another woman would not share that same equalness. 

Some telling things have occurred in the show so far...

Melisandre interchanging the prince/princess who was promised with Azor Ahai 

R+L=J confirmed 

Bran returning to winterfell as the Three Eyed Raven 

The Night King killing a dragon & resurrecting it for his army

lots of hints at a dark!dany plot and “fire and blood” mentality 

building up Jon and Sansa’s relationship and specifically her ability to lead and be a queen/lady 

the remaining Starks returning and reuniting at Winterfell 

the Children of the Forest created the first Other from a First Man with dragon glass to help them in the war against the First Men (or that’s what they told/showed Bran) 

the Children of the Forest helped Bran and the Three-Eyed Raven, while the wights and Others attacked them 

Craster offers baby boys up as sacrifices to the Others and in return they allow him to live peacefully 

Jon becoming Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch by being elected by his men and then becoming King in the North at the request of the northern houses 

Jon believes they need the dragons to defeat the White Walkers 

There has been no attempt at peace or diplomacy 

The White Walkers attacked Hardhome a settlement North of the Wall 

The Night King can see Bran even when he wargs & he can touch him even though he’s the Three-Eyed Raven 

The Night King also seems to have a large interest in Jon 

The Night King and his officers do not seem to be able to burn instead they create frost/cold as they walk 

When a White Walker is killed, all the wights it created are killed as well 

R’hollo is seen as the Lord of Light and in many ways life as well as flames obviously but shadows too. There is another god who may contrast him: Death. These seem to be two popular religions in Essos. While the Seven are still most popular in Westeros (especially by the Andals), and only the First Men, Children of the Forest worship the old gods. 

So... if Jon and Dany have a baby... will it be sacrificed? This would be pretty dark and possibly hard to do believably bc like Jon wouldn’t just hand it over and also why would it be near the war? 

If there is to a marriage alliance, it might make the most sense to join ice and fire - the Night King and Dany. Or to go with the old legends where a Stark married an Other. It may be Sansa who is married off to the Night King. It could also very well be that Jon ends up marrying an Other and becoming the King on the Wall, which would seem fitting. Again, though, this wouldn’t bring a sense of balance in my opinion. I don’t see Dany making it out of season 8 alive, and if she does, I see it as some sort of alliance like this one. 

Perhaps there could also be an ending where Dany is defeated after she probably backs out on the deal with Jon and goes to take down Cersei. I imagine she would burn the Red Keep to the ground and at some point the Iron Throne itself would melt. (Although I always liked the idea of Sansa or Jaime ultimately taking Cersei down...) A deal is made with the Others, and they retreat. A Stark rules in Winterfell as King in the North/The King of Winter, and perhaps the Night’s Watch is abandoned or changed entirely. If it was part of the old treaty, it obviously ended up backfiring. (Also, in this scenario perhaps Sansa and Jon can be together because tbh that’s what I truly want). Maybe there is independence and Westeros becomes Seven Kingdoms who work together again, and this may be led by Tyrion who is a great politician but not a true leader or King of all Seven realms. 

I think that Arya’s fate is the only Stark I am truly worried about... if Jon dies, I know it will be at the pinnacle hero moment which will ultimately make it worth it. He will have died/sacrificed himself because he’s the only one who could do it or something like that. Similarly, if Sansa were to die or be married off to an Other or something similar, I feel it would be her duty and in some way so befitting of a queen to sacrifice for her people. Arya on the other hand, her death would have less plot meaning. I think in general her arc has the least amount of plot meaning and endgame potential, so I worry she will die in battle. I’m sure it would be a lovely scene, but it wouldn’t probably have lasting impacts the same way Jon or Sansa’s (or also Dany’s) would. Bran I don’t think will die because he is the Three-Eyed Raven UNLESS it is important that the Three-Eyed Raven die in order to defeat the Night King/come to an agreement/etc. We still don’t know the full extent of his powers or his purpose yet, so a lot is up in the air for Bran. We just know he’s important. 

I want to add quickly that Melisandre said she has to die in this strange country. I wonder if perhaps there is some of agreement/coupling or something that she as a Red Priestess will be involved in. She obviously still has a part to play, and seeing as I imagine that the second she arrives she’ll be marked for death, she will likely show up at a very pivotal moment. I don’t imagine her just popping in to give Jon some advice at a vision in the flames. It will be more than that and likely it will be magical. 

