A violent man in a dress was recorded insulting and encouraging violence towards women but didn't like it whapen his crap was recorded. Because how can Trans Laydees claim to be the victim when his hatefullness towards women was recorded?
By Genevieve Gluck October 13, 2023
A women’s rights activist was kicked out of a bar in Glasgow last night, reportedly because she “looked like a TERF.” Jenny Watson says she was surrounded by trans activists and forced out of the bar after silently recording a drag queen insulting Harry Potter creator JK Rowling and other women who are critical of gender ideology.
Following the incident, Watson took to her X account to explain that she had been sitting silently and recording a drag performer at the Polo Lounge in Glasgow as he made derogatory remarks about women he classified as “TERFs.” While the acronym means “trans-exclusionary radical feminists,” it has been applied more broadly to any woman critical of gender ideology, and is often used alongside threats of violence.
“For the first time in my life, I have just got chucked out of a gay bar,” Watson said in a series of videos she shared. “There was a drag act… I took a video of him saying that there’s going to be ‘a thousand TERFs’ in Glasgow tomorrow… we hate the TERFs.'”
Watson described how she was swiftly challenged by the crowd when she began filming the drag performer as he made statements against “the TERFs.”
“Everybody surrounded me, and they were [saying], ‘You look like a TERF, you shouldn’t be here. This isn’t the right place for you.’ I was literally just there, sitting with my drink. I was not being rude, doing anything… and they were telling me, ‘You look like a fucking loser.’ Then the bouncers came over.”
Tumblr media
In another video clip of the incident Watson shared on X, drag and burlesque performer Tom Harlow can be seen standing on stage naming women’s rights campaigners such as JK Rowling, Julie Bindel, and Member of Parliament Joanna Cherry, all of whom have vocally opposed sex self-identification policies which allow men to be legally designated as “female” without restrictions.
“Joanna Cherry, Julie Bindel, and JK Rowling are all meant to be speaking this weekend,” Harlow says, while audience members react with disgust. Harlow then informs the crowd that Glasgow Trans Rally had organized a counter-protest outside of the venue scheduled for the following day. He adds that he intends to attend the demonstration to “sing show tunes at bigots,” and says, “We fucking hate you, Joanna,” while miming a punch with a clenched fist
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Harlow’s statement was a reference to the women’s rights conference known as FiLiA, a two-day event being held over the weekend. FiLiA was launched in 2013 with the purpose of “strengthening the Women’s Liberation Movement” and upholding women’s sex-based rights, including the right to female-only spaces and protection from male violence.
Trans activists had attempted to have the conference shut down in the days leading up to the event. Glasgow Trans Rally encouraged their supporters to target the venue and harass event organizers on social media. Two days before the conference, the venue’s management attempted to cancel FiLiA’s reservation, but backed down after being told they should expect a legal challenge if they followed through.
Watson continued to explain that one of the bouncers who had her removed from Polo Lounge informed her that the staff were taking “extra precautions” due to the FiLiA conference.
“I had no idea who this drag artist was,” she says, incredulous. “Then I got a few messages from people saying, ‘The person you’re recording is unhinged.'”
Watson continued in a statement: “The Polo Glasgow is unsafe for lesbians. If you are a lesbian do not go there, especially alone, you will be put at risk. You will be told that ‘you look like a pathetic loser for going alone.’ You will be surrounded by a mob and then the bouncers will kick you out, simply for having a drink and recording (as one does) part of a drag act.”
Watson explains that she had been approached by groups of people who “recognized” her from social media, and were clearly looking for a hostile exchange.
“I engaged civilly with them, yet still I was the one who was kicked out. I repeat – this establishment is dangerous for lesbians. This is new homophobia and lesbians are at the bottom of the hierarchy.”
Tumblr media
Watson has been the target of abuse in the past due to her experience speaking out for the rights of lesbian women to hold single-sex events. Earlier this year, she came under fire after voicing frustration with the trans-identified males claiming to be lesbians who were attending weekly lesbian speed dating evenings she organized in London.
Watson described to journalist Julie Bindel how one trans-identified man pushed himself against a lesbian in the restroom.
Another was seen sporting a visible erection while wearing purple spandex. Several trans activists created a WhatsApp group in order to coordinate their attempts to have her lesbian-only events shut down by urging participants to complain to venue staff. She has also been reported to her London council employers as “transphobic” for insisting that “lesbians don’t have penises.”
Tumblr media
As he stated he would, Harlow turned up outside of the FiLiA conference with a small crowd of protesters, where he has been recorded shouting “fuck you” at the women in attendance.
In a brief biography of Harlow provided to Miss Burlesque Scotland, a competition for which he has performed and competed, Harlow is described as “an international and award-winning showboy” known for his “classic stripteases with a male twist, bump & grind as well as his unique vocal blend of showtunes & FILTH!”
Harlow previously drew criticism in July after Glasgow museum The Burrell Collection hosted an all-ages LGBT event where Harlow performed. The museum hit back at critics by stating, “The Burrell Collection is an inclusive, welcoming museum and the Pride event celebrates this. Tom Harlow is performing classic cabaret and giving insight into the art of performance make-up in a set for all ages.”
Harlow’s website features photos and purchasable prints of himself naked. As previously reported by Reduxx, Harlow has performed as a merman in an adult strip show called “The Salty Seaman”. He would later adapt the character to be aimed at children.
