I binged read ”Night in the Woods” in two days. I’m so excited for more content! The last chapter was crazy with that reveal and cliffhanger. I knew something with Juneau’s legal name was going to happen. Your fic also reawakened and amplified my love(simping) for Ford.

Anyway, my questions are if you have any Ford fanfic recommendations(can be ford x reader or ford-centered fics; I need content to help me wait for Chapter 19) and if there is a specific code solving technique I should use to solve your codes like what type it is. I’m new to these Gravity Falls codes so i dont know where to start.

Hey, thanks for reading! I'm glad you're digging it. The codes in the footnotes are just Caesar ciphers, as far as I remember. Pretty sure if I tried anything more complicated y'all would come at me with pitchforks! PSA: There are lots of websites that will brute-force decrypt for you, if you don't feel like doing it by hand. I think cryptii has the best UI.

Fic recs - if you haven't played the dating sim, play the dating sim, for real - none of those phds is an md, you dumb idiot - Scientists Don't Visit Brothels (explicit) - hunkle grunkle (it's a bunch of one-shots, and I think some of them are explicit but I don't actually remember) - Merry Christmas, Princess - Five Minutes Older (this is a Timestuck AU, mostly Stan and Mabel. But Ford is also in it! There are scenes in here with Bill and Ford that really fucked me up; I still think about them months later.)

So I said I was gonna do it and here it is! One big huge list of fics I love the hell outta for ya’ll to read. These are mostly GF fics, but there are a few SU fics and maybe like several LoZ fics near the end, maybe a few others from other fandoms but still, I can promise they’re all pretty good! And nah I’m not reccing any UF based fics on here, cause if you want to check those out, you can do so here. And with that outta the way, let’s get started, in no particular order and with very little rhyme or reason under the cut! All the World’s a Toybox by Straightjacketd Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: Incomplete Ok so I fucking LOVE the hell outta this one because its angsty as fuck and dark. Like fucking dark, like if ya’ll think UF has gotten dark ahahah UF is like child’s play compared to how far this one goes. But that’s honestly one of the things I love about it. I feel like there aren’t enough GF fics out there about what might have happened to our beloved characters had Bill won during Weirdmageddon, but this one puts all ten of the zodiac characters through utter hell and back but the good news is there are spots of hope here and there as the story goes along, so totally go check it out if you wanna cry a fucking LOT because I certainly have with this one!

Monster Falls by Queen Flara Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: Incomplete A pretty cute take on Monster Falls. We get to see how all the various characters deal with their new monster forms and there’s a bit of angst but a lot of fluff too so I like it and I’d check it out if you just want some cute Monster Falls stuff. 

Ain’t No Cure for The Cervitaur Blues by Krista Perry (also on Ao3) Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: Incomplete? I think? So I recently reread this one over Thanksgiving break and I remembered how much I ADORED this one! Its chock full of one of the things ya’ll know I’m infamous for in UF: Dipper angst! Which is honestly a kinda common theme through several of these fics but whatever, its all good, don’t worry about it. But yeah this one’s a beautifully written angst storm with really high stakes, great tension, and immense amounts of awesome creativity packed into things! Plus its kinda Monster Fallsish, which is always a good time, so for reals, check this one out cause its one of the ones I recommend the most on this entire list, no lies. 

Time Trapped by Polachew Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: Incomplete So if you’re like me and love some Timestuck AU angst, this one has got plenty of that! The ways Young!Stan and Mabel and Young!Ford and Dipper play off each other in this are so great and there really are a lot of sweet moments in here. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t something of an inspiration for a future chapter of UF I wanna do with a Timestuck premise... But yeah go check this one out its pretty great!

Silent Knight by Split Infinitive Fandom: Legend of Zelda Status: Incomplete This was honestly one of the first really good Breath of the Wild fics I managed to find after the game first came out and its honestly so good. It fulfills my inner Zelink shipper so much imo I died because of how cute those two dorks are but this one also has a pretty damn intriguing plot, one that I am totally down for reading more of whenever the author decides to update it. So go check it out if that’s your thing!

We Had a Deal by freakyanimegirl Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: Incomplete This may be one of my favorite fucking fanfics of all time because of mere premise alone. Also feels, this one gives me INTENSE feels every time I read it because of how absolutely, soul crushingly angsty it is. But yeah its a super neat idea in here, one that I won’t dare spoil to any of you. Suffice to say its copious amounts of Mystery Twins angst and Bill being a complete and utter asshole, so what else is new imo like I said its great yet so simple and idk I just really, really like this one so go read it! 

