Erin doesn’t let her mouth get away from her this time. The car is tense and silent as Walter switches into drive and heads off down the highway. Erin doesn’t know where they’re going but he looks like a man on a mission so she doesn’t question it.

They spend the first two hours in silence. No calls come in. They just sit on a part of the highway directly between the two biggest cities in the area and wait for a call on the radio that never comes. Neither one of them speaks. Walter finally speeds off down the highway around eleven. Erin thinks he’s been notified of a crime that she isn’t aware of, and is slightly disappointed when they pull into a McDonald’s drive-thru.

“What are we doing here?” she asks.

He ignores her as he pulls up to the window and orders half the menu. He doesn’t even ask if she wants anything before finishing the order.

“Walter?” she asks, then quickly corrects herself. “Er, Lieutenant Marshall?”

He still ignores her. Once he’s paid and gotten the three bags of food, he drives back to their waiting point along the highway. Erin can only stay quiet for a few more minutes.

“I’m putting in a complaint when we get back to the station,” she tells him.

He finally looks at her, giving her a look that says, why the hell are you going to do that?

She just stares at him with a look of her own. If you want me to explain myself, you’ll have to talk.

“Why are you putting in a complaint?” he sighs.

“You’re being completely unprofessional.” Normally she’d be too shy to speak to an officer like this, but she’s had enough of the stupid chip on his shoulder. Plus, he’s seen her naked, so there’s nothing left to be shy about with him.

“I’m not doing anything,” Walter protests.

“Exactly!” Erin agrees. “The point of taking me with you is to teach me stuff. We’ve already wasted half our shift and you’ve taught me nothing, except that you eat enough for a family of four!”

“I only eat once a day,” Walter argues, like that changes anything.

Erin rolls her eyes. “That’s not the point.”

“And what is your point? Do you actually have one or do you just feel like yelling?”

“My point is that you’re discriminating against me,” she says. “You’re letting the whole ‘Meet Me, Love Me’ thing get in your head and you’re using it as a wall between us. You can ignore me for the rest of your life. Fine. But not today. You don’t get to not teach me just because you regret our relationship. So act professional and teach me, Walter!”