Last fall, a cabaret performance by Harlow intended for children under 12 was cancelled following public outcry.

Jenny Watson: "We can do it, so let's do it." Jenny outlines her plan for a female-only, lesbian space.
For my lesbian, bisexual women, and radfem Followers. Via Graham Linehan's Substack.
Tumblr media
For many decades, London was considered the global capital for lesbian nightlife. But you’d never know it if you visited the UK today. It’s not for a lack of British lesbian culture: I’m a lesbian, I’m involved in our country’s lesbian social scene, and I can assure you, it’s alive and well. What we lack at the moment are our own dedicated spaces. I think the UK needs once more to have lesbian-run, female-only community spaces.
I’ve got an idea about how to make one such space a reality. And I believe I'm in a position to make it happen.
Over the past seven years, I've had the privilege of organising a range of lesbian social events in London. Throughout this time, I've made many connections in our community, gained an increasing understanding of our needs, and created social spaces that I hope go some way to meeting them.
And in those seven years working to coordinate part of the the UK’s lesbian social scene, I’ve come to see how badly we need a dedicated, strictly female-only event space — now more than ever.
Men have been encroaching on the lesbian community, and the problem is only getting worse. There’s been a sense of inevitability, that this is just something we have to learn to live with.
But I’ve had it.
In June, I skipped London’s official Pride festivities and instead visited an alternative, independent event at the Hampstead Ponds. It was a female-only picnic. Hundreds of women of all ages were gathered, from their teens to their eighties. And the sublime joy that I felt that day led me to a eureka moment:
We need this. We deserve this. This is our right. As lesbians and bisexual women, we have a right to social spaces that are entirely our own.
So, earlier this year, I decided to implement a women-only policy at my events. Although this sparked controversy, we ultimately received recognition from the UK’s largest pub operator that it is legitimate to hold women-only lesbian events - a real victory!
And then it suddenly dawned on me: we need more and not only do we need this, I can do this. I feel I have a good sense of the UK market for lesbian social events. So I crunched some numbers and developed a business proposal. I gauged interest and studied feasibility. And I’m excited to tell you: I believe this can work.
My plan involves establishing a private members’ club and securing a prime physical space in London. By day, this space will operate as a versatile hybrid workspace, becoming a venue hosting various social events in the evenings and weekends. Alongside these, we'll provide online events, and collaborate with service providers for health and wellness advice, fitness guidance, group trips, and more. Revenue will come from the events, partnerships, as well as from membership dues.
To the lesbian and bisexual women reading this: you’re welcome to get in touch with me if you’d like to learn more. There's an opportunity to invest if you’re interested, too. I’ve got a pitch deck I would be happy to show you and a fully fleshed-out, 50-page business plan. And I’m happy to report that there are already investors who have given the thumbs up.
Following my announcement and inspired by the community's heartwarming response, I decided to introduce an early-bird membership programme. This includes a personalised QR-coded membership card for exclusive updates and access to a members’ discussion space. Joining early also signifies your part in accelerating our community's launch.
Which brings me to another issue, and it’s a big part of the reason I’m writing this now: online critics. There’s a small but vocal group of people online who’ve been saying some pretty nasty and completely unfounded things about me. This group of people have taken to personal insults, and accusations that I’m a fraudster and a grifter.
I’m not entirely surprised to encounter pushback, but at the same time, the level of vitriol has been eye-opening.
But I try to put it in a bigger context: Lesbians have faced so much abuse, and for so long we’ve had to settle for having social spaces conditionally, on terms set by men. There’s a climate of distrust and fear looming over the lesbian community as a result. So much so that today the idea of even having one single space fully dedicated to lesbian and bisexual women seems so radical, some people’s initial reaction is that there’s got to be a catch.
I completely understand that a good dose of scrutiny, of tempering optimism with some degree of caution, is reasonable. It’s healthy. And it’s entirely welcome.
But personal insults and unfounded accusations are not. I know that emotions are running high, and we as a community are feeling beleaguered right now. But that’s no excuse to target my Irishness in personal attacks, for example. Or to target my business supporters with lies about me.
I'm not here to push or persuade anyone who doesn't feel the spark for this project. However, for those who do, our project investors' safety and security are crucial — capital funds are securely placed in escrow and I've teamed up with a business consultant who's right here supporting us until opening day. We’ve put together a solid business plan.
If anything, the tenor of some of the criticism I’ve faced only hardens my resolve: it just highlights how badly women need a space to unite us, to heal us in this difficult time.
It’s been upsetting to endure the smear campaign that a small online group has thrown at me… but my mind keeps going back to that Edenic afternoon at the Hampstead Ponds, where hundreds of women were gathered in serenity and harmony.
This will heal us. This will unite us. And it will make us all stronger. Lesbian strength comes through unity.
There are various ways you can help, but the most crucial one is spreading the word - our message is the most important part of this project.
Other than that, as I mentioned earlier, if you are a lesbian/bi woman, there is the option to join as an early-bird member (however, this is not compulsory; you can wait until our opening). Additionally, there's the opportunity for investment or donation. I've prepared a comprehensive 50-page business plan and pitch deck available for those who are interested.
For a deeper understanding of the project, feel free to visit our website or you can email me at [email protected]
Any form of support you can offer is immensely appreciated as we work towards making this a reality.
