Some Ed Norton movie reviews

Wrote some reviews on movies I've seen.

Primal Fear (1996)

Thoughts on his acting: Loved this movie so much! Stellar acting for the first movie. You don’t even see the sudden switch from Aaron to Roy, it happens so fast. Terrifying and confusing Richard Gere in his first movie is not something everyone can do, but Norton did it. The unnerving facial expressions, the dialogues, the stuttering, and the final reveal: “We were just dancing Marty,” showed how talented Norton was to be able to portray someone faking a dual personality.

Fight Club (1999)

Thoughts: This movie felt like I was watching the Twilight Zone. To the unsettling dialogues, to the dim tone of the movie, to Norton acting so bizarre, to Brad Pitt’s cocky manner, this movie was so strange to me. I didn’t find it to be a representation of masculinity. Norton portrays this lonely man who wants some excitement in his life, and doesn't like that he isn’t able to stand up for himself at work. This alter-ego of his (Pitt’s character) that plays in his mind makes him imagine things that aren’t there, say things he really wants to say, in a sense enhancing his personality. He doesn’t realize he has been making decisions about his life, such as starting the Fight Club, Norton did a great job playing a somber, naïve, and sleep ridden character. I personally don’t see the cult status this movie received, but I enjoyed the acting, the soundtrack, and the twist ending. 

The Illusionist (2006)

Thoughts: This is based from the short story by Steven Milhauser. The description of Eisenheim in the story almost matches Norton’s depiction in the movie. This movie and The Prestige was release the same year, causing some stir for debate on which magician movie was better. Norton does a great job in playing a magician—he’s believable, from his hairstyles, beard, and expressive eyes. Jessica Biel did a great job as his love interest, there was a certain chemistry between her and Norton in their scenes.

The Painted Veil (2007)

Thoughts: This is one of my favorite Norton movies. This is based on the book by  W. Somerset Maugham, which was published in the 1920’s. The movie was beautifully taken, and Norton did a fine job with the research of the setting. I love movies that analyze relationships between people, and that’s what this movie is about. His acting as the cold husband, who does love his wife despite her infidelity showed through. Naomi Watts as his wife couldn’t have been a better pairing. Norton has a British accent for the role and is able to keep it throughout the movie  in a believable way.

Birdman (2014)

Thoughts: Well deserved nomination that he got for best supporting actor. The first scene with him jumping into character represents his dual character portrayals—how he can go from unlikable on stage to Shakespeare and soft off stage. I wish there were more scenes with him and Emma Stone's character—perhaps a scene where they both find out about Birdman in the hospital, and her rection to it, and him comforting her.

Collateral Beauty (2016)

Thoughts: The movie’s unusual story line, to everyone’s chemistry, and funny dialogues made this movie enjoyable. Norton plays a divorced father, a step up from his other roles as a singular character. As one of his modern roles, he plays the role naturally and convincingly as always.

Motherless Brooklyn (2019)

Thoughts: My favorite Norton movie, hands down. This is based off the book by Jonathan Lethem. Literally could cry describing how much I love this movie. I just want to give Lionel Essrog a hug; he is my comfort character. He plays a man, Lionel, with Tourette's, who is misunderstood. His acting is incredible in this. With the attention to detail and inclusion of the jazz scene, housing crises, and more, I learned something new. I love how he took the book, and tweaked it to be better in movie format. I also liked Lionel’s chemistry with Laura (Mbatha-Raw), it’s not forced or cheesy, it feels natural to the story.

currently watching: I started "Blue Eye Samurai" today and it's SO GOOD. I should've been in bed like an hour ago, but I had to watch episode 5. It's all I can do to not watch the next one. Highly recommend!

three ships: Oof, this question is always some straight-up Sophie's Choice shit. How do you choose just three when you've been in a thousand fandoms across 20+ years? At the moment, it's probably Dean/Castiel (the evergreen ship, amirite?), Brad/Nate (I'm having my like 5th Gen Kill renaissance since it first aired in 2008), and Bulma/Vegeta (always close to my heart). Runners up include Wangxian, Will/Hannibal, and Crowley/Aziraphale.