The teaser of the map where ice and fire meet and almost form some kind of wall or mountain... it has always made me think that perhaps a new wall is formed at the end of this to replace the current wall?

Why Rey is a Palpatine

SPOILER WARNING! Some of these reflections are based on possible spoilers I have read and are also a good shot at speculation. 

I think there are many elements that make this theory interesting, not only for the storyline but for the future of the Sequel Trilogy, and why it should end with episode IX, so here it goes : After searching the internet for two years, reading and analyzing very different types of theories, speculations and reddit stuff, I am coming to the conclusion that Rey comes from the Palpatine line. She would then be his grand-daughter and her parents are going to come from the dark side, I place my bet on stormtroopers. 

1) On a storyboard level, you have to look macro at the whole three trilogies. They is going to be a mirror effect.

The PT was about a light Skywalker falling to the Dark Side because of love, and because of the manipulations of a Palpatine.

The ST is about a dark Skywalker being redeemed to the Light thanks to the love of a Palpatine. (by love, i mean not necessarily romantic)

Together in the PT : they introduce mayhem to the galaxy

Together in the ST : they restore peace in the galaxy (final episode)

Why do I think this? It was Lucas’s first idea that the ST should be a mirror of the PT, so maybe the kept the general idea. It also ties the three trilogies together in an interesting fashion. 

2) We then have mirroring effects and parallels of ST with the PT/ Kylo and Rey. Let’s pay attention to symbolism. 

Kylo Ren/Ben Solo, the Skywalker of the trilogy. Comes from the Light, falls to the Dark Side. He is first introduced with a very Darth Vaderesque look. He starts where Vader finishes : brutal, murderous, and he wears a mask that also distorts his voice. This is the reverse of Anakin which we see first as an innocent child, who is a slave, but is Light. 

Rey, the Palpatine of the trilogy, comes from Darkness but starts as a reverse of Sheev : an innocent and beautiful person. She is the Light. She wears a whitish costume when she is first introduced. 

Anakin Skywalker and Sheev Palpatine are both the strongest force wielders in the PT. Kylo Ren and Rey are the strongest RAW powah™ in the ST. (Even Luke is scared shitless.)

They are set as equals, incarnations of two opposite principles (ying/yang)

3)  They will meet in the middle. 

In order to restore peace, they necessarily need to meet in the middle, as they are set as opponents in the beginning. This is why I think they share so much : loneliness, a feeling of longing, a feeling a abandonment, a sense that they are looking for their own destiny. Both need each other in order to find themselves but the other will also trigger their own opposite side: 

Rey could go further down the dark side giving in to anger, her sense of abandonment but also passion. Passion can be a very destructive feeling. We already see her with anger in TFA when she beats Kylo. That will be full fledged in TLJ. Hate/Passion go together...

Kylo can go towards his light side giving in to his compassion for her. Kylo is said to be the incarnation of both principles, and his light side bubbles up all the time. He has a soft spot for Rey, and offers to teach her. 

This leads me to better understand how and why they have to become grayish. 

4) Rey in spanish means KING (come on, is that totally casual?) It’s more understandable if we see she is the heir to the throne of the Empire. (Princess rey *cough* prince Kylo *cough*)

If indeed Rey turns out to be a Palpatine, I am pretty sure that the trilogy will end on their union, whatever that is (romantic, or not), and restore peace in the galaxy, going beyond Light and Darkness. This is why Reylo is so important in the end. It doesn’t matter if it’s romantic or not. It’s their union and their symbolic importance for the galaxy that matters. 

Episode 7 : Ennemies

Episode 8 : They meet in the middle. Darkness rises and light to meet it.

Episode 9 : Friends (lovers, friends, whatever, but unified for the greater good!) Consolidation of Grey. 

(If they do take the trilogy on a romantic level it’s going to be a heck of a soap opera!!)

And Finally 

5) Sheev Palpatine thought Jakku was a special place. He even built a laboratory there in the Aftermath series. And, of course, who shows up specifically on THIS planet?

The Padmé YA Novel

”Really? A Padme novel? LOL. " responses on reddit are such supreme fucking bullshit. 

Padmé might not have been the most well executed character in the films -and let's be fair, I don't think any prequel original character can lay claim to that title- but the fact that such an important character in the saga is so underexplored makes her a perfect candidate for further storytelling in any medium.  