We can do this. So let’s do it!

Why John Watson Gave Up Dating
John was on his first date since… oof. Before the war. If she actually showed up. Last time he had tried to do this, it didn’t turn out so well. Mary had been delayed on the train, saved a man’s life. Big day for her, really. And John met Sherlock. Big day for him as well.
But today, he was not waiting on Mary. No, they had texted briefly after their failed first meeting attempt, promising to set up a time in the future, but then never did. Today he was meeting Jennie. He had met her at this exact coffee shop a week ago. And then they bumped into each other again the next day. And 2 days after that. That was when John decided to make an actual planned date out of it.
“Johnny! Hi!” Jennie greeted him, walking up to the table. John let the nick name slide. He stood and returned her greeting with a hug before they sat back down. “Sorry I’m late,” she said, pulling her chair in.
PING
“Ah, sorry about that.” John pulled his phone from his pocket. He saw it was a message from Sherlock, but didn’t read it. He set the phone to vibrate and set it upside down on the table. “And yeah, no worries! I’m actually just early, so… no problemo!” Jesus, John, he thought to himself. Try to act normal for once in your life!
Jennie giggled at him. “I’m really glad we are doing this. I’ve been looking forward to it.”
zzzzz
John ignored it. He gave her a bright smile. “Yeah, me too. Haven’t even had my first coffee yet. Decided to enjoy it with you.”
zzzzz
“Should we order then?” Jennie asked.
zzzzz
John spared a glance down at his phone but ignored it. “How about you tell me what you want, and I’ll go get it for us. Yeah?”
“Oh, I would love a lavender latte. And maybe a croissant?”
zzzzz
John stood. “Coming right up.” He grabbed his phone and went up to the counter to order. He felt the zzzzz in his back pocket. John knew he shouldn’t do it. He should absolutely not read the text. Sherlock knew John was out on a “personal errand”, so of course he would be trying to message him now. Just like with Ratthew. Just like with the snapping. John would see an urgent message, drop everything, and run to Sherlock for nothing.
zzzzz
But what if Sherlock actually was in trouble? He was trying desperately to get in touch with John. At least he assumed they were all from Sherlock. He knew the first one was, but he never actually looked to see if they all were. Maybe it was also Mariana. Maybe it was the hospital. Maybe even the police. Oh god, what if something was terribly wrong?! He knew he shouldn’t, but he couldn’t help himself. He grabbed his phone and read the texts.
He sighed. They were all from Sherlock.
Johnny and Jennie? What are you an 80s rock ballad?
Oh god. It was even worse than John imagined. Sherlock was here. That was the only way he would have heard Jennie call him Johnny. He read the rest of the messages.
Are you on a date WITH A FAN?!
She has one of your ‘Jonk’ pins on the inside of her jean jacket
Right over her heart
She’s going to murder you
I think she has been stalking this cafe looking for you
Stop ignoring me
John looked around the coffee shop, but didn’t see Sherlock at all. He sent his own text.
I think you might be the stalker. Where are you?
John got an immediate reply, but it wasn’t helpful.
Around
Their order was brought to the counter. John said his thanks and pocketed his phone. He couldn’t help looking about as he walked back to the table. “Everything alright?” Jennie asked, as he placed their drinks and pastries in front of her.
“Yeah,” he said, pulling his chair up. “Just… thought I saw someone.” He put his phone back on the table face up.
“Someone interesting?”
John smiled at her. “You are the only interesting one I see.” Jennie giggled and tipped her head down as if shy.
zzzzz
John looked down at the phone, Sherlock’s message said Gag me… John sighed again. Apparently Sherlock was going to live react his entire date. He flipped the phone over. They attempted to have a good conservation. Most of it was small talk. What do you do, where are you from, any siblings or childhood traumas you would like to share…
John’s phone kept buzzing. Again and again and again. 9 times, actually. It was on the 10th time that Jennie said, “Do you think you should check that?”
“I am so sorry. This is so rude of me. Let me take care of this real quick.” John opened his messages.
I have observed something 'interesting’ about your date
It is not going to last
Archie is a deal breaker
And one other thing…
She is married
DOCTOR
JOHN
HAMISH
WATSON
Once of the British Army Northumberland Fusilier Regiment, now a true crime podcaster, and homewrecker
John looked up from his phone. His eyes jumped to her left hand (bare) before looking her in the eye. “Are you, umm…married?” Jennie’s face turned crimson and she looked at her own hand before hiding it under the table. “Right. Separated? Getting a divorce? Maybe?” Jennie closed her eyes and hung her head. She gave it a small shake. “Okay, I think-.”
Something barreling at him from the corner of his eye caught John’s attention. Archie jumped up, his front two legs on John’s lap. Jennie jumped up from her chair, almost knocking it to the floor. Before he could acknowledge his own dog, Sherlock sauntered up, wearing comically large aviator sunglasses. “Oh. My. God!” Sherlock exclaimed. His voice was higher pitched and sounded American. “I am sooooo sorry! His chonky little self just took off and pulled the leash right from my hands!” John narrowed his eyes at the word 'chonky’. “Phew! Do you mind if I sit for just a quick sec? Running after him as got me all winded!” Sherlock pulled an empty chair for the next table over and swung it around, gracefully sitting down. Sherlock leaned his elbows on the table and looked over at Jennie. Her eyes were wide and she was staring at Archie. Sherlock lowered his glasses just enough to peer over the top of them at her. “Problem, sweetie?”
