Definitely getting nitpicky here, but I really hate it when people say that Sue bullied Carrie her entire life. Like NO! Sue's whole thing is that she fell into the trap of inaction and complacency!

She's an otherwise decent person who got caught up in something ONCE and ultimately led herself down a path of pain and destruction. Her character shows that everyone-- no matter how good we think we are-- is capable of cruelty.

Her character shows that sometimes you ARE too late to do the right thing, and when that happens you'll spend the rest of your life either despairing or trying desperately to make up for it.

This is why I hate it when adaptations depict her as being besties with Chris; It totally takes away from the moral her character presents. In the novel, Chris and Sue were hardly even cordial. Sue wasn't really involved in anything prior to the Shower Incident. Everyone including herself is surprised when she participates in that mess because it was so unusual for her.

She wasn't a bully, but her inaction, much like the rest of Chamberlain, allowed for horrific abuse. Which then led to disaster.

Like by all means, criticize Sue all you want! But at least do it correctly!!!

none of you are talking abt whiskey which truthfully is such a damn shame. she was introduced and i thought she was just supposed to be the dumb blonde girlfriend - arm candy. but then she ran into helen and we immediately see how badly she wants to do more, but she feels trapped to go along with what duke does in order to build her future. shes also the only person to look at helen, who she believes is andi, and say thats shes sorry, that she was fucked over and didnt deserve what happened. dont look at me and say this character wasnt fucking fantastic

When your father tried his best to provide for you but he worked all the time and even when he was home he was either tired or stressed and he’s always liked to get drunk to relax and cheer up. When you know he values work ethics and respectability so you grew up to be capable and quiet. And when he says you’re like him you’re sort of puzzled, does he really know you so little, or does he know himself so little? But you like the feeling of your father ruffling your hair so you accept it, and still you stand next to your mother just as silent and just as stoic as her during family gatherings. He leaves again and again and when your mother leaves him nothing changes, really. You wonder if it’s more telling that you know him better than he seems to himself or that you don’t know him as much as you wish you did, or that you don’t think about him all that much these days. I love how kinda shit Tina is with kids it's incredible to me. like she thinks the eggs are adorable and fawns all over them but when it comes to like practical stuff she slips up a lot and freaks about the responsibility. When she's unprepared she's super awkward like when she first met em she spent most of her time overthinking and panicking. Or during the date when Richas started playing pretend with her and Bagi, Bagi adapted pretty quick but Tina had some trouble playing along. And she's hyper aware of to. Shes very insecure about her parenting abilities and swears up and down that her first meeting with Empanda was a garbage fire. She is, however, determined to do better. Shes actively trying to become a better parent and is holding herself to it. I just really like that she's not immediately settling into being a mother. Not everyone immediately acclimates to parenthood and it fits super well for her character.

loved the new acolyte episode. the way it plays with the nuances in the jedi by having indara refuse to get involved bc she wants to do things by the book vs sol who feels this connection to osha, this fear for her well-being and feels that’s more important than any rules. both sides getting angry and paranoid and it leading to aniseya, sol, and torbin reacting emotionally & violently. sol refusing to fight korli because he KNOWS he fucked this up. sol willing to accept the consequences but indara, like sol & the witches, is trying to put this child’s well-being over some arbitrary rule. it’s so good and such a good demonstration of both how the jedi council works to stop conflict and how it is completely unprepared to deal with natural human emotion and error.

and of course, as expected, mae is not The Evil Twin. she sets the fire on accident, it spins out of control, and she’s held into this anger for so long because it’s a justified anger! has it helped her? no! but it’s guarded her heart against the overwhelming grief of losing her entire culture in a moment. and then there’s osha, who has no idea the events she’s set into motion - all she wants is the room to figure out who she is without everyone’s expectations weighing her down!! she’s just a kid!!!!!!

me: what if she's so insecure about her duty of being a best friend that in her efforts to prove she wasn't a fuckup she learns the painful way that she even never knew the first thing about her friend to begin with

she can't name anything pink was interested in or what she liked to do outside of the games spinel played with her

cause spinel never really got to know her (because she was made explicitly as a toy that pink couldn't break and was made by the diamonds who do not know how friendships work (a friend isn't something you create it's a relationship that you develop overtime) except she's also super sheltered and struggles to relate to people outside of the fun and games she's supposed to be facilitating)

and pink never really spent the time to know spinel either (because she was obsessively nonconfrontational and didn't yet see gems below her as capable of being fully realized people, and this was immediately after losing her real friend and she had her walls up pretty high as a result anyways)

mmm the pain of being such a terrible friend that not only were you made to replace a pearl to begin with, your friend had to replace you with another pearl, of all gems

and she was right to, you think, angrily, bitterly

what if she feels an unreal level of guilt about having a near world destroying meltdown and how she tried to kill a kid directly even tho she knew she was never in the right for it. that self destruction forever ruining her chances of becoming friends with the one person kind enough to reach his hand out to you (even tho he really shouldn't have)

do you think that would fuck up all her future encounters beyond a level where she can handle it, do you think in her desperation to be the good friend she needs to be she might repeat her mistakes all over again?

Watching Awakening Parts 4 & 5 is mostly just me waiting for my favorite failwoman to have a bazooka-assisted meltdown on national TV

you know, an interpretation of ct that I don't see that I personally really love is that she's a fuck up. like yes she's cool and she has some good fight scenes, but a huge part of her character is that she makes mistakes. the mistakes that she makes are ones that on their own aren't the end of the world, but she keeps making these little mistakes, and they eventually add up until she's out of room to make any more.

a really good example of this phenomenon in action is the actions she took leading up to her final confrontation with carolina and tex.

strike one, she thought she saw something in the water, but when asked by the leader what it was, she brushed it off as nothing when even if it had been nothing, it would've been smart to tell him what she thought she saw.

strike two, she didn't sense or notice florida's presence when the leader did, and she looks at the leader twice, once as she pulled out her magnums, and again after she did a scan of the room, almost like she was looking at him for guidance before he finds florida and takes him out with one good axe throw.

strike three, she couldn't convince the leader to leave when they had the chance to get away, and her cheap tricks were not enough to hold off either tex or carolina in a fight. they were only good for incapacitating her opponents enough for her to get away, which doesn't work when she has no escape.

ct is not tex, or carolina, or south. she is not a one woman army who can get herself out of trouble when she's stuck in tough situations. she needs people who can watch her back, she need a team who can cover her when she does mess up, and the leader and his team were not those people. she couldn't bring herself to trust them, and they couldn't bring themselves to trust her, and that cost all of them their lives.
