This portable Japanese tea set, complete with a carrying basket, cloth napkin, container to hold tea, whisk stirrer and two cups nested within one another, was probably used to prepare tea on picnic outings in the 1940s.
I forgot I brought a Japanese tea set a few years ago from a old Japanese couple at the mall not really sure what to do with it. Is it appropriation too have one?
No, it is not appropriation to own a Japanese tea set if you bought it from Japanese people. It is also not cultural appropriation for white people to own a dream catcher if they purchased it from an Ojibwe artist. If you made your own or bought one not made by an Ojibwe person, it would be.

An earthenware style exterior, reminiscent of a Zen garden gives this Traditional yokode kyusu style Japanese tea set an impressive image. Not only does this tea set brew incredible tea, but each piece is a great example of craftsmanship. The tea pot, a yokode kyusu style pot, has a handsome lining of gold on the top and wooden handle to make serving hot tea easier. The two cups, twins in their uniformity, have a matching earthenware exterior.
This is not a school lunch. I had to go to Kochi City with a friend for visa purposes. So we decided to stop for lunch at a nice cafe offering a set meal for lunch. The daily menu for this lunch changes. It was 880 yen for this meal.
It featured miso soup and white rice along with some side dishes (a leafy pickled salad, some sort of stem pickled with bonito flakes and then daikon thath ad been boiled with konyaku. There was fried shrimp with tartar sauce, chicken karaage and also steak! Finally some pickled daikon and cucumber.

yayoi やよい軒 japanese teishoku restaurant, mid valley.
this japanese restaurant is rather new in the mall, so we went to try the food for the first time last month. the eatery is rather popular, so lots of customers during meal hours.
the menu basically has lots of set meal options, which is what teishoku means. i ordered the saba shioyaki set, which comes with salad, pickles, tofu, white rice and miso soup, a standard teishoku.
the fish is really fresh, smells nice and does go well with the fluffy rice. other side dishes are pretty standard, so it was alright. the meal portion is filling and satisfying, just a very simple and balanced meal overall.
would be interested to try out their other sets such as unagi, salmon and chicken nanban which looks very attractive as well. the pricing is standard for a restaurant that is located in a mall, so it’s on the higher end. service by the staff is quite efficient and our food came quickly too.