Jennie shook her head, being pulled from her shock. She looked at John, who had his brows furrowed at her behavior. “I’m gonna… yeah.” She took off like a shot.
John turned his attention to Sherlock. He didn’t say anything. Just waited. “She’s afraid-,” Sherlock stopped and cleared his throat. He had still been doing the voice. When he spoke again, it was his normal one. “She’s afraid of dogs. You’re welcome.”
“Afraid of… how did you know that?”
Sherlock leaned back in the chair. “There were 2 dogs that have walked by. Three including Archie. She watched each one with a careful eye. Didn’t you notice?”
“No, I did not.” Sherlock hummed dismissively, looking about. “How did you know she was married?”
Sherlock turned his attention to John and just looked at him. John could see his own ridiculous self being reflected back in the mirror lenses. “Do you not even do the minimum of Googling your date’s name? Honestly, Watson. It’s your murder I will have to investigate someday.”
John leaned back in his chair, took a deep breath in, and let it out forcefully. He crossed his arms over his chest. “I supposed I owe you a thank you. That could have turned out very embarrassing. Glad you are on my side.”
“You’re not going to ask me to observe all of your dates now, are you?” Sherlock asked.
“Oh, I don’t think I will need to ask. I think you will just be there. Whether invited or not.”
“You are my business partner, Watson. I’m protecting my investment.”
John chuckled. “That’s it, is it? Making sure I don’t marry off and disappear?”
“I can’t have strange women traipsing in and out of our flat. Our place of business. It sends the wrong message.”
“Strange women…? Same condom in my wallet since 2019, remember? Don’t think that is going to be a problem, mate.”
“Have you replaced it?”
“What, the condom?” Sherlock nodded. “No. Not yet.”
“Bit irresponsible of you, don’t you think?”
“Again I say, don’t think it’s going to be a problem.”
“Maybe we should have you neutered.”
“You’re the best birth control a man can get.” They sat in a comfortable silence, John sipping his latte, Sherlock picking at John’s untouched almond croissant. “What if I married Mariana?”
“No. You would eventually get divorced and destroy the business. I’d have to choose sides.” Sherlock looked up at him. “And you don’t want that.”
John narrowed his eyes. “Are you saying you would pick Mariana over me?”
“You are shit at bookkeeping.”

9 people you want to get to know better
Thanks to @bakedbakermom 😊
Currently reading: Oh God, like mostly a bunch of boring academic articles that will hopefully have some relevance to my PhD. Beside my bed waiting to be read/finished is "The Female Quixote" (Charlotte Lennox), "Sanditon/The Watsons" (Jane Austen), and "Mother Tongue: The Surprising History of Women's Words." (Jenni Nuttall)
Last song: Oo, oldie but a goodie: "Vox" (Sarah MacLachlan), the in-concert version of course!
Currently watching: Just finished "Yellowjackets" and "Good Omens 2". Not sure what to watch next ("The Gilded Age"?) so amusing myself with pimple-popping videos on youtube and rewatching "The X Files" for the 348th time.
Current fic: I'm retired from ff writing (but I've got 250+ stories that can be read here). I've enjoyed hunting down classic fics I used to love from the original run of TXF (which I have recced as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations). In fact, sometimes I forget that there are newer fics to experience. Luckily, @audiofanficpod keeps me up to date. I like anything by @phillippadgettwrites and @sarie-fairy
Next on my watchlist: OH! Been waiting for the next season of "Our Flag Means Death" (a show I watched cos tumblr was going mad for it and tumblr was SO right!)
Current obsession:

five scenes from the harry potter books that altered my brain chemistry (re this ask)
Tumblr media
SCREAM.... HERMIONE GRANGER YOU WILL LITERALLY ALWAYS BE FAMOUS!!!!
[power gap] [power gap] [power gap]
Hermione punching Draco in Book 3. Not the moment in particular, which is beautiful and well-earned, but specifically the fact that he doesn't say shit to her for the rest of the series. Hilarious. Incredible. He goes from mocking her every chance he gets to just like, occasionally snickering when something happens to her, or going after Harry or Ron (while ignoring Hermione altogether). And what's more, he doesn't retaliate. Draco "my father will hear about this" Malfoy doesn't tell anyone that he got smacked (and we know he's not too proud for it; he whines forever about Buckbeak). But nope, not Hermione. He's literally just like "holy fuck, never mind, point taken." You ever punch someone so hard they spontaneously manifest the ability to mind their own goddamn business?
Draco's bathroom scene in Book 6 — it's a humanizing moment for someone on the other side of the conflict, and it hammers home how young he is, how young they both are, despite the fact that they're becoming principal players in the war. It also shows how he's trapped by his family, which is a choice that he's made, but also something that he can't easily throw off —this is the scene that spawned a million "the boy who had no choice" edits, which I disagree with from a factual point of view, but I appreciate the elegance of it as a thematic counterpoint to Harry (who is, you know, if anybody, actually the boy who had no choice).
