Supersons +1 prompt answer
If you asked Danny, 12 year old half-ghost hero of Amity Park, how half-life was going, he'd tell you things were mixed.
On the one hand, he had just spent the last three or four months in family/scientist/'this house is a death trap waiting to happen' therapy with Jazz, and by some miracle, it worked. He wasn't sure if this was some kind of dream as his parents poured over years upon years of research, crossing out lines, rewriting equations, and reevaulating everything they thought they knew about ghosts.
Was the shudders family therapy worth not going over how they'd like to dissect him? he's still not sure. The horror.
Not to mention the attention. Danny was sure he was going to throw up if his parents drag him away for more bonding time, only for a ghost to attack and for him to run off to transform. What made it worse was when the Fentons came barrelling out, guns blazing, alternating between getting mad that he'd interrupted their family time, and asking him questions about "Your suspicious spook culture, if you even have one you dangerous delusional delinquent!"
At least they were trying, but Danny was very much comfortable not spilling the beans on the whole half-ghost situation, thank you very much.
And that's why, when Dad proposed to take him to Gotham to show off their latest invention, he jumped at the chance. The home city of the Batman, one of the greatest heroes known to man (except for Martian Manhunter and Superman of course) and Dad promised to take him to Gotham Observatory too. Not to mention how much he wanted to get away from Jazz's smug looks of superiority. Gotham here he comes!

Damian Wayne scowled as he scanned the crowed of scientists with more smarts than sense. Really, a flying toilet seat. For what deviant?
"Maybe they're for people who can fly." Kent piped up beside him. Father had let the two of them run off together, and his company was mildly more appealing than being alone with his thoughts.
"Why would Superman ever need to relieve himself mid-air. I do not believe you would appreciate your father's rear end being on display for all the world to see."
"True." Jon hummed. His voice lowered to a whisper. "You think indecent exposure is what your dad meant by "scoping out any potential future villains?"
Damian gave Jon a flat look. The sooner this convention ended, the better.
The crowded shifted, and the mass of visitors pushed toward a certain corner, where a man large enough to rival Superman's build stood upon a podium, with a boy their age off to the side.
"Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce to you the latest in FentonWorks' innovations, the Fenton Ghost Zone Radar, soon to revolutionise the study of ghosts!"
"I thought ghosts were a magic thing." Jon said. "You know, stuff Constantine and JLD deal with."
"They are."
"Mixing magic and science is like, like, oil and water. No way this guy's serious, is he?"
"His name is Jack Fenton. That's Daniel Fenton, his son." Damian pointed to the boy in question, looking like he'd seen this scene a hundred times before, but with that knowing glint that promised something deeper. "They're normally spotted alongside Jack's wife, Madeline. Widely regarded as quacks by the larger scientific community for chasing paper-thin theories about ghosts, they've nonetheless gained funding from the government. This is the first time they've left their base of operations in Amity Park for years."
"Woah, you know your stuff, Dami!"
Damian glared at the young Superboy in disguise. "I read the briefing files. Didn't you?"
Kent looked uncomfortable and looked away. "Uhh, maybe?"
"Typical."
"Well, if he's so crazy, then why'd your dad even let him in." Upon another scathing glare, Kent relented. "Oh right, the whole supervillain thing."
"Enough chatter. We'll zero in on the younger Fenton. I intend to squeeze him like a grape, and make Father proud."
"Dami maybe you should be a little nicer-" Only for Damian to march off without him.
Honestly, inane niceties were above someone of his status. Those things were Superboy's job, and if Daniel Fenton wouldn't crack, then Damian was itching to try a new torture technique.

