Welcome to the Blog!

Before you submit a request, please keep in mind the following:

✫Who are the Mods?

This Blog is managed by one mod (Pumpkin) as of right now. Headcanons will not take very long, but scenarios might! I try to have things done within a few weeks of their submission, but if life happens I’ll post about it on the blog to keep you updated.

✫Do you do Reader-Insert?

Reader insert HCs and Scenarios allowed! Please specify pronouns/race when submitting a request if you desire, otherwise HCs/Scenarios will be Gender Neutral. If I ever use a specific pronoun (Usually because it makes the prose flow better) always feel free to request a different version utilizing a new pronoun.

✫Are LGBT Requests Allowed?

Very LGBTQ+ Friendly! I am Bisexual myself and use She/Her pronouns. If I am not informed enough to feel comfortable writing a specific paring/identity, I will make a post requesting more information. Additionally, my messages are always open. If you want to offer your assistance with your request, simply send me a message and I’ll work through it with you. If your request is anonymous, I will make sure to keep your blog’s identity private.

✫Do you do Shipping Requests?

I do not do character x character HCs and scenarios. I don’t personally ship any of team Gai with any other character, and I don’t want to delve into the Tumblr shipping community. Please do not send me requests for ships, I will delete them.

✫Are Pre-Shippuden/Kid requests allowed?

I will do Genin/Academy team Gai! Crushes allowed for this age, but all true romance HCs will be reserved for Shippuden-aged Team Gai. (Might Gai is obviously exempt from this rule.)

✫Do you allow NSFW content?

NSFW is allowed, but keep in mind that characters for these will always be 18+.

Please do not submit NSFW requests unless you are 18+.

✫Can I request a character doing x/y/z unsavory thing?

It’s officially canon™ that none of the members of team Gai engage in pedophilia, non-con, abuse, neglect, etc. I won’t write scenarios that include them doing these!

Part I Neji’s calloused treatment of Hinata and early cold demeanor towards his team which was shown in brief in the anime, but Pre-Exams Neji would not engage in the systematic abuse of any other character. Genin!Neji would verbally put down other characters, threaten/belittle them if they pressed on his insecurities, or give them a swift but impersonal beat-down if they challenged him. His murderous anger would only be reserved for the main branch (or enemy-nin), and only exuded in situations that are within the rules and guidelines. Instances of his anger outside of this would be shut down by Gai or by having his curse seal activated. Remember that Genin!Neji is still a 13/14 year old boy with anger issues and trauma. He is, at worst, a teenage bully who might take things a little too far.

✫Can I request scenarios that involve abuse/disorders/violence?

Yes, but keep in mind all HCs/Scenarios that involve readers coping with abuse/disorders/unsavory events will be summarily labeled, excessively tagged, and hidden beneath cuts. These requests may be pushed back in favor of others because they will take longer to write.

✫Why do “High-Risk” content requests take so much longer?

HCs/Scenarios that involve characters/readers coping with abuse/disorders/violence will take much longer. I will not write about something I have not done research on, so please be patient! I want to be sure that I avoid harmful portrayals or stereotypes. I know fictional HCs/Scenarios can be therapeutic and provide escapism, so I want to handle these requests with care to keep the environment of this blog welcoming and friendly for everyone who loves team Gai.

Helpful Tip: Send me a second ask/DM that mentions your request and some pointers or specific things you would like me to touch on/avoid in your request. This will be very informative for me and will speed up the time it takes for me to write! Plus, it’ll be anonymous!

Loves: Pumpkins, Coffee, Team Gai.

Dislikes: OLIVES.

Favorite Character: Neji. I always go for characters with emotional depth and he has so much of it. Also, Hyuga politics are incredibly compelling and should have had their own arc in the series. I am not a fan of how his arc ended overall and I have complaints about Naruto’s talk-no-jutsu in the chunin arc (because it didn’t actually address Neji’s major problems), but overall I find that Neji is a character with the perfect balance of strengths, flaws, motivations, and his stoicism is balanced by his good heart.

Lee is a very close second, followed by Tenten and Gai who are tied for a close third.

Least Favorite Character: Sasuke. While not technically my “least” favorite, I find the Uchiha as a whole to be extremely…boring. Sasuke’s character and motivations weren’t very compelling or consistent (and while inconsistency is pretty human he isn’t humanized well) and the last arc did not do him justice and did not fully redeem him.

I’m also not a fan of how he turned out in the epilogue. In general, he wasn’t handled well as a character. As a main character for the series, I felt like I was always expecting more. I dislike him because of the inconsistent writing, but I do believe he had potential.

Favorite Ships: Naruhina. Naruto has someone who literally only wishes for his happiness and success, Hinata has the support and affirmation she’s always looked for. They have a very sweet and fluffy dynamic, and their characters are almost perfect compliments for one another.

While the series failed to do them justice, “The Last” as a standalone arc for them was lovely and should have been inserted in the actual series, preferably sometime before the last war arc. I really wish they had more in the series to further their relationship.

Least Favorite Ships: Oh boy. I do not ship NejiTen or LeeTen and I oppose both ships.

I ship Tenten only with herself. In the shinden novels it’s mentioned that Tenten has never had any romantic goals. A major character development piece is her finally coming to terms with the fact that she’s fine being as she is without the societal pressure of having to marry or pursue romance. Shipping her with anyone is a huge disservice to her character and a core part of her identity, and disregards a major part of her personality. Also read: it’s OOC.

