I think the scene between Anne and Jonas (as well as Orland and Bridget) is really great. I'm not sure quite how to articulate my thoughts, but I love how their history as childhood friends* shapes their current relationship, for ill and for good.
Anne knows Jonas well: she knows he loves sugar crafting, but that his lack of self-esteem is what led to everything he's done. She cares for him (as is part of her character, but makes even more sense with the context that she grew up with him), and believes in his skills, which is why she offers him options to go back to sugar crafting:
Jonas, when faced with genuine kindness from someone he's done so much harm to, when he has to confront his own guilt and lack of confidence and envy and the shame he must have felt after being expulsed from his own family's workshop, and combined with the fact he's drunk, immediately lashes out.
And Anne, being his (former) childhood friend*, doesn't take any of his bullshit nor is above calling him out.
I also love the silliness between these two despite everything that happened between them.
*so I reread volume 1 and I don't know why I thought Anne and Jonas were childhood friends when in reality, she only stayed in Jonas's hometown 6 months when Emma was ill, and then left when her mother died.
This blonde himbo Jonas Anders guy is a nightmare, “Marry me omg” “I love u” “fuk urself I’ll steal ur sugar sculptures” “I’ll be a Lord one day marry me” “I hate u bitc” “I love u”. God. I’m exhausted. This types of guys are something else. Calm down.
And the online translated light novel has covered only two chapters of volume 3 ( https://aquascans.wordpress.com/novels/sugar-apple-fairy-tale-novel/ )
There are seventeen volumes
The episodes published by Muse Asia on YouTube has already covered the chapters translated so far just recently with episode 10's release
Tl;dr no further content can be found
Besides a few scraps of spoilers
Anne and Challe sleeping (not that way) in volume 8, their kiss in volume 11, Challe holds Anne close as a feminine fairy (potentially Lucy, fairy that Hugh [Mercury] owns), Challe loses his memory and they get married at the end
I can't binge the series eeeeeeeek
I don't mind waiting-- but this is an exception!
Why oh why is my trash anime niche
Random note: we highlight last names by putting em in [brackets]
Hope there's a nice blond character to balance out Jonas and Bridget, really really really hope there is
Besides Liz/Elizabeth since she's already dead and no Anne (when she grows older, very much implied) does not count in my mind she will always be a redhead with freckles
If I had a nickel for every blond bitch who brought harm to their childhood friend*, fell from grace, felt guilty about their actions and grappled with low self-esteem, only to later on get forgiven by said childhood friend and started on their redemption arc...
I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't much, but it's weird that it happened twice (in one episode too!)
Or: in which I can see the parallels between Bridget and Jonas and I find those parallels very interesting.
(*Idk why I remembered Anne and Jonas as being childhood friends, when she only stayed in his hometown 6 months when Emma was sick, lol)
They're trying to get as much necessary information and establishing supporting characters out of the way first so we won't need to worry about it later during the important scenes, I guess.
But the pacing still feels quite rushed and awkward even tho I did absorb everything on the first watch 😅
At least, my impression on Jonas has improved a bit and he's not the yandere I thought he would be (the trailer kinda suggested he was) but you never know.
Anyways, next ep, we meet another Sugar Master?
Hugh Mercury...lol, it's going to feel so weird hearing Tomoaki Maeno using his masculine voice while Mari-chan is still active in DeliPaPre 😅
