A Character First, A Love Interest Second: RaMona Did It Right!

((A TMNT 2012 RaMona Analysis))

Something I feel we as a fandom don’t give Raph enough credit for is how he’s the only brother to NOT have a “love at first sight” trope with his love interest Mona Lisa, and I feel that says a lot about his character and relationship with her, not only that, but it saves Mona’s character.

How you may ask? A lot of people don’t seem to realize this, but I love how when Mona Lisa is first introduced she’s not immediately established to be a love interest unlike the other girls. Mona is given some time to be her own character and show off a bit of her personality. For the other girls, there introduction is through the Turtles POV, established as a love interest FIRST then her own character/personality is shown later. This is made clear just from each Turtles reaction when first meeting their love interest. We are introduced to the female character through the “love at first sight” moment!

Edit: I timed it to see how long the girls intros were before they were established as a love interest. Here’s the LINK

I wanna clarify before people start assuming, no, I’m NOT saying that the other 2012 girls have no personality. They do, it just bothers me how they were introduced. Them being the love interest seemed more important to establish to the writers then her own character first.

Meanwhile for Mona Lisa; she’s introduced to the audience NOT the Turtles. This gives her a chance to establish her character/personality first then show her as a love interest later!

We learn just from her introduction scene and even her moment when confronting the Turtles that she is: strong willed, prideful (she’s proud of being the warrior she is and takes her battle’s seriously), stubborn (fight first, ask questions NEVER, like Raph), honorable, loyal (we learn she’s a lieutenant and respects and highly looks to her Commander), and even a bit short tempered (again, like Raph).

Her and Raph even get to speak to each other and have a little banter of threats before romance between them starts to blossom. There is no love at first sight. Unlike the other Turtles who immediately fall in love with the girl just from looking at her and thinking she’s pretty. Their feelings for each other took more time.

Raph did not fall for her looks like his brothers, he fell in love with the person Mona is. Physical attraction (I believe) is very important in a relationship and Raph does show and admits he does in fact find Mona attractive (Ex: calling her a beautiful work of art) but her looks is not what caught his attention. It was her personality, her spirit and capabilities as a warrior! I saw someone mentions this in another post once, but on rare occasions do we get to hear the other Turtles explain exactly WHY they like their love interests other then that they found the girl pretty (Yes, Donnie admits he thinks April is “cool” and Leo says Karai’s “fun” but that’s not enough!), meanwhile for Raph from the very beginning he has his list of reasons ready as to WHY he likes Mona! And he has no shame to admit it proudly!

And throughout the rest of their relationship, we see more of those reasons unfold. We see Raph and even Mona show more reasons as to why they love each other so much. And unlike the others ships, we actually get to see them act and be a couple! They flirt with each other, embrace and hold hands, make out, write love letters to each other, etc. The reason they worked so well is because as I said we get to see them be a couple, but also because Mona got to established herself as a character first before being Raph’s girlfriend.

Many of us can agree that TMNT 2012 failed greatly in the romance department, but they at least did one couple right with the relationship of Raphael and Mona Lisa. So I thank them for that <3

This is my own design inspired by a few different sources, mainly the action figure and tournament fighters' boxart and his in game sprite. There's a LOT more TMNT dragons than I think you realize, so dont be surprised if I do another one later

Are we sharing cool AUs with you? (I didn't find any post where you asked but I saw you received a lot of asks like that)(feel free to ignore it if you want)

One of my favorites TMNT AUs is a 2003/2007 AU in which Shredder manages to kidnap Mikey and decide to test out the mind worms/mind control again, except this time to make sure that it sticks he also decides to take Mikey's memories beforehand.

Except Mikey's memories are taken (and put in a special container) but then there's a problem in the foot clan and Mikey escapes before being mind controlled.

Meanwhile, Raph and Don are furiously trying to find Mikey. (Leo is in a different country, training)

Skip to a few months later, Raph and Don still believe that the Foot clan has Mikey (and nobody wants to tell them otherwise) while Mikey went abroad to furiously destroy foot clan bases and try to track down his memories.

That's when Leo and Mikey see each others. Mikey is annoyed by this mutant who interrupts him to lecture him about safety and to interrogate him on what he's doing here. Worse, he gave him orders and expected him to follow.

(He knows that they may have known each other before, but he made the mistake of believing Karai when she told him about his past and it was a trap, he's not making this mistake again. That's why he needs to quickly find his memories, that way he'll be able to go back to whoever he's missing so much.)

Leo is terrified, he doesn't understand at all what Mikey was doing at a foot clan base on what looked like a really dangerous mission, and alone. Worse, his little brother refused to speak to him. What the hell could he have missed while he was studying?

So Leo buys a phone and calls Raph and Donnie. They are mortified to find out that Mikey is so far from where they were looking (they did leave the USA to look for him but he traveled a lot and they were looking on the wrong side of the globe).

So Leo, Raph and Donnie need to find Mikey, understand why he hasn't come home and drag him there by force if he keeps endangering himself.

I just wanted to ask, clarify, and/or talk about some things:

So first, there are the ages posts, one, has Leo be 22, and Mikey being 19, I think. I can't remember Raph and Donnie's ages, but I do remember Donnie and Raph were between Leo and Mikey in age I think. And I even think Donnie was the 2nd oldest? Which is/was cool! And/or interesting.

But now, u have the updated age post, and all the turtles are (Leo, Donnie, Mikey, and Raph that is. And Lita) are six now. And I gotta admit, I liked Leo being the eldest, and by 3 years when compared to Mikey. Since I see him as such an ultimate big bro/as the ultimate big brother. Oh well; I can still think of him like that if I want to, he defin. acts like the ultimate big brother (be it eldest and/or a just a big brother (too), and u originally had him as 22 in that other post as well.

I am also guessing in their past lives Leo may have been the oldest, than Donnie, then Raph, then Mikey? Hence where u may have gotten the ages somewhat in that other ages post?

Also, them as turtles is 6 (I think that is what u meant?)? But mutant-wise, biology?-wise, and mentally wise they are late teens and/or early-ish 20's, correct? Just to clarify?

Also; I hope they are aging normally now!

(Sorry for all the questions and stuff, this stuff just has me a bit confused).