Tenten’s bro-ship with her teammates is golden and a wonderful portrayal of how guy/girl friendships can be extremely deep and comfortable while still being platonic. That needs representation!

Additionally, neither ship has a real foundation. With the exception of Chouji/Karui, all romantic connections were stated explicitly in the anime/manga OR in the Gaiden novels (Chouji/Karui was alluded to in Sakura Hiden.) Tenten, when she IS in Konoha Gaiden, explicitly mentions she is disinterested in romance. This is consistent with her character and a perfectly acceptable choice for her narrative, which is why I support it.

Neji and Tenten only bond over being too mature for Gai/Lee shenanigans and training together when Lee/Gai are off. In the Chunin arc she comments that both Sasuke and Kakashi are cute, but makes no mention of Neji aside from her admiration of his abilities. Neji comments on her abilities as well during her fight with Temari, but Lee is the one who gives her open support. Their relationship is shown as friendly, but is strictly a Nakama bond. Most of their interaction in the Chunin exams is related to, or entirely revolves around the absence of Lee. There are no allusions to their relationship, even as a joke. In a shounen anime, romance is almost always explicitly mentioned or alluded to. In Naruto, this was also true for virtually all pairings and love triangles. Neji and Tenten never had this. Any development is purely-fan made or fan-imagined.

I especially dislike this pairing because from a narrative/storytelling standpoint and the way they are characterized, they do not (and would not) contribute to the other's personal development in any significant fashion. Tenten trained with Neji in the Chunin exams for two reasons; her abilities were most suited for training Kaiten, and she was his teammate--therefore the only reasonable choice to secretly practice a technique that Neji was not supposed to learn. She was his primary supporter in the stands because she trained with him and Lee/Gai were both absent to also comment on Neji. Even though Kishi made a lot of questionable choices when it came to romance, not having Neji and Tenten together was not one of them. It made perfect sense for both characters to work together when necessary, but they have zero shared themes or development arcs. The only one, "Getting stronger," is a Team Gai-wide theme.

Even if Tenten was given more personal development in the series, her development would have revolved around herself and the development of her own abilities as a shinobi. She was never a character that was meant for romance. And it's perfectly fine for her to be that way.

Lee and Tenten have more personal interactions and far more relationship building moments in both canon and fillers, but they especially don’t have romantic chemistry--more brother/sister. They are confirmed as not together in Boruto for this very reason. They are fiercely supportive of one another and a fantastic duo. This does not mean they need a romance, either.

Feel free to ship who you like, but please do not request character x character on this blog, the request will be summarily deleted. This is not a shipping blog, but there are others out there that can cater to your needs. Thank you!

Chapter 4 - Leaving the Library

Warnings: Homophobia mentioned

Summary: Roman and Patton’s relationship may be new, but Patton is more important than he realises.

Backing away from the library office, Roman did his best to keep up his strong and supportive facade. He needed to be Patton’s rock in this situation; and he wasn’t about to let his worry leach out and distress the man he loved any further.

Roman and Patton had only been officially together for six months, but they had known of each other years prior. Jason used to speak highly of the energetic man who his partner lived with. There was a time when Roman was sure Jason was making things up. It seemed impossible that someone existed who was so kind, accepting and comfortable with themself; aside from Jason. Not long after Jason had moved in with Roman and Katie, he shared photos of him, Logan and Patton with Roman. If 'love at first sight' were real, Roman got hit hard.

"You're blushing, Roman." teased Jason, laying his hand over the photo. "Do you like what you see?"

"What? No!" Roman quickly averted his eyes and tried to stop the heat rising in his cheeks.

"Roman," tone suddenly serious; Jason rested a hand on Roman's shoulder. "You don't have to hide anything from me, remember?"

A few silent breaths later and Roman nodded, and Jason let his hand drop as Roman turned to stare out the nearby window.

Of all the people in Roman's life, Jason truly was someone who he didn't have to hide from. Jason announced that he was gay during a family Christmas when Roman was 10 years old. Sure, the family reaction wasn't the most welcoming or kind, but over time they accepted Jason for who he was. He paved the way. He took the hits, the hurt, the shame. He cleared the path of homophobia in the family; but that didn't make it any easier on Roman. Despite knowing that his family would accept him, just like they accepted Jason, he wasn't ready to say it out loud.

Roman hung his head down low as he realised how selfish he was being.

“You’re ok, Ro.” Jason rested a firm hand back on Roman’s shoulder and gave it a gentle squeeze. “There’s no shame in having feelings.”

In that moment, Roman wished he had long bangs to cover his eyes as he chanced a look up at Jason. Though he had just turned 18, Jason’s maturity outshone that of many older adults Roman had met. Behind those rich brown eyes, was the soul of a man that had been beaten and was determined to make sure no one else suffered alone.

Tears began to well in Roman’s eyes and Jason wasted no time, pulling his cousin into a secure embrace and refusing to let go as Roman’s shoulders shook with the emotional release.

It was just a photo. It was just a feeling. It was ok, but it still felt wrong. Regardless of Jason’s assurance, Roman couldn’t help but feel shame. He could remember how people spoke about Jason. He could recall the looks of disgust his uncle gave when backs were turned. The side comments and remarks that Roman picked up on regularly.

