Suddenly wanna do some kind of special run of a pokemon game… Like a single type run or a nuzlocke. Or both.

Currently leaning towards a single type run or a weather team, bc I can research a game’s dex & plan out which pokemon will work together and cover each other when it comes to their weaknesses (if the pokemon has a dual type or certain ability). Sounds fun… just dunno which game to try that in.

⌗ this man — THIS GEEK — has been into pokemon from his days on cartoon network. he was the guy that woke up early mornings to watch the clone wars at 7am BUT STUMBLED ACROSS pokemon one day and was like “o h.”

⌗ child cyno just starring at the screen in wonder like what is this piece of art and why have i only found it now. literally asking himself why he hadn’t bought the trading cards before ( maybe because the kids in his neighborhood were always BUYING THEM UP ).

⌗ through the show, indigo league, he also saw the games being advertised and he just had to have one — to at least TRY.

⌗ he was gifted a gameboy one christmas to play mario related games, so he decided.. to give emerald a try😐

⌗ the amount of hours that went into that game for understanding it ALONE. there was so much to learn for no reason, but a fun game nonetheless.

⌗ throughout the years cyno would continue collecting cards, literally getting them at any trip to a store with lisa ( yes, yes lisa. ), and she would just giggle but buy them, anyway<3

⌗ cards were banned at school tho because they were being exchanged left and right like DRUGS LMFAO ( this happened at my school oml it was so bad ppl were sneaking them in AND SOME GOT CONFISCATED BAHAHA )

⌗ oddly, but not so oddly, he likes electric and ground types the most, despite them being each other’s weaknesses LMAO also likes fighting and dark types though.

⌗ so on the trip to the park one morning, on his way to the pokestop, he found a girl, at the top of the slide on her phone.

⌗ it was the strangest sight to him, like what were you doing up at that hour, on your phone, right at the pokestop when pogo was trending

⌗ he checked the gym again to make sure, and there you were.

⌗ “judgment is upon you.” he would proclaim, pointing at you, as though declaring war of some sorts.

⌗ meanwhile you just give the most confused look ever to him. like who is this boy and who is he to complain?? and what about??

⌗ until it finally clicks.

⌗ “twilight arbiter?!”

⌗ and now cyno is speechless because he was acknowledged by the enemy.

Gold and Silver: I actually don't feel suuuuper too strongly about Ho-oh and Lugia, tbh--though i will say they both have more solid designs than. A Lot of other johto Pokemon imo LMAO. I liked Lugia a lot when I was a kid and that affection has waned a bit as I got older but I do still think it's cool. They both have pretty solid lore as far as Legendaries go, I'm just not particularly attached to 'em...something like a Legends Johto game really has the potential to do something cool with 'em (I feel like with Ho-oh especially) and I do kinda hope we eventually get to see that.

Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald: MY HOMEEEEE Hoenn box Legendary trio sooo near and dear to me...Ruby was my first game Groudon was my first Legendary but I think he's kind of just ok. I like Kyogre a lot more and I Love Rayquaza, definitely a long time favorite Legendary...they're really just a solid trio of Pokemon with some really cool designs and concepts at play, and I like the new lore and forms ORAS gave 'em. Kyogre's Pokemon Pinball boss fight kicks ass to this day and im not kidding.

Diamond, Pearl, Platinum: MY DEAR LATE MIDDLE SCHOOL/EARLY HIGH SCHOOL FRIENDS I thinkkkk as a trio I think I might like Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina the best...Legendaries I never tire of seeing. Palkia is one of my all time favs, gazing so lovingly at my giant Palkia plush ive had for some 15 odd years...Giratina is too, honestly, Giratina fucking Rules (though I actually don't like its Origin form very much and never had...I'm an Altered Form Giratina girlie.) They're just all super solid designs and for Dialga and Palkia especially they really feel like perfect embodiments of The Game Theyre the Cover Of. Also I love Origin Form Dialga and Palkia sorry. Theyre my precious ugly as fuck horses.

Black, White, BW2: WELL. THESE MIGHT TRULY BE THE BEST ONES. Zekrom/Reshiram/Kyurem are not my favorite Trio, but together just everything they represent is so cool. One day we WILL see that Original Dragon so HELP ME GOD. I'm more impartial to Zekrom (i played Black and White 2) but it still has such a striking design, I have to say. Reshiram is an especially beautiful Pokemon and definitely one of my favorites. I have. So Many Reshiram cards and plushes HJFDJGDF And well some people don't like Black and White Kyurem for whatever reason, but well i simply have to say they have been making me crazy since high school and the concept of Pokemon Fusion Really in The Game will never not be fucking bonkers slash POS. i LOVE White Kyurem (go figure.) THATS MY FUCKIN FREEEAK

X & Y: i don't. like X & Y very much 🥴 I wish I liked Xerneas more but something about its design is just kind of lacking some 'oomph' ro me. It doesn't feel like a strong poster child for the Fairy type's debut. Despite everything Yveltal does go hard as fucking hell though I still like it a lot. I named the one I caught in Y HELLRAISER back in college and I was shocked they let me name it that.

Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun/Moon: ok nevermind scratch what I said about DPP Sun and Moon have my favorite Legendary Trio for absolute certain. GOD I WISH SUMO/USUM WERE BETTER GAMES!!!!! SOLGALEO LUNALA AND NECROZMA ARE ALL SO FUCKING COOOOL!!!!! DUSK MANE NECROZMA AND DAWN WINGS NECROZMA ARE SO FUCKING COOOL!!!!!!!!! NECROZMA FUCKING EATS THEM FOR POWER. Just in general fantastic designs all around, and it's so cool that Solgaleo and Lunala are Legendaries That Evolve.also i played Moon/UM but I have grown deeply fond of Solgaleo over the last year or so. As if it's my fault he looks like...no, I shant say.

Sword and Shield: I don't like SWSH very much either 🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴which is a shame because Zacien and Zamazenta have really cool concepts and designs!! I love their old tattered beat up forms, I love that theyre siblings 🥺I love that the one that isnt Your box legendary goes with Hop, that's so so sweet and so so cool. I just wish SWSH had more of a..........yknow. story. to do anything else of any substance with them. Cool Legendaries in bad games...sad!

Scarlet and Violet: WELL. THESE MAY ALSO BE THE BEST ONES AND I'LL SAY IT WITH MY WHOLE CHEST. god, just. WOW. I like them both a lot but I'm especially fond of Miraidon, to absolute bits. This really feels like the most realized version of a box art Legendary that really truly is a Character in its own right, you get to spend that whole game with your dragon, it well and truly Is Your Friend and it's just fantastic. Theyre endlessly charming and silly and conceptually just so fucking cool. They killed someone. My motorcycle that eats sandwiches. My BUDDY!!! I named my Miraidon Delta Accel :^)

Sonic R (1997)

the saturn: the console sega doesnt want you to talk about. while constantly nostalgiajerking the sega genesis all the time and occasionally throwing the dreamcast a bone, sega seems to be adamant about never acknowledging the saturn on most days of the week that end with "-day". there are several reasons for this, but one big reason is that there was no mainline sonic game for the system.

i think you all know the story; sega of japan wanted to make a flying clown game, sega of america wanted to make a sonic game, so sega did what they do best: infighting. due to nonstop internal drama, SoA's sonic x-treme was cancelled and they decided to port sonic 3d blast as a consolation. no one bit. a year later, in a last ditch effort to increase the abysmal sales of the saturn outside of japan (where it actually sold pretty okay), they probably realized it'd be a good idea to make an actual polygonal sonic game for the system, but to keep things safe they made it a racing game instead of a platformer, and got back the 3d blast guys to make it. the results were... mixed.

there is supposedly a plot and reason for why sonic and his friends are racing in the manual but i cant be assed to look it up; it's never brought up in the actual game anyways. something about the chaos emeralds im assuming. it always is. what's more important than that is that you can pick from sonic, tails, knuckles and amy (with a few more unlockables) and go super sonic racing™ on foot (except amy who uses a car for some unexplained reason. maybe she has flat feet. idk). this is the first and so far only time something like this has been attempted; all other racing games featuring sonic are either kart racers or weird hover boarding things.

so how's the racing? uh... it could use some work. all the characters turn really slowly and slide around the place like it's an ice stage, even when it's not an actual ice stage. you can use L and R to make sharper turns but this can cause some issues too. you can also jump, double jump, and spin dash because of course you can. there's no enemies to defeat, but there are rings which are used to activate speed boosts, and more importantly, hidden doors that may or may not contain chaos emeralds. see, i TOLD you they were involved!!!!!!!!!

there are seven scattered across the 4 initial stages, and if you can get them all, you can play as super sonic. that's it. the other hidden characters are unlocked by finding 5 golden coins in each stage, and then racing them for one lap; if you win, you can play as them. it's sorta like a racing version of unlocking characters in smash bros. be careful though; one of the hidden characters is the tails doll, and if you play as him while the system clock is set to friday the 13th on a full moon while it's thunderstorming, he will come out of your monitor and possess you and make you f̵͖͓̝̌͗é̸͍̆e̴̟̊͒l̸̲͒͑̅ ̷̂̅͜͝t̸̟͆͝h̶̭́͠e̷̡͎̩͑̿̏ ̵̯͆s̴̞̊̌̌u̴̧̧̾͋n̴͔̻͌s̵̲̎h̵̟͇̄̕i̵̹͘n̸̼̹̄e̵͓͚͑͝. so dont do that.

so what you have so far is a kinda mid racing game that doesnt control all that greatly, BUT IT GETS WORSE. i mentioned 4 initial stages earlier, right? guess how many unlockable ones there are... that's right, 1. there are five stages. not cups or groups. THERE ARE ONLY FIVE (5) STAGES. people complained when mario kart 64 had only 16 stages compared to super mario kart's 20, but this makes those complaints minuscule. if you're even halfway competent at the game, getting first on each stage and reaching the end credits will take you approximately 15 minutes. getting the chaos emeralds and hidden characters will maybe take you another 40. YOU CAN 100% THIS GAME IN UNDER AN HOUR.

