This is another case of updating designs for older stories because the older designs annoyed me. Not sure how I ended up on In Search of Freedom, but, uh, it was sort of dangerous that I did. ISoF is another story that I could potentially redo in November. I mean, it's not a crazy anniversary, but it has been five years.
Not much changes about the characters per say in this version. I mostly want to tweek the plot a little based on a few things that I would like to change since figuring out a few things about the story. You know how it goes - you imagine certain scenes for so long that you have to write them, but you realize that they don't really work? So you write them in the first draft just because, and then go back and rewrite to make everything better. I think that's what's going on with this story.
I know I've been aging people up in my other stories, but I'm not sure if I really can with this one. Illy's supposed to be young and impressionable at the start of the story, which is why she just sort of goes with the flow as everyone treats her horribly all the time. Even more so after Dracen's coronation. Fifteen seems like a good age for that. IDK, I think I'llkeep them young.
I really like Illy's new peasant design. It's simple yet cute, and very peasanty, lol. I keep staring at it in awe, I love it so much. So pretty.
Leon's design is great as well. I like the idea that their generation basically combines their old style with Artemisian style, since they all grew up as Artemisians. But they still want to retain some of their old culture. The result is something like this, and I like it.
Evangeline is one that changes the most in this version. For one thing, I decided that the elves have Asian features, and that the old Apollon style was Asian influenced because they were close with the elves. Her home life is a little less depressing and a little more tragic. The Apollons and the elves coexisted perfectly, and her parents are actually married and her father is a good and kind ruler. However, when Evangeline was five, news of Artemisia coming the annex them reached the Apollons, and Duke Edward, rather than fight and get his people hurt, decided to just hand over the town to protect the people. But the elves retreated into the forest as not to be used by the Apollons, which also included Evangeline's mother. (She's still in contact with her mother in this version, however, meeting occasionally). Prior to the start of the story, Duke Edward is sent out on a ridiculous crusade by Magnus, leaving Evangeline in charge. She's not officially a duchess, but the people refer to her as such.
As for her design, she, too, has the Apollon/Artemisia influence in her clothes, but mostly because she's forced to because of her station. I really like the hairstyle I gave her, figuring she couldn't do anything drastic with it thanks to being Artemisian nobility, but still finding a way to mimic the edgy Apollon hairstyles. I really like her design. She's pretty.
Dracen doesn't really change much, either. I took away her cloak, and it makes a world of difference, lol. I've always like his design - it looks regal. I think the biggest change I'm making to him is the fact that he's, well, not sleeping with a bunch of noble ladies each night (he's still somehow a virgin) despite Magnus' best efforts. Illy suspects something's up almost immediately after his coronation since his personality changes drastically, but she chalks it up to the stress of ruling a kingdom.
Nora, again, doesn't change. She's still Illy's handmaiden who gets teleported with her mistress to Apollon, although with Illy's undeveloped Seraph powers, she teleports them separately. Nora gets a job as a seamstress in town under Illy's insistence, which she finds she enjoys more than she wants to admit. She want nothing more than the serve Illy, however. I originally had her in something else, but it irked me that she looked higher class that Illy did, which Nora would not stand for, even if Illy was living with farmers and Nora was living in town, lol. But I like this, and I imagine that she took influence from her own place of birth as to throw people off that she's actually from the capital. She's cute - I really like this.
Davin, again, doesn't change much. There wasn't anything to change about him in the first place. I don't really have any explanation as to why his hair is silver, although maybe he has a little elf blood in him? I think I might go with that. Like with Evangeline, he can't go too crazy with anything thanks to being an Apollon Knight and needing to visit the capital every now and then. But that's fine. He grew a goatee to stick it to the man, lol.
Magnus doesn't change, either, except I gave him a beard because I pictured him with one and, lol, now he looks like Jeremy Irons and that is not a bad thing at all.
I made it a point that the Artemisian style seems to be darker than the Apollon style. I liked the thought that the were colorful to begin with, and kept that tradition, since the Artemisians never really did anything after acquiring their village.
I also included what Illy and Dracen's tattoos look like. The ones on their hands are their Seraph marks, which is why they looks exactly alike, whereas the ones on their wrists are the ones used to identify them as royals, which is why they looks similar, but are different. Its actually very unusual that Dracen has a Seraph mark at all, since males typically don't inherit the power, but his power is definitely weaker than Illy's which is why he's influenced by Magnus and she is not.
These designs are really making me want to rewrite this story, lol, since they are so shiny. So pleased with how they turned out. :D