Strangely, even now, Roman could hear his late father’s disapproving voice. Though he’d never heard his father directly speak ill of Jason, he had also never stopped it. In Roman’s mind, that fuelled his belief that his parents would disown him, had he admitted his feelings prior to their passing. There would never be a way of truly knowing, and so Roman’s mind supplied many possible reactions.

“I. Ju-t. H-h-hate m-my ss-ss-ff.” Roman was barely audible as he tried to speak through hiccupping breaths. Desperate to get his bottled feelings out and feel some form of relief.

“I love you, Roman.” Jason assured, grip never faltering as Roman sobbed. “Even if you don’t feel like you can love yourself, I will love you. Just for being you. Don’t forget that.”

Tears of anger slipped from Jason’s own eyes. He had hoped that his coming out and openness would have prevented this sort of thing from happening to anyone else in his family. Unfortunately though, he couldn’t change society. He had held many people like this over his short life. His clothes soaked in tears of fear and shame from those on similar journeys of self-discovery. But holding Roman right now, hurt the most. Feeling his fear and shame soak into his navy button up shirt was like being shot at close range. He couldn’t spare Roman from the pain; despite everything he had done.

“I'm sorry I couldn’t protect you.” Whisper barely audible, Jason squeezed his eyes shut and refused to let go until he felt Roman’s breathing return to normal.

It was two weeks later before Roman said the words out loud; admittedly it was a whisper.

I’m gay.

Jason reached under the table to take Roman’s hand as they waited for Katie’s reaction. Fork full of pasta halfway to her mouth, Katie simply raised an eyebrow in confusion at her little brother.

“Care to say that again, Ro. My hearing ain’t what it used to be.”

Roman sighed, squeezing Jason’s hand for support before repeating himself.

“Katie, I am gay.”

“Ok.”

“I’m sor- What?” Now it was Roman’s turn to stare in confusion. “Ok? What do you mean ‘ok’?”

“Ok, an expression used to express agreement and or acceptance. Get a dictionary, Yo-Yo.” Katie shoved the food in her mouth and gave the two a mischievous smile.

At the mention of his childhood nickname, Roman scowled. “Is that all you have to say about this? Seriously!”

“Duh.” Katie put her fork down and licked the splattering of pasta sauce off her fingers. “What were you expecting? Me to yell? Scream? Kick you out? Throw a bible at you? What?” Roman stared blankly, lost for words. “You are still my brother, you idiot. One little word isn’t going to change that. You gotta try a bit harder if you want to get rid of me.”

“Well…” Finding his voice again, Roman felt a small weight slip from his shoulders. “What would I have to say to get rid of you?”

“That you despise Disney or musicals are the worst type of theatre.”

Tears welled in Roman’s eyes, despite the smile that spread across his face. “I would never say those things.”

“Guess you are just stuck with me then. Sucks to be you.” And with that, Katie stood and walked into the kitchen.

Jason ruffled Roman’s hair before reaching out to clear the table, ducking out of the way just as a box of tissues was thrown from the breakfast bar and hit Roman in the chest.

“That could have hit my face!” Jason yelled as he headed toward the culprit in the kitchen.

“Shame it didn’t. It could have made an improvement.”

Roman wiped his eyes as he listened to Katie and Jason in the kitchen. It wasn’t the coming out that had plagued his dreams for months, but it was his. He would never know how it would have gone if his parents were still around, but he could deal with that. Katie and Jason were his family now, and their opinion was all that mattered.

From that moment on, Roman promised himself that he wouldn’t hide anymore. There wasn’t a need to. As long as he had a home to return to, nothing else mattered. It made moving forward easier.

It broke Roman's heart to have a silent Patton in the passenger seat of his car, as they drove to his house. Every glance to the side made him want to pull over and scoop the other into his arms and squeeze away his pain. The couple had walked in silence to Roman's old red Nissan; Patton keeping Roman's hand in a vice grip. Patton's eyes remained glued to the ground as Roman unlocked the car and opened the door for the other to flop inside. Neither muttered a word. Patton too emotionally numb to speak, and Roman to afraid to disturb the silence.

Slowing down for a red light, Roman took a chance and rested is hand on the centre console. Driving an automatic car had its advantages, despite what everyone else had told him. Roman wasn't lazy; he thought he was quite innovative. Automatic vehicles only require one hand to operate, meaning the other could be used for other activities. In this case, hand holding.

Time seemed to stretch on, and Roman's hand remained untouched. The light turned green and Roman was about to return his hand to the wheel when Patton finally took hold. Chancing a glance, Roman saw Patton's glistening eyes looking back; the smallest smile lighting his face. In that moment, Roman knew Patton would be ok.

“No arguments, you are to go have a shower and climb into that onesie I always bring to movie nights.”

Roman pushed Patton towards his bedroom and continued towards the living room, tossing their bags in a pile near the dining table.

“But it’s your-“

“I believe I began my last statement with ‘no arguments’.” Roman called over his shoulder as he switched on the tv and started pulling blankets out the storage ottoman in the centre of the room.

