Their body has a number of scars earned through years of combat before their first death, plus torture marks clustered over their back.

Skin: Fair, but tan easily. Considering how much time she spends outside, people tend to assume her skin is darker than it actually is (on this point the screenshots aren't very accurate since they don't show her tan but that'd be a nightmare to represent accurately XD)

Tattoos/scars: No tattoos whatsoever. She's got plenty of scars, most aren't really remarkable, but there are two that are special: one from Zenos' blade when he stabbed her in Rhalgr's Reach (it's not just her ego who got bruised that day, sorry MSQ), and one from her cesarean section while she was on the First. Don't worry: nothing creepy happened while she was unconscious, G'raha just had the worst timing ever.

F A M I L Y

Parents: Her father lives peacefully in Tural. She has no idea where her mother is, if she's still alive or even who she was since she left when Aïcha was still an infant.

Edmont de Fortemps also counts (haha) as a paternal figure in her life.

Siblings: None by blood. She does consider Alisaie and Alphinaud like her siblings, however. Artoirel and Emmanellain are more like extended family.

Grandparents: Long dead of her father's side. No idea on her mother's.

In-laws and Other: Well, she's in a relationship with Estinien so I suppose Alberic counts as her father in-law. The moment both realized that their respective father would have to meet eventually was glorious, because the dad jokes will be neverending and mostly at their expense.

Officially, they also have a kid together born during her time on the First.

Officially, because Estinien offered to adopt the kid and pretend he was the biological dad. Only three people know who said bio dad truly is, none of them is the man in question, and Aïcha would rather die than say it out loud. It's one thing to make dubious life choices, another one to let the world know about it...

(I haven't decided on the name or gender yet, but we can thank @gatheredfates for the prompt she sent me. It got completely out of hand but I'm having a lot of fun with the idea it gave me.)

Abilities: Excellent shooter, although her mechanical skills don't go much further than what she needed to maintain her guns. She hasn't touched one in years and has no intention to change that.

Excellent dancer given that she's trained since childhood. She dances about as much for the artistry of it as for the self-expression it allows without having to speak her feelings out.

She also went through the GLD/PLD quests in Ul'dah, and that's mainly how she's been fighting since then.

She's also a surprisingly good poet and singer, albeit that's not known to many people.

Hobbies: Writing or reading poetry, singing, dancing and trying out new food (including the kind of food that even the most adventurous people hesitate to put in their mouth). She's pretty receptive to art in general to be honest and will gladly watch plays or go to concerts if she can.

Mount Issuance: Aïcha didn't join any free company. That'd mean taking orders and she's no soldier, so she didn't have a mount until Haurchefant offered her her black chocobo. As you can guess, it's been her mount ever since.

For those curious, the series Purple Stars and its three introductory short stories (S H A T T E R E D, F A L L E N, S T U C K) are actually written with an experimental style. I play with void space in the story, alongside using the zalgo text to represent things "erased" or bound to the "void".

This means when viewed on AO3 the story has a little different formatting. There's large swaths of nothing between certain portions of text in part to reference the fact that Aster is in the void, in part to reference the fleeting of thought, in part to reference Aster falling. It's been...interesting.

So if you want the full effect of the story, AO3 has the complete formatting. For the sake of brevity I removed the play with void space on tumblr, and my original writing doesn't have it either because it broke up the flow of as I was writing it. It's something I edit in after I finish the chapters.

The other reason that the chapters are so short is in part that I want to get the concepts of it out as a whole. I want to get everything that leads up to M E M O R Y out clearly, before I delve into the crossover aspects of the story.

It's been fun, experimenting. It feels like writing poetry again, playing with word spacing. It's been a while since I really wanted to...flex, formatting, in this way. Let me know your thoughts.

I plan to work on my other active stories (Run It Again, Patriciate) when I'm feeling up to it again. I've been dealing with some rather gnarly depression, which I'm sure has been showing itself in the angst aspect of Purple Stars. Writing this story though has helped, a little. As has getting a work schedule of shorter days. Now if only I can get the schedule to stay firm. Or be done with it entirely.

If I could I would honestly just turn into a streamer, because I have a back injury that keeps flaring up and I'm honestly not sure how much longer I will be able to actively work in a high mobility focused environment such as vetmed. Maybe a few years, but in those few years I might actually end up disabling myself in a more permanent manner and I...don't want to do that.

Anyway, experimenting. It's fun.