Mutant age is weird in IDW TMNT! The way animals are mutated it's like they instantly turn into adults with language skills and full cognition or whatever, as opposed to other TMNT incarnations where they mutate more gradually and age the way humans do. It makes pinpointing the Turtles' ages (and Alopex, Splinter, etc.) difficult and confusing. So yeah, when I listed their ages in that first post, I meant biologically (late teens) rather than chronologically (just a few years). Also I think the way Tom Waltz was writing the mutation it was like the characters' experience as animals was taken into account as to what their age, physicality, and cognitive level would be upon mutation (like Hob was an older cat, for example, so when mutated, his "cat years" were translated into the equivalent of human years which meant he ended up as a 30-something adult). And that's not even taking into account the psychotropic serum which would bestow human-level intelligence on a mutant, like when Slash was first mutated he was very animalistic but then when he later got the serum, it gave him instant adult-level intellect. Early in the series there was something about the serum splintering the animal's consciousness from their natural instincts (where Splinter gets his name from) but I'd have to go back and read that first arc again, it's been a while. Tom, why did you make this so confusing?!? ;)

I got the different ages from what my former editor Bobby Curnow's headcanon was, I based them off that and how the Turtles looked in their past lives like you said, yeah. And yep they are all mentally, cognitively, physically, biologically late teens, they don't actually act like 6-year-olds or anything like that. ;) And I think you're right that they (and other animal-born mutants) would be aging normally now.

This is all complicated by the fact that we're not actually allowed to give the characters specific ages in the comic, so technically and canonically the Turtles are eternally late teens, the way other comic characters like Batman or Spider-Man never actually age despite time seeming to pass within their respective universes. @_@ So I guess my original answer to the age ask is non-canon, since those ages will never actually be confirmed in the comic. I hope that all makes sense!

Hello! I'm passing by with an opportunity to ramble if you'd like! :D I know you like Raph - what about Raph as a character appeals to you (any or all versions)? Do you have favorite Raph moments or episodes? Out of the other turtles, who do you enjoy Raph's dynamic with the most?

Yes, I would actually like to do that. Thank you much!! I've been wanting to post and write more now that classes are done, and this was a helpful kick-start. A little too helpful, some might say. Very long post ahead.

What about Raph as a character appeals to you (any or all versions)?

Honestly, liking Raph took me by complete surprise. Growing up on 12 and getting back into my TMNT fixation with Rise, Leo and Donnie were my favorite turtles by far. But then I decided to watch as much as I could in chronological order. 87 Raphael was not at all what I expected, and I immediately loved him. He's hilarious and exudes the kind of sarcasm I can only aspire to. And as I began watching and rewatching shows and movies, I realised a lot of them have this dry wit that appeals to my sense of humor.

Raphs also go through so much crap internally and externally, and I'm a sucker for angst. Plus, it's so important to me that no matter how much they struggle, no one gets and loves them so well as their family. Maybe a weird example, but I love Mr. Nice Guy (1987), in which Donatello's Personality Alterator gets turned on him accidentally, and the other three freak out and send him to therapy. Like it's a silly situation, but the fact that they clock something's really wrong in the way he's not acting like himself and get him help is heartwarming.

Had a good laugh earlier this week at the realisation that most Raphs are particularly sweet on kids, old blind folks, and animals. Followed a couple of days later by the thought, duh, these populations are particularly vulnerable to abuse and harm, so of course, a Raph is going to be protective of them.

Also, sai are so cool, what the heck. Can't believe I was obsessing over katana as a kid when sai are right there. With my limited understanding, they may not always be shown correctly in TMNT? But they're truly very neat weapons, and sai kata are cool to watch.

90s Raph and Casey's first fight ("Cricket! Nobody understands cricket. You gotta know what a crumpet is to understand cricket"), then he goes home and curls up with Splinter to cry about getting his butt kicked by Some Dude. He's quite the daddy's boy in the 90s.

Raph's voice is unfairly gorgeous in Coming Out of Their Shells. I straight up clutched my heart the first time I heard it

Mikey: Tell 'em Raph! Raph: It isn't burgers or french fries that work for turtles of our size

I love this silly line entirely because of his voice and delivery. He's also fun to watch on stage. One of my favorite bits is this backward skip he does when he sings, "And moving backwards is a crying shame!"

The one where Venus gets her name

TNM Leo: Hey, Venus! Uh, what's with the statue head? TNM Raph: Hahaha! She won it in the park, slaying bad guys.

After the TNM gang saves a baby turtle from a poacher, Raph gets on the floor to be at eye level with her

Raph: You know what, you're kinda cute for such an ugly little thing. I'm you're Uncle Raph~ You wanna go for a ride in my hog? Ayo, Donnie! Can you make her a teeny tiny helmet?

And then Donnie teases him while everyone stares, so he gets offended (read: embarrassed), and Leo teases him harder, and he gets even more offended.

Just thinking about the beginning of Meet Casey Jones (2003) makes me tear up.

The almost as funny successor

12 Donnie: She's the most beautiful girl I've ever seen 12 Raph: Isn't she the only girl you've ever seen? 

As a fellow biggest sibling, Rise Raph in Pizza Puffs is such a mood. Also love the scene where he eats his phone in Mystic Library.

Out of the other turtles, who do you enjoy Raph's dynamic with the most? 

87 Raphael and Donatello's dynamic is very important to me. In my heart, they're twins. Some of my favorite episodes are the ones where they pair off or take the same side of a team argument: Splinter Vanishes, The Big Blow Out, Back to the Egg, Dirk Savage: Mutant Hunter, Combat Land, Cry H.A.V.O.C.!, etc. I also love this line from My Brother, the Bad Guy

Raphael: Okay, this is the point at which we get squashed like bugs, or! turn to Donatello for help. R+M+L: DONATELLO! 

Coming Out of Their Shells Sunset Duo are the besties everrrrr. Mikey raps a whole verse in Cowabunga about how Raph is his best friend and they wrote all of the music together and that is like the most epic thing ever and I love their energy and how they play off each other on stage and they love each so much I can't– 

TNM Raph and Venus!! The siblings ever, truly. So much sass. They are both overprotective of each other. They're literally the best.

03 Sunset Duo will never not be funny. Raph can be tricked into verbally affirming he loves Mikey when he thinks one or both of them are about to die. Raph is also incredibly distraught about Mikey possibly and then actually winning the Battle Nexus Tournament. Peak comedy and siblinghood.

07 Raph and Leo quite possibly make me feral. "Is he kiddin'? He's lecturing." I still can not believe he didn't know Raph was Nightwatcher. For so many reasons, but especially because some of his initial comments in that fight are pointed. I always wonder if, on some unconscious level, he did know. And then Raph goes through a battery of emotions with the katana breaking and pinning Leo and then running and all the screaming, gosh. Leo, too. They're so similar it hurts.

I also love 12 Sunset Duo, but I think I love the A-Team a little more. Honestly, their interactions remind me so much of my siblings and I. Pushing each other's buttons so hard, then taking over the world together. Actively trying to kill each other, but minutes later, they're professing their undying love. So much ganging up on their little siblings. Leo gets adorably excited with him sometimes ("Look, Raph, mouser-kebabs!"), and Raph is frequently going, how are we related??? ("Halt? Villain?? When did we start talking like that?!" and "Dude, it literally hurts to listen to you sometimes"). Favs.

Disability Showdown Full Bracket

Alright! No more mystery, we've got our list for the tournament!