favorite color: At the moment, pink!

currently consuming: Plain seltzer. I like my water spicy.

first ship: Oh jeez, probably Usagi/Mamoru (or Serena/Darian, as it was known back in 1995)

relationship status: forever single, yet perpetually hoping to fall into an alternate universe where i took the leap and ended up with the love of my life

last movie: Godzilla Minus One, which was amazing and made both @dandeebakes and @stitchyblogs cry. Go see it immediately.

currently working on: For more than a decade I've wanted to write a Gen Kill canon AU that involves an alien invasion, and I've been outlining it for the last few days. Who knows? Maybe I'll actually write it.

Resident Evil Fancast #2

So, I've already did a Fancast before but it was like...I don't know, years ago? I still like it but now I'm taking more of a "realistic approach" choosing actors that could actually play the characters based on their Hollywood Status and age. I will also be remembering the Remakes when choosing the actors

Ps: I really like the cast of Welcome to Raccoon City and would totally watch them again in a sequel. I just choose not to put any of them here

Chris Redfield

So, for Chris my first choice was Gabriel Basso who stars in The Night Agent, I haven't watched the show but I think he matches the look with the character. He also have that aura of being serious but chill and trustworthy, he is in his late 20's so basically around the same age Chris is in Re1. The second actor is Marco Pigossi, a talented Brazilian actor that stared in Tidelands and will be in the spin-off of The Boys. He also matches the physical description of the character, and also have that aura that Gabriel also have plus those gorgeous charming and kind eyes. And Lastly I picked Dj Cotrona, he is the older of all, being in his 40's, I like his role in the From dusk till dawn tv series and doesn't hurt that he also matches the physical appearance of the character plus he really looks like a military man I don't know.

Jill Valentine

Just by looking at Daniela Melchior you understand why I pick her, he is also in her 20's and have all the talent and charisma necessary to play the character . The second is Adria Arjona cuz I really love the idea of a Latina playing Jill, she in her 30's and has those damn eyes that just get you. Lauren Cohan is a bit older for the role, but she would be the perfect Jill to DJ Cotrona, if the movie wanted to portray them as older characters. Btw, the four protagonists I choose people around the same age to play the characters because I think it would be weird to have a 40'old Chris with a 20'something.

Claire Redfield

Annalise Basso look more like the og Claire Redfield, she is also the youngest of the 3 actresses here and have very kind and loving eyes and features, and she is the youngest sister of Gabriel Basso and I think it would be pretty dope to see two siblings play the Redfield Siblings. Nell Tiger Free looks more like remake Claire, she have that "insta model" look and a "cool girl" vibe, she stars in Servant and is a very promising actress, and for all the Game of Thrones fans, she also played Myrcella Baratheon on the show. And Lastly, Sophie Skelton is the oldest on them, a talented actress that starts in Outlander , her looks is kind of a mix between old and new Claire, she is also have a more mature posture and would be the Claire to Lauren Cohan and DJ Cotrona Jill and Chris

Leon Kennedy

Nicholas Hamilton, the bully in It would be a nice Leon to Annalise's Claire, since they both worked together before in Captain Fantastic. Second we have Nicholas Galatzine , who stars in Red, white and royal blue...I mean look at him, he really looks like remake Leon. Brenton Thwaites is the oldest of them and just have that friendly nice guy face. I think Leon needs someone who could appear/convey adorableness and capable inexperience and bravery. And I think these three fit this.

Albert Wesker

Anthony Starr is the Wesker we always dream of seeing in the big screen and I will die on that hill. Warren Cole is good second choice, I mean he is a himbo in Yellowjackets but he also appeared in The Wilds and damn, he was intimidating there as the homophobic father. Lastly we have Kevin Janssen, I mean, look at him, he just have a villain face c'mon. Also he did portray a real, terrifying bad guy in Revenge (the good revenge corn movie)

For RE1 I think of Kiernan Shipka, Nick Offerman and Jack Quaid as Rebecca, Barry and Brad.

Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 2 we have Jung Ho-yeon as Ada but I also think that Gemma Chan would rock that role. Sterling K Brown is Marvin c'mon. Violet McGraw as Sherry. Andy Garcia would be terrify good was Chef Bryan Iron. And Teddy Sears and Tricia Helder as William and Annette Birkin

Resident Evil 3

Diego Boneta as Carlos Oliveira, just look at the gorgeous hair and beard. Stephen Lang as Mikhail Victor. Igor Jijikine would make Nikolai look even more intimidating. And Trevante Rhodes as Tyrell Patrick

Resident Evil Code Veronica

Ewan Mitchell and Phia Saban from House of the Dragon would be so good as Alfred and Alexia Ashford. Jaeden Martell is basically at the same age of Steve and I think his character needs to be played by a young actor anyway. Tenoch Huerta would be a interesting Rodrigo Juan Raval

Resident Evil 4

Diego Luna would be the perfect cast for Luis Será, not only he looks the part but also has that riz. Sophie Thatcher is a extremely talented young actress who would be able to portray a more develop and cool Ashley, like the one we saw in the Remake. Paula Patton was a nice voice, is elegant and would be a nice choice for Hunnigan, another actress that I think could play the role is Jennifer Connelly. Alan Ritchson as Krauser, I don't think I need to sell this one. Mads Mikkelsen is such an imposing presence on scene, he would be amazing as Osmund Sadler. And Lastly, Jack Gleeson, our beloved Jeffrey Baratheon, would be a perfect Ramon Salazar

on my most recent watch of drive me crazy i've decided that nicole is a lesbian. she doesn't even like brad, she just wants him for status and convention. she straight up asks that girl to take her top off so she can see her nipple piercing. she's kissed a girl before. new reading of this movie is lesbian x ally himbo (mayhaps bisexual who's sexual awakening was the first episode of x files dave showed him and he couldn't decide if he liked scully or mulder more). this makes the end of movie where they find out that their parents are marrying each other not weird bc theyre just gay best friends.

Book Review #1: The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Written by: Stephen Chbosky

Rating: 9.7/10

TLDR: The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a laughingly witty commentary on loneliness in adolescence, while emphasizing the importance of living in the moment and accepting the reality of growing up.

Full Review:

First of all, I just want to say: wow. I'm not sure I've ever resonated with any characters as much as I have the ones in this book. Patrick, Sam, Charlie, and even Brad were so well written I could have sworn they were real people. Their struggles and perspectives on life were stunningly insightful.

YA Books centered on the high school teenager are tired and overdone these days - often written by an adult who has forgotten that teenagers are beings with complex emotions. All we get are regurgitated love stories that remind us romance is dead, or that we may never find our happy endings - but The Perks of Being a Wallflower throws that out the window entirely. None of the characters get some magical fairytale ending, but in the end they find themselves; that kind of peace is what teenagers like me yearn for - the courage to be unapoligetically themselves.

Charlies letters perfectly showcase the turmoil that goes on within a troubled teenager. His painful inability to form meaningful connections in the beginning, later followed by his love for his friends and the hope for a brighter future, is a wonderful reminder that life keeps moving - and we have to participate to enjoy it. Even Brads inability to accept who he was reminded me of my high school days, and what it was like for those who deviated from the status quo.

I would not say that this book would resonate with just anyone, but I can say it resonated with me; this book holds a special place in my heart.

Somewhere along the way, these letters helped me accept the changes in my life too.

Would Reccomend to: Anyone feeling as though they are not ready to grow up, or who feels they are watching their life pass them by.

