“Hmmm Buck, Buck?” Sophia teases, tapping her chin exaggerated like a goddamn cartoon, “Oh yes! Your best friend, the person my nephew, Abuela, and you can’t stop talking about?”

“Shut up,” He says, ducking his head and hoping the dark hides that he’s blushing furiously.

“And does he like you back?”

Eddie hesitates, thinking back over the last few months, all the moments that left him wondering if just maybe his feelings are returned, he sighs, “I don’t know.”

Eddie has a no good, very bad day and the only thing that makes him feel better is talking to his bestest friend Buck.

A Timeline of Dick Grayson's Unrelenting Trauma Era (circa 2004-2006 in comics)

So as I was coincidentally reading the Outsiders (2003) and Teen Titans (2003) runs, I became gradually aware that some of the events were overlapping timeline with the Batfamily "War Games" arc. As I had previously become aware that "War Games" overlapped both the Blockbuster + Tarantula arc (Nightwing) AND Under the Red Hood, I became shocking aware of how many new traumas were rapidly piling onto Dick Grayson in very quick succession across multiple ongoing series.

So I did a lot of reading of both specific comics that I had read--and summaries of a few that I hadn't-- to do my best to make a definitive timeline of this absurdly stressful period in Dick Grayson's life. (Most of which seems to have occurred with around 6 months or less).

(I am no expert so feel free to add/clarify anything that I may have overlooked or misinterpreted).

I think about Trazyn's random pet librarian on Serenade a lot.

What was it like for him? To have his free will stolen by an entity he cannot understand? He just knows it is powerful and alien and evil. But he had no choice but to bear that secret because his body literally will not let him warn people there is a monster in the basement.

And then that monster, the thing his faith tells him is pure evil, actually takes care of him? Ensures his children are educated, he and his wife receive medical care when they need it? Nothing it asks if him is wrong, it's just...odd. Mundane. His life was taken from him all for the sake of some municipal records? But it is a good life, even if it isn't entirely his.

But how much freedom did he have under the Imperium, anyway? The Imperium would not have looked out for him, his family, or anything he cared about. Can he maintain his faith after a lifetime of that? Especially when he knows his death is coming and his god will damn him?

And then his final act in life is to pass all that on to someone else.