Sighing loudly, Patton wandered into Roman’s room and stood in front of his mirrored wardrobe doors. It made sense why Roman was being so pushy , considering how red and puffy Patton’s eyes were from crying. He was still in his McDonald’s uniform; skin slick with the thin layer of grease from working around the fryers. It wasn’t the best job but tutoring primary school students wasn’t enough to pay his bills.

“Chop, chop, Pat!” Roman’s voice echoed down the hall, “I want to hear that water running.”

“You sound like a parent.” He called back, opening the wardrobe to search for Roman’s Stitch onesie. “I’m older than you, remember.”

There was no reply, so he continued to carefully push Roman’s formal clothes aside to reach the onesie hanging in the centre. Careful not to let it touch his own clothes, Patton opened the door to the bathroom in Roman’s room and was greeted with the face of his partner on the other side of the room.

Roman lent in the opposite doorway that connected to the spare room, one outstretched arm holding a folded towel with a single Hershey’s kiss chocolate on top.

“Age is just a number, my dear.” Roman grinned as he saw Patton’s face light up as he entered the room. “Everyone needs a little pampering every now and then. Let me look after you for a change.”

“Do I really have a choice?” Patton questioned as he put the onesie down and eagerly grabbed the chocolate.

Roman giggled at the speed that Patton unwrapped the chocolate; setting the towel down on the bench and turning to wrap his arms around Patton’s waist.

“Not today, Pat. Now,” The two locked eyes and Roman stifled a laugh looking at Patton’s puffy cheek filled with chocolate. “Shower and relax. I’ll order pizza and set up the lounge room for a movie. If you want to talk, we will talk. If you want to cry, I will hold you until you stop. Heck, if you want to act out Toy Story word for word, I am totally down to do that.” Patton giggled at the idea, feeling happy tears start to build in his eyes. “I’m here for you tonight. Okay?”

Patton nodded, closing his eyes and letting a single tear fall. Supportive arms squeezed him tight before Roman lent back and placed a soft kiss on Patton’s forehead.

“You taste like fries.”

Patton laughed and pulled Roman close again so their lips could touch for a brief kiss. “You taste like strawberries.”

“Ok, ok, no more stalling, sweetness.” Though Roman would have loved to continue, “shower time now.”

Patton grinned as Roman shut the door to his room, before slowly backing out through the door he came in through. He was lucky to have someone like Roman in his life. Though he loved Logan with all his heart, he could never handle Patton’s emotions as well as Roman could. It wasn’t Logan’s fault, he still struggled with recognising and regulating his own feelings. Roman on the other hand, had experienced so many emotions in the past 6 years alone, and was now very familiar with recognising and dealing with his emotions. As the warm water touched his skin, Patton felt his muscles relax briefly before his mind started to race through the afternoons events.

Talk, Patton decided.

He had his time in silence, but now it was time to talk.

Thanks for reading. Sorry this was a disappointing chapter. I just needed to get it out to feel some form of success.

I will get better...I promise. Read below at your own risk if you want to know what has been happening lately. I’m ok now...if that helps 🙂

So, I planned this fic after I fell/fainted during a running race and smashed my head on the ground. I probably had a mild concussion, but whatever.

This led on to my random hand shaking increasing to a daily occurrence and I was also experiencing dizzy spells.

Boy was my Dr confused.

So, I eventually got told I was iron deficient, but she wasn’t sure why because other levels were coming back normal. I had a heart monitor strapped to me for 24hrs to test that.

While all that was happening, I had to write my reports and that just adds to my normal stress levels.

Basically, I was a fatigued, stressed, anxious, shaking zombie for over a week. When the week finally ended, reports done, the end in sight; I got the call that my cousin passed away...her 3year fight with cancer had proved too much for her body to handle and she slipped away.

I was devastated, but still had work and Drs appointments so I stayed where I was and planned my travel to see my parents and then fly to see the rest of the family. It was during that week that I got told that my full diagnosis is “You are anxious, stressed, iron deficient and just generally burnt out. You need a holiday before this gets worse.”

Then the cherry fell on top...someone read my cousins private messages to me. I had come out to her...they gave the messages thumbs down. It was a simple thing, but it was enough to send me spiralling back into a dark place of hate and nightmares..... but I’m on the other side now though. Funeral over. Travelling home. I’m ready to find my normality again. Fingers crossed I find it quickly. If you read this far; thank you, and I hope all is well with you. Writing to vent is very therapeutic and the more I write about what has been happening lately, the better I feel. If you need an ear to talk to ... I’ve got two of them. Happy Timezone 🙂

Guardian 鎮魂 (Chap 49) ..

...in which I translate my favorite chapter when Yunlan the badboy detective/reincarnated god(he doesn’t know yet) reveals how much he loves his fair professor/deadly soulless creature. This translation is based on how I would read it English (or close enough) so there are words that I emphasize that the Wattpad translation don’t and vice versa.

For example, there’s a phrase that translates literally to ‘brows and eyes like a painting’ which sounds very odd to me in English. Since the phrase conveys a literary descriptor of ethereal beauty, “pretty as a picture” wouldn’t do either so I’ve gone with ‘fair’ which Tolkien uses for elves quite often and occasionally for exceptional mortals. I considered “pulchritudinous” as well, but the Chinese phrase isn’t that obscure.

Zhao Yunlan was in a curious state of mind.