For people new to this tournament, how this works is this: We narrowed our character list down from about 600 to 131 (it was gonna be 128 but we had three ties, so those have been reworked into three-character polls). The top 64 have been seeded into the bracket by number of nominations. The bottom 67 however, all got roughly the same amount of nominations, so those have been assigned places via random number generator, to remove any bias that I the poll runner may have about which characters I want to succeed

(I am so sorry if your obscure blorbo ends up against a super popular kid in round one, that's unfortunately the luck of the draw here, but I am keeping a record of characters that lose but whose fans fight the hardest for them, and we may do something with those kids later, so it's still worth campaigning for your faves!)

I will make an image for the bracket once we get past the first round or two, but right now I have no idea how to make a visual bracket containing 131 characters, upload it to tumblr, and still have it be at all useful

Donnie and Raph

The Raph and Donnie dynamic is very important for any tmnt and 2003 does it so well.

Raph is so protective of Donnie. There are probably dozens of posts that say it as well as it can be said. Just watch any episode. Nobody lays a finger on or says a word against Donnie that doesn’t have to deal with Raph.

But why is he so protective of Donnie specifically? He jumps in front of Leo and Mikey too at different times, but it’s obvious he’s especially watching out for Don. This may be partially just out of necessity. The writers kind of made Don a weaker ninja (not physically less strong, but clumsier ninjitsu), otherwise he would be way OP being the tech guy and a ninja. (He still is kind of OP.) The brothers are all pretty close in skill but if there is one who needs someone to watch his back in a fight more than the other guys, it’d be Donnie. So is that it?

I choose not so. Raph has so much confidence in Donnie, not just his smarts but specifically his fighting. Look at the H.A.T.E. episode; Raph talks him into jumping from one moving car to another. And when Donnie finishes and just says “Raph, get down,” not explaining till later that he removed the Plutonium core, Raph is expecting an entire nuclear explosion and he just lets his little bro body block him. He’s pretty chill considering. Then in the ninja tribunal arc, when Donnie is able to tap into his mystic powers, he’s shocked and ecstatic and the first thing he does is look at Raph, who isn’t shocked at all. He just gives him a nod like “see I told you. Are you as proud of yourself as I am of you yet?”

So maybe it’s that he knows they need Donnie? He is the one who gets the most excited about weapons and vehicles, he’s probably thought about the fact that Donnie is the reason they’ve had those. But that doesn’t really fit Raph. He’s not the strategist, he makes decisions based mostly on emotion.

So he is emotionally attached to Donnie in particular. Probably because Donnie is the one who most openly looks up to him. When Raph helps out Mikey or Leo in battle, their focus still stays on the battle. Sure, they’ll holler a thank you. But look at Donnie’s face every time Raph jumps in front of him or yells at him to watch his back. Look at his face. Wouldn’t he be your favorite brother, too?

I think their mutual admiration has a lot to do with their opposite strengths. Raoh is impulsive, aggressive, but proactive and reliable. Donnie is flexible and resourceful, also passive and kind of unpredictable. Donnie helps Raph stay calm in an emergency. Raph helps Donnie stay focused and grounded in reality.

They also just bond over causing chaos together. Total enablers, both of them.

I’ll get into favorite moments because there will be a lot

Raph: I hate bugs!

Donnie: From the look of things you also hate (everything Raph accidentally broke) (it were an accident) (seriously Donnie can be such a bully sometimes—)

Raph: It really pisses me off.

Donnie, with The Fondest expression: Raph, everything pisses you off.

Raph: Not everything! … Okay, everything.

Raph, about football mascots: What about something more reptilian?

Donnie: The Turtles? Sadly the lowly turtle has been saddled with the stereotype of being velocity-challenged.

Raph: … say what. (No literally Donnie he doesn’t know what you said—)

Them playing video games together, forcing Mikey to give them a turn because he hasn’t in forever. You can just imagine the lead up. “Raphie, no one is paying attention to me.” “Hey don’t worry we’re gonna play that new game you were talking about tonight.” “There’s no way, Mikey always plays. He always plays.” “Oh yeah? Oh yeah?”

Raph: Those bozos May be tough, but Donnie here learned to drive in New York City.

(He offered to drive earlier. He does not trust Don’s driving but he still gets into the car—or completely unknown vehicle—with him every time.)

When Donnie yells at them for accidentally throwing a frisbee at him and instead of snapping back Raph and Leo are both like, Hey baby bro are you okay? Have you been sleeping enough? Do you wanna talk about what’s been bothering you? Leo is precious here too but that’s how he always handles things, Raph is being soft specifically for Donnie

WHAM BAM DIVING INTO MY OCS LORE THIS TIME ITS LONGER SO HERES SOME THINGS I WANNA MENTION BEFORE GETTING INTO IT(NOT ALL OF MY OCS WILL BE MENTIONED HERE)

1-Though they all may come from different universes they all know eachother due to multiversal travel.

2-I have made up certain species/things for some characters, if you have questions about them feel free to ask

3-I made a post covering Maxie and Stella in a way that gets most of their story across, so I will only be covering everyone besides them, if you want more of Stella and Maxie I will give you more, just ask.

4-Some smaller details might change later as I'm still working out stories for some characters

5-Theres a little inspiration from almost every fandom I've been interested in/actually in (TSBS, TMNT, LMK, etc) so if something sounds familiar thats likely why

6-My characters are unrealistically tall so most have the ability to alter their height if it's beyond a humans ability to be how tall they are.

7-Most characters have complex relationships that I'm not sure how to write all that well, so excuse me if I explain it horribly

Let's get into it :D

Raegen Caballero aka Radioactive :

Raegen Canallero was mentioned in my last post, to sum up their backstory, the non-humans and humans in his universe had a war where the humans flat out took the non-humans to scientific research facilities for testing, Raegen was a victim of this type of abdution, earning him the name Radioactive for the Radioactive poisoning his breath caused to humans. Raegen works for an organization called the Elements, which, obviously, consists of people with Elemental abilities, Raegan oddly being favored in this organization due to their awe inducing slight of hand and special abilities. Raegen wears a belt that has two drills attached to it with cords, making it easier for him to break into buildings. Raegen is often seen wearing a cropped jacket with shorts and blue boots, with, of course, the belt and some gloves. His eyes are green, and ones radioactive green with a lime colored pupil, the other eye is a deep dull green color with a blue pupil. Raegen is in a friend circle with their (before mentioned) sibling they lost. They just don't know it yet. If you want a good feel of his character, try to associate with him with "Drift away" from SU. Raegen is very easily manipulated, being forced to stay in a facility for a good portion of their development years. His name means "King(R) Soldier(C)". His hands are calloused from climbing, grabbing, and often touching rough surfaces. They live in the woods in a small shack, which is essentially a hide out for them, they keep all their possessions there. His lungs have developed to have a negative reaction to Radon (Radon is a radioactive gas that has no smell, colour or taste. Radon is produced from the natural radioactive decay of uranium, which is found in all rocks and soils. Radon can also be found in water. Radon escapes from the ground into the air, where it decays and produces further radioactive particles.) Which causes them to pass out soon after inhaling it, which their gas mask filters. Raegen has a lot of knowledge about chemistry and science. Raegens abilities include - Breathing toxic gasses, can consume toxic liquids(his lungs immediately processes it and makes his breath have the same affects/smell/taste as the toxin for a limited amount of time depending on how much of the selected Toxin they drink.), Teleportation, slight super hearing (can hear everything thats about in a 50 foot radius around him), height alteration. Raegen, whenever he has free time, goes to lost to time/dead dimensions and helps the souls in there pass on to the afterlife, allowing the dimension to finally Decay and the souls to Finally rest. Raegen once found an alive child in a dying dimension, and helped them out, giving them to Maxie and Stella in secret.