As the wife to Vader, she helped found the rebellion he spent over two decades trying to crush. She watched her life's work collapse in front of her eyes as Palpatine, a man terrified of death, enforced a dictatorship. In her own death Padmé gave her greatest gifts to the galaxy: two children who inheritied her spirit and democratic values and used those to restore peace. Padmé's legacy is what brought down the empire. The democratically elected child brought down the old man's evil dictatorship. She is as thematically important to Star Wars as her husband.

Padmé is far from perfect and makes some questionable choices regarding Anakin, but any further material can only help us to understand more about why she made those choices.

Maybe more than one novel please? :)

Weekly Update

Not much to report on the personal front, and that feels like a good thing.

After a couple of long weeks, a quiet one feels like a blessing. I’ve been feeling OK. Still not drinking, still getting after my workouts, still meditating and going the therapy. La de da.

My household came out of testing covid free. With a clean test came some small returns to normalcy- coffee runs and carryout pizza- and of course, gym visits. As such, felt more chill and at peace with these small semblances of normal having returned.

I spent most of my time engaged in quietly productive projects. 

My screenplay inches toward 200 pages, and I finally started the next chapter. Writing has understandably taken a backseat the past couple weeks, so getting back into it was a good feeling.

I’ve been prepping a new campaign for my DND group, using the Saltmarsh modules. It involves no shortage of reading, but I’m looking forward to bringing the modules to life for my players.

And of course, there’s no shortage of small miscellaneous projects- classic wrestling watch-throughs, unfinished lego projects, learning more about Spriteclub and so forth. Too much to devote space to here. Needless to say, I’m in an emotionally productive moment of my life and I’m gonna ride the wave as long as it’ll carry me.

Maybe we’ll resume the string of Serious Topics next week. But for this week, I’m good with just saying “hey, the week’s quiet, I’m feeling good, and life is very much OK”.

Video Games

Endless Space 2 (PC)

After 240 turns with this massive, turn-based 4X, I finally wrapped up my run with the Riftborn. By the end, I had forged a powerhouse empire thoroughly based on high production scores and a small but impossibly powerful military.

I ruled swaths of planets throughout 3 major constellations and finished the game with the highest score and an economic victory with the rest of my alliance.

I’m always surprised by how much each run of Endless Space 2 teaches me. I’ve been playing this game since launch and I’m still nearly overwhelmed every game by the sheer amount of gameplay and management that’s baked in. At several points every game, I will have to take a break to scour youtube and reddit for explanations and strategies of elements the game did not take time to explain. 

I’ve grown to relish the challenge, but recognize it’s not for everyone. I can’t even begin to guess where I’d start with teaching a newcomer. It brings to mind my feelings as I try to learn Stellaris, another 4X I’m convinced I’ll never come around on.

Yakuza 0 (XBONE)

I woke up this morning and put in a couple of hours with Yakuza 0 over my morning coffee. I figured I’d knock out some more of the story.

Instead, I stumbled on a cabaret club and discovered a new mini-game centered on club management. Hours later, I’m still managing my cabaret club, making money and overtaking rival clubs. I shake my head in surprise and wonder- of the many things Yakuza 0 already is, I didn’t expect it also to be a compelling management sim.

And that’s really the charm of this game- a charm that you won’t pick up on if you just spend a half hour with it. If you give Yakuza 0 time to open up, it becomes more than a brawler RPG. From impromptu games of Space Harrier to rhythm mini-games to fishing to parlor and casino games, Yakuza 0 is stuffed to the brim with carefully crafted small experiences that will delight and surprise you. 

It’s fair to say that on any given play, you’ll never know just what you might walk into- though at the end of the day, it’s still safe to say it’ll likely be resolved with a well-placed fist. There’s some charm to that, too.

Ninja Masters (NEOGEO ARCADE STICK PRO)

I’ve been working through the fighting games included on my NeoGeo Arcade Stick Pro. Most of them are good, but occasionally I’ll stumble into one that’s really my jam. Ninja Masters was one such surprise.

Basically, a 2D fighting game with an interesting, well-animated cast of warriors who swap between fist fighting and special weapons. Deciding when and how to deploy these styles is the difference between success and failure. The hits feel good, the speed a bit slower than your average King of Fighters game, and the characters feel unique and interesting. Think Samurai Shodown but...bloodier? 