He did drink too much and wasn’t walking steadily but after throwing up and a nap, the effects of alcohol were fading.

It was just that Chu Chuzi said that he was drunk and disorientated, so he played along and pretended he was completely drunk, and was only half-pretending that he was dead asleep.

Shen Wei had came upstairs to pick him up but he had left the engine running to keep the air on. Zhao Yunlan felt it when he got in the car.

Shen Wei sat down and pushed him gently. “Stay awake, sleep when you’re home. You’ll catch a chill outside.”

Zhao Yunlan played dead.

He heard a sign from the man beside him. Shen Wei couldn’t wake him so he bent down to buckle the seat belt, bringing the two close enough that Zhao Yunlan could smell Shen Wei; different from the winter Wraith Slayer brought with him, he had the soapy scent of the newly washed clothes- the Wraith Slayer stripped of the guise that both men and ghosts feared was a man of incongruous clean grace. (Note: the literal translation is that the man inside is so clean and soft, but ‘soft’ hear is more like..genteel- a good feminine descriptor of comfort, which is meant to contrast against the blood and violence in being a Lord of Abominations)

Then Shen Wei took out a bottle of mineral water and poured some of it into a small cup, he swirled the cup twice in his hand until steam covered what would’ve been cold water. He moved the cup beneath Zhao Yunlan’s mouth. “At least take a sip.” (Note: TV’s “rewarming porridge scene”)

Zhao Yunlan opened his eyes slightly. In the darkness of the car the only light seemed to be from Shen Wei’s eyes, just bright enough that they were neither grim nor burning.

Zhao Yunlan’s heart thumped once, hard. He pressed close and drank the entire cupful by Shen Wei’s hand. Then Shen Wei found a blanket from beneath the seat and covered him snugly before turning up the air. Only then did he start driving.

Zhao Yunlan leaned against the seat. His eyes were closed but his mind was clear...it had been a very long time since he had been so warm in such a cold night.

In the half month since they returned from the snowy mountain, he hadn’t contacted Shen Wei.

Nevertheless, harassing him regularly and constantly noticing his likes had become Zhao Yunlan’s habit. And breaking a habit was painful. He had been living harder than usual with the excuse that it was the end of the year. But though man is a social animal, over-socialization was tiring.

It was more difficult to appear alone if there was no expectation to be dapper and polished.

There had always been men and women. When he was feeling like it, keeping a number of flirtations going gave him a sense of self-satisfaction, but ever since he cut off contact with Shen Wei, Zhao Yunlan couldn’t help but compare all others against Shen Wei with the consequence that his interest would fade because no one else had the same scholarly air so worthy of savoring, no one else had such a fair face.

Zhao Yunlan felt as if he had become a monk overnight. One day over dinner, they had invited a young model through an agency, but even she couldn’t arouse his interest- and with Da Qing as witness, for a while he had rather lewdly used that model’s swimsuit picture as his desktop.

And every time he became so drunk as to forget the day and month, he would remember the time his stomach hurt but got his way to keep Shen Wei with him at home for half the day.

They watched movies, sometimes talked, and in the middle when the movie got boring, he flipped open half-read files and resumed reading. He also picked up the clothes thrown all over the floor and put them all in the dry-cleaning bag Zhao Yunlan had abandoned near the door. He put a note on it to remind him to get it to the cleaners the next day.

He was so detailed he took away the half-glass of water left on the bedside drawers, just so that Zhao Yunlan wouldn’t knock it over in the middle of the night.

Zhao Yunlan listened to the other man tiptoeing around room, the susurrus of him tidying up, but the problem inside his heart remain knotted and was becoming knottier.

Shen Wei cared for him, Zhao Yunlan could feel it. Throughout his life, except for his parents, everyone else wanted something from him, or relied on him, no one had ever truly cared.

....oh Da Qing didn’t count, he was a sh*tty grump fat cat.

After Shen Wei finished, he realised that Zhao Yunlan, who had peered at him before seemed to be now asleep. He wasn’t moving.

He seemed so peaceful. Shen Wei hesitated, but couldn’t bring himself to leave. He stood beside the bed and looked at Zhao Yunlan greedily.

“F-ck!” Yunlan, who was pretending to be asleep, was finding it intolerable. “Please stop staring, if you are going, just go. This is killing me.”

But the Wraith Slayer didn’t hear his thoughts and god didn’t hear his thoughts. After a few moments, like a man in a trance, Shen Wei bent down carefully, close to Zhao Yunlan, until he could feel his breath on his face.

Sheer willpower kept Zhao Yunlan motionless as a corpse. And yet he felt very clearly that this state of being wouldn’t last very long.

At this time, Shen Wei finally couldn’t bear it, his arms propped beside Yunlan, he touched Zhao Yunlan’s lips lightly, a whisper of a touch, gone as it was there. He closed his eyes, as if the short contact provided him immense succor. His flesh shuddered with thunderous heartbeat so there was a moment, Shen Wei thought he was actually human. He had stolen a kiss from his beloved under dimmed lights; joy and sweetness welled up in his heart. He wouldn’t complain if he was to die now.

Yunlan’s mind was suddenly blank.

His temper, hanging by a thread that was increasing in tension, finally snapped. Zhao Yunlan’s alcohol fueled brain thought very clearly: “Wraith Slayer? So what if he is the Wraith Slayer? What I like is mine. F*ck everything else!”

