Relationship Charts (OC x Canon)
None of these are canon, this is just mainly for my self-indulgence
JakuSaya
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First to confess: Both. It happened by complete accident, Sayaka had finally built up her courage to confess only to get blindsided by Jakurai’s, it still makes her blush to this day,
First to apologize: Both would actually, but Sayaka would apologize faster as she absolutely hates getting into arguments and would want to make amends immediately after.
Most popular/charismatic: Both. The two of them are both highly respected people in their respective cities and are well known in their respective occupations, with both of them in the DRB, their popularity has skyrocketed.
Best caregiver: Jakurai. Man is literally a doctor, what more can I say?
Does the cooking: Sayaka. One of her favorite hobbies is cooking and she’s always making meals for people, honestly, if not for Jakurai’s insistence to let him help every once in a while, Sayaka would be the sole chef in the household.
Does the housework: Both. It’s a team effort and actually a nice way to spend time together, nothing screams “romance” like folding the laundry together.
Speaks the most: Sayaka. She’s a very extroverted woman, sometimes when she gets going, it’s kinda hard for her to stop, when people point out that she’s rambling, she gets all blushy and embarrassed but others think it’s very endearing.
The overprotective one: Jakurai. It might be due to his past life as an assassin and the fact that he has lost an important person in his life so no one can blame him for being overprotective but thankfully he knows Sayaka can handle herself and doesn’t worry about her too much.
Designated driver: It depends, usually it’s Jakurai but sometimes Sayaka takes the wheel.
Has good penmanship: Jakurai. Every time he writes something, it looks like 1800s calligraphy, seriously, how can someone write like that?
More relationship experience: Sayaka. She’s dated a few people before settling down with Yoshiki so it’s safe to say that Sayaka has more experience.
Subtle to changes: Both. Jakurai is very perceptive (again, he was an assassin) and Sayaka is very empathetic.
The one who proposes: Jakurai. After much, much pestering from both Lola and Hifumi, he finally popped the question, it took him 10 minutes for him to calm Sayaka down and wiped her tears. (She said yes, of course).
RamuLola
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First to confess: Both, much to the surprise of the other.
First to apologize: Neither. They’re both petty bitches, honestly every argument ends with them forgetting what they were fighting about and getting back together (make up sex).
Most popular/charismatic: Both. A popular fashion designer and a famous model? Honestly people were wondering why they haven’t gotten together sooner.
Best caregiver: Lola. With the life she’s had and taking it upon herself to take care of Kureha from time to time, Lola is actually a pretty good nurse.
Does the cooking: Lola. She kinda had to learn if she didn’t want to starve to death, it’s kinda a habit now even if she has the money to hire a chef. Ramuda eats lollipops 24/7 so it’s safe to say that he can’t cook for shit.
Does the housework: Neither lmao. At least Lola does have housekeeping.
Speaks the most: Ramuda. The guy is a walking chatterbox, there has definitely been times where Lola had to kiss him to get him to shut up (which 9 times out of 10 resulted in makeout sessions).
The overprotective one: Ramuda, surprisingly. With Chuuoku breathing down his neck at almost every waking moment, he’s more worried about Lola’s safety than his own. His worst fear is that they’re going to use her against him.
Designated driver: Lola. Along with cooking, Ramuda also can’t drive to save his life, in fact, it almost ended his when he got behind the wheel for the first time (couldn’t see above the dashboard).
Has good penmanship: Lola. Having to sign autographs and magazines has made her a pro at giving out signatures.
More relationship experience: Both. I feel like that should be obvious.
Subtle to changes: Ramuda. I feel like people don’t give him enough credit, he’s very perceptive, he just hides it behind a cheery front.
The one who proposes: Lola. She made one joke, once, while they were watching trashy TV shows and the next day, she walked into Ramuda’s studio to find him working on a wedding dress.
IchiReha
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First to confess: Ichiro. Kureha was a blushing wreck after he finished, he actually had to prompt her to say something afterwards. (“A-AH! YES..yes, yeah…I l-like you too…”).
First to apologize: Kureha. She really hates arguing with Ichiro and wants to do whatever she can to make amends. Luckily, they don’t fight as much if at all.
Most popular/charismatic: Ichiro. C’mon, that’s a given, Ichiro says that he’s not that popular but all Kureha has to do is open the window curtains and point that the crowd of people chanting the man’s name.
Best caregiver: Ichiro. This is the guy who’s raising his two younger brothers, he’s practically a professional.
Does the cooking: Both, despite what people believe, Kureha’s a pretty decent cook due to Sayaka’s influence and Ichiro believes that cooking together can help strengthen a bond so they make it a habit to cook together for the household.
Does the housework: Both. Again, it’s a team effort and a way to spend time together. Did you know that mopping the floor is extremely romantic?
Speaks the most: Ichiro. He’s a naturally confident guy and has no problems speaking his mind, unlike Kureha, who only speaks when she’s spoken to most of the time.
The overprotective one: Kureha. She’s lost everything and nearly everyone she’s cared about and had to literally start over from scratch so you can’t blame her for being overprotective. She knows that her mafia days are long behind her and that Ichiro is definitely capable of protecting himself but still…she worries.
Designated driver: Ichiro. I headcanon that he knows how to drive but doesn’t own a car and uses rentals. Kureha is being taught how to drive by Lola but feels more comfortable taking the trains.
Has good penmanship: Kureha. She is an artist, artist have good penmanship due to signing each of their drawings after finishing.
More relationship experience: Neither. They’re each other’s first.
Subtle to changes: Kureha. She’s quite perceptive (and has a habit of just…staring at Ichiro, taking in everything that’s him.) so she definitely knows if something has changed with him.
The one who proposes: Ichiro, it’s very reminiscent of his confession, yes, including Kureha being non-responsive and almost passing out due to the amount of blood rapidly rushing to her head.

