also if i may ask, what's your favorite silent hill game? and should they be played in their particular order, or is it ok to just pick any part of the series and enjoy the ride from there? i remember watching a silent hill 3 stream a while ago and absolutely loving that game, never played the others though; i would love to get deeper into the series and that's why i decided to ask you about that :P

HEYYYYY!!!! Thank you, I don't know how far I am in the game but I am certainly having fun! RPG Maker games have always been one of my faves, so Omori just took its rightful place amongst the other well-known gems :) I usually just scroll through Tumblr, reblogging stuff /w comments in the tags but if the need arises - I will gladly scream at you haha. I love love LOVE games that may fuck you up a bit (or not a bit) - psychological horror is one of my faves.

Okay, now THAT is a question I love to hear, as well as the second one. Long-long talk ahead, so I'll put it under the cut for convenience.

My faves are the games that are considered "Classic Silent Hill quadrilogy". Yes, all of the four - even though, if I'm perfectly honest, SH1 and SH3 are THE Faves actually, mostly because of the "Fucked Up Cultist Bullshit" parts of the series and the familial connection of the protags (in SH1 we play as the father, in SH3 we play as his grown-up daughter) who I love dearly. Also Alessa, the one who brought The Fog World and The Otherworld to life.

Many people consider Silent Hill 2 a good part to get into the series (as in to see what the series is all about, its main themes and its "psychological horror" style), and I agree! BUT - if you want to know the actual origins of all fucked-up stuff of that small town you better go with the first part, Silent Hill (1999) (or even another part about which I'll talk in a bit). There's no actual PC version of it out there but there are hacked PSOne versions which can be easily emulated.

Now, SH1 and SH3 are directly connected via story and characters, SH2 and SH4 are mostly standalones BUT connected together via some plot details. So I advise to follow this order of playing because it goes along with the canonical chronology of events:

Silent Hill 1 -> Silent Hill 3 -> Silent Hill 2 -> Silent Hill 4: The Room

(also for the love of everything DO NOT PLAY THE HD COLLECTION VERSIONS OF SH2-3; they're horrible and glitchy as PC ports and the voice acting was changed and it's WORSE than the original; look for Enhanced Editions)

All games that came after these four are considered of, well, lower quality and not as well-thought through. Which is true BUT: - Silent Hill Origins may also be good to look into because it's a prequel to the first game but better to just watch a playthrough in my opinion before going to the first part (I had too much of a hard time emulating it and... eeeehhh I didn't really like the gameplay even if it tried to be like in the "classic" ones); - Silent Hill Homecoming can be looked into as well even though it's the most hated one of all the Silent Hill games, story-wise and gameplay-wise. For me, I actually found some interesting details in it that I liked (again, mainly The Fucked-up Cultist Bullshit) so I don't hate it as much as any other SH fan. Again, though, better just watch the playthrough - the game, even if it has a port for PCs, is awfully broken and HARD to play by yourself.

There are also in the Main Series: Silent Hill Shattered Memories (a reimagining of the first game minus The Cult Stuff) which is... not that important to everything in the Main Storyline, it's basically an AU; and Silent Hill Downpour that can look kinda plain and boring after everything else because it copies plenty of the tropes that were in the previous games. They may be ignored (but in the end it's up to you of course - you may look into them as well).

So yeah, here we go! The games can be divided into two types basically (with SH Shattered Memories as an outsider):

Shit happens because of The Local Cult, involving innocent bystanders (chronologically - SH Origins -> SH1 -> SH3 -> SH4 The Room -> SH Homecoming);

Shit happens because people with heavy burden get trapped in their own nightmares and inner demons brought to life (SH2 and SH Downpour).

Tl;dr What's the best order to PLAY: SH1 (emulated on ePSXe) -> SH3 (Enhanced Edition) -> SH2 (Enhanced Edition) -> SH4 The Room (Enhanced Edition or GOG Ver.)

What's the best order to WATCH AS A PLAYTHROUGH for the story: SH Origins -> SH1 -> SH3 -> SH2 as a small breaker but it's needed -> SH4 The Room -> SH Homecoming

📄It's obvious that Chloe literally adores punk rock and possibly heavy metal music. She's also a HUGE PissHead fan, from listening to Skip's demo to then asking if she can hear more of his music.

🖤She doesn't wanna admit it but she definitely sees Skip as an older brother figure, they're basically family and they have such a sweet bond together.

📄Chloe and Steph are actually pretty close in Before The Storm, from how Steph asks Chloe for permission to ask Rachel out and how she's okay with Chloe venting to her if she wanted to.

🖤Her favourite songs are Nothing Wrong - Pisshead and Everything Reminds Me Of Her - Elliot Smith. (those are all literally my favourite songs as well..oops)

🖤Can Kate cook? Yes, she could totally make a living out of her talent but she just isn't into that for a career.

📄She never really has anything bad to say about anyone, she doesn't believe in being mean to other people because that just isn't in her blood.

Piano-centric video game tracks that I associate with Vivia

A majority of these songs are from my character playlist, but I feel like being my music man self and wanna ramble a lil bit about them while providing individual links to each song.