👻 「 Happy Saint Lucy day 」 • Swipe to read the folklore behind this day and stuff that mouth of yours with a saffron bun while you’re at it! Unless you don’t like raisins. In that case, just pretend to join in on the tradition. The dark legend of Saint Lucy’s day! Do you know the dark legend of Saint Lucy’s day? Recently this Saint was celebrated all over Scandinavia and people seem to appreciate this painting I made a while back so I thought I’d share it once again! Looking forward to Christmas? Did you know, that in the middle ages, the 13th night of december was considered dangerous? It was a night were animals could speak and spirits and magical creatures were roaming the streets. Today, Scandinavia and Italy celebrate an italian martyr known as Saint Lucy (or Saint Lucia) who is said to have blinded herself but was given her sight back by god. When burnt at the stake she was not wounded but was eventually killed with a sword. Although in modern times portrayed as a saint wearing a candle lit wreath, many accounts (from the middle ages and even into the late 1900’s) describe Lucy to be a witch, an evil spirit or a leader of spirits. This is connected to her name’s similarity to ”Lucifer”, the devil himself. • ART by # Anton Vitus ( # vitusart / # AVITUS) • Sources: #wikipedia , #isof , #nordiskamuseet • #HappySaintLucyDay #saintlucysday #saintlucy #folklore #mythologyart #folkloreart #darkart #darkartandcraft #darkartist #horror #horrorart #fantasyart #characterdesign #painting #digital #traditional #notai #legend #storytime #art #folklore #saintlucy #darkart #gothic #yule #digitalart #digital #darkartandcraft #darkartist #scandinavia #christmasart #hauntedart https://www.instagram.com/p/CmT4rG0SAtm/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Shoutout to those who simply are who you are, and just happen to also be a fictional character. For those who just 100% are yourself and that self happens to also be a fictional character, who don't have a non-fictionfolk self but are 100% just that. For those who don't have a base non-fictionfolk identity like fictionfolk are expected to, whose base identity is your fictionfolk identity. No fictionfolk needs a "real identity" because who you are as that character is real, just as real as any non-fictionfolk. You are who you say you are, you are yourself, no matter if someone tries to tell you you're wrong. Introduce yourself as yourself and don't force yourself to use a fake name for other people's comfort. Buy wigs or contacts or accessories or anything else you want to wear, dye your hair, do whatever you want to to make yourself happier because you being fictionfolk is not a secondary identity but is who you are.

Hey, I seem to have lost a fic, anyone can help?
What I remember is this: Crowley and Aziraphale have sex, and afterwards Aziraphale tells Crowley they can keep doing it and keep it casual (because he doesn't think Crowley would want anything involving feelings) and Crowley says "That won't work for me", because he's obviously in love with the angel and can't do casual with him. Sounds familiar to anyone? Pretty sure I read it on AO3 but can't find it :c

Isofact
Tumblr media
Isofact is a term like isofic (created by @gam8ligant) but for factfolk ("factkin"). This definition won't be as long (since a lot of it is addressed in isofic), but here are what it stands for:
Factfolk are who they say they are. A factfolk who says they're Josh Hutcherson is no less truthful than Josh Hutcherson saying he's Josh Hutcherson, as an example.
Factfolk and factives both deserve equal treatment. If a factfolk says they're someone, that is just as truthful and valid as a factive saying they're someone.
Factfolk claiming to be people is not impersonation or identity fraud. You cannot impersonate yourself, and you cannot be impersonating someone else if you say you aren't your ringers (other people who id as the same person). You cannot commit identity fraud if you aren't stealing people's personal information such as credit card number or social security number (which is, obviously, not okay).
Factfolk are not "promoting delusions", "anti-recovery", or "crossing boundaries" by being themselves.
Being factfolk is not voluntary, factfolk cannot control who they are any more than non-factfolk can. If people have a problem with factfolk or are made uncomfortable by factfolk of themselves, they can block and ignore them.
If a factfolk says they did/didn't do anything that any of their ringers didn't/did do, they are telling the truth because they have the authority on what they did. For example, my boyfriend Wilbur did not abuse anyone, despite his ringer being an abuser, because they have different lives and just happen to be the same base person. Both of them are still William Gold, however.
Anyways. I don't know how to end this, have fun or whatever

Another thing is, especially as a Minecraft youtuber, I&'m of the opinion that I& should not have the total authority over how people portray me&. And as someone who interacts directly and quite frequently with my& doubles, I& feel like it's unfair to everyone else who happens to have lived an identical life to mine& to say that I& have some final say in the matter in any way.
But despite all that, I& still found that I& had a bit of an unhealthy disconnect from myself& that I& feel much happier overcoming. Goes double for fellow 'linkers, you gotta keep reminding yourself that this is still YOU that people are talking about. On the outside, nothing really changed in my& approach to identity, but on the inside I& think I& just found more self acceptance.