First of all, that's not fucking true, it's just a part of your fantasy: I am not some distant planet where people walk upside down—your entire life will not irreversibly change simply from "asking me out," whatever the hell that means or how you're planning to do that; nor do you actually even have to ask me out, if that is such a big deal—you can just be my *friend*, if you really care about me... And by that I mean not worrying so much about how *your* life would change if you actually acknowledged my existence to me directly—but how *my* life would change even just a little, which is something no-one seems interested in actually doing for me to this day...

It is the girl with black hair in the silver outfit in the preview and that's her Miley Cyrus it's going to transformation doesn't look much like her it doesn't act like you know she acts like her and she does do things like that and it is her character the way she says things and she's kind of mean she's very direct this movie and seems smarter than normal but she's awake and pay attention because her husband is sonny. And yes she plays Cher later which doesn't make sense but she saying it. And for some reason the youngest trumpster woman gets more pissed in anyone else at Biden. And yes I said hit it right on the head he might be the devil of bahgdad. And I've been looking for him and trying to figure out who he is and he killed her husband's completely by the way and post it our son posted in the low desert.

So here I go off into the movies this is terrific and it looks like I'm putting on the movie face they say people can tell when they're on and it kind of said the last line and I understand that I've been on a little not much but I sort of felt it and it's very weird it's like feeling nothing then also you feel what you're feeling and you're absolutely completely afraid. And people on these movies look like they're massively afraid the whole time because they're being watched so much. I've got to go get them out of there it's not really a robot and somehow it turns into RoboCop and he is still at the facility and we don't know who else is up there looks like cheeseman there and some sort of corporate head person. And yeah he falls out the window again and he falls out the window again as the car guy. You have to get you a parachute started smiling. Yeah black hair I don't look anything like me feel slow down a little while I look a little bit like her and people are going to have a good time watching the movie they say, Chris and ken are going to go get popcorn from the movie theater. He says he can't watch it but Ken can get popcorn and watch it that's terrific you can watch it on the monitor it's going to suck out I know you and Brad had to falling out and wait a minute this makes sense put it back together it looks like s*** and he does the wall thing since he's going to go after Christ people who the hell knows why. And he does that wall thing with the cream and the cream he says he thinks it's the one from the barge not the one from the building and I agree with him it's not that big but the one from Spider-Man versus lizard man it's from the building it's a little later that's coming up then he becomes general grievous and dies and what a pain in the ass he was it is and he's ignorant person I'm sorry stupid enough and now he's very dumb he's yelling at people right to their face we're just going to do with them getting arrested every time it's getting us hit and we don't have anybody and the status of the robots is not good. There's a ton of his stuff out there is soldier robot soldiers all over the place they don't do anything.

i finally found a way to get revenge on y/n and her stupid yet believable pranks, since she loves my brown hair so much, no i did not decide to cut it aunt may would literally murder me if y/n didnt so it before her, i decided to temporarily dye it silver but she doesnt need to know its temporary ;)

y/n/n and i decided to hang out in the evening since i told her i had to go run some errands for may, thankfully she believed  it, so now im on my way to go buy some hair dye....*nervous laugh*

i got the hair dye and i took all the stuff out spreading them on my bathroom counter, i decided to record this coz i dont think ill dye my hair again any time soon, plus it felt like i was filming a youtube video

"ok so i watched a couple of videos before this coz i dont wanna mess this beautiful gem up" i said reffering to my hair "im obviously not gonna bleach it, so lets hope my hair is light enough to show the dye" i prayed and attempted to put my hair in a ponytail and it looked pretty good, i watched how y/n does it on my hair everytime we do face masks but doing it for yourself is wayyy harder

i dyed the side of my hair first getting the dye everywhere, thank god i took the bathroom rug out so it would not get stained, and then took the bun out and sectioned it

"dont let me down brad mondo" i whispered getting even more nervous than i was before i brushed the dye of the first section "i did it" i smiled proudly but then it hit me "i did  it, i did it, this part of my hair is silver! oh my god" i was panicking, what am i doing? this is a prank this is a prank its not real calm down peter

suddenly i got a facetime call from y/n

lit up my screen, i panicked a bit trying to find an excuse to not answer the call or at least not show her my face, but i remembered i was in the bathroom....hopefully this excuse will work

i clicked on 'accept' and waited for her to connect

"hey babyyyy" she beamed, shes cute when shes excited but her smile faded when she couldnt see me "where are you?" she asked