this doesnt matter that much now since you can easily pirate the game, but back then, this was the big saturn exclusive holiday release of 1997, competing with playstation's crash bandicoot 2 and nintendo 64's diddy kong racing. let me reiterate. THIS GAME HAD TO COMPETE WITH THE MUCH MORE SUBSTANTIAL CRASH 2 AND DIDDY KONG RACING. ALSO IT COST $49.99. do you see why the saturn failed now?

aesthetically, the game is actually not half bad. the five (5) stages in this game all look bright and colorful (radiant emerald looks too bright and colorful, actually). the saturn could not do 3d all that well so the fact the stages are that huge AND keep a stable 30 FPS framerate is proof that traveler's tales sure could program a neat little engine. in the pc/gamecube ports, there's even randomized weather effects!

...whew, can i finally talk about it now? good. it's time to talk about the only reason this game is brought up nowadays: the music. holy FUCK is it good. it does something very few games have attempted before or since; every song barring the menu theme has lyrics. this is a point of contention among some people, but as for me, i LOVE it. yeah yeah, the lyrics are silly and a bit too focused on romance and love considering this is the soundtrack for a sonic racing game, but damn if TJ davis doesn't sing her heart out. the production value on these songs are insane; they wouldn't be out of place on the radio, and they are irresistibly catchy. it's hard to pick a favorite; im torn between back in time, diamond in the sky, super sonic racing, and number one. and also can you feel the sunshine. and AW FUCK they're all good. if you're a weakling and find the lyrics too distracting, you can also turn vocals off in the options. the awesome as hell soundtrack is one huge point in this game's favor...

...but it's not enough. truthfully, i think of this game as a tj davis album rather than an actual video game. this game is too simple, too awkward to play, and too short for me to pay attention to anything but it's great music. if you feel like pirating the game just to see what the fuss is about, at least it wont take you too long to beat. but if sega for some ungodly reason ever offers this game on a digital storefront, super sonic race the hell away from it.

3) Kes tends to put on airs! Publicly, everything he does is a performance. He doesn't really show his true emotions unless he trusts the person implicitly, which is rare. Wyll broke through first, as they've met before - see the fic i wrote below (sorry in advance if you decide to read it; its a bit awkward as im not the best writer). Funnily enough, Astarion was the last person to gain his trust even though they've been sleeping with one another for months. To anyone new, he has this larger-than-life, flamboyant personality. He's witty and nonchalant (hi, fav spell vicious mockery). He's suuuuper good at reading people and knows how to 'play the field' accordingly. Hence, people are either completely obsessed with him or they hate his guts (it's all part of his plan, lol. Meaning he's very cautious about who he lets in). But despite this grandiose mask he wears, he's actually really concerned with what people think of him. He worries that people can see through the mask and see someone who is broken and weak (a projection of how he feels of himself). He deeply connects with the tiefling children as he sees himself in them; scrappy little urchins trying to get by in a world that would spit on them. And as it turns out, he's a really sweet and caring person under all that bs! Once he knows and trusts someone, he's basically the "mom friend," no matter how hard he tries to hide it. So this whole long-winded answer to say that the companions see the real Kestrel by Act II (and if they paid attention, by the end of Act I).

38) Hmm! I think this one kinda goes with #3 a little! He's good at chess (from fairly high wisdom and intelligence). He pretends he's bad at it as a measure of the person he's playing. Will they try to take advantage of him, or will they be helpful? In Act II at Last Light, when Mol is playing Raphael, he leans on Gale in order to help Mol as a way to throw Raphael off later on. He eventually plays Gale and surprises him! Gale still ends up winning but is pleasantly surprised by the challenge.

49) He would! As he grew up a street urchin, he became very used to eating anything he could find (his parents were around but they were so poor - things got a little better for the family when Kestrel was 12, as his dad was able to open a small shop). Now that he's older (27 at the start of the game, 28 during Act III), some habits die hard. I remember that interaction with Okta, the old tiefling woman making stew in the Emerald Grove. She mentions something about tav having lived a hard life since they happily take to gruel after she offers.

oh yeah so the reason i didn't go in depth about that in the post is it's actually quite a lot of obscure game mechanic talk and i didn't wanna divert from the heartwarming story to break people's brains potentially lol but yeah sure! i'll put the whole explanation below a cut because it's pretty long. warning that i'm going deep on the nerd shit sorry in advance LMAO

essentially the latias i use in gen 4 was obtained in pokemon emerald and then transferred through the pal park, i obtained it by combining ACE (arbitrary code execution) and RNG manipulation. neither of these things are hacking or require any sort of tampering with the game and can be done on original hardware (i did all this on my original emerald cart in an actual GBA SP) but it is an unintended way of playing the game, just to be upfront, not that i mind because i'm doing singleplayer stuff for fun.