i recently started back on all my meds. as happy as i am to get back on them, i noticed how. quiet? everything is? i dont know if what i have is schizophrenia or psychosis, if there's a difference, but im on antipsychs for it. im just confused as to why i feel my mind as quiet now, esp because ive never had auditory hallucinations. im wondering if anyone else feels the same and if its good or not?
Hi there!
Your experience isn't uncommon at all. Antipsychotics, broadly speaking, makes it harder for certain kinds of signals to get sent in the brain. The result is that some of the things that would previously reach consciousness no longer will on antipsychotics.
If you think of your brain as a soup full of processes, then your consciousness is the clear top of the soup. At the bottom of the soup there's all kinds of ingredients and that's the subconscious processes, like when your mind is mulling over a problem, and suddenly you get the answer without having actively thought about - that comes from the depths of the soup.
Really it's not so mysterious. The brain has to do a lot of things and keep track of a lot of things, and if we had to be conscious about all lf them, it would be exhausting (and impossible). So most of it stays submerged.
The clear top part of the soup then is the things you're conscious of. It's the thoughts and feelings that you have direct access to/that make up your experience.
When you take antipsychotics, it makes the soup less see-through. So things that would previously have been visible in the clear top part of the soup now aren't visible anymore. This can be quite helpful if your consciousness has become very messy, and ideas and experiences that don't really make sense (like delusions and hallucinations) are taking up too much attention in your consciousness. But it also means that when you take antipsychotics it takes more effort for any type of thought or emotion to rise far enough up in the soup for you to perceive it.
People on high dose antipsychotics have described it as "I have to actively make myself think, to think". They have to stir the soup pot and stare intently into it.
So long winded soup metaphor apart, the point I'm getting at is that antipsychotics absolutely can and do make your mind "quieter". That can be a good thing if your mind is very cluttered and loud, but it can also feel empty.
Only you get to decide whether it's a good thing for you or not.

folks, dont do this. like, one, my a/n on coping skills thru the last like five updates make it abundantly clear that i am going to Major Medical Bullshit and if there is ever a good reason to put a creative project on hold, its to recover from almost dying several times in a short span
but also, there is never any reason ever at all full stop, to include a line in ur fic comment to this effect. if you assume something isnt going to be updated ever again, you keep that to urself before slapping it at the author is a damned good way to ensure it doesn't get touched again. its passive aggressive and shamey, and while i dont think it was the intent of the commenter to read that way, it still fuckin sucks. the rest of the comment was lovely appreciation for my smut and characterization. it could have easily started with "i gotta say" as the lead in instead of the above and it would have made me excited and joyous to touch this project again now that im starting to feel like a whole human again, after, you know, almost dying a lot
and instead im just frustrated and mad
so dont do this

Henry : Have you heard of a Lord named Byron?
Alex : yes, but I won't be seduced by your romantic poetry. I'm only about heterosexual bro-jobs and heterosexually making out in hot tubs with guys. Naked. No feelings. It's normal.
Henry : I'll never fuck him but I will answer all of his calls & texts because he isn't only hot he's also surprisingly insightful... I will die alone.
Alex : I can't wait to see hot Henry but I won't tell anyone, not even myself.
Henry : That's a lot of calls and texts from an heterosexual man, I wonder? no. NO ! Think of the crown Henry
Alex : Let me flirt with you in a totally heterosexual way. Do you like meeee yet?
Henry : not very heterosexual of you if I'm honest... but that girl on your lap is. My sad life is getting sadder
Alex : Henry sad? Why? Let me leave all the babes and walk in the snow until I get pneumonia for you Henry
Henry : I can't have him and he doesn't want me anyway. I'm double crushed. My whole body is made of despair
Alex : Why do I feel guilty standing under a tree, Henry?
Henry : I'm triple crushed now that I've realised you can't even relate to never having been an anonymous person. You suck balls, Alex, and regrettably, not mine.
Alex : I can't realise you're talking about not being straight or I'll have to think about those totally heterosexual things I did with guys in a new way
Henry : let me get you there faster, then.
Alex : Damn it! Those bro-jobs & naked making outs weren't heterosexual at all! Who would have thought?!