If you happen to see it floating around on consoles, definitely give it a look. I didn’t have too much trouble stringing some combos together and winning some fights (albeit on easy, but still). NeoGeo fans I’ve talked to seem to regard it positively, as well. 

Excited to continue my journey with the Arcade Stick. I’ve already experienced some fun gems :)

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (XBONE)

EA dropped a huge number of games on Game Pass last week, and Fallen Order was at the top of the list. Curious, I went ahead and gave it a download. What did I have to lose?

Disclosure: I don’t really care about Star Wars. 

Which isn’t to say I never liked Star Wars. Quite the opposite, actually!

I was a huge fan as a kid. As a teen and in my early 20s I was a repository for EU lore and I ran a fairly intense Star Wars Saga Edition tabletop game. I’ve watched all 6 the OT and prequels in a row in one sitting. Like it or not, Star Wars is written into my creative DNA just as surely as any religion I grew up in.

However, when the new trilogy came about, I took a look at it and the direction Disney was taking everything and said “eh, this isn’t really for me anymore”. I didn’t have any serious qualms or disagreements, it’s just that none of it sparked my enthusiasm in the way the old stuff did.

 I could go on, but that’s a big enough subject for its own article. Suffice to say I consider Star Wars a creative ex of mine. I wish it well. I hope it moves on to do great things. But for the most part, it’s gonna do it without me. No respect lost for people who dig it- everyone should love what they love, and that’s that.

So. If a Star Wars game catches my eye, it’s cuz the gameplay itself looks interesting, not ‘cuz of the attached IP.

I’ve never played a Souls-like game before. The whole churn of spasm-inducing combat challenges, constant deaths and overwhelmingly dark worlds just never felt terribly inviting for a player like me who has always valued a slow and steady experience over one that relies on constant and certain reflexes. My experience with watching these types of games being played often triggers a horrible recall of my spending my youth playing games like Ninja Gaiden Black that seemed designed with the intent to frustrate and anger me, rather than ensure I have any fun.

Some people view that time of gaming as a problem to be solved and take pride in sharpening their reflexes against the carefully patterned game AI. Failure, to them, is an opportunity to learn. More power to them. Seriously, I respect that resolve. But I don’t have it. Never really have. So when I picked up Fallen Order, I expected to stall out on it pretty quick.

And honestly, I kinda have. But- BUT- I didn’t stall out as quickly as I thought I would. 

I’m not going to bother recapping the story, ‘cuz frankly, I don’t think it’s very important. You’re a jedi, hiding out from the Empire. You run into some other resistance types who tell you that you gotta save the galaxy, and you go from planet to planet killing wildlife and the occasional stormtrooper as you restore your connection to the force. That’s...pretty much all you need to know. People more plugged in might get more out of it than that.

My interest is with the gameplay- which I really,  really enjoyed. So much so that I actually ended up spending 2 hours with this game from the get-go. As someone who increasingly has trouble settling on games for more than a half-hour (there’s just so many to get to!) this is a pretty big success. And more importantly- I kept coming back to it! 

I’m kinda stalled out as it stands right now. I’ve completed 3 planets and killed no small number of monsters and stormtroopers. I’m not the ideal audience for this kind of game- I don’t read the lore and I zone out during the cutscenes- so the plot isn’t really carrying me forward, and I’m at a point where I’m being asked to backtrack to places I’ve already been to find loot and uncover more secrets (maybe some would call this a Metroidvania? who even knows anymore).

Will I finish Fallen Order? Maybe! The combat is fun! It’s a very pretty game to look at and the environments are fun to hop and run through. The enemies to point haven’t been very compelling, but I’m sure that as your character gets stronger you’ll encounter bigger and more interesting foes.

There were other games too, but nothing I spent time with long enough to really write about...

I spent some time with VRChat on the Oculus Quest 2 the past couple of nights, trying the fan-made Among Us world as well as a few smaller worlds. It was exactly what it’s been every other night I’ve jumped in- unmitigated and mostly male-centric chaos. However, I was treated to the delightful experience of watching 14 strangers attempt to run a virtual McDonalds like a real McDonalds. It was a surreal experience that left me laughing out loud. People can be such wonderful dweebs sometimes.