so, RNG manipulation is the process of perfectly timing your button inputs and actions to get the game to spit out the "random" result that you want. because computers struggle to do true randomness (especially something as old as generation 3 pokemon games) usually "randomness" is actually based on elaborate algorithms/equations. in emerald, the game is supposed to choose a "seed" to generate random pokemon spawns etc with (think minecraft world seeds and how those generate a world, but with wild pokemon and stuff instead if you've ever played minecraft!) based on the RTC (real time clock) of the cartridge, but due to a programming error, emerald actually never seeds properly, causing it to always be stuck at a seed of 0. there have been a couple methods discovered to force the game to seed but that's irrelevant here. since the seed is always 0, every time you play emerald, all of the possible spawns are actually the same each time. to a casual player they will never notice such a thing but to an rng manipulator this becomes very, very useful.

when you get into a wild encounter (or obtain a gift pokemon, encounter a legendary, etc) the game checks what frame you're on since you booted the game, tosses that frame into its random number generating algorithm against the seed, and then every aspect of that pokemon is determined by the result, like IVs and nature and etc. so, if you were to backwards engineer this algorithm and then figure out a way to perfectly time your A press to hit the exact frame you want, you'd be able to get any IV spread etc you want... and you'd also be able to predict and time your inputs to get shinies assuming that you know your SID (secret ID, a hidden value paired with your trainer ID on your trainer card) which can be figured out through a variety of methods that i won't get into here.

as it turns out, the pokemon community is nuts and the whole backwards engineering process was already done by people way smarter than me, and software has been developed to be able to sift through all possible pokemon encounters in pokemon games, including emerald. i use PokeFinder which is by far the best program out for this right now that is getting consistently updated. software has also been developed to time your A presses, the main one i use is EonTimer which lets me pop in what frame i want to hit and it calculates the amount of time i have to wait and then beeps to tell me when to hit A. i feel the need to repeat again this software does not require you to tamper with your games in any way - i honestly highly recommend trying it sometime even if just for the novelty of getting a shiny to appear on command, it's really fun and there's tutorials on youtube by "i'm a blisy" dsfjfdskd

edit: here's a screencap of what eontimer looks like btw! not the same target frame i used back when i got this latias but yeah. it's neat

with all of that out of the way, it sounds like it should be as simple as saving in front of the latias and then looking up the spread i want, popping it into the timer, and then resetting my game, waiting for the beep, hitting A and rinse and repeat until i get it. there's a few holes in this plan though:

the spread i want (timid 31/31/31/31/31/31 AKA perfect IVs) would require me to leave my game on for literal weeks on end per attempt, which is entirely unrealistic and unfeasible. i'm doing this on actual hardware, no speedup!

the spread in question also isn't shiny with my current SID. i don't need the latias to be shiny or anything, i just want it to be for fun

i am using my emerald save file that already has the roamer Latios generated, so i no longer have the option of rng manipulating that one. this means i need to get to Southern Island and RNG the latias there... which is a mystery gift. i do not own the e-reader nor do i own an extremely expensive eon ticket to get that event in my game

and this is where ACE comes in! ACE is... complicated. if you've ever seen people pull off some excessively wild and glitchy stuff in gen 1 by swapping items around in their inventory, you were probably watching a form of ACE in action. it's the process of glitching the game into a state where you can get it to take some form of input from the player as code and then run that code, hence "arbitrary code execution". honestly ACE is not something i have studied in depth, especially with gen 3, and i mostly just followed tutorials on getting what i wanted. i can summarize this process down into a few steps:

getting the NPC trade pokemon DOTS the seedot and EV training it to a very specific spread

performing glitzer popping (wild name, i know) to corrupt DOTS the seedot into a very specific glitchy egg

changing the name of my PC boxes to what is essentially GBA assembly instructions

cloning the aforementioned glitch egg using the emerald battle tower cloning glitch a bunch of times so i can use them whenever and then hatching them, which due to the EV spread i gave DOTS, will execute the code i changed my PC box names to!

i used ACE to solve all of the aforementioned problems with this rng manipulation.

i used ACE to make my game jump thousands upon thousands of frames forward, just a little bit before the competitive spread i wanted, and then went to the battle frontier to save a battle video at the battle factory by going in and instantly losing... this is because every time a battle video is loaded, it doesn't actually save every random result that happens in the battle (like missing and damage rolls) and instead just remembers the state of the RNG before the battle started and player choices and re-calculates the same exact random chances. therefore, if i watch this battle video from the trainer card upon every reset, i will jump back to that place thousands of frames forward, right before the latias spread i want

i used ACE to change my SID to a value that would make the spread i want shiny in combination with my TID because why not

i used ACE to spawn latias on southern island and to give myself the eon ticket to get there, no real life eon ticket/e-reader required (there are ways to inject this event that don't require ACE/the real life event items but i wanted to do all this without tampering!)