Deerperfalls by Deerper Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: Complete (for a fucking change) Oh damn another Monster Falls fic with a fuck ton of Dipper angst in it what else is new that seems to be my fanfic taste for some reason imo but yeah this one’s a good one. Really sad and angsty but really good. Like Augh I remember the first time I read this over the course of a sick day from school and I was so fucking engrossed in it that I forgot to actually fucking try to get better so ahaha you know its good if that be happening. Check it out and enjoy the angstssssss

Nothing a Little Sleep Can’t Fix by AkitaFallow Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: Oneshot Heyyyyy its one of those angsty post Sock Opera oneshots that kinda might have inspired the angst aftermath of Sock Opera in UF! Ya’ll can’t blame me for that you gotta blame damn good fics like this. But for as angsty as this is, it also has is lovely moments of fluff, which are much appreciated so yeah, check it out!

A Different Way by Seasoned Writing Fandom: Steven Universe Status: Incomplete Bout time I rec an SU fic. And while this one doesn’t have a lot of chapters, it does have a pretty interesting AU concept, so *shrugs* idk I like it, not a whole lot else to say about it though.

Tourmaline by Phantomrose96 Fandom: Steven Universe Status: Complete Goooooodddddd this one is just a fucking ANGST storm but its a damn good angst storm, one that really, REALLY makes you hurt for Steven and pre-redemption arc Peridot. Like I legit cried over this one because DAMN its something else. Go check it out like WOW

Ancient Roots by RandomButLoved Fandom: Legend of Zelda Status: Complete Gooooosh this one is absolutely GORGEOUS and it hurt me so much but I love it so much too! Such an incredibly crafted, heartwrecnhing AU of Skyward Sword, one that made me rethink pretty much the entire game! Its rare that roleswaps between Link and Zelda work so perfectly, but this one is as close to perfection as anyone has ever gotten before and I simply adore it. 

Dreamscarring by AnneriaWings Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: Oneshot Another angsty post-Sock Opera oneshot, and again, probably one of the ones that unconsciously influenced UF Sock Opera. Still, really angst, pretty brutal, but ultimately sweet and comforting and that’s what I like in my post-Sock Opera angst storms if Do It For Them was any indication of that. 

Heartbreaker by Queenie Z Fandom: Legend of Zelda Staus: Twoshot Yeeeee boi love me some HW angst involving Zelink and onesided Cialink. And this one’s honestly so beautiful, balancing the angst out with fluffy adorable romance and I simply love it. 

Finally by Kibasgirltsumi Fandom: Legend of Zelda Status: Complete This is honestly one of my faovirte fanfics of all time like for reals its so damn beautiful and so damn painful and so damn perfect and it strikes me in all the right places and my ship is so damn strong in it and so much happens and its just AUGH oh god I could go on forever with it its so fucking good

Tainted Tale by Flying.Penguin.97 Fandom: Legend of Zelda Status: Complete I’m a sucker for dark rouge protagonists fics, and I’m also a lover of Link angst so this one fucking did it for it. Also it has copious amounts of Ghirahim being a fucking fabulous asshole, so that’s fun and everything. This a good read. 

Convictions and Captivity by realfakedoors Fandom: Steven Universe Status: Incomplete AUGHGHGHG FUCK I haven’t even finished fully reading this one yet but DAMN SON IF IT AINT SOME OF THE MOST ANGSTY STEVEN UNIVERSE SHIT I”VE EVER READ again in an example of a fic that puts UF to shame with how damn dark it is this one goes fucking HARD and it HURTS ME but I love it and I really need to finish it because AUGH FUCK 

Ask the Right Questions by AceFace98 Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: Incomplete So the idea behind this one is a lot of fun and tbh this has quite a good bit of fluff and humor in it and hey I’m always for Mystery Twins bonding so yeah this one is neat check it out

Three Days by LynnLarsh Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: Oneshot And in an example of something from canon that will also turn incredibly angsty in UF when we get to Weirdmageddon, we get, what else, more Dipper angst! But yeah this one is sad like damn this poor kid wandered around a fucking desolate apocalyptic wasteland completely alone for three days and everyone seems to forget about that but this fic doesn’t and it HURTS and I like it a lot for that

Come Together by Winter_S_Jameson Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: Incomplete I love zodiac centric fics so this one I really enjoy a lot, in large part because it focuses on Ford realizing “oh shit maybe working with others can actually save the day how have I never thought about that before”. Its not super far along yet, but we get some Pines fam angst in there which is always good angst if ya ask me I’m down for that and I like it so ye ye ye ye