Celeste Kanth Novaflare :

Celeste is Maxie and Stella's biological daughter. She's about sixteen and helps around the casino at times, not being allowed to stay in the heart floor for long amounts of time. Celeste looks like both her parents in equal parts, her main color is blue, being a mix of green(maxie) and purple(stella). Celeste has abilities she hasn't yet learned to control, so she refrains from using them. Celeste knows how to use a bow and arrow. Celeste has a passion in Ballet and performing, both her parents attend all her Ballet performances. Celeste has the same half space type of face Stella has, with the constellations instead being blue but still connecting to make a spider web around the eye. Celeste's abilities include - Teleportation, elongation of limbs(from maxie), floatation, spawning weapons from the constellations(from Stella), being able to make a person blind for a selected amount of time in turn making them extremely sleepy, being able to spawn a cloud to ride on and or use for transportation, and being able to spawn limited Portals. Celeste is a eccentric child, being very nice and forgiving which gets them in bad situations at times. Celeste is homeschooled because most schools around wouldn't accept Celeste due to Stella and Maxies track record. Celeste could be called "spoiled", but shes very humble, she loves giving gifts. She's about 6'1 at the moment, she grew quickly which her parents were surprised but quickly adjusted to. Celeste has one best friend called Gelatin. Celeste has curly hair just like Maxies natural hair. Celeste has one green eye with a yellow pupil and one purple eye. Celeste is a germaphobe and is often cleaning or wiping down counters by her own will, cause she knows it's dirty. Celeste realizes if people are trying to manipulate her quickly, and catches it before they can go on. Celeste doesn't have a whole lot of backstory, since she just grew up being homeschooled by her parents and hasn't really experienced anything bad. She's very warm and welcoming to people in the casino.

Alix Caballero aka Lix :

Lix, after experiencing a similar situation to Raegens, was placed in a facility where she was kept against her will, as her abilities developed and she was given minimal amounts of food and water, clothing was white long pants and white long sleeved shirts, she was deprived from human contact and assumed her sibling was dead. After so many years, Lix got a chance to run out and took it. She quickly left the place, burning the walls down as she ran, helping everyone else in the facility escape. Lix eventually evolved to be a Harley-quinn type person. Lix is very sarcastic and rude to most, but at times, she can be funny. Lix's main colors are a light cyan Color, Grey, and black. Alix has naturally brown hair but dyed her hair to have some sections be Ice blue and others being Grey, and putting them up into spikey Buns. Lix's main weapon is a baseball bat, but she also knows a bit of magic next to her abilities she naturally has. Lix has a spikeball tail, she's unsure why it looks how it does, but it's there. Lix's abilities include - Pyrokinesis(blue fire), hypnosis with his voice, able to turn parts of his body/skin into a malubale kind of putty and can shape it into different things, Teleportation, super speed, and Kryokinesis/Cryokinesis(manipulation of ice). Lix talks in a very sarcastic and dramatic voice, mocking people most of the time. Lix has shark-like teeth, which also work like actual Sharks teeth to(grow back after falling out), do at times she'll pull a tooth out for an occasional trick or for scared/horrified reactions. After getting out of the facility, she built up muscle so she could protect herself not only with magic but also with just their general strength. Lix's seclaras have a light tint of blue, and it's noticeable from afar. Lix has visual snow and didn't know it until later on in life when he told some friends about it.

Palin Rockfeller aka Invert :

Palin grew up in a black and white universe, the universe slowly started to gain color(watercolor type colors) as time went on, though once they got the chance to leave the universe they took it, and never went back, due to this, the portal messed with their colors, making half of their body/clothes inverted, anything they wear becomes half inverted and goes back to normal after she takes it off. This didn't affect her much, so she lives with it and usually goes by the name "Invert.". Palin found a handful of friends in this new dimension and met a girl named Lila and her twin named Maya(both are down in this list, Lila is right below palin), Eventually Lila and Palin grew close and started hanging out with only eachother on weekends instead of the two of them with Maya, at some point Palin found Raegen and enjoyed talking to them so eventually added them to their friend group. One day, Palin was going down the street when she heard some screaming. She quickly located where it was from and went down a dim alleyway. This led to her finding Lila's body, She was shot in multiple different parts of her person, Palin took Lila to her place and hoped she could take care of her, since there weren't any local hospitals. Palin eventually realized Lila was going to die if she didn't do something, so Palin attempted to make her into a robot of sorts, but kept her personality and memories in her code, so she wasn't completely different(that's where I'll end the backstory). Palin likes making robots cause she has a passion for design, so she draws in her free time. Palin's abilities include - Being able to split objects into two of itself(one being inverted the other not), short range teleportation, being able to change other people's vision/their vision to see everything with inverted colors, being able to make something the opposite of what it is (eg: medical supplies becoming something that causes harm), being able to visualize words outwardly(like projection, she usually does this when reading stories to children). Palin collects powerful artifacts from across universes and keeps them safe. She has dark brown hair, green eyes, tanned skin, and half of her entire body is inverted.