Hermione's Yule Ball Cinderella moment, which is so beautifully done and treats my girl so well, but also specifically the fact that Draco Malfoy canonically thinks she's beautiful. It's a great moment for the whole fandom, really, because if you like Draco then it's cute, and if you hate him then it's funny/ironic/well-deserved bit of comeuppance. Everybody wins!
When Sirius is talking to Harry in Book 5, and he's disappointed that Harry won't let him sneak out to Hogsmeade, he gets really catty and cruel: "You're less like your father than I thought. The risk's what would have made it fun, for James." Like, wow! What a fucking horrible thing to say to an orphan who's trying to save your life, jackass! But also: how fascinating, and what a great insight into Sirius's character, and also what a great read on how Harry and James are different people — added to the layer of complexity that we don't know if that's even true, because Sirius is in a snit right now, and lashing out, so we don't actually know if James would endorse this — if it risked his best friend's life, or his son's, he probably wouldn't! Or — or or or — the more likely possibility that fifteen year-old James would've jumped for this, but twenty-year-old James wouldn't have, suggesting that Sirius is conflating Harry with the younger James in order to try to relive his glory days as a Marauder, likely as a trauma response — I could talk about that moment forever, but TLDR, it's the key to Sirius's whole character, in my opinion.
bonus: "there is no need to call me sir, professor" (certified classic, a legend for a reason, no notes).
five scenes from the movies that altered your brain chemistry:
"She only likes you because you're the chosen one!" "I am the chosen one 😏" [WHACK]. they're siblings your honor
The moment they're all gathered to console Ron after he asks out Fleur to the Yule Ball, and Hermione's like oh she said no, and Ron shakes his head, and she goes: "...She said YES???" 🤭 and it's just such a babygirl moment. Emma Watson gives Hermione a very expressive face — it is, admittedly, what Jenny Nicholson might call an "eyebrow heavy" performance — but it's just delightful in scenes like this, where it's clear she absolutely cannot hide her feelings to save her life.
Not really a scene, but all of Draco's fun little outfits. Motherfucker will NOT wear his school uniform and I love it. We have the Iconique black suit from book 6, the turtlenecks, the cable jumpers, the disheveled-shirtsleeves look from the bathroom scene (whore), and especially the big dumb fur hat he wears outside (hideous. fashion icon).
McGonagall telling Neville to get Seamus to blow up the bridge to Hogwarts ("boom?" "boom!" what the fuck. she's so cute); followed by Seamus's immediate, absolutely doubtless "I can bring it down!!" like the total confidence he has... it's just a really adorable moment between a teacher and her students who clearly all love each other a lot. it's about community! they're books about community I could go on for HOURS—
Much darker moment, but Amos Diggory's reaction to Cedric's death. The actor sells that shit so well it scarred me as a kid— that ragged, unhinged, scream of grief he does when he sees Cedric's body, the way he cradles it to his chest, those heartbreaking two little words: "My boy..." Oh, my God. It goes so far beyond the emotional level that the books operate on, because it's live action, and the actor understands that this realism is crucial to you believing what's about to happen. You are watching a parent mourn the death of his only child, and it's CRUCIAL, because it's the turning point of the whole series. The death of an innocent child is the point at which Harry Potter becomes a series about war, and Amos Diggory is the first one to know it.

sorry this is so long — i let my inbox back up a little but also some of these are so thoughtful and i hate not responding thoughtfully!
remember to block the tag 'long post' if you hate seeing long posts :')
Tumblr media
first of all aww anon thank you so much and second of all you don't watch taskmaster? how can you stand following my blog if you don't? hahahahah especially during taskmaster season i feel so bad the blog ends up being like 70% tm even though if i could have it may way i'd never gif new content and just gif totally random old content like always hehehehehe but it's cute to me how many hog fans are in my inbox these days! i'll try and gif it more for you guys :)
and you should watch taskmaster!!! and come back and tell me what you think!! start with s1!!! it's on the masterpost linked in my bio!
Tumblr media
idk anon you'd have to ask them that but generally they would consider themselves to be irish-american; i wasn't trying to make a statement about that when i said that i think new yorkers understand a person like ed, though i think it's far to say that even diasporic communities will retain (at least) a handful of characteristics and nuances from their homelands
Tumblr media
yesssss we all love ed! i think a lot of us know him from mock the week and his bffship with dara (i have some of their travel buddy series on my non-panel show masterpost!), but of course he's also an accomplished standup!
actually, just last month in an exclusive with metro he said this:
It seems remarkable Ed hasn’t appeared yet in its 16 seasons. ‘They haven’t asked. If they had, I would,’ Ed said, with a dash of longing. ‘There’s really only one slot per series of someone answering my description,’ he mused. ‘We’re kind of the most overprescribed demographic in the industry. There’s no shortage of people who look and sound like me that are ahead of me in the queue for that slot.’ Even so, it would have been nice… Greg? Are you listening?
