the first major snowfall in ages finally hit nyc recently and all im imaging is the Polycule attaching snowboards and the such to the back of simons van and them just being happy with snow day activities

oof, this ask is from so many months ago, i'm so sorry. i was very busy. i'm also not sure how great my answer will be because i'm a whole ass brazilian so i have no idea what snow day activies are, but i will try anyway

so, major advantages: meliorn has magic and maia is a werewolf and if i'm not mistaken it's said or implied that werewolves have a higher core body temperature than humans. or maybe i made that up, but it's canon for me

major disadvantages: raphael and simon are vampires, which means that technically they are kind of "cold-blooded" creatures? i mean they would still have other important temperature regulating mechanisms such as mitochrondrial heat production and muscle contraction, but they basically don't have a heartbeat/blood flow/arguably blood at all, which is a major way of regulating core temperature, and canonically their skin feels pretty cold, so like. they probably are more suscetible to temperature changes is what i'm saying (i'm mostly going off this source [link] for this. i'm already overthinking this answer good job me)

plus i am once again saying that raphael is from guadalajara which means that like me he is used to Worm Temperchoores, like, WAY warmer than NYC's, and he grew up without pretty much any kind of snow at all. and sure he's lived in NYC for years so he's SOMEWHAT used to the cold but he still spent his formative years in guadalajara, so like. he fucking hates the cold, is my point

but back to major advantages: meliorn and magic! which means they can do something about it. don't ask me what, but i'm sure they can do Something. i mean i'm sure to some extent the downworld has already figured out a solution to this problem cuz while it might not kill them (since they're immortal) it is very uncomfortable and probably makes them slower, which is a disadvantage to say the least. plus raphael has magnus who knows that raphael is a grumpy ass in the cold. also i think java is similarly hot so magnus Gets It, but idk what the temperatures usually are in jakarta

anyway my point is that magnus probably got some coats/vests/blankets spelled for his boy so they can keep him toasty (since they are otherwise kinda useless for vampires since they rely on trapping body heat and vampires don't have any) and vampires in general probably have access to that kinda stuff, but still, rapha gets grumpy and his face is still cold and everything is just awful and he doesn't understand how gringos do it. his complaints fly for about 2 days before the New Yorker Squad™ (particularly simon and maia, who drag clary and inevitably everyone else is there) decides that they've had enough of this and that raphael will learn how to enjoy the snow

he is like "i am not willingly going into the snow! you don't understand, i'm a vampire, i won't get back my body heat the way you do". simon: "i literally am also a vampire". raphael: "you're just a fledgeling, you wouldn't understand" "i've been a vampire for like, ten years!" "seven" "same thing" "it's so not the-" "i have gone through enough winters to be able to understand, and you, sir, are going to learn to enjoy the snow. have you EVER even made a snow angel?" "no" "well this changes today"

he literally has no excuse because meliorn has this super sweet spell that keeps him from losing heat so like. he doesn't even need a coat (he's still wearing it and preferably also a scarf and gloves because he is, first and foremost, dramatic) so he is forced to have a day off and go play in the snow, woe is him

(he tells the clan that should they need anything they should ring him, but they're like "nah simon has promised us pictures of you in the snow, we can handle ourselves" and it's not like raphael is too busy these days, really)

anyway! they have fun. simon strikes me as the winter lover kind of person altho really i think he enjoys all seasons in their own way, but like... hot chocolate and scarves and snow fights, yes? and while i think maia might prefer warmer temperatures she can double enjoy herself in the snow now that she's a werewolf because she gets less cold and like, damn, tell me that being a wolf and jumping headfirst into a pile of snow wouldn't be fun. you can't, unless you're a bad taste bitch

i also think maia is the building snow forts kind of gal because, idk, she just looks that way. and sure she's excited about kicking everyone's asses during snowball fight but FIRST she needs to have a full fort complete with towers and windows for her to throw snowballs from and shit

rapha is the one that helps her build it the most cuz he likes the motions and besides it is a little less energetic than whatever it is that the rest of these wackos are doing. again izzy didn't get any chances to play in the snow either so naturally clary is dragging her around from snow activity to snow activity and running around everywhere and holy shit they have so much energy. simon is there as well naturally and eventually they make it their goal in life to ruin maia's and rapha's fort, which ends up kickstarting the mandatory snowball fight. even tho maia only has a half complete fort