Lila [Gear] :

Lila grew up in a good home, her parents and both her and her twin sister all were an 'ice family' in their universe, meaning all of them could manipulate ice. Lila's a twin sister to Maya. Some of the few memories she has are of Palin, Maya, and right before her death. Lila had some alteration in code from Raegen to kind of make her a bodyguard robot for Palin. Lila's main weapon is a hammer. Lilas abilities include - Cryokinesis, Super speed, decoding computers (by plugging them into her head), heightened senses, being able to sense when someone's(Mainly when Palin's) in danger, Scanning Wounds/DNA samples and finding how to take care of it/matches for the DNA. Lila has white skin, black hair with a cyan ombre, black & cyan horns, a halo, and black eyes with cyan pupils. Lila has a phobia of Clowns, so she can't hang around Inky for too long until her fear starts getting to her. Lila is like Molten from TSAMS or Jack from TSBS, she'll attack a set target/go after a set target unless Palin (In the TSBS case for this, Moon/Solar) tells her to stop. Lila is quite fond of Raegen, she doesn't remember him but enjoys his company. Lila's code evolves and learns constantly, just like how humans do, so her code can't be permanently hacked cause it's like manipulation to Lila, she'll eventually realize it and leave the person. Lila has a handful of favorite universes to travel to when she needs to clear her mind (Palin's universe, dreamcore-like universes, anything peaceful like that). Lila has artifical lungs and organs, so she can physically get sick, but it's like 10x worse cause her heightened senses cause her to succumb to the sickness more, so she usually acts dramatic and acts like she's going to die when she's sick. Lila loves jazz music and loves dancing. At times, she and Palin will dance to jazz music around the house they own. Lila can adapt parts of her body to become weapons and / or Sheilds, which helps a lot in fights. Lila has a passion for singing and music. She loves giving people vocal training/vocal classes. Lila loves trying to figure out what instruments were used in songs from movies/shows. Most of her main story is in Palin's section, so sorry I can't put it here :,3

Nova Starstruck :

Nova's actual name is flare, but that's been erased from their memories. Nova grew up in a dimension where everyone had shadows over their faces/bodies, making their eyes permanently white and stuck in place. Nova was chosen as a servant for a multiversal creator. They left their original dimension to pursue this job and new life. They go to various dimensions and note down anything they notice or anything important, making up names for the dimensions based on the notes. Nova has gone to various dead dimensions that usually end up in them just walking around for a bit, taking in the amount of Ashes and taking notes about what is there(that hasn't died yet) or what could've been there. Nova's very devoted to her work and tries to avoid making connections to anyone in the universes they visit. Nova dresses like a pastel Clown to make themself somewhat blend in at some points as a street performer. Nova is extremely tall and looms over anything or anyone they meet. Nova has red hair, a shadowed body/face, and white eyes. There are various other versions of Nova, they were one of the two options the Multiversal creator was going to chose, and the creator chose them for one significant difference, the ability for them to leave their life behind easily. Novas abilities include - Height manipulation(on themself), Illusion/Major image/Minor image, teleportation, a remarkably flexible neck(/ref), can know someone's name by looking at them,

Inky Inkwell :

Inky comes from a dimension called Geometricks where everythings made out of shapes. Inky is very docile and not intimidating. Inky carries candy in his pockets to give to children(upset children or just children who want candy). Inky was/is a juggler at their carnival ("Once upon your wildest dreams") and used Shurikens/Ninja stars in their juggling acts (at times also juggling both objects with Party favor in their hands). Inky's abilities include - Telekinesis, Shapeshifting, Teleportation, Disconnecting limbs, Making matter out of nothing, moving molecular structure, electrokinesis, human cloaking(being able to make himself look human). Inky doesn't talk much about his universe but it's suspected by others(Maxie, Nova, etc) that they left it forcefully. Inky looks legitimately like 2d animation when walking around, they dont have any shading though, so he's just flat colors and some outlines. Inky has Tear marks on his face(look at drawing on my profile if u haven't seen it ^^), when he's actually crying the tear marks turn green and yellow. Inky has a gap between their teeth(which are naturally off white). Inkys neck & waist frills are from the universe theyre now in, unlike the rest of their outfit. Inky keeps poloroids of their close friends (Their Carnival friends and Party favor), they haven't managed to get a picture of Nova yet. Inky's human form is pale with green hair and blue eyes. Inky loves the cuphead universe for the rubber hose artstyle it has. Inky has never been seen angry, they're either bored or happy. Inky can consume his juggling shurikens/daggers, it's a trick they've learned from some of the swallowing-sword's people in their old Circus.

Ricin aka John Doe :

It's suspected that he was the cause for his universes death.

Party favor :

Party favor is Inky's closest friend. Party favor is actually a monotonous nightmare-dream eater, though they've stuck around Inky because of the amount of nightmares they have, so Party favor gets to eat nightmares regularly. Party favor has extremely long pointed limbs and a very odd face when in their natural form, the form they're usually in is a compressed version of their form (I might have to draw their monstrous form sometime). Party favor didn't like much of the "Once upon your wildest dreams" crew but tolerated them since Inky got him a kinda-job-sorta at the place. Party favors abilities include - Confetti spawning, Mind manipulation, minor image/Minor illusion, Hallucinations, human cloaking (Same thing as inkys ability). Party favor likes using Sparklers as a distraction at times to get away from people. Party favor doesn't talk about the (now dead) "Once upon your wildest dreams" crew infront of Inky, which they're usually near/around, so they just don't talk about them at all. Party favor has various hats they wear at separate times. Party favors "Eyes" can also be a mouth, the middle of the X is where the mouth pops out of, like a demogorgon sort of.

Jimson aka Clementine :

Ricin is a dead, unidentified body. He died from a workplace accident and fell onto a pipe, busting his head open, before falling into a vat of chemicals, completely burning his skin and Eyeballs out of their sockets, no one was brave enough to get his body out of the vat so they gave him the nickname "Chemical vat John Doe". Ricin is a vengeful spirit and Haunts the company buildings, causing more workplace accidents (which bodies have been identified from), and trying to get people to figure out who he was, it upsets him that he just got the name "John doe" then they went on. Ricin's abilities include - Teleportation, Hallucinations, Portals. Ricin was smoking right before he died, so his spirit has a cigarette in its mouth, the fires unextinquishable. Ricin has purple hair, one green eye, one red eye, slightly tanned skin, and is wearing a black suit with a red tie. Ricin doesn't often make friends with other spirits. He's very rude and reclusive(like EaPs Eclipse!). He consistently tells any new spirits that the police aren't going to find their bodies, and they'll also be known as a John/Jane doe. The only person he sorta gets along with is Jimson(who isn't a spirit, but can see him). Ricin was supposed to get sent to hell, but his spirit escaped, keeping his soul in the factory(that's now been long abandoned [he died in 1920.]). Ricins soul is physically stuck at the factory, he can only go 150 feet away from it before being sucked back to it.