"im in the toilet babe, but i couldnt not answer your call" i laughed trying to act normal and backing up from my phone as much as possible

"oh" she laughed, i wanted to grab something from the counter and i thought i did it carefully but what she said, said otherwise "wait why is your hair silver?" she asked her eyes widening

"wHAT? what do you mean?" i squeeked, i hesitantly put the undyed of my hair to the frame and she sighed in relief "my hair is brown, love nothing to worry about"

"thank god, although you kinda looked like jack frost which was kinda hot....but no no no no i prefer brown, dont even think about it" she warned, i laughed at her statement, it kinda made me more confident, maybe i would look like jack frost "anyways, ill see you in a few, im almost at my house, gotta go, byeee" she said waving her hand at the camera

"byeeee" i put my hand in the frame and waved, she laughed and ended  the call...that was close

after a few curses and an hour of dying my hair, i finished! and im pretty proud of the results, lets just hope my hair doesnt fall out

*A/N: this is the only picture i found of a guy with a somewhat wavy hair so imagine this is him but with messier hair dye and its all over his hair but not till his roots, OH and silver lmao*

so i took a photo of my hair and sent it to ned, he was with me throughout the whole process coz i needed someone to talk to, i usually annoy y/n with my daily rants but i couldnt so ned had to hear me talk abt how Mrs Barbosa gave me extra homework for being late

After I texted Ned, I got a text from y/n/n

"Babyyyy 👀💕: hey Pete, where are we hanging out? My place or yours?"

I told her that she could come to my place because I got a 'surprise' for her, i knew i had to record this so i quickly placed my phone on the desk

"YOUR BITCH HAS ARRIVEDDD!" y/b barges in, flopping on the bed next to me

"h-hey y/n/n" i said laughing at her dramatic entrance but still confused on how she didn't  notice my hair, just act casual, she moved closer to my body looking at the computer thats on my lap

"what are you doing?" she asked curious "

oh nothing, just watching guys surprise their girlfriends with dying their hair a bad color"i laughed acting as casual as possible

"oh thats funny, but if you did that to m- *looks up* *big dramatic loud gasp* PETE- I- WHA- HOW-" her eyes were as big as ever, I've  never seen her this shocked "WHAT HAPPENED TO MY LUCIOUS BROWN CURLS" she shouted completely ignoring my computer and sits on my lap to get a closer look

"YOUR curls?" i laughed

"yes MY curls what happened to the light brown almost hazel in the sunlight curls?" she brushes my hair through her fingers trying to get the dye out "i dont think my brain processed this yet- WAIT YOU DYED IT RIGHT? SO THAT MEANS IT'LL STAY FOREVER?" looked down her mouth parted

"isn't  that what dying your hair means?"

"HOW ARE YOU SO CALM ABOUT THIS I MEAN ITS A WHOLE DIFFERENT COLOR, AND WHY SILVER-ISH GREY?"

"I actually really like it" I said combing my hair through my fingers but she swatted it away so she could look at it more

"babe *laughs* you said I'd look like Jack Frost" I told her tilting my head

"well Jack Frost is hot but you're hott-ER I don't want you looking like Jack Frost because I said so! I love you for who you are....especially your brown hair"

"so if I told I like it you'd be ok with it?"

