I’m such a Spn and Marvel girl! And these following fandoms have also warmed their way into my heart, Sherlock, Criminal Minds, The Witcher, and Detroit: Become Human. I never thought I would write video game fanfiction, but here we are.

How has the pandemic been treating you?

Let’s see, my dad died, and caused a ripple in my family. I’ve been verbally attacked. And scared of the virus killing everyone I care about. Oh, and now the owner of the company I work for is trying to stay open through shutdown. So not good. 0/10 would not recommend.

I’m taking the semester off from school because of everything that’s happened. But I just had my 3 month anniversary at work! That’s going pretty well. I love 80% of the people I work with and it can be such a fun atmosphere. 

Do you prefer heat or cold?

I’m the opposite, I love the cold, even though I’ve lived through extremely hot weather. I’ve walked through the snow barefoot. I want to be a frozen popsicle. 

Name one fact others may not know about you.

I just mentioned it a few questions back, but I love Netflix holiday movies.  Don’t tell the people in my real life because they sleep hard on the genre. A Christmas Prince and The Knight Before Christmas are my jam! I’m such a hopeless romantic. But my mom always makes fun of the hallmark specials so I keep the ones I like to myself. I really like When Calls the Heart,  the only Hallmark thing I watch. It’s early 20th century courting in rural Canada. And I know it’s so dorky and G rated but the way Jack looks at Elizabeth makes me swoon. So that’s a pretty well kept secret. Until now I guess. But you could just go onto my Netflix and see what I’ve watched so it’s not all that guarded.

I think we’re similar in this Yvette. I was as a kid. And now I’m more of an observer than a partaker. I think more than I say. I’m quiet when I work and also think things through and try to get all of the facts about a situation and who is in it. But when I have something to say, you’ll hear it. I’ve also been a very guarded person, and I still am, but I’ve learned to loosen my reigns.

At the end...

Ok final thoughts on supernatural and I will never speak of it again. (Lol yeah right but still).

I remember binging this entire show in one summer back in 2013. It was after my freshman year of high school and shout out to my high school’s Game club for playing destiel videos after school and getting me So HYPED for this show.

I remember feeling so attached to these boys. To this other worldly story they were building. That in the end, they had each other, and they would save the day. And my problems would melt away because the boys were fighting the devil and the angels and God himself and it was going to be okay. I would keep fighting.

I remember feeling like Dean the most - confused, angry, the good child who does what you’re parents tell you to do. Being the older sibling, raising your baby brother which sucked but also a job you would not trade for the world. (My brother is an ass and I’d die for him).

But there were moments when I felt like Sam - sad, rebellious, lost, needing guidance and reassurance from my person.

My people at the time - and we’re all still good friends even though I’m the only one that stuck with this show :P - watched the show with me. We had a community. And we didn’t just talk about SPN - most of us are weebs too, after all. We were also part of the OG superwholock fandom for a bit ;P

But I do remember that one day in study hall we talked about Castiel in season 6 The. Entire. Class.

And I think we had “Angel with a shot gun” playing on repeat for most of sophomore year. That song is a banger.

I remember using this show as a way to help relate and make feel better a friend who tried to commit suicide.

I used the show as a talking point for relating to people I’d never met before.

Needless to say, this show means a lot to me.

Not because it’s good. But because of who watched it with me.

Because of what it taught me.

When I went to college I fell off of the show, caught up when I could because I was still somewhat invested. But, growing up, you lose some of that fandom energy. Suddenly it’s not the show you talk to your friends about. It’s about your life and their lives. You talk about what you want. Who you’re going to be as a functioning member of society.

And now, full circle, I almost feel like a teenager again with this surge of emotions. But, life goes on.

And that’s what the finale taught me today.

Did I like it? No. Was it satisfying? No. Did I sob my eyes out for the better part of 30 minutes. Yes.

But life goes on anyway.

I thought the bday video was cute until I looked up what Dirge meant. With Misha saying Cas story ending will be sad, final and proud, I can't help but put more weight into the "Dirge" word. As much as I appreciate the video, Jensen pushing the spntapeball (head) to the floor at the end and the Dirge word, and Mishas words about Cas ending is turning me into a nervous wreck. I decided to read about and then watch final episodes. Now scared to read about them when they air. :-(

Nonnie, you are killing me. Now I had to look up what “dirge” means. Oh, “ a slow sad song or piece of music, sometimes played because someone has died”. Ok, let’s talk about the last stretch of SPN. First of all, for past couple of years I have been intentionally distancing myself from the show even as I kept watching it. I hope the show can’t hurt me anymore, so I plan to watch last 7 eps and I’m here if you want to talk about them. Second, I really truly honestly advice all Cas fans who feel anxious not to watch it live, or at least, last 3 episodes when the shit goes down. Make a decision never to watch last episodes if you must, only read about what happens. I heard this helped some fans to deal with the Games of Thrones finale. Just reading about all the stupid stuff is less painful than watching it.Take care of yourself, know your limits.