Jimson is a 2d-looking character, similar to Inky, except they're actually 3d. Jimson loves gardens and helps Kaede(an oc that's not on this list) out with his garden! Jimson can see spirits and often helps solve Jane doe/John doe cases, but also is a murderer of sorts. He uses dead bodies he finds for compost. Jimson has a sun mark and a rain-cloud mark under each of his eyes, his eyes are green and his hair is brown, his bangs are a somewhat-pastel indigo, his skin is tanned, and he dresses in overalls, short sleeved shirts, and boots. Jimson is very pushy, which often makes most people steer clear of becoming friends with them. Jimson convinced Ricin to tell them where he died so they could maybe help solve a case (from over 50 years ago? Yeah, good luck, buddy lol), he ended up not being able to help, but he could talk to Ricin better at the factory since Ricin's soul was stuck there, so they talked more. Jimson eventually would find that Ricin can possess an object they have, but I won't talk about that much yet :) Jimson can eat/consume/smell poisonous food/berries/flowers/etc, they have a immunity to it. Jimson quite literally sprouted out of the ground, which is why they have a sprout on their head. Jimson doesn't seem to have a mouth, but when they open their mouth they have teeth like a lamprey(if you guys know what that is, if you don't, Google it, they're pretty metal /pos). Jimsons abilities include - Geokinesis, ghost-seeing/spirit-seeing, being able to consume poisonous things, being able to suck out blood like a Vampire, can sense how far along a plant is to being done growing.

Lydia Summers :

Maya Chrome :

Lydia is the leader of the Elements(the organization Raegen works for). Lydia comes from a Fire family (like in Lilas thing, a fire family means a family that can manipulate/control fire). Lydia is very manipulative and overly pushy. Lydia is good friends with Maya from childhood. She has red-orange-yellow ombre hair, pale skin, fire-like eyes, a small crown on the top of her head, and a fire tail. Lydia dispises Lila a Lot, even though she's Mayas sister, Lydia never got along with her no matter what. Lydia's abilities include - Pyrokinesis, melting/welding/bending metal to her touch, being able to make her whole body fire. Lydia's hair spikes up in Flames (think like redson from LMK) when she gets mad. Lydia's clothes mainly are made out of non-flammable material, so she doesn't burn them. Lydia hates when she's not able to get in on any fights. Lydia is power-hungry, so she has most of the people under her control gather powerful multiversal weapons so she can use them all to rule the world (classic villian). Though Lydia's whole organization is about the main elements/Elemental powers(though there is one using electricity- shshshsh) she still put Raegen in the organization despite him not having any Elemental powers, he's just kinda the barbarian of the Organization (aka the only one like REALLY physically strong). Lydia grew up incredibly spoiled, in a wealthy household, which didn't help much with how power-hungry she got later on in life.

Relationships (main) [Relationships you guys should know about] :

Maya is Lila's twin sister, she doesn't know her sister died(technically) and thought she just went missing. Maya is incredibly reluctant to help Lydia with her goals, but does anyway since Lydia is her best friend. Maya admires the "Casino crew"'s (Maxie, Stella, Palin, Kaede, Gacey, etc[most I haven't wrote about here]) work, but knows they're a threat to the Elements organization, so knows she has to take them down at some point. Mayas abilities include - Cryokinesis, Teleportation, Water manipulation, minor Illusions. Maya has black hair with a light cyan ombre, light cyan horns and tail, cyan eyes, black diamond pupils, and pale skin. Maya respects most of the Element's people, mostly respecting Raegen for dealing with Lydia's bullshit most of the time. Maya loves fashion and includes it in her everyday outfits. Maya often wears a chrome belt on her outfits, liking the look it gives against her skin. Maya often leads buisness meetings since Lydia hates doing them. Maya's one of the kinder people in the Elements, most are insane or just need to go to a mental hospital or therapy. Maya is very gentle with people, and usually when talking to Karen's uses gentle parenting techniques.

2023 YEAR IN REVIEW!!!

My artstyle changed a lot this year, especially after my shift from ibis paint to procreate after getting my iPad (drawing on an iPad is the BEST btw 100% recommend I love it way more than a phone and it didn’t die after a month like my old wacom 💀💀). I’m relatively happy with where my art is atm and I hope to continue to improve in 2024!

January: A drawing of my Rise Leo human design I did to test out a pixel brush I found for Ibis Paint. He’s very fun to draw hehe I need to draw him more-

February: I wanted to learn how to draw the future designs of Leo and Mikey along with CJ so I planned to draw them all together! I struggled with Leo though so I just got rid of him. Sorry Peepaw 😞😞💔💔💔

March: Fanart for @beannary ‘s TLP au! I love it so much so I had to draw smth for it hehe 😈😈💥💥💥 which reminds me I need to draw more at some point- might redraw it at some point cause I’m not super happy with how it turned out but I do like the idea a lot

April: The month I created Reticent! April’s Fools was the first episode I came up with so I drew a chapter poster! It ended up being very different to the chapter cover I drew a couple months later but it’s still cool :D Leo is being weirdly affectionate to Mikey though what the heck that isn’t like him smh. Although I guess it was meant to be purposefully exaggerated sooooo 🥰

June: Krangified Donnie is literally my favourite concept ever thats it that’s all I have to say dbskdbwkh I adore Krangified Donnie and if the Rise brainrot takes over the Reticent brainrot for a while then I will probably be drawing Krangified Donnie during that time sorry not sorry

July: Reticent Chapter 3’s cover yippee!!! Still my favourite Reticent cover although Chapter 8’s is a close second (I can’t wait to post it once it’s been betaread yippee!!!). The scribble over Leo’s eyes is literally just because I was struggling to draw his eyes and i was getting annoyed dbskdbskdb it’s actually a very common issue with him (common Ret!Leo L). Also Mikey being reflected in the mirror is a reference to Mirror Man by Jack Stauber which I’ve basically considered his theme song since @aaronymous999 introduced it to me ebwjcbkwhd thank you Mr. Aaronymous! Also somebody said he was in the barbie box and I still need to draw that to this day because Mikey would’ve killed to go see Barbie.

August: RET DONNIE WOOOOO he’s being bullied again!!! I drew that piece for a colour palette challenge request and realised I got the prompt wrong so I just made it into its own thing 💥💥💥 it’s usually a flickering light gif but I chose to just use the version with the light on for this post. The photos in the background were really fun to draw hehe either April’s or Mikey’s is my favourite.

September: MY 500 FOLLOWER DTIYS YIPPEE (/my 150 follower DTIYS for tumblr). This one took me. Forever to draw and I love it to pieces hehe it was really fun to design Mikey’s room and figure out outfits for the sillies and idk the concept of a sleepover just seemed really fun to me dbskbdkdb- and all the entries I got were so so awesome I loved them all to pieces!!! I still look at them all the time hehe

October: FANART OF @endlesslogo ‘S HUMAN RISE LEO DESIGN WOOOOOO!!! This was the piece I started rendering on hehe it was so much fun to draw!!!! Although I did have a fight with rendering the hair for over an hour svsjegksbdk HOW DO PEOPLE DO IT FR!!!

November: Me and my friends were working on a crossover between our TMNT iterations so I drew all of our Karai’s together!!! 🎶 Type of Dancers 🎶

This came to my mind after coming back from a party, more specifically a wedding 🎉

And I couldn't help but imagine the turtles in that kind of setting.

TMNT Version: RISE

That's right, I hardly do scenarios for “mad dogs”, so this Headcanons is for this crazy team.