(eventually when everyone has left maia and rapha will come back and finish the fort. it's the principle of the thing. raphael also wants to build an igloo or some shit and maia rolls her eyes but actually i can see him being into building snow things? it's just soothing and nice and quiet and he can pretend there's Elegance and Finesse to it)

and meliorn is just watching them curiously the whole time because of course they know snow but they dont really know about Snow Activities these funky little non-seelies dedicate themselves too. i feel like the seelies have their own snow activities, maybe like, festivals? dances with the snowfall and games to welcome the change in the environment, that sort of thing. but they are nothing like snow angels ("it doesn't look like an angel in the slightest, just like you kept moving your legs and arms in the snow" "thats what it is" "right, so...?") or snowmen ("also doesn't look like a man" "meliorn we aren't exactly artists") or snow fights (altho that one they can appreciate) and they're really interested in like participating even though they dont understand and everyone has to keep telling them that it's Not That Deep and izzy is so amused she just kisses them one billion times

eventually they start doing it just to get more of those laugh-filled kisses of hers

also at least one of them, probably izzy of rapha or meliorn since they are the snow ignorant ones of the group, is absolutely horrible at making snowmen. probably izzy tbh because shadowhunters dont exactly have a knack for these things. like clary's snowman is all artistic and simon's is fun and creative, maia's is pretty, raphael's and meliorn's look like the Platonic Ideal Of A Snowman, and izzy's looks like A Pile Of Dirt. clary giggles at it for an embarrassing amount of time, which inevitably leads to izzy taking the snow from her snowman to throw snowballs at clary and triggering a new snowfight

and then they have some soup inside and cuddle under a blanket as they fight over what they should watch and all is well with the world

Probably a loaded question, but with all the game engines you've worked with, what are the pros and cons for each? I'm really interested in trying my hand. So far I got rpg maker mv for a paid engine, but I'mma l look into free ones also. (Game Maker seems a bit expensive for my tastes :()

GOD YEAH game maker is... so expensive... i’m hoping my bro gets me it for Christmas when its on sale. but even then like. ouch. that price tag.

so here are all the programs I've used to make my fangame at some point:

uh. long ass post ahead.

COST: 15$

its a visual novel making program! like RPG maker, its not code based, but visual based! you just click and drag the stuff from the left onto the right area and boom. game made. Honestly, a really good introduction to making a video game! Its very basic and simple, which is very newbie friendly. Lots of Youtube videos on how to do things too.

You can technically do more with it by using the program’s coding language OR by using java-script, tho personally i’m not good at coding yet so i never really saw what i could do with it. i haven’t really used it in a year but honestly, i can’t thank it enough for being such a good introduction to game development.

Pros: cheap one time fee, easy for newbies and visual based.

Cons: very limited to just visual novels, and even then to do more complex stuff you really have to work for it to get it to work.

RENPY

COST: FREE

THE free visual novel program. It’s a bit of a learning curve since everything is done in script, (ie: no visuals) BUT its VERY simple and easy to learn and once you get it and it clicks, you can do a lot with it! because you code it yourself, the limits are nearly endless. uses it’s own language, but you can also use python (or its built on python? can’t remember lol) and python is built for newbies.

Pros: free, limited only by what you’re willing to learn to do with code, while you can make RPGS its pretty limited since its not built for it

Cons: only super easy to use once you get over the learning curve. if you have any experience w/ code, its a breeze. if not, still easy to learn!, you can only use it for rpgs, NOT a visual program

(and other RPG Maker game engines)

COST: 50$ (EXPENSIVE! but it does go on sale once in a while. i got mine at 20-ish$)

idk if you plan on making a UT fangame too but its totally possible!!! i’m doing it!! and i would be very happy to share/help others with theirs. i mean. mostly its just plugins from other people, but i did set up a pretty nice inventory and i can show ya’ll how i make the sprites. (since UT has a lot smaller tileset size) and honestly, if you need help w/ this program my instant messenger is always open B)

uh anyway. RPG maker is a godsend for someone like me who is very visual minded and has a hard time grasping code. i know python... ok-ish. im still a noob. ANYWAY yah, theres LOTS of tutorials and plugins you can sink your teeth into, big communities who are all happy to share and help each other out. its pretty great! (actually, you could say the same w/ all these game engines! but the RPG maker forums is like. super nice from what i’ve seen)

so like, with youtube you can learn how to use it within a day or two, frankly. and you can do SO much with it w/ plugins. and the community is ages old, and the game itself is a few years old and has plenty to offer. you need something? likely someone else has made a plugin or forum post on the topic and someone has helped them figure it out. HIGHLY recommend this program if you can afford it (and you already have it, so honestly, just go w/ rpg maker.)

i wouldn’t super recommend the default assets cause the community hates them. they’re way over used and people see it as “lazy.” its good as like, a stepping stone but you shouldn’t rely on them for your whole game if you can manage your own graphics or pay someone to make them. if not, theres still free tilesets you can use if you look for them.