(ps. that article claiming 8 out of 10 cats is cancelled... 👀 don't get me wrong, i know it's been a couple years since it's been on, but afaik no cancellation was ever announced 👀)
i know a lot of people are very hung up on the fact david mitchell said he wouldn't do taskmaster — and i'm a sure there are a handful of others who either wouldn't or couldn't when they were asked (jack dee had a scheduling conflict back in the day, right? and alex still desperately wants him?) — but one thing that has been consistently reinforced for years, and especially since taskmaster moved to channel 4, is it is far and away the biggest, most in-demand opportunity amongst comedians and light entertainers (— on network television; of course, if you're standup, your own standup special on channel 4, netflix, whatever has gotta be number one, but i disgress). taskmaster is huge: everyone talks about how comedians play 100-seat rooms, go on taskmaster, and then BOOM sell out massive tours. the show can really change your life, so there is hardly a comedian who wouldn't go on if given the chance — especially someone like ed, who i had mentioned a couple months ago being of the jenny eclair variety (an opportunist; professional jealousy ain't no stranger). i know he's waiting for that damn phone to ring!
and i think he makes an incredible point that not many series are gunning for more than one straight white middle-aged man (though it's happened before, of course). actually, i was just thinking about how that role — the white, middle-aged, experienced senior comedian — is chosen; in almost every single case, it's a very famous comedian who will draw viewers and reinforce legitimacy (frank skinner, al murray, hugh dennis, bob mortimer, rhod gilbert, david baddiel, richard herring, lee mack, alan davies, dara, you get the point) or it's a comedian who alex, whether he's friends with them or not, really really likes (tim key, dave gorman, mark watson, tim vine, mike wozniak, i know they're well-known but even ardal o'hanlon and julian clary who alex personally loves). does ed fall into either of those categories? super famous ratings draw or one of alex's friends/comedy heroes? frankly...i'm not sure...and i think that may be what's keeping him mid-way down the list...
still, very cute of the journalist from this article to be gunning so hard for him to be on the show! i have to admit, i know it might seem like i'm biased because i like him, but i really really think he would be really really good on the show. imo — and it's just imo, people will disagree — the most important aspect of the best series of taskmaster is the banter. it's people who speak up, who fight, who tease, who want to win, who want laughs, who play off the audience, who make quick friends, who talk to greg, who talk to alex. ed TALKS. ed wants screen time. ed wants to fuck around. ed wants to win. so i think he would really take advantage of the format and i'd love to see it!
Tumblr media
you are allowed to say i told you so! it was amazing! thanks for reading my bullshit, i tried to take it really seriously so i could just link to it any time someone asks me if i've seen it hahahah who was your fave contestant?
Tumblr media
i could write a really long response to this because it's something i have — or could find lmfao — a lot to say about, but knowing this post is already gonna be long (hahah i hate myself) lemme try to boil my brain down
1) i covered my personal opinion of what makes the strongest series of taskmaster in my (very long) recent taskmaster nz s2 post; 2) recency bias — it's in the name! people are biased because it's recent [shrug]; 3) A LOT of people have not seen every series of taskmaster (gasp! i know...) so they won't have the full taskmaster uk canon in mind when they're making such claims; 4) there is a strong divergence between the comedy nerds who watch taskmaster for comedy and the light entertainment viewers who watch taskmaster for general pleasantness, and you gotta consider who you're talking to when you're listening to someone's opinion; 5) i think there's a very long convo you could have about the reticence of a huge faction of taskmaster fans to criticise the show/tasks/contestants/alex — which is why a lot of people like it and its community, because it's often an echo chamber of positivity — but maybe we won't have that convo now haha
^ me being concise!! wow never thought we'd see that day
Tumblr media
yes totally anon! i'll make massive gifsets of all of them when the season ends, if that works? :)
Tumblr media
wow interesting question! i know a few people who watch taskmaster on and off, and i definitely know people like you who enjoy the odd clip (why is it always bob mortimer on wilty lmfaooo), but otherwise i wouldn't say i spend too much time convincing people to watch stuff. wilty and taskmaster are pretty accessible, but a lot of panel shows are about the uk news, uk current events, have uk c-list celeb guests, etc, and i don't think people would be interested. plus, i have you guys!!! (i don't really have internet friends besides posting here and interacting with you guys :'))
not that long ago, i was at a dinner party and someone said, "have you seen that show taskmaster?" and ... do you know what it's like for me!!! ... i had to take a deep breath and say inside my head 'sarah be cool' and i finally went, "i have! fun show haha" and not start TWITCHING ... they were telling the people around us a little bit about it and getting some of the details wrong and i just sat there nodding like :) and didn't correct them bc being a know-it-all isn't cool and i didn't want to risk it 💀
it's too bad we don't have more of a light entertainment culture here, especially a comedian-driven one :(
(so random but speaking of light entertainment has anyone else been seeing michael barrymore all over tiktok? those kids say the funniest things clips are my wholeeeee fyp)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hahaha yesss we do know suzi around here!! though she's not been on many panel shows recently-ish so i probably haven't posted her in a while. if your fave taskmaster contestants are wide-eyed, smiley people who radiate optimism and go-get-em attitudes then suzi would definitely be the one!
Tumblr media
did i mention rick edwards or is this just your sly way of bringing up a sexy man? ...i see you anon😏 he has the face of someone who should have been working on that big wall in games of thrones you know the one where jon tory scum snow ended up? that's a specific compliment but just trust me it's complimentary
i'm sorry about your heartbreak :( it's like me with whites, we've all got that one show :(
Tumblr media
yesss it so is! <3
is it weird to imagine joe and mike woz in the same room or is that just me...