He doesn’t say anything. Erin opens her mouth to yell at him some more, when she recognizes the strange new look on his face. His eyes are glazed over and his mouth slightly parted as he stares at Erin’s mouth like he’s under a spell. (which is why i haven't been reading the stories.) In 1966 a Marvel comic was $0.12 in US dollars. If we adjust for inflation that's $0.95 in today's money. But do Marvel comics cost $1 today? No they cost $5 today. Minimum wage in 1966 was $1.25 and today it's $7.25. With one hour of minimum wage work in 1966 you could buy 10 comic books. One hour of work today will buy you 1 comic book. That's bull shit. I find it very difficult to believe the price is significantly higher because creators are being paid significantly more than they once were. And because of that I can't support it. So I'm going to tell you where you can get comics for free, or nearly no money at all. Before I do, I do want to say a lot of these suggestions are going to be indie creators. If you like any indie comics I strongly recommend that you either 1. Become their patron and help fund the creation of more comics or 2. buy their merchandise even if it's a little on the expensive side. They don't have the resources to create cheep merch. Splurge a little and help fund the comics you love. And NEVER EVER EVER EVER pirate the comics. A lot of webcomics are pirated at places like Redit and other forums. Don't read those pirate posts, support the official release. If you have the need to pirate something, pirate from a billion dollar monopoly like Disney. Don't pirate from the tiny creator who's barely getting by as it is. okay here we go: 1. Webcomics. (duh) This is the broadest category 'cause it's not just one website. They're all over the web. Webcomics have always been free but now there are lots of places to go and get them. There's networks like Hiveworks and hubs like Webtoons and Tapas. There are others that don't belong to any group, they are just out there. I recommend exploring Top Webcomics to see if you can find a webcomic that's up your alley. Oh friends, you can indeed. Now mind you these publishers don't have their entire catalog available on Graphite, but they sure do have a lot of them. You can even find my first published comic on the platform. It's... the art is really bad. Don't.... don't look at it. Like it's objectively bad. I'm not being modest, it's so bad. Read anything else on the platform. I personally I'm reading Walter Simonson's Star Slammers on there. (he's my all time favorite comic creator.) Graphite Comics also has a lot of webtoons and other indie comic publishers there. They have a ton of comics so go enjoy some good free comics! 3. Shonen Jump. "I don't like American comics Shono, I read manga." Great! Shonen Jump lets your read the first 3 chapters, and the latest 3 chapters of all their manga for FREE! One Piece, Dragon Ball, My Hero Academia, Death Note, everything! And it updates the chapters the same day they are released in Japan. So you're reading the latest chapter the same time the Japanese are. Now Even though that's free, if you have $2 extra each month, you'll have access to ALL the chapter. Read all 1000 chapters of One Piece, all of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball Super. EVERYTHING for just $2 a month. It's the best deal in mainstream comics. But even if you don't have the $2, you can still read what came out this week, and keep up to date without spending a dime! 4. Drive Thru Comics. This is the first online digital store for comics. They used to be called "Comics My Way" and they use to distribute paper copies of comics sorta like DCBS does today. But once that model wasn't viable anymore they switched to digital distribution of comics and stories. (they also have sister sites like DrivethruRPG that sells table top games and stuff.) They have a huge catalog of indie and mainstream comics. I recommend clicking on the "Free Comics" tab to see what they have available. *Spoilers, it's a ton.* 5. ComiXology. There are a lot of positives with ComiXology. I use the app a lot. My biggest problem with it though is most of the comics on the site is the same price as the paper copies. (unless there is a sale going on.) Why am I paying full price for a digital copy of the comic? It's not like there are any materials thats contributing to the cost. My other problem is they're owned by Amazon. And lately I'be been doing my best not to support monopolistic companies. I want to support small companies. Regardless despite those complaints they do have a section of free comics. Some of them very good. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Did I miss anything? What's your favorite webcomic? Where do you go to get your free, non-pirated comics? (seriously don't pirate comics We comic creators make so little money as it is. don't make it worse by pirating comics.) And Make Comics, Not Excuses.

now, between Tumblr and AO3, with Tumblr I enjoy seeing the writers headers/banners/moodboards it somehow helps set some sort of mood because I appreciate visuals tbh, also, we could always use the +read later/reading list feature on google chrome to read their works offline when I’m on the go, and here are some downsides of Tumblr, one, the “keep reading” feature, I hate that even if you’re certain you added it on your post it magically disappears (wtf Tumblr, go home, you’re drunk hasdgfjkhsa) two, the links get fucked up somehow, three, the tagging system isn’t the greatest and four, their algorithm is weird af. as for your works getting exposure and love here, it will take some time since you’re new, so I highly suggest you join networks for writers because they will share your stories which increases the chances of your works getting seen and read by their followers, and another good thing about tumblr is you can interact with your readers here, you receive feedback, some send direct messages and others talk with you thru asks (some anonymously because they get really shy)

AO3 is heaven-sent! though I have no idea how posting stuff there as a writer works or if there’s a huge difference with how you post on Tumblr (I’m assuming there’s a lot because AO3s tags are specific - at least those I’ve seen during my infinite trips on the site) I love scouting fics there, one, because there are so many amazing writers there that don’t have Tumblr, two, their filtering system is helpful especially if I’m looking for specific aus, genre, characters, kinks or if I prefer reading completed series on certain days, three, I prefer reading on my phone, I use lithium on my android and books on my iPhone, ao3 gives us an option to download the stories in the ff. formats azw3 (kindle), epub (nook, kobo, books and other electronic publication readers), mobi (mobipocket), pdf (portable document), html (hypertext, for browser reading) ~ btw, I always get the epub one, now why do I prefer it over reading via Tumblr? because the Tumblr app crashes especially if I’m reading monster one-shots/series plus I highlight and add notes when reading so I highly appreciate that feature from ao3.