Now about possible Cas fate, what we know from spoilers and speculations, under the cut. Read it with a grain of salt because I’m just repeating what I have seen around. I think it’s quite possible that something like this will happen, but also, SPN writers are known to give fans what they want but not the way they expect it.

!! SPOILERS !!

Nonnie, it has been speculated long time ago that Cas will die or will be taken by the Empty in 15x18. Most likely Cas will be missing from 15x19, the episode they were filming today when Misha wasn’t on the set. It has been speculated that Dean may kill Cas while being mind controlled or something. Spoilers say that 15x19 will be the ending Chuck wants - bleak, tragic, etc. Mean ppl say it will be the ending for bronlies (extra cookie - brothers have no idea who Cas is, so yay, we get a whole episode without Dean even mentioning Cas). Jensen said that 15x19 is s15 finale and 15x20 is the series finale, w/e that means. So dirge really makes sense here.

We know that Cas will be back in 15x20. Misha said as much. Misha also has said that Cas’ ending will be poignant, sad and proud, that it will be final. Before he said that he wants Cas to have a meaningful death, good sacrifice (har har s12 finale, stabbed in the back, left in the dirt). There are several ways to interpret these statements. 1/ Misha is trolling; 2/ Misha is hinting at real ending to prepare Cas fans; 3/ Misha has been told by TPTB to hint at tragic end to prepare fans so he shock wave is not so huge; 4/ final ending = human Cas.

My personal, overly optimistic opinion is that Cas will not die physically, but we may get something like Cas sealed in Heaven and Dean staying on earth, like Rose and Tenth Doctor. When I’m extra salty, I imagine that the show will pair up Cas with Kelly as Jack’s guardians because lol, dontcha remember when Cas and Kelly were put on the same funeral pyre like a couple?

Cas could sacrifice himself during the last battle like Spike in BtVS finale, and knowing that SPN writers love to steal from Whedon we could get some kind of love confession. Which means nothing if Cas dies, sorry guys, it means nothing.

Human Cas is my least favorite ending, even if I really love reading fics with human Cas. But that’s because in fics Cas explores his humanity, he learns, he grows. Becoming human in the last episode of his 100+ episode run when he never even said in s15 that he wants to be human is useless. It’s an empty prize. Becoming human so he could stay with Dean the Winchesters is a cheap trick , a bare bone thrown at destiel shipper who now can go and write their fics and do all the hard work the writers refused to do. Because, after “you are dead to me”, Cas has to realize that his place in the bunker, even now, is precarious. I’m not sure if Cas wants to risk to be kicked out of bunker as a human for a second time.

I’m sure I’m forgetting some speculations, but the long and short of it is that, yes, SPN writers will use Cas as an angst fodder. No, don’t believe fandom metas that say that it is good for destiel. It is not. If Cas really dies in 15x18, if the show really needs to kill Cas again to resolve some plot points, to make Dean to grow a pair, then it is the most blatant admission that Cas death in s12 finale was absolute waste. They put Cas fans through that misery 3 years ago for nothing. And they are doing it again. They are dangling Cas fate in front of us in hopes we will watch the show. I say we ignore them. Love Cas, forget about the show.

I was getting unemployment for a lot of it, but have recently started to work full time again which is nice! It’s not super different as most of my friends dont live in the same state as me anyways, but it’s hard not being able to hang out with my HS best friend often. My whole family is also home more which is just fun and terrible at the same time, I can’t wait to move out when this is over.

I think having that automatic buffer zone works well for me bc I’ve never really had a falling-out with a good friend. They might fade away some, but I stay on good terms with all of them. On the end of an era:

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’d originally stopped watching SPN around early season 12 and had given up because it wasn’t the show I loved anymore. But then I caught up and liked season 13  and LOVED season 14.

