Another day, another amazing release. Frog's S/T release must have escaped a lot of people, because there are still 5 CDs left from the original pressing. Frog are a New York, New York band and this CD was originally issued on Monkfish Records and now is being handled by Frog's new label, Audio Antihero.
Listening to "Jesus Song" and "Rubbernecking" made me think of what Pavement might have sounded like if they were weirder. I mean this is definitely indie rock, but sometimes this has a country feel, and at other times it rocks hard but without a typical song structure to keep you knowing what's coming next.
This also recalls Chronophage, Danielson, Pere Ubu and maybe Meat Puppets. One more...the vocals remind me of Jason Cassidy's work in The Party and Viking Skate Country. You can kind of tell I'm all over the place. Listen to this.

(I'm working on character busts for my Courier's TH profile! [which is a big WIP btw pls ignore the mess] I wanted to wait to post them all in bulk but i also cant control myself, here's cass)
The Constantine & The Demon: Vacation from Hell full backup in Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow (2023) #4, a preview of one of the would-be series pitched during the 2022 Round Robin.
Jason Cassidy has been in various bands for the past 35 years. Nearly all of those have been based in Chico, California. He's been a stalwart community member through his work as arts editor "Art Devo" at Chico News and Review. Now, he the editor. To say he is a leader of the community would frankly be an understatement.
So, it's no surprise that he pulled off The Party. Jason gets an idea and makes it happen. He wanted a community live music project. So he wrote the music, arranged for the musicians and played The Party in its entirety at a Chico theater. He recently pulled off something similar with his song (performed by his regular band, Viking Skate Country) "Light the Beam" - and ode to his beloved Sacramento Kings.
The music on The Party can be sparse and beautiful. It really reminds me of The Flaming Lips (listen to "Gonna Be" and imagine Wayne Coyne singing). At other times this has the feel of Monroe Mustang, Royal City or even Grandaddy. But make no mistake, this is pure Jason Cassidy.
And there are great explosions of pure noise. This is a self-released CD. And, it appears there are plans for another Party in the works.
Seeing as it's Pride Month, and Based on the Sexuality list that https://www.tumblr.com/phantomss-pain/tagged/phantom%20ask%20box once did, I've decided to make my own for the Characters in my AU, Fazbear Terrors, You can see the Cast Videos here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_Mx_L65HF0&list=PLGY40u4pTmhnI_5sJWGLfCQtmSpVIMmVt

Conner absolutely has a binder filled with ideas and locations for Kira and Trent’s wedding, Tommy and Jason’s wedding, and Cassidy and Ethan’s. And for some reason Dustin and Hunter’s.
Kira simply wants to know when and where Conner got the time to do all of that.
Conner’s response? “I want my friends to have a good wedding! That’s all!”
With Stanley Jordan Co-piloting, Phil Lesh & Friends Find the Promise of Darkstarathon
Everyone except Grahame Lesh was seated when Darkstarathon episode 7 began its journey across the cosmos.
And of course drummer John Molo, keyboardist Jason Crosby and pedal-steel guitarist Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz were. And being 84, Phil Lesh can do whatever the fuck he wants.
Which brings us to Stanley Jordan, whose unconventional playing style lent a bit of jazz to the proceedings as Lebowitz, Crosby, Molo and Lesh the elder kept things misty and primordial while Lesh the younger occasionally quoted the titular song.
Before long, even he was seated on his amp as this Darkstarathon lived up to the series’ initial promise of a never-ending “Darkstar.” Episode No. 7 is 27 minutes of instrumental music in which the spirit of adventurism ruled and in-the-moment composition and improv was all that mattered.
A hint of “West L.A. Fadeaway” bubbled to the surface around the 13-minute mark before elements of “Slipknot!” emerged over Molo’s marching fills.
As this dissolved, Lebowitz switched to acoustic and the band gurgled back down to formlessness as young Lesh strummed major chords and the sextet remained on the fly.
“Cassidy?”
No.
“Scarlet Begonias?”
No.
“I Know You Rider?”
Yes. But wordless with the guitarists lightly tracing the vocal lines.
Minute 23: “Darkstar” re-re-emerges; Grahame Lesh, Lebowitz and Jordan “singing” with their respective six-strings.