Latin Alphabet Revisited: Pars Ⅱ—consonants and digraphs

So last time i talked about vowels in latin, and before i proceed i'd like to make a slight correction: Y in classical latin was most likely pronounced as U which makes sense - some romans would probably know to pronounce it as a rounded i sound having received greek education, but anyway

So the second, larger part of the alphabet is of course made up of consonants. There's little to talk about here imo except some letters that might cause some confusion but I'll go over all of them anyway

so the consonants of the latin alphabet are

although if you went a bit back in time you'd find the consonant inventory a little bit smaller at

there might be some mistakes, as I am not showing them at a specific point in time, merely listing the ones I know have stuck around since the earliest days

anyway as you can see, at some point the Latin alphabet lacked letters G J and Z - funnily enough, Z was present in the earliest forms of the latin alphabet (and stood between F and H like Ζζ does in the greek alphabet!) but it didn't see much use, so it was dropped

G essentially arose out of necessity—its inventor was Spurius Carvillius Ruga, who supposedly was tired of people pronouncing his cognomen wrong, because at the time both sounds /k/ and /g/ were written with ⟨C⟩ (as K had fallen out of favour and remained in use mostly for abbreviations and to write the word Kalendæ (calends, the first day of the month, etymon of the word Calendar) so he added a stroke to distinguish them

curious might be the inclusion of ⟨i⟩ to some of you: well originally i and v were originally both vowels and consonants—/i~j/ and /u~w/ respectively (which also means that if I wanted to be extra accurate, I could've written the u's as v's, as that's how romans would have done it, but our current latin spelling convention prefers to use ⟨u⟩ for that

Anyway the pronunciation B /b/; C /k/ - in all positions despite what the ecclesiastical (church) pronunciation or most national pronunciations do D /d/; F /f/; G /g/ - as with C, no matter the position it is pronounced as a hard g H /h/; I/J /j/ - this pronunciation occurs when the letter is surrounded by vowels, or at the beginning of the word while being followed by another vowel (e.g. in IVVENIS - nowadays written as iuvenis or juvenis). I'll make a post about the validity of using J in latin spelling some other day! K /k/ - I'll make a post discussing C K and Q another day, as all three make the same sounds, and it may seem like a weird case of redundancy, especially since K, as I said before, didn't see much use L /l/; M /m/ - today it is agreed upon that the classical pronunciation also featured nasalisation (like the thing that happens in French) of vowels in certain environments, usually triggered by M and N - the ending -um was especially guilty of this - but that's another topic for another day! N /n/; P /p/; Q /k/; R /r/; S /s/; T /t/; V /w/ - similar situation to I/J, where it could be used both as a vowel and as a consonant. Again, IVVENIS/iuvenis is an amazing example here X /ks/ Z /z/ - this letter never appears in native latin words, and the sound isn't native to latin either, it was re-borrowed into latin upon the roman conquest of greece (despite having been part of the alphabet before dropping it lmao - anyway that's the reason Z is at the end of the alphabet now), and it was most likely pronounced /ts/ (like in modern italian). In poetry it counted as two consonants, possibly because in ancient greek it was pronounced either /zd/ or /dz/ (about which I will talk in yet another post)

Ok so with single consonants out of the way, let us discuss the digraphs: there are six notable digraphs in latin I believe:

AE, OE, PH, TH, CH, RH

let's start with ae and oe - those two are usually pronounced identically to E in most traditional and the ecclesiastical pronunciation. Romans however pronounced it more as a diphtong - for example Caesar (Cesar the name) - in German the word became Kaiser, which reflects the antique pronunciation, as e in the diphtong would often sound very close to i.

Ph, Th, and Ch are all roman attempts to transcribe the letters φ (phi) θ (theta) and χ (chi), and similarly to those letters, they are pronounced as apsirated plosives (p in party, t in tonne, c in cake - sorry if I got these wrong, I pronounce them with aspirated plosives and no one seems to find it weird) rather than f english th and english ch or something like that

and now rh - seemingly the most useless digraph in all of latin - this one is another spelling adaptation made to accurately transcribe greek loanwords, and the reason behind is the fact that the greek rhotic - ρ - could actually become unvoiced in two situations: - at the beginning of the word (e.g. of such loanwords in latin rho, rhombus, Rhodus/Rhodos) - when geminated (doubled) in which case the second r would become unvoiced (e.g. diarrhoea, Pyrrhus)

So there it is! I think that's all for the Latin alphabet for now, in future posts I will be explaining some history or fun facts regarding the latin alphabet (such as the C-K-Q redundancy), describe the greek alphabet, and of course start doing some grammar and vocab on here!

because someday i had to hop on the bandwagon after reading them for so long.