as a side tangent, i should mention that i had a very obscure problem with running the ACE to get to southern island that i had to contact some gen 3 ACE experts for help on... too complicated to explain here in any sort of legible way i think, but basically the problem was every time i hatched the glitch egg, the game just froze despite my code being typed in properly in my PC boxes with no typos. the audio kept playing but it would hang on the hatching screen, resulting in this extremely cursed footage of me hatching a void egg that looked like nothing and caused my game to crash:

i just think that's neat LMAO. anyways yeah after getting all that complicated ACE shit out of the way that took me 123989123 years to set up, it was just a matter of standing in front of the rock on southern island, saving my game, getting my timer ready, soft resetting my game, watching my battle video and starting my timer, and then waiting a handful of seconds and trying to press A with the exact 1/60th of a second timing to get the latias to appear. (emerald runs on 60 fps, this always takes a few tries)

after that i simply transferred latibreak through HGSS pal park and trained her up and started using her in the battle tower :) technically a player could randomly stumble on this latias if they left their game open long enough and had the right TID/SID, it is a completely valid encounter that can move through pokemon bank and pokemon home! i just used a variety of game knowledge and glitches to get it to appear for me without having to wait for luck. i hope any of this made sense and sorry for all the jargon!! i wasn't sure how else to tell this story tbh. if any of this sounds interesting to you i highly recommend trying out at least rng manipulation sometime! you can do a lot of cool stuff with it even without ACE being involved, i just really needed ACE for this specific pokemon i wanted SDFJFDS

     look, sonic is my lifelong brainrot, i played the classic games with sonic mega collection on my ps2 and the rest was history. and there is just so many leftovers in this series that the games just use once, drop, and never use again! his blast cannon is ripped straight outta sonic battle, the artificial chaos emerald is just his improved fake chaos emerald from sa2. the elemental shields havent been seen since. sonic generations i think?? and then there's just so many things about chaos energy as a whole! it's begging to be expanded on! i am just tails fr fr if we're being so completely honest. just. without the ability to actually build anything. coughs.

     i just adore it all, it's so much fun to think of how things work. making rules and explanations for how all of the weird magical stuff in sonic works is. it really is my bread and butter. and tails is just the perfect outlet for all of that! i always feel like tails himself when i ramble on about the science of it all, that most people dont really follow what im talking about and glaze over it? but it makes me happy that it's indeed appreciated.

yeah so hi i deliberately stayed up until 7am on a work night in order to watch this and do not regret a thing.

-> splat3 dlc looks cool!! will i play it? no. does it look cool as hell? yeah!!! I personally don't like splat3's actual single player campaign so unless im able to access the dlc without finishing the main campaign then... im not playing it lmao. it looks cool as fuck though!! i like whatever the hell they had going on with the glitchy taz hunger looking goop that produced skeleton fish. pearl + marina lore is also a win in my book -> i dont actually have all that many thoughts about the smrpg showcase but MAN it looks cool as hell. at first i didnt like the revamped graphics but now theyre growing on me.... plus the trio attacks??? HELL YEA! i hope the remake will make me actually finish the game this time around instead of start it twice in the past three years and then quit within the first few areas (<- i say as if this isnt a normal problem i have regardless. thanks, its the adhd)

24. Favorite crystal?

Oh my this is difficult for me since I use a lot of crystals for a variety of things… I have always felt a strong pull towards working with jaspers (particular ocean or dragon jasper). Fluorite was one of my first crystals and I still use it mediation. As of late I’ve been reaching a lot for serpentine since it balances the heart chakra and I have a blood disorder/cardiovascular disease.

Putting crystal work and meditation aside… I really love rings and wearing jewelry. I am a huge fan of my emerald, moss agate and moonstone rings. I also have a ring made of real Helenite (the actual one made from the mount st Helen eruption) that was gifted to me by my mother and I love it’s bright green color 💚

55. favorite fairy tale?

Im a sucker for rapunzel… I grew up loving the Barbie film and then when Disney did tangled… I know the actual fairy tale is quite different than the kid friendly versions but still. Massive love for rapunzel.

62. seven characters you relate to?

Leslie Knope from parks and rec : I have always been told one of the few things I’m good at is gift giving. My partner actually calls me Leslie knope bc he swears he’s never met someone who has such a strong gift giving love language.

Anakin Skywalker: Ever since childhood I’ve felt quite a kinship with anakin since he was sort of shoved into a world of expectations without having much choice in the matter. I had to grow up quickly due to family circumstances and lost out on a normal childhood. Feeling a constant struggle with my anger and fear… gravitating towards anakin wasn’t that difficult.

Merida : not only did a lot of people call me this in high school because my more Irish/Scottish accent and routes (not to mention my red hair) but I’ve also grown up quite rebellious and have a unique relationship with my mother. I even have a bear tattoo for her since we both love the film. I also have several bows and used to be on a shooting team!