I’ve still been putting in time with Pokemon Shield. I’ve been hanging out in the Wild Areas trolling for pokemon I haven’t caught yet. I’m up to 224 right now. It’s good for 15-30 minutes at the end of the night.

But aside from these experiences, my gaming time has been more limited than usual. I’m getting more time in reading now that my kotatsu is fully assembled! 

For those not in the know- a kotatsu is a table with a heating device attached. You run a quilt or blanket underneath the tabletop and it traps the heat beneath the table. You then sit at the table- using either a floor cushion or padded mattress- called a futon- and it keeps your legs warm! It’s pretty great.

If people are interested, I can share more about the setup I went with for my kotatsu. Mine could reasonably accommodate 2 people with plenty of room for books and crafts on the tabletop. If you’re looking for a chill, screen-free centerpiece for a room- might be worth giving a kotatsu a shot!

i’ve kind of... run into a problem going through my old Bastion fic drafts. There’s a kind of strain of (often sexualised) exoticism and naivete that I’ve captured with Zia, or at least in how Rucks perceives Zia, and in how Zia and Zulf perceive her in her relationships with Rucks and The Kid. And, uh, I think this is logical and in character for the situation. Zia is in a position of absurd ignorance in the game itself - having been neglected by her peers and her father, knowing neither the language nor culture of her people. She seems to treat Rucks and The Kid and the destroyed world with a kind of warmth and wonder that i would expect of someone who has in their life been so ostracised and bullied and ignored that they’re willing to take being merely exoticised or condescended to, if it means being liked and loved and listened to every so often. i think it’s entirely likely that Zia would enjoy the attention she got, regardless of the potentially racially charged reasons behind that attention. And i can see why this might bother Zulf far more than her, as well as how Zulf attempting to stop it might feed more in an attempt to control Zia, who he might feel some ownership towards via the intersection of her womanhood and their shared ethnicity, rather than anything legitimate.

And i think that these are interesting themes, and ones i was drawn to organically, but i’m not sure i like the only answers that can come out of this given the scenario the characters find themselves in at the end of the story. Caelondia is gone. Rome has fallen. The questions about imperialism and xenophobia that the narrative brings up are essentially a moot point by the ending in the context of the story itself. There are four survivors - Ura and Cael don’t mean anything in the context of four people. It means something in the context of the real world that we live in, of course, but there is no better choice that the characters in Bastion itself can make than to bury and ignore a strain of racism that existed in a now destroyed society, the memories of which will die with them.

i wrote another part of something where Zulf and Rucks are forced to work together to navigate the Bastion. Rucks wants The Kid to do it, but The Kid isn’t at all educated or scientifically inclined, and neither is Zia, so he sets Zulf up to do it instead. This is a job that needs to get done for their survival, and there are four people, only two of whom can do it. So of course Zulf and Rucks must put aside their differences. But... should they in the context of our real world. Should somebody be forced to work and make peace with somebody who was involved in creating the technology that was going to mean the mass murder and genocide of their people. Um, i hope the answer is obvious to you: no, of course not.

and, i’m not sure, i don’t really feel at odds writing things for funsies that i feel would be morally wrong in real life circumstances. but it ties back into some issues i kind of have after having gone on various gaming sites and forums and read people’s discussion about the characters. I’ve seen a lot of people kind of generally excuse Rucks from blame. ‘he was working on making the Bastion, it’s Venn that created the nuke that caused the Calamity.’ Listen. Rucks damn well knows what the fuck was going on with the Calamity. Yeah, maybe he wasn’t directly on the branch of the engineering team that created the tech. But he worked for the Mancers, he knew it was happening, he condoned and sanctioned it - to say the very least. The fact that he recreates the technology behind the Calamity and gives you the Calamity Cannon should speak volumes. As does the fact that he knows so much and takes pains to conceal the truth from The Kid and Zulf until his hand is forced by Venn’s notebook and the Ura attack. As does the fact that he feels so weighed down by guilt and regret. As does the fact that we see this guilt and regret, not in the context where he knows about the coming Calamity and makes efforts to prevent it, but in the context of the Calamity having gone horribly wrong and blowing up his own home instead of the intended target - the Ura, who he still widely speaks of in the tone of homogeneous inhumanity. I mean, I like Rucks. He’s very charming and amiable, and has a sexy ass voice, oc. But, to be frank, that’s true of a lot of racists, and I have a hard time understanding how anyone could get to the end of the game and think he wasn’t racist, and wasn’t racist in such a way that supported and resulted in genocide.