DISCLAIMER: these observations all come from personal experience, i am no professional astrologer, only take what resonates!

☁️ venus in the cancer-capricorn axis are so damn underrated. i swear, these people are the ultimate providers in relationships, and they'll always be there for you when you need it, true ride or die energy with these people.

☁️ i can never realize someone's a pisces rising until they show me their chart. pisces in general tends to be very flowy and adaptable, so it may be more natural for these risings to blend in with the crowd.  h o w e v e r , their eyes might be a good giveaway. they tend to have an overall soft, watery look even if they're not blue (examples: billie eilish, michael jackson, zayn malik).

☁️ speaking of pisces placements, i've noticed most of the ones i know have shown deep interest in different artistic pursuits, specially songwriting, poetry, photography and film.

☁️ the same goes for leos but with them (and i say these as someone who attracts way too much leo energy) it's more related to performing arts. the ones i've seen more interested in writing also had a virgo mercury.

☁️ i've never seen two capricorns have a peaceful relationship with their parents, there's always one of them who prefers not to talk about it.

☁️ this is a popular one, but stop with the oversexualization of scorpio placements. the scorpio archetype has to do with many more things such as discoveries, taboo, mystery, emotional depth, secrets, the unknown, looking deep within ourselves, psychology. it is also related to sexuality, but... chill out on that aspect, please.

☁️ aquarius placements culture is saying: "i did x before it was popular". and i am directing this towards most of gen z because we all have at least one generational planet in there (could be uranus, neptune or both -i have both). if they're personal planets, of course the effect is even more intense.

☁️ the sagittarius-gemini axis gets the best ranter award, i swear i could hear these guys talk for hours.

☁️ can some people stop stereotyping sag and gemini venuses as cheaters? as a sag venus, i do tend to get bored easily, but that doesn't mean i'll cheat, i just need someone who can keep up with a great amount of energy and my random rants at 1am about useless topics.

☁️ look at the top students in your class, they probably have an earth or air mercury since those are the elements where mercury's the most comfortable in. that doesn't mean that if you have a water/fire mercury you're dumb, by the way, it's just that communication may not be as effective and striaghtforward, with cold hard facts.

☁️ people with aquarius in personal planets can go from "fashion icon" to "wtf were you thinking??" way too fast. but you guys, just like your sister sign leo, certainly do not go unnoticed.

☁️ i have come to the conclusion that the most intense energy belongs to fixed signs. i can feel those folks from a mile away. i've also been living in a fixed dominant family my whole life, so i have experience with them in general.

☁️ speaking of fixed signs, i'd like to add that not only tauruses are the monarchs of stubbornness, but the entire fixed mode can have that characteristic as well. of course, it depends of the entire chart, but when i encounter someone who's a fixed dominant and they disagree with me on something, even though i'm right, i just let them be for a while. they probably won't admit you were right and might act like it was their idea all along, though.

☁️ you may tend to enjoy music made by people who have personal placements landing on your fifth house. for example, i am an aries rising, so my 5H lands in leo, sign that many of my favorite artists have as their big three (rina sawayama, woodz, phoebe bridgers and jesse rutherford are leo suns; jungkook and heize are leo moons). also pay attention to the signs in your 8H and 12H along with your venus sign, your faves could have important placements in those.

☁️ fire risings all radiate main characte, given that the houses are all in the elements they are the most comortable in (the 1st is in a fire sign, the 2nd in earth, the 3rd in air, 4th in water, etc.). and in the case of aries risings, we have all our houses "in order".

☁️ people tend to stereotype aries placements as the ones with anger issues (when we're just being passionate, btw 🙄), but... have you guys seen a taurus? specifically a taurus mars? they'll raise hell if you cross the limits of their patience.

January Wrap Up

Please excuse the fact that we are nearly done with February. I spent what felt like the entire month of January moving into my house. Obviously I was not about to mess with updating my spreadsheet on my phone (shudders), so it had to wait until I got internet set up a couple weeks ago. And then I discovered Airtable by way of my fanfic mom @amypc1 and decided I needed to start off the new year using this tool rather than a spreadsheet. It took me an ungodly amount of time to figure out how I wanted to set up my Airtable - like, literal days. I'm not kidding. I'm fully aware of how fucking ridiculous I am.

Anyways, I still managed to read a healthy amount of words.