Pros: big friendly community, lots of resources to use, capable of A LOT of things, hassle free for the most part!

Cons: price is big, but it goes on sale often and the older versions of RPG maker aren’t that much different/worse. granted, MV is the best but like, the others aren’t bad. quite a bit to learn at first, but really simple honestly.

COST: Free (sorta. you need a license for certain aspects, but really u could do it free w/ zero issue except for exporting to multiple devices)

ok so like. i don’t. really know how to use unity too well. out of all of these, i haven’t used it for long. while still somewhat visual, you still have to learn a quite a bit of code and look up tutorials to figure out specific things you want to do.

for UT fangames, there is UNITALE/Create Your Own Frisk which uses unity, tho you don’t need the Unity to make games unless you want to make a overworld. since i’m making a overworld and more, i’ll need to learn how to use Unity. It’s a uphill battle but i’m fairly certain i can do it eventually.

there’s a LOT of resources but theres also a LOT to learn. untiy is pretty big and well known, for both 3d and 2d so like, go ham. have fun.

Pros: can do anything

Cons: can do anything so you gotta learn how to do it w/ code.

Cost: has both a subscription and a license you can purchase. its,,, pricey and doesn’t go on sale all too often.

I actually don’t have ANY experience with this program except for like. a few night’s worth. i read the manual if that counts for anything lol.

uh, its very script base and it looks good? uh. idk. its. yeah? i heard its great and i’m sure for that price and for it to be respected so much its got a lot live up to. my brother likes it and hes a Real nerd. so. i guess??? it should be worth it? i’d say wait until around Christmas/later in November for the steam sale if you really want to.

i mean, UT was made with the first one (tho i hear GMS 2 is way better) and toby didn’t know how to code going in so like. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ honestly anyone can learn it and while i haven’t gotten to use it much yet, I want to.

there’s the Undertale Fan Engine made with GMS 2 and i’ve tried it, its pretty extensive and frickin cool.

TLDR; figure out what kind of game and story you want to tell/make. i could of saved a year’s worth of work if i just sat myself down and realized i wanted to make a completely new fangame separate from my old blog stuff. and that i wanted to make an rpg specifically.

honestly, i want to make more games after AL, like, if i could become a indie dev that’d be my dream. (ironic since i don’t play video games LMAO)

but yeah! theres lots of choices, and its all a little overwhelming honestly! if theres anything you need help with w/ any of these programs I am happy to help further. I wish you the best of luck!!!! video game making is hard work but its so worth it!!!

Shadowhunter preference*First Fight

First of all I would like to say this is from my wattpad. My wattpads warlocks_wrath. Its 50 parts so far and I upload daily.

Jace: Family Jace was meant to be coming to your flat tonight to hang out. You lived a couple streets away from the Hotel but still sometimes stayed there. He was over an hour late when he finally arrived. "Hey babe. You lose you watch?" You joked, wanting him to know it was whatever. "Ugh no." he mumbled looking annoyed. You switched the TV off and looked at him. "You alright?" "Uh, why is this so difficult?" You were confused to say the least. He could tell before continuing, "My family hate the idea of you being a vampire. They refuse to even meet you!" He flung himself onto the couch. You just raised an eyebrow before saying. "Really? J calm down. They don't like me, I don't like them. Its whatever." He sat up straight at that. "Why?" "They killed a bunch of vamps for no reason, wrecked our bikes, invaded our hotel, questioned our capability, tortured us with sunlight and oh that's right judge downworlders for no reason. Everyone in my clan doesn't understand why I like you." You didn't see the point in lying. It was all true. "You cant hate my family! Some of that is true but it was mostly my ancestors. Alec and Izzy would never and Mayrse and Robert have learned to accept them." I just snorted at that, "besides you haven even meet them yet." "Or ever." he looked at you kind of angrily, "look Jace, I don't want to meet your family. Maybe Alec because he's your parabatai but its not that important. They don't like me, I don't like them. Besides they're not your real family." You went to turn the TV on and ask what he wanted to watch but he had already left. Damn it! You always forgot how mortals were with their families. You tried texting and calling but he didn't answer. You would have to wait till the sunset. So another 12 hours. Crap.