Even still, I knew with the finality of it all, with the show that I’ve loved so deeply for 5 years coming to an end... The show that taught me things about myself. That gave me light in the darkness. That gave me some of the best friends I could ever hope for.... That gave me amazing experiences and took way too much of my money lol... that allowed me to travel to new places and see new things... that got me to overcome my fear of flying..... For this show to be ending... I knew that I would become emotional over it eventually.

I didn’t expect to get emotional over it this soon. As I type this, I’m fighting against tears and struggling to get and keep my thoughts together.

I know some of you have followed it since the very beginning. Most of you have followed it longer than I have. Maybe that means I have no business being as emotional over it as I am. But I am. It’s hard watching these men that I love and respect deeply in tears because they’re losing a big part of their lives. But it’s even harder to watch them miss out on time with their kids and families. (Misha’s daughter Maison said he’s more like a babysitter than a dad because he’s gone all the time. That broke my heart and I can’t imagine how much it crushed him.)

As excited as I am for this show to finally come to an end and receive the ending it deserves and watch everyone go on to other projects, I am sad. I am heartbroken. Right there with the rest of you. It’s not easy. It was never going to be easy because it was never going to last forever.

BUT! Even so... I want to remind you all that it is NOT over. The show will no longer produce new content and rely on reruns. But there are stories that the crew want to tell that they’re not going to get to. Which means that I KNOW there are stories that YOU haven’t told yet. Don’t let the credits-roll stop you! I KNOW that there is art still inside all of you waiting to be sketched, outlined, colored in, shared, digitized, painted, built...

The show will turn to reruns, but that doesn’t mean WE have to stop producing new content! New stories, new fanart, new edits, new songs, new headcanons, new... new new NEW! Let your IMAGINATION be your fuel, not just canon. Haven’t we said “fuck canon” often enough as it is? Multiverse people! There is no limit!

Because not only do we deserve new content for ourselves because the show means so much to us.... the cast who love the show as much as we do deserve new content... but there will be newbies. There will be people coming in at the end. After it’s all over. A year from now, five years from now, ten years from now... and don’t they deserve new content too?

Good Omens is a decades-old fandom with an unwavering ship. They just got resurrected by a mini-series. Sherlock Holmes is the oldest fandom in existence. People were writing fanfic for it back in the late 1800s and early 1900s. And they’re STILL writing fanfic for it and and creating fanart for it. SpinOffs and AUs are being created all the time.

The show doesn’t die with the credits-roll on the last episode. The show, the fandom, dies when we let it. And I say... we don’t let it. It will live as long as we keep it alive.

After all... wouldn’t they want us to “Carry On”?

You don't have to answer this, but anons like that person are exactly why what SPN is doing is so toxic. It's been 13 years - TFW are real people to many by now. Dishonest storytelling and queerbaiting do hurt, and are damaging. You have a right to watch the show and enjoy it, but I wonder if at some point you and the other meta writers will stop defending it - once it's over and nothing textual has happened, will it still be okay bc some beer label was tied to Destiel in the last scene? FFS.

If you think Destiel is only real because of beer labels you’re understanding meta writers all wrong. ESPECIALLY about “defending” Destiel. We CARE about it and we WRITE about it. I will “defend” Destiel in the sense that people defend their thesis (actually, wait I never had to do that because I only have a BA - I assume whoever you defend it to doesn’t lob anon complaints at you the entire time while you stand there helplessly gesturing where in your essay you answered their question already if they just read it properly :P) - I will explain what I see and why and how it all works and all because people are apparently interested in knowing this sort of thing?

If meta writers really upset you that much then I think there’s a fundamental misunderstanding about the entire point of it. When I go to write about something in the show I preface zillions of my comments with “I love” as a starting point and then start to explain deeper why I love some aspect of the show. Search my blog and you’ll get a billion results of me saying i love this i love that i love all of this. It’s not me being twee. It’s my rationale for why I am discussing something. 

What I am discussing is the story the way I see it and the way I enjoy it. 

Look, I got into meta because of Metatron, of Robbie Thompson, of the SUGGESTION that the subtextual level of the show had more to say than the surface layer. That it wasn’t a trashy genre show but there was a real intent. I mean maybe it was just asking us to realise that there’s so much good work going on in the show. It helps that 9x18 is one of the most fantastically layered episodes and structurally really interesting and contains foreshadowing and all sorts of goodies. I like the goodies, I am a bit of a nerd with a Literature degree who was on medical leave from life, so why not dig into the show and find what else it’s saying beyond the surface? And that’s *everything*. Sam and Dean and Cas’s lives and journeys. Parallels and side characters and metaphors and allusions and pop culture and settings and scenery and the amazing motels. The way old seasons come back around with new meanings. The whole WORLD of these characters.