Anyway, I’ve Been There by Caleb Nova Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: Complete (but still updates occasionally) Strange how Dipifica is one of my primary OTPs but I’ve recced so far fics centered on those two in this list, huh? Well no more because this one has one of the best developments of the ship I’ve seen thus far. Its kinda slow burn and lowkey but in a really nice way and everyone feels so great and in character and Dipper and Pacifica are adorable together and ahhhh its so cute imo

A Conspiracy of Minerals by CompletelyDifferent Fandom: Gravity Falls/Steven Universe Status: Complete Waahhhhhha? A GF/SU fic writer reccing a GF/SU fic??? Tis madness! But yeah I read this way back before I even started writing UF anf loved it. Its mostly just a bunch of cute little oneshots but I do enjoy the few that are there. They’re pretty cute if ya ask me and the character interactions are sweet enough.

Let Me Clarify by carpenoctem22 Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: Oneshot Bunch more Dipifica cuteness, only this time a little aged up. Not a whole lot to say about it except for that its completely adorable. 

Twin Telepathy by blueechofreak Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: Oneshot What can I say but more post Sock Opera angst, only this time with a bit more Mystery Twins fluff added in so ya got that good old hurt/comfort in there, which always makes for a good time. 

Host by Neelh Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: Oneshot Some pretty artsy Pines family angst all around in this one, so yeah, good stuff. Pretty short, but still good. 

Lull by carpenoctem22 Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: oneshot Hey look, instead of Sock Opera angst we got post the Last Mabelcorn angst! As if that makes any difference imo its still angst no matter how much you cut it and that’s why I like it. 

Swear by carpetnoctem22 Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: oneshot Another take on those three days Dipper was wandering around during Weirdmageddon and also pretty fucking heartwrenchingly angsy so you know I like if if its that lol

Enough by Inkblot9 Fandom: Gravity Falls Status: oneshot A really sweet little bunch of fluff focusing on one of my favorite bonds in the entire show, that between Dipper and Ford, which is sadly not utilized enough in GF fics but here its done so adorably and sweet and such good family fluff and I love it

And yeah that’s about it for now. These were all the best ones I could find in all my lists. I’ll be sure to add onto this whenever I find new good fics. 1. favorite fic you wrote this year

...This is actually kind of a call-out, because I’m realizing that I haven’t really started any new fics for the entirety of 2017.  Just updated old ones, which is in a way good because I have five gazillion WIPs, but also terrible because!! No new ideas!  At least I got one in, the finale missing scene I posted a few days ago (with the classic ‘all lower-case, italics song lyric/quote’ title that I thought I would stop doing after high school!)  

I guess it will be a holiday tradition for me to write something with an entirely ridiculous premise, so there will be something new and up before the end of the year.   Last year it was the Gravity Falls Elf AU, featuring Yellow-elf-tights!Stan and I-live-in-seclusion-because-I-accidentally-murdered-my-brother!Ford.  This year?  You’ll have to wait and see!  (Though... I’ve actually spilled the beans to you already, so that’s more for everyone else reading this.)

14. a fic you didn’t expect to write

I didn’t expect to update my buying gold series this year, or ever again, really.  It had been so long, the subject matter seemed to have gone out of vogue, and I wasn’t sure if I could pull what I had in mind off.  But stuck on a six hour long plane ride and squinting at that 9-pt Times New Roman font... why not, you know?  It was something I had always wanted to read.  Even if it isn’t anyone else’s cup of tea, at least I can get a good read out of it in a few months when I’ve forgotten enough about writing it to read it somewhat objectively!

15. something you learned this year

I guess I really learned what it’s like to be in a dying fandom, hah.  Not that I was doing much fandom-ing for most of the middle months.  

Just a while ago, I actually met up in real life with someone who was one of my closest friends in the fandom, one who had a really bad break with the community, and it was just really strange but relieving redefining our friendship without the context of fandom.  I think what it comes down to isn’t the general trend of the community or how many people there are, it’s the people who you interact with most directly.  So I think, even when I’m annoyed or disgusted or downright embarrassed by something I see, I need to keep focused on the good things that exist - and creating things I like, myself.  

19. any new fics to start next year

I have a bunch of plot ideas, I just don’t know which ones to start before others!  I guess I need help deciding, wink wonk.  A bunch of one-ish sentence pitches:

- Shortly after exposing the Society of the Blind Eye, Dipper and Mabel find a man with six fingers and a familiar face in the woods, who doesn’t remember anything at all.  (Involves time/dimension shenanigans)

- Dipper and Mabel find that Journal 3 comes with something extra.  His name is Ford and he insists that he’s not actually a ghost because he’s not dead - his body just got stolen by an evil triangle dream demon, he says, so if they can help him locate his knucklehead of a brother so he can get this all sorted out, that would be perfect.  It shouldn’t be hard, he has a mullet.