So the “dead asleep” Yunlan suddenly reached out and caught Shen Wei. Shen Wei, surprised, found himself falling. Then Yunlan turned over and was pressed half over him.

There was still alcohol in Zhao Yunlan’s breath, but his eyes were clear. He met Shen Wei’s eyes and asked softly, “What are you doing, your eminence?”

Shen Wei opened his mouth but no sound came out, too awkward too answer.

Zhao Yunlan looked at him for a moment, an indecipherable expression in his eyes, then suddenly reached up and softly squeezed Shen Wei’s chin. “I always thought your eminence a gentlemen. Who knew you kiss secretly in the middle of the night, and such an unprofessional kiss, too.”

Then Shen Wei heard his muffled laughter.

Until Zhao Yunlan kissed him, Shen Wei remained stunned. He thought he was in a ridiculous and marvelous dream. Helpless, he embraced Zhao Yunlan’s body. (note: yes, it does read ‘his body’, not just the name)

That man’s kiss was skilled, sensual and tantalizing, and minimum effort was enough was to render Wei weak and confused, utterly vanquished.

Then Zhao Yunlan lifted himself up slightly. The two were most touching noses. Shen Wei heard Yunlan say softly: “Professional standards would at least be like this.”

Wei was speechless.

Two buttons of Yunlan’s collar were undone, exposing the long graceful arc of his collarbone, sending off traces of cologne. A whiff stoppered all of Shen Wei’s words. He couldn’t tell who was the one inebriated.

Zhao Yunlan sighed and reached out to brush aside the messy fringe on Shen Wei’s forehead. “Let me ask you something. You’ve been hiding from me for a while but refused to stay hidden, was it because you knew me from a long long time ago and wronged me, or are you worried that man and ghoul do not share the same destiny?”

Shen Wei, shocked, became alert. He pushed him away and sat up. The flush on his face faded and the hands by his side tightened.

Zhao Yunlan moved sideways, half-leaned against the bed, and pulled at Shen Wei’s hand, opening up his fist a little at a time. “You always fight with yourself. If it’s the first reason, then I’m saying this now, whatever happened, there’s no debt between us. If you don’t mention it, I won’t remember. As for the second....isn’t the second reason a moot point? Even a living person will die.....maybe one day I-”

Shen Wei covered his mouth.

They looked at each other for a while but finally Shen Wei slowly shook his head.

Zhao Yunlan sighed and got out of the bed. He seemed clear-headed and articulate, so who knew his step would be so unsteady. He sat down hard on the floor. He held his head in his hands and complained. “F-ck, ten bees are buzzing in front of me.”

Shen Wei came to help him up. “I thought you aren’t drunk. Are you hurt?”

Zhao Yunlan’s was in that curious state of consciousness where he could think logically but could not walk in a straight line, otherwise he wouldn’t have had the courage to be so frank.

He shook his head, crouched down and pulled out the drawer from the bedside table, he drew out a plastic file folder from the bottom and dropped it in front of Wei. “Open it.”

Shen Wei hesitated, but he opened it and found a deed tucked inside, a single family home with a yard near Dragon City College’s college road…a substantially large investment, no wonder Zhao Yunlan seemed so poor recently.

Zhao Yunlan stopped smiling and leaned against the bedside drawer, stretching out his legs in front. He raised his head and took out a cigarette from his pocket.

He remained silent for the length of a cigarette before speaking, voice low. “I had the deed transferred before we went to the Snowy Mountain. Originally I was thinking, commute would be easy there, it’s quite a nice neighborhood, and it happens to be next to Dragon College, if you were willing to move in with me, then you wouldn’t have to drive to work. You could even get up later. Next year, I’ll try to transfer the SID over as well. The house is quite big, likely too big for two people, but then you can keep a large study. You would be able to bring students home and I could invite friends over....I thought of having a big stupid dog as well, and occasionally get it to fight with Da Qing, like a Cat vs. Dog New Years movie....”

Shen Wei’s hand couldn’t help shaking. The plastic folder rustled.

Zhao Yunlan laughed quietly. “Who knew after trip from the Great Northwest, I would discover that it’s for Your Eminence-- you can move from east to west side of the city in the blink of an eye. Why would you need to drive? To get up early? I wouldn’t have bothered had I known. Now I almost don’t have enough for New Years because of that poor little place.” (Note: ;_; )

Shen Wei lowered his head and met his eyes and only thought that man had always looked at him that way. Without the teasing, only deep affection remained, just a fleeting piece captured was enough to drown a man. (note: this is a mixed metaphor in Chinese as well)

Wei thought he was splitting in two. Half of him was so happy that he could fly, but the other half was sunk deep beneath the waters of the underworld. For a moment, he thought he was going mad.

Millenia of solitude had not driven him insane, but two sentences from that man, casually spoken, was enough to stir his emotions to a storm.

No wonder the sages say: with love the living may die and the dead can live. only when love is not enough, the living cannot be with the dead and dead cannot live.

Yet with the soul in disarray, who knew the hour or the year?

A lot of people believe in luck and lucky numbers.

However, when it comes to lottery numbers and my System, there's no mumbo jumbo like numerology or fortune telling.

The System either works scientifically to beat the odds or it doesn't.