Which brings me to the startling few people that have loudly and proudly said they left Zulf behind on their first playthrough, and that he deserved it after having betrayed you when... you’re working for Rucks, and Rucks betrayed him first. i mean, if i were The Kid himself, and i were in the middle of a life and death situation where Zulf had personally hurt me and rescuing him was at a great risk to myself, i don’t think anyone could be blamed for leaving him behind. but as a gamer sitting comfortably in my chair, i think a lack of sympathy for Zulf is kind of indicative of casually buying into a narrative (Rucks’s narrative) that excuses racism and imperialism and the rights of marginalised peoples to be fucking upset about those things.

i mean, i think even if you /do/ choose to save Zulf, it’s easy to do so just for the emotional catharsis. There is no risk to choosing to do otherwise in the game itself. on the contrary, it rewards you with extra content for having saved Zulf. and I think if you choose the Evacuation ending, it’s easy to be swayed in that direction by the sudden and contrasting weight given to Zia’s opinion and voice, previously unheard up to that point. i don’t think you have to critically disagree with the ideological basis for Rucks’s arguments - that Zulf’s anger as an Ura is misplaced, or that Caelondia (even with all its genocidal tendencies) is a society worth restoring - to act against them at the end of the game. but... i do think you have to critically agree with these ideas to angrily advocate for not saving Zulf. so i’m sorry for taking this game too seriously, but it does effect my image of real ppl on reddit or something.

So in the course of my TOR-related wanderings, I stumbled across this updated codex entry for Jace Malcom, ostensibly mined from the PTS (spoilers, sweetie!):

While this is subject to revision before the next chapters go live, I still find a few things about this interesting. First, most of the geeks within my guild had no idea who Theron’s dad was. Then again, most had not read Lost Suns or Annihilation, where it was blatantly spelled out. So the addition regarding his relationship with Satele and his relation to Theron will likely clarify things for a lot of people. Second, that they include this in the expanded codex also suggests that his relationship with Theron is touched on in the cut scenes, as the chapters unfold. According to Annihilation, the two have settled into a tentative friendship, if not a true father-son relationship. This makes me wonder how that will be impacted with the decisions required in the upcoming chapters.  Third, this little snippet confirms a few things I’ve had bouncing around as headcanon for quite some time -- namely that he saw the threat that Zakuul represented, but Saresh proved to be a roadblock of the highest order. That he is “Acting Supreme Commander,” also might indicate another little headcanon nugget of mine... mainly that he resigned in protest, and Saresh replaced him with one of her cronies, willing to do her dirty work. He then worked behind the scenes to build consensus and take her down. (Note: In our RP, this has been her own sister -- entertaining as all Hells when the Emrys clan got drafted for the in-fighting!) The quote “Republic would stop at nothing to reclaim its lost glory and restore peace to the galaxy” is still more ominous than I’d like to see out of this chapter, especially when it appears my Outlander (Annya), will be forced to choose between her newest BFF, Acina, and her FIL, Jace. Given their previous behavior -- and the LS Alliance’s role as regent/keeper of the balance -- I don’t see why there isn’t a middle ground, where the Alliance fights to keep the tech out of the hands of both sides. That makes so much more sense to me in the current story. But then, BW has done a lot of inexplicable things with the KotFE/KotET story that I don’t agree with. Why should this be any different? EDIT: Found this on the reddit datamining thread: “Theron and his father are NOT on good terms - Malcom considers his son a traitor.” Not at all surprising, given Jace’s almost obsessive loyalty to the Republic, and Satele’s concerns years ago -- she was afraid of losing him to the Dark, given his hatred of the Empire and (what she saw as) obsession with beating them. Makes me think, too, that maybe Theron’s on a more even keel with his mother, given her assistance to the (romanced) Outlander and also now that things with Jace have tipped. Could also lead to more conflict between Jace and Satele, though. =\

Kandrona Dependance (Ex): Yeerks do not require normal sustenance, how ever they must absorb Kandrona radiation from their native star (or suitable artificial source), this radiation must be filtered through a Yeerk Pool (a liquid substance with a similar viscosity and color to syrup), If a Yeerk does not spend at least 1 hour in a Yeerk pool every 72 hours they will begin tosuffer the normal effects of starvation and eventually die.  A dead Yeerk will be expelled if currently possessing a host.

