Prayer for afternoon Sunday 🙏

Thank you so much Jesus that I got to church safely and I thank you that I could leave your house only in your holy glory and spread your name. Amen 🙏

Psalm 57:1

Have mercy on me, God, have mercy on me for in You my soul takes refuge. I will shelter in the shadow of Your wings until the danger is over . Amen 🙏

Psalm 91:1-7

Lord, You are my shelter and my fortress. My God, in whom I trust. You will save me from the deadly plague. You will cover me with Your feathers and under Your wings I will find shelter. Your faithfulness will be my shield and bulwark. I will not fear the terror of the night, nor by the arrow that flies by day nor from the plague that destroys at noon. So I’ve been struggling to find Jesus music that scratches that stimmy itch in my brain for the last year or so. I’ve also been holding God at arm’s length for a while. I’ve been wrestling with a lot of things in my faith. But I think I’ve come to a place of possibly embracing while I wrestle. Tonight I found a playlist with a lot of really good songs. I’ve cried and my brain has buzzed and I’ve sat in prickle skinned shock. I’m still vibrating a little. Feeling like I’m on the brink, almost there; closer than I have been in many months. It feels scary. And raw. But not in a bad way.

Explaining Jesus - Jordy Searcy (took me completely off guard. One of the best songs- spiritual or secular- that I’ve heard in a very long time)

How to be Yours - Chris Renzema (a song I was already using for characters but realized was meant to refer to God-Human condition and I cried)

The Hope Inside - Colony House (too close to home)

Ring the Bells - Johnnyswim (no, not christmas. very powerful wording but also just really buzzy and good)

Sweet Ever After - Ellie Holcomb - (also very good wonderful lyricism and music contrast and just makes me wanna scratch my arms and flap my hands)

Prayer for forgiveness for Friday 🙏

Matthew 6:9–15

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, as it is in heaven on earth. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen 🙏

1 John 1:7–10

But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar and his word is not in us.

In the Name of the Father and of the Holy Spirit, Transform my heart, renew my mind and lead me on the path of healing and reconciliation. This was a moving (2021) documentary from the folks that made the current movie Jesus Revolution that’s in theaters now.

I think this should go hand in hand with watching the JR movie because of the powerful way it tells the story of how music is often born in moves of God’s Spirit.

It looks at a number of cultural collisions that happen in the church and culture when a “new sound” is sung and how not everyone welcomes what God is doing or who God is using.

This doc has grace and mercy at its heart as well as what I think are some profound and prophetic messages for our moment in God’s unfolding plans and purposes.

If you think God won’t use imperfect people in His perfect plan then this documentary and the JR movie probably aren’t for you. But if you’ve ever fallen and realized just how difficult it is to fall out of His grace, you will find a deep and meaningful word of hope within them.

Also, if you lived through the evolving Christian music scene from the 70’s to now you are in for a really fun ride down memory lane.

Wow. ‘shine’ by the newsboys was hella problematic huh. The early 2000’s sure were A Time. (don’t judge me my phone glitched and started playing all the shitty music I bought in high school)
