Not breaking the kiss, Eddie shifts, throwing his leg over Buck’s lap, straddling him, and Buck’s hands immediately wrap around his hips, bringing him closer, as close as possible, just needing Eddie closer. Eddie gasps when their crotches collide, and breaks the kiss, Buck’s lips moving to Eddie’s neck.

“Buck.” Eddie whispers. “Buck, we- we should talk.” Eddie tries, but one of his hands is tangled in Buk’s hair, holding on tight. Buck stills his movements, looks up at Eddie and sees reluctance in his face. He’s not sure if it’s reluctance to stop or continue, and he needs to know for sure, would never want Eddie to feel pressured in any way. They have no alcohol to blame this time, after all.

“If you want to, let’s stop, and we can talk.” Buck says, voice a little shaky as he adds, “But we can always talk tomorrow?”, knowing this is a very bad decision, once again. He’s looking at Eddie’s face and sees something complicated, a conflict, a battle with himself. His eyes roam over Buck’s face, lingering on his eyes, then lips, then back to eyes. In the end, some part of Eddie wins, or loses, and he captures Buck’s lips with his own again.

hot take: I could see it being possible Will picks up smoking, and very unlikely Max picks up smoking, for the same reasons just opposite.

Joyce doesn't hide her smoking but she is conscientious not to smoke in Will's presence (she does smoke right next to Jonathan though). iirc she almost never smokes at home when Will is home, and puts it out before she goes in his room. I'm sure she would advise her boys against the habit, but I don't think it would be terribly ooc if they picked it up as a stress response learned from her. they both probably associate the smell with their mother, who is a positive and loving presence in their lives.

btw I have a crisp $1 bill that says pre-s1 Joyce has caught Jonathan smoking before and that's why she feels ok to do it around him

then you've got Max, with multiple varyingly abusive family members who smoked (and drank) in her presence all the time. she comes and puts out Susan's cigarette when she's asleep even though it's already safely in an ashtray, meaning Max just doesn't want to have to smell the rest of it. she resents her mom for blowing so much of their resources on her addictions. plus there's Billy who smoked (and drank) in front of her all the time, both in their house and in his car, and I don't have to tell you Billy is a negative presence in her life.

in my mind Will and Jon are, at a minimum, at peace with it whereas the smell could be almost triggering for Max

actually I think the thing about being a youth leader is that 25% of it is teaching about God, 25% is playing fun games, and more than that though 50% of it is making a safe space for kids to be. not to try and make them believe, not so they'll be open or anything. just. a 100% no stakes, safe place for them to just BE. whatever else comes after that. and I don't just mean physically safe, two-adults-in-the-room-at-all-times, et cetera. I mean emotionally safe. I mean not hitting them over the head with scripture, not trying to help them feel better or any particular way. just... a no-judgment, emotionally safe place to exist as kids.

i think having someone who can read the original novel in chinese on this blog would be beneficial; there are several inaccurate posts here due to huge blunders with the english translations!

thank you for the ask! this actually gives me an opportunity to bring up something i've been thinking about for a while, if you'll excuse me using your ask in this way lol. i've actually begun to lose interest in running this blog for a few reasons, which is why i haven't been very active. one of the things i've been thinking about is whether i'm even the best person to be running this blog, given my inability to double-check my work from the original chinese. i started this as a fun project on the side, but given how much bigger this blog has gotten, it's only more evident that my (lack of) cultural perspective is a major hindrance. as you mention, bringing on another mod would be really helpful, but i've also been considering handing the blog over to another person entirely.

the simpler solution would be for anybody who is interested to just make their own blog, whether it follows this format or not. i don't need to be (and probably shouldn't be) the only mdzs blog like this to exist. if anyone was interested in being a mod for my blog, this is another option available to you!

i'm still considering the best way forward for this blog since i don't want to leave any loose threads hanging, so i haven't made any concrete decisions. i may continue to make the occasional post in the next few months but due to a couple factors i've been much more distanced from it as a whole. we'll see how it goes, and i hope y'all understand! and if anyone wants to make their own mdzs fanon-vs-canon blog, please go ahead ;)

in the meantime, if you've noticed any egregious errors, please let me know so i can go back and correct myself! thank you all very much ^-^

Riptide is just ok, I prefer a lot of the other campaigns (as I figured I would when I started it.) and I've stalled out pretty hard on watching it. I'll get back to watching sometime soon, probably. But tbh I'm much more excited for Wonderlust and TMK!