Clary: Forgotten Birthday You had been looking forward to this day. Not because it was your birthday but because you had managed to get all your friends and girlfriend off for the day. You, Alec, Jace, Izzy and Clary where all meant to be going to Taki's for dinner then meeting up with Magnus at his for drinks. He had said his flat would be better than a bar and you could easily believe that. When you and Clary had woke up she said she was meeting Simon for coffee at Java Jones. Kind of strange but hey, maybe she's planning something or forgot to get you a gift. It was probably the later but you didn't really mind about gifts. Izzy had said you were getting a 'birthday makeover' so now she was in your room, picking your clothes, styling your hair and doing your make-up(if you wear it). "Perfect (Y/N/N)" She grinned, "We'll be fighting Clary off you." You blushed heavily before sighing. "Where is she? I haven't seen her since she left to see Simon." You slumped on your shared bed. "Dunno. Well why don't you help me wrestle Alec into a jumper with no wholes." You nodded before texting Clary, to tell her to text you when she's back. You and Iz had made Alec look presentable. And then some (doing Magnus a favour). And you were now in the main part of the Institute waiting for Jace and Clary. Jace came rushing in a couple minutes later. "Hey guys, looking great. Sorry im late, I was training and the clock was broken." "Its fine, were still waiting on Clary." "Where is the little girl?" Alec asked, rolling his eyes. "Hey! She's my GF, you cant insult her! I'll go find her. She must be back by now." You were mostly saying the last part to your self. When you went into your and Clary's shared room you say her on the bed in t-shirt and jeans. "Your not ready yet?" All of you guys had dressed up slightly (not much though) and you thought she knew that. "For what?" She glanced up from her phone, "Why you so dressed up?" "No reason, not like I planned the day off for all of us and booked a table at Taki's.?" "What?" You just left the room and muttered 'so much for birthday boy/girl/person' When you got back to the gang you told them she had a sore stomach and was going to sit this one out. You saw her text's on the way saying she had asked Mayrse and was 'soooo sorry!!!' Alec saw your phone when you checked it at Taki's and took it from you. He turned it off and put it in his pocket. He then turned to you and said "This is your night. Its time you relaxed with friends."

Alec: You don't do Valentines day Alec had woken you up by pepering kisses over your face. You woke up with a grin and started to push him off which only made his grip increase. "Get off of me!" You laughed while he chuckled a "Never" after a couple of minutes you both stopped and stared at each other. "What's got you in such a lovey mood?" You questioned. "You'll see." Alec had to go on a mission with Jace so you invited Magnus over. You both were just sitting drinking wine (or whatever you like) and talking about random things. You were currently talking about how weird Valentines day was when Alec came in. "Hey Archer." "Hi (Y/N), Magnus. Why are you over?" "(Y/N) invited me," but sensing Alec wanted you alone he added "but I was just going to leave." He quickly finished his glass and left swiftly. "Hey," you said again. "I got you something" Alec said reaching for something in his back pack "I got Jace to keep it in the institute so you didn't find it." He handed you a fluffy white teddy holding a heart and a jewellery box. "Alec you shouldn't have," you sat them on the couch while mumbling a 'you really shouldn't have' "I didn't get you anything." You looked down sadly while he flinched. You felt bad but you didn't think you guys were doing it. And with that Alec stormed out.

Magnus: Interior Design You and Magnus had just moved in together and it wasn't going perfectly. You had moved into his flat and he had offered to redecorate. You had said yes, thinking it would be fun to help decide what your and your boyfriends house looked like but lets say that taste's sometimes don't mix. Magnus was a more......flamboyant person than you. It had started with the duvet on your bed. You wanted a plain (Y/F/C) set, with maybe some different colour pillow, while he wanted bright yellow covers, red and pink pillows and a glittery pink blanket. "Magnus I'm not sleeping in a rainbow's vomit!" "But its fashionable!" You had decided to leave that and come back too it. Then you were trying to decide on a theme for the kitchen. He wanted a black, pink and blue modern theme and you wanted a black and white vintage theme. "You cant be serious (Y/N)!?" "What's that suppose to mean?!" "Uhh" You both stormed out the kitchen to the living room. "Look the living room should be easier, right?" you asked looking hopeful. "Yeah, probably. Maybe a black, pink and gold 18th French century?" "Or a modern sleek one?" You said not really wanting your first proper fight to happen on your first night. He groaned and ran his hands through his glittery hair. "Why are you so boring?" That however set you off. "Im not boring! I just don't want to have people blinded by the furniture!" "Blinded by style" "Oh by the Angel, Magnus! You cant always have your way!" He was acting like a child. Every time it was his way or no way. "It's my flat! Why cant I have it how I want?" "Oh so I don't live here any more?! Its not like ive packed all my junk up and moved it here!" He looked slightly saddened by your outburst. "Thats not what I meant..." "Well maybe we shouldn't move in." You went to grab a box you had brought and headed to the door when he grabbed your arm. "Let go of me!" He snapped his finger and the box was now on the table. "Let. Me. Go" I seethed.