havana rose liu + she/they + demiwoman  –  have you seen ruby chu around los angeles? the twenty-five year old is usually jamming to star by mitski. word around the city is that they’re passionate, yet, they can also be over-analytical, but you didn’t hear that from me. they’re currently an actress and are typically seen walking the streets of los angeles with her favorite fjallraven backpack. when i think of them, i think of lingering smell of coffee, random notes that make no sense in her notes app, the sound of fall leaves crunching against your boots. let’s hope the city treats them good!

BACKGROUND/CAREER.
ruby chu was born in the sunny city of hollywood.. wait.. or was it manhattan? ruby's family had two homes and were flying back and forth so often, ruby didn't even know which one to call her home, but now she calls la their home.
her parents were clearly quite busy if they had two homes. ruby's father was an actor, specifically on broadway and in various award-winning musicals all throughout ruby's childhood. their mother, on the other hand, got pretty bored herself of just sitting at home while dad made all the dough and decided to get into acting too-- soap opera acting, to be specific.
being raised by two parents who's jobs are to be overdramatic would make you think they've raised an overdramatic daughter--- and you're right. except ruby was overdramatic for very different reasons. she was sensitive and moody, mostly because she had missed her parents whenever they were away filming or performing late nights, and she was left with her auntie jenny.
throughout her young years, auntie jenny taught her so many important things that her materialistic parents would've never taught her, such as gratefulness, how to sew, how to cook, bake, etc.. her parents were the ones who taught her everything she needed to know about her future career in acting.
enrolling her in acting classes at such a young age must've paid off because her first big role was just as the age of nine, where she was cast as hermione granger in harry potter. little did her family know how much of that movie would pay her enough to never work again. of course, the rumor still flies around constantly that her parents bribed the director to cast her as hermione with a bit of a monetary gift.
but, she decided to keep going. after the final harry potter movie was released, she wanted to focus a bit more on her musical talents, and even starred in a few broadway productions such as hamilton (eliza). eventually, she was invited back into the acting space and decided to star in a few more hits, mostly movies. find her filmography here. her most recent projects were horror films "x" and "pearl", and some would even say she's become the new face of horror that gen z'ers absolutely adore.
PERSONALITY.
ruby's aunt definitely brought out the soft side of her. the sensitive, moody, melodramatic ruby that many people didn't have the pleasure of seeing. on the outside, she has done everything in her power to be perceived as well put together with nothing but selflessness and graciousness. but as soon as those doors are closed, she is usually an anxious mess. maybe the act hasn't convinced some people, but it's enough for people not not poke around too much.
ruby has always been confident in her sexuality. her family was supportive (well-- more so passive and supportive of whatever was going to make her look good), but her aunt was especially proud of her and wanted her to express herself in whatever way she wanted.
ruby is especially a good friend, would vouch for any of the people she cared about. she's a bit distant in relationships which is why they never last super long for her.
HEADCANONS.
although she's become the new face of gen-z horror, ruby actually was terrified of watching horror movies growing up. she only got into them right before auditioning for her first horror film.
has 3 cats named pekoe, anchovy and audie (all names from animal crossing).
grew up watching and reading many periodical/victorian pieces which led her to starring in so many periodical projects as well.
was homeschooled from kindergarten until senior year. decided not to go to college although she has a deep desire to.
more to come.. TBD

Good news for my same sex attracted sisters.
Lesbian dating app to use facial recognition to exclude trans women from matching with biological females
By SANCHEZ MANNING and SUE REID
PUBLISHED: 19:03 EDT, 1 June 2024
The first dating app for lesbians is set to launch – using sex-recognition technology to exclude trans women and ensure only biological females can sign up.
It is the brainchild of feminist campaigner Jenny Watson, who says there are currently no dating apps which cater purely for women who want same-sex relationships.
The current crop of dating apps, she says, are increasingly being used by males who identify as female and who say they too are lesbian.
L'App will use facial recognition technology to verify a person as a biological female.
Ms Watson said would-be users will have to go through a process when they sign up where the app scans their face via their smartphone.
Tumblr media
It is the brainchild of feminist campaigner Jenny Watson (pictured), who says there are currently no dating apps which cater purely for women who want same-sex relationships
The software, which Ms Watson claims is 99 per cent accurate, analyses features including bone structure, the shape and positioning of an individual's eyes, eyebrows and nose shape or size. It will also be able to detect if a person is presenting a live image rather than just putting a photo of a woman up to the camera by detecting movement, blinking motions and heat emissions.
Tests have revealed that if someone tries to disguise themselves as a woman by putting on a wig or make-up, the technology will spot the deception.
Ms Watson, 32, a town planner, told The Mail on Sunday: 'There is no female-only dating apps at the moment. Lesbians need an app which they can use without being messaged by trans-identifying males.'
She said L'App had also been developed in response to many lesbians finding that they were being banned from existing apps if they dared to specify that they wanted to date only natal females. Speaking about her own personal experience, she said: 'Any time I've joined a lesbian dating app or any other dating app myself, I get banned.
'To avoid trans-identified males, I will always write a little blurb, nothing disrespectful, saying my preference is for women and please respect my boundaries.
'And every time I do that I get banned. On one app I was asked to put down my most controversial opinion, so I wrote that J. K. Rowling was right and was banned for that. It's insane.'
Ms Watson has previously campaigned to protect lesbian spaces, by hosting female-only speed dating nights. She plans to open UK's first single-sex lesbian bar.