Amy March (little women): Amy, while the younger of the March sisters, I have often felt was misunderstood in literary history. Seeing the more recent adaption of the film, I am so glad to finally have a version of the literary character I love so dearly. I won’t elaborate to all the reasons I connect with her (she is an artistic, ambitious and level headed woman who often feels the second choice) but go watch the new film version and you may catch glimpses of me 💚

And since this is a Harry Potter / Hogwarts legacy account I’ll rattle off how I relate to characters in the franchise:

Luna Lovegood: she is just so in her own world, and not afraid what others think. I’ve always related to this energy.

Nymphadora Tonks: every character quiz I take says I have strong alliances to her personality, and I do see much of her energy. She’s a bit of a spitfire with a strong sense of forging her own destiny.

Sebastian sallow : shouldn’t be a shock (since I got back on tumblr because my connection with our favorite slytherin) but it meant so much to me to finally see a slytherin who was as studious as I am in real life. Before the game I was always a little apprehensive to let people know I aligned the most with the serpent house bc the bad associations and the fact we don’t see many positive slytherins in the original franchise… Academics have ALWAYS been a huge part of my life. Taking care of my baby sister at my own expense (emotionally, physically and financially) has been a huge part of my life. There isn’t a thing I wouldn’t do to keep her safe. I truly enjoyed playing this game since I watched and got to see a character that I saw so much of myself in at that age. Playful but worried, studious but always in trouble, protective of others but little sense of self preservation. He’s headstrong until he accomplishes his goals and would lay down his own safety for those he cares for 💚

TITLE: Continent Pokémon, God of the Earth, Legendary Pokemon (he has qualms with anything Pokemon title–he is a deity, thank you.)

JOB: He is done, alright? He made the continents. Now there are humans? And there is also that brother of his who brought unnecessary water bodies to his earth. He is tired. WHO NEEDS WATER OF THAT AMOUNT? Nothing important lives there? Why does Kyogre exist anyway? To be pain in his neck?

AGE: Here since the very beginning. Never had managed to grow up, so in human years, he would be considered early 20s.

GENDER: Genderfluid. Mostly male-presenting, but has been known both as Lady of  Land AND Lord of Ground.

PRONOUNS: mainly he/him. Depends on the day and how he presents himself. (For his family, he opts for he/him.)

BASIC INFO

NEVER WANTED TO BE THE MIDDLE CHILD. Once upon a time, there were three super-ancient Pokemon. Well, there used to be two. Groudon had been used to that dynamic, and there comes the naive Kyogre, whose only purpose seems to be to against everything Groudon is. Groudon is a kid with an ant farm, making continents and watching the many creatures that started to live upon it. However, there is this better brother of his, making oceans and seas, taking away from where land could be.

ARGUMENTS. Groudon’s perfect world was destroyed with Kyogre’s arrival. What was wrong with only land? Groudon does not care to listen–his way had worked, and KYOGRE SHOULD LISTEN. The dinosaur and the whale had been at each other’s throats since the start.

HYPOCRISY. Groudon, unlike his siblings, found himself to close to humans. The worshippers, however, did not revere him when he showed up as a human, with disorderly clothes and brash personality. He was no different from a street thug, so he accepted that, watching humans from the side while they avoided him at all costs. 

SHAPESHIFTER. Like he shaped the continents, he could shape his form. Sometimes, he would appear as an old man, sometimes a lady, other times just a man. His from that took back then was of a child, who ended up getting semi-adopted by an old woman of a village. 

JEALOUSY. He started to experience the world and learn about the land and the sea from the human viewpoint. And, to his dismay, he learned his younger brother, Kyogre, was also walking among humans. But he was a man. And he even “loved” a human. Groudon was both worried and jealous, since he never seemed to grow up, but Kyogre… no. Marea did. Marea was everything he hoped he could be. Loved by everyone. Mature. And so naive. He argued many times for Marea to give up on this dream. And hid his own ties to the humans.

ANGER. He would still sneak to live the childhood humans lived. He would bring the sunny days and warmth for the crops so that the old woman would have enough to eat. He was learning, growing.. Until one day, over an argument that he does not even remember now, he WENT UP IN FLAMES. The flames spread to the old woman, and though the injuries were not severe, Groudon ran away and never looked back.

He went up to Marea to change his mind, to show him being with humans only caused trouble. That playing human was stupid– HOWEVER. It did not end well. Groudon was too argumentative. Brash. Loud. FURIOUS. And he tipped Marea, who caused the floods that would kill Marea’s wife. 

TRAGEDY. Groudon never knew Marea’s family as much as he should. But he grieved Suiji, and felt responsible for causing Marea such blinding, overwhelming anger. HE WOULD NEVER ADMIT IT, but he always blamed himself for the accident. So, when Kyogre/Marea went into a slumber, Groudon took his millennia long depression nap too.