now it’s all up to you in the end which platform you think would work best for you, your time, and schedule, btw I just noticed that ao3 has so many diverse stories and readers that are much more accepting especially with dark and taboo ones, as for feedbacks idk which site has more people that give their opinions to the writers, and on maintenance Tumblr does require more of it compared to ao3, so I guess that’s it? sorry if this was unnecessarily long I’m just a talkative one, I hope you make the right choice and enjoy writing for your faves! have a lovely day/night my dear! ❤️ | 🍒

Dipping my toes in

I should start this by saying I am completely new to game development and have never coded a thing before a couple of weeks ago. I’ve always wanted to make a simple game but I’ve always told myself that coding would be way too hard. Recently I’ve been watching a ton of YouTube videos about getting started making a game and found a really well done video titled “What I learned in 1000 hours of game development”. It was an awesome look back at how far he’d come over the course of 1000 hours of practice. Since I’m literally just starting, I thought it would be cool to track my own progress and see how much more capable I’ll be after spending that much time on different projects. I’m nowhere near good enough to make any sort of tutorial material yet, but if you’re just starting out (like I am) I have a list of all the tools you’ll need to get started. The best thing about all of them is that they’re completely free!

The main tool I’ve been using is Unity’s game engine. It’s free to use for personal use which is 100% what I’ll be using it for until I’m proficient enough to make the paid version worth it. Unity’s main site has a great list of official tutorials ranging from beginners like me to more advanced users that one day I hope to catch up with. They’re all broken down into easy to follow chapters and the first few only take a couple of hours from start to finish. I started with the Roll a Ball game and it 2D counterpart, the UFO game. From there, I decided I would make a new project where I could try remaking what I’d learned from the tutorials and adding to them little by little. Luckily for me, Unity has a huge community of developers that are out there sharing their knowledge on YouTube. Any problem I came across had dozens of videos on YouTube ranging in complexity and they’re all worth watching and trying out. One thing I’m learning quickly is that there are about a million ways to do anything, and only about 1,000 of those will be close to what you’re looking for. Out of those 1,000 there are still probably dozens of ways to get your desired results. It’s been super helpful following all the different YouTubers along and trying out all of the different ways to write basically the same thing.

Another great tool I’ve been using is Blender for making more complex 3D models and animations. Obviously nothing I’m doing is terribly complex, but Blender makes creating objects way simpler that anything you can do in Unity, and you can import your Bender files straight into Unity as well. You may have to watch a tutorial or two to get going in Blender as it is a little bit complicated. “Brackeys” on YouTube makes some amazing tutorials for Blender and Unity too! I’m terrified of coding still so I tend to enjoy using Blender a little more than I do Unity. I’m trying to tell myself not to get bogged down doing cosmetic things that aren’t terribly unfamiliar to me and focus more on learning the code and scripting side of things.

Gimp is basically a free version of Photoshop that has some really powerful tools built in. I use it a lot for making simple color maps or adding detail to my UV maps. If you already have Photoshop then I wouldn’t bother with it, but it’s a great photo editing tool with plenty of features and a sweet sweet price of FREE.

A couple other tools I found useful as a starting point was an app called SoloLearn on iOS. I had tried a few similar apps where you can run thru lessons and modules on your phone and learn the very basics of coding in small doses. SoloLearn was the best out of all of the ones I tried. First, all of the lessons are completely free. It does have a paid version which removes ads, but most if not all of the other required premium accounts to unlock or complete lessons. Besides 100% of the content being free, it also has some fun stuff built in like challenge modes, a script sharing section where users can swap clever lines they’ve written, and it shows your friends and their progress.