Kaiju Week in Review (March 10-16, 2024)
"It looks as though its Japanese producers, assisted by a stray American—fellow named Terry Morse, who is an alumnus of Hollywood's Poverty Row—made a close study of the old film, "King Kong," then tried to do substantially the same thing with a miniature of a dinosaur made of gum-shoes and about $20 worth of toy buildings and electric trains." —Bosley Crowther, reviewing Godzilla, King of the Monsters! for The New York Times
"The special effects are hardly special, but hey, what do you expect in a Japanese monster movie?" —Tony Kiss, reviewing Godzilla 1985 for the Asheville Citizen-Times
"Sure it's bad filmmaking. Sure it's a guy—actor Tsutomu Kitagawa—clad in a nearly vintage latex Godzilla getup and stomping through Tokyo, knocking down cardboard mini-buildings and upending toy-sized cars with his gnarly feet. But that's the point." —Bob Longino, reviewing Godzilla 2000 for The Palm Beach Post

Godzilla Minus One won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards, sending a stunned Takashi Yamazaki (VFX supervisor), Kiyoko Shibuya (VFX director), Masaki Takahashi (3D CG director), and Tatsuji Nojima (VFX artist/compositor) to the Dolby Theatre stage. Said Yamazaki, reading from prepared comments in English, "To someone so far from Hollywood, the possibility of standing on this stage seemed out of reach." I could scarcely believe what I was watching myself, despite having given a presentation for a Wikizilla stream mere hours before on Minus One's very real chances of beating more expensive American contenders. Everything I said about its nomination goes triple for its victory; we'll be talking about this one forever. To those of us who remember when Godzilla was basically a joke in the American consciousness (including my Wikizilla colleague Darthlord1997, who had a speech of his own prepared), it's the ultimate vindication.
youtube
Never one to rest on his laurels, Takashi Yamazaki directed an ad for Ajinomoto about food waste which released this week. It features the unsubtly-named Foodlosslla attacking Tokyo and facing an Ultraman-esque defense team. As with Minus One, the ad's visuals are a clever combination of high-end (a detailed CG monster) and low-end (dropping plastic fruit on top of fleeing extras).
youtube
Last year, the 4Kids Flashback podcast interviewed Mike Pecoriello, producer and writer for the company's renditions of Yu-Gi-Oh! and Ultraman Tiga, and he delivered some major news about the latter. Although only 23 episodes of Tiga aired in the U.S., 4Kids dubbed the whole thing. At the time of the podcast's recording, he thought he made copies of all the episodes, but while that doesn't seem to be the case, he did provide 4Kids Flashback with the series finale. It's a good deal more serious than the episodes which aired, with the quips kept to a minimum. Let the hunt for the rest commence!

SciFi Japan has details on Kaiju Yarrow, a Japanese comedy doubling as a tourism ad for the city of Seki. The premise is very self-aware:
KAIJU YARROW! is set in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture. One day, 30 year old Ichiro Yamada, who works in the tourism department of a government office, is ordered by the mayor to produce a "local film.'' However, Yamada, didn't want to produce the typical "mediocre local movies'' that are everywhere nowadays, so he comes up with the idea of making a "monster movie'', which has been his life-long dream. However, his dreams develops into a major incident involving the city government...! Will Yamada be able to complete his life goal of making a monster movie??
Junichiro Yagi will direct; YouTuber Gunpee will star. Unknown quantities both when it comes to kaiju, so how this will turn out is anyone's guess.