- Timestuck AU that happens before Dipper and Mabel find out about Ford, which means Dipper ends up stuck in the backseat of a wanted criminal somewhere in New Mexico, and Mabel gets the fun experience of watching “Stan” and Fiddleford’s partnership dissolve firsthand (and makes some wildly inaccurate conclusions based on the facts she has!)

FanFic Appreciation Week

I feel like I am getting on this kind of late but I have excuses. But here are some great authors or some amazing fics that I have enjoyed and gone back for a few fandoms. I have a lot of stories from a lot of fandoms most Gravity Falls because I am currently obsessed with it right now so here we go:

Doctor Who: 

Those Who Help Us Most to Grow  by Crystal Rose of Pollux

They have written an amazing amount for the Second Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon and this is just a sample of some of their work. This is the story I always come back to when I need some Doctor and Jamie interaction. I suggest checking out all their works if you enjoyed some of these short stories

The Regenerations of The Doctor by  My Lord Doctor6735

I enjoyed this fic when I was seaching for a taste of every doctor. It is simple and sweet and that is what I enjoy about it most. 

Supernatural: 

These are the only four writers I will recommend in this fandom. They get the characterization more than the actual show writers do. 

Bring Him Back by A. Zap

This is a good short story that gets you right in the feels. 

The Collector by Aini NuFire

This person writes AMAZING works. This is the one that got me addicted to their writing. I recommend everything they have every written but please read this. It is feelsy and heart breaking and I love it so much. I may go re-read it. 

Forgotten by NorthernSparrow

Even if you hate this fandom I recommend reading this fic. It is amazing and heart wrenching and it really brings tears to your eyes. It also has companion pieces that go further into this universe and hardships. A Winter’s Tale also would be a good read for this writer. 

Family Matters by 29Pieces

Really put the conflicting emotions into you about John Winchester as a character and seems like something that could have happened on the show. 

Young Justice

Possession by  Ally Marton 

WARNING: Kidnapping, Emotional abuse, Stockholm Syndrome 

This fic really got me into loving Wally West and, more specifically, Wally West Whump. So much pain into this bright eyed speedster. This is my favorite fic I have found from his genre in the YJ fandom and I have re-read is a lot. 

In The Grave by  Adoglover5

WARNING: Kidnapping, Buried Alive, Heavy Themes

Like I said. I like Wally getting hurt and this is just wonderful. Another well written and dark themed fic. 

Harry Potter

Obsidian Rhapsody by Cobalt Violet

WARNING: PAIN. SO MUCH PAIN. 

Pairing: Wolfstar

This fic hurt a lot to read but it was amazing at the same time. It is a recommended read if you like darker themes and darker AUs. Also check out more by this person. They write AMAZING Wolfstar 

Afterlife by  Veinne

I do care about this fic just because it is more realistic...in a sense.

This fic is incomplete and it is sad to read but I put it here anyway because it is amazing. And painful. Painful and amazing. 

James Potter and the Shrieking Shack by  Avery-Lou

Because there always needs to be more fics where the Marauders find out about Remus’ furry little secret. 

Not Ever by  orphan_account 

Werewolves and Magic and Dreams, Oh My! by  glitterfics

WARNINGS: This story is rated Mature

You can’t have a bunch of Remus stories without werewolf pain. This is another great discovery story that gets into the nitty-gritty. 

Captain America

This, You Protect by  owlet

This whole series is a MASTERPIECE. It focuses on Bucky and was created right after the Winter Solider came out. I like this version of how events could have gone a little better then the movies and I recommend this fic to everyone that loves Bucky Barnes. 

To Be Vulnerable Is Needed Most Of All by  perfect_plan

Paring: STUCKY

This is a good AU fic that I didn’t think I would enjoy enjoy when I clicked on it very late at night. It deals with some heavy things like PTSD and Panic Attacks but all over is a good fic about two people that become the best couple ever.

WARNING: This story is rated EXPLICIT 

Pairing: STUCKY

This story is really good and tries to be as historically accurate as possible. I was looking for a swicher-roo fic and this gave me everything I needed. I really have a hankering for more of the Howling Commandos so if anyone has any of those I am open. 

Welcome to Night Vale

A Momentary Lapse Of Reason by  PippinSqueaks

This story is just amazing! It is probably the only one I am recommending for this fandom. It follows along with Carlos’ view of this strange town of Night Vale and him falling in love. It doesn’t stop there. You get invested with the OC scientists and their lives. It ropes you in with the strange familiar and then traps you. I love it so much and go back to it all the time when I am listening. 