And that's what I base my success on:

Science.

But there is an area I believe in every very strongly which has a big impact on your lottery success.

There's nothing scientific about it, but it works.

It's the power to achieve what you want through desire, using triggers in your goal-seeking.

Simply this - you concentrate daily on a goal, no matter how extreme, and you achieve it.

The triggers to make this work are:

Writing your goal down daily.

Using pictures or models to make the dream real.

Why these actions work so powerfully when applied to winning the lottery is easily explained like this.

The lottery prize is at the top of a ladder...

You simply need the resilience to keep climbing each rung - playing your tickets - until you reach the top.

Most people don't have the mental strength to carry on climbing after repeated failure.

When they expect a fortune - but get only a handful of dollars, week after week - they easily get discouraged.

I've found it's always best to use an experience like a trip, or real objects like a car or house as the trigger, not the cash amount.

And make it without a time limit.

Let it happen to you. There are some things you can't force.

I know it sounds open-ended and you have bills to pay and things you want, but that's the way I found it works.

No mumbo jumbo, just plain focus, and persistence.

After you have written your goals daily, placed photos on your fridge door and on your computer screen, got immersed with positive reading like this blog, and.take action.

So, let's get more sales people on social media, you say? It's not that simple ... read on.

'Brink of distrust'?

These latest insights puts immense pressure on every organizations' leadership team and sales managers to reinvent and refocus the way that their teams (product, engineering, business development, account managers, customer service staff etc) engage with their clients by moving away from just product and price to more value-added discussions around perspectives on the market, advice on pitfalls and alternatives as well potential issues and outcomes.

10 pm

“Don’t forget your mask,” I call out to my husband without looking away from my screen. I’m in the middle of fighting an elite mob in World of Warcraft. I should know better than to play in the busiest part of our evening, but boredom has led me to do anything I can to keep from going insane being stuck in the house for seven months now. Killing things on video games is highly therapeutic. “Thanks,” comes the reply. My husband has ADD, while he doesn’t need medication, he is very forgetful. Especially when he’s rushing because it’s five minutes to his bus. The mask mandate isn’t the only reason he’s vigilant about always having one. Both me and our son are in the highest risk group. We both have prior lung damage and high blood pressure. He’s a night auditor at a small chain of high end motels, so he regularly works with the public. He calls out ‘Love you’ to everybody in the house one by one. Me, our son, and the two cats. “Love you, be safe,” I reply. Pooky, our 12 year old manx, has already claimed his desk chair for the night as he closes the door and locks the dead bolt. Really, 10pm isn’t all that different on the surface than it was before the crisis. At a quarter til, my husband prepares our son’s tube feeding, and feeds him. I try to help out as much as I can, often giving him his medicine. But I cut my heel a few days ago and can’t put any weight on that foot. So I am mostly just supervising. Once feeding is done, our son is sent to the bathroom to brush his teeth and change the pad around his stoma to keep it clean. While he does that, my husband gets ready for work. I call out reminders the entire time. Feed the cats, is your watch charged, don’t forget your mask. Our son brings my husband the cat food dishes to be washed and refilled. He puts them back where they belong and then goes to power down his computer and gather up his supplies for bedtime. Even though he’s eighteen and his online classes don’t start until 10am, he needs twelve hours a of sleep. So when Dad leaves for work, he goes to bed. What’s different is that our son isn’t getting up and going to his job training program in person. He hasn’t been out of the house since mid-February except for a Covid test and one follow up. He had mono before the pandemic began and still really hasn’t completely recovered. He has to be even more tired of being home than I am. He needs a haircut. I need a haircut. But it’s too dangerous for us even with cases dropping. I’m worried about my mother, who lives alone. She’s also in the highest risk group and with everything going on, I’m not sure how long she can endure this without breaking down. No visitors, my nephew’s at college in NYC. Another niece lives in Wisconsin. She’s Chinese American. Even I’m worried about her with Trump’s incessant racism about Covid. We did pretty well. The safety net caught us. We only missed one rent payment and it will not be hard to catch that up. My husband got this new job the day after he applied for it. We have high speed internet and a desktop for my son. We’re having less trouble with Microsoft Teams than most of his classmates. We’re fine. But the rest of the country around us is on fire. Literally in some cases. Wildfires up an down the West coast have made the air outside dangerous for the chronically ill. Not that any of us can go anywhere because of the pandemic. I can smell smoke even with the windows shut. We have air conditioning, but not everybody in the city does. We’re fine, but so many people aren’t. I watch too much news, read too many articles about everything. I know I shouldn’t, but I have to know. I can’t just stick my head in the sand and pretend because everything is fine for me, it’s fine. It is not fine. None of this is fine. I’m not fine, but I’m not worried about me. I’m worried about everyone else. About our country. Because there’s nothing I can do. I can barely walk across my apartment. 10pm around here hasn’t changed much. More things to keep track of, more little things to keep track of. Masks, gloves, wash your hands. Little things that make all of the difference. Little things that hint at the greater problems going on outside my quiet home. It doesn’t look on the surface like we’ve been affected, but just beneath it, our lives are still in turmoil.

Five Gmail features to get you out of your inbox and back to work

Despite being the central hub for most of our work, email can be a real productivity killer. Everyone is vying for your attention at all hours of the day, and that little unread icon taunts you until you give in and re-open your inbox to see what’s happening. This, of course, interrupts the flow of your actual job.