"Yes if you like it and it's your choice? %100"

"so what if I said it's a prank?" She was gonna nod her head coz she thought it was like the other question but then stopped midway and widened her eyes

"your kidding"

"yes in fact I am" I laugh and point at the camera and she gasps

"you..you....YOU BITCH" she punches my chest jokingly "I ALMOST GOT A HEART ATTACK AND GOT ALL SAPPY AND MUSHY FOR YOU JUST SO YOU COULD PRANK ME?!" she shouts point her hands everywhere "You know I was like scared! Coz you said you liked it and I was like, oh no I gotta get used to this no more chocolate curls, but not as in i lied I just gotta get used to it which added more pressure than I already felt!" She stated but I only laughed even more and awed

"babe don't worry"

"I HAD A MATH QUIZ TODAY" she point at herself "AND YOUR HERE LAUGHING YOUR ASS OFF?? no wait let me sit on the bed since you like when I sit on your lap"

"no no baby I'm sorry" I said while laughing, her face was hilarious

"no you're not! and no kisses till Monday" she huffs and looks at the wall, I give her ten seconds until she turns around to ask one more question, and she did

"hop on the shower we're cleaning the white of you, you Jack Frost wannabe" well more like a demand I huffed but got up with her and turned the recording off

hey jj! i'm incredibly late to the party but i recently rewatched seasons 2-3 (i've watched till the end once before) and i was wondering if you have any thoughts about where brittana stood both off screen in between those two seasons and in the first few episodes of season 3, till "pot o gold" when they become official. i feel like by season 3 a lot is different in comparison to the end of s2 and i'm really fascinated by their relationship in those first three episodes.

So here is the thing: 

The hiatus between S2 and S3 is kind of a lost period in Brittana history. As S2 ended, fans had high hopes that we would see a lot of Brittana development play out in S3, but that’s not really what ended up happening. To be sure, things, as you say, were most definitely different for Brittana once S3 started. It’s just that we didn’t get a lot of answers as to how that difference came about. So much was left open to interpretation and introduced through insinuation.

The bad news is that because the show kind of glossed over this transition in canon, we can’t really say, “The Brittana relationship specifically underwent X, Y, and Z changes between S2 and S3.”

The good news is that we have a lot of room for imagination due to the lack of canon evidence—which means that this time period is open for a lot of headcanon.

If you’ll allow me a good jabber, I’ll do some recounting and offer my take after the cut, okay?

When episode 2x22 “NewYork” originally aired, spoilers per Brad Falchuk suggested that Brittana would end S2 “with abang.” 

Many fans hoped that this “bang” would take the form of a first onscreenBrittana kiss and/or Santana coming out of the closet and/or the girls finally decidingthat they were officially dating.

Instead, the “bang”played out as the Heart Locker, a scene which gave us a reaffirmation ofBrittana’s best friendship, a really sweet hug and a pinky-link, and Brittany tellingSantana that, for them, “anything is possible” because they love each othermore than anything else in the world.

Initially, therelative quietness of this “bang” left many fans feeling underwhelmed. For allthe ups and downs that last six episodes of S2 had provided, Brittana had neverthelessmade very little in the way of measurable progress towards dating. No one wasexactly sure where they stood or even if TPTB at Glee were going to continue topursue a romantic storyline for them come S3.

During the summerhiatus between S2 and S3, rumors and fears abounded. Some fans worried that thewriters might introduce a new love interest for one or both of the girls comeS3. Others worried that once S3 started, Brittana would once again be relegatedto background status and all forward development for them would cease.

As the summercontinued, hopeful spoilers started to leak out, and the fandom allowed itselfto imagine some more favorable scenarios: Maybe Brittana would kiss or startdating in the season premiere. Maybe Santana would begin S3 out. Maybe she andBrittany would already be dating by the time S3 started. Maybe we would seeflashbacks to what they did with their summer vacation or at least hear aboutit in a JBI retrospective.

But, again, thingsdidn’t unfold exactly as the fandom expected.

Episode 3x01 “ThePurple Piano Project” was not the Brittana watershed we were hoping for.

The S3 premiere sawBrittana back on the Cheerios for the first time since episode 2x11 “The SueSylvester Shuffle,” with Santana being awarded dual captaincy with Becky.

In Brittana’s firstscene together, Santana got a lunch tray for her and Brittany to share andwalked with her arm-in-arm to their seats. They did talk to JBI but not abouttheir love lives, only about Santana’s plan to rock her senior year andBrittany’s efforts to assemble a functional time machine.