Gravity Falls

This fic is just great and feelsy and goes along with the worry any friend should have over his injured compadre. I love this fic a lot and it is a good read when wanting to dive into Fiddleford and Stanford’s friendship. 

Dead Of Night by dan_vs92

WARNING: Threat of Self-Harm, Blood, PAIN, Just all over Bill being a dick

Pairing: FiddAuthor

This story is how I came across the most wonderful and terrible person the fandom could give me and I love it. I love it so much. A shared love of making the skinny scientist that is Fiddleford H. McGucket suffer. @danvssomethingorother is a great writer and you should read EVERYTHING. And I mean it. Read EVERYTHING of theirs and spam review them. They are great. From Fiddauthor or FiddleStan. Just go and love their stuff.

WARNINGS: This story is rated MATURE for a lot of reasons. 

Bill is a dick. A real big dick and I hate him so much but that is why I love this story. Playing on emotions and shit is just so...ug...and Fidds suffering always spices up my life. 

Stanley McGucket by The Last Speecher (HeidiMelone)

PAIRING: FIDDAUTHOR but it isn’t that big in the story till later

Let me tell you about this story. I clicked on it in the dead of night when I was exhausted just looking for a good Stan story and came back with all these characters that I love dear to my heart. This AU and these OCs are just precious and I love them so much. @thelastspeecher has created a great world and you should read everything they have wrote. EVERYTHING. DO IT. 

Blind Faith by  pinesinthewoods

WARNINGS: BLOOD, GORE, RATED MATURE, SO MUCH PAIN

This story is the best AU I have every found. (At least one of them). I cannot tell you how painful it was to read all of this and come out whole. It is a journey and if you have not read this AU then you are missing out or know what is good for you and your stomach. 

Abuelito by jikanet_tanaka

Breaking up the pain train with some nice Soos and Stanley father-son moments. Cause we all need that in our lives. At least I do. 

Gravity Falls Timestuck AU by the_subpar_ghost

I love this fic for many reasons. Just Mabel being in the past is enough to fix some things that went wrong in the past. This story is also well written and amazing. I just think everyone should read this if they love young Stans, Mabel, and craziness. 

Unfinished Business by  thesnadger

WARNINGS: Character Death

Back to pain. This fic is all about Stanley dying in a very tragic way and just giving you ghost feels. I won’t give much but I cried a lot while reading. Ghost!Stan always makes me sad. You should check out more of @thesnadger‘s fics as well. I enjoy them a lot.

The Adventure with the Mindscape by Giroshane

Mindscape fics are kind of over done but this one is good. Trust me it is. It is Ford breaking down and you really get to see the connection between the brothers. It is just pain. 

Please Don't Come Again by LogicalBookThief

Back to some happy with Stan fighting for Soos. Soos and Stanley father-son bond is pure and needs more fics. 

The Ghost that Lives in Great Uncle Ford's Basment by LookerDeWitt

More Ghost Stanley for your fancy. This one Stan dies and haunts the Shack that never became the shack. Sadly the Mystery Twins’ summer is kind of bland mostly because of Stanford the Paranoid but it gets better. Trust me, it does. 

The Pit by looneymoony

A silly little fic that is all about two nerds realizing they like each other by falling to their deaths in a bottomless pit. 

Cutting the Knot by  Sarah1281

PAIRING: FIDDAUTHOR

This fic is a good Christmas time carol but also something more. It is a story that changes how time works and it also gives Ford a good life with a loving BF and a kid. What could be better then that? A fix-it fic with holiday charm. 

The Time Wish by Sarah1281

This is a good fic where Stanley gets a time wish and chooses to fix this past. I think this is nice because it gives everyone part of the ‘Mystery Trio’ a second chance at a better life when they were younger. 

Jersey Boy by Fordtato

WARNINGS: Period-Typical Actions, Historically Accurate, Drug Use

PARING: FIDDAUTHOR

This fic is still in the works and it is not last because it is the worst. It is last because it is amazing. It is a wonderful slow-burn fic that just so wonderful. It follows the time period wonderfully, Fidds is a little Hippie sass-master, Stanford is so awkward, and I just love this fic so much. It would be a crime to leave it off this list. If you love historically accurate things, dorky college boys, hippies, and just Ford in college this fic is for you. 

This is in NO WAY all the fics I can recommend but this is all that I think I can cram into one post. Gravity Falls is my main fandom right now so it does take more room but all these fics are worth a look into. Check out all these writers and LEAVE REVIEWS/COMMENTS ON THEIR STORIES.