I love this show.

And I see Destiel as part of its story, not as A Ship or a random concept that you can extrapolate if the sun is in the right part of the sky and you’re standing on the side side of the show squinting at it. Everything Dean and Cas do together and often away from each other is part of a massive narrative where their point of reference is the other and that narrative is one of the most compelling things about the show. The thing I don’t just love but utterly adore. It’s a story beyond stories and boundaries and it’s spilled out of the show and spilled out of Cas’s original 5 appearances or whatever, and it’s spilled into the fandom and our lives and every love song on the radio or romantic trope you see in a corny movie. It’s ridiculous and huge and it’s just THERE in the story. It doesn’t matter if some people don’t believe in it. In a literary, justice-aside way it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t ~go canon~ in some way that satisfies 99% of people that it actually happened because it doesn’t become real in that instance.

(Of course it fucking matters that it should go canon in the “what is fair and right and this is going to be horrible if it doesn’t and the show is going to have a reckoning for that. Of course it is. I’m not thinking about that right now because it’s not currently needed. The show’s still going. I can roll up my sleeves but why the fuck would I throw punches right now? The show is still airing so they still have a chance. A ticking timebomb chance but I don’t function in negativity. I don’t wait for it to go wrong or them to fuck it up. I don’t sit here EXPECTING it not to go canon because I’m enjoying myself NOW.)

The way you look at what I’m doing is so utterly sad and miserable to me. I can’t imagine how you feel and it hurts me that something has hurt you this badly that you can���t even deal with other people enjoying something you used to love, that you are just looking at us waiting for it to blow up in our faces, thinking that us enjoying something and sharing the things we find fun, the things we love, is doing some toxic harm. It breaks my heart. Fandom is toxic but not because of the people who are still writing love letters to the show and caught up in the fun part of being a fan, the part where you want to talk about the show and enjoy its characters and stories and ideas all day. Fandom is toxic because some people have stopped loving it and created this horrible miasma of looming disappointment, made other people wait for it. Spread it that meta writers are sitting on a wobbling throne on a very narrow crumbling pedestal that’s going to collapse.

Last time I got a gloomy anon, the other week, I said something like that it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t go canon in the literary analysis sense, in the sense that Destiel was real, and that to me this blog is building the enormous, to me sprawling mountainous foundation I sit on of what is IN the show, what I love about it, what to me can never ever ever ever be taken away, not by any future plot twist or crappy endgame. My interpretation is my own and it’s vast and it fills every nook and cranny of the show. I have meta’d every nook and cranny of the show. I have wrung every freakin morsel of Destiel out of it from season 1 right through to present moment and stowed every last drop on this blog, proudly labelled and beamed at as I set them into place, and then I wander those shelves happily enjoying my vast collection of Things That Happened On The Show, from the smallest beer label lol to the vastest narrative meaning. 

In this day and age we NEED to learn to be happy and enjoy the small things, the things that bring us comfort, the things that might get us through a day. We can’t when people spread evil toxic miasma of negativity through the fandom. 

So I am going to continue posting Destiel and writing ‘i love this’ when I talk about it and other people can either learn to love it or swallow the poison that makes them hate the thing that used to bring them comfort. Because I love the show and I don’t think that has anything to do with Destiel or with meta or whatever. The meta is me explaining WHY I love a thing. It is not desperately sitting on my knees scrabbling around in the mud looking for a single beer label floating by. The beer labels are a bonus on an excellent story. 

And this is not a defence. This is an explanation. Like everything else. Take it as you will or stop sending negative poison to people. I’m uncomfortably well-adjusted but I’m just me and I hate the idea of you hurting someone else with this garbage.

1. Dream job?

My “practical” (a.k.a. “boring”) dream job is the one I’m going for right now which is a clinical psychologist. I want to help people with my profession because I don’t have the luxury or talent of helping people in other ways (i.e. art, money, etc.). 

But if I could be anything in the whole wide world, I’d be either an author or a screenwriter. I love, love, love creating stories, and I’d love to see them on a screen, as well. The problem is, I don’t have the willpower or the talent to follow through with this dream. Not to mention, I’m so paranoid about financial security, that I’m too big of a wimp to go for it. Oh, well! 

2. French Mistake or Changing Channels?

I’m gonna cheat and say: both.

The one I find myself going back and watching more often than the other one is “Changing Channels.” It’s just sort of a comfort episode for me in that it’s funny and it has so many of my favorite characters in it.