Tickets for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire have gone on sale in the U.S.—and as a reminder, the brief GKIDS theatrical release of The End of Evangelion wraps tomorrow.

Summary:
Journey to the West, one of the four great Chinese classical novels, has taken on a completely different look in the hands of the Japanese manga master Osamu Tezuka. Sun Wukong, who was born from a stone, once dominated the world and made a living by cutting people on the streets. Later, he was imprisoned by the evil king and met Little Draong Girl. After that, he became a disciple of Draong Immortal, and not only learned 72 transformations, but also got the precious Ruyi Jingu Bang. Sun Wukong, who had greatly increased his abilities, gathered in the mountains and forests, robbed the rich and helped the poor, and even alarmed the heavens, causing a series of good dramas in the heavens. In the end, he was suppressed under the Five Fingers Mountain by the Buddha because he overestimated his own abilities. With the help of the timid Tang Monk, Sun Wukong regained his freedom. Later, they met Zhu Bajie, who was wearing a suit and a bow tie, and Sha Wujing, who loved money and dug for treasures everywhere. The master and his disciples thus embarked on a dangerous and fun adventure to the West...

Here’s a quicker version of himikos backstory like I promised
Himikos birth name was Akatani Shinamoru which yes again is the same as another oc but that’s why she changed her name later on
When Himiko was born her parents hated her and abused her
Then when she was five she was diagnosed as quirkless
After that her parents became more abusive
The only light in her life was her friend, Jun Hano
Her and Jun planned to run away together on her half birthday and start their life anew
They were gonna rename themselves as Mei and Tei
But the night before her fifth and a half birthday himikos parents brought someone over to the house
That someone referred to himself as the doctor
Then the doctor killed her parent’s, lit her house on fire, and kidnapped her
She was experimented on for a year and a half
Throughout that year her hair turned white
Her right eye glowed a brighter blue
And her left eye turned white
She also gained three quirks, a teleportation quirk, a regeneration quirk, and an intelligence quirk
Roughly six months into her being stuck with the doctor he stopped the experimentation and started training her
She was taught taekwondo karate and jieitaikakutōjutsu then formed her own fighting style from what she learned
After the year and a half she escaped but ended up being kidnapped again by someone else
This someone else name was Jin Takahashi
Jin ran a fighting ring where villains could fight with each other either with or without quirks
But Jin would also kidnap people and force them into fights to the death
Jin ended up putting Himiko into this fighting ring and she was forced to fight to the death with both adults and kids alike
She was stuck there for three years from age seven to ten and a half
Throughout those three years she was fighting almost every day
She had been forced into so many fights to the death that she had been forced to kill 685 people
But eventually heroes and police found out about this fighting ring and took it down arresting dozens of villains and Jin
But after three years of Himiko being made to fight Jin had constantly told her that if she tried to run she would simply be arrested for killing so many people
So she ran. Himiko then tried to turne her life around by changing her name and calling herself Mei Himiko
She went to the library often and taught herself everything she missed out on learning and more
She learned over ten languages, two types of sign language, and up to college level math, reading, writing, science, history, and more.
After six months of constant study along with hacking into police files to make it seem as though Mei Himiko had always existed and was just another eleven year old who was homeschooled
But also at eleven she decided to try and use her fighting capabilities for good rather than evil and she became the vigilante known as shadow
But eventually after three years she allowed herself to be caught and ended up in a vigilante reform program, she was also adopted by either aizawa or another oc of mine name Rena Itsika
She was also enrolled into class 1a of the UA hero course and is now training to become a hero!
Yay you all finally have her backstory though tbh it’s ever changing
Also here’s five fun facts about my au!
1: both Shinsou and kaminari are adopted by aizawa and were actually rescued from their bio parents by shadow and aizawa!
2: next has an adopted child who’s name is Ichiro Aikawa and they go by they/them pronouns, they weren’t rescued by shadow tho
3: I ship erasermic so they are married!
4: due to me reading a lot of fanfics I have come to love midnight so she is a bit more child friendly in this au and her outfit looks like that because of her quirk coming out of her skin! She also totally a mom friend and is super sweet
5: I hate m!neta so instead of him being in class a we have Shinsou!
And that’s all the fun facts I have! Hope you have a lovely day, and my phone is on six percent so I gotta go plug it in! Bye!