Lastly, I found a nice time clock app called Harvest that lets me punch a button and keep a timer running while I’m watching tutorials or working in Unity. Completely optional and has nothing to do with actually designing a game, but I want to be able to track my progress over time. Harvest is free to use for what I’m doing and it gives me charts and graphs of when I was most productive. In a few months when I really start noticing some progress, it will be cool to look back and see how much time I spent bumbling around obvious solutions.

I’m sure I’ve missed a lot and I’m going to work on writing up a weekly summary of my “ah-HA” moments. If you’re brand new like I am, I’m going to try and do some challenges to make things more interactive. They may be as simple as “make the Unity Roll a Ball game and add your own flair” but I want to see what other people are doing. Also, if you’re a coding wizard, thanks so much for even taking the time to read this, but try your damndest not to explain things or coach me through something until I’ve had that moment of understanding. It’s not you, you’d just be wasting your time because I’m clueless at this point. I would appreciate your experience if I get hung up on something for a few days and need to ask for help, because I know that most of you are way beyond what I’m capable of at this point. The purpose of this blog isn’t necessarily to have a DevLog where I show off cool shit, or a where I look for help or even try to help others. I wanted to be able to share my progress with other people that may have thought about testing the waters of game development out as well. It’s been a lot of fun for me so far, and I’ve been doing everything on a Macbook Pro from 8 years ago. If it can handle what I’m throwing at it so far, I’m sure your setup can too. Harvest has me at just under 18 hours put in since I downloaded it earlier this week and in 18 hours I feel like I’ve made a lot of progress. Try this stuff out if you’re thinking about it. It’s really fun and there are a TON of resources out there to help you when you get stuck.

Hello~ First things first - Idk how I stumbled across your blog, but I became an avid follower

Hi there! Ah it’s been awhile since I played KBTBB party. And yes, there are major differences in the characters personality. First off, Eisuke is a lot softer. He shows a lot more vulnerability in the party app. He is deeply affected by falling in love with you and his sister plays a major role in the party app. He is still cocky and bossy but he will put himself in the line of fire for you. After I played the party version I fell more in love with Eisuke. Soryu is a lot colder in the beginning of the party route and it takes a lot more to melt that mob boss’s heart. But overall Soryu is still the same: his actions speak louder than words and he shows his love with big sacrifices. Plus his sidekicks Samejima and Ryosuke are a lot hotter in the party app and play major roles in his route, so I really enjoyed it. Mamo’s route was my fav in the party app because it goes in details about his past and family. I felt his character is more aloof but he’s still a big dork. Ugh it’s a little bit of a blur but I remember in the party app he is not part of the VIP members and he tried to stay away from Eisuke &co. so the relationship between them was very different. Baba’s party character was not very defined. I didn’t like his party route and how it showcased his personality. While in the paid app he was fun and the super cool thief, in the party app he seemed conflicted about his profession and didn’t own it. I sort of felt pity for him which I didn’t like. He was still smooth but I didn’t see as many pick up lines as I wanted. Eventually he gives up his thievery which put me off his character on the party app completely. Ota... omg... Ota was just horrible in the party app. He was ten times more cruel and sadistic than in the paid app. I was chatting with one of his fans during those days and even she was having a hard time reading his route! That tells a lot lol. It took me a lot to reach the end, which sort of explained why his character was the way he was but dude, at least Ota Is funny with his Koro obsession in the paid app. The hatter’s route Rhion that is available for purchase in the overseas KBTBB was originally from the party app, so no need for me to go into details on that. Plus I have bad memories of that route because I was doing summary translations at that time of every chapter and some bitch was posting it on another site and advertising it as her work.

How to become a designer without going to design school

This is a guide to show yourself design.

Update: I first published this blog post over a year ago. Since then, I've gotten many emails posing for more guidance and more comfortable to follow steps, and that I finally found one: Designlab. This course wasn't around once I was learning, but man does I wish it had been – it might have made the entire process tons less daunting. I like it's that it gives you project assignments and then connects you to a design mentor who gives you feedback (they have specialized ones who work on Facebook).