Leonardo 💙

• This turtle instantly became the center of the track

• The “Bachata” seemed that it was destined for him

• It was such an energetic dance but also so flirtatious that he was the ideal man or rather turtle

• Mister Bones may have taught him an extra step or two so he could impress some potential conquests.

• I don't even notice when a line has formed to dance with he

Donatello 💜

• This turtle gets the dance in the blood!

• Parties are not his thing, but gosh, when I hear the music, he joined Leo to be the center of the track

• he danced with anyone who wanted to dance next to him, it didn't matter that he was a mutant

• He did not know when that line was created to dance with he

Raphael ♥️

• he was so shy and afraid to dance at first, he didn't want his size to be an obstacle

• But when they called him to "Take down the boyfriend" taking the role of the tower, he was flattered

• Needless to say, no one was able to bring the boyfriend down thanks to him.

• Later some older women taught her to dance “danzón”

• A slow dance like a waltz

• Raph was adored by all the older women who now wanted to dance with the huge turtle

Michelangelo 🧡

• The “Quebradora” was his favorite type of dance.

• he consisted of so many jumps, pirouettes and cleans that he loved it.

• Ideal for the tortoise that is full of energy

• We could say that he got a little too excited that he was about to open a portal with his feet. (His brothers fortunately stopped him in time)

• He showed all his steps and was even able to dance in a group with his children as if they were all coordinated

So a little IDW!TMNT theory I've cooked up

Recently, one of the creators for the comic — One Ms. Sophie Campbell — stated that as of issue #112, about 5 years have passed since the series started. You can see her post here.

Now I've gone back to read the issue to confirm, and it looks like at some point in the process, "5 years" got changed to "several" as you can see on this page.

Now, it seems like at some point, "five years" was changed to "several years" (and we can tell that this was a later change due to how clunky "we're only about several years old" is as phrase. We're going to take Ms. Campbell's word, though because a) I trust her memory and authority on the subject as both the author and artist for this issue and b) it makes things much more interesting.

Here's why:

In issue #69's (nice) Ninja Notes editorial column, editor Mr. Bobby Curnow (at least, I assume it is Mr. Curnow who responded to the letters to the editor at this time. Regardless, the point stands) states that the turtles "span roughly from fifteen to nineteen," as you can see here:

Now, issue #69 came out in May of 2017. Issue #1 came out in August of 2011. Following our 2:1 ratio, that means it had been three years since the start of the series. By extrapolation, that means the boys were twelve to sixteen as of issue #1.

But wait! There's more!

Issue #1 establishes that the turtles mutated 18 months prior to the start of the series, which puts them mentally at ten-and-a-half to fourteen-and-a-half.

And now we draw it all together:

In the IDW continuity, the Turtles and their father are the reincarnations of the Hamato family, all of whom were executed by Oroku Saki several hundred years ago. If the boys were about mentally about ten to fourteen when they mutated? That means they were about ten to fourteen when this —

— Happened.

Now, all this is done without taking into account some in-universe time skips. Comic book time is very Jeremy Bearimy like that. But I think it's close enough that I can confidently say not a one of those boys was over 16 when they were murdered, and I think the younger they are the more heartbreaking everything is. They spent almost their whole lives on the run, training to get vengeance, only to die before they could even be considered adults. And then Splinter goes and sets them on the same path when they get a second chance at life...

TMNT and Responsibility

I've posted a couple of TMNT thoughts on here recently that have been surprisingly well received, but I think this might be my most divisive so far 😅 I want to take a look at responsibility in relation to Leo and Donnie. This crosses most iterations, though I have made notes where there are exceptions.

A lot of people (both within the shows and within the fandom) tend to put quite a bit of emphasis on the weight that Leonardo is under as leader of the team (this is a little trickier in Rise due to Raph initially being the leader as well as being the oldest, but even in the Rise fandom there is a lot of focus on the pressure that is unexpectedly put onto Leo).

Now, I want to make a distinction here between the responsibilities of being the eldest brother, and the responsibilities of being the team leader, because they are not the same thing. Every Leo (barring Rise) is the oldest son for their entire lives (obviously😅). As the oldest, they are held to certain standards and expects to watch over their younger brothers. However, their brothers aren't that much younger than them even in Rise (and even though the fandom loves to baby all of the Mikeys, though that's a rant for another day), and so the responsibility is more along the lines of setting an example and helping Splinter out a bit more.

He is also usually more dedicated in his training than the others, though he enjoys training so this is also seen as a hobby until things get serious.

They only really become team leader when they are in their teens (I'm pretty sure every show has a moment where we see the teenage Leo accepting or asking for the responsibility of being in charge, though I'm not too sure about 03). This is an immense burden, putting the lives of their friends and family directly into their hands and forcing them to make tough choices. However, as mentioned, this burden is placed on them when they are teenagers. I am not dimishing that it is awful to expect a teenager to make plans that may include sacrificing themselves, their family, and/or their friends for the greater good, but up until their mid teens, when they start going to the surface and fighting enemies, their responsibilities are primarily more geared towards being older siblings (providing comfort, discipline, etc)

Now, this is the part where I am expecting some people to get angry with me. Unlike with the Leos who get the majority of their burdens acknowledged by the shows and the fandoms, Donatellos', for the most part, seem to be ignored, and even when the pressure they are under is acknowledged, it tends to be brushed off later on or is given a one episode focus that doesn't end up alleviating any of his duties (in 12, Leo never apologised for what he said in Fourfold Trap and I am still furious)

As the second youngest, Donatellos are still seen as needing to protect the youngest sibling, and also receives far less protection/leeway than Mikey does (that isn't to say that his brothers never protect him or show him any younger brother privileges, but Mikey tends to get away with far more than Donnie ever would, as I mentioned in a previous post, Mikey generally gets far fewer consequences for his actions within the narrative of multiple iterations).

Don also has the most responsibilities out of the entire team (this is again a little bit harder to say for certain in Rise as no team medic is confirmed, though I personally believe that Rise Donnie is the medic seeing as he is the one who brings up Raph's allergy, and having Leo be the medic when he was also going to be made into the leader doesn’t make sense to me).

He keeps everything up and running, the electricity, probably their clean water, their vehicles, their phones, their recreational tech, their security, etc. He's usually an emotional sounding board for the team (especially Mikey). As stated before, he also tends to be the team medic, and usually serves as a second in command to Leo, helping him brainstorm/finalise plans, and also often taking over as leader in Leo's stead when Leo is unable to lead, or when the mission relates to one of his specialities. Poor 07 even has a job on top of his usual responsibilities whilst trying to be leader.

