Hello, have some completely unsolicited MD soul lore that I happened to have lying around.  Because I wanna dump info but don’t have the energy to write something new.

The Merfolk (Gourmand, Slugsworth, Marinus, Maiden, Mastodon, Judas and Slayer) have no souls. They are insanely long lived and extremely durable with the drawback that they have no afterlife, or at least, no afterlife that is accessible to anyone else.

The Objecthead’s (Static, Tabs, Ari and Huey) souls will rapidly dissipate in the absence of a host to anchor them to reality. Attempting to absorb a loose soul of this type is an extremely bad idea. Any attempting to take their soul will merely become the new host and their body will not be their own anymore. 

The Microraptors (Bittersworth, Napoleon and Sebastian) are artificial life and do not have souls but their consciousness can be stored away allowing them to be reborn. 

The Half-Merfolk (Joei and Roja) do have souls, but they are so loosely defined they cannot be taken or owned. Likewise they have a loosely defined afterlife, unable to pass into the underworld proper, their spirits linger airily, only manifesting in a set range near where they died.

aziraphale and crowley share a lot of parallels to jesus and judas, if you think about it real hard.

i mean.

i've talked about this before but crowley shares so many parallels to jesus; serpent of eden, lamb of god. perpetuator of original sin, died for humanity's sins. both having intricate scapegoat symbolism tied to their characters, crowley's affinity for goats (seen during the ark and the job minisode). alpha and omega—crowley with the first woman and being the reason why judgement was cast on humanity, jesus with the last man and being the reason why judgement is lifted. condemned for something they cannot control; crowley's curious nature that got him expelled from the kingdom of heaven and jesus' divine bloodline that marked him for inescapable painful death the moment he was conceived. god forsaking them during the most crucial points of their lives.

and, likewise, aziraphale also shares many parallels to judas. in my honest opinion. judas's betrayal of jesus fully believing his and his beloved's pain will be worth it, that it will save everyone, that rome will leave his people alone if he sacrifice the messiah—aziraphale's betrayal of crowley fully believing his and the demon's pain will be worth it in the end because his sacrifice will change heaven once and for all. both being wrong, and both never having the chance to explain nor articulate how grandiose their love is until it was too late. how judas acted as a foil to jesus and often drove him insane, and how a crucial part of aziraphale's ineffable dance with crowley is his refusal and denial.

jesus had asked judas to kill him, and then demanded more of him by asking him to live, to live despite committing the worst sin, to live despite betraying himself and the truth of his love.

I see a lot of people talking about avoiding obvious dog whistles, but very few explaining how to identify them. So, that’s what I hope to do today.

WHAT IS A DOGWHISTLE?

As defined by Oxford Languages, a Dog Whistle is a subtly aimed political message which is intended for, and can only be fully understood by, a particular group. Politicians will try to manipulate their audience by using alienating phrases, and in the process, dehumanizing those they’re speaking about while also having a margin of plausible deniability. For example, let’s take the term “illegal alien”. When we think of aliens, we think of little green dudes who suck us up in flying saucers to probe our anal glands. We think of xenomorphs and The Thing, creatures that are out to get us normal folks. However, “illegal alien” is meant to refer to immigrants who migrated here through unofficial channels. These are people. Saying “these human beings need to be deported” won’t drum up as much of a response as “these illegal aliens need to be deported”.

WHAT ARE COMMON DOG WHISTLES?

Blood Libel-

An ancient superstition that Jewish people will kill non-Jews, typically babies or young people, for the purpose of drinking their blood. This myth has inspired many vampire stories, most infamously Dracula and Nosferatu, and fuels a lot of modern day conspiracies. Ever hear “these celebrities are bathing in the blood of babies to stay young”? Well, this is where that comes from. It should be noted that Romani people are often the targets of similar rumors. This is obviously untrue.

Similar dogwhistles include but aren’t limited to the New World Order, The Elites, Globalism, Illuminati, and the Reptilians.

The term itself stems from the word Kabbalah, which was a Jewish mystical interpretation of the Hebrew Bible. It is meant to describe a secret group of people, mainly Jews, that control the world’s governments, economies, and media. Not only is this blatantly stupid, as most of the people in power are wildly antisemitic themselves (just look at Elon Musk), but it’s also just ignoring the obvious and observable fact that corporations and money drive politics and not a secret shadowy government. We don’t need a shadow when we’re already shady.