However, if I made a “Favorite SPN Episodes” list (which I have), “The French Mistake” would rank higher than “Changing Channels” because it’s just so good. 

So, I guess it depends on how you look at it. I guess as an overall answer based on my opinion of the quality of the episodes, I’d probably pick “The French Mistake.”

3. What song has been stuck in your head lately?

I don’t really listen to music all that much anymore. At least not frequently enough to have songs stuck in my head. So, I’ll tell you the song I most recently played on repeat. 

It is: “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur. 

The reason I’ve had it on repeat is because @markiplier did a cover of it (x), and it’s beautiful. He’s been working on preforming songs for his audience for so long, and I’m so proud of him. He killed this song (in a good way), and it made me so relaxed and happy. Go Mark!

4. Who is your favorite female Supernatural character?

Rowena. Rowena all the way. Don’t get me wrong, Jody is a close runner-up. Donna is also.

But nothing can beat that Scottish fire, baby. Not for this chick.

5. What’s your favorite food?

I don’t have one? That’s the simple answer, I guess. I love shrimp a whole fuckin’ lot, though, so if I had to pick one food, it’d be shrimp.

6. Favorite season?

Fall. I mean, right? Fall is the best. Spoopy times (yes, I say spoopy, come at me), sweaters, candles, colored leaves, good food, good shows. Fall is just the best.

7. Take out or home-cooked meals?

Okay, so I prefer to eat home-cooked meals, but I actually eat take-out more often. In fact, I’m about to order take-out right now. It’s just more convenient, and I hate myself for it, but I’m a broke college kid, so what can you do?

8. How has the internet/fandom changed you?

So many ways. I’ve made new friends, I’ve found myself, I’ve found family through certain shows, I’ve learned my values and what I’m willing to fight for, I’ve learned to be helpful in anyway I can to anyone I can be helpful to, I’ve found people that I can really look up to and aspire to, I’ve found people who are real and who don’t judge based on differences, I’ve found out about my own unique sense of humor, I’ve learned to take criticism properly, I’ve learned how to take care of myself, I’ve learned about and talked to the most beautiful people and actors and fans, I’ve become the happiest I could ever be because of fandom. I’ve found a place where I truly belong. Fandom has made me me. 

9. Favorite ships?

Where do I begin? You’ve cursed yourself with this one, @tobythewise, because this is gonna be a LONG list! (I’m secretly thanking you for giving me a reason to gush :) I’m gonna keep it to my main one for each show because otherwise we’d be here all day.

Destiel. 100%. They are my #1 OTP. I guess that statement is kind of redundant. Honestly, I don’t know of any other ship that is this heartbreakingly beautiful. They mean so much to me, and I’m so happy I get to witness their journey together.

Spuffy. Probably my #2 ship, if I had to put them in order. Again, an absolutely beautiful relationship. It’s real, it’s raw, it’s rich. It’s just a lovely story of two truly good people coming together and loving each other despite the flaws.

Pleo. Is that the ship name for Piper and Leo from Charmed? Well, anyway, they’re my #3 and a perfect example of how love can literally transcend anything. This is probably my first ship ever... wow.

Delena. Gotta get my TVD in there, comin’ in at #4. I don’t think any other ship has made me cry as much as this one. Not to mention, this ship actually being endgame was completely unexpected to me. Which made it way better to watch. They’re just... omg, beautiful.

IchiRuki. This is actually a new ship, which is why it’s kind of a surprise that it’s #5, but hey! They were just done so fucking wrong, and they should definitely be together. I mean, they save each other always, they worry about each other always, so why aren’t they together for “Forever and Always” by Taylor Swift??

Bellarke. My #6. I dunno what to say about this ship other than: it’s gonna happen. You know it, I know it, there’s no use denying it. They belong together. That’s all there is to it. 

Clois. For my #7, I’m going with a ship that isn’t really a ship because it was predetermined that these two would end up together before I even started the show of Smallville. Although, there’s people who don’t ship them?? I dunno, the Clark and Lois that are specifically from Smallville are one of my favorites.

Bughead. They’re just cute. I know a lot of people don’t like them, but they’re #8 on my list, so fight me. You can’t take away my adorable, little ship.

Septiplier. Just because I want a YouTube ship on here, I’m going with Mark and Jack for my #9. Because... reasons.

Jyde. That is the best ship name I could come up with for my #10, which is Jackie and Hyde from That ‘70s Show. They were meant for each other, and the writers screwed them bad in the last season. I still haven’t forgiven them.