I’m a slave to the notification icon as much as anyone. In an ideal world, I’d learn to keep pushing forward and deal with email when I actually have time between other tasks. But that’s not as easy as it sounds. So instead of changing my own behavior, I’ve forced my inbox to do things my way so I spend less time emailing and more time working. Gmail has been a great ally in this, and the platform’s steady stream of new features has given me ever-increasing power to bend my inbox to my will.

Snooze unimportant emails for later

Despite the advice of productivity experts, my inbox doubles as a to-do list. (Hey, I’m not the only one.) It just works for me: unread emails act as a constant reminder that something requires action, and since I check my email regularly, I never forget about those tasks. One unread email reminds me that I need to reply to a client when they have questions, and another reminds me that I need to go get my car’s oil changed. I’ll even email myself to remind myself of certain to-dos.

Not all of these tasks require an immediate response, though, and having them sit unread in my inbox nags at me. Plus, they make it harder to see the urgent stuff that’s mixed in. For that, Gmail’s Snooze button has become my new best friend: just hover over the message in question and click the little clock icon that appears to the right. Snoozing banishes a message from your inbox until a time you specify—say, tomorrow morning when you have free time to schedule an appointment with the mechanic—so you can keep things clean and anxiety-free.

Schedule emails to send at the most opportune time

Dealing with email as it comes in is rarely a productive use of your time. It’s better to batch a few email sessions—say, once every couple of hours—and knock everything out in a single chunk. That way, you aren’t constantly interrupting your momentum with an unrelated task.

The problem is, it’s hard to time those inbox sessions perfectly for every email. Maybe it’s Friday afternoon, and I’d rather send a message Tuesday morning when it won’t get buried over the weekend. Or maybe an email isn’t relevant until next week, but I want to get it all down while it’s on my mind. Gmail’s Schedule button lets you write the email when you want and schedule it to send later—so it arrives precisely when you mean it to.

Stop wasting your time on typing

It may seem silly to say that “writing email is a waste of time,” but in the age of automation, it’s true. Gmail has a number of features that can help you draft messages more quickly, so you can get back to doing actual work.

Templates have been around for ages, though they used to be known as “canned responses.” These allow you to save certain blocks of text that you use often and insert them into any email with a few clicks. For example, you could use them to enter your address, or ship off a form response to a question you get asked every day.

You can create a template by opening a new message, typing the text you want to save, clicking the three dots on the right of the Compose bar, selecting Templates, and then saving that draft as a template. Then, when crafting a reply to an email, you can go to that same menu to insert text from any template. (Advanced users may prefer system-wide software like PhraseExpress, which lets you type those templates even faster with a keyboard shortcut.)

Smart Compose is a new-ish feature that you probably already know about because it’s enabled by default: it predicts what it thinks you’re about to type and shows the rest of the sentence in grey text. You can press Tab to complete the prediction, and keep on typing. If you disabled this feature when it first came out—I get it, it’s distracting—you should give it another shot. Once you get used to it, it’s amazing how quickly you can breeze through some messages.

Finally, Gmail recently started allowing multiple signatures, so you can switch between different sign-offs based on who you’re emailing. It’s rolling out slowly, but you can click the gear and head to Settings > Signature to see if you have it. Once you create multiple signatures, just click the pen icon in a Compose window to switch between them.

Mute distracting email threads

I have friends and family that like to start long, multi-person email threads sharing silly jokes, political debates, or other time-wasting nonsense. Unfortunately, there’s no way to leave a thread completely without nagging someone to move you to BCC. But Gmail offers the next-best thing: the Mute feature, which prevents the thread from showing up in your inbox when new messages arrive.

To mute a thread in Gmail, right-click on it and choose Mute—that’s it. Further messages will still be marked as unread, but they’ll skip the inbox altogether and enter the bowels of your All Mail tab, never to be seen unless you search for them. (That way, you can catch up on those threads later, if you want—and you can even unmute them if they become relevant.)

Pause your inbox to stop the barrage of notifications

When muting a thread isn’t enough, it’s time to mute your entire inbox.

You could just close your email tab, but chances are you actually need access to some of your old messages for your work. In that case, you need a Gmail add-on called Inbox Pause. We mentioned Inbox Pause in our list of the best Gmail add-ons—check that story out when you’re done here—but it works like this: install the Boomerang extension and you’ll see a big Pause button on Gmail’s left sidebar. Click it whenever you need to stop incoming messages. You can still let certain senders through, though, if you’re expecting something urgent.

If you’d rather not install a third-party extension for this job, there are some other workarounds that may help. You can use Gmail offline, for example—just head to Settings > Offline and check the Enable box—which will let you view your email even when you’re completely disconnected from the web. (Of course, this only works if you don’t need the rest of the internet for your work).

You could also use a third-party email client like Thunderbird or Apple Mail. Even if you don’t want to use a desktop client all the time, you can add your Gmail account, then open the client and put it in offline mode whenever you want some peace. That way, you can keep using the web while your email stays frozen in an offline state. Just head to Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding > POP/IMAP to enable IMAP access—that’s what allows those desktop programs to access your email. Then you can go ahead and log into your email app of choice.