Utena & Mecha
Something that occurred to me while thinking about Revolutionary Girl Utena and its influence on Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, is that Utena, while firmly in the magical genre, has a surprising amount of connections to the mecha genre.
Probably the most well-known of these is that Neon Genesis Evangelion[1], a show that was at least partially inspired by Hideaki Anno[2] being a fan of Mobile Suit Gundam[3], had staff (including Yoji Enokido[4], Shinya Hasegawa[5], Kazuya Tsurumaki[6], and Toru Takahashi[7]) who would go on to work in various positions on Utena, with Enokido and Hasegawa in particular being part of Be-PaPas[8], the pen name of the key group of people in charge of Utena's development.
In addition to this connection, another member of Be-Papas, Chiho Saito[9], was also a fan of the original Mobile Suit Gundam, and not only has drawn art of Char Aznable and Lalah Sune[10], but was even inspired by the latter to make Anthy Indian[11]. As an aside, it should be noted that Saito, in addition to being the mangaka behind the Utena manga, also worked with Ichiro Okouchi[12], the main writer of Witch from Mercury, on a pair of light novels that elaborated on a couple of episdoes from the Utena TV series.
In addition to being influenced by mecha anime (Gundam in particular, both directly and indirectly), Utena has also gone on to influence future mecha anime.
The first of these would be FLCL[13], in which Tsurumaki and Enokido collaborated on another tale of surreal adolescence, albeit one which, among other things, substituted magical swords emerging from people's chests for giant robots emerging from their foreheads instead.
Another example is Gunbuster 2[14][15], in which Tsurumaki and Enokido worked together again on another story of surreal adolscence and giant robots, set in space this time, and with two leads who take visual inspiration from Utena and Anthy, one of whom was inspired by the other to become a prince mecha pilot.
Enokido would go on to team up with Takuya Igarashi[16], whom had previously worked with Enokido on Utena (under a pen name) and Ouran High School Host Club[17] (also influenced by Utena, though more focused on comedy), which resulted in Star Driver[18], yet again a tale of surreal adolescence and giant robots, but this time featuring a secret dueling game in a high school and a marriage of mecha fights with magical girl aesthetics.
Witch from Mercury is interesting then, in that it both hearkens to this history of Utena-influenced mecha but is also a departure from it, eschewing the surrealism of Utena, while sharing the show's appreciation of symbolism, theatricality, and queerness, and instead using and remixing elements of Utena's narrative structure and character archetypes. This more grounded approach to Utena, coupled with additional narrative elements from Shakespeare's The Tempest, as well as corporate politics and violence more traditional to Gundam, makes perhaps the most fitting tribute Mobile Suit Gundam can give to Utena and its history of strange association with mecha anime.

Isao Shirasawa, Chishu Ryu, Chieko Higashiyama, Setsuko Hara, Ichiro Sugai, Kuniko Miyake, and Zen Murase in Early Summer (Yasujiro Ozu, 1951) Cast: Setsuko Hara, Chishu Ryu, Chikage Awashima, Kuniko Miyake, Ichiro Sugai, Chieko Higashiyama, Haruko Sugimura, Kuniko Igawa, Hiroshi Nihon'yanagi. Shuji Sano, Toyo Takahashi, Seiji Miyaguchi. Screenplay: Kogo Noda, Yasujiro Ozu. Cinematography: Yuharu Atsuta. Art direction: Tatsuo Hamada. Film editing: Yoshiyasu Hamamura. Music: Senji Ito. Early Summer is the second of the "seasonal" films made by Yasujiro Ozu in what is now recognized as his peak postwar period. The first was Late Spring (1949), and they were followed by Early Spring (1956), Late Autumn (1960), The End of Summer (1961), and An Autumn Afternoon (1962). I mention this chiefly because the English-language titles confuse even Ozu's hard-core admirers, among whom I count myself. "Was that Early Summer or The End of Summer?" we find ourselves asking when we're talking about Ozu's films. The confusion is further compounded by the fact that four of them starred the marvelous Setsuko Hara. It also doesn't help that the name of her character in Early Summer is Noriko, which was the name of her characters in Late Spring and Tokyo Story (Ozu, 1953). So we have to remind ourselves that in Early Summer she is Noriko Mamiya, the unmarried 28-year-old daughter of Shukichi (Ichiro Sugai) and Shige Mamiya (Chieko Higashiyama). She lives with them as well as with her brother, Koichi (Chishu Ryu), and sister-in-law, Fumiko (Kuniko Miyake), and their two bratty sons. She also has a well-paying clerical job and a group of old girlfriends from her schooldays. So why does everyone, even her boss, want her to get married? When her boss starts arranging things with an old business friend of his, her family encourages the connection, even though she's never met the man and he's in his early 40s. Noriko has a mind of her own, however, and eventually surprises everyone -- perhaps even herself -- with her decision. It's a comedy-drama in which nothing exciting happens -- even key events like the search for the bratty boys when they decide to run away from home take place mostly off-screen -- but Ozu holds everything in such delicate suspension, allowing us to meditate on the relationships at length, that we get caught up in the everyday lives of the film's huge cast. There are some wonderful scenes between Noriko and her girlfriends, who share the kind of in-jokes that old friends everywhere have. Some of these are lost in translation, but even that reminds us of real life, when we're left out of a group's established routines. And sometimes the subtitles wittily help us out, finding equivalents for the hick accents Noriko and her friend adopt when talking about the possibility of moving from Tokyo to the country. Ozu and co-screenwriter Kogo Noda bring the characters to life in their private moments, as when Shukichi and Shige talk wistfully about the son who remained MIA after the war, or when they see a balloon floating ahead and reflect on how sad the child who lost it must be. No filmmaker had a profounder sense of the inner lives of people in their ordinary routine.