K/R. Don’t know what K/R is? My #11? Well, I’ll tell you. Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable. Fuck off if you don’t ship them. They are my light, they are my soul, they are my reason for living. They are... my Naco from Bueno Nacho. Beautiful.

10. Do you have a pet?

I do, I actually have three little assholes. (I’m mostly kidding). 

A cat named Kit (after Kit from Charmed, no idea what breed he is, he’s just white and grey), a Shiba Inu named Foxy (because she looks like a fox... unoriginal, I know, but she was prenamed when I got her, so I embrace it), and a Dachshund named Sissy (because she’s a wimp... just kidding, she’s my roommate’s dog, no idea why she’s named that).

HALLOWEEN, BITCH. Fuck literally every other holiday. I will take Jack Nicholson and Ghostface any day over candy hearts and Christmas music.

In the past few days I've read posts claiming that Sam is a psychopath who turns his empathy on and off so easily that it's disturbing, that Sam never cries (lol what?), that Dean is more emotionally mature than Sam, that Sam is egotistical and only cares/thinks about himself, and that Sam demonstrates more toxic masculinity than any other character on the show... I've been in hell basically and I was hoping you could cheer me up by disputing these "claims" with cold hard canon facts.

I’m so sorry you’ve experienced that, Anon!  I fear… you ventured into a truly dark corner of fandom. I have a fair few items on my blacklist to keep me away from that sort of “meta”, because honestly… it’s emotionally exhausting and endlessly frustrating running into such patent drivel.

I don’t know what these people were using to support their claims, so I can’t really refute them. Heck, I don’t know if they brought up solid points or were just angry and baseless. For many of the things you mentioned, I don’t even know where to start, because I can’t imagine what could have given anyone such an impression, but I’ll try to share some thoughts.

Sam is a psychopath without empathy? If anything, Sam’s empathy is always on. It’s always at max, and what these people might be seeing as “turning on and off” is likely Sam trying to redirect his attention elsewhere or deal with/compartmentalize his feelings. It could also just be a gross misinterpretation of introverted emotional expression. But also, let’s be real: the Winchester boys are soldiers. They’re fighting to keep people safe. They have to make choices that we can’t even fathom. A lot of times, these choices are not clear-cut and smelling of roses. Either way, someone will die. People will hurt. And these two, without the benefit of a hierarchy or large support group or court of law–in the heat of the moment–have to make decisions. People who find Sam “cold” or—God forbid, psychopathic? What the ever-living heck?—may simply not understand the magnitude of the decisions these boys must make.

Sam never cries? WHAT EVEN. What the hell even. First of all, crying is not the be-all-end-all of emotional expression. Some people cry regularly. Some people don’t cry for years at a time. And you know what? The former don’t feel things more strongly than the latter. People express grief and sadness and frustration differently. Some people feel numb. Some people get angry. Some people feel miserable but can’t cry. Some people drown it in drink. Some people blame themselves. Some people simply haven’t been taught that it’s okay to give vent to negative emotions, or grew up in an environment where expressing them was weakness and subject to mockery (*raises hand*) And… for the people who said that, may I kindly direct them to my crying Sam tag, because I have like seven pages of misty-eyed canon Sam for them to feast their eyes on. (Um. Geez. I swear there’s an explanation for the fact that I–that I have a tag for that. Uh.) ANYWAY. *clears throat* What even. 

Sam is not as emotionally mature as Dean? I can’t even dignify that one with an answer. Well. Actually. I believe Sam is, in many ways, more emotionally mature than Dean. Where Dean resorts to blame-shifting, violence, anger, and denial when it comes to things he doesn’t like, Sam acknowledges his mistakes and is aware of his unhealthy coping mechanisms (…while still  using them). THAT SAID, I don’t think I can state that Sam is more mature in general, because, well… Dean vents. He gets angry, he finds ways to release it, and he generally finds ways to settle into a sort of balance and keep going. On the other hand, Sam represses to the extent that it drives him to his breaking point. See Mystery Spot. See s4, where he was literally suicidal after Dean’s death. See any number of other times. At any point, I think Sam is a hairsbreadth away from breaking, and while there are a ton of things I love and respect about Sam, a lot of them are rooted in some really unhealthy habits. So… in many ways, Sam deals with things more maturely, understanding all angles. But he also truly just needs decades of hugs and therapy because wow.