Have you ever seen a person partially censor the name of a celebrity or a fandom they’re discussing to avoid fans coming onto the post and giving them shit for it? (For example, I’ve seen a couple people post things under tags like #lum*ty when they don’t like the ship) This is the same idea, except it’s almost exclusively used by neo-Nazis to talk about Jewish people. It saw a resurgence in popularity with the introduction of a chrome extension called the Coincidence Detector, which put these parentheses around the names of any of the over 8,000 Jewish people in their database. In the Bible, Judas, one of Jesus’ twelve disciples, was bribed by the Romans to turn in Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Many people use that as evidence to say jews killed Jesus. However, anyone who has read the Bible can tell you, Jesus was also Jewish. And so were the rest of his disciples. And his mother. If anything, Jews birthed Jesus and made him into the man he was. Y’all should be thankful.

Not The Real Jews-

This typically refers to the black Israelite theory, where the tribes of Israel relocated to Africa once the Kingdom of Israel was destroyed. They claim Ashkenazi Jews are imposters, and that black people are the real Jews. There are certainly black Jewish people out there, and they’re lovely af and deserve all the support in the world. However, the people espousing the black Israelite theory cannot be further from the truth. Judaism originated in what is now considered the Middle East with the prophet Abraham who settled in Canaan which is what we know now as Israel/Palestine. Around 722 BC, the Assyrians conquered the northern part of the territory and forced the 10 tribes of Israel to move further up north, and the Babylonians did the same to the Tribes of Judah a little later on. Not to mention when they were eventually overtaken by Alexander the Great. For the majority of history, Judaism was focused in the northern part of the Middle East and the southern part of Europe. To reflect that, Ashkenazi Jews share the most genetic similarity to the Greeks and Turkish folks. There is no evidence to suggest that Ashkenazi Jews are in any way fake. Again this does not mean there are no black Jews, there certainly are, but you don’t have to deny the validity of the ashkenazi to prove that. They are all Jewish. Not to mention, those who espouse the black Israelite theory rarely practice Judaism themselves.

Which I find funny, as he admitted to wanting to fuck young boys on the Amazing Atheist’s podcast and that it was a totally normal thing. Even Ben Shapiro hated that guy from the beginning.

It’s important to acknowledge that absolutely anyone can fall for these dog whistles without even being aware of it. Recently, my brother started falling down this horrid rabbit hole thanks to Kanye’s rhetoric and despite everything I’ve tried to warn him about, he’s not listening. By posting this, I hope to stop at least one person from following that path. Now more than ever, we need to stand with the Jewish community and show our support. Stay safe out there.

   It’s the end times.

It’s difficult to think of only the next and not the end, or the finale, or the moment when Martyn realizes that there’s no going back.

   Gear and courage is scarce when the remnants of the Red Army gather in the swamp. Food is passed around– and when they realize there’s not enough, then it’s split, and passed around again. Martyn watches Ren tear bread with his hands, passing pieces to Etho, BigB, before those red eyes fall upon him. Blood is still steadily dripping down the passage beneath the eye that tears would travel, along the dark ring before slipping off his cheek. 

Martyn takes his piece after a second. His own hesitation surprises him. Half-dried blood from Ren’s fingers rubs off on his own, stains his hand as he takes his torn bread, struggling to find the strength to bite into it. 

   He lost his appetite ages ago, beneath a full moon. Maybe before then, on a mountain top, beside a chest with three slips of paper within it. Maybe, even, in a room with a magic table, several people, and a fumbling business owner.

   He swallows.

Everytime he tries to think about the next, just about what will happen soon and not eventually, his mind keeps wandering. He can’t stop thinking about that altar.

   Ren told him back then that he had a chance to strike him down, take him out of the game for good, because he was naked and unarmed and vulnerable. Martyn looks to the other side of the fort as the scattered soldiers try to strengthen themselves, to where Ren kneels, wrapping the handle of the Skizzblade in thin strips of leather. His ears are pinned to his head, almost obscured entirely by his crown of golden thorns. Martyn looks and sees that same vulnerable man. 

   The grip he has on his own weapon tightens subconsciously.

   Next, Martyn tells himself as he moves outside, they will collect themselves. Afterwards, Martyn tells himself, they will march away from the swamp, move up the hill, and descend upon the besieged Dogwarts through the gates. Then… Martyn tries to think.

It’s hard to think when there’s a hand on his shoulder. A figure that smells of iron and wood stands at his side, rumbling idly with a growl that hasn’t faded in hours. Ren is there when Martyn spares a glance, that pale grey and red face turned away from him, instead staring forward solemnly towards the hill. Towards his kingdom.

   “Hand,” the Lord purrs.

   “M’lord,” the Hand responds.

The hand on his shoulder presses, massaging the muscle as Ren watches the horizon intensely. Martyn watches him. He wouldn’t call it intense, the way his expression stones and he stares at every minute shift of Ren’s face, but there isn’t anything better.