And the Donnies have probably been handling most of this since they were pretty young (though, like Leo, their responsibilities do ramp up when they are teens) When their responsibilities increase, their brothers' lives are constantly placed into their hands. If their vehicles don't work, they can't make an escape. If their security fails, they might not be prepared for an attack. If they can't figure out a solution to a number of issues on the fly in the middle of some seriously stressful situation, the mission fails and the people that they care about could suffer for it. If they can't figure out how to patch them up, they die.

It just annoys me a little when people go on and on about how Leo has been martyred his entire life, sacrificing his entire childhood when, for the most part, his childhood was the same as his brothers up until they were teens, and Donnie probably had more responsibility as an actual child.

Although they would have had some responsibilities as the oldest, it was probably nowhere near as much stress as the fandom likes to portray. Rise Raph is a bit of an exception to this as their Splinter seemed to be a lot more neglectful due to his depression, and so Raph probably had more responsibility in raising his siblings.

So, as a sort of conclusion to this long rambling post, I just wanted to acknowledge that, although most of the time Leo is viewed as the brother under the most pressure, I fully believe that Donnie is a strong contendor for the title of brother with the most responsibility. An awful lot of their day to day life and their missions depend on Donnie being able to fix things or whip up a miracle. Also, like Leo, Donnie is often put on the spot, forced to make split second decisions that could tip the balance either for or against them.

I'd like to talk about Oyuki

And, as an extension, Mike/Oyuki.

But let's just start with Oyuki, herself.

Oyuki Mamisha (alternatively, Mamishi or Mashimi... they never seemed to settle on her surname, but I always stuck with Mamisha, since that was the one that she first gave) was a character in the TMNT Adventures Comics (the Archie run) who was introduced at the same time as Ninjara (1992). I'll put a rundown of her story under a cut because this is going to be image-heavy!

She first showed up when Chien Khan, a dog "mutant" (actually he was cursed, but that's another story) wanted to bring a demon to Earth, and so needed to sacrifice a strong soul. To that end, he kidnapped Oyuki from the streets. She was homeless and made a living as a thief in Hirohima, and at the time was a smoker. Oddly, she had blue eyes.

The Turtles managed to save her, thus preventing the demon from coming to Earth.

Oyuki then moved to America and became April's roommate.

She also became her camera operator when April was fired from her job and went freelance.

She had a strong, rebellious personality, and she resented that people didn't like her smoking around them.

She did, however, finally quit smoking.

Oyuki then accompanied April and the Turtles on some of their adventures, including when they went to Jerusalem.

Unfortunately, at that time Michelangelo (or, as they spelled his name in the Archie run, Michaelangelo) was blinded by a Molotov cocktail.

April and Oyuki went back the USA by a different route than the Turtles, and when the Turtles' plane went down into the ocean Mike was captured and tortured by the government. After his rescue, Oyuki helped to prove that the Turtles were the good guys.

She showed up a lot throughout the series, but as I said, she wasn't given much development. However, in a flash-forward (to the year 2000), it was shown that Oyuki herself had become a reporter.

That was the last we see of her, as the series ended soon afterwards. She never got much development, but the potential was always there for more. Since she wasn't really given one, in the early 2000s I wrote Oyuki's backstory in a fic that takes place before she meets the Turtles. I may post it on AO3 one day. We'll see.

Anyway, on to...

Mike / Oyuki

Mike and Oyuki were the only couple I ever really shipped in any TMNT universe, and certainly the only one I ever wrote anything for. Not many people did ship them... just a few, really, and I think that they only did so because they were my online friends and read my stuff. Funnily enough, back then (15-20 years ago) there weren't as many portmanteau ship names as there are now, so they never really had one. l always just called them M/O. But now I suppose it is almost a requirement to have one, so as the captain of this ship, I hereby declare it to be Oyukiangelo!

Anyway, when the Turtles rescued Oyuki from Chien Khan, it was Mike that knocked the dagger away.

Later on, after things had calmed down a bit, Oyuki took Mike to teach him how to fly a Japanese kite. While they were about it, she was happy to find out that he liked poetry, and they traded haikus.

They hung out a lot after that, and were by each others' sides when the whole group was doing things together.

When the Turtles left Japan, Leonardo said goodbye to Oyuki, but Oyuki just said goodbye to Mike.

Back in the states, Mike's picture is seen in the apartment that April and Oyuki share.

Then they got to Jerusalem...

And when Mike got blinded, Oyuki stayed in the hotel with him while the others went back out to fight. Now, it is of course never mentioned what they spoke about or did during that time, but I honestly believe this is when their relationship took a turn past best friends to something more serious.

As I said above, Mike was then captured and tortured, and after his rescue, Oyuki helped to show the world what they did to him. Later, the two of them are shown being really close.

So, there it is -- the origin of my only real TMNT ship. And although Oyuki only showed up in the Archie run, my headcanon is that (like April and Casey and Shredder) she exists in just about every TMNT universe, and that she is an important part of Mike's life every time.

As I said, I was one of only a handful of people that shipped them, and one of maybe two or three people that wrote anything about them. I mean, hell. I still ship them to this day... and if nobody else does, then by God, I will row this boat alone.

🦋 ⇢ share something that has been on your heart and mind lately 

Hm! A fandom specific one then; I've really been enjoying the collaborative projects I've been doing lately more than all the competitions I've seen going around on tumblr for TMNT/ROTTMNT. (I've done a couple zines, some writing events, etc.) The competitions are fun, but the TMNT fandom has sort of become an echo chamber I think. (Partially a result of no new material, of course.) The collaborations that come from it are great to see and fun obviously, but the lack of anything else in the fandom (like zines, or comics, or event exchanges like Big Bangs, or holiday events) has really come into stark contrast lately. Idk! I realize there ARE zines and collaborations, but they get a severe lack of attention vs the competition polls and brackets I've been seeing, and it seems like there's one every month or so. Everyone's mileage may vary obviously, and every fandom is different and goes through different things so I'm not too worried about it or taking it too seriously. I just think the competition format may throttle more opportunities than it provides, especially if it's THIS prevalent in the fandom.

🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

UUUUH MCYT related, but I dropped some characters into another series, and had to decide what they would have had in their video game inventory hot bar when they were transferred into a fantasy series. Combing through old videos and trying to decide what they would have been keeping easy access to was both a study in those characters/ real life creators, as well as a deep dark look into video game inventory management. Deeply upsetting. What are you hanging onto those three pieces of string and rotten flesh for king? For later???

I have two cats! Pandora (Dora for short) who is about nine, and Barrie who's about three or four.

Pandora hobbies include opening every drawer and cupboard in my house while I'm gone, playing with hair ties she gets out of the drawers, and laying like road kill in the middle of the floor with all her paws in the air.

Barrie's hobbies include eating the hair ties Pandora digs out of the drawers (I have taken measure against this but he is a freakish heat seeking missile for dangerous trash to eat), being used as a teddy bear, and licking my legs while I try to sleep.