Isofic, a New Term for Fictionfolk
[PT: Isofic, a New Term for Fictionfolk /End PT]
I've been looking for a way to communicate my belief system for a while now, and I've landed on creating my own term.
Tumblr media
[ID: A flag in muted colors. It has an orange stripe on top and a yellow stripe on bottom. The stripes are even and there is a blue rectangle overlayed over the center. The rectangle appears transparent. /End ID]
The contrast of the yellow and orange stripes represent the difference between fiction and reality, while the rectangle represents how fictionfolk fit inside that balance perfectly.
Derived from iso- (equal) and -fic (fiction) (basic I know), "isofic" (eye-so-fick) is a way to describe people and ideas that follow this line of thinking:
Fictionfolk* should be allowed to exist as themselves without being accused of being "anti-recovery," "promoting delusions," or "being unhealthy."
Fictionfolk should be allowed to choose for themselves how they want others to talk about them and how they talk about themselves. It should be considered a natural, or even expected occurrence for fictionfolk to dislike terms such as "kintype" and "kinning" and being reffered to in third person.
The proximity of fictionfolk to their fictionselves should be dictated only by the person. Fictional identities should be believed regardless of how "similar" they are to their fictional/past self, and the only scenario in which someone should be told they are not a character is when they themselves have said so.
This is more of a summary of the three beliefs above, but it covers a lot of bases I cannot: Fictionfolk ARE fictional characters in every sense of the word. Again, it's totally appropriate to view it differently on a personal level, but mostly we are all the people we say we are. We are ourselves the same way Mitsuki Miyawaki is Mitsuki Miyawaki.
All views of fiction by fictionfolk are valid. Examples include media being a biography of your life, jumping out of the media into the real world, ect.
This is where it gets controversial: Fictionfolk deserve to have the most important voice when it comes to discussion of ourselves. I deserve to be listened to when I say someone's headcanon about me is wrong. I am not advocating for all creativity of this manner to be stopped. For example, if someone headcanons that I don't like apples and I say "I actually do," it's totally okay to me if they go "oh cool. I'm still going to pretend you do." Where it becomes an issue is when they decide to say "that's not true because I said so."
Likewise, things like this need to be treated as potentially triggering content. I don't want the enforcement of "if you don't tag your headcanons you're EVIL" or some bullshit like that, I just believe it needs to be recognized that these things can hurt people! For example, if you already have a trigger tagging system, it should be normalized to add the "not fictionfolk safe" tag to that.
This is going to sound highly specific, but all of these principles apply to media as well. If a character is fictionfolk-coded, then they are the character they say they are within the media! Can you tell my fandom is super gross about me? Lol.
*Fictionfolk, for the purposes of this coining, refers to fictional characters regardless of origin. This is different from the actual definition of fictionfolk, which includes fictional species, places, plants, and concepts, and includes experiences such as relating to these things rather than just being them.
There are also some beliefs that are not explicitly related to fictionfolk, but still need to be touched on.
Species dysphoria is real and dangerous, and should be treated with the same level of gravity as gender dysphoria.
Referring to alterhumans improperly should be viewed similarly to how misgendering is viewed in that it needs to be acknowledged that it's deeply disrespectful and due to species dysphoria should not be taken lightly.
Alterhumans may not be systemically oppressed on the basis of being alterhuman by itself, but we are oppressed on an individual level. Additionally, some forms of alterhumanity are systemically oppressed, for example endels, clinical zoanthropes, systems, and more are often subjected to incarceration.
Following the model of queerness as a deviation from the norm rather than specifically meaning "LGBTQ+," alterhumanity is queer.
Alterhumanity should not be censored or gatekept from good faith actors. However, those considered KFF are absolutely not good faith actors.
Any attempt to water down alterhumanity is unwelcome, no matter if it's a TikTok user saying "Therians know they're human" or a Tumblr user "setting healthy limits for alterhumanity."
Everything should always be based on someone's own perception of themself as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else.
I know that's a lot, so feel free to comment if you have any questions!

Shoutout to fictionfolk who are lesser known characters, especially characters from your original stories or friends' original stories. The majority of fictionfolk may be well-known, popular characters, but you are still a valid part of the community! For those who are their own OCs, you are absolutely valid, you are still yourself no matter what anyone says. For those who are obscure or lesser known characters, you are still obviously yourself, even if you aren't as represented as other fictionfolk. All fictionfolk are valid and you are whoever you say you are, no matter how well-known or popular you are.