   “It’s our final day, I’m sure you can feel it,” says Ren, finally turning to him. Martyn’s jaw clenches, suddenly squirmish beneath his attention. “But we shall never go down without a fight. There is no better way to die than fighting for our home. Fighting for what we love, who we love.”

The hand squeezes. The Hand feels nauseous.

   Ren carries on, looking back to the hill as the sounds of Etho and BigB begin to gather behind them on the wool bridge. “This will be our final stand, laddies. Our final chance to show those filthy stinkin’ desert hippies what we’re freaking made of! And we are going to take back Dogwarts or die trying!”

   It’s hard to match Ren’s energy.

BigB grins and murmurs a casual response, as if he already knew that he was gonna live beyond the battle, though newly Red. Etho spins a little, patting all his pockets to make sure he had the most he could carry, before nervously agreeing.

   Ren’s eyes are on him. His lord has got a small, confident smile. Martyn wishes it’d waver.

He huffs out a laugh, patting Ren on the back and slipping away from the grip on the shoulder. He does his damnedest to smile back.

   “Aye,” Martyn says, without the heart of putting on his voice, “right, let’s get on with it.”

Get on with which part?

   Something within Martyn asks him. Asks himself? … Something within Martyn asks.

   Ren takes the lead. Of course Ren takes the lead. Martyn is not far behind, and neither are Etho or BigB. They expect their king to hold back, capture the field and patch of forest in front of the gates, but he charges through it, slicing through their sugarcane crop with the Skizzblade, and like wildfire, his Red Army follows after. Smoke will choke one of them later.

Do you wish to get on with the battle? You know you are going to die.

   Martyn fortifies the ground in front of the gates. They push through as projectiles rain from above and from within.

You tighten your hand around the grip of your sword. Who do you truly wish for it to fall upon?

   At first, it was Impulse, then Tango who fell to his sword. The leaves of their smoldering crops crush beneath his boots.

Look at him.

   Martyn looks. He scans the field to try to find Ren, and as he pulls himself up a hill, he sees him turn the corner of Renchanting. Scar is in hot pursuit.

What is it that you feel?

   He doesn’t know.

Rage that he’s being taken from you, just around that corner, out of sight? Envy, that it wasn’t you that killed him?

You wanted to kill him.

You wasted your chance on that altar. You should have killed him.

You waited too long. You waited for a fair duel.

Life isn’t fair, Hand.

   He couldn’t’ve. Martyn thinks long and hard in that fraction of time between when Scar goes behind the building and when he reappears, sans Ren and plus a whole lot more blood. He thinks about what Ren told him about life, and doing what hurts.

He was going to die, by you or by anyone else. He wouldn’t have laid a paw on you and you know it, you sick creature.

   He’s crying. He doesn’t know why. Martyn would have cried either way.

Scar is coming towards him, pulling an arrow from the quiver on his hip. Martyn is charging.

Rage?

Envy?

Don’t say it’s love. 

Don’t lie to him.

He is seen as the man responsible for Jesus’s death; afterwards, Judas fell into despair and hung himself from an olive tree; since then, he has been suffering for his deeds deep in Hell, and will continue to do so for all eternity. Is that really fair? Was Judas the duplicitous master of his own fate, a much-suffering pawn used for Jesus’s ends, or just a man who made a mistake?

Medea: The plot centers on the actions of Medea, a former princess of the kingdom of Colchis, and the wife of Jason; she finds her position in the Greek world threatened as Jason leaves her for a Greek princess of Corinth. Medea takes vengeance on Jason by murdering his new wife as well as her own two sons, after which she escapes to Athens to start a new life.

The Last Days of Judas Iscariot:

A courtroom drama about everyone’s favorite biblical traitor, this play confronts the problem of evil head on in a comedic, heartfelt, and tragic way. it’s a favorite with the web weavers of tumblr. this play has the famous “why didn’t you make me good enough that you could have loved me” and it absolutely lives up to that line. if you’ve never read it before i highly recommend it, and if you’re not up for reading right now, there is a honolulu production on youtube that is absolutely fantastic.

Imagine you are an Athenian man at the Dionysia circa. 431 BC. You are drunk. Your little Athenian wife is at home weaving or giving birth or talking to the slaves about vegetables or something. On stage, you watch a man dressed as a woman give one of the greatest monologues of all time about how hard it is to be a woman. Maybe you are moved, maybe not. Then you watch her KILL HER CHILDREN with a sword and FLY off into the sky in a chariot pulled by DRAGONS. Wyd?