There was no explicitconfirmation that Brittana were dating each other—but, then again, there wasalso nothing to say that they were dating anyone else, either.

They tried to re-recruitQuinn to the New Directions and Cheerios together, but it was unclear what, ifanything, Quinn knew about their relationship.

The girls were onceagain a two-shot, appearing in almost every scene together. They danced on thetables with each other during “We Got the Beat” and sat side-by-side followingthe food fight (“Those are your nipples”).

Later on, Sue seemedto intimate that she knew the truth about Santana’s sexuality and used thatknowledge to blackmail Santana into sabotaging Will’s piano project. Santanadid not appear to be out, but she and Brittany were being awfully chummy inpublic. When Santana got kicked out the glee club, Brittany appeared noticeablydistressed, to the point that even Finn seemed to notice.

Everything was,frankly, ambiguous.

There was nothing tosay that Brittana had made progress between S2 and S3. There was also nothingto say they had regressed.

After working throughsome initial feelings of disappointment, the fandom held its collective breath,waiting to learn more. 

Some fans, myself included, wondered if Brittana werealready secretly dating and suspected that maybe a big reveal would come about at somepoint later in the season. Other fans fretted that maybe we would never see anymore mainline development for romantic Brittana at all—that this “Are they oraren’t they?” ambiguity was all we were ever going to get.

True to form, Gleestrung us along. The next two episodes of S3 tiptoed around Brittana’srelationship, with each new episode offering tantalizing clues but never delivering anything definitive.

In episode 3x02 “I AmUnicorn,” Brittany seemed bound and determined to make WMHS a safe space forLGBTQ kids, and she attempted to use Kurt’s campaign for the senior classpresidency to achieve that end. When Kurt rejected Brittany’s designs,Santana made a point to compliment her genius and encourage her to believe inherself. Everything was very sweet and seemed significant, but, again, nothingwas explicitly explained.

In episode 3x03 “AsianF,” Brittany showed up the Booty Camp, seemingly in support of Santana. Later,she performed “Run the World (Girls)” with Santana singing backup. Theperformance was definitely sexy and suggested Santana’s devotion not only toBrittany’s cause but to Brittany herself. However, it was perhaps lessintriguing, from a Brittana perspective, than Mercedes’s dream sequence performanceof “It’s All Over,” in which Mercedes clearly identified Brittana as a powercouple and talked about Santana “knocking off that piece who thinks she’sbetter than everybody running for president”—i.e., Brittany. Once again, fanswere left wondering what, if anything, was the deal with Brittana. Were theydating or what? If so, did the whole school know about it? Or was Mercedes aspecial case?

Finally, episode 3x04 “PotO’ Gold” provided some answers—though, again, not the answers fans perhapsexpected.

It turned out thatBrittany and Santana had been going on dates—eating out at BreadStix, takingromantic baths together, etc.—only Santana wasn’t sure if that meant they were actuallydating. Brittany reassured her that they were, in fact, dating if she wantedthem to be dating (“I ordered shrimp”). And Santana did want them to be dating, just with the stipulation that their relationship remain private (“under thenapkin”), at least for the time being.

This developmentfilled in some blanks for the fandom:

Santana was not yetout.

Brittana had spent the summer and early school year going on dates but notdefining their relationship.

Brittany was fine with taking things at Santana’s pace.

Santana was ready to date Brittany and be in a committed relationship with herbut not yet ready to make their relationship public.

What it didn’t tell uswas how, exactly, Brittana had spent their summer vacation or to what degreethey had discussed Santana’s coming out process to date. Did they have a planfor how they were going to proceed or were they more playing things by ear?

To this point in showhistory, we, as the audience, still had yet to meet Santana’s family on screen, soquestions remained as to how accepting or unaccepting they might beconcerning her sexuality. 

There had been some hints to suggest that Santanafeared their potential reaction to her coming out but nothing had beenexplicitly stated. 