Isabelle: You don't like her clothes. Izzy had came by your house after a mission. She was wearing a tight, revealing red dress and thigh high boots. "Oh you didn't have to get dressed up for me," you said putting your arms around her waist "Oh well down that is." She smirked and hummed before telling you. "Don't flatter your self honey, I was on a mission." You unwrapped your arms from her and sat down. You let out a slight sigh. "I wish you weren't." "What? Going on missions? Its my job, don't worrying I can take care of myself." She was smiling as if you were just over protective. "I don't doubt that. Even though I do worry. Its just," You paused not knowing how to say it right, "I don't like you wearing they clothes on missions." "Why not?" her voice suddenly got higher. "Because I don't like it Ok?" You yelled slightly. "Fine, I know were im not wanted." She stormed to the door, "And for the record I can wear what I damn well please!" And with that she was gone. You ran your hands over your face and sighed before texting her she didn't understand. You also texted Alec and Jace. If they found out you hurt Izzy, they would kill you. Also they might know were your coming from. But for know, you wait.

How does a complete beginner being to learn code for making games? What do you look up, or read? What exactly is useful info to know, and what isn't? Im sorry if this is a bad, or weird question.

Not a bad or weird question at all.

First of all, I’d recommend learning the basics of coding before you go into coding for games. Most game programming tutorials are going to assume you know the basics (classes, functions, variables, loops, data structures, etc.), so you want to start out on a solid foundation.

Online resources are your best friend. Codeacademy.com is a great free site for learning the basics of code, but there are tons of educational sites out there to pick from. I learned by taking courses at my community college.

Once you’re comfortable with the basics, I’d recommend Unity as a good engine for learning how to code for games. It’s a powerful, free engine and there are tons of educational resources out there.

Google is your best friend. If you stumble into a problem, try googling it and chances are good you’ll find someone had a similar problem in the past. Stack Overflow is a great website for this.

When you’re learning, what language you pick or what engine you use isn’t really that important. It’s more important to understand the logic behind the code. If you understand that, picking up new programming languages or working in a new engine shouldn’t be too difficult. I started learning in C++, but I’ve picked up C#, Java, Javascript, HTML5, and CSS from my C++ experience. It’s mostly just semantics.

Coding isn’t easy. The best way to learn is by just doing it, so my advice is to start out simple. Stick to one thing at a time, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Don’t worry about failing and getting frustrated, because that’s part of the fun.

June 9th evening afternoon tweets

U know looking back, at the state party school that I transferred to, in 2010, what they taught was done poorly & the subjects were out of date. I’m sure they’ll beg to differ. While they and their involvement of a “situation” strives to keep me writing in the midst of studying-

- other schools were teaching agile software practices, cloud computing, data warehousing, or even with a simple Java programming class: how to run JUnit test cases.-

- for months I tried contacting a professor for an old assignment and notes related to handling Java programming with sql database coding, never gives me what I want. Basically always says he’s too busy-

- in the party school, while their sister state university of Binghamton was teaching Java with Eclipse, enterprise style repositories and JUnit test cases, party school was using a baby program called Dr. Java.-

- my transcript is proof of the courses you teach. The duration of the situation and the kids is proof of a distraction in my priorities. My 4.0 high school GPA is testament to my academic caliber. Me, I like using the luxury of time to learn a course until it’s mastered.-

- students would say professor ravis course was 1 of the important courses. Didn’t do so well the 1st time amidst obstacles. Wanted 2 take theCourseAgain. Ur partySchool’s conflictResolution VP insisted I take remaining courses @ a communityCollege so that Im out of their hair.-

-can you imagine this dip sh*ts advice? From a 4.0 gpa at Iona with scholarships and free laptops to a community college. The b*stars went out of his way to convince my parents I’m crazy after he had the faculty monitor me on the harassment on the day of my life 2012 finals.-

-Why won't even you not look into what's going and help me? Is it because of my Indian skin and do I remind you of the Middle Eastern Muslims that you're stereotyped to being against? Is it because I'm not a blonde white girl that you allow this to happen to me?-

- To fight for my citizenship's entitlement, you don't need to go to another country. Stop this illegal thing and the façade of the orchestrators from happening. -

I like Ignite.com (Actually this is a good one for start ups to share their stories. We can also have employees help out and figure out what needs new companies have. However, hopefully my story of what I have been through makes fools come correct and we dont have to have this shit everyday! but.....optimize work output and whats it matter if you can do 10-25 hrs but equivalent to 40-50.