Sam is an egotistical bastard? I would advise people who think Sam only cares about himself to watch Swan Song, then The Man Who Knew Too Much, and then Sacrifice, and then Nightmare, and then… the whole freaking show, actually. How Sam regularly puts the safety of others above his own welfare. How, even while grieving Jessica, in the beginning of the very first season, he threw himself bodily between two strangers and a Wendigo. How he was broken to pieces by his visions of death but unable to save the victims. How, later, Ruby’s perfectly calculated way to make him start drinking demon blood again was to imply that he might, by inaction, cause the deaths of innocents if he didn’t suck it up, drink the blood, and save the world. And Ruby knew Sam, played him masterfully. If anyone in the world knew how to get to Sam, she did. And she did so not by appealing to a desire for personal gain, but by implying that Sam’s desire to stop drinking blood might be selfish. And if that’s not enough, I’d like them to take a look at Soulless!Sam, who could have done anything but chose to continue hunting. Soulless!Sam, the single most stable and consistent soulless person in the entire show, whose admitted motivation for remaining soulless despite knowing he was “wrong” was that things didn’t hurt as much. Seriously. Come at me. Anyone who thinks Sam is egotistical has not seen the show or is picking events out of context and trying to apply some isolated events to the entire show.

Sam displays more toxic masculinity than any other character? What the…what even? What the heck? I would love to see the support for this argument, I really would. While both brothers display some unhealthy habits undoubtedly adopted thanks to their impossibly tough life and their upbringing… claiming that Sam is the poster child for toxic masculinity is just laughable. I could talk about why, but first let’s just look at a quick definition: 

Toxic masculinity is a narrow and repressive description of manhood, designating manhood as defined by violence, sex, status and aggression. [… S]upposedly “feminine” traits – which can range from emotional vulnerability to simply not being hypersexual – are the means by which your status as “man” can be taken away. Sex, in particular, is an important part of “being a man”. […] The need to “get” sex is all-encompassing because the more of it you have, the higher “status” you have as a man.You’ll notice how often sex and sexlessness comes up as an insult when a man wants to insult another man. (x)

Let’s just take a moment and ask ourselves. For which of our leads are sexual conquests important? Which character looked at cheerleaders and leered that he could tell which ones were legal? Which one finds peace in violence and resorts to violent ways of expressing himself before any other? Which one calls the other “bitch” and uses feminine terms as a way to demean someone? Which one pushes the other to have sex or act aggressive/sexual? Which one regularly calls women opponents “bitch” without any real evidence or reason? Spoiler: it’s not Sam.

And here’s the thing: toxic masculinity isn’t something where we can point out someone who displays the traits of it and call that person awful. It’s not quite as simple as that. Toxic masculinity isn’t a person. It’s an unhealthy, pervasive set of expectations. Heck, yeah, it’s terrifying and harmful to women and anyone who doesn’t conform or accept it. But it’s not the people we need to fight, but the overwhelming pressure and the media portrayals and the way it’s freaking exalted as the “right” way to “be a man.” On some level, there is an element of choice in adopting these beliefs and a certain amount of personal responsibility to… I dunno, not be an asshole, but in a lot of ways, it’s like showing commercials about grapes and making movies about grapes and rewriting history to feature grapes and then expecting no one to eat grapes. The hunting community in Supernatural, I’m afraid, is full of said grape-glorification. There’s no excuse for what some of them do, but they have ample reasoning for acting that way. (And if we’re talking levels of grape-hood on SPN, then I’m gonna have to say that Dean displays the highest levels of grapeliness, objectively.)

Haha, I hope this helped, Anon! I hope you’re able to blacklist the types of people who are saying those things. Personally, I’ve found it’s just unpleasant and ultimately fruitless (pun not intended) to engage cruel and baseless claims like that. Oh god guys. Guys. I don’t know like I’ve written so much fucking shit I have no idea, but okay first thing I can think of JUST ON AO3 IF I START GOING WITH LJ I’M NEVER GONNA FINISH is the ending of take a sad song and make it better because like I’m shit at metaphors or anything like that and... idk this one came out really well I think?

He’s taken his sad song and made it not just better but great, and maybe for the first time in his life he feels completely at harmony with the entire fucking universe and when Robb’s tongue touches his own he parts his lips with a sigh and kisses back even harder.

They only stop when they hit their heads against the damned ceiling and Robb bursts out in laughter, but they don’t crash down to the ground and Theon’s more than ready for it when they kiss again –

and maybe now he knows what his favorite song is.