OMG LITERALY ITS SOOOOO GOOOOD sum aspects kf it reminds me of unleashed which is awesome 2 me cus rhats one of my faves… i dont pay much attention to actual gameplay in sonic i mostly like the storys and characters but frontiers is supeeer fun and i love being able to explore and do the challenges and the stages are pretty cool too … im not the best at them thiugh…. Seriously ive been talking myselr so much about how much i adore it its like they made a game just for melina i never play video games but this is so so fun to me. I was kind of confused at first tho ill be honest it is overwhelming with how big the islands are (im on the second one right now i forgot its name:P) but ithink im getting the hang of it its SO FUN EXPLORING SOOOO FUN and i like how sonic even mentions he likes how muchcroom there is to explore … omg the characterization im not too sureabout for amy i dont know if its her voice or what but THAT IS NOT AMY ROSE! I always get sad when she is written as more mature i miss 12 year old amy…She is so sweet though i still love her forever.&knuckles is so silly i love seeing sonic knuckles interactions OMG jusy so happy to see sonic characters talking to eachother and being friends i LOVEEE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also sage js so interesting i have no idea what is going on with her i didnt keep up with anything about the game before it released cus i didnt want spoilers but i like her. Very interedting veeeery interesting i like how they bring back phantom ruby stuff(i assume) along with lore established in sonic adventure i think it really ties the world together in a way i always craved im so hapoy they are building more on chaos and angel island and master emerald lore seriously … ALSO I LOVE THE DESIGNS FOR ALL THE CREATURES SO MACH OMG the koco are adorable i want keychains of them and in the second island the enemies are so sick oh mai god . … the little kocos true old form or whatever look like chaos mademe go nuts i got so excited i wonder wat it allll meaaansss…. Hopefully i will FIND OUT! Also the msyic so badass im so hapy after i finish the game i know i will be listening all the time its just too good>< i love how huge the game is too and there is socmuch you can do in it if you want to. Also im super into the weather and time changes i think it is so cool but makes you think sonic is staying awake for days and in the rain so gross he needs a shower .. A rewrite of sonic frontiers starting from rhea island and head cannons about sonic lore

I wrote this comment on a video of rhea Island's music and I made a slight rewrite in a string of consciousness kind of way.

First of all, rhea island is not given a space on the thing where you see how much you explored of each of the islands. Treating it the same as the first three islands is just making it seem like there is more to the game than there actually is. 

One story thing I think I would change is make it so we see that supreme is actually the true form of the end and the ancients modeled giganto, wyvern and knight after it to fight against it. That detail will matter in a second, anyway… 

While sonic is activating the towers, Sage tells sonic that the end is manipulating him to his end by running him ragged waving his friends in his face and giving him his cyber corruption. so once sonic gets fully corrupted, amy, knuckles, and tails come back to realize that the end is ready to destroy them all since sonic is neutralized. The end wasn't lying when they said they would bring back sonic's friends, but they didn't specify the context. The end just wanted to watch his friends see their beloved sonic stuck in between dimensions to make them lose hope. Tails, Amy, and Knuckles realize that only super sonic could have a chance at fighting back against the end, so they all go and collect the chaos emeralds (sage is able to help them all get the emeralds without the need for vault keys) and they bring sonic back with the chaos emeralds (calling back to 06 in the process) and Sonic fights supreme with im here playing but without lyrics. Then once the first phase is completed Sage realizes she would need to help super sonic fight supreme in space now and then I’m here plays with lyrics. The whole time supreme/the end is using moves similar to giganto , wyvern, and knight. Finally, to stop the end from firing a laser to destroy earth, sage sacrifices herself like in the game (possibly remembering how shadow turned out and deciding to take a gamble and hope she could come back) and super sonic falls back to the islands where his friends are and they celebrate and sonic mourns sage before remembering what happened to shadow and is like “I think we will see her again soon someday” and then the credits roll. We still see the same cutscene with eggman showing that sage was saved. After that, you can explore ouranos island as postgame content. It is explained by sonic coming back to the islands just because he hasn’t finished exploring all of them yet. On ouranos island you cannot collect chaos emeralds anymore, but now the portals let you relive memories and refight the titans whenever you want. Let’s just say since sonic just wants to finish exploring the starfall islands, it only now allows you to travel back to the other islands as well because if you did that before it didn’t make any sense. After you get to the post game and you can travel back to Kronos island, rhea island is added to your map on Kronos island, and you can go back there for some hard to trigger dialogue having sonic come to conclusions about the lore and story. Some other lore reveals and clarifications also happen on ouranos Island, completely from sonic figuring things out himself and some cyberspace shenanigans or something, I just don't want sage to explain everything herself. 