Eat right live longer: Could a moderate protein diet be the coveted elixir of youth?
As the proverb “You are what you eat” goes, the type of food we consume influences our health and longevity all through our lives. In fact, there is a direct association between age-related nutritional requirements and metabolic health. Optimal nutrition according to age can help maintain metabolic health, thereby improving the health span (period of life without diseases) and lifespan of an individual. Different nutritional interventions involving varied calorie and protein intake have been known to improve the health and lifespan of rodents and primates. Furthermore, recent studies have also reported the association of dietary macronutrients (proteins, carbohydrates, fats) with cardio-metabolic health and aging in mice. However, the amount of protein that must be consumed to maintain metabolic health is not known. In a new study published in GeroScience on April 28, 2023, a team of researchers led by Assistant Professor Yoshitaka Kondo from Waseda University, Japan, investigated the amount of dietary protein needed to improve metabolic health in mice approaching old age. The team, which also included Dr. Takuya Chiba, Faculty of Human Sciences, Waseda University, Dr. Akihito Ishigami, Molecular Regulation of Aging, Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Geriatrics and Gerontology, Dr. Hitoshi Aoki, Research and Development Division, Nichirei Foods Inc, and Dr. Shin-Ichiro Takahashi, Department of Animal Sciences and Applied Biological Chemistry, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, University of Tokyo. They recruited young (6 months old) and middle-aged (16 months old) male C57BL/6NCr mice who were fed isocaloric diets with varying protein content (5 to 45 %) for two months. After two months, the effect of varying protein diets was assessed based on measurements of skeletal muscle weight, liver and plasma lipid profiles, and self-organizing map (SOM) cluster analysis of plasma amino acid profiles. When asked about the motivation behind their study, Kondo explains, “The optimal balance of macronutrients for ideal health outcomes may vary across different life stages. Previous studies show the possibility of minimizing age-specific mortality throughout life by changing the ratio of dietary protein to carbohydrates during approach to old age in mice. However, the amount of protein that should be consumed to maintain metabolic health while approaching old age is still unclear.” The team observed that the consumption of a low-protein diet led to the development of mild fatty liver, with increased levels of hepatic lipids in middle-aged mice as compared to young mice. In contrast, a moderate-protein diet led to reduced blood glucose concentrations and lipid levels in both liver and plasma. These findings indicate that a moderate-protein diet (25% and 35%) kept both young and middle-aged mice metabolically healthier. On examining the effect of varying protein diets on plasma amino acid concentrations in mice of both age groups, the researchers observed that the plasma concentration of individual amino acids varied with age and varying dietary protein content. This was further validated using SOM analysis of the plasma amino acids. Furthermore, the plasma amino acid profiles revealed using SOM analysis showed the correlation between different protein intake and the varying amounts of hepatic triglycerides and cholesterol levels. Discussing the impact of their study on public health, Kondo remarks, “Protein requirements change through the course of life, being higher in younger reproductive mice, reducing through middle age, and rising again in older mice as protein efficiency declines. The same pattern is likely to be observed in humans. Therefore, it could be assumed that increasing daily protein intake in meals could promote metabolic health of people. Moreover, ideal dietary macronutrient balance at each life stage could also extend health span.” In conclusion, a balanced diet with moderate amounts of protein could be the key to a long and healthy life.