Abnormal Weakness (Ex):  Maple or Ginger Instant Oatmeal can some how simulate the effects of Kandrona radiation when a Yeerk is possessing a host, however, consuming Plain Instant oatmeal comes with a High addiction chance, and prolonged consumption will cause the Yeerk to permanently fuse with the host's brain, dealing 2d6 points of Intelligence drain to the Yeerk.

Host (Su): If it succeeds at a melee touch attack roll against a restrained or willing living creature at least one size category larger than the Yeerk (and with a minimum Intelligence of 2), it can enter the creature’s body through an exposed orifice (usually the ears). The target gets a Will save (DC 10 + Yeerk's Hit Dice + its Charisma modifier) to keep the Yeerk from entering and taking control of its body. If the save fails or the potential host chooses to willingly fail the save, the Yeerk seizes control of the creature’s body. A remove curse spell can expel a Yeerk from a creature’s body, but the caster must succeed at a level check (1d20 + caster level) or the spell fails (DC 10 + Yeerk's Hit Dice + its Charisma modifier). If the host drops to 0 or fewer hit points, the Yeer inside will typically “emerge” from the host ears, and attempt to flee if possible. While possessing a creature, Yeerks cannot be physically attacked directly, however they are still subject to effects such as falling damage and some FX effects.  If a Yeerk takes a non-sentient (Int 2) Host, it must make a Will save each day it remains in the host or suffer 1d4 points of temporary cha damage, if the Yeerks Cha is reduced to 0 it is expelled from the host, the Charisma damage will only restore at the normal rate if it takes a sentient host.

Combined Challenge Rating: The Challenge Rating of a Yeerk with a host is equal to the host’s Challenge Rating +1.

Host Protection (Ex): An attached Yeerk uses its host’s base saving throw bonuses if they’re better than its own. Effects that target Outsiders can’t affect a Yeerk possessing a non-outsider host.

Immunities: Yeerks are immune to mind-influencing effects. This ability is conferred upon the puppeteer’s host as well.

Resistance to Massive Damage(Ex): Like Vermin Yeerk gain a +5 species bonus on Fortitude saves to negate the effects of massive damage. This ability does not benefit the host.

Shared abilities: The Yeerk retains its skills and feats when it takes a host (Except Hide and Swim), and also has access to all  Skills, Feats, Special Qualities and Talents available to the host.  If both the Yeerk and Host share a skill, the Yeerk may use which ever skill has the higher value with a +2 circumstance bonus.

Magical Beast (Ex): Vanarx have all traits common to magical beast.

Darkvision: Vanarx have Darkvision out to a range of 60ft

Scent (Ex): This ability allows a Vanarx to detect approaching enemies, sniff out hidden foes, and track by sense of smell.  It can also identify a Yeerk controller within 30ft.

Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, a Vanarx must hit an opponent of its size or smaller with both claw attacks. If it gets a hold, it may initiate a grapple attempt as a free action. If the grapple check succeeds it will attempt to draw the Yeerk out of a target on the next round

Feed (Su): A Vanarx that begins the turn with a grappled Yeerk controller, it may attempt to draw out the Yeerk and devour it as a full round action.  The Vanarx makes a Grapple check opposed by the Yeerk's Will save, if the save fails, the Yeerk is drawn out and consumed by the Vanarx, if the Will save succeeds the Yerk may make a grapple attempt, on a success break free, on a failure, they are still grappled and the Vanarx can attempt to draw out the Yeerk again on the next round.

Plant Type: Iskoorts have all traits common to plants.

Low-light vision (Ex): Iskoort can see twice as far as humans in poor light conditions

Kandrona Dependance (Ex): Like their probable Yeerk cousins, every 72 hours a Iskoort must seperate into its component Isk and Yoort parts so that the Yoort may absorb Kandrona radiation, while separated the Isk loses access to all skills and feats and its mental abilities change to (Int---, Wis11, Cha1), While outside of its assigned Isk, a Yoort is statistically identical to a Yeerk.  If prevented from absorbing Kandrona radiation for more than 72 hours, a Yoort will begin starving and eventually die, if a Isk remains separated from a Yoort for more than 24 hours it will suffer 1 point of Con damage every hour until it is re connected or reduced to 0 Con (at which point it dies).
