Part 8.5! Actually talking about my thoughts on Kenshi losing his eyes and how I think it gets a little oversimplified!

I think there’s kind of a big misconception that Kenshi losing his eyes was some big sacrifice he made for Johnny and that’s why that scene is so important in their relationship but I just ,,,, don’t think that’s the case…. Kenshi couldn’t have possibly known that Mileena was going to stab his eyes because everything in that scene happens so quickly- not even Mileena knows she’s gonna do it until she’s literally doing it. Kenshi approaches Mileena to assure her she’s safe since they intervened and didn’t let Shang Tsung use the needle (an antidote, but Kenshi is under the impression it was to infect her) on her, Mileena then is visibly upset and the Tarkat begins to take over her mind and body. Kenshi then calls Johnny over for backup while Kung Lao watches Shang Tsung/Rain/Tanya. In this moment, Kenshi is worried about the mission and Johnny is “worried about us [Johnny/Kenshi/Kung Lao].” The two basically go back and forth between saving each other from Mileena multiple times, just buying time until they can figure out an actual plan or until Mileena tired herself out. When Kenshi grabs Mileena off of Johnny he isn’t thinking to himself ‘alright! Here’s my sacrifice! To save Johnny I’m gonna let Mileena rip my fuckin eyes out!’ He’s more likely thinking something along the lines of ‘im not going to let Mileena hurt Johnny despite my distaste for him- nobody deserves to die by getting eaten alive [as that was what Mileena was attempting.]’ IMO, this is more telling of Kenshis character than it is his specific relationship with Johnny- he’d do this for just about anybody. BUT! This is where I believe it starts becoming more relevant to their relationship than it is just Kenshis character development alone. Johnnys reaction- albeit justified given it’s not every day you see somebody’s eyes stabbed out of their face- is notably more disturbed than Kung Lao’s. Similarly, he’s having a moment of ‘God I may not get along with this person, but what a horrible thing to experience’ as well as ‘that could’ve been ME’ and ‘if it has to be between him and me, it SHOULD’VE been me.’ Johnnys been an asshole to Kenshi quite a bit at this point, even if he makes efforts in between him being a dick to reach a hand out to Kenshi. If anyone deserved this life changing injury it was the guy who used somebody’s horribly traumatic family history against them just to get a rise out of him. The amount of instant guilt he feels is enough of a final push for him towards maturity and selflessness (particularly in regard to Kenshi). It’s at this point that the both of them just tear down every wall that they’ve built in between each other almost instantaneously and simultaneously. And it’s just so much more special than ‘oh no Johnny!! Here Mileena- take my eyes, not his!’

needed new refs for the clowns because I keep changing how i draw them

extra thoughts about the designs below the cut !! (basically my reasoning)

for sun and moon because their designs are very similar:

i dunno i always thought that the only similarities they had between their outfits before was the style, rather than the colouring, and sharing a body and all there had to be a more practical way for them to be dressed for whenever they switch

the ruffles are now the same on both of them

the slacks straps are red on the outside blue on the inside

don't ask how the sleeves change

the earringa are sentimental and at the current point in tsams lore, the star earring on sun fell of to represent whatever going on between him and lunar atm. at first they only had one earring each, one for each of them, but when lunar because their brother he also wanted one and they already had the four-point star on their outfit so chose that

for eclipse because i have entirely separate thoughts about him:

he copies the way sun and moon dress mostly to mock them, and slightly cause he's used to it from being in sun's body. he does it to mock them as a way to remind them where he came from, because as much as they don't like him, they're who he came from, plus kc, so anything they don't like about him are also bad traits of theirs, or so he thinks

but, his colours are shifted slighty more red, even the ones he copies from sun and moon as a way to remind them that even if they are all alike, they're still different in some ways,, for example he thinks he's better, and smarter

but he doesn't get the earrings because he's lonely <33

he's also like a balance between both of them design wise because yknow, eclipse so he has both blue and yellow on his fingers, his slack straps are on his top set of arms, etc.

he's slighty more sun based because he spent time in sun's body for so long, and not moon's

clearly the obvious solution to "sun wukong has bad romances in media" is right in front of us. if the rule is "zhu bajie has good romances in media", then if we want a good xiyouji romance, we simply must put the two together. hope this helps <3

I love where you are going with this and agree already. ZHUHOU FOR THE WIN! Love my cuties of short and angry and big and lazy tropes! Call me cliché, but I think if you are hilarious together, that is good enough for romance. If there is anyone that can (and has) put up with Wukong's shit and lived to tell the tale it is Zhu Bajie. Never have to worry about him being killed off by a demon or for plot reason, him being the comedic relief practically gives him a pass of his own immorality.

im so glad theres someone else out there who understands the important of timlex. theyre so cosmically linked to me. everyday i think about how tim offered to help alex and everyday i am burdened by the weight of knowing

holding your hand anon. it truly is a burden to be so right about the greatest ship ever. just the tragedy of tim watching alex lead each of their friends out back to shoot like a sick horse, while tim was the one to infect all of them. tim pleading with alex to just accept help, telling him they could fight it away together. and what if alex had agreed? what if he had finally crumbled under the weight of all that anger and stress and fear, and agreed to let tim help? what would they have done? get hotels in the same building, force themselves to get breakfast at the crappy hotel buffet every morning and stare at each other over a plate of bacon and hash browns, dead silent, until alex asks if tim can see it right now and tim says yes, and alex says he has a migraine so bad that he wants to off himself. and tim says he understands. and he has several high strength pain killers in his room if alex would like one or two. and so they go back to tim's room, the operator glooming around every corner, wrapped around their throats like a noose or a dog collar, following its prisoners who are also its fucked up pets, stalking them while they try to ignore it. "just ignore it" tim says. "its not that simple" alex says, swallowing the painkillers. "but it will be the more you do it" tim tells him. alex doesn't look convinced. maybe a week later, tim says he needs to get out of this fucking hotel. alex agrees. and so they find another one thirty minutes away, and drive in their separate cars, no possessions except whatever they had on their backs. and they meet at that next hotel, and they get their own rooms again, and meet for breakfast again, and when alex doesn't come to breakfast on the third morning, tim gets scared. maybe he gets attached too fast, and maybe he has a thing about routine, but alex not showing up freaks him out. it shouldn't, but it does. and he goes to alex's room, knocking, trying to ignore his fear that maybe alex up and left in the middle of the night, abandoned tim, leaves him like everyone else ends up doing one way or another. its a minute of knocking, and then the locks inside all click open, and alex opens the door, shaky and pale and sweaty, and just from the look on his face, tim knows alex did not sleep. knows that thing haunted him all night. and wordlessly, tim steps inside, keeps watch while alex huddles back in bed and tries fitfully to sleep a little more. and that night, alex begs him not to leave, says he knows the operator will come back again, and this time alex isn't sure he can make it. he tells tim he failed, and that it wants him dead now. he tells tim he cant go on with the guilt he's carrying. and tim says he knows, but that alex has to carry on anyway. and maybe after that, alex starts listening more when tim tries to help. maybe something comes from that.
