As someone who sees AI (especially ChatGPT) being used a lot in her school/workplace, it can be extremely discouraging.
I was working on a small website for a project, when my friend showed me how Chatgpt had generated the entire thing, CSS and JavaScript and all, in a minute, it made me sit down and contemplate my existence for a while. If I took 2h to make the same product ChatGPT made in such little time, what even was the point of me doing all that for? What's the point of making my silly website when an AI can do it better and faster? Why bother creating?
And I thought about it for a while. Poked about on Chatgpt too. And you know what I realised?
No matter how much better an AI can do something, I'd still rather do it myself. Because it's mine.
That's what matters. That I made it, with my own brain and fingers. That I put the effort into it, and reaped the results. That I can truly call it my own.
So keep making. Whether it's writing or art or coding, just keep doing it. No matter how much better an AI can create, no matter how much faster, no matter how much more complex.

hey what if star wars: the acolyte (2024) had been good. can you imagine if that had been good. can you imagine if the next installment of star wars with that really good cast and those really good fight scenes had covered the beginning of their descent into corruption. if it had been about the central main character who starts out as a kind and well-meaning roguishly charming protagonist had turned to the dark side BECAUSE of the actions of JEDI and her "evil" ""twin"" had ended up as the GOOD one. can you imagine if a jedi who thought he was a good guy and ""meant well"" threw one little girl down a hole and kidnapped the other one. imagine if a gripping critique and/or deconstruction about the jedi practice of taking children and why is it they feel the need to lie about their own people doing bad things in the name of their beliefs. and then that guy with the big sad brown eyes got the protagonist to put on his scary helmet and then they were scared of it together and they touched hands like those lesbians in andor except it was hornier AND!!! it had been GOOD!!!!!! instead of written by FUCKING CHATGPT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once again struck, in regards to generative AI in creative fields, with the thought of "why are you wanting me to care about something you didn't care enough to make"

Asked ChatGBT to write me dndads fanfics. Some things were just not quite... accurate. Looked sus.
Of course I had to ask for the family trees. I'm crying.
Tumblr media
What I love the most is that even tho it's very obviously ridiculously wrong the third facts are still so fucking accurate somehow.
HENRY: focus on finding Lark. No mention of loving relationships and important for character developments. Very passive aggressive. Bet Lark wrote this himself.
RON: now that really just sounds like Willy. Willy is a Karen. That's just canon now. Can't convince me otherwise. Will forever refer to him as Karen now.
Also Sparrow is now forever branded in my mind as McLaughlinTM.
GLENN: His life without Nick and Morgan. Tragic. But still shows how Morgans death resulted in Glenn being an absent depressed all is well dad.
DARRYL: Well his relationship with Grant obviously very fucked up and the whole turning your son into a murder weapon does how devastating effect. BUT Darryl and Henry smooching definitely was not missed by chatgpt.

Me, almost falling asleep, definitely not wanting to talk at all, in my online class today: oh thank god it's remote today, I don't have to be presentable or say anything :)
Professor: okay breakout rooms!
Me: ........okay it's only for a couple of minutes, I can do that. Ah, nice, I can just zone out again...oh we're talking about the topic of our essay's from two weeks ago? Okay sure, I don't even remember what I wrote in it, I just kinda typed something lmao-
Professor: Ven you wrote about this, can you please comment?
Me: ...okay sure. Okay NOW that's done, I can just-
Professor: Oh yeah, Ven, you made a point about this, do you have more examples?
Me: *I did??? Oh christ what the fuck did I write and why was it so profound apparently??* Okay sure??? Okay NOW I'm DONE, I can-
Professor: Ven could you-
Me, almost crying: Ma'am I don't know what the fuck I was talking about-

Every time I see someone talk about using ChatGPT to finish unfinished fics, I imagine someone trying that with my LOST/Glee crossover that I never wrote the fourth part of, and I almost want to see what would happen with that, I'm not going to lie.

Mini rant but please tell me why I have just seen someone legitimately say it doesn’t matter if university students use ai to write their essays

Wow google is SO BAD now.
I just tried to google "ballad of songbirds and snakes movie release date" and google is trying to tell me it's March, 2012 (the date of the original hunger games, I presume") and then it gives me a bunch of trailers for all movies in the series, wiki pages about the books, and then, finally, a bunch of media articles about the trailer release, some of which have the date in the text if I go through it.
What happened to you google?

I apologize if you’ve been asked this question before I’m sure you have, but how do you feel about AI in writing? One of my teachers was “writing” stories using ChatGPT then was bragging about how good they were (they were not good) and said he was going to sell them. To put aside any legal concerns in that, I’m just trying to talk him down from that because, personally, I would not enjoy dream job being taken by AI.
The poor man.
Many magazines have closed their submission portals because people thought they could send in AI-written stories.
For years I would tell people who wanted to be writers that the only way to be a writer was to write your own stories because elves would not come in the night and do it for you.
With AI, drunk plagiaristic elves who cannot actually write and would not know an idea or a sentence if it bit their little elvish arses will actually turn up and write something unpublishable for you. This is not a good thing.