Fans wondered to what degree the Lopez family would figure into Brittana’sstoryline going forward. 

They also wondered how much or how little Brittana’sromantic development would feature in the show throughout the rest of theseason.

When spoilers startedto leak for Santana’s “coming out” arc, set to feature in episodes 3x06 “MashOff” and 3x07 “I Kissed a Girl,” the fandom hoped that maybe we would learnmore about the nature and history of Brittana’s relationship from the end of S2until present.

But that’s the thingabout Glee: The writers very rarely examined developments in retrospect. Thingshappened off screen, through insinuation, and in passing and were never againrevisited. No new details or developments were made, and the story clipped alongat its same heady pace, full steam ahead.

So was the case withBrittana’s relationship.

We got developmentsgoing forward in S3, but the narrative never looked back or provided any newinsight into what had happened to get Brittana from the Heart Locker in 2x22 to “Iwish you’d hold my hand” in 3x04.

That being the case,there just aren’t that many concrete answers to be had about the summer S2-S3 hiatus period in Brittana history. All we can dois make inferences and write fanfiction.

My personal inferencesabout that “lost summer” are these:

I believe that,following the Heart Locker conversation, Brittany and Santana’s relationshipachieved a state of new equilibrium.

Things weren’t thesame as they had been pre-Hurt Locker, where they were friends who slepttogether but never talked about feelings (even though feelings were obviouslythere). Things also weren’t the same as they had been throughout the Back Six ofS2, with so many stutter steps and hesitations and backslides andcomplications, each new week trading heartbreaks and triumphs.Neither one of the girls was dating anyone else, and they weren’t desperately tryingto maintain the image of heterosexuality, as they had in the past.

Instead, Brittana achieved a new normal.

They spent timetogether—probably lots of it in each other’s homes, as we can infer from thefact that they occasionally bathed together—and they gradually resumed theirphysical intimacy, only this time it was different, because the feelingsunderlying it weren’t being suppressed and secreted anymore.

Though fans hadoriginally inferred that Brittany wouldn’t be ready to date Santana untilSantana came out, the truth was that Brittany was ready to date Santana as longas they were exclusive with each other and there was no more obfuscationbetween them about the nature of their feelings.

They didn’tnecessarily have explicit conversations about the nature of their relationship,hence why Santana remained uncertain, even going into the new school year, asto whether or not Brittany was actually her girlfriend. Brittany, on the otherhand, knew that she and Santana were steady dating, but she wasn’t about toforce Santana into labeling their dynamic before she was ready, so she just playedthings cool, waiting for Santana to come to her.

In the meantime, thegirls decided—together—that they would rejoin Cheerios and attain leadershippositions in Sue’s organization.

They also decided thatthey would try to reform the Unholy Trinity and get Quinn to rejoincheerleading and glee club with them.

When the school yearbegan, they essentially hid their new and improved dynamic in plain sight.Santana didn’t come out to the school, and she and Brittany didn’t tell anyonethey’d been going on dates. However, the girls also made no efforts to hide theircloseness or to beard with boys, as per their m.o. in years past. If people sawthem together and made inferences, then so be it. They just weren’t going tomake any public announcements themselves—and especially not before they haddefined their relationship between the two of them.

There was perhaps somesense between them that they were gradually working towards “going public”—thatSantana was trying to become more comfortable with herself and that they werebuilding up the kind of social capital that would afford them the freedom to dowhat they wanted within the walls of WMHS—but I don’t think they had a stricttimeline on coming out or even a real plan as to how that process might unfold.

Things were still newbetween them, and they were still figuring out how to bridge the gap betweenwhat they had been in the past and what they were now—hence all the ambiguityduring the first few episodes of S3.

Of course, these stories are just my take on this particular period in Brittana history, and other authors have imagined things in delightfully different ways.

As stated above, we don’t have many hard answers about how Brittana made the transition between S2 and S3. We just have the sense that things were keenly different between Brittana, starting their senior year.