had to drop $812 at Midas today for all new tires/a realignment, and then i got home to find wimsey bleeding like a stuck pig from a giant gash across the underside of his neck (not sure if one of the other cats literally went for the throat, or if he just clawed all the fur and skin off), and then i had to work an extra two hours to make up for the Midas jaunt, so today has just been A Day.

you guys are talking about peeling chicken nuggets but has anyone else bite around the carrot center? like i eat the outer thicker layer then the thinner part, i saw my sister do it when i was younger now its just the way i eat them
I do that when I'm bored sometimes just for fun, but I like sauce a lot and I'm usually dipping my whole carrot in ranch or creamy italian before chomping the whole thing
That's if I'm eating them raw though, carrots in a good bone broth stew, cooked JUST enough to be soft but not enough to be mushy, is a religious experience.

Y’know I kinda wanna elaborate on the HC I mentioned, where I said that if Donald hadn’t found out what Douglas was doing and intervened, Douglas would’ve eventually cracked and fessed up
Mostly I wanna elaborate that he wouldn’t have fessed up because of ethical guilt (though I do think he may have something somewhere inside him that would give a damn about ethics. He did seem pretty excited to do good things after all) but more because he’s got the emotional strength of a wet tissue and would feel personal guilt after getting so attached
I’m gonna put most of it under a cut ‘cause it turned into a full on Douglas study I guess
Like... obviously I’m prefacing this with it being my own interpretation of the guy, but Douglas was a pretty emotional dude in the show. His entire redemption was rooted in his emotional attachment to his family. His morals never 100% improved, and the growth we did see was almost entirely motivated by “My family won’t like me if I’m a bad guy :(”
And while he’s not a particularly GOOD dad, he is a dad. Literally every kid Douglas gets more than 2 minutes of screen time with, he goes into some kind of Dad Mode
So, the way I see it, I don’t think Douglas would’ve lasted if he got to keep the Rats for longer than he did. It’s never actually said how old the kids were when Donald found out, but they couldn’t have been older than like... 3? Tops? Possibly even younger, technically. If Douglas actually got to watch those kids grow up in whatever messed up environment he had them in to keep them hidden (Which, I’ll be honest- based on comparing the brothers’ lab quality, was probably a worse environment than Donald’s lab) I don’t think he would’ve been able to commit. Not with the original trio, anyway
ALSO. I wanna bring up Donald, ‘cause he’s also a factor in of himself
Yeah, the brothers fight a lot, and did fight a lot. But I think it’s worth remembering that despite that, these two founded a company together. They invented things together. They work together seamlessly when they get in the zone. Douglas, despite all the animosity, was ecstatic at the prospect of getting to work alongside his brother again, and was genuinely sad when Donald didn’t feel the same, but chose not to fight Donald’s decision
Douglas cares what Donald thinks of him, and I bet he cared a lot more before Donald discovered what was happening and made his own judgement call. The two of them had to have been incredibly close, and that probably would’ve weighed on Douglas, too
But Donald found out on his own, and he didn’t waste time. He saw the children, he saw the conditions, the plans, the schematics. There was absolutely no way to rationalize what was happening here, Donald had to get these kids out and away. His little brother was using their assets to make deals with terrorists regarding the creation of bioweapons in the form of children
And Douglas was left ghosted by the most consistent presence in his life for the past 20+ years, locked out of the company he helped build from nothing, and separated from these kids who have also been a consistent presence in his life for entirely different reasons
And Douglas is notorious for deflecting and pushing back when someone else decides that he’s in the wrong. All that potential turmoil means the time between Donald finding out and Douglas “dying” was probably like. Intense. To put it mildly
All this to say: Douglas is still a DICK lmao and the point of this post is NOT to be like “Douglas deserved better” or even “Donald is to blame.” It’s more about how Douglas is a notably emotion-driven character and how it affects his dynamics and actions, both positive and negative
It’s also my favorite kind of angst- where technically, things could have turned out okay, or at least better than they did, if everyone involved hadn’t been such a mess