It’s the one he’s living in, he realizes as his heart soars, and he kisses Robb back, and they don’t come down on the ground for a long time.

For the first time in his life, it feels like the natural state of things, and maybe that’s not the best thing of all (that one’s that he finally went through with this and confessed his damned feelings and that Robb wants him back), but it’s just up there along with all the almost-favorite songs he has already.

2/ For which work/piece of work do you get comments telling how marvelous it is, while you’re not that enthralled by that piece yourself?

More than not being enthralled (because I thought it was an okay crack fic)... well, five people who didn’t believe Ned Stark for one second about Jon’s paternity and one who did has an inhuman number of hits/kudos and it’s probably in my most popular top ten fics and like... it’s less than 2k words of crack and I wrote it in twenty minutes I swear XD I’d have never thought that would get so popular though I guess the subject lends itself to it but like there’s shit I worked on for weeks that doesn’t have a tenth of the hits, IDK GUYS XD but I don’t hate it or anything I thought it came out pretty nice. I just wasn’t expecting it. XD

3/ Which character highjacked the story they’re in?

Theon in when they built you, brother, they broke the mold (iT’S ABOUT ROBB AND JON BUT HE WANTED TO BE IN IT AND WHO AM I TO DENY IT) and jaime in you sang me a song as pure as the breeze (ngl jaime was the best thing about that story and it was ABOUT NED AND CAT FALLING IN LOVE GUYS XDD). we could also make a case for davos in some flowers bloom dead because he was supposed to be in it for one chapter and then he’s staying until the end lol.

4/ Which sentence/kind of sentence do you overuse?

Really. I use really too much. And people opening a sentence with well. And I do extra long sentences but I don’t care anymore about that. XD

5/ Which work of yours would you be dying to get fanart for?

I’ve got some fanart for a few fics but okay let’s admit it I’d die for fanart of either any scene from some flowers bloom dead or anything from the everything is cupcakes and (mostly) nothing hurts verse? that one lends itself to fanfic I think. or the jb mutant au fic especiallythefinalscene but I mean if anyone does fanart out of shit I write I’m overtly flattered <3  

6/ Which work would you rather forget?

half of the crap I wrote at fourteen with OCs lol. out of the current stuff I have on... eh. a pinch hit I did for gotexchange years ago which... was... let’s just say writing it was hell on earth for reasons even if I liked the ship and I’m still so conflicted about it I never put it on ao3. now someone who knows who they are read it and said it was actually good so I might just put it on ao3 for closure but I never hated writing a fic for characters and a pairing I liked as much as I hated writing that one, blergh.

7/ Do you have a project you never got the nerves/guts to write?

My problem is that I don’t have time, not that I don’t have nerves or guts, but like there’s this psych ward au where theon has DID which has been sitting on the list for years but I’m like... I don’t want to fuck it up because I really don’t want to be the person who writes fic about mental disorders and does it wrong, but if actual psychiatrists still don’t agree on whether DID exists how do I do it damn it XD also I... kinda... want to do the canon verse fic where jaime actually realize the depth of fuckedupness his rship with cersei was and has to deal with the backload of ptsd he has been bottling up since he was fifteen and with the fact that he was in an emotionally abusive mess of a relationship for all of his life but like, a) I need to be in the right frame of mind, b) I’m entirely aware that it’s an unpopular way of seeing things, c) idk if I trust myself to be objective. so.

ah, and then there’s... a thing... that... I don’t even know if I want to mention what it is but let’s just say that if I ever write it I’m sharing it via email with selected people because if I actually posted it in public tumblr would crucify the shit out of me (spoilers: it’s... about... making fun of tumblr’s brand of idiocy in very unpolitically correct ways) so lol if I ever get there it’s gonna see the light of public day after this website crashes and burns. XD

dunno, if you count LJ it’s asoiaf/lost/spn on a more or less equal basis. I have like some 200 fics for asoiaf/got but back in the day I wrote definitely at least 200 for lost and more than 100 for SPN so XDDDDDD no idea probably asoiaf if we take the sheer wordcount amount but XD

Scientific? As I know very little of that matter, I’ll go with “The Lion King” this movie taught me when I was young: It’s all of the people important in our lives that are gone and they’re watching over us. I know it’s not like that, but I’ve lost so many people in my life that it gives me comfort thinking that they’re watching over me :)

A few. Actually that’s kinda part of my job. We know since the first semester that people might think alike, but not the same. interpretations are tricky. And that means in everything not just books or movies/tv shows.