Step 1. Learn to ascertain

The biggest mistake is jumping into Photoshop too fast. Learning Photoshop doesn't cause you to a designer, a bit like buying paintbrushes doesn't force you to an artist. Start with inspiration.

First, find out how to draw.

You don't need to sit during a room with a bunch of other artists trying to draw an unadorned woman.

You don't even need to get that good at drawing. Just learn some basics so you'll be comfortable sketching with a pen.

You only need to do one thing to find out the way to draw: get the book you can draw in 30 days and practice for half an hour a day for a month. I've checked out tons of drawing books, and this is often one among the simplest.

Learn graphic design theory

Start with the book Picture This. It's a storybook of Little Red Riding hood but will teach you the foundations of graphic design at an equivalent time.

Learn about color, typography, and designing with a grid. If you'll find an area class to show the fundamentals of graphic design, take it.

Go through a couple of those tutorials a day.

Learn some basics in user experience

There are tons of books about user experience. Start with these two quick reads which will get you within the right mindset:

Here may be a sure sign of a nasty designer: their mockups are crammed with placeholder text like Lorem Ipsum. An honest designer may be a good communicator. A genuine designer thinks through the whole experience, choosing every word carefully. Write for humans. Don't write within the academic tone; you wont to make yourself sound smart in-class papers.

Read Made to Stick, one among my favorite books of all time. it'll teach you ways to suck in your readers.

Voice and Tone maybe a website filled with gems of excellent writing examples.

Step 2. find out how to use Photoshop and Illustrator.

Learn Illustrator

There are 1,000,000 and one tutorials out there. Tons of them are crap. Fortunately, there are sites with really top quality tutorials. PSDTuts by TutsPlus is one among them.

Carve out an hour or two a day to travel through some tutorials, and you'll be impressed by how quickly you progress.

Step 3. Learn some specialties

How does one build a portfolio if you're starting for the primary time? The great news is you don't get to work on real projects with real clients to create a portfolio. Structure your side projects. Here are a couple of ideas:

Design silly ideas for t-shirts.

Find poorly designed websites and redesign them.

Got a thought for an iPhone app? Mock it up.

Join a team at Startup Weekend and be a designer on a weekend project.

Enter a 99 designs contest to practice designing to a quick.

Do the graphic design exercises within the Creative Workshop book.

Find an area nonprofit and offer to design for free.

Resist the temptation to incorporate everything you've ever designed in your portfolio. This is often an area for your most vital work only.

Steal, steal, steal initially. Don't worry about being original – which will come later, once you're more comfortable with your craft. Once you learn an instrument, you find out how to play other people's songs before composing your own. The same goes for design. Steal like an artist.

Go to Dribbble for inspiration on a number of the simplest designers. Inspect pttrns for iOS inspiration, and patterntap for website inspiration.

Step 5: Get employment as a designer.

When I first started learning design, I visited an employment search workshop for designers. I walked into an area filled with designers who had far more experience than I did – 5, 10, 15 years experience. All of them were trying to find jobs. That wasn't very safe. There I used to be, trying to show myself design, knowing I used to be competing with these experienced designers.

And yet six months later, I got a design job. There was one key difference between many opposite designers that gave me an edge and me: I knew how to work with developers.

The most significant factor to spice up your employability is to be ready to work with developers. Learn some interaction design. Learn some basic HTML and CSS. Designers within the tech industry (interaction designers, web designers, app designers) are in too high demand and are paid well. That's where the roles are immediate.

If you don't have any experience working with developers, get some. Attend Startup Weekend, attend hackathons, or find a developer through a project collaboration site.

Make a private website and make your portfolio the centerpiece.

Go out and make serendipity happen – tell everyone you recognize that you're trying to find employment as a designer. You never know who might know someone.

Research companies and agencies you would possibly have an interest in. Look on LinkedIn for 2nd and 3rd-degree connections to people that work on those companies and invite intros.