She has been criticised as transphobic for excluding transgender women – which she rejects. Her launch comes as a court case is being heard in Australia over whether a trans woman can be lawfully excluded from a female-only social networking app called Giggle.

For end of year asks: #1, #18, #23!
1) Song of the year?
So, I haven't had access to Spotify for a few years and I haven't been keeping up with current releases, so I went with the one I played the most often on YouTube. "You Are What You Love" by Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins. It fits my year I think.
youtube
18) A memorable meal this year?
That's a toss up between the wagyu skewer bento box I got from my favorite Japanese market (that also came with a salad and this amazing garlic sauce), the vegetarian lasagna I learned to make this year, or the Thanksgiving dinner our friends threw that was the first Thanksgiving feast I've actually liked (also the first time I've eaten food outside our house in almost three years).
23) If you could send a message to yourself back on the first day of the year, what would it be?
You made the right decision. Starting the new medication, the frustration of trying to organize and build furniture for the workroom, spending hours each day hand feeding your cat even though no one believed she was going to get better. It was all the right thing to do. Things still aren't perfect, but we got through the bad days of this year with only minor issues; the cat is running around and playing again and while she's still not back to full health, she's doing pretty good for a senior cat; and while the room isn't finished, it's usable and we can finally do things that make us happy again. Keep going.
Thanks for the ask!

Let’s Eat Grandma — Two Ribbons (Transgressive)
Tumblr media
youtube
It feels like the last few years weren’t supposed to go like this for Let’s Eat Grandma. 2018’s I’m All Ears was a triumph, an album made only more impressive by the fact that its auteurs were teenagers. Jenny Hollingworth and Rosa Walton were getting good reviews and audiences, not to mention living out the dream of many by being in a band with their best friend from early childhood. The factors that make the new Two Ribbons less a victory lap and more a hard-fought new peak in the duo’s oeuvre are a combination of the achingly quotidian and the nightmarishly rare. On the one hand, as their teen years were ending, the pair, friends since age four, found themselves on slightly different wavelengths for the first time (recalibrating from which, as anyone with long-lasting enough childhood friendships can attest, can be a painful and tricky process). And on the other Hollingworth’s boyfriend died at the age of 22. Amazingly enough, Two Ribbons is neither the sound of Hollingworth and Watson paralyzed by these varying levels of grief, anger, loneliness and guilt nor them pretending like everything was or is okay. It’s almost incidental that this is also their best album and one of the best synth pop records of the year.
This may be a record partly about mourning and dislocation, and one that doesn’t hesitate to acknowledge the more difficult parts of the situations that the duo went through (it’s simply never going to feel right to lose someone that young, even if your friendship heals and deepens you’ll never quite have that telepathic childhood closeness), but there’s far more than gloom here. The opening “Happy New Year” basks in the joy of repair, the chorus beaming “and nothing that was broken can touch how much I care for you,” while “Levitation” is the most effervescent song you’re likely to hear about disassociating on the bathroom floor. And while the increased level of compositional and sonic polish is to be expected from still-young artists getting increasingly used to their form (especially with fewer outside collaborators, this time the whole record produced by the band and David Wrench throughout) there’s still plenty of their vivid inventiveness, whether it’s the bit that gives “Insect Loop” it’s title or the way “Hall of Mirrors” evokes the way a crush can make your head swim.
For the first time Walton and Hollingworth wrote songs separately to begin with here, although they still crisscross vocally and worked on each other’s. If Walton, with “Happy New Year” and “Hall of Mirrors,” gets some of the biggest moments, Hollingworth takes lead on some of the more devastating ones. The closing title track is a gorgeously sad reckoning with changing friendships and lost partners, one that acknowledges the pain that can’t be dismissed and the people who are still there to love. But maybe the key track here is the wrenching, soaring “Watching You Go,” a song about both the determination to live in the face of loss and the immense, consuming anger that we sometimes have to wrestle with to do so, eventually cracking the sky with guitar in order to release it. Two Ribbons is the kind of great record that you kind of wish the artists never had to make.

E•MO•TION timeline for the drive home
song: White Winter Hymnal by Fleet Foxes- finally leaving thank goodness. Thinking about what I need to do when I get back. My hair is really fucking dead.
Song: Too Polite to Fight by Autoheart- this song is new and groovy. Can't believe I've been listening to them for about 8 years. They're on my 25 for 25 playlist, right?
Song: Help Me Believe by Nichole Nordeman - literally cry-singing, wishing I still believed the way I did and let it cradle me when I was 8 years old instead of being a fucked up adult.
Song: Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard- you're a mess. Everything changes and people change too. Why was this one on the playlist then? Is it more relevant now? No don't look into that. Right people wrong time. Like some people say Tom Felton and Emma Watson are. To me that's Jenny slate and Chris evans. But they're both married now.
Song: See You Again by Miley Cyrus - Also Christopher if I had known ppl my age were in the running for your hand in marriage... whatever. after 25, have all the age gaps you wish! Unless it's one of those "I'm 25 and he's known me for 10 years." Babe that's not your husband that's a petco employee. marriage is strange I'm probably going to tear up a bit at the wedding.
Song: Back Pocket by Vulfpeck - people are the worst drivers. I wish I could play bass. Thinking about various work things and spaghetti. That was a trip, let's document it as a tunglr post. Ooh a cat! Cat! Cat! Cat!