Darkness Falls (Deltarune) - The og piano-centric track I tied to Vivia like it was wrapped around his finger. Fits his sense of mystique and storybook-esque view of the world to a T.

My Castle Town (Deltarune) - I feel like this song would be one Vivia could play on his lonesome in the secrecy of the undisturbed hotel. If his perception of peace and quiet were to be a song, this would be it.

Laura Plays Piano (Silent Hill 2) - I'm a HUGE Silent Hill nerd, so it was instinct to pile up a bunch of SH2's tracks on top of Vivia like a warm, heavy comforter. I'm mainly showcasing this one because this song encapsulates the feeling of spectral projecting, wandering unseen among the living and dead. (Please listen to Silent Hill 2's OST, it is filled with so many good piano tracks that feel close to Vivia it pains me)

Breeze - In Monochrome Night (Silent Hill 3) - My personal favorite track from SH3, a slow burn instrumental that remind me of Vivia and Halara's dynamic specifically. I associate Halara with drum kits, as previously discussed in my post about each character's instrument motifs. The piano and drums work in tandem, creating a shockingly well-played duet.

By Your Side (Omori) - The warmth of a rare smile from Vivia, finding genuine happiness in his place within the agency. Surrounded by those who love and care for him, a stark contrast to his horrible home life, Vivia wouldn't trade this tranquility for anything else.

Lost Library (Omori) - The solace of a good book in the homely nook of the fireplace, guided by candlelight. No sooner does he rest just as easily in his own little spot, dreaming sweetly of a better life away from all the difficult truths hiding in a desk drawer across the room.

Guardian Battle Theme (Breath Of The Wild) - Don't you just hate it when your peace and quiet is threatened to be taken away from you? The anger that arises is subtle, but the flash of a blade sprouting from his hand is a clue unaffordable to miss. If you've managed to piss off Vivia, then you've sure as well earned it. Lookin' at you, Yomi.

Wielder Volo Battle Theme (Legends: Arceus) - If one small detective is the only thing that stands between Vivia and his peace and quiet, he'll do whatever it takes to force him away. Since Yuma wishes to see the truth that badly, then he'll have to fight him for it. Neither of them want it to be this way, but they must protect the one they deeply admire, unknowingly colliding into each other's beliefs of who the culprit really is.

Oh- this looks fun!

I love music so much? It's probably obvious because I'm in several bandoms, but I just genuinely love all sorts of music. I listen to a frankly ludicrous range of stuff, from musical theatre to deathcore to city pop to whatever the hell genre the Silent Hill 2 OST falls into. I'm also a huge nerd about lyrics and music theory and another alter even does a little composing work as a little side hobby.

I know I said music, but.... I have to mention Ghost? It's been a special interest of mine since late 2018 and I've seen them twice and even managed barrier one of those times. It's such a comfort fandom for me and even when I find myself wandering musically, I'm still perusing Ao3 and headcanoning things about the Ghouls (I've been accidentally world building Ghoul culture oops) and thinking about them.

Also probably obvious, given that I recently fell back into a hyperfixation related to it, but I genuinely love horror. I have a pretty thick skin when it comes to horror, but I like the creeping uneasy feeling I get from it? I'm currently hyperfixating on slasher horror, but I'm also fond of cosmic, mascot, analog/digital, psychological, and splatter horror. (I think the only thing horror related that I don't like are zombies, and I couldn't even tell you why? I've even given Shawn of the Dead a very fair shot and I'm SO mixed on it?)

I! Love! Drawing! And making things! I'm in the middle of doing pre-production on a game as a lil side project (that I have to take regular breaks from bc of how stressful my day job is 😮‍💨) but I'm actually hoping to fix that and make it less of side project in the near future? But- I've always loved making stories and drawing and making things and I just... Wanna be one of those dudes who makes yet another quirky Earthbound-inspired RPG, and I mean that so lovingly??? I love the MOTHER series and early SMT a lot and that, plus my love of Ghost has definitely, very transparently shaped my game project about a group of semi-Goetic demons trying to start a rock band in Hell. 😅

Here's an obscure pull that you may have seen me share stuff for.... Or you've just known me that long, but I have such a huge fondness for the trifecta of Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals that is CATS + Starlight Express + Phantom of the Opera. I've saw Phantom and the CATS revival on Broadway before they closed too, even sat right under the chandelier. I've loved CATS since I was really little actually! I was obsessed with it in first grade and fell hard into the fandom in high school, which introduced me to Starlight Express via the old Belle's Domain forums. And Phantom was introduced to me when I was 8 during a road trip to Las Vegas with my mom and I fell into a rabbit hole in high school and read the book and the mediocre Kay novel and there's so much art from teen me of the Phantom... I wish I still had the same passion for them I used to sometimes...

You remind me of an English teacher I had in my public highschool: he was punk, but also a huge nerd. He wore something batman-themed every day, and had a motorcycle with a Batman logo on it. I'm pretty sure he had BioShock tattoos and had lots of piercings and jewlery.

i do intend to eventually be a film professor. has to be a professor, not a teacher, because i have no desire to do anything according to academic public school standards. i hate that bullshit, who actually learns like that? anyone who’s good at it just treats it as a game, then you get to college and it’s all downhill because it’s so different.