A lore details I would add are showing that the master emerald and the chaos emeralds came from a magical meteor that got split apart by the end to keep a civilization from having a chance at defeating it, but seven small pieces of it formed into the chaos emeralds that the ancients used to escape the end, and a bigger chunk formed into the master emerald (why did that Knuckles animation have to tease a reveal of where the master emerald came from if we never got that in the game) so the master emerald landed on an island and once the ancients got to it, they found a way to make it float so the island could be less vulnerable to attackers. I also want to add that when the ancients escaped to angel island, most left behind their kokos on the starfall islands so in the slim chance that anything survives, their koko can keep their individual memories. Some ancients keep their koko with them on angel island, and those who do are not affected by the master emerald's weird radiation it gives off that turned the ancients without thier koko into various chao that we see on angel island in the prolouge. I think eventually the ancients that kept their koko still became less tall and developed bigger eyes to adapt to the earth's gravity and environment. They eventually don't need thier koko to withstand the master emerald anymore, so they just turn them into masks, one of them being found by the nights chao in the prolouge. One of the ancients that gave up their kokos is chaos, the one from sonic adventure. I'm also headcannoning that that guy could essentially just become a water monster from being around the master emerald for so long.

Now, this part goes into massive theory territory but I wanted to share it here: I think that sonic characters, the animal people that are often the playable characters(I'll just call them mobians) I think these guys came from the ancients too. I mean, from what I have built up, the ancients that became like Chaos have big eyes, lanky limbs, large heads, and big hands and feet. Maybe the Chaos-like ancients then interacted with ancestors of many animal species, eventually leading some animals to become the mobians we see in the sonic version of earth. Humans and non-sentient animals could have just evolved separately from them. This explains why we can see non-sentient seagulls flying by sonic and why we can just fish up a squid and have it not look like a sonic character. Maybe the mobians are just called hedgehogs, foxes, and echidnas because of how they look. Maybe the ancients being around the master emerald gave them magical powers, leading to the mobians having various superpowers such as rolling into a ball, long tails, and the ability to use the chaos emeralds efficiently. Maybe the ancients having appendages on the back of their heads carried into what most of the hedgehog characters  look like.

(anon who talked about dragonball from a couple days ago) yoo i didnt expect someone w a sonic background would resonate so much with early dragonball..!! but admittedly i dont know much about sonic, outside of like . snapscube, wayneradio, general common knowledge, etc. i couldnt find if someone asked this before erm but do you have any recommendations or favorites in the sonic franchise? i have always wanted to get into it + its like cultural exchange :) lmao

YEAHHH im liking it so far! if u dont know about it yet then once you learn the lore about the chaos emeralds specifically you'll see what i mean by the amount of inspiration sonic takes from dragonball LOLLL

my #1 recs for sonic will always be the games - for the majority of the series, sonic isnt really the type of thing where you absolutely Have to start from the beginning to understand its stories so u can just start anywhere! my personal favorites are both of the adventure games (especially 2), frontiers, generations and unleashed. the adventure series were the first 3d sonic games and where story started being more upfront. frontiers is the most recent and its story actually builds up on the chaos emerald lore in a way they hadnt done in decades. (this one has 2 prologues! the knuckles animation, divergence, and the comic tie-in, convergence.) generations is the one getting a remaster + new story content with shadow this october BUT the original game's story is very light and it's basically just a real nice glorified collection of levels from past games. i havent actually played unleashed since i was a kid (i might again soon) but this is the one with werehog sonic. its story is one of my favorites :)

im not much of a classic/2d player but i had fun with mania! origins is a collection of the classics that i havent played but ive heard it's pretty good and has a mechanic that makes losing lives less punishing than the originals. sonic 1, 2 and cd also have free mobile ports. the murder of sonic the hedgehog is also free on steam, it's a cute and casual little murder mystery visual novel and a real nice introduction to the cast of secondary characters!

(honorary mention goes to fangame dr. robotnik's ring racers, it's a pretty hard kart racer with a bunch of mechanics to memorize but is real fun once you get the hang of it and the tutorial has real cute interactions between eggman and tails. modding characters into this game is pretty easy and ive been working on putting in an oc of mine lol. this game is a sequel to sonic robo blast 2 kart, which is a mod for 1998(!) fangame sonic robo blast 2. another one i like is sonic and the fallen star, a 2d/classic style fangame with a cute artstyle and i know it has a sequel in the works!)

outside of games theres the idw comics! these take place after forces (the game before frontiers) but i think they establish an understanding of prior events pretty well that, again, u wouldn't Need to know everything before reading them. the archie comics are a beast i havent personally touched much of, they ran from 1993-2017 so theres a lot to them LOL

out of all the sonic shows and movies, sonic boom, the sonic ova (also known as the OG sonic movie) and sonic x are my favorites. all of these have super different takes on the world sonic lives in - boom is a silly little sitcom series w really funny meta humor, the ova is a 1996 pilot for an anime series that never happened, and sonic x is an anime series that DID happen where sonic is actually from a different world and gets isekaied to earth. (i recommend jp with subs for this one)

I THINK THATS IT...... i could keep going and be here all day but i will leave it here. theres way more stuff u naturally find getting into the series! the thing i like most about sonic is that i personally think theres something in the franchise for everyone. i hope all this info isnt too intimidating cause truly u can take this series at ur own pace. i hope u have fun anon ^__^
